I love this place, we celebrated with my friend New Year and it was awesome. The atmosphere was nice, even when it was busy time the waitress payed enough time to us, suggesting nice wine. The manager Ernesto Rufin helped us the next day when we came and asked about lost AirPod.I definitely recommend this place with nice warm atmosphere!

I have been to SouthGate in the Essex House a handful of times for drinks and light bites after work or during the weekend. Located in the Essex House, this is a great spot on Central Park South for entertaining guests or going out for a date night drink if youre looking for a high-end location to do so.

I cant comment on the food because I didnt eat there but I did stop in for an Old Fashioned (the specialty cocktail on their menu) a few times during my stay at the hotel and it was just 💣 .. perfect smokey flavor. Maple syrup.. so delicious

Exceeded my expectations!! Everything we tried was delicious.Pictured: shrimp tacos, spinach gnocchi, beet salad, filet mignon sliders (so tender), branzino, cobb saladHotel breakfast buffet offered a welcomed range of fruit, though could have more hot food options for the $41/person price point.The highlight must be the service. Waters and juices were constantly being refilled. Each and every staff was patient, gracious, down-to-earth, and a delight to converse with. Really elevated my stay at the hotel.

This is actually one of my favorite bars in New York! In general, bars in New York so not have great wine lists, especially by the glass. Southgate is an exception to that, having a nice international selection of wines by the glass. Of course, they have everything else for the non wine drinkers as well. The ambiance is cool and they even have a large projection screen to show sporting events. Great place to have a drink!!!!!

Nice atmosphere with lots of different seating arrangements. Waitstaff was friendly for the most part. Mukhtar was quite argumentative when I said I didnt recognize the cocktail he brought me to be what I asked for. Instead of asking if I would like something else, he wanted to get upset with me and tell me I was wrong even though I showed him multiple images of what I expected. The was a gal that took over our table after who was very sweet.

Repeated visits alone or with friends for drinks or snacks. Very cool atmosphere. I find the place relaxing and exciting at the same time.Large windows facing Central Park. There are a lot of contrasts. A huge fireplace in a very modern room. Glass wall holds the wines. It is inside the fancy established Essex House Hotel, so also a big visual contrast as you step in from the warm hotel lobby to this bright room.

It is not always easy to find a restaurant that is open super early on weekends, that is more than a café. One good option is to look for a restaurant nestled inside a hotel, since most of them are open from early hours for their guests. And, most of the restaurants are open for public as well, you don’t have to be staying at the hotel to be able to dine there. I found a restaurant inside JW Marriott Essex House New York, right across from the Central Park.The inside was really big, with high ceiling and lots of natural light coming in from their large windows that goes from floor to ceiling.Just like many hotel restaurants, they offer breakfast buffet. Our server told us that we can go take a look if we want, or we can order from their set menu. We went to take a peak at the buffet, but we decided to order from their breakfast menu instead.For food, we ordered Croque Madame, Brioche French Toast, and The Farmer’s Omelet. We enjoyed the breakfast, it was super filling, the portion was really big which was surprising. We were all very stuffed and satisfied. Our server was great, he took a good care of us. The grilled octopus was great. The grilled cheese wasnt amazing (it seemed like the bread was toasted instead of grilled and the cheese wasnt completely melted) but the shoe string fries were on point. The ambiance is really nice and the service was great. The soda was in a can instead of fountain and it was $9 for a can soda so that was a little ridiculous. But, overall, it was a nice experience.

Really enjoyed this convenient place in the Essex House. It’s an excellent place to relax with a drink and have some of their fresh bar snacks, especially their bottomless mixed nut blend or filet sliders. While the menu is limited, the atmosphere opens up an entire space to refresh after a long day of touring.Favorite servers had to be Melvin and Yasser, both ready to take care of anything you need while still keeping up a chill lounge environment.
