Best place for oysters! Love their happy hour deal 4-7 daily 6 oysters and a glass of beer for 6$ or 16 for a glass of wine. Excellent variety. We ended up staying for dinner too and got their daily special (branzino with zucchini noodles) and their fettuccine clam and the fried shrimps as appetizers. Both were 10/10 recommend. Couple next to us got the surf and turf which looked delicious! For the price and the quality of seafood definitely will be coming back soon.

This was my second visit (the first being a date night in a weekday). I was insistent that we return since I was feenin for the crudo ever since I had it the first time. Had a reservation for 7:30p on a Sunday evening. The place was pretty busy, so the 3 of us stayed at the bar instead of waiting for our table to open.Really amazing experience all around. We started with oyster shooters, clams, and cocktails. When the rest of our party arrived, we all shared a flight of the available oysters, escargot, squid ink uni pasta, and the daily scallops. Everything was fresh, balanced, and delicious. Nothing was too salty, slimy, or over seasoned. The bartender and servers were friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. This is definitely now on my list of NYC places to frequent!

A hidden gem of the East Village! We had the fish of the day and scallops of the day, both incredibly fresh and delicious! Large choice of oysters 😍 Service was excellent and beers were also real good! Will be coming back for sure ❤️

From the outside this restaurant looks simple and welcoming, but I was so so happy with my decision to stop in on a warm spring day. We got seated near the windows which allowed for the perfect breeze. I started with the happy hour special, one NY state local beer and a half dozen oysters for $12. I got the wheat beer with raspberry undertones and it was phenomenal with the brine of the oysters. For my main I decided to have a little fun and get the squid ink and sea urchin. I was afraid that it would be too fishy with the roe but I couldn’t stop eating this dish.My boyfriend got the tuna tartare to start and the surf and turf. He said the tuna was one of the best things he’s ever ordered. However the steak was a little chewy. Nonetheless, we can’t wait to come back after work.

This oyster bar offers four main categories on the menu: appetizers, main courses, oysters, and beverages. They provide a small order slip where you can write down the quantity of oysters youd like. The main courses are generously portioned, priced between $20 and $30. Oysters are divided into two main types: West Coast and East Coast, ranging from $2.85 to $4 each. West Coast oysters are rich and sweet, while East Coast oysters are refreshing and salty. We ordered 10 East Coast oysters and 2 West Coast oysters. Personally, we preferred the West Coast oysters as the East Coast ones were a bit too salty for our taste. The interior is dimly lit, romantic, and cozy, with four bar seats where you can watch the kitchen in action. Overall, this oyster bar offers excellent value for money and comes highly recommended!

One of my all time favorite spots on the east village. Come between 5-7 any day for the oyster+ beer happy hour. Relaxed atmosphere, great service and phenomenal food. Can’t beat the value: 24 oysters, 4 beers, uni squid pasta and 4 scallops for $105!? Must try!!

  • Review 8 (2024-10-09 - Rating: 5)

This was our first meal on our trip to the city. We wanted to eat somewhere with oysters and good clam sauce. This place was mentioned in an article as having good clam sauce so we gave it a try. We werent disappointed. The clam sauce was fantastic. The restaurant is an unpretentious neighborhood spot with great service, excellent food and a comfortable atmosphere. The selection of beers and wine pair well with the food. There were just enough choices for every taste without being overwhelming. The happy hour prices were a pleasant surprise. We couldnt have been happier. This was perfect start to our trip.

  • Review 9 (2024-10-02 - Rating: 5)

Nathan(we understand there are 2 - we are talking about Nathan Ward, no shade to other Nathan) is a wonderful, personable server and he made our night. Izya is also absolutely lovely. We enjoyed the wine and were so happy to see Vinho Verde on the menu. The food was delicious and more than reasonably priced. Atmosphere was cute af. Also the dessert poundcake is a stoner’s dream. We’ll definitely be back.

  • Review 10 (2024-09-10 - Rating: 5)

The happy hour is the best a beer and 6 oysters for $15 the food is very good too

  • Review 11 (2024-12-19 - Rating: 5)

This isn’t the first time dining here, they have good happy hour combo of oysters with beer from 5-7pm (M-Sun). If oyster isn’t your kind of taste, they have great beer options reasonably priced. Their entrees are also delicious and good portion. There’s always a wait, so be sure to reserve in advance!

  • Review 12 (2023-09-10 - Rating: 5)

The best oyster bar in NYC! Visit here for Happy Hour, the oyster come with a beer ( a lot of local beer selection) if you prefer having wine, it is only $15.The entire also good, the pasta is the best! The only one we are not recommending is the cured salmon, it is super salty!

  • Review 13 (2024-12-26 - Rating: 5)

Amazing service and amazing food. happy hour is a great deal and the uni & salmon roe pasta was delicious. 13/10 highly recommend !

  • Review 14 (2020-12-16 - Rating: 5)

We were in the neighborhood and decided to visit Upstate Craft Beer & Oyster Bar by reading its great reviews on Yelp. The decor is vintage style with cozy and relaxing ambiance. Our dinner started with $12 Happy Hour, 6 oysters with one beer (Mother’s Milk Stout). The quality of oysters was decent and fresh. We had Escargot ($13) from shared plate and Squid Ink Pasta with Uni and Salmon Roe ($23) from main plate.Their food was amazingly delicious especially the Squid Ink Pasta. The sauce was flavorful & creamy and the texture was various from chewy noodles to soft sea urchin. It’s definitely one of the best pastas we have ever had in NYC.After meal, the staff served their complimentary dessert, whiskey infused pound cake. My husband loved it so much due to the strong alcohol taste and the balance of sweetness from the cake & bitterness from the whiskey.

  • Review 15 (2023-02-07 - Rating: 5)

Always outstanding! We frequent this little gem and it never disappoints. Oysters are the best, definitely try their happy hour, 6 oysters and a draft beer for $12. The food is all cooked to perfection, try the tuna, it’s to die for, charred to perfection every time! And their tartare is amazing.

  • Review 16 (2023-12-09 - Rating: 5)

This NYC restaurant has become my absolute favorite over the past three year!! The food is exceptional, offered at reasonable prices, and the staff is very friendly without any sense of rushing you through dinner. Recommend the oysters, crudo with caviar and tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes!

  • Review 17 (2019-12-31 - Rating: 4)

Oysters were amazing, very fresh. Favorite is from PEI. Squid ink pasta was awesome, but fettuccine with clams had too much garlic, which Is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5. Atmosphere was great and waiters were very friendly. Recommend.

  • Review 18 (2023-10-23 - Rating: 5)

Amazing restaurant to have a romantic dinner! I went there with my boyfriend for our anniversary and we both loved it! The food was so fresh and tasty! The waiter’s drink recommendations were spot on and we are definitely coming back!

  • Review 19 (2022-03-08 - Rating: 5)

I went here 3 times, I keep coming back because of the cheap oysters that they have and also because of how good they are. Make sure you get their scallops, uni dish with bread, rice, squid ink pasta! I would 110% come back.Im not sure if they still do the uni dish anymore but if they do, GET IT!

  • Review 20 (2023-02-13 - Rating: 5)

We enjoyed the happy hour (5-7pm) oyster menu! One of my favorite pasta was the squid ink pasta! I highly recommend this restaurant!

  • Review 21 (2021-05-12 - Rating: 5)

I loved coming here when it first opened then I was gone for some time and then pandemic hit and today I finally got back for a quick happy hour oyster before meeting up with my friend for dinner (he unfortunately doesnt eat seafood because if he did i would have esten dinner here)The happy hour deal is clutch 1/2 dozen and a beer for $12. My waitress was very friendly and she was VERY busy, the whole outdoor was full. You just cant beat the freshness as of these oysters. Will have to return stat for more eats.

  • Review 22 (2022-07-26 - Rating: 5)

Although the portions are small for the price, the food is extraordinarily good. The service is great, and I regret not getting the oysters. The ravioli was cold on the outside (bleaugh), but the crab was very fresh inside. The other dish was very exceptional. Will definitely be back for the happy hour!

  • Review 23 (2021-12-21 - Rating: 5)

Bottom line: stopped quickly for a drink. Service quick and efficient, beer and oysters hit the spot.Gluten line: oysters and wine are thankfully gluten free. They otherwise seem aware.Bottom line: this was just a quick stop but they had happy hour that included half a dozen oysters and a beer. We enjoyed everything and will definitely be returning again soon!

  • Review 24 (2022-08-08 - Rating: 5)

The food is good, and the service is very fast. They have an extensive selection of oysters. The happy hour deal is half a dozen oysters + beer for $12. I wish they had a more extensive beer selection. Everything else is excellent.

  • Review 25 (2018-01-16 - Rating: 4)

Went during happy hour and was not disappointed. What was great was that the happy hour included 6 oysters and either a cup of wine or a pretty solid beer (I went with the Six Point they had on tap). Cozy, and dim-lit, its perfect for a date, especially with Oysters supposedly being aphrodisiacs and all. Just be sure to get there as soon as it opens, it gets packed!!

  • Review 26 (2018-07-29 - Rating: 5)

My friend and I went there a bit over 5pm on a Sunday and didn’t wait at all. Got two rounds of happy hour (each $12). For the first round we ordered a “sea salt” flavored beer and two of each oyster eligible for happy hour, which made a total of 6. Both were excellent, and we especially liked the oyster Grow Pasture from Cape Cod, MA so we had another 6 for the second round. We also had Grilled Tuna for the main, which was tender and well-seasoned. They gave us three small pieces of whiskey pound cake as a thank-you dessert, and it was also good. The service here was best characterized as hard-core: not a lot of courtesy or chit-chatting (which I absolutely DETEST) but to the point. Overall we were very satisfied!

  • Review 27 (2023-10-21 - Rating: 5)

Wonderful place! Excellent (yet affordable oysters), really good uni pasta and salmon tartare. The overall vibe is also great.

  • Review 28 (2024-11-04 - Rating: 5)

Really good happy hour special 12 bucks oyster of the day and a selection of draft beer. Bartenders were super personable and kind. Oysters were fresh fast and I appreciate that they serve it with real grated horseradish and cocktail and mignonette. Def will be back. Lots of oysters here from both coasts.

  • Review 29 (2023-08-15 - Rating: 5)

Missed happy hour, but had a nice/affordable meal out on the street seating as rain poured down and didnt get wet.

  • Review 30 (2022-03-03 - Rating: 5)

Totally excellent neighborhood gem. Extremely high quality seafood and awesome oysters. Nice happy hour as well. The service is also very good and theyre nice people. Youll definitely enjoy this place!

  • Review 31 (2018-04-23 - Rating: 5)

This place always has top quality shellfish, the owner is super knowledgeable regarding the sourcing of everything that goes through there. Beer selection is also top notch. Always an excellent meal, and the rum cake dessert is nice too.

  • Review 34 (2018-08-06 - Rating: 5)

Benn here several times since I discovered it with 4.5 stars on Yelp a couple of years ago. Its a very small spot with only around 35 capacity. They dont take reservations and they fill up quickly after opening at 5:00. Their $12 half dozen oyster and beer special is great! So is their signature fettuccine and clams dish! They do have a waitlist online you can sign up for when you get to within a mile of the restaurant.Good eats on the Lower East Side. Walling distance to Nuyorican Cafe and NY Theatre Workshop.

  • Review 35 (2021-08-22 - Rating: 5)

One of the best scallops Ive had in the city! The happy hour is also a great deal! Arrived about 15 minutes after they opened and got seated immediately.

  • Review 36 (2024-10-04 - Rating: 5)

Oyster + beer happy hour was such a good deal. The oysters were fresh and tasty!

  • Review 37 (2023-12-24 - Rating: 5)

Truly the best oyster experience in my life to date! The owner curates a wide array of oysters from the east and west coast. They were fresh and delicious. My gf and I had about 40 or so lol. We also enjoyed the marlin with caviar which a rich and robust flavor and the uni. 10 outta 10 highly recommend! A big thank you to the hard working staff and owner! Cheers! Hope to see you soon

  • Review 38 (2023-04-24 - Rating: 5)

Have always loved upstate, been coming for years. Oyster HH is fantastic but dont miss out on the mains, esp the various homemade pastas and the the special dessert!

  • Review 39 (2023-08-17 - Rating: 5)

Upstate Craft Beer and Oyster Bar is an absolute delight! The seafood, especially the oysters, is fresh and flavorful, clearly showcasing the care they put into sourcing their ingredients. But its not just about the food. The vibe here is electric and contagious, making it impossible not to have a good time. Pair that with their excellent range of craft beers, and youre in for an unforgettable evening. All around, a top-notch spot for food lovers and fun seekers alike. Cant wait for my next visit!

  • Review 40 (2021-08-11 - Rating: 5)

Casual place with amazing seafood and super friendly servers, must get the squid ink pasta with uni!! We got that and the grilled tuna with wasabi mash.

  • Review 41 (2024-01-29 - Rating: 5)

Finally visited here, and the vibe was great. It was neither too loud nor too crowded. We accidentally sat on the bar side, but the owner and servers were super nice. We tried some sample beers, and the server gave us a free whiskey cake, which was the perfect finish to our meal. I don’t remember the name of the beer with coffee flavor, but I want to try it on my next visit!

  • Review 42 (2018-06-12 - Rating: 5)

The oyster happy hour is awesome. If you have two people I’d recommend getting there around 445, if you have more people I’d get there much earlier to guarantee you get a table/bar spot.

  • Review 43 (2024-12-02 - Rating: 5)

Nathan was attentive, upbeat and helpful despite being the only wait staff during a hopping holiday evening. The oysters and fish special were delicious and flavorful. Low key, down to earth atmosphere. Will definitely come back.

  • Review 44 (2023-08-22 - Rating: 5)

Came here for the oyster happy hour and left super satisfied. The deal was a draft beer and six oysters for $12. There were three different types of oysters and the waitress recommended trying two of each. They were all pretty delicious but the small ones from south hampton were the tastiest. I ended up getting a second happy hour deal! The waitress was friendly and helpful and the place had a nice ambience. Also really enjoyed the whiskey cake before leaving. Hope to be back soon!

  • Review 45 (2024-12-02 - Rating: 5)

We walked into this charming restaurant and were delighted by the wait staff. Food and beverages are terrific. Wonderful oysters. All at a very affordable price point.

Just had dinner here at the bar on a Monday . All I can say is it’s an ACE, fat oysters , amazing tapas and dishes . If u like seafood and prefer not to break ur bank account . U come here and enjoy ur self . Looking forward to my cigarette!! Thank u .

  • Review 49 (2021-08-04 - Rating: 5)

Staff was great, absolute pleasures to work with. Went there in a lovely date... With that said .. the oyster selection is intense. Go there with an idea of what you want or be prepared to get two of everything (worth it, in my opinion). The crab cakes were good, but the grilled octopus was great. 10/10 would recommend.

  • Review 50 (2017-08-27 - Rating: 4)

Most of the menu was a bit on the fiddly side for my taste, but the oysters (an extensive local and East + West coast list), salmon and wine were excellent, as was the service while eating at the bar.

  • Review 51 (2023-12-29 - Rating: 4)

Lovely seafood restaurant. Food are delicious.

  • Review 52 (2019-08-28 - Rating: 5)

Great seafood restaurant and the price is more than reasonable! The quality of food is pretty good too! We ordered octopus and oysters! They were fresh and delicious! The restaurant itself is very small and most of the time the waiting is pretty long since there is limited seating! The staff is however very friendly and helpful! I will definitely recommend to make a reservation before coming here!

  • Review 53 (2019-06-22 - Rating: 5)

Love the seafood! Oyster was amazingly fresh! Scallops cooked to perfection! Warm friendly ambience! Even with people waiting for tables outside the restaurant, we were never rushed by our server. Like to give a shout out to our server, he makes the whole dining experience truly enjoyable! Will be back!

  • Review 54 (2023-07-29 - Rating: 5)

I was on a trip in NYC and this was the best experience I had! We came in late on a Friday night, and the bartender/server was very attentive that he made recommendations on wine, oysters, etc. This was by far the best service I’ve ever received and I would definitely come back when I visit the city again! Of course, the food was great - oysters were fresh and house made sauce was top-notch!

  • Review 55 (2019-11-21 - Rating: 4)

Ive never liked oysters but had several that I thought were decent here! They also had a few delicious beers on tap, and we got some fish with capers that was delicious. The happy hour with the cheap oysters was nice, but we wanted to try more than just those three, so most of our oysters were full price. Id have no problem recommending this place to someone.

  • Review 56 (2021-02-28 - Rating: 5)

Fantastic food and service. The owner, Shane, brought by a small appetizer because we had to wait a few minutes for our table. What we ate:1) Oysters - chef’s pick2) Grilled Octopus3) Soft-shell crab with gnocchiAll were excellent. Definitely coming back to this place again - maybe for lunch next time.

  • Review 57 (2022-06-23 - Rating: 5)

Upstate not only has the best Happy Hour in the area - $12 for 6 amazing oysters and a beer, but their whole menu is delicious and so reasonably priced. We had soft shell crab last week, Linguini with Clams, and an amazing surf and turf. Everything was delicious

  • Review 58 (2020-10-26 - Rating: 5)

The service and food was terrific. We had a great selection of oysters, all tastey and affordable with their solid happy hour special, when paired with a wine or beer. The octopus dish flavoring with potatoes was unique and prepared very well. The linguini and clams was also phenomenal. The flavoring, proportions and pricing all add to make this a great great choice. Highly recommend.

  • Review 59 (2018-05-05 - Rating: 5)

Incredible sea food. Crab, fish, scallops, everything is excellent and fresh!! Highly recommend this place!

  • Review 60 (2022-05-22 - Rating: 5)

The oyster and beer happy hour is great. Love the selection of seafood and at the price point there are no complaints. Octopus was great. Skip the dark and stormy unless you want a limey drink.

  • Review 61 (2024-08-28 - Rating: 5)

The service was the best service I have ever experienced. Hands down. My friend and I were looked after so well, just that right amount of care, humor and leaving us alone. The oysters were fresh and delicious. I loved the tuna tartar and the squid ink pasta was buttery and full of flavor.I loved my watermelon mezcal cocktail too. The whole vibe is chill, simple and friendly.I’ll be back, it was such a special dinner.

Great place for oysters , craft beers and small dishes! Never disappoints!

  • Review 63 (2019-03-21 - Rating: 5)

I moved here three weeks ago and have visited four times. This place has very good, fresh seafood. The oysters on happy hour are a great deal. Place is always busy so come early or be prepared to wait. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and friendly. In the dozen or so places I went over the past three weeks, this is my favorite so far!

  • Review 64 (2021-05-20 - Rating: 5)

Cannot beat the happy hour here. $12 for 6 oysters and a beer. Regular menus are also great. They only serve fresh seafood, not frozen ones.Outdoor seating area was cozy and well decorated.

  • Review 67 (2022-01-03 - Rating: 5)

The absolute best in regards to oysters, clams and mussels. Everything about this place is absolutely outstanding. The service in this place is phenomenal. The food is absolutely superb. And the music is of pristine taste. I highly recommend to all. Please check this place out. You will not regret it. I will most definitely be coming again. This place is absolutely immaculate. I am also drunk. Cause their IPA’s are just top notch. Definitely come here!!!!!

  • Review 68 (2020-09-19 - Rating: 5)

Holy heck, the food here is good. I could eat everything on this menu based on how much I liked every fish my friends and I had the night that we went. If you can eat here, splurge! The portions are smaller, such that you can share with a couple friends. We knew that going in. Even so, the price was so so so good for this quality of food. Highly recommend!

  • Review 69 (2019-04-26 - Rating: 5)

Awesome happy hour: 6 oysters and a beer or for $12!

  • Review 70 (2014-08-22 - Rating: 5)

My boyfriend and I love to go to happy hour here, and often we stay for dinner as well. The 6 oysters + craft beer for $12 is a great happy hour deal! For entrees, we often order the clam linguine and the scallops over risotto. Service is always quick, and weve never waited too long for a table even though it is a small place. Definitely check it out for reasonably priced, casual seafood.

  • Review 71 (2019-04-24 - Rating: 5)

Im not even an oyster eater but all their foods are fantastic nonetheless whether you go for oysters or other seafood dishes (like I do). In this small, bustling, and somewhat darkish dining den, you will experience such an epitome ambience of East Village--the neighborhood--with an amazing selection of beers and wines. The only complain would be a daunting amount of waiting time, but its worth it, I believe.

  • Review 72 (2023-03-14 - Rating: 5)

I so badly want to keep this restaurant to myself so it doesnt get too busy, but I cant do it! The people MUST know how incredible it is! 10/10 in every aspect from service, menu options, food quality, pricing, vibe... has instantly become my favorite neighborhood restaurant. Cant wait to return!

  • Review 73 (2019-02-12 - Rating: 5)

Outstanding oysters. Long list. Fresh daily. Some exclusive where they buy out the farm. They have other things on the menu to round out the meal. But if you dont like oysters, this is not the restaurant you are looking for. They do a stupidly popular happy hour offer of a select number of oysters, 6 and a beer for $12. Decent but its only going to whet your appetite.

  • Review 74 (2020-11-23 - Rating: 5)

Upstate has done a great job with their outdoor dining setup. Its covered and neither the service nor the food have waned. Whatever you do, get the scallop dish of the evening. They do such a great job with recommending oysters, they wont steer you wrong. Consistently great seafood place!

  • Review 75 (2020-02-07 - Rating: 5)

Upstate never disappoints! They offer a great variety of oysters and wine for happy hour.

  • Review 76 (2023-06-16 - Rating: 5)

Been on my list given it’s in the neighbourhood and on multiple NYC HH spots. Was truly impressed by the food. Oyster - agree with other reviewers prob the best in the city I’ve tried. There was touches of Japanese infused flavours that I wasn’t 100% thrilled by but regardless delicious. Squid ink pasta with uni & fish roe was the most delicious dish between textures and flavours. We shared everything plus had a cocktail each which was perfect. Will definitely return for HH.

  • Review 77 (2014-03-20 - Rating: 4)

We went for the oyster happy hour. (6 oysters that you choose from a list with a beer for $12) It was great. Best advice that I can give: Go right when they open. We got there at 5pm and literally by 5:30 the place was full. Our table was right by the door and we kept hearing them turn people away. They took some names at first but then they just sent people elsewhere. This place is small but super cute. The oysters were delicious and with the beer special its really great. I definitely want to go back and try their food.

  • Review 78 (2018-07-29 - Rating: 5)

Absolute best happy hour oyster place... best oysters in the city in terms of freshness, variety, rotation as well as the technical ability of their head cook/shucker... done so quickly and cleanly. Been 5 years and this is my go to spot for oyster craving. Also great rotating selection of craft ny beers and other seafood dishes! Only negative is that I find some of their cooked seafood options to be a bit underseasoned so I just stick to the raw appetizers which are super fresh and amazing.

Amazing seafood. Great atmosphere. Reasonable prices. Best NY restaurant we have been to all week. Our 12yr old loved the fettuccine. I loved the mixed seafood bowl & my husbond loved the cod. Cant wait to go back. Well worth the 45 min wait.

Great casual spot in the east village for shellfish and beer. Youll find a small area for tables but a nice bar seating area. Service was outstanding as they explained all available oysters available and the different varieties of beer. We went for the siracha shrimp which looked fresh with the heads still on to add flavor and a nice kick. The seared scallops which had a nice ocean scallop flavor and the go to items a variety of oysters. Great price point on the oysters and suggestions from staff were spot on for sweetness and brineyness. Large variety of beers to accompany as well which will suit your taste.

  • Review 83 (2014-01-09 - Rating: 5)

Always a good time. The wait staff is top notch, not a single bad egg, ever. Amazing seafood and the craft beer selection rotates very often. They nailed the atmosphere and the kitchen is completely visible. Serious quality here.

Nice dinner in a cozy place. Regarding the oysters if you are new to them, I suggest to ask the waiter to guide you through the long list. For the rest the menu is not very vast but all the food we tried was delicious.

  • Review 85 (2018-05-04 - Rating: 5)

Excellent service. And seafood you can only dream about...Here they guide you to the best and have a no nonsense kitchen with a twist.I came for a beer and left with three beers, six oysters and a very well made squid in my belly.I will come back, though I live 5000 km from this fantastic place.

  • Review 89 (2016-10-25 - Rating: 5)

Wish I found this place before my last night in NY!Food, service and prices are all wins. Not a fan on oysters but the menu had enough of a selection that I had more than enough to choose from. The crab cakes and tuna tartar are great starters and the scallop special with mushroom risotto was very well prepared. No one rice grain was left on our plate. The great food paired with a good selection of wines and craft beers (have the fruit fly) was only made better by the great service sitting at the bar.Tucked away under a dark awning next to a flood of christmas lights from the Indian restaurants next door, you could easily miss it if you arent looking. So swing by the East Village and def keep an eye out for it.Will def come back again and certainly recommend to others.

This is the second time back. I had the squid ink pasta with uni which was very good and rich. Portion size was a bit small but worth it. Cant stop thinking about it. Definitely will be back to try their other dishes and oysters.

Amazing spot with great seafood selection. Oyster are to die for and crab cakes are super delish!!!

  • Review 94 (2012-09-24 - Rating: 5)

Amazing seafood at pretty decent prices. The lobster bake was out of this world. It was crispy and delicious, served on a bed of potatoes and beans which was a killer texture combination. The beer selection was a little weak (or rather, the beers themselves were a little low ABV for my taste) but overall a great place.

  • Review 95 (2016-06-28 - Rating: 5)

This is my and my husbands favorite place in all of east village! Their craft beer selection, prices on oysters, and quality service is unbeatable for the village! Its perfect for any occasion, including the solo dining with a nice book .

  • Review 96 (2018-03-30 - Rating: 5)

Outstanding all around experience! Arrived just after 5pm and got the last two seats at the bar. Between 5 and 7 you can get 6 oysters and a beer for $12. We used the first round to find our favourite and then ordered a dozen more. The mains are also fantastic with an excellent variety of seafood delights. A must visit for any seafood lover!

  • Review 97 (2023-01-14 - Rating: 5)

Just delightful. The seafood was so good. No oysters tonight, but the chefs making the food are so right on. The staff is great.

  • Review 98 (2018-07-14 - Rating: 4)

Amazing selection of oysters with solid enough small plates and entrees. The craft beer description is misleading for any local beer fans or experts (expect 6 on tap from established Brooklyn breweries). The service was good but the space crowded and they did not have French fries (strange right)? Go for oysters and small plates.

  • Review 99 (2022-10-08 - Rating: 5)

Definitely love the new menu, Fruto Du Mar pasta is the best. The west coast Canadian oysters are as sweet as usual. The blood orange beer is finally back. The real surprise was a free ceviche stater ! That’s wonderful for a Friday night dinner

  • Review 100 (2022-12-28 - Rating: 5)

So good, went here a couple times while in New York and always sat in the outdoor section. Really nice cocktails (they are also very willing to turn them into mocktails) and all of the seafood was great.

Upstate will always have a special place in my heart, its where I fell in love with my boyfriend. Its hard to walk in here, theres always a wait, but if you can sneak in and sit at the bar definitely choose to do that. The bartenders and especially the owner, Shane, are so personable and helpful while youre ordering. The oyster sampler is a great value and always fresh, they have a really interesting selection of beer on tap, and always suggest a perfect wine pairing with the seafood. Oh, the mussel broth is one of the best Ive had in my life. They will usually give you a an amuse bouche or two because thats just the kind of atmosphere Upstate has.Truly spectacular, I hope Upstate exists forever and I cant wait to go back for our anniversary :)

Come for the cioppino and the fish special of the day with roasted veggies (changes often), stay for the complimentary slice of bourbon pound cake at the end... and make sure you grab a reservation via Yelp or join the waitlist beforehand because tables are hard to come by in the small space. Fairly loud. Sadly they’ve changed the menu so they don’t currently have the cioppino but it used to be their best entree!

  • Review 109 (2016-09-01 - Rating: 5)

Best oyster HH in the city. Amazing variety and all very fresh. Plus the HH beers are far beyond the macro junk served at most places in the neighborhood. Can also compliment with other seafood tapas to round out the meal. If you can get a seat, hold on to it as long as you can.

  • Review 110 (2024-10-13 - Rating: 5)

Ive been coming to Upstate for a little over two years and every time I come, it never disappoints. But before I get to the awesomeness there are two things that you need to be aware of which I think if you get over; you will have a great time. You need to be prepared to wait but its LES near St. Marks. Just put your name down and they will text you. If youre hungry and getting restless in waiting Id say stop by Lukes Lobster and grab a quick snack with whoever youre going with (Sorry Shane for advertising another food place). Large groups are tough given the footprint of the restaurant however if you call and let them know ahead of time theyll do their best to accommodate.Ill start with the Oysters. Probably the best selection you can get in all of Manhattan without paying over 3 dollars an oyster. I would say as comprehensive as Aquagrill. Texture, tastes and quality is top tier. The half-dozen and beer for $12 is bang for your buck. Yes people need to stop telling me about the $8 dollar special at other places because its apples to oranges. Ill pay $4 more any day and pass up the Bluepoint and PBR special.Ive pretty much tried everything on the menu but ill talk about my favorites. To start or to share I would say the crab cakes and salmon tartar is the best. Crab cakes come with a little arugula and honey. This creates a taste that blends well as it creates a a great bitter sweet taste. Im a tartar fan so Ill say its seasoned well and is definitely sushi grade salmon. Followed by the octo salad and whatever they have ceviche. Im okay with these two but not my favorite.Entrees that I usually if not always get the linguine with clams, scallops with seasonal vegetables and the fish special. The linguine is definitely more on the garlic side but I love it. Scallops are always nicely grilled on the outside on high heat and still soft in the middle. Tough to comment on the fish because it changes seasonally but I would say its always flaky, never overcooked and fresh. To top it off is a slice of homemade whiskey cake. Cant beat that. I usually top off the night with a glass of Rose (which I always get made fun of for but its a great way to finish the night after 2-3 beers).I love this place and will be going here as long as its around.

  • Review 111 (2019-04-07 - Rating: 5)

One of my favorite Italian American / seafood restaurants in Manhattan! Start your meal with a few oysters. The crab cake is cooked to perfection. You must try the Cioppino! The fish & seafood stew comes in a generous portion, and the tomato broth that it is cooked in is amazing! The fettuccine w clams is also very satisfying, quite filling. Just beware it’s crowded & noisy here and the wait is usually ~45 minutes at dinner time. Book in advance!

  • Review 112 (2017-11-02 - Rating: 5)

Loved everything about this place except the wait. Always crowded but worth the wait every time. Their oysters are the freshest and the tapas looking platters are so so good. Can not pass by this place when were in the vincinity.

We were 15 minutes earlier for their 5 oclock opening. The staff wasnt very friendly telling us to come back at 5 oclock.Well, when we returned just at quarter past 5 oclock, the bar is already full! We were seated quickly and our server is very nice.It has a good selection of oysters. For happy hours, you get a dozen oysters with beer for a special price which is worth it cos we tried 4 different kinds of oysters! Then we ordered blue whale which are huge oysters, not on happy hour menu but they are meaty!! So good pairing with brown ale!Oh this place has a good selection of beer as well. The fettuccini is amazing! Big clams, 9 of them are fresh, juicy, the fettuccini cooked with garlic butter and cheese just smells and taste divine! For just $16, unbelievable !Mussels are huge too and fresh! The only problem I have is that the mussels still has sands in them. The soup of the mussels is just YUM!

Several weeks ago, I learned that 88 Palace hired the dim sum chef from Golden Unicorn and I was somewhat eager to revisit this restaurant for the first time in many years. 88 Palaces popularity stems from their great deal of every dim sum for $1.50. This promotion to win over patrons has proven to be very successful, but one has to wonder how much longer the restaurant can survive on such small margins as a result of it. It is highly recommended that people arrive early, or your craving of cheong fun (rice noodle rolls) might go unsatisfied. As a fan of the dim sum at The Golden Unicorn Restaurant at the E.Bway and Catherine Street, 88 Palace definitely showed tremendous improvement in the diversity and presentation of their offerings. All of the main dim sum items such as shumai, cheong fun, fung zao, and spare ribs were served hot and tasty. And the turnip cake actually has turnip in it ! I am glad to see that the investment into improving the quality of their dim sum has paid off. It has made 88 Palace a cheap and (dare I even say) solid choice for dim sum goers. On a side note, as Jando had mentioned in his review, beware of the old man servicing the mens room!

I had an amazing time here to celebrate my bday. Asked the Waiter(super chill guy) what his recommendations were for oysters and got 2 of each and he gave us a little knowledge of texture and taste. They had a mango habanero hot sauce that went amazing with the oysters. Then we got tuna tartare(spectacular) followed by burrata with golden beets(this was by far the best burrata type dish I’ve ever tried) and a weekly special of crawfish(it was indeed special and tasty). All went well with the Prosecco they had. They had a great beer selection too but wasn’t in the mood for any! Then they gave us this pound cake for dessert on the house and it was so good.If you’re an oyster person this place is a no brainer
