I love when the people who work at an ethnic restaurant speak and know the culture of the cuisine. So true with Russian Samovar. The evening jazz band was a bonus to our dining experience. We had the borscht and wild mushroom soup accompanied by two chicken dishes and cherry dumplings for dessert. All were tasty! -

Stepping into this place was like a nostalgic journey back to the Soviet Union era, complete with samovars, red leather chairs, and metal cup holders. The food had a delightful homemade quality to it. While the prices were a tad on the higher side, it almost felt like they were factoring in the cost of a time travel ticket – they even charged $8 for a cup of hot water! 😧 The service was efficient, though initially, we had a fleeting feeling of being uninvited guests upon our arrival. -

The food here is my favorite. Period. The chicken Kiev and Duck Ala Russe were the best I’ve had in NYC. Also had a lovely cranberry ginger drink and the infused vodka is also a treat. Be sure to try the medovik with Russian tea served with cherries for dessert. The atmosphere is comfortable and cozy. The servers are attentive, kind and helpful. This was our second time there and we had a great time. -

Unsuspecting piano bar a few minutes off Times Square. We tried a few of the Russian cocktails and were pleased with the variety of options available. The music was good, but bar service was definitely slow. Food looked really expensive, but I’d give it a chance if I’m ever back in town. -

Omg! It’s a gem! They really keeps traditions here. Downstairs is a restaurant and Upstairs is a 2 rooms which you can rent. Beautiful atmosphere. Delicious food! Just an amazing!!!! -

Ive been here many times over several years. Excellent ambiance and food. The service is cordial and usually good, though occasionally it can be slow and disorganized. But even then with a bit of effort it works out. The short ribs are my favorite, the best Ive had anywhere. The Olivier salad is excellent. But what makes the experience extra special is the beautiful and amazingly talented pianist. The flavored vodkas are not to be missed. -

Strange little place. Russian food and drink, however, not a Russian in sight. Bartender was Mexican, cooks were Mexican. -Nothing wrong with that just an observation. Ordered shuba, gribnoi, pirozhok, black bread , and Ру́сский Станда́рт. Everything was served quickly except for the black bread that never arrived. Food was very fresh and excellent compared with other local Russian places. Prices are outrageous but what else can you expect in NYC? -

On Saturday 11/9 we went to Russian Samovar in early afternoon and I had a medical emergency. The staff were amazing!! Helpful and caring. Unfortunately we were not able to stay and enjoy a meal but plan to the next time we are in NYC. I want to thank everyone who was there. Thank you, Thank you Thank you!! -

If youre craving excellent Russian food in Manhattan, this spot is a must-visit! The dishes are authentic, flavorful, and expertly prepared. With a cozy atmosphere and friendly service, its a perfect place for a memorable meal. Highly recommend! -
Review 10 (2021-11-16 - Rating: 4)
Was my first time here and I thought it was a good overall experience. Food seemed authentic so it does live up to its name. Staff may not be the most warm, free flowing, but they mean well. And frankly I think it’s more of a cultural thing. Anyway, if you’re interested in some authentic Russian food, this is your spot. -
Review 11 (2024-10-15 - Rating: 4)
Food was delicious. My first time trying Russian food. I loved the beet salad & the smoked salmon wrapped in crepes. I’d definitely recommend these dishes. They had a gypsy dancing & someone singing. It’s very authentic & culture is truly kept. I tend to love very contemporary modern spaces with multicultural crowds but it was nice to experience this traditional ambiance. It definitely had its niche. If you’re looking for authentic delicious fresh Russian food, atmosphere & ambiance, I’d recommend. -
Review 12 (2019-03-25 - Rating: 5)
Good food, good service. The pianist showed up about halfway through our dinner and was a nice touch to the atmosphere. I had the salmon belini appetizer, a Moscow mule, and chicken Kiev and it was all super delicious. -

This was my first time to this restaurant and they did not disappoint! The look and side from the exterior is very deceiving! The place is rather large! Let’s put it this way, the restroom is normal size stalls and not just 1 stall but 3! I know! Unheard of in NYC! Very clean I might add!We opted for the prix fix meal which included, an appetizer, soup, entree, dessert and coffee or tea. Our appetizer was the Vinegret which is roasted beets, potato, onion (not mentioned on menu) and pickle salad in sunflower oil. I’m not a fan of beets and the onions were rather strong with this. I would go with another choice. Soup was the borscht which was delicious. Served with sour cream on the side. Yes, this is beet soup but this kind of beet, I enjoy! In addition to the prix fix meal I also ordered the Deruny which is pan fried potato pancakes. The serving is 2 large potato pancakes with sour cream on the side. They are rather large and dense with potato. Very tasty! The entree was beef stroganoff which is strips of tenderloin in a mushroom cream sauce served with buttered egg noodles. The sauce is rich and very good. It is nicely presented in a cast iron pan with the noodles on the side. The portion looks small, but believe me it isn’t! We actually had left overs. For dessert we had the Smetannik Cake which is traditional layered cake with sour cream! Absolutely amazing! There was flavor of vanilla, chocolate, spice, orange zest, raisins and more that we couldn’t figure out! One of the best cakes I’ve ever eaten! Similar texture of a carrot cake but better! Tea is served with cherry preserves! Put that in the tea and it makes a world of a difference! I’m not sure if I will ever drink tea without preserves in it again! After you drink all the tea, don’t waste those cherries, they are delicious! Just watch for the pits! All this for $45 with the exception of the potato pancakes!Service was perfect! Julia was our server and she was attentive, friendly, helpful and totally deserving of a 25% tip, which I left!Atmosphere was so enjoyable. Several samovars were on display in the restaurant. Staff spoke Russian and English very well! Made the restaurant more authentic hearing the language being spoken. The music was modern set to a jazz beat which was so enjoyable. I never heard Ariana Grande so jazzy! I truly enjoyed it. Around 6:30pm a piano player began to play.Very enjoyable dining experience! Right next to the Neil Simon Theatre! Parking garages right across the street.I will definitely return and recommend to others!Covid-19 protocols: Vaccination proof and ID. Masks not required at this time! -

Food here is okay, better places to get Russian food, but the piano was wonderful. Staff was great and the place was clean. The tables are a little close together. Flavored vodkas are worth a try. If youre in the area stop by. -

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ OUTSTANDING !!! My wife and I came here last night to celebrate our anniversary and we had an AMAZING time !!! We were greeted with a smile. The atmosphere and ambiance is just right. We felt as if we were back in Russia. The food was on point. We started off with their famous infused vodka shots and then tried some of their cocktails, LOVE !!! The staff are incredibly friendly. They made us feel welcome and entertained. The food was excellent !!! Everything was prepared fresh. We tried the traditional dishes, YUMMY !!! The band and music was just perfect. We left feeling great. Again, the atmosphere, the ambiance, the staff, the music, the band, the food --- Everything & everyone was excellent. This was our first time there and we cannot wait to go back !!! Our waiter was amazing !!! -
Review 16 (2017-11-11 - Rating: 5)
This place is amazing. Im a regular here and it doesnt matter if you come here alone or with someone you are guaranteed a good time. Bartenders are amazing, especially Pasha (Pavel). Sweetest guy out there. Food is amazing and drinks are ridiculously strong. Just the way the Russians ordered. -
Review 17 (2020-01-24 - Rating: 4)
Russian Samovar has every vodka infusion imaginable and they do it all in house. They have some funky ones like garlic but a good way to try them all is getting a vodka flight of 6 for $24, instead of $6 each. You can order a flight to be shared among friends. Have 4 or 5 (depending on your tolerance) vodka shots or vodka-infused shots and still feel functional the next morning. There is live music and piano playing on most evenings. It can get pretty lively later in the evening. Overall, its good great food and excellent quality vodka. Love the atmosphere and crowd here. Its a real one of a kind experience in New York, and close to Times Square. However, it tends to end up being pretty pricey with food and drinks and the coat check is mandatory and not complimentary. -
Review 18 (2024-09-08 - Rating: 5)
Great little getaway in a the madness of the theater district. The food was amazing and tasted just like my grandmother would make , maybe even better. I had the borschtini to drink which was unique and had all the flavors of east block. Enjoyed the pilimini as an appetizer with plenty of sour cream. So good! I also love the play on words for Russian tea room. This place is more authentic and more charming. The live misic was also very delightful! This is in my top 5 favoritesin Manhattan! -

This unsuspecting place, tucked away off 8th Ave and 52nd is an NYC gem. It is a reminder that even in 2022, there are still many old school NY places to be found and experienced. Its a flair of 80s-90s era NY with a taste of exquisite Russian cuisine. There is a wide selection of vodkas and cocktails available. If youd like to try multiple flavors try the flight of 5.We had the: Fish Platter, Vareniki, and Kasha & Mushrooms. It was the perfect amount of food for 2 people.- The Fish Platter comes with blini and has 3 styles of smoked or cured fish. It was very savory and fresh.- The Varenki was a good serving size for sharing, especially if getting additional plates.- The Kasha & Mushrooms was interesting. It was a smaller portion but the dish was hearty. -

Review 22 (2021-04-22 - Rating: 5)
Perfect perfect perfect!!! What else can I really say? I wanted a nice chill atmosphere with live music for my dads 60th birthday dinner with our giant family and came upon this place on the googler. Turns out the famed owner was a client of my dads shop pre-covid which was a nice surprise! Anyway regarding the important stuff like food and service, I mean everything was freaking delicious, from the herring, shuba and caviar to the mushroom potatoes, branzino and cornish hen! My pops is an extremely picky eater and most importantly he loved it. Dessert was soooo decadent-- side note my hubbs has been begging me to make chocolate kartoshka for a week now 😂 they even let us bring out a special cake my fam made for my dad! Service was EVERYTHING and really made the night what it was-- all the servers were on point and really nice- special thanks to them! And lastly, if you want some cool photos they have a really cool room upstairs so you can stunt on the gram 😎😁 -

ITS NOT OK !!!!!!we went with our family and a toddler to eat lunch, the food was delicious, especially the soup and salads! we started speaking Russian and ordering, the waitress Maria decided to speak English to us, although she understood what we were saying, and she answered our daughter in Ukrainian! I understand that there is a war going on in her country and it hurts her, but we came to a Russian restaurant and my child does not know Ukrainian, it is your choice Maria to work in a Russian restaurant! it was very uncomfortable -

I had a wonderful dining experience at Russian Samovar. The vareniki was cooked perfectly, and the borscht had a delightful blend of flavors. Our server was friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. The atmosphere was cozy, perfect for a night out. Overall, I felt it was worth the price, and I cant wait to come back and try the dessert! -

Delicious food! I was with a group of six. We were seated comfortably, serviced quickly, and the food was prepared exquisitely. Not having had Russian cuisine before, we just ordered and sampled a bunch of appetizers. They were all mouth-watering! Can’t wait to go back the next time I’m in the city! -

Visited on NYE when they had only 3 servers for the whole restaurant. It was shameful service & costomers were so mad. We felt bad for those poor servers. They were trying their best but... Owners to blame.Food was amazing, really enjoyed beef stroganoff. Wonderful Ambience. -

At a triple birthday celebration for good friends, I stuffed myself with all the delicious treats that were on the dinner buffet in the party room upstairs. The red lights was a little strange. Drinks were flowing along either the conversation. A little loud at times. Had a great time. -

Love love love this place. My first time was in August and I kept coming back. They had music upstairs, good cool vibe. People were just there to have fun. It’s a good mix of people. Downstairs is more laid back. People sit around the bar and chat with the friendly bartenders. Always a good vibe whenever I come here. Their flavored vodkas are good and so unique, never had anything like it. Will continue to take friends here. -

Review 52 (2022-12-12 - Rating: 5)
My wife and I have been wanting to visit this place for years but never seemed to make it. We finally came for an early dinner and were pleasantly surprised. The shashlik was unbelievably delicious, the best I ever had. The chicken was moist and tender with an amazing seasoning grilled into it. My wife had the branzino (fish) and loved it as well. My mother in law cooks amazing Russian cuisine. She has competition with Russian Samovar. -
Review 53 (2023-12-26 - Rating: 4)
Nice atmosphere but too cramped. Barely any space between bar seats and tables. Beer price is way too high. $12 for a baltika 7 is crazy. -
Review 54 (2021-03-23 - Rating: 5)
Last Thursday I visited Russian Samovar. There is no words to express my delight. The food was great. The waitresses made me feel like home, very friendly. But very special note for musician Andrey. His performance was amazing. He was able to play such a wide variety of music from classical to jazz in unique improvisational manner. Thank you for your hospitality! -
Review 55 (2024-02-17 - Rating: 4)
I was glad to spend the evening here with friends! We had to wait about 1:20 for food which was a long time. The waiters speak Russian well, but not all dishes and drinks from the menu can be explained and presented correctly by them. Anyway, the food was hot and amazing. Beef Stroganoff, Kiev cutlet, mashed potatoes, honey cake😍❤️.Restaurant also open until late at night, which is also good if you decide to have a drink here and stay late.😅I recommend coming here with time to spare -
Review 56 (2023-08-25 - Rating: 5)
The 1980s Soviet pop music playing when we entered got old real fast, since its basically the same few tracks on repeat, but the situation was soon remedied when live music started. Those guys were awesome, and they can render anything from Sinatras New York New York to Bernes Shalandy extremely well. Food was authentic and very good, although they were, understandably, shortstocked on the Russian beer. Would absolutely come back! -
Review 57 (2021-09-23 - Rating: 5)
Kind of old worldy with red interior and pictures lining the walls. Food was delicious and service was excellent. Will go again. -
Review 58 (2023-12-23 - Rating: 5)
The Russian Samovar is a cool bar. Im writing this review after going to a Russian LGBTQ event there. It was a really nice and enjoyable event, reminding me of good times in the past. I felt comfortable and at home. Ive been to that restaurant before and the food was really good. Its a fantastic place and always enjoyable. The staff, who are friendly Ukrainians, make it even better. 💛💙🫶🏻🎄 -
Review 59 (2023-07-20 - Rating: 4)
A wonderful piano player provides the background for this Russian Restaurant. Excellent service and a number of good choices from a menu of Russian cuisine makes for an enjoyable experience. The food, is not what it should be. The Beef Stroganoff, for example was served warm, not hot like it should have been. The restaurant is in a very good location for Broadway theater. -
Review 60 (2021-11-10 - Rating: 4)
Atmosphere, food, and drinks were amazing. Waitstaff and hostess were the best. They gave my wife (and i) a great time for our anniversary. Shes russian and says the place is just the best. I took one star because the bartender wasnt the greatest. Kind of annoyed that we asked for a few things. Also, he had no change for a 20 to tip the piano player which is strange for a restaurant in Manhattan. Either way this place is definitely worth it. -
Review 61 (2021-12-20 - Rating: 5)
This is the BEST authentic Russian restaurant! If you go on Friday night there will be a few gentleman playing instruments and singing traditional Russian songs. The food is delicious and so is the tea and dessert. If you want to experience how the Russians party this is a must! I do recommend making a reservation because they get filled quick. -
Review 62 (2024-11-27 - Rating: 4)
While the restaurant and the menu are a good glimpse of Russian culture and heritage, the service leaves much to be desired for. Unfortunately understaffed and poorly managed. May not warrant the prices posted. -
Review 63 (2019-06-27 - Rating: 5)
My husband and I came here for a delayed honeymoon dinner and had a wonderful time! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was very classy and the music was amazing! I even made a request for them to play the Cheburashka theme song and it was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!! We will definitely be back here again. I definitely recommend this place to all couples; new and old! -
Review 64 (2021-07-03 - Rating: 5)
Best stroganoff you can ask for. Vodka selection is fantastic, so many homemade flavors. Cucumber vodka and soda is my favorite, but I have tried so many different flavors. Just get a flight and try them all 🤷♀️ will definitely go back often enough that they will get sick of me. Live Russian music is my jam. -

I was there for a friend’s birthday party. They had live music and dancing which was pretty fun! Food was also good. -
Review 70 (2016-05-24 - Rating: 4)
Id like to echo others reviews in that I am not sure why people are bashing this place. I had a lovely and unfortunately brief visit. My attentive waiter, helped me to judiciously choose from several vodka options. He suggested that I pair it with the caviar blinis. I skipped the main course and went straight to tea and dessert. The portions were great and the atmosphere was luxe! On my way out my waiter asked the manager to bring me upstairs to see the Grand ballroom which was typically closed at that time of day. Wow what stunning grandeur. I cant wait to bring my husband back and sample the main courses! -
Review 71 (2024-10-12 - Rating: 5)
5 stars isn’t enough I would gladly give this place 10 stars, food was amazing but the thing that stood out was the service are waiter Moon was phenomenal. Best service I’ve ever received in my entire life! -
Review 72 (2024-10-11 - Rating: 5)
Baba AKA Moon is the heart of this place! We came into this restaurant to experience Russian cuisine and got so much more because of him. Much love from Texas! -
Review 73 (2022-04-04 - Rating: 4)
The atmosphere is great, dimly lit with lots of fabric, soft lighting, live music, and low ceilings. Its cramped, and I like that for the most part except that old women would always be chatting in the aisle with their shopping bags, making it impassable. They are sturdy as well, unlike the vodka which seems like it settles at a soft 20-25% abv, making it hard to get drunk enough to start pushing them over. I did see one girl fall out of her barstool, so she found a way, but I polished off 2 carafes worth of cranberry vodka and I felt like I could have landed a plane safely. Perhaps she brought her own.Overall a solid experience. I would not recommend coming with a party of 15 like I did. Feels more suited towards intimacy. Also maybe get drunk before you come. 4 stars. -
Review 74 (2018-11-20 - Rating: 5)
This is an amazing place to visit after catching a show – or a taping of the Late Show with Stephen Colbert! Great music, food, and service at this piano bar. Our server, Moon, did such a fantastic job taking care of us. Loved the delicious selection of infused Russian vodkas…try Plum!! Also, if you’re going to treat yourself to Russian caviar, do it here. We will most definitely come back on our next visit. -
Review 75 (2018-02-15 - Rating: 5)
I honestly cant believe I have never been to Russian Samovar before now! Apart from the historic jazz setting of the restaurant, the drinks are absolutely to die for! 6 different flavors of infused vodka and the best Moscow Mules this side of Russia itself! I also had the salmon dish, which was so so fresh and flavorful I almost asked for a second just to bring home with me. Definitely a must visit spot in the Theater District! -

Review 78 (2021-03-30 - Rating: 5)
Dining at Russian Samovar is like spending the evening with your dear and super culinary Russian bestie. There are cultural touches throughout that make a Russian feel at home and a traveler to exclaim, hey, is that...?!There is a good variety in food and vodka, so everyone can find something to enjoy about this little Russian haven. The live piano performer was incredible! Exactly what one needs to hear and feel when returning to our new normal.Make a reservation, because its so much easier and safer than booking a ticket to Russia! -

My girlfriend and I never tried Russian food before so we decided to visit Russian Samovar Restaurant & Piano Bar a few days ago. I stared my night with an awesome Moscow Mule and later on, decided to try some of their flavored vodkas such as pepper, cucumber, peach and cranberry. I still cant decide which one is my favorite! For appetizer we shared the Tomato & Bryndza and Vinegret salads. For entree I tried the Chicken Kiev with mashed potatoes and a side of avocado, it was so rich! This place has it all: live music, great service, amazing food and the best vodkas. I had a great time and Im definitely coming back soon! -

From the time I first learned of this restaurant I wanted to go. Yesterday, I was in the city and my feet brought me here. The ambiance was perfect for a pre theater dinner or just a peaceful moment away from the grind of the city. Prices for me, a non-city dweller, were higher than normal but I saw a menu for a pre fixe meal and went for it. I had what I thought was a traditional Russian meal which consisted of an appetizer of: Vinegret; Entrée of Beef Stroganoff, Dessert of Smetannik Cake and a Hot Russian Tea with whole cherry 🍒 preserves with lemon & honey 🍯 😋. It was a very tasty meal but for me i thought the portions were a tad small on the Entrée and dessert though at my age it was probably just right. The meal was extremely tasty with flavors I never imagined to be able to taste. The live piano music was just perfect for any reason that brought you here. My rating is low only because I expect more on my plate. Service was great and I love that it is a family run business that has its roots and traditions set in the Ukraine 🇺🇦 as well as Russian heritage. I highly recommend this restaurant for all the flavors and heritage they have brought to the United States 🇺🇸 of America. -

Before coming here my only exposure to Russian cuisine came in the from of beef stroganoff by hamburger helper, there is no comparison. I went with large group for a holiday party and was able to sample many items i wouldnt have ordered or expected to enjoy. I was surprised at how many items i recognized and would have never thought to be Russian. My favorite of these were the meat filled grape leaves, potato salad and the salmon stuffed pastry. Another dish i really liked was the short rib, it was so tender I ate just using my fork. -

Im sorry, but its a total disgrace to read certain reviews of this wonderful restaurant. I love all about it - music, food, environment.Im jewish and Im from Ukrane. But it was a part of a multicultural Soviet Union where most of us came from, and I respect all types of music - Russian, Ukrainian, Jewish, etc. This is America, not Russia nor Ukraine! Leave your political views and preferences outside, please! -

Recommended stop before or after a Broadway show. We decided to stop here before seeing Wicked. The Russian decor, the Russian service, and live music transported you to a Russian speak easy. The flavored vodka is a must try, we had mango and cucumber, both delightful and refreshing. Then we ordered a beer and white russian, delish! We only had appetizers since we were in a hurry, but made the right choice. We started off with two hot piroshki, one filled with with potato and mushroom and one filled with potato and onion, both exquisite. The warm flaky crust and soft potato center was a great compliment to a cold night. Three smoked fish platter served with warm blini with a dollop of sour cream when rolled up is the best combination of sweet and salty. The service was friendly and helpful. Prices were as expected for midtown Manhattan. -

It was my first time at a Russian restaurant! Me and my friend went in for dinner. We started off with a very delicious appetizer, pickled vegetables. I choose the prawn and avocado salad as my main dish. My friend had the chicken kiev. I can definitely tell you in all honesty, both were like tasting a little piece of heaven. The food was cooked so well! I loved my salad and prawns. The avocado mix was very tasty and had a great flavour to it. The prawns were cooked with a delicious sauce/spices. The mashed potatoes with the chicken kiev, made it all come together. It was above our expectations. Nonetheless, the armosphere was wonderfull. Such a traditional look and the live music tied it all together. The choice for piano and a very nice chill band, made the experience even better. Last but not least, the fact that one episode of Sex and the city was filmed there was very exciting! I really liked Russian Samovar, I think we had a very very pleasant dinner! And I will most certainly go back soon! -

Like many Russian restaurants , Russian Samovar is colorful but austere. I had the beef stroganoff and my lunch mate had the beef ribs. Just great! Located in the theater district , the evening business is their main stay. Lunch at 1:30 found the place empty. -

First of all, what impressed me the most was the decoration and the history of this place (I have to thanks the owner of the restaurant for sharing the history of this restaurant, it was really interesting).During our visit we shared different plates, such as the Siberian Pelmeni , the Khachapuri as hot appetizers. Then I took the Braised Short Ribs which was really flavorous and perfectly cooked. As dessert, I took the Zapekanka which was a kind of cheese cake, it was definitely so good.To finish, we were given very good advise on what to drink, indeed the infused vodkas, which was really interesting and very flavorous. The service was good, and the waiters were very nice with us. I definitely have a good time there. -

Love this place! Really makes you feel like you are in “authentic NYC”, every time I visit I feel transported in time. Since I first came here in 2013 their menu has changed a lot but recently they have returned to more traditional Russian dishes. Which is great!I love the live music also. This is one of those NYC must visit spots! If you are from Eastern Europe or ex USSR you will appreciate the nostalgia and all the memorabilia. -

The food is amazing, the decor is uniquely russian, and the service is ok. Absolutely worth the experience if youre looking for delicious and authentic russian food. Be careful if you go on nights with live music, the singing is uncomfortably loud. -

This is one of my all time classic NYC places. The homemade vodka is incredible, I love the caviar and blini plate with lox and sturgeon. The best entree is the beef stroganoff, and the pelmeni are a Russian classic. The wait staff was not as informed about the menu the last two times I was there, and the pelmeni used to be served with an incredible spicy mustard and sour cream, which they dont do now, but request it, trust me. -
Review 116 (2018-08-10 - Rating: 5)

We were visiting NYC for the weekend and decided to have dinner at Russian restaurant. We had a lunch which we really enjoyed. My friends had duck with apples and lamb “shashlyk” with russian style fried potatoes. I had baked black cod with some veggies. Omg we loved everything! Definitely would go back next time! Also they have live jazz music in the evenings. Unfortunately I don’t have any pics of food but trust me everything was perfect;)That place reminded restaurant from old Russian movies with samovar tea and friendly environment. -

It may be awkward to walk into a restaurant with Russia in the name but while Samovar pays homage to the art and music history of Russia it is pro Ukraine. The blue and yellow flag are displayed inside and out. The bar and living room are cozy and warm. The pianist makes it even more inviting. The food and vodka are excellent. Definitely recommend the Chicken Kiev. -

Unbeknownst to us, we came here during the Russian orthodox Christmas (and someones birthday). The live music was very good. The violinist in particular was fire. The service was quite good. Our server, Moon, demonstrated true Russian hospitality by making our salmon crepes for us. The food was pretty decent as well. The bread was warm and the butter was cold and square. The borscht was delicious and the house smoked salmon was special. The main course was quite good and very large in size. It was very much so enough. The night ended with some tea with cherries fresh from any Russian train while watching tone-deaf drunks take advantage of the karaoke. It was like traveling back to the motherland. -

This is a well hidden gem right in the theater district. Definitely be prepared to spend decent money here, but a great treat for us when we stay in the city for some shows over the weekend. The food is delicious and fresh. Fantastic selection for vodka drinkers - we tried dill infused and horseradish infused vodka which was great. Food is very filling so we want to come back and try items we didnt get to. We had a lovely waitress and loved the live pianist who kept a lovely mix of old Russian favorite, cartoon melodies from my childhood, and even Frank Sinatra going all evening. We will definitely be back! -
