A specialty store for food from Spain. Extremely authentic with many hard to find items. The meat and cheese selection was very good, with samples available. If you have a chance, stop in the cafe and sample a chorizo sandwich and sangria. Most items are also available on their website.

I recently stopped by Despaña for a quick weekday lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the authentic Spanish experience they offer. The cafe is a true gem, doubling as a gourmet Spanish marketplace stocked with premium foods straight from Spain. The moment you step inside, you feel transported to the Iberian Peninsula.I ordered the Picante Sandwich, and it did not disappoint. The sandwich was packed with flavor, with just the right amount of kick. The bread was fresh and perfectly crusty, and the meats were incredibly delicious, clearly of high quality. Its evident that Despaña takes pride in sourcing the finest ingredients.Whether youre grabbing a quick bite or looking to explore authentic Spanish products, Despaña Cafe is a must-visit. I cant wait to return and try more of their menu!

Despana is truly a hidden gem. I love that they offer Cidra, which is such a rare find! Its the perfect spot to either shop for authentic Spanish ingredients or bring out-of-town guests for a delightful experience. Enjoy delicious tapas paired with wine or cider, and browse an array of Spanish delicacies to stock your pantry with. Whether youre there to savor the flavors or take home a piece of Spain, Despana never disappoints.

  • Review 4 (2024-10-19 - Rating: 5)

This is a great lunch spot and the sandwiches are fantastic! It’s quite authentic Spanish tapas. They also serve dinner but surprisingly the menu is different. I’d recommend going there for brunch/lunch over dinner. Everything we tried from the lunch menu was superb!

  • Review 5 (2017-12-16 - Rating: 5)

This place definitely reminded me of when I was in Spain, from the people to the food to the music and the drinks. The food was delicious and the sangria was delightful. The place in inexpensive and cute. My friend went on a Thursday evening and it was not very crowded so we had a good time. The service was very friendly. Definitely ask for Martha as she was an awesome host!

  • Review 6 (2018-11-04 - Rating: 4)

A very cute grocery store with seats available inside.Their Iberico ham was very authentic. Tender and flavorful while not too salty, a definite healthy ham to have. Highly recommended if you have yet tried this type of ham. Other food was less impressive. The price is high, but consider their location this is understandable. A good spot to stop by for some small tapas for sure.Service was good and atmosphere very Spanish. Four star well deserved. They also have a wine store next door which I would like to check up next time. It looks great!

  • Review 7 (2024-07-21 - Rating: 5)

Dear Yoda! What a gem of a place ! This cozy like Spanish grocery store meets tapas bar will give anyone a perfect little trip through Spanish cuisine. The sangria was delicious. They have plenty of Spanish beers. It’s tiny little hidden gem in Lower Manhattan. Absolutely come by for their weekend dinner service or just a midday sandwich “bocadillos”. Salud! 🍷 🇪🇸

  • Review 8 (2018-10-16 - Rating: 5)

A hidden gem found wilde on food crawl. a wine store in the front with a small dining area around the back. you can order tapas or meat and cheese boards. everything was fairly inexpensive. food and service were good. will definitely come back.

  • Review 9 (2024-07-14 - Rating: 4)

A market with products from Spain and a restaurant at the back that serves dinner from 6:30-9:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. Ordered pan con tomato, croquetas with cod fish, iberico ham with grated manchego and pulpo (octopus). My favorite was the croquetas followed by the ham as a close second. The pulpo was good too but seasoning is only on the top and the pieces in the layers beneath need more seasoning. I think the pan con tomate was just ok.We were seated at the corner and it was hard to get service. Waited for 10 mins to get the check. Other than that, it was a great dinner and we will definitely be back.

  • Review 10 (2019-06-25 - Rating: 5)

A tasty and smokey aroma fills the store and gives you a prelude to how delicious everything is. There are samples of vinegar and olive oil and olives. They have the best truffle oil chips I have ever had and be sure to try their Chorizo sandwich.

  • Review 11 (2020-01-17 - Rating: 5)

Excellent hidden Tapas restaurant. We tried the chorizo sandwich and a few appetizers and they were all excellent, paired with very good Spanish wine. This is a great casual spot to stop by and grab a bite while I’m Soho. The seating is communal and very laid back.

  • Review 12 (2018-02-09 - Rating: 5)

Truly a gem! A friend of mine and I got a $20 bottle from Spain- super original I know. We got the Despaña sandwich which was delicious and one of the most popular in Spain -$10 & change. Will definitely come back and bring my boyfriend. He will love how the place is hidden and chill. Not too busy and a great space full of decorations of Spain and their authentic wines. You can come here for a light dinner and drink to catch up with a good old friend!

  • Review 13 (2019-09-09 - Rating: 5)

Walk in... Find a seat.... Order at the counter... go with the iberico ham platter, anything anchovies and THE SQUID INK PASTA!! its the 💣... it takes 30 minutes to make but well worth the time... and while you are waiting, go to the wine place next door and purchase a bottle free of cork fees... sit down, enjoy the wine and iberico ham... then dig in on the squid ink pasta... what a nice way to spend a weekend afternoon! 🦑🍝

  • Review 14 (2024-05-25 - Rating: 5)

I wanted to visit DeEspaña to purchase miniature chorizo snack bags. I was not aware that they also have a variety of ready-made pinxos, open-face sandwiches (tostas), croquetas as well as a great selection of wines by the glass. I took advantage that every last Saturday of the month they have a promotion for these tostas and pinchos. They also have a, well-stocked mini-market with imported Spanish olive oils, canned seafood, Calasparra rice (for authentic paellas) and many other products (they are importeras themselves). The food was delicious and the service was even more delightful. Highly recommended!

  • Review 15 (2024-12-06 - Rating: 5)

Very high-quality ingredients prepared and served with high standards.Very tasty!

  • Review 16 (2024-03-21 - Rating: 5)

Wonderful tapas place! lots of food to taste from ham and cheese to sardines and olives. also some nice authentic spanish dishes like patatas rojo or fried cheese balls with a mix of meat/cheese inside (just godlike). couple of open wines to taste and a nice collection of bottled ones. overall awesome place

  • Review 17 (2023-09-12 - Rating: 5)

    1. Try out their cheesecake. It is to die for.2. The best cheese (I tried 6 of them) is the one that has a combination of milks. The other ones are good, this one is just superior.3. The staff is very professional and courteous.Overall solid place for some good quality Spanish food.

  • Review 18 (2023-12-12 - Rating: 4)

A wonderful place for tapas. Delicious and fresh food within a store. A nice experience!

  • Review 19 (2023-12-09 - Rating: 5)

Incredible service, we were unsure of which vinegar to buy so the staff set up a tasting for us to decide. 12/10

  • Review 20 (2023-07-02 - Rating: 4)

Fantastic food just a little bit pricey. The croquettes were fantastic but sooooo expensive. $4.25 for an individual one is nuts. But the Serrano ham one is delicious. The sandwiches were great! I absolutely loved the Despana one. The goat cheese and ham were a perfect match for the bread. We enjoyed a great bottle of wine from next door at the tables. Everything was clean and the service was great.

  • Review 21 (2023-12-12 - Rating: 5)

Authentic and quality Spanish ingredients. You can also get something to eat at the place in a bunch of tables they have: a few tapas and wine. But the strong point is the sort of market with all quality goods from Spain: jamón ibérico, anchoas, bonito, arroz bomba, judión de la granja, fabes, morcillas, chorizos, quesos, almendras marcona, vinagre de jerez, aceite de oliva… the list goes on. Top quality products

  • Review 22 (2021-04-18 - Rating: 5)

Great tapas, amazing wine and even better service

  • Review 23 (2021-12-15 - Rating: 5)

This place is excellent - went for the groceries stayed for the cafe ! The cafe has yummy ready food (croquettes with ibérico were divine !) and so convenient to have a selection of shoppable items as well !

  • Review 24 (2022-11-08 - Rating: 5)

What a lovely place in Soho! We stopped by to have some light lunch and ordered an iberico ham sandwich, a tortilla and a set of croquette samples. They are absolutely delicious! The server brought the dishes to our table and he was super friendly.

  • Review 25 (2023-11-05 - Rating: 5)

I came in Yesterday and was assisted by a gentleman named Ray. He helped me choose right wine. He offered Pingus Riberra del Duero. And it was excellent. They have great choice of food, i tried some cheese and it was really tasty. Felt like real authetic spanish food. Will be back.

  • Review 26 (2022-09-22 - Rating: 5)

Food is delicious, especially their sandwiches. Their octopus is delicious. Friendly staff. Order at register, have a seat, and theyll bring you your food.

  • Review 27 (2022-09-22 - Rating: 4)

Food was great! Didn’t like how the salad came in a togo bowl as I like to dine-in. Large menu but was difficult to understand but even ordering blindly every thing was good! Tons of dried meats and cheeses as well as a fair selection of wine and other culinary items.

  • Review 28 (2017-12-19 - Rating: 4)

Good authentic Spaniard supermarket with a backspace for lunch and dinner

  • Review 29 (2023-12-22 - Rating: 5)

Went by Despaña for what was supposed to be a quick lunch stop, but we ended up having lunch inside to enjoy the lovely ambience. The place is run by people that truly care about their produce, and you can taste it as well. We went for two toasted sandwiches, I really recommend visiting!

  • Review 30 (2017-08-24 - Rating: 5)

The food is amazing. The tapas style portions are great for a quick lunch and the sandwiches are the perfect size. The Vegetariano sandwich is so fresh and delicious, the bread was absolutely to die for. The croquettes were a great size to try more than one if you wanted. Definitely recommend here if youre looking for a quick and tasty lunch.

  • Review 31 (2017-12-24 - Rating: 5)

My go to sandwich shop. Not as great as the tapas joints youll find in Spain, but pretty good for what Ive seen in NYC. Sample sausages by the door are a nice distraction while youre waiting for your order. You will definitely wait for your order.

  • Review 32 (2024-11-20 - Rating: 5)

Love the place i felt like I was in Spain.

  • Review 33 (2017-08-09 - Rating: 5)

By far the best Spanish restaurant you can find in the area. I wide selection of unique, original Spanish tapas, pinxtos and so much more. You can even buy authentic imported Spanish food to take home.

  • Review 34 (2022-12-29 - Rating: 5)

Didn’t eat there, but they have fantastic spanish specialty groceries for anyone trying to cook legit spanish food. Your spot for morcilla, canned octopus, and jamon oberico (at eye-watering import prices)

  • Review 35 (2023-05-24 - Rating: 4)

Such a nice place to the attention is very good, very friendly staff

  • Review 36 (2021-02-05 - Rating: 5)

Excellent selections of Spanish wine. Also saw a few shelves of Italian. When buying wine, the vendor mentioned that a bottle can be opened at their outdoor tables. Pretty neat, huh? The deli next door wasn’t open when I visited. Used to love their little dishes. BYOB, in a sense

  • Review 37 (2020-07-18 - Rating: 5)

Very good Spanish food, it compares very well with food you could have in a typical food place in Spain. The prices are reasonable for Manhattan, and considering that almost everything is imported from Spain. If you like cooking Spanish food, you can also buy some ingredients.

  • Review 38 (2024-09-12 - Rating: 5)

Super authentic food and amazing atmosphere.

  • Review 39 (2021-08-14 - Rating: 5)

My go to place for authentic Spanish ingredients! I had to relocate to Philly last year due to Covid. The only authentic Spanish vendor is a very small booth in Reading Terminal Market. So I ordered $200 in items from Despana shipped to me. Then when I was in NYC this week, I purchased $98 in their Chorizo and Iberico ham. Just stocking up...their staff are so helpful with expert advice. The wine store is next door is great as well!

  • Review 40 (2019-12-09 - Rating: 5)

Best place in the city to get hand sliced Spanish hams!! From Serrano to Iberico they have it! Some great chorizo and lots of Spanish food products. Their sandwiches are amazing as are their cooked items. Highly recommended to any Spanish food lover!!

  • Review 41 (2024-08-24 - Rating: 5)

I love the atmosphere inside. It’s a very low key spot to have a great sandwich.

  • Review 42 (2017-01-27 - Rating: 4)

What a pleasant surprise this place is! As we walked in we thought it was just a grocery store but as I decided to peak in, I was rewarded with a nice little dining room where you can sample all the displayed delicacies at your leisure. Wine and sangria are also available and the olive oil (as much as you want) is top notch. Many of the menu choices are on show but its worth exploring the menu in detail and, of course, the staff can clue you in on the best picks and what people like the most. Wine is a bit expensive ($14 a glass) but they give you a nice amount of it. I loved the blood sausage and the croquets were super tasty. Also very good after the freezing wind outside was the garbanzo and chorizo soup. Highly recommended - the rose sangria!Great choice and would visit again.

  • Review 43 (2016-08-28 - Rating: 5)

Excellent and authentic Spanish creations made fresh, a rich and delicious selection of fresh charcuterie & cheeses as well as pre-packaged items for sale. Fabulous wine selections and our favorite Sangria in NYC! The only drawback is the very small dining space and limited seating. No reservations.

  • Review 44 (2017-02-26 - Rating: 5)

Great selection of pintxos with top notch ingredients. Need to come back to try the sandwiches.

  • Review 45 (2018-03-30 - Rating: 5)

Really good sandwiches and coffee. Love that they serve true Spanish horchata! Seating area is small and gets crowded easily during the lunch hour. Prices are very reasonable.

  • Review 46 (2022-12-05 - Rating: 5)

The croquetas are kinda expensive :( but they’re really good and taste almost the same as the ones from Spain so it’s worth it!! The service it’s good they’re really friendly.

  • Review 47 (2017-11-21 - Rating: 5)

Best place in SoHo and NY to get your typical spanish food. They serve amazing sandwiches, tapas, and cured meats for everyone. You can also buy a wine at the shop next door and enjoy it with your lunch. They have multiple options (not sure about vegeterian) and a small seating place in the back. Its a must try!

  • Review 48 (2019-03-14 - Rating: 5)

Perfect lil trip to Spain every time I am here. Have a daily tapas, glass of wine... definitely plate of their hand-carved jamon serrano de bellota (its 5J)- best you can get.Love this place! I wish I can come every day.

  • Review 49 (2019-04-01 - Rating: 5)

My go-to spot for authentic spanish delicacies. Fresh, packaged and dine in options are all excellent. One of the few places to go to get the traditional spanish food items, great wine store next door too. Dine in options are all very very good.

  • Review 50 (2018-10-10 - Rating: 5)

A delicious Spanish Cafe and Marketplace.Food enjoyed:Croqetas with Iberico HamManchego Cheese plateMorcia bocadilloCharcuterie PlateAlso a great selection of Spanish mineral waters and snacks for purchase. If youre looking for a nice place for lunch on a Sunday afternoon, come on here.Friendly Staff!

  • Review 51 (2020-01-04 - Rating: 4)

Excellent spot to get lunch take-out back to the office or to a bench in Lt. Petrosino Square around the corner. Their food is delicious - I love their Bocadillos and Pintxos.Just one issue: their ventilation isnt very good. After 15 to 20 minutes of waiting in line to order and pay, your clothes will smell of cooking oil and food for the rest of the day.

  • Review 52 (2019-06-18 - Rating: 4)

Bought a bottle of Fabulous Ribera Del Duero red wine from the shop next door who has a very knowledgeable sommelier. Very relaxing rest from the whole day of walking around Chinatown and little Italy. Staff is very friendly and the casual environment makes it a comfortable place to hang out with friends. Food is more tapas style and not really a dinner destination. Recommended.

  • Review 53 (2019-01-14 - Rating: 5)

If youre in the mood for real tapas and Iberian peninsula food products then this is the place since they are the purveyors/distributors of probably all the charcuterie and food products to probably every tapas or Iberian style restaurants in all of New York. The place it self is set up as a market where you can purchase everything from the olive oils, jamons, cheeses and especially prized canned foods such as baby eel etc, while also serving a mix of both cold and hot tapas as a tasting of their products. They also have a wine store next store with the finest selection of Spanish and regional wines of which you can bring over.

  • Review 54 (2019-06-02 - Rating: 5)

The croquetas de iberico, charcuterie and the squid ink paella were delicious. The tortilla and squid was ok. But the vibe in this place gives it 5 stars— it feels small, unpretentious and spanish. They sell delicious cheese, meats, canned fish, and other spanish food/ingredients. You can buy a bottle in their wine shop next door and bring it in for dinner.

  • Review 55 (2022-11-06 - Rating: 5)

Such a wonderful destination for snake and ingredients from Spain. The cafe in the back makes a delicious Tortilla Española (in three flavors) and a array of other small bites that you can eat in or outside.Their jamón offering is broad and wide offering fresh and packaged versions.Yes they have lots of tins but the variety changes based on availability so if you see what you want but lots

  • Review 56 (2024-07-07 - Rating: 5)

I love Despaña. I’ve been coming here for years. This is the best place for a quick, delicious, unfuzzy Spanish snack downtown - as well as Spanish-style cured meats, cheeses, Mediterranean tinned fish & shellfish, oils, etc.. a one-stop shop for deliciousness with prompt & attentive service. Reminds me of Mediterranean and South American del shops. Never miss an opportunity to stop by when I’m in the neighborhood.

  • Review 57 (2015-02-05 - Rating: 5)

Chorizo and Manchego baguette was superb, tasted a few cheeses and sardines, all delicious. Cafe is inviting, sweet flamenco music floats thru the charming high ceiling space , which is highlighted by white subway tiles and repurposed wood and 19th century architectural details. Definitely a great addition to the neighborhood .

  • Review 58 (2017-07-19 - Rating: 5)

Great sandwiches. Great vibe. And they have Vichy Catalan 😍

  • Review 59 (2016-07-30 - Rating: 4)

I came home from Spain craving some Iberico Jamon and found this place!!! They have a ton of other great tapas as well as great Spanish beer! I will keep coming back! You can also shop to take many things home with you.

  • Review 60 (2024-07-18 - Rating: 5)

Highly recommended. The patatas riojanas brought tears to my eyes. The cheesecake is to die for. Cant wait to try more things.

  • Review 61 (2021-12-31 - Rating: 5)

Excellent sandwiches! Especially the Picante. Order from the friendly folks at the back counter. They have inside seating around the corner in the far back, and also an outside dining parklet.

  • Review 62 (2018-09-01 - Rating: 5)

Whats to say? Acorn fed Iberian hogs, silky results. Expertly shaved melt in the mouth ham. Excellent Spanish foods not from the pig- if you must.

  • Review 63 (2018-08-23 - Rating: 5)

My sort of cafe/pub love the vibe can get the best chocolate in the world. coffee is awesome and you can get good Hamong and olive oil

  • Review 64 (2024-04-27 - Rating: 4)

The prices are very high! and its not a big deal! Even so, what I ate was very good.

  • Review 65 (2019-01-05 - Rating: 4)

Decent selection of tapas and Spanish treats, meats, cheeses, and beverages. Prices aren’t bad unless you’re comparing them to Spain’s prices... but it’s typical for New York. Service is fine, selection is limited but will bring you joy if you miss some of your Spanish brands. Lots of Spaniard expats here enjoying a bit of home when we were there (rainy Saturday afternoon). The papas bravas picantes, and the chocolate a la taza were yummy. Nice spot to sit in the back.

  • Review 66 (2022-05-01 - Rating: 5)

Best place to find Spanish cooking supplies and foods in the city, plus a variety of sandwiches and tapas. Indoor and outdoor seating. Super knowledgeable staff. Occasional special events like paella days.

  • Review 67 (2018-04-04 - Rating: 5)

Fantastic chorizo and morcilla. The bocadillos (sandwiches) are a bit expensive and not overstuffed, but the quality is excellent and they are packed with flavor. Prepare to WAIT AND WAIT AND WAIT BECAUSE THEY ARE SLOOOOOOOOOOOOW.

  • Review 68 (2015-11-16 - Rating: 4)

Authentic taste of good Spanish meats, olives, oils, and cheeses. The sandwiches are simple, but the quality of the ingredients is what makes them special.

  • Review 69 (2019-08-24 - Rating: 4)

What a delicious experience! Its small and it can be hard to miss with its own wine shop next door but this little grocery store/cafe is a perfect escape from New York . The Bocadillos were great, jamon fantastic, excellent chorizo and Ill definitely be back to try the pinxtos. Space is a little limited but that adds to the charm and you can buy pretty much all the things you eat on the menu to take home in the grocery store. My Spanish mate who came along with me said it met the standard. Knocking off a star or a half star if I could be Use the shrimp on the paella were a little over cooked.

  • Review 70 (2016-07-16 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 85 (2021-05-09 - Rating: 5)

Ordered a sliced meat platter from Despaña for a birthday dinner. It was beautifully presented, generously sized (enough for at least 10 people), promptly delivered. Also enjoyed their croquetas, chorizo, and morcilla.

  • Review 86 (2018-10-08 - Rating: 5)

Special wine and food store from Spain with good selection of products. I try this garnacha “Obsessio Garnatxa” from Montsant winery in a natural park, ecological and Biodinamic Celler , greedy and with ripe and elegant tannins, profoundly balsamic with liquorice, resin and underbrush, with red fruit dominant flavor and a fresh and long end note.

  • Review 87 (2017-05-16 - Rating: 5)

They had a huge selection of products from Spain, as well as delicious, delicious food you can order. I love this place!

  • Review 88 (2018-11-19 - Rating: 4)

Pretty good food, but its a deli with space to eat, not a restaurant.. Note that its BYOB, a.k.a. buy a bottle from the place next door, and enjoy it with your food here. ALSO, at Socorrat, paella is $28 per person, and I think this paella (just as delicious) was probably that much for two. Great value if youre in it for just the food!

  • Review 89 (2017-04-05 - Rating: 4)

  • Review 91 (2017-02-06 - Rating: 4)

Great place with great food. A bit expensive (and I know why it is, but I still think they went a bit too far up marking their prices). Love their food though.

  • Review 100 (2017-09-26 - Rating: 5)

Such a treat to enjoy delicious, authentic tapas in this atmospheric mini-market and counter surface restaurant. Gazpacho was very good. I wanted to order every tapa--several types of tortilla Española and flautas, among others. Doubles as a market with generous selection of charcuterie, cheeses, and other jars and bottles of various gastronomic Spanish specialties (Marcona almonds, boquerones, pickled peppers, oils and vinegars, etc). Even a few non-food selections (Espadrilles!).Stopped in for a quick bite while shopping in SoHo / Little Italy. Service very friendly, interior nicely designed with white ceramic tile, several large marble tables for enjoying tapas, and Spanish cookbooks with samples for reading while eating. I wish Despaña would open a location in Atlanta.

A gift that sparked joy: Thats how a designer/poet/editor/foodie friend described the Spanish Fiesta Gift Box I sent. Even before she dug into the delicious food, she was delighted by the careful packaging and beautiful presentation. The quality of the products and the variety of flavors are an enormous treat, yielding fast and easy weeknight dinners, and intriguing snacks when family and friends drop in. The cuisine of Spain has come alive for her--and made life a little easier--thanks to this gift box.

  • Review 135 (2019-06-15 - Rating: 5)

The place is great, you can eat there as well as buy Spanish traditional food. It is a little expensive for Spanish food but knowing that we are in New York it is quite reasonable. And as for how it tastes, I must admit it is just amazing and my standards are pretty high being Spanish. I will recommend it to whom ever is looking for some Spanish food to buy

Yes! Excellent spot to grab some legit Spanish food. A whole mess of tapas and other goodies at reasonable (for Manhattan) prices. You can also get fancy with the jamon or grab some preserved delicacies. My favorite part is the wine shop next door. Grab a bottle of your favorite Spanish wine and have it with food in the cafe for no corkage. Truly an excellent value in a city that can bring your bank account to its knees in an evening.

  • Review 148 (2018-12-06 - Rating: 5)

Changing up your lunch order usually means adding some greens to your rice bowl. Planning anything more adventurous would infringe on the time you usually devote to finding out which Parks And Rec character you are, so we did the work for you. Go to Despaña - a tapas bar in Soho with a giant menu. We like the chorizo cooked in apple cider and thin slices of octopus over mashed potatoes, but the best part of this traditional tapas spot is asking for samples of Spanish cheeses and cured meats while you wait for your meal.

  • Review 149 (2019-08-21 - Rating: 4)

I like to go to Despana. I am some one of a Romantic person. I find the cheese selection very authentic. I took one star because the prices in some items have increased. Check the back little tapas counter. Next door the wines are also worth to explore.

  • Review 150 (2017-03-12 - Rating: 5)

Wow, this place is a hidden treasure! My coworker recommended this place so I ordered traditional Tortilla Bocadillo ($8.50), a sandwich with potato omelet inside. The portion is huge so I couldnt finish in one setting, and the bread had authentic homemade sourdough taste and texture. It was simply heaven. This place also sells homemade sausages, bread and olive oil and everything looked so delicious in the store/deli. Ill definitely come back when I have enough time for lunch break!

  • Review 151 (2019-08-27 - Rating: 5)

I had a Despana sandwich here and gazpacho and it was amazing. Love this little corner. Google does not even list it when you type food near me I had to do manual search on the map. It is definitely worth stopping by.

  • Review 154 (2017-10-29 - Rating: 5)

I went there for a 2 hour wine tasting special event. Wines from the northern part of Spain were presented. We were informed about the region, the grapes, soil, vineyard, pictures etc. There were 4 red and 2 white. Tapas were also included. The presenter lives in Spain, is in the wine industry and is the daughter of a former Napa Valley vineyard owner.

  • Review 158 (2020-03-07 - Rating: 5)

A place to buy authentic Spanish food products.. and to eat authentic tapas / pintxos! A wide variety of small plates, and wines by the glass, that you can eat in the casual seating area. The prices are on the expensive side but thats par for the course for the neighborhood and honestly, its worth it.

A small gem of a marketplace. The tapas are fantastic and the Spanish selection of cheese, meat, and goods are amazing! Highly recommend stopping by for a bite to eat and to get ingredients for your next paella or other Spanish-inspired dish.

  • Review 176 (2019-02-09 - Rating: 4)

Good quality ingredients. Not much to complain about, but didnt blow my mind.

  • Review 177 (2018-12-17 - Rating: 5)

Spanish wines are typically poorly represented in neighborhood wine stores. Go to Despaña for knowledgeable staff and big selection.

  • Review 178 (2020-03-25 - Rating: 5)

So you had life changing pizza at Piacerea and your thinking how am I going to beat that? You cant beat it, but you can rival it, Despaña is a Spanish food distributor that started in Queens. They make dynamite Chorizo by the way, and sell all types pf specialty Jamon an other great Spanish specialties they import. So of course, open a restaurant and serve off the hook tapas, its only natural. You need to get here. Its casual, they sell a lot of to go but you can order some tapas and sit and eat, and eat, and eat... Despaña, love ya!

  • Review 179 (2018-03-29 - Rating: 5)

What a cool, chill place to grab a deelish lunch and some tapas to take home. This is a super cute market & cafe and we took advantage of bot. For lunch we had patatas bravas, pintxos w/iberico ham (drool), a veggie bocadilla (pressed), and croquettas. Everything was excellent, and we enjoyed a nice albarino with it. The folks are really friendy and the food came out quickly. We LOVE this place. The market is small but well stocked with top quality spanish cheeses, meats, olive oil, olives, etc etc. Go! Bonus - there is a great spanish wine shop next door too!

  • Review 186 (2019-10-19 - Rating: 5)

Awesome Spanish import shop and cafe.

  • Review 187 (2018-02-24 - Rating: 5)

On my first visit Despaña certainly deserves a high rating. I arrived about 6 pm on a Friday and about half the seats were taken. The counter service was helpful and friendly, even offering a taste of any/all the wines by the glass (only 4) which of course are all Spanish wines. You can also purchase any bottle next door at their wine store to consume in here. The tapas were really good. Certainly on par with what Ive had in Spain. Its a broader selection than is typical in Spain for any one tapas bar but welcomed for its diversity. I liked the Morcilla salchica/sausage and so did my 5 year old son who isnt always an adventurous eater.
