Schilling serves amazing Austrian food. First time having Austrian food and I loved it! I ordered something like their fried chicken with a salad (Weiner Schnitzel) and brussel sprouts, absolutely mouth watering!! They had an Austrian beer called a Stiegl which goes down well with the food.I do however have to critique the server as she was gone for an extended period of time for the drinks, food took extremely long to come out, and when needed an item it was difficult to get her attention. I will say however I do not mind that the food took long to come out cause everything did taste absolutely fresh!! -

We were looking for a different place to have lunch near the hotel we were staying. Very cozy atmosphere. We have tried the trout dip and the salmon, both delicious!! At the end we have the apple strudel, so yummy! Next time we would like to have The Schnitzel plate. We do not recommend to sit in the middle row if you want to enjoy more your time there 😘 -

Came here for lunch on a Monday (around 1pm) and was able to walk in without needing reservation. We got the schnitzel (tried pork and chicken) and also the apple schtrudel, they were all delicious! The schnitzels also came with 3 sides, so it was a good amount of food even if you are very hungry. I also loved the vibe of this space. I will definitely be back for dinner! -

Very nice and cozy restaurant! The food was delicious, I thought that the schnitzel was just as good as any Ive had in Germany or Austria. -

Restaurant week brought me in and I’m so incredibly thrilled to have found this spot ! Love the banquet style table set up . The burger was out of this world and cooked perfectly . Also had some of the best service I’ve had in ages . The waiter was fantastic and his back up helper was also very friendly and attentive . You feel like you are in an old country farmhouse . Except it’s clean ; ) I’d make a reservation because even during lunch it’s busy , once you go you’ll understand why ! -

Wonderful location! Absolutely underrated on Google! The veal schnitzel was incredibly tasty! The dessert (apple strudel) as well. The service was great and the location deserves a very good rating. On our next visit we will definitely come back again. -

Came here for the restaurant week dinner. Loved the space and decor. I ordered the sweet corn bisque, spatzle, and apple strudel. The corn bisque is NOT vegetarian fyi. I asked the waitress what was the “speck succotash” which she didn’t appear to understand so I asked if it was a vegetable or meat and she replied that it’s vegetarian, so I was like ok cool. Turns out it’s bacon and the soup had SO MUCH of it. I didn’t say anything and just picked it out but that was a bummer especially because I asked specifically what it was. The spatzle was good but had way too many crispy onions on top. Not sure if that’s normal but I couldn’t eat most of it. Overall the food was still good but wish my waitress spoke/understood English better!! -

This place serves Austria/German dishes and drinks. It gives you the vibe of European culture. The venue itself has retro industrial decor with exposed red brick wall and metal pipes.Friendly staff and service was fast.Food was delicious, little pricey thoughWord to management, PLEASE fix the front door, its so loud when it closes with a loud bang which interruptes the customer conversation. -
Review 9 (2023-01-14 - Rating: 5)
Nice rustic decor. Excellent service. All food was tasty, high-quality dishes, and down to the fresh herbs and salad, sides, and even homemade ketchup and aioli. Burger and smoked trout were favorites. Beautifully made cocktails were ok but will stick to wine next time. -
Review 10 (2024-01-28 - Rating: 5)
Came here twice in two weeks, both for work dinners. I love the ambience, its so homey. Service is also very attentive. Had schnitzel first time then burger. Schnitzel was good but made me realize I dont think I have the palette for Austrian good. Switched to burger the second time and it was a winner. Also, Brussel sprouts. Get them. Trust me -
Review 11 (2020-10-29 - Rating: 4)
Good food, rustic decor and good service. The arctic char consistently has a nice crispy skin and not over cooked.Schnitzel is one of their staples with a good combination of accoutrements. Those comprise the favorites. Others are well cooked, with the spaetzle being hit or miss. Some dishes have changed over the years. Overall a good choice in fidi.Update: Still a good spot in fidi, they take covid precautions with temp and tracing. Schnitzel still solid! -

Best meal of our NYC trip. I don’t like soup, but the soup we had here was amazing. I’d definitely order again. Everything we got here was perfect. -
Review 13 (2024-06-11 - Rating: 5)
The place is quite under the radar, given it seems to be even missing proper signage. The pork schnitzel was well executed and makes for an excellent lunch with an Austrian beer. Handing out an extra star so that it gets more love. Will be back for their Apple strudel. -
Review 14 (2022-07-20 - Rating: 5)
Great find in this area. A welcoming and authentic enclave with good vibes and surrounded by friendly staff.Food was served pretty quickly and it was fresh, flavourful and a good texture of taste. The portions are very generous too. -
Review 15 (2021-10-22 - Rating: 5)
Nice ambiance, cute restaurant. Amazing food. Got a trout Tartare and weiner schnitzel, the pork one, and it was to die for. I would definitely recommend, especially if you’re in FiDi. Gotta come back asap! -

Just really delicious food. Having eaten in many three star Michelin restaurants in different countries, I feel like I have something to compare to.We came in on a late afternoon and had a lovely time. Really cute decor inside, welcoming and cozy.Would recommend and come back! -

Review 18 (2024-10-11 - Rating: 5)
What a gem of a spot.. Robert f Wagner park was closed so we detoured to find a beer and a burger and found Schilling. By far best meal and service we had in New York during our visit. -
Review 19 (2024-11-19 - Rating: 4)
Coming here was like going to a first date with low expectations and being pleasantly surprised by how....good....everything turns out to be.First, could this spot be any cuter? The cuteness is all the more noticeable because this restaurant is in a forgettable, nondescript slice of FiDi. Blink and youll miss it.Second, the food delivered. Both our Heirloom Tomatoes (farm fresh with huge portions and tasty homemade dressing) and the Spätzle (creamy and comforting) were scrumptious. Having just visited Germany again earlier this year, I was craving some good Deutsch carbs, and I loved what Schilling did. Then, theres the Happy Hour wine, which at $8/glass is too good a deal to pass up in these inflationary times. Esp. when the wines on offer come from the German-speaking parts of the world. Will definitely be back when Im stuck in this boring part of Manhattan. -

Review 21 (2017-12-29 - Rating: 4)
Restaurant was almost empty when we arrived around half past seven. We got our seats quickly. Waitress came right away for menus and told todays specials. Menu had not so many varieties, so not that challenge which comes with many page menus. We had four person dining and two of us took small dishes and two large dishes. Also we took one side from vegetable list.Small dishes you can share for two as well as vegetables. We had shrimp ajillo, broccoli salad, wiener schnitzel, Shilling burger and Brussels sprouts. Shrimps were basic stuff where ajillo was delicious. Broccoli salad and Brussels sprouts were fantastics and really good. Burger was basic, ketchup for fries had hint of curry that gave a little exotic flavor to that. Schnitzel was fine although I expected more potato salad. Lingonberry jam lifted schnitzel rate up.The restaurant was really cold. People were sitting more inside than near windows because temperature near windows were freezing. Even more inside women wore shawls. Temperature outside was around 12f and it was really windy.Even the temperature we liked this place. It was nice and small, food was good and service nice and neat. -

Most amazing food with excellent service, India took great care of me. 10/10 would recommend. -
Review 23 (2017-12-20 - Rating: 5)
Consistently good. Great service. Nothing is bad here. Even the brussel sprouts are amazing. The flavors that are combined are unique. -
Review 24 (2023-12-09 - Rating: 5)
Came here for lunch during the week just before the holidays. Place is on the smaller side and can fill up quick, would definitely recommend a reservation, especially if youre a larger party. Atmosphere is very rustic, but that was something I really loved, felt very homey. Staff was kind and very helpful when it came to offering suggestions. The menu isnt extensive, but what they do offer is delicious and portions are generous. We split the Wiener Schnitzel (chicken), which comes with sides of lingon berry jelly, cucumber salad and potato salad, and the Spatzle. All of it was incredibly delicious, but honestly the small side of potato salad might have been my favorite bite, not like your traditional mayo based American potato salad at all. The Spatzle I can best describe as the best adult Mac and cheese, you dont notice the veggies much but they provide great added texture. Certainly would love to come back and indulge in more of this places great eats. -

Review 26 (2023-08-01 - Rating: 4)
Nice spot, welcome atmosphere and staff. I’m on the quest for the best schnitzel in nyc and so far I’ve yet to find it. Their was solid - 7/10 but the breading was falling off by the time it got to me and was somewhat cold. The meat itself was good and flavored nicely. Sides weee great. -
Review 27 (2021-12-02 - Rating: 5)
What a nice gem. It was a slow night, service was prompt and attentive.I ordered the schnitzel sandwich and it was fantastic. The schnitzel portion was smaller than pretty much every German restaurant Ive ever been to, but it was still a very filling meal. Probably a testament to the organic meat used, but its something to consider if youre used to schnitzels the size of a plate.Of note, the tomato/ketchup chutney (not sure what it is exactly, cant locate it on the menu) is 10/10. I would totally buy that in bulk to serve with fries and tots at home. Delicious. -
Review 28 (2022-12-28 - Rating: 5)
Nothing short of AMAZING! So comfy and cozy! Loved the communal dining atmosphere. Couple that with food that hugs your soul for the perfect dining experience. I would go back any day of the week for any item on the menu. I left speechless, happy with a full belly and a happy soul. -
Review 29 (2021-05-28 - Rating: 5)
The wait staff was attentive and pleasant. The food was the highlight! From the appetizer to main course to dessert, every morsel of food they brought out was delightful! They do amazing things with asparagus and the Austrian dishes made you feel like you were there. We highly recommend! -

Review 31 (2023-11-17 - Rating: 5)
Fun spot in FiDi with very good vibes. I showed up at 6 on a Thursday and was seated immediately. Our hostess (was also working the bar) was extremely nice and was very helpful with the menu. I had the pork schnitzel and it was good. The breading didn’t really stick too well but it was still good! -
Review 32 (2023-12-03 - Rating: 4)
Excellent menu that changes seasonally, great tasting Austrian fare with a twist. We were there for an 8pm reservation for 3 on a Thursday evening. The place was bustling, so it took about 10+ minutes to get seated. The service staff was wonderful and even the chef was clearing out tables. The ambiance was great; A couple of blocks down from the 9/11 memorial and the Oculus, Schilling is housed in what seems like a carriage house of 1920s NYC, with interesting industrial touches and curious decor. Theres outdoor enclosed plus sidewalk tables plus the street wall is actually a large glass garage door that was closed for the cold. Looking forward to returning when in FiDi. -

What a lovely dining experience! My friend and I went to Schilling on a rainy and cold night to catch up. Inside was cozy, warm, and inviting. Service was amazing and friendly, and server was very knowledgeable. Food was to die for and hit the spot. They were also great with my allergies. Cant wait to go back! -

For schnitzelThank you @schillingnyc for having me and @new_york_noms! The food was absolutely amazing, and this reel is just part one of what we tried. They were so generous in bringing out so much more food than we asked for me. I expected the Michelin stared chef @chefeduardfrauneder ‘s food to be great but it blew our minds, especially the tomato starters. We had•Fried Green Tomatoes - fried like schnitzel with Comeback sauce•Cherry and Sungold Tomatoes - in Espelette Pepper jus with onion relish and a lovage and celery salad•Heirloom Tomatoes - with tomato seed oil, farmers cheese, croutons, cucumbers, and Thai basil cucumber vinaigrette•Organic Chicken Weiner Schnitzel - with cucumber salad, potato salad, and Lingonberry•Viennese Chicken Sandwich - organic chicken schnitzel with house made cucumber salad and pickles, on a brioche bun with fries•Tuna Schnitzel - with grilled peaches, mango chutney, and capers•Jimadors Breakfast - cucumber, tequila, black pepper, oleum saccharum, tomolives•Garden Of Eden - vodka, lemon, elderflower, apple juice, cucumber•Smoke and Fire - mezcal, pineapple rum, lemon, agave, kummel liquor, habanero•Pirate Smash - white rum, dark rum, basil, pineapple cordial, cybarSugar, how’d you get so fly?We lifted and shifted these desserts after the amazing dinner we had at @schillingnyc !@new_york_noms and I spent about 3 hours at Schilling eating all of the deliciousness they put in front of us and this was how we finished the meal! See my previous reel for the amazing tomato appetizers, drinks, and schnitzel dinners we had.For dessert, we had chocolate molten cake, cheesecake blintze, and traditional Austrian apple strudel. Unsurprisingly, the chocolate cake was my favorite but I have to give credit to the apple strudel too - I don’t love fruit in my dessert but we still devoured this one too! Thanks again for the amazing hospitality and generous amount of delicious food! -
Review 37 (2023-07-06 - Rating: 5)
Jawohl! What a fantastic find! This little place might be my new favorite German/Austrian spot in NYC! A cozy nook near Wall St, its more upscale and less traditional than your typical schnitzel eatery. Instead, this place shines when it comes to the menu. While limited, it lists the standard Wienerschnitzel and a veggie Spätzle, as well as many other non-traditional Austrian options, including a lot of vegetarian-friendly dishes. Everything was fantastisch. The schnitzel (I got the chicken) was fried to perfection and the Green Tomatoes were spectacular, along with all of the (cucumber salad and potato salad) sides, which were great variations on the theme. They were very accommodating and helpful in ordering and the service was super friendly throughout our meal. I was stuffed after the main course (the schnitzel is huge!) but it was so delicious that I couldnt say no to dessert. They had Apfel- (apples) and Topfen- (cheese) streudel so I opted for the cheese. It was, kein Witz, the *best* streudel Ive ever had. Seriously. With a side of ice cream and Sahne, on a plate of vanilla cream, and topped with strawberries, I involuntarily smiled with every bite. GET DESSERT. My only regret is that Ive only just discovered this Austrian gem after living in NYC for so long. Well definitely be planning some return visits, even if just for some small bites. Hope to see you there! Guten Appetit! -

Review 40 (2022-02-18 - Rating: 5)
This was our second time going here and it lived up to the memory of the first. This was from their Valentine’s Day pre fixed menu so can’t say if these will be on the regular menu but still stand as a testament to the quality of their food and the attention to detail of every single thing they serve you. The shrimp appetizer was more in line with ceviche, it was excellent; must get it if it’s on the menu. Sea bass and steak entree were good, portions could’ve been a bit bigger. The restaurant is a very small space which makes it that much more impressive what they’ve done with it. Unfortunately don’t have a picture but very creative. -
Review 41 (2023-08-09 - Rating: 5)
Very friendly conditions. Super good food. Beautiful ambience very recommendable -
Review 42 (2022-02-13 - Rating: 4)
Overall good food, great service, nice presentation, have vegan options, decent portions and prices but the restaurant is quite packed and you will likely feel/get nudged by fellow guests. We had frittatensuppe (noodle soup with blue oyster mushrooms, great flavor and taste), chicken liver mousse (with the most amazing apple, toast and some jam, everything paired amazingly well) for appetizers. The apple strudel was also very good and came with a sweet cream and ice cream. The main highlight of schnitzel was a disappointment. Flat breaded and fried meats have a lot of flavoring potential due to high surface area to volume but both the pork and chicken schnitzel we had didnt have much flavor. Good texture but it was something we werent quite happy about. -

Food excellent. Shared with wife chicken liver spread and then wiener schnitzel. Both enough food for us to share. Delicious!Had 4 wheat beers between us. Good buzz. Before tip $76 for lunch.Very cold on winter day so get far away from door and take extra sweater. -

They’re open !! Yay! If you are craving Austrian cuisine then I highly recommend this place. The place is charming. Staff is friendly. The food is deliiiiiicious! I suggest you start with the Burrata and for the main you have to have the Weiner Schnitzel and the Grill Branzino. They’re know for their Schnitzels so you have to try them. Check this place out! It’s close to the 1,R,W and 4,5 trains do very close to most subways. This is also a few blocks away from the WTC. -
Review 46 (2024-07-23 - Rating: 5)
Loved this spot! Was not too busy when I was there, but certainly not empty either. Friendly staff in a cozy, clean space.Happened to be restaurant week so I had a 3 course tasting menu that rocked. Very good burger with delicious crispy fries and house-made sauces. The heirloom tomato salad was absolutely awesome, but the apple strudel was a complete standout - would walk from midtown or farther for that again. -

The risotto and broccoli salad were amazing. As a solo business traveler, I appreciate good food and fast, attentive service. This place had it all. Its more of a date place (each table has a rose on it), but Im a shameless business traveler looking for quality food. I got what I was looking for. -

Small, cozy, funky and rustic decorated place, but WHAT A TREAT and such a wonderful addition to our NY must visit restaurants list!!!!!!!The food is VERY tasty and creative, the service is nice, very pleasant and efficient, and very professional. The best part is the value. Everything priced very reasonable, particularly for NY.We are very glad weve found this place and are sure well visit it every time we are in the city. Meanwhile we hope the lucky ones who live in the area around will keep them really busy. -

I can not say enough positive things about this restaurant, and more importantly, the Owner and Chef Eduard EdiFrauneder. The pheonominal food is just the tip of the iceberg. Ive had the opportunity to work with him personally, and he is also an extremely genuine & inspiring person who deserves all the success in the world. Its been an absolute pleasure. If you are searching for an amazing restaurant, chef, or caterer, I have no doubt that you will be blown away! -

One of the best neighborhood gems in Manhattan. Wonderful urban lux space that provide the perfect balance of energy and intimacy. Perfect for a romantic winter evening with stylish lighting or a summers day with the open air flow to the street. Food is remarkably consistent and delicious!Deserving of being Michelin guide rated. Menu is diverse and changes often, so worthy of constant exploration. Staff warm and friendly. -

Delicious, light wiener schnitzel, spaetzle dish was too complex, not al dente. Tiny apple strudel was bitter though crust was crispy. Decent food. Would come back again. Noise level was high. -

Delicious, modern takes on Austrian classics. Their menu has classics like Spaetzle and Strudel, but everything has a modern flair while still offering filling portions. We loved the Spaetzle and Rib Eye, both flavorful and cooked to perfection. The crispy cauliflower was also perfectly cooked and a nice alternative to say a roast brussel sprout (also on the menu and amazing-looking, though we didnt have it). Drinks menu was inventive and well executed as well. Try the milk punch or the the drink with the woke whiskey (name is escaping me ;-). -

Review 64 (2020-01-17 - Rating: 4)
The food was good but it didnt have much options when it comes to eating. The menu comes with a large drinking list so you can pair you meal with something but it was more of a fancy off beat German restaurant than anything else. -

I decided to walk into Schilling at the last minute after a rough day last night. I ordered a glass of wine after I found out that they weren’t serving food anymore because it was late. When I was ready to leave, I requested my check, but the waiter told me that I was good to go because the glass of wine was on the house. It brought tears to my eyes. What a kind, emotionally intelligent human! Thank you for that kind gesture after a day of hardship! -

We had the most wonderful pick-up order from Schilling last night! We had a reservation to dine in but I’m 9 months pregnant and was too tired to go out last minute so my husband called them and ordered pick-up. The staff at Schilling were so kind and left us a note and free dessert in the bag for me! The food was delicious and we’re definitely planning to go back as soon as we can. -

I generally look for 3 things in the places I frequent:Service - the service is nicely done. We were a large group, which they were able to accommodate well. The hostess had a very pleasant disposition.Offering - the food is tasty and consistent. The schnitzel is not very heavy. The grilled octopus and pork belly is delicious.Atmosphere - it was very easy to carry on a conversation. It was pleasant smelling. The temperature was also nice even though it was snowing outside. Definitely appreciate the heat curtain on the door.I hope you found this review helpful. -

Review 106 (2023-08-03 - Rating: 4)
I didnt give this place a full 5 stars, even though it is deserving of it, because there is a lot of construction right next door & it was a bit fishy smelling at the doorway. That aside, I mean it is NYC & there is construction virtually everywhere, the place is really cute & the food is SO tasty! We took advantage of the restaurant week lunch special, an entree & dessert for $30 (FYI-gratuity is automatically added to the bill). I had the pork schnitzel & my friend had the chicken schnitzel: both were lightly breaded & fried to perfection, not a heavy, oily fry at all, and it was a substantial portion. The sides were all very good too. The chocolate lava cake with chocolate ice cream was delicious! There were some other items on their regular menu I would definitely go back to try. -

The food was mostly good. The staff was friendly but very slow. We waited 30 minutes for a beer and a glass of wine, with additional delays throughout. Our desserts had ice cream on the side that was 75% melted when it arrived at our table. If they could improve their process this would be a great spot. -

Review 146 (2022-09-12 - Rating: 5)
Walking in you would never expect the food here to be executed on such a high level, but the kitchen is absolutely killing it. Iove how focused the menu is, it allows for the attention to detail that really makes Schilling a gem. Excellent selection of cocktails, beer, and wines. Also similarly focused. Staff was lovely. Ambiance is hip but relaxed and informal. The killer funk playlist was the cherry on top. Highly recommended. -

Austrian restaurant intribeca. I wanted to give 3 and half stars , not impressed honestly.but since Food is excellent and service also gracious ,and moreover the ambience is spotless. It seems like my friend enjoyed it .They handed us only a thin paper menu for drinks , and no food menu. If you have no smart phone, then you are out of luck. also the food items are so limited. maybe Only me who is so picky. -

Came here and absolutely loved the food and service. We had the sea bass, soup, cauliflower and vegetable stew. The waitress spent lots of time explaining the different options. The food was seasoned perfectly, not salty or greasy. Happy we came here. We enjoyed the food and our time.Accessibility: There are 2 steps at the entrance of the restaurant, so unsure if someone with a wheelchair would be able to enter without being physically lifted. -

Austrian inspired food, came for the restaurant week but decided to just eat of the normal menu (skipped the desert). The spaetzle was great - a pretty big portion size too. Coffee was also excellent if you need it. My only complaint was we sat outside and the table legit felt it was going to tip over if we put our weight on it. Lead to some delicate eating haha -

The perfect mix of intimate ambiance and lively atmosphere, Schillings provided us with the most exceptional night cap! We started our evening with the cauliflower and brussel sprout appetizers, unusual flavors that mixed together wonderfully and prepared us for expertly crafted mixed drinks from their very own Saša (pronounced Sasha)! He happily answered all our questions and was attentive to all our needs and requests. Outstanding, exceptional, and our newest staple for every future visit to the city. I may be from out of town but I was treated like a regular at Schillings! -

Their wiener schinizel is legit. -
Review 168 (2017-12-19 - Rating: 4)
The food could use a bit more flavor - the schnitzel had a wonderful seasoning on its breading but needed more of it, the bread had a wonderful seasoning, the potato salad was light but bland. Some things were blatantly over-priced, such as the $4 cokes (no refills). However, the service and wait staff were spot on - perfect! The food was 3 stars but the service was 5. -
Review 169 (2019-05-19 - Rating: 4)
Great little restaurant. But on a Friday at lunch it was packed and they only had one server. So we waited a long time for our food and had very spotty service. Also, its VERY loud, so not great for business meetings or intimate conversation. But the food is excellent, so its worth a visit. -
Review 170 (2017-08-27 - Rating: 4)
We had a group of 10 and most everyone was pleased with the food. My schnitzel was a bit dry (which was not the case for the others in the group) but was seasoned well. The accompanying cucumber salad was quite tasty :-) The service was mixed... there seemed to be a bit of disorganization (but in their defense, we were a group of 10 who did not all arrive at the same time), there werent enough menus, and there seemed to be a bit of a mix-up when the food was delivered - but on the other hand, they were very friendly and apologetic, even giving us a bottle of wine. I hope that others find that the experience improves, as it was quite an interesting spot and the staff was friendly and courteous. -

Review 174 (2018-01-25 - Rating: 4)
I love this restaurant. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because of the spaetzle - it is not as good as I had in Austria. This is an Austrian restaurant. the food and wine is Austrian. The food is very good, they have a lot of non-meat options, the ambiance is on the romantic-industrial side, and it is quite intimate. Easily one of my favorite restaurants in the Financial District.
