Really cool space and excellent unique and delicious cocktails. Bartenders were fun, professional, and charismatic. If you can find it and get in, do it. -
Review 2 (2023-08-01 - Rating: 5)
We came here during the grand opening and had a super long wait. Hopefully the waitlist structure and policies has been improved since then. The food here is close to authentic, but a little pricey with the portions you’ll get. Same as the drinks, very small with the price. However, the drinks menu is very thoughtful and creative, and they’re all inspired by classic Chinese songs. We tried most of everything on the menu, and my personal favorite is Sweet Guilty Pleasure. If the wait isn’t that long, I will highly recommend my friends to come at least once to try their drinks. It’s a really nice neighborhood bar with special theme. -

Very fun speakeasy! The food is great so definitely try those. Just a little cramped but it’s fine if you’re not staying long. We walked in and had a half hour wait, so we just went to the next door and to kill time. -
Review 4 (2024-04-20 - Rating: 5)
Had such a fun time! The space is so cozy and intimate. The drinks were soooo yummy, will definitely be back again in the future :)Were seated about a roughly 25 min wait at 9pm on a Friday night -- once seated we had a 90 minute window to enjoy the spot! -
Review 5 (2023-06-14 - Rating: 5)
My final rate is based on 929’s cocktail menu but not food. I REALLY RECOMMEND❤️🔥 (background: I hate the taste of alcohol so I’m always look for cocktails that are smooth to drink.)The menu was so cute since it was based on the names of Mandarin songs..! Definitely going back to try other items!🌃Food review at the end.🍹Familiar Stranger was a hit! My brave friend took a try and it was amazing! Everything goes so well together with the smell of basil and sesame oil.🧉Breeze was a safe sweet-and-sour choice. It tasted like sweet lemonade with rich fruit tastes.🍸Last Emperor was a strong one, alcohol taste stood out more. (Although my friend said less😂.) This is the one to try Kaoliang, a kind of based liquor that is common in Taiwan. For the food, we had braised beef shank and fried little buns. Agree with some reviews here, portions were small and prices were high. Beef shank was tasty though. -

By far one of my favorite spots in LIC. The drinks are delicious and the service has always been great. The only small thing that is slightly off-putting is how close the tables are to each other, so while youre having your conversations you are hearing the people next to you. No biggie but something to be aware of if you are coming for the first time. Every time we have friends come in town we take them here! -
Review 7 (2023-11-05 - Rating: 4)
The atmosphere and the vibes of this place was stellar. I really like the theme they were going for. Service was amazing. The drinks were okay they were creative however i think for the price we should have a little more. Bar food was also great! -
Review 8 (2023-05-28 - Rating: 5)
Wasn’t expecting much before getting there but I ended up loving it. The drinks are delicious and super unique. The soy milk + soy sauce foam is out of this world (the drink is smokey so make sure you like that). We got there pretty late so we only has the sweet potato fries that turned out to be super flavorful and a great snack. The music is fun and they have a cool collection that you can check out and select albums to play. The staff is also very kind. They messed up our order (gave out fries to the wrong table) but immediately gave us a free drink. The only thing is that if you come here on a weekend, there is a line which isn’t the best so hopefully they’ll take reservations at some point. -
Review 9 (2024-05-25 - Rating: 5)
Best beef noodle I have ever had in East Coast. It’s classic Taiwanese taste. It’s really good and soft for the beef. Should try it if you don’t have before. -
Review 10 (2023-06-24 - Rating: 5)
Very cool speakeasy that offers some delicious drinks and fun small bites. We waited for about an hour (hoped to another bar) but would definitely recommend making reservations. Once we got in, the vibe was cool and retro. Drinks were delicious though on the small side. The fried small bites were also delicious and go well with the drinks. Looking forward to coming back sometime soon! -

Cute concept! Lovely drinks, very innovative with lots of Asian flavors. Will def come back. -
Review 12 (2023-05-24 - Rating: 5)
Their taiwanese bar food was delicious. We really liked the fried platter and the sweet potato fries. I was also pleasantly surprised by their specialty drinks. Only concern was a lack of seating since the space is fairly small. Luckily I was able to just walk in with a few friends and grab a table. -
Review 13 (2023-12-21 - Rating: 5)
Great vibes of Mandarin and Cantonese music that I grew up listening to! So nostalgic. Drinks are great! Not the melon you know is amazing, bartender’s kiss. My friend had a blueberry Cheesecake and that’s also BOMB. There wasn’t anything similar to an old fashioned on the menu, so I asked the bartender to make me an old fashion riff, love it. A gem in Court Square! -
Review 14 (2023-05-08 - Rating: 5)
First time to 929. Very intimate and nostalgic, love this place so much! Super recommend to couples or friends of small groups to visit. My favorite drink is Sweet Guilty Pleasure and Leslie’s Sleepless Night!! -
Review 15 (2023-05-15 - Rating: 5)
I recently had the pleasure of visiting the newly opened Asian fusion bar, and I must say it was an incredible experience from start to finish. The alcohol menu is an absolute masterpiece. The blend of flavors and ingredients from various Asian ingredients is a testament to the owners creativity and expertise. The bartenders are true mixologists, skillfully crafting unique concoctions that perfectly complement the flavors of the dishes. Whether youre a cocktail enthusiast or a wine connoisseur, this bar has something to satisfy every palate. -

Great experience! Everyone was very kind and knowledgeable on the cocktails. All cocktails were unique and delicious. From the speakeasy ambiance to fun Taiwan inspired drinks, 929 will definitely be my go to place in LIC!! Need to go back to try other cocktails :) -
Review 18 (2023-09-25 - Rating: 5)
Amazing cocktail speakeasy bar. Very nicely crafted cocktails with cool presentations and a very nice and relaxing music vibe. I would totally recommend this place as there isn’t anything like it in the neighborhood -
Review 19 (2024-07-23 - Rating: 5)
Cozy and small restaurant/bar in LIC. I love their fried platter and all of their drinks. I like the emperor and the coffee cocktail but all the other drinks are fantastic. I love the retro decor and vibes of the place. It can get a bit loud since its such a small space especially if it is packed. -
Review 20 (2024-12-15 - Rating: 5)
A superb speakeasy experience for a small group of friends or an intimate date. The food was the bomb! .. BIG s/o to the Chefs🫡 and the drinks were A1💯 with the nicest set of cocktail glasses I’ve ever seeeeen~ -
Review 21 (2024-09-12 - Rating: 5)
Excellent cocktails, Ive been here three times now and am always looking forward to coming back! They have rotated the menu frequently enough across the past half year or so for things to feel fresh, but their flavors remain consistent as well. I think Chinese/Taiwanese inspired flavors are underutilized in the mixology space, and this is one of a few bars in the city that does it incredibly well. The bartenders are also very friendly and attentive. I might be biased because I always sit at the bar though. One time, me and a friend ordered two drinks to share and as we were chatting, one of the bartenders saw that we werent drinking one of them and asked if we didnt like it as much and wanted him to make a new one. We told him that we actually really enjoyed it but it definitely left an impression on me that he cared enough to speak up. That just goes to show how passionate the bartenders are in my opinion, and is definitely a big part of why I will continue to go back! -
Review 22 (2024-08-17 - Rating: 5)
I don’t live in NY anymore but this place is a must-visit every time I’m back in town. Drinks are better than Double chicken please, Ye’s apothecary, peachy’s and some of the other Asian-themed bars/speakeasies in Manhattan. Highly recommend! -
Review 23 (2024-02-28 - Rating: 5)
Weve been to every cocktail bar in LIC, and this is the best one. Friendly, knowledgeable, and skilled bartenders and staff. Fantastic cocktails that are both inventive and balanced. Great music and interior vibe. Food from the next door Gulp is incredibly good - fried platter is a classic, and the shrimp with sprinkles is a mind-blowing surprise. Highly recommend. -
Review 24 (2024-12-22 - Rating: 5)

Review 27 (2024-08-01 - Rating: 5)
Had the chance to come here for a date and arrived without making a reservation prior. It was fairly busy yet they were able to seat us without us having to wait. The space itself if a bit small but intimate too. Theyve got bar seating as well as table seating available. After we were seated we scanned the QR codes on the table and looked through the menu. Throughout our stay they were specifically playing 90s Japanese pop and apparently they change the genre every three months at the venue. When it came time to order I started with the Midnight Pretender, then had the Not the Melon You Know, and ended with the Cats Eye. All drinks were great and each one had a delicate design on them too. Overall its a great venue for new music and an intimate setting for friends as well as a date. Id totally recommend visiting if youre in the area! -
Review 28 (2023-12-20 - Rating: 5)
Super cute and chill speakeasy. There is a 90-minute window that you have, so thats one downside, but Ive never spent that long at one bar. Definitely go for a cool, chill vibe and amazing drinks! -
Review 29 (2024-11-27 - Rating: 5)
I came here for drinks one late Friday night and lucked out with an available table for 2. Drinks were delicious and they looked really nice as well. Good ambiance and music. Glad I was able to come here, (quite the last minute spontaneous decision!) -
Review 30 (2024-06-24 - Rating: 5)
The best in LIC. Bartenders, food, anything you could want. They’re awesome at everything. Michelin star worthy. -
Review 31 (2023-05-11 - Rating: 4)
Drinks were 🔥 It was a party of 4 and we ordered 3 rounds so we tried at least 8 different drinks on the menu. The melon one and stranger drink were my favorite. 1 less star because food menu and portions were a little small for our group (only beef tendon was available that day so we couldn’t try others). Would love at least 1 more dish on there. Will be back though for sure!(We waited 30 min on a Wednesday a lil before 7pm. Since they don’t take reservations maybe go a little earlier since it started to queue.) -
Review 32 (2023-07-28 - Rating: 5)
Came here close to closing- I think only 30min before they closed. Ordered a lot of drinks and they were each very tasty. I enjoyed all of them! They had a really unique concept and I really liked the interior design!! Will definitely be back and recommend :) -

They have the most interesting cocktails! They incorporated a lot of interesting Asian ingredients in their cocktails, unique and delicious, it felt like I was at a bar in Hong Kong! Strongly recommend the Not the melon you know. The fried food platter is very good also, but a bit pricey. -
Review 36 (2023-09-18 - Rating: 4)
Ame on a rain check after some initial problems with staffing. The second time was a much more pleasant experience. The drinks came out very quickly, and they were per creative in ingredients and taste. The sweet potato fries were also pretty tasty. Id recommend for drinks and light bites -
Review 37 (2023-07-22 - Rating: 5)
Ayo if you’re looking for cocktails in LIC and want to put your close-minded friends on to this bomb neighborhood, bring them here. Death & Co? That bar above 5 Guys? Generic LES “speakeasy”? FOH. This place is it. Giving BIG Button Club Marvelous Mrs Maisel vibes IFYKK. I’m born and bred NYC as well so I know the deal. Very inventive cocktails, attentive service, great records on play. Bring a friend, bring a date, hell bring both if you’re feeling frisky. Bless. -

Review 39 (2023-05-08 - Rating: 5)
Unexpected little Taiwanese gem in LIC. Go for the cocktails. We tried the stranger, melon you know, sleepless night and bad cold drink (in order of my preference). 3/4 drinks were big hits: balanced and complex flavors that incorporate savory elements. The fried platter with popcorn chicken, tofu and mushrooms was good too!Ambiance is dark, chic, sleek, retro and intimate. Great date night spot. -
Review 40 (2023-10-19 - Rating: 5)

Amazing cocktails (at a reasonable price) and friendly staff! Cant wait to visit again! Highly recommend the winter melon based cocktail. Havent seen something like that in New York before. My friends and I went on the soft opening night so there were no food items on the menu but there were cute cupcakes :) -

Review 53 (2023-08-08 - Rating: 5)
My friend hard vouched for us to try this asian bar, and it definitely blew my expectations out of the water. Its a cute vinyl record bar tucked behind a food shop, with nostalgic mando and canto pop songs playing in the background.I like my asian cocktails, but these were just next level. Their cocktails are all tea infused, and taste of nostalgic dishes youd eat in your childhood!❖ I first had the Not the Melon You Know cocktail, which tasted so much like wintermelon tea, I actually did a double take.❖ But the favorite drink of the night has to be The Most Familiar Stranger You Know cocktail. Its based off of the drunken chicken dish (醉雞 for my mando people), and it actually tastes like it?? Which is insane?? And it tastes good???Ill definitely be coming by here more often, madk my words! -
Review 54 (2023-05-14 - Rating: 5)
Great cocktails, tasty food, and friendly service all with a chill vibe. -
Review 55 (2023-04-26 - Rating: 5)
“Love is like a bad cold” was a standout for me, what a trip down memory lane. I loved 枇杷膏 as a kid. They weren’t that strong but honestly that was a positive for me, I’d prefer to taste more without getting hammered. Vibes are on point, spicy peanuts? Yup! Can’t wait to come back! -

The most incredible drink program paired with the tastiest bites! absolutely love the atmosphere here - the nostalgia factor of all the drinks and food, paired with the canto-pop and mando-pop elements really just seals the deal! highly highly recommend “not the melon you know” in terms of drinks, and you really can’t go wrong with anything on the food menu!! -

There’s literally nowhere else like this in NYC!All the songs they played were in Mandarin and Cantonese makes me feel like homeeee and with the actual vinyl recordsss😍😍Not to mention that the cocktails are also REALLY GOOD, made with eastern ingredients like plum, tea, 高粱 like omgg -
Review 61 (2024-10-27 - Rating: 4)
A speakeasy-kinda spot hidden inside a Taiwanese restaurant! ive bookmarked this place for awhile and finally got to try it recently.the place had great ambience and they played a lot of Jolin Tsai and Jay Chou while i was there. the menu is fun in that the drinks are named after classic CPop songs. i got the most familiar stranger (because, shoutouts to Elva Hsiao!!!) and my companion tried a smoking poet. my drink was complex and well balanced, the soy milk + soy sauce maple foam was DELICIOUS. it reminded me of the cream foam top in bobas. we also tried the sweet potato fries and plum powder and that was good too.overall, it was a well-executed concept and i had a great time. id love to come back! -
Review 62 (2023-08-14 - Rating: 4)
Absolutely fabulous food & drinks. The decor is beautiful and the staff is excellent as well. Only note is that the music was only sometimes playing and sometimes not which threw off the atmosphere a bit. When that’s worked out it’ll be 5/5! -

The cocktails are so unique and are named after nostalgic pop songs. ‘Sweet Guilty Pleasure’ and ‘Not the Melon You Know’ are my girl friends and my favorite. Sweet and easy to drink. The Last Emperor has a good hint of Kaoliang and I personally love it!Natsu no Breeze is refreshing with the perfect amount of guava taste. Strongly recommend! -

Immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Canto-Pop and Mando-Pop at 929, a new cocktail and vinyl record bar thats truly a music lovers paradise. From the beautifully designed interior to their curated memorabilia collection, the attention to detail is impeccable. But its not just the aesthetics that make 929 (and your obligatory Saturday night IG story) special—the craft cocktails are simply outstanding. With unique ingredients like chrysanthemum tea-infused gin and winter melon & Osmanthus syrup you won’t find a menu like this anywhere else. -

Review 74 (2023-10-14 - Rating: 4)
The food was really good. Classic Asian street food/snacks which really hit the spot! The space is a little limited inside so if you don’t reserve and go at peak times, you might not be able to get in. I like that they have a nice assortment of Asian themed cocktails and drinks (ex. Japanese beers, ume liqueurs). The interior vibe is very chill, and I liked the decorations — seemed to be record themed. The only downside is that this spot is a little pricey compared to other speakeasy’s I’ve been to, and one of the staff seemed a little moody but perhaps she was having a bad day. -
Review 75 (2023-10-19 - Rating: 5)
Coming from someone who has tried the whole menu, I can safely say 929 has the best cocktails, ambiance, food and people. It’s always a vibe coming here - highly recommend! -

I sat at the bar and it was really cool to watch Cooper and Jun in action. Had a few different drinks and all were something special and not what other cocktail bars are offering. Everyone was very welcoming and even though I didn’t have a reservation I felt no animosity or pretentiousness from the team and I am excited to return. -
Review 79 (2023-05-13 - Rating: 5)
Very nice cocktails and nostalgic street food! The songs they play here are also the retro pop songs that you can’t hear anywhere else in the city.Definitely try their “The Most Familiar Stranger” and their “Love is like a Bad Cold” if 川貝枇杷膏 was your childhood guilty pleasure! -
Review 80 (2024-07-19 - Rating: 5)
After so many visits, I honestly can’t believe I am only writing this review now. Imagine this is 3 blocks away from my old apartment building, seriously, this took me moving away to write 😭)My love for this place is unmatched. Yeah sure they keep the same menu, but honey have you tried the drinks? They don’t need to change it PERIODT. It’s every Asian Americans childhood memory turned into adulthood. Imagine Pipagao in your cocktail 👀 grandma would approve of that! ( not actually but there is a cocktail that taste like it 🥴)Vibe check:The music: UGH so many classics get played, the volume is just loud enough for you to have great conversation but still be in the song. The decor: Cozy, Dim but just the right amount of light, and you can tell the owners love their place, i.e; the vinyl collection 😩 the owners 100% percent went back to the promise and dug through every thrift/ record shop they could find ( or they have some really hip relatives and borrowed from their collection) A comedic touch- the mini retro karaoke, the cutest thing ever!!!!!(LITERALLY I ASK TO TAKE THAT HOME EVERYTIME, ONE DAY THEY’LL GIVE IN, I mean they caved and gave me a cup sooooo 🤷🏻♀️)NOW THE CONSUMABLES:GET THE FRIED PLATTER PLEASE, FOR YOUR SAKE AND MINE. No frills, just good o’l Taiwanese flavors and textures.Get the Beef shank too ( maybe not on a date, cuz garlic may not help you, BUT IF YOU BOTH ROLL THAT WAY 😮💨)I CANNOT GET OVER THE TEA COCKTAILSSWEET GUILTY PLEASUREFAYES LOVE LIFENOT THE MELON YOU KNOW ( osmanthus anything is tea to me 👀) -

Nearly missed this awesome little spot when I was walking by, soo glad I walked in and was able to secure myself a seat at the bar with no wait on a Thursday night, wonderful service with artfully crafted cocktails in a tastefully decorated space, lots of comfy looking booths . Single bathroom stall was spotless , they even had a cute marcel Breuer style b3 chair for you to sit in if there is a wait. -

Sweet Guilty Pleasure - love the earl grey3. Natsu No Breeze - easy to drink cocktail4. The Most Familiar Stranger - best body with amazing foam cream on top5. Not the Melon you know6. Love is Like a bad Cold - comes in a beautiful teacup -

Great speakeasy vibes spot behind a ramen spot. My second time here. Last time, I was shortly after they opened last year.Their drinks have familiar Asian scents and taste. Good structure to the cocktailsThe staff was super friendly on both visits and guide you through the cocktails. There is a DJ spinning and vintage asian vinyls.Definitely want to come back again sooner. Friends I came with come here once every 2 weeksDrinks are reasonably priced. We had theMystical comppserLove is like a bad coldMidnight pretenderMost familiar strabgerBKK TO HKGWe liked all out drinks -

A cocktail bar names its drinks after Chinese pop songs. Inside, posters and records of famous Chinese singers are displayed. On the walls, you’ll find Sammi Cheng (鄭秀文), Faye Wong (王菲), Alan Tam (譚詠麟), Deanie Ip (葉德嫻), S.H.E, and others.Their menu is charmingly presented as a QR code on the cover of a cassette tape, featuring Anita Mui (梅艷芳). -

929 is hands down my favorite bar in nyc - the place is cozy and full of personality. The drinks are also simply amazing. I highly recommend Not the Melon You Know and Natsu No Breeze if you are looking for cocktails that are refreshing and sweet (but not too sweet)! I also love their fried platter. -

This place is so cool! If youre looking for a low-key night to catch up with some friends, looking for a nice, low key intimate date night, with good cocktails, food and amazing service, look no further then 929 in LIC.Its easy to miss but not hard to find, just pay attention to the address. The music is very cool Asian pop music from the 80s and 90s. The volume on the music is just right, not at all obnoxiously loud. Its at the perfect volume where you can hear your fellow guest and but clearly make out the music. You can whisper, talk normally, without having to scream at each other or talk into each others ear.The food portions are small and a little pricey but every meal is really tasty and worth it. So dont come here expecting to fill your belly. Come from the incredibly unique and tasty drinks and eats but dont expect to be in a food coma. Unless you order a tremendous amount of food. The service was on point. All the host were so nice, very knowledgeable about the food and drinks, made sure everything was okay and didnt try to rush us out. The bartenders were cool and funny. The whole vibe is just really chill, relaxing, intimate. I really dig this spot and will return and highly recommend it. -

Went to their Grand Opening and it was fun vibes and friendly atmosphere. Wish there was more canto-pop that played. Hopefully next time I won’t get seated on a chair but overall I want to come back to try out the other drinks on the menu. -

Great wine and salted chicken. The whole vibe is also great. I prefer this bar to many well-known bars with long queues.
