One of my favorite spots for drinks+food in NYC! I truly mean it! Their food and drinks are both great, especially if you enjoy a touch of Japanese influence though out.I have visited here many times. I came with my girlfriends for drinks and with my husband for dinners, and I always had wonderful time. Their cocktails were fantastic as well as their Japanese imports. The food were consistently tasty. I highly recommend their Caesar Salad、Omu Rice(both the chicken and garlic were good) and the Duck Roast. The atmosphere is chill and classy, reminiscent of the old school westernized Japanese restaurants you’d actually find in Japan. I will keep coming back for sure!

Bar Moga is a divey and nostalgic Japanese restaurant/cocktail bar in Greenwich Village. We came here for the signature omurice, but I was more impressed by the mocktail. My friend described this spot giving Haruki Murakami novel vibes, which I totally agreed. If you are looking for a place for a romantic date night, Bar Moga will surely impress your date.*Potato SaladIt is more like a one-person serving with the small portion. The potato salad was blended with mashed potato, carrots and onions. The mustard dressing has a sweet honey taste. We liked the crispy lotus garnished on top.*Gokden Uni PanA tiny and delicate piece of uni shokupan, topped with hokkaido uni. Not a big fan of uni, but this was not fishy at all. Very buttery and creamy.*Omu Rice**We opted for the classic chicken omurice with chicken. Our server cut open the omelette for us, and gently pour the hot demi-glaze sauce over the egg. The omelette was cooked to perfection — runny, fluffy and soft. So delectable with the tasty fried rice and veal sauce.*Amber Sky (zero proof cocktail)**Flavor notes: Lyres Italian spritz, orange, grapefruit, lemon, rose, honey and aquafaba. As a non-alcoholic girlie, I’ve tried quite many mocktails. This is by far the most satisfying one I’ve ever had. The rosy flavor shines, and I liked the fruity combo of orange and grapefruit. It was nicely crafted with a foamy texture.***Get mentally prepared their food portion is VERY SMALL for the steep price you’re paying.

Great spot for light meal and cocktails. Great atmosphere. Love that this is close to a Japanese style bar where the music isnt loud and theres decent lighting so I can see my food and drink. The cocktails are superb. This is probably the best bar in Manhattan.Highly recommend you make reservations latest a day beforehand. Walk-in isnt too bad at 530pm on a Saturday but they will tell you you need to go after 7pm for the other reservations. Its a good place to get some drinks in before your main event. Recommend lotus chips with the chicken liver pate.

  • Review 5 (2024-05-19 - Rating: 5)

I love the vibe of this place! We live in the area and have been to it a few times already. The cocktails are great and the decor and service are also outstanding. I am also a huge fan of their non-alcoholic cocktails. They have a good selection of these and the zero prof cocktails are actually good and upscale!

  • Review 6 (2024-07-22 - Rating: 5)

Fantastic food and cocktails. Lovely atmosphere. Would recommend getting a reservation. Definitely recommend

  • Review 7 (2024-06-03 - Rating: 5)

Japanese bars like these make me so happy because of the attention to quality - they have fun and tasty drinks on the menu as well as hearty food such as their omurice and sandos. Service is professional and friendly and the overall space is accommodating. Would come back!

  • Review 8 (2024-04-26 - Rating: 5)

They have tasteful selection of Japanese alcohol. The ice cube they used in the cocktail is transparent and clear which is aesthetically pleasing and nice. Omu rice is a must have!

  • Review 9 (2024-12-31 - Rating: 4)

Cool bar. Good cocktails. Cool windows and art. Old school bar with an attentive staff. Rechargeable GOLD table lamp. Friend might snag it.Want to come back to try the food and some more cocktails.

  • Review 10 (2023-06-17 - Rating: 4)

I had a high expectation before visiting since the omu rice and the katsu sando were what I wanna try so bad.Services were great, place was chill, but not every dish met the point. And it was pricy overall.✨There’s no doubt that omu rice was the VIP. Rich flavor, smooth egg going over the top. A MUST!The meat of katsu sando (fried pork sandwich) was dry although the dish looked so cute.Last, gyuton curry rice (beef tongue curry rice) was delicious but slightly expensive. For the cocktail, I had Fly Me to the Moon, the most expensive one. It was great. You may taste all the ingredients they used but balanced. The only thing is that the cup was small, half full only. Some people might not think it worth the price.

  • Review 11 (2024-12-12 - Rating: 5)

We got all their famous dishes and they were all very good except for the omurice. It’s overrated because the sauce is basically just lots of ketchup with Worcestershire sauce (I’d rate it 3 out of 5).Atmosphere is trendy and romantic but the tables are way too close to each other crammed I. A little space so you don’t get any privacy in your conversations.Staff was thoughtful and friendly. Make a reservation.

  • Review 12 (2023-08-04 - Rating: 5)

Came for the omurice, which was absolutely delicious, but the atmosphere, staff, and owner kept us here for a couple drinks. If the cured duck breast is still on the menu, I highly recommend that as well.

  • Review 13 (2023-09-10 - Rating: 5)

The staff here is truly exceptional, offering top-notch service and incredible accommodation. Id highly recommend arriving early, especially on weekends, as it tends to fill up quickly due to both walk-ins and reservations.Once inside, youll experience a vibe reminiscent of Angel Share, with the added bonus of a comprehensive kitchen menu. The layout is designed for romantic dates or casual hangouts with friends. On weekends, dont miss the live Jazz performances during brunch until 3 PM, so arriving early is a must if you want to secure a seat. The cocktails and cuisine at this establishment are expertly crafted. Be sure to savor the Moga Old Fashioned and, of course, the delectable Omu Rice. This place is definitely worth a visit, whether youre waiting for your Dante reservations or simply looking to enjoy a great time.Fun fact: The head chef here is an incredible drummer! 😎

  • Review 14 (2024-08-08 - Rating: 5)

We come here time to time if we’re in the area and want some good drinks. Never tried the food but the drinks are on point 👌

  • Review 15 (2024-09-05 - Rating: 5)

Love the Japanese whiskey and I didn’t know they had Japanese Vodka. Love the waiter Kato. Good service!

  • Review 16 (2024-08-03 - Rating: 4)

We tried two unique egg white-based cocktails here, and they were both exceptional. They had a lighter feel than most other egg white cocktails, making them truly stand out. We thoroughly enjoyed them and will definitely be coming back for more!

  • Review 17 (2023-08-13 - Rating: 4)

Cool bar with good cocktails and tasty plates. We had a great experience. Only downside for us was that the atmosphere in the back room is completely different from main room - not as good. And overall a bit pricey for the quality/presentation of food

  • Review 18 (2024-01-21 - Rating: 5)

Got the Princess Mononoke and Hasta Mañana- both were great, I’d recommend both for tequila / mezcal lovers.Loved sitting at the bar, and liked the whole bar vibe a lot. They have ice shipped from Japan! Bartenders were very nice and fun to talk to.

  • Review 19 (2024-08-31 - Rating: 5)

Only had drinks but the barmanship was fantastic. The on menu options are great, but the off-menu sazerac is what you really want.

  • Review 20 (2024-08-26 - Rating: 5)

Really enjoyed our visit for some afternoon cocktails. Will def be coming back for the flavorful, well balanced, elegantly decorated cocktails and want to try their food next time!Their attention to detail is top notch, from the diff. coasters to use based on the cocktails glasses & presentation, to the attentive yet never too much service we received. We were very thankful towards our hostess and bartender for the great experience we had.We tried 3 cocktails in total, 2 from the menu and one creation. Our bartender Daiki really gave lots of thoughts to what he presented us, and the result was fantastic! The other two we tried were Bee-Bop and Fly me to the moon, we really liked the Japanese touch presented in both drinks, well balanced with a hint of saltiness! Already looking forward to our next visit!

  • Review 21 (2023-03-15 - Rating: 5)

My brother found this place for “food after the first spot” on his birthday evening. I was greeted by an upscale izakaya, and we were all super impressed. The omurice was delicious, the kani cream croquette was super rich and good, and the katsu sando was the best part by far. I can’t speak highly enough about that sandwich. The drinks were also amazing. I started with a Princess Mononoke, and finished with a Cafe Printemps, and while I liked the first one a lot I loved the second drink. Also wanted to mention that our server was incredible. Loved being there, wish we had been able to stay longer!

  • Review 22 (2023-06-06 - Rating: 5)

Definitely had a wonderful experience here at Moga. The Bar Tender was well Thorough explaining different ingredients on what taste you would prefer. Excellent service, clean atmosphere, and pricing is reasonable. Will definitely come back for future service

  • Review 23 (2022-04-06 - Rating: 5)

Had to give Bar Moga’s omurice a try. The egg is perfectly soft and the garlic rice’s homemade ketchup has some extra kick that’s delicious. Reminded me of the omurice I had in Japan! The katsu sandwich was also tasty! They have an extensive cocktail menu and other dishes as well. Awesome meal all around!

  • Review 24 (2022-11-01 - Rating: 5)

We come from highly recommended it, and it truly did not disappoint. Delicious dishes, refreshing (& strong) drinks, and vibey ambiance located in Greenwich Village!

  • Review 25 (2022-03-15 - Rating: 5)

Really a good place to hangout with friends or date. It is rare a bar serve great cocktails (specially the amazing Japanese collection) and GREAT food! One of the best deal for A5 wagyu in the city! Always order omelet rice if I’m here!

  • Review 26 (2024-08-26 - Rating: 5)

I had a great time there. We ordered two drinks on the menu and asked the bartender to create the third drink. They all turned out great and delicious. The bartender is very friendly. I highly recommend this Japanese cocktail bar.

  • Review 27 (2021-10-29 - Rating: 5)

Excellence in customer service with a great complimentary menu.Stopped by this spot after enjoying an omakase meal near by. Was only going to get some drinks but what the hell, I’ll order some food too for funsy.I enjoyed the black Manhattan. Good enough for me to order another glass. For something to nibble on, we ordered the omurice. The dish was brought out and egg sliced in front of us and then lid beautifully on the bed of rice. It was perfectly cooked, the eggs soft and the rice had a good chewy texture (qq). I think if they added a little greens garnishing this dish would look even more beautiful. The service was amazing. Our waitress and waiter was attentive and made sure you had everything you needed. We had two other people join our table and they were quickly accommodated.I’d be interested in returning and trying the other dishes they have on the menu.

  • Review 28 (2023-06-25 - Rating: 5)

This is one of my favorite places in NYC. They have imaginative cocktails and gourmet takes on Japanese comfort food like omurice and katsu sando. I went to their jazz brunch for the first time today. The music was a little bit too intense for such a small space.

  • Review 29 (2024-07-15 - Rating: 5)

I had such a wonderful time here. It’s really a hidden gem. The owner and staff are SO friendly and nice, they made the experience even better. But the inside is just so gorgeous and refined. And the drinks are so creative and well made. I had a great experience

  • Review 30 (2024-08-27 - Rating: 5)

Its called a bar but the food is excellent. Omurice is done to perfection, unfolds on its own just like in anime. Gyutan curry melts in your mouth. Bit pricey but worth a taste.

  • Review 31 (2023-01-17 - Rating: 5)

The service is stellar.Everyone on the staff were welcoming & attentive but unintrusive.Happy hour menu had many drinks to offer. The Black Manhattan and the Tom Collins were both really standouts. My colleague ordered a seasonal drink from their last menu, and they were able to accommodate us happily. The venue is unique and really nice to take the time to gaze at each of the details. It has a cozy, sophisticated atmosphere. The drinks were made with such precision from the Bar staff. It is also really intriguing to see their focus in creating each beverage.I appreciated the sample tasting of a drink on the menu.Ordered Omu Rice. For my first time, I really enjoyed it. Appreciated the house made ketchup on top.The crab croquettes and pork belly sandwiches were really good too.I would go again, as it was a wonderful experience.

  • Review 32 (2021-07-29 - Rating: 5)

Bar moga is a cute little bar near Greenwich Village. They had a variety of drinks and I ended up going with the Nausicaä. It was well balanced and i found it enjoyable. The star of the meal was the omurice. The soft scramble omelet paired really well with the fried rice and demi-glace sauce. I would highly recommend it.

  • Review 33 (2023-11-13 - Rating: 4)

Absolutely loved the matcha tonic cocktail – dress up for the night! The Katsu Sando was a flavor explosion with crispy pork, mustard, and miso sauce. The Omurice was good, though the demi glace sauce leaned towards the sweet side, making it a bit challenging for solo dining. While its a bit pricey, the cute vibe adds to the overall charm.

  • Review 34 (2019-12-22 - Rating: 4)

Japanese royal style decoration with dime light. There are some interesting drinks, such as the hot cocktail with scotch, green tea, plum wine, mint and dried lemon. It came out in an elegant tea cup. Food wise, both Katsu Sando and Uni Toast are worth to try. I like the sweet miso sauce in the Katsu Sando.

  • Review 35 (2023-08-26 - Rating: 5)

Really dope vibe for a bar. Definitely worth the trip for the Omu Rice alone, but everything Ive eaten here was outstanding.

  • Review 36 (2024-08-12 - Rating: 5)

They have many different kinds of alcohol. Especially their cocktails are my favorite. Food quality is high and the atmosphere is nostalgic and calming.

  • Review 37 (2022-09-23 - Rating: 5)

Highlights were definitely the pork katsu sando, croquettes, and Omu rice. Great service, ambience and food. Large selection of Japanese whiskeys.

  • Review 38 (2021-12-27 - Rating: 5)

Came here for a Christmas date, really enjoyed the dimly lit moody ambience. My partner had the Moga and it was great, I had a seasonal cocktail (forgot the name, had pomegranate in it) and it was great! We also tried the Zireael and the smoke was a fun effect; i found the drink itself to be too spirit forward but thats just a preference thing it was still very well done. We split the omu rice (omelette with veal glaze) and enjoyed that, too. Would definitely recommend this spot!

  • Review 39 (2022-05-24 - Rating: 5)

Very tasty! We think is an authentic Japanese restaurant. We order food to share and it was delicious (hamachi carpaccio was great). The sake was also very good and we enjoyed the happy hour time! Cocktails at $10.

  • Review 40 (2021-11-02 - Rating: 5)

This place is a fantastic Japanese 🇯🇵 restaurant! Bar Moga has an amazing variety of delicious Japanese 🎌 dishes 🍽️ and drinks 🍸. You absolutely have to try the Omu Rice 🍚🍳 - it is beautiful served and totally Instagram-worthy! 📸 The Sake 🍶 is also fantastic! I wish I came here more often!

  • Review 41 (2024-05-26 - Rating: 5)

Bar Moga is a nice cocktail bar with a pretty solid list of unique cocktails all made by an excellent bar staff. The mixology here is really well done and very different from other bars you come by in this area. They are definitely expensive (or, at least, New York prices as expected), but its a great date night spot if youre interested in trying something new.

  • Review 42 (2023-07-24 - Rating: 4)

The drinks here were really not my taste. The food was decent but pricey for what they are.

  • Review 43 (2022-09-30 - Rating: 5)

Creamy croquettes and divine hamachi. Absolutely love the ambiance of this place and its probably the best ‘early dating’ spot.

  • Review 44 (2024-09-22 - Rating: 5)

The vintage upscale Japanese feel is fantastic, the whisky selection is unbelievable, and every food item we tried on the menu were excellent (the wagyu katsu sando was out of this world). Service was also great, discreet and efficient. Everything on the menu is on the pricey side, but worth it!

  • Review 45 (2024-09-09 - Rating: 5)

Absolute gem! Amazing food, delicious cocktails and lovely service. Honestly a wonderful experience all around.

  • Review 46 (2024-07-07 - Rating: 5)

Great vibes, great bites, and even greater drinks!Food: we ordered the Kani Cream Croquettes, Signature Omurice, and Katsu Sando. The croquettes were incredibly creamy under the light crunch of the breading and the tartar sauce that comes with it was the perfect dip.The omelette in the omurice was cooked to perfection and the demiglace sauce had a fantastic depth of flavor. The pork in the Katsu Sando had probably the juiciest piece of pork Ive had in a long time.On the drinks side we had The Moga, Fly Me To The Moon, Princesses Mononoke, Bee-bop, and the New York Henge. All were fantastic in their own way. This bar has a great selection of Japanese whiskeys so I highly recommend the cocktails that feature whiskey or going for the whiskey flight.

  • Review 47 (2024-11-03 - Rating: 5)

Absolutely phenomenal. Drinks and food are excellent and the staff is super friends. Fun spot.

  • Review 48 (2022-09-05 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 49 (2024-12-24 - Rating: 5)

Drinks are great, good food, but a bit overpriced.Precision bar tending.

  • Review 50 (2024-06-07 - Rating: 5)

For an elevated Japanese cocktail bar with bites, this is the spot. Bar Moga is a great place to come with friends or a date. The vibes are great, place is cozy. The drinks are strong and very tasty. The food was great. The potato salad is a must try, the crab croquette was also nice a fluffy and smooth. The pork sando was juicy and cooked to perfection. And the omnirice wasn’t too salty and full of flavor.Bathroom was clean, staff friendly. Note this place does have a 2 hr dining limit.

  • Review 51 (2023-06-22 - Rating: 5)

Highly recommend. Everything on the menu is delicious. Our favorite item was the Omu Rice.

  • Review 52 (2024-12-22 - Rating: 5)

One of the best classic cocktail I’ve had here in NYC.

  • Review 53 (2023-10-24 - Rating: 5)

I just want to say the cut of that ice cube was superb. I wasn’t just impressed with the jazz band while walking in but the service of the hostess and their regiment but even from the convenience of the bar stool to the minimal ornament on the glass. I wasn’t sure what to order so I told the bartender “something semi sweet”. He recommended their take on the Old Fashioned and it was marvelous. It was exactly what I was craving for. The service, atmosphere, decor and flavors were perfect and that’s not even mentioning the presentation. It’s that type of spot I could bring a loved one or even go solo. 10/10 💯 Can’t wait to try their food next.

  • Review 54 (2024-12-27 - Rating: 5)

    10/10 Omurice

  • Review 55 (2024-09-14 - Rating: 5)

Spectacular! A real oasis in the city. Drinks are mind blowing, service is extremely professional. Can’t recommend enough.

  • Review 56 (2024-06-08 - Rating: 4)

Had birthday drinks and bites here. Service was nice. But they really rushed us at the 2hr mark and I would understand that if there were people waiting. But there wasn’t. That said they have a good happy hour selection and the apps were good. The pork sliders were awesome. Tender and juicy. They had a sauce on them like hoisin I think. The duck was very good as well. The potatoe salad is not large if you plan to share. Sorry limited pics.We had the cheese cake which was also very good.

  • Review 57 (2020-02-26 - Rating: 5)

Delicious food and cocktails! The atmosphere was great and the chef was amazing. Would highly recommend the Omurice. Loved it!!

  • Review 60 (2024-11-09 - Rating: 5)

Bar Moga is a true hidden treasure in NYC! The moment you walk in, you’re transported to a different era with its vintage, 1920s Japanese-inspired decor. The ambiance is so thoughtfully designed—dim lighting, art deco touches, and soft jazz in the background give it a warm, intimate feel. It’s an ideal spot for a cozy night with friends or an impressive date night.Their cocktail menu is where the magic happens, and the Mist of Ember is an absolute standout. This drink is incredibly complex yet balanced, made with Palo Santo-infused vodka, Italicus, Noilly Prat, pear brandy, a splash of lime, seltzer which adds a subtle sweetness that’s perfectly balanced by the bright citrusy kick of lime. The gentle effervescence from the seltzer lightens the drink, making it wonderfully refreshing. As for the Matsui Single Malt “Sakura.” The Matsui Single Malt “Sakura” is an exceptional whiskey that truly stands out. It’s incredibly smooth, with delicate floral notes that evoke the beauty of Japan’s cherry blossoms, and a subtle sweetness that’s both refreshing and refined. The balance of fruitiness and oak gives it a complexity that’s easy to sip and incredibly satisfying. The finish is soft and warm, leaving a lasting impression without being overpowering. Each sip is unique, almost like you’re drinking a story in a glass—it’s smoky, aromatic, and wonderfully refreshing all at once. The service at Bar Moga is top-notch, too. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the craft behind each cocktail. They’re more than happy to guide you through the menu or suggest a drink based on your taste. It’s rare to find a bar where every detail feels so perfectly curated, from the drinks to the service to the ambiance. Bar Moga is a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy a truly memorable cocktail experience in NYC.

Dont sleep on this place and dont let the word bar fool you because they actually have really good food!!Our party of 3 walked in around 8pm on a Friday night and was able to get a table in the back immediately. My husband is someone who loves reading menus so he had an inking the food was going to be good and while I hate to say it... he was right and the food was off the charts!Everything is bite sized and youre actually able to put in half orders so we did 1.5 orders for items that only came in pairs. Worked out very well.Food was so delectable.. didnt know what to expect but sure didnt disappoint. Everything just had enough flavours and melts in your mouth... Im salivating thinking about the wagyu toast. So good.. will def go back!I would try and make a resy next time because they were pretty busy!

I went for one of the seasonal drinks called the Mist of Ember was refreshing to drink so had to order another. My friend went with one seasonal drink and one non-seasonal one also he got the sailor song mule and cafe Printemps. They were also just as delicious. I would love to come back to this place to try more of the menu. That garlic omu rice is calling my name!

Had a great Saturday night with a few friends. Cocktails are solid 5 ⭐s - truly unique combination of ingredients. We ordered Fly me to the moon, Dress up for the night and The moga and they were all great. Strong drinks, but the alcohol was not overpowering. I ordered the Omu rice (egg over rice) because it looked fun, didnt have much expectation but it has got to be the best Omu rice Ive had! Really fluffy and creamy eggs. Cannot wait to be back.

Surprised I hadn’t left a review sooner! Love this place. First came 3 years ago. Omurice is the best here. I tried the drinks: earth, wind, fire and bee bop. Fly me to the moon and dress up for the night are also really good. Honestly can’t go wrong with the drinks or food here!

  • Review 73 (2018-10-12 - Rating: 4)

Dark, cozy place to have a cocktail and Japanese bite - try the omurice! 👍 service. I’ve been here several times, consistent on all points.

Its hard to put into words how much I loved Bar Moga. The care that absolutely everyone puts into this place is immense and it shows. You wont find a better tasting cocktail than they mix here and the Katsu is a must.Excellent atmosphere and design, friendly, welcoming staff and some of the most delicious food youve ever tasted.

  • Review 75 (2023-08-05 - Rating: 5)

We have not visited Bar Moga for 7 years and finally gave it another try last weekend. Their omu rice is known to be one of the best in NYC.We got their Grilled Caesar Salad, Kani Cream Croquette, Golden Uni Pan, Katsu Sando and Omu Rice to share. Their food was delicate and delicious but with small portion and little high price. The video of cutting omu rice is their signature and the texture of egg was soft & smooth. Our favorite was Katsu Sando which was fried perfectly with flavorful sauce.

  • Review 76 (2023-12-10 - Rating: 4)

The moga and vegetable ramen are delicious. Radagon chip goes well with the drink. Wagyu toast is not worth it.

  • Review 77 (2024-02-26 - Rating: 5)

Food and drinks were delicious. I will definitely be returning here to try more of their menu

  • Review 78 (2023-10-15 - Rating: 4)

Omu rice was amazing. Katsu Sando was not good. Drinks were all okay.

  • Review 79 (2022-12-18 - Rating: 5)

Amazing environment and vibes for a unique NYC dinner and drinks. The Omu Rice is an absolute must and the Katsu Sando is divine. That’s not even the star of the show, you can tell the cocktails have a lot of thought behind it and the bartenders are the best. Truly a 10/10 experience.

  • Review 80 (2022-09-16 - Rating: 5)

Great cocktails and delicious dishes! The staff is super nice. Youre gonna have a great time! Looking forward to going back.

  • Review 81 (2023-04-10 - Rating: 4)

The alcohol are very mediocre and expensive. I only recommend the food here. I like the omu rice, koucha pannacottini dessert, and hamachi carpaccio (the Uni quality is great)! We spend $160/2 people excluding tips. Not worth the money. Would rather try new similar bars than sticking to this bar and come again.

  • Review 82 (2023-07-24 - Rating: 5)

Awesome cocktails and the small bites are great too. I’ve come a few times with people from work and never been disappointed. Bartenders put a lot of effort into each drink and it makes a difference.

  • Review 83 (2023-04-30 - Rating: 5)

Delicious food and drinks at reasonable price, especially for NYC. The only thing worth mentioning is that personally I think the egg over rice was a bit over hyped. It was the vegetarian version. It was good, but a bit simple.

  • Review 84 (2024-02-18 - Rating: 4)

A cozy place for hang out .

  • Review 85 (2024-05-26 - Rating: 5)

Had a lovely time at Bar Moga. The vibe is really nice, trying to capture the feel of a jazzy speakeasy. The staff were very nice and extremely attentive. The food was amazing. We had the Omu Rice and the Katsu sandwich. We will definitely be back again. Also make to make reservations or there will be a long wait time.

  • Review 87 (2024-10-13 - Rating: 5)

Exquisite cocktails and small bites - novel and appealing flavor and texture mixes. Buzzy but not overwhelming environment with attentive and detailed service. A top-notch experience.

  • Review 88 (2021-04-30 - Rating: 5)

Made reservations after watching the YouTube video on Omu Rice -- had to try. Service was stellar, cocktails were complex and well mixed (if not strong), and the food was the highlight. The Omu Rice was our favorite -- comfort food at its very best -- but the veggie ramen was also top shelf. We were treated like true guests and experienced high quality cuisine. Will definitely be visiting again, either to enjoy the bar when its open, or at a table with my out-of-town friends looking for an unbeatable experience. Loved every minute!

  • Review 89 (2023-05-23 - Rating: 5)

Food is amazing, especially the omurice!

  • Review 90 (2023-06-06 - Rating: 5)

If there is one thing I pride myself in it is my ability to find a FIRE japanese cocktail joint that serves small bites. Truly nothing makes me happier. Bar Moga makes the cut any day. The cocktails are phenomenal (they have great off menu mocktails as well) – special mention to my fav, Cafe Printemps which is their espresso martini with a citrus twist. They also have Pisco Sour on the menu this season which was so special because I loved having them in Portugal. The food at Bar Moga is great – this duck (pictured) was as good as it looks. Pretty pricey so def not a regular go-to, but I do love it for a special occasion. Highly recommend!

  • Review 91 (2018-12-15 - Rating: 5)

Fancy dining experience. They have the Omurice that has the fluffy egg which they cut for you and the egg just splits in half. The cost is not very high considering the atmosphere and the quality of the service. Everything was pretty much top notch. The space is very cozy and perfect for dates. After eating, they have an elegant bar and grab high quality drinks. Would love to come back here again for the omurice and try other menu items

  • Review 92 (2021-07-30 - Rating: 5)

4.8 -- Johns my current favorite bartender in NYC.. cocktails are priced $13-15 a piece and is exceptional. I can see why some people say the food is abit pricey.. we enjoyed everything though. The omurice is surprisingly flavorful(Ive had too many bad curries). Come here for the cocktails and chat with John for you home bar tips!!

  • Review 94 (2021-10-16 - Rating: 5)

Came here last night and didn’t take any photos because we were so hungry. Absolutely love the cocktails here and the presentation. We got omurice and katsu sando for food. The omurice was delicious and creamy. We were seated outside and it was still a good experience. Our server was attentive and would keep us posted about the wait for drinks and food since it was a busy Friday night. The receipt said that his name was Mamoru so thank you!

  • Review 95 (2023-11-18 - Rating: 5)

Amazing place to dine. I am not a fan of drink but their food is very good. Ive been here for their food for a couple of times. I recommend their omu rice and uni toast. The uni(urchin) is so soft and sweet, really worth tasting!

  • Review 96 (2022-02-07 - Rating: 4)

Omurice is good, its rare to have this kind of omurice in NYC, which is the closest one to what I had when traveling to JP.The chef used a knife to rip the half-cooked omu egg which will spread on the rice immediately. So if you dont like half-cooked style, dont order. The sauce is demi-glace, which is one of the authentic Yōshoku style omurice.Katsu sando is good too, and good for sharing. However, its kinda simple, toast, katsu and katsu sauce, nothing really special or different.I prefer the katsu sando with some shred cabbage, which makes a more fresh flavor. They didnt have that, so we ordered a salad, better than I expected, and I would say it was tasty.Cocktail is ok, tasty ok, not too weird, not too fancy.Overall, Bar Moga is good for snacks, like after a movie, or a date (the music volume is moderate, and space not crowded), or a small bite before party.

  • Review 97 (2024-03-15 - Rating: 5)

We tried a range of drinks and loved them all! Very unique. Will be back for the food for sure.

  • Review 98 (2020-01-15 - Rating: 5)

I went here for drinks before a show at LPR, and was not disappointed! The drinks are amazing and the work and skill that goes into making the drinks is on full display - from carving up giant cubes of ice to shaking, stirring, and pouring cocktails.Stop by here for drinks, and bring friends if you want to impress them. I heard the food is good as well, but havent tried for myself yet.

  • Review 99 (2024-03-03 - Rating: 5)

    Nice discovery

  • Review 100 (2021-02-25 - Rating: 5)

Ive been here a few times at this point and the issue I always have is my eyes are bigger than my stomach. How is one supposed to decide between omurice, croquettes, and a katsu sand? Trick question you order all of them and bring the leftovers home with you.The cocktails compliment the menu very well. My personal cocktail highlights are namesake drink The Moga if I am in the mood for darker liquors and if Im in the mood for something lighter I go with the gin based Silk Merchant.

  • Review 101 (2021-11-30 - Rating: 4)

Lovely staff and ambiance. Im sad I didnt know about them sooner, but happy that I go here now.Vegetarian ramen is a surprise hit, and where its at. Oh, omurice it.Drinks are as legit as their bathroom wallpaper. Which is legit. Get the Cafe Printemps if you like coffee cocktails. This spot always delivers!

  • Review 104 (2018-08-31 - Rating: 5)

Not a lot in vegetarian options but hands down the BEST vegetarian ramen I’ve had in the city so far. Creamy, not too many mushrooms, and he crispy veggies add a great texture. Also wonderful recommendations on the sake.

The omu rice exceeded my expectations. I’ve seen this dish all over Instagram and it was a must have. Commonly found in japan. If you’re Hispanic like me.. think arroz con huevos. If you’re Hawaiian.. the flavor kind of reminded me of a loco moco cause of the gravy. Basically it’s an omelette over fried rice with a rich gravy. The egg continues to cook once cut open and the hot gravy is poured on top so it’s not as runny when you eat.Don’t miss out on the rice burger either! Buns are made of rice patties that are crispy on the outside. Loved the flavor on the burger. So simple but familiar and different all at once.Follow me for more food pics on Instagram @whetyourappetites

Bar Moga is a 1920s inspired Japanese cocktail bar modeled after a Taisho era jazz bar in Japan.⁣⁣---⁣🍳𝐎𝐦𝐮 𝐑𝐢𝐜𝐞 $𝟐𝟐 (𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘯 𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘦, 𝘷𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘮𝘪-𝘨𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘶𝘤𝘦)⁣This was probably the best omurice Ive ever had! Very authentic, just like the ones Ive had in Japan.⁣ The demi-glace was rich with a deep meaty flavour, and the rice was soft without being too wet. ⁣⁣The staff also cuts the omelette table-side with a long sword-knife!⁣⁣🍛𝐆𝐲𝐮𝐭𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐲 $𝟒𝟖 (𝟽𝟾 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘣𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘳𝘺 𝘴𝘢𝘶𝘤𝘦, 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘧 𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘦)⁣This super aromatic curry left me speechless. The stew-like curry was both umami and sweet. With 78 spices you can expect an explosion of flavours. This well executed dish was paired with simmered beef tongue that melts in your mouth!⁣ Truly a must order!⁣

What an amazing Japanese craft cocktail bar! Great for a date night or quiet night out. They have great selection of Japanese whiskeys and delicious cocktails! My favorite one is Kunoichi. Must try even if you are not into craft cocktails. Their mixologist is very knowledgeable, precise and detail oriented; he takes time to make each cocktail but the result is so worth the wait.

Great bar. Good music and cocktails. Katsu sando is delicious. 👌

  • Review 112 (2024-02-08 - Rating: 4)

The Omurice is a great to experience once, but more than that it feels overpriced. The cocktails are awesome too.

  • Review 113 (2018-10-15 - Rating: 5)

We visited Bar Moga for their famous omelet rice and what we found was some of the best made Japanese comfort food weve ever had. Thinking about it more carefully, it should have been obvious given that a place serving perfect omelet rice (its no easy feat to cook a perfect omelet to cut in front of EVERY customer) would also prepare all other dishes at a high level of perfection. The panko batter mixture coating the croquette and the menchi katsu was light and airy. The grilled caesar salad was actually made with a head of lettuce that had been GRILLED. The seafood gratin was full of seafood and not just a bunch of pasta. Theres nothing magical about the food prepped at Bar Moga, and the price is definitely high for the serving portion, but the impeccable quality of food is what really impressed us.

  • Review 114 (2023-11-14 - Rating: 5)

    Awesome vibe. Nice seasonal drinks

  • Review 115 (2021-11-14 - Rating: 5)

Classy spot to impress your date. Bar Moga has a 1920s Japanese-style aesthetic. The cocktails are fancy, the beaded curtains are a nice touch, and that omurice is very instagrammable.I got the Moga and my date got the Princess Mononoke. The latter has Mezcal and is spicy and sweet. The Moga is basically an Old Fashioned but with Japanese whiskey, plum liqueur, and a gorgeous diamond-shaped ice cube. If youre sitting at the bar, you can watch them shave the ice. It is very cool.We also shared an omurice. When it comes out, the server cuts the egg in half and it splits open, covering the rice in warm, silky egg. Japanese comfort food at its finest. We sat at the bar, which was wonderful. But if you want a table, you should probably reserve one in advance.

  • Review 116 (2022-09-24 - Rating: 4)

Really yummy croquettes and drinks! The ambience is cozy and a whiskey heaven. I wish there were more appetizer options that werent sea food. But everything did look good. I ended up having the omu rice dish which was very good but larger than I expected (so come hungry for that dish!).

  • Review 117 (2023-09-04 - Rating: 5)

Brought my husband here as a surprise to eat the Omurice. He loved it and said that the demi glaze set it apart from other Japanese sauces hes had elsewhere. We ordered a couple of drinks including a Roku Gin and Tonic and a Black Manhattan during happy hour, and ended the night with a must-try duck prosciutto, a Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky, and a rice whiskey to end the night. Little did I know that I would be shaking hands and talking to the restaurant owner and having a great conversation around Japanese whiskey and a cocktail they presented at the whiskey convention in Brooklyn. The interior was a nice surprise, and I dont think photos can do it justice. We first sat at a table, and then moved to the bar. The restaurant had consistent traffic when we were there on a Saturday night, and we were glad we were able to make reservations and thrilled to meet the owner who stepped in to help at the bar when the kitchen wasnt so busy. We had such an amazing time. The staff and owner were friendly, courteous, had fun when the customers were having fun, and professional.

I came here with 2 friends on a Wednesday and it was so lively, definitely make a reservation in advance in you can. The atmosphere was really cool and causal. We started with a few drinks, I’m a fan of fruitier/refreshing flavors - so I opted for the neverending summer. My friends got the dancing crane which was also a good one. The espresso martini was strong! For dishes my favorite was the omurice - you must get this if you visit. In order of favorites, the Katsu Sando, Uni Toast and Seafood Gratin was delicious. The only dish we didn’t feel was worth the price is the duck as it didn’t look like the photo in the menu and compared to all the other dishes that were so rich in flavor this was one just didn’t shine.Overall we had a lovely time and can’t wait to come back!!!

  • Review 120 (2022-04-30 - Rating: 4)

During my trip to New York, I was advised to eat here, because my favorite dish (Omu Rice) would be on the menu. Curious, I went looking for the place where, according to some, the best Japanese comfort food was prepared in NY. I was not disappointed! What a great bar with great food. I started with the Kani Cream Croquette with snow crab and tartar sauce. The Omu Rice made me as happy as a child with presents! What a classic dish with that delicious soft omelet that seems to melt over your rice. If you are ever in the area: GO !!

  • Review 122 (2023-01-11 - Rating: 5)

Subtle, refined cocktails with lots of unexpected ingredients. Food is more than just a second thought - the uni toast, katsu sando and omurice are some of the best in the city, as they should be at a Japanese bar.

  • Review 123 (2021-04-04 - Rating: 5)

So relieved that this place remained open since it is one of my absolute favorite spots for Japanese comfort food and cocktails. Choose anything on the menu; you cannot go wrong. One requirement though - if you’re ordering food you MUST get the omurice. It is out of this world. Pictured: Arcade Smash, Otsumami Toast, Hamachi Carpaccio, Curry Doria.

  • Review 124 (2022-05-20 - Rating: 4)

Omurice that is Tokyo-level. Worth the $22.$48 for two slices of beef tongue curry...not so much. Its too bad because that curry roux is actually really tasty.

  • Review 128 (2018-03-06 - Rating: 5)

Many wonderful things are done here. If youre hungry and in for a treat, the Omerice is a great thing to try. For a drink, they have many wonderful things but the Barley Two Ways is really one of those velvet and leather surprises that only happens every once in a great while.

  • Review 129 (2020-09-21 - Rating: 4)

Stopped in for a pre-dinner (elsewhere) cocktail, and was thoroughly impressed by the quality of my drink. It was good enough that I will certainly come back for more, and would anticipate that with the quality of that service and single drink would be enough to bump this up to 5* with a larger sample size.

  • Review 130 (2022-12-28 - Rating: 5)

Great cocktail bar with bartenders that take pride in making some kickass drinks. Phenomenal selection of Japanese whiskeys as well. Great pre or post dinner spot.

  • Review 131 (2023-12-15 - Rating: 5)

Dont know, too sure if the bartender was the owner/chef, but we assumed he was as he educated us wonderfully about each taste of the shochu and got us hooked on it!

  • Review 132 (2019-11-18 - Rating: 5)

My friends and I ordered the uni toast, the omurice and strawberry shortcake. I really loved it. The omurice cutting was nice and theatrical, but more importantly, the taste and texture was absolutely fantastic. The egg was silken and custardy, and the demi glace added that nice salty, meaty oomph. The fried rice underneath had large, distinguishable pieces of chickrn, which I enjoyed (I do like larger chunks). And the uni toast was quite rich as well! A bit pricy on that one, but very salt-creamy and flavorful. The strawberry shortcake had a sear on top that conveyed a rich almost-burnt caramel flavor and an almost hard chewy texture. I really wnjoyed that, though I think one of my friends would have preferred a more traditional shortcake. All in all, a good meal, but definitely get a reservation. It looks fairly popular.

A very good Japanese cocktail bar in Mcdougal street. If you want to experience a plethora of Japanese drinks options, it has it all. The ambience is extremely good and the staff is very polite. We ordered an Alaska, black Manhattan, nevermind midsummer and duality. All of them were very well made.

  • Review 135 (2022-03-20 - Rating: 4)

Nice Japanese cocktail and bites place near the Village that I could see being great for a date. Some nice cocktails utilizing Japanese spirits, though I prefer spirit forward cocktails and both on the menu incorporated earl gray tea - one was nice, two a bit much. The omurice is amazing - from the way the chef slices the omelette over the rice to all the flavors and veal Demi glacé poured over. The katsu sando was also good - pork was tender, I just felt it could’ve used a little more crunch.

  • Review 140 (2024-07-30 - Rating: 5)

Truly a gem in the neighborhood. Bar Moga has a speakeasy maximalist vibe that is accentuated by its cocktails. They have a great rotating menu of seasonal cocktails and staples -- all of which are fantastic and unique. The food here is also amazing. The menu is an elevated version of Japanese streetfood/comfort food thats best for sharing. My personal favorite is the omurice and the katsu sando. If they have the uni toast (it sells out fast) its something you cant miss!

  • Review 144 (2019-02-07 - Rating: 5)

I had gone on a night where there was a limited menu only so I can only speak to those foods I had in my photos... which were all fantastic! The chef cut the omurice right in front of us and it was just so tantalizing watching it. The pork sliders (translated name) is probably also the juiciest pork I have ever had, and I wish I were exaggerating, because I was not ready when I took a bite.

Laid back with a classy atmosphere, and very quiet for a bar! Ive been here a few times over the years and have always had a good time. They generally have jazz playing in the background, and its quiet enough to hold a conversation easily. The food is also very good. The omurice is definitely the star of the show and tends to be the dish that everyone talks about. The most recent omurice we had tasted less savory and a bit more like ketchup than we remembered, although it was still good.Definitely recommended if youre looking for a good date spot!

Nice Japanese whisky selection that has some harder to find options and a variety of flavor profiles. Staff is knowledgeable about the whisky as well. Good snack to go with the drinks. The cocktails are also creative and well done. When I went the bar was busy but the host managed to find space for me and my friend.

Been here a few times for cocktails and it never disappoints. I need to try the food though - I hear great things!

Holy Moga! That was incredible.Nuanced cocktails with bespoke Japanese whiskeys and floral accents that loosen the lips. Perfectly roasted duck, lined with crispy fat that melded with the red-gamey tenderness of four share-able cuts. Crab croquettes that oozed with parmesan contrasted with its flaky panko and chilled tartar sauce. One of the best dining and cocktail experiences Ive had in this city.
