    This is an absolute gem, amazing cocktail bar with a great vibe and a unique high end drink menu. Good music but not too loud so you can have a conversation but still feel relaxed. Will definitely come back to try the food another time. Overall awesome experience.

    Amazing environment, the ambiance is really cozy. Their cocktails are delicious, but I think I lucked out by trying the happy hour cocktails first. I plan to go through most of this list while I live in Harlem. The prices are very high, especially for the area. But, I get it I guess it’s Manhattan still hmmHowever, they automatically include a 20% tip and don’t really tell you that unfortunately. I would have liked to know before hand, because the prices are already quite expensive.I would say it is a really great place to meet a friend or two for cocktails, or for a date with your partner. Please visit this place!Oh yeah their popcorn is amazing 😍

    Where do I begin? This space is extremely sexy and cozy. Dimly lit craft cocktail heaven. We arrived and we’re immediately seated. Staff was helpful and very attentive. We ordered the prosciutto and, shamefully, had two bowls of the popcorn because it was delicious! Staff was helpful in helping us pick out the types of drinks we’d like and was sure to check on us and our agreement with the drink once we had the opportunity to try it.The music compliments the aesthetics which were tastefully done, might I add. They have a large selection of spirits and an amazing mixologist. I definitely will return.

    Beautiful cocktail bar in Harlem. We arrived around 8:45pm on a Saturday evening and the manager accommodated us. Maybe it was luck as someone supposedly just cancelled, however I’m not complaining :) great service and a lovely vibe. Jazz music, beautiful decor. I highly recommend.

    Im so happy I made last minute reservations, this cozy and intimate establishment is located steps from the Loft hotel. Beautifully decorated and with the ambiance to match, this is the perfect spot to have unique and amazing and I do AMAZING cocktails. The hostess was sweet and professional. I highly recommend the Queen of the desert and the Marie Laveau cocktails. The grilled octopus was delicious as was the hummus served with warm pita.

    This place is special. Everything from the furniture, artwork, plates, silverware and glassware to the ice cubes and ringing the doorbell to be welcomed in lends to the lovely feeling that you are a guest more than a patron. And then there’s the cocktails and the food. The cocktails are fantastic not only to drink but to look at as well as watch being made by the bartenders, who are Pros with a capital P. And don’t forget the food. We more than enjoyed the olives and pickles, charcuterie and the hummus. Each plate was a winner. The hummus was so special we asked the charming owner for the ingredients and learned they have two different hummus recipes. The one we enjoyed had harissa in it but they also have one made with beets! when we return, which we will, we will order the hummus again and will be happy no matter which recipe is being served. We topped the experience off with the handmade chocolates!I wish I took more and better photos but better you come and see Sugar Monk for yourself.

    Definitely one of my favorite local spots. The cocktails are very well made! The environment is very friendly and the space is perfect for a date or just grabbing a drink to unwind. Gratuity is included in the bill, but you have the option to adjust that as you see fit.

    This was a truly amazing experience! The cozy atmosphere combined with great bartenders and tasty cocktails will be a memory for a long time. We visited from Vienna, Austria and had a great evening thanks to Lee and her colleagues.

    Cocktails were very well made, service was incredible and waitstaff very attentive. The atmosphere was wonderful. Its a bit pricey, but worth the cost. Our second round of drinks took a long time to arrive as they were forgotten by the staff, but they gave us a share plate on the house to apologize and were very quick to correct the issue once noted. Highly recommend if you like cocktails.

    Kiki was our waitress. But she was beyond amazing in spirit and funny as hell. We had the best drinks and experience here. Being from DC I am happy we are relatively close to NY. But I wish we had something like this back home. If you like creative and enjoyable cocktails in a chilled and hella fun environment, you need to go here!!

    Immediately, Rima, the host, was so attentive and sweet and welcoming and brought us to the best seats at this beautiful bar, Conner was the best! It was my first time here and I absolutely loved the atmosphere, drinks, and the bartenders favorite drink. Kelley is the cocktail waitress and although we were sitting at the bar, she was so fun to talk to and just fun to be around. All around, an incredible atmosphere, and just gorgeous scenery. One of the best places in NYC, hands down.

    Such a gorgeous bar with the most spectacular drinks!! I went with my family on a Monday night and got to hear incredible live jazz! Their food is also delicious if you need a little bite to eat. For drinks we had the Mary Pickford, Clover Club, Bijou, and the outstanding house amaro. I think my favorite was Clover Club but it was very hard to pick!! All were truly divine. The whole staff is also so welcoming and service was amazing. Sugar Monk is such an intimate and beautiful gem!!

    My first experience here was months ago and I didnt know if Id come back, am I everml glad that I did. Tonight was a complete different experience, our server Alex was absolutely amazing, her vibe, her kindness and her general presence was refreshing!     This place is an incredible cocktail bar! 🍸 Sugar Monk in Harlem serves an unbelievable selection of amazingly crafted cocktails🍹 - definitely try the Between the Devil 😈 and the Deep Blue Sea 🌊 cocktail!🥃 Their menu 📃 breakdown each choice and its inspiration and even notes which glass 🍷 it comes in.     Great spot in Harlem for cocktails. I came here with my husband for after dinner drinks and was pleasantly surprised! Their menu is overwhelming but server Kelly was friendly and knowledgeable with helping us navigate it. She even took the time from what looked like a busy Friday night to bring a water bowl for our dog! Great cocktails, and great staff. We can’t wait to go back!

    I stumbled upon this gem while waiting for a show to start at the Apollo. I grabbed a seat at the bar and really enjoyed the ambience. At the bar, you get a front row seat of watching the bartenders craft amazingly thoughtful cocktails. Seriously, Im one to pay attention to detail and there is someserious craftsmanship going on here, beautifully lit brilliance ! I enjoyed the Over the Volcano and was blown away by the depth and complexity of flavor. I will be returning . Great Spot!

    I recently visited Sugar Monk and as always had a wonderful evening. This Harlem spot continues to be NYC’s premier, seductively lush cocktail lounge/salon. Sugar Monk is an atmospheric experience. Every cocktail possesses its own sensation of travel, as diverse as a trip to a Moroccan market or a hike through the Scottish highlands. Also new and delicious tapas have been added to the menu which perfectly compliment the cocktails. But the true magic is the fantastic staff and the sensation of having been transported to a poetically beautiful place. I highly recommend it for a uniquely pleasurable night out.

    Highest customer service I’ve received in a very long time! I can’t recommend this place enough! Came in without a reservation on a Saturday night when there was limited seating and the manager managed to snag us a spot. The drinks menu is superb, the little hummus platter was great. I’ve so missed during covid a beautifully crafted cocktail by a master bartender and we received just that. When we wanted one more drink before our dinner reservation (but could really only drink one more) and were planning on sipping/sharing out of the same vessel, the bartender unprompted split the drink for us and put it in two beautiful glasses with their own garnishes. We felt like we were treated so well and it’s a beautiful spot. We live uptown and will absolutely make Sugar Monk a regular drink place for friendly meetups and dates.

    I read about Ektoras Binikos on The Joy of Mixology and decided to go and try his bar as his approach towards mixology really appealed to me.Went on a Saturday late afternoon around 6pm without reservation and we were able to get two spots at the bar.The atmosphere and decorations calls your attention straight away making me feel more in Europe than in Harlem.I tried their Negroni (which was on happy hour) and a couple of their signature cocktails.Their Negroni was really good however it was their signature cocktails that really surprised me; Ive been to many of the Top 50 world best bars but the cocktails I had at Sugar Monk are probably better than most from those bars: very creative, balanced and for all tastes.Their service is very attentive. Very professional bartenders.So happy I found this place and Im surprised this hasnt have the hype that deserves!

    Best Cocktail bar in NY for me. Had been a fan since their previous place (Second Floor on Clinton) and was very excited when the Monk opened. A visit at Sugar Monk is an artistic experience.     Was there last evening for happy hour. Food and drinks took a little long to come but they were all delicious. Service was good. All nine of us had a good time, including my boyfriend, whose birthday we were celebrating. Giving four stars instead of five because there was a little confusion with the number of guests in my reservation and the fact that I had asked to sit outdoors. Maybe they don’t read the Resy app requests. Also, the outdoor seating area is not really open outdoor as it can be enclosed so if Covid safety is a concern, as it was for us, this may be a no-no. Worthy noting that the host opened another window when I asked him so we could have more air circulating. So yes, I’ll be back there and also recommend.

    This is the best cocktail lounge Ive been to in NYC period (and Ive been to Death & Co., NoMad, Jungle BIrd, Dante, Ramona, Dutch Kills, 67 Orange, Honeywell, etc.). Hands down the best drinks--wether you want a new twist on a classic or something completely bold and fresh. Every single drink is an adventure for the pallet. The food is delicious and exquisite. The ambience beautiful and the service is great. Would highly recommend.

Ordered the grateful matador and I was very happy with my choice, the Palo Santo on the drink was a nice touch. Loved the music too, just great vibes.     Another amazing Harlem cocktail bar in the same manner as 67 Orange Street but with better crowd control and organization, so it never feels overly crowded. Purely by chance I got to meet the owner last night, and I dont think Ive ever met anyone with such wide-ranging knowledge of spirits, particularly the more exotic Italian amaros, in this shows in a style of cocktails they serve. My visit last night focused on seasonal offerings, including a stunning fall whiskey sour, and their special seasonal negroni. The star of the show was the smoked bourbon Manhattan. Theres a small food menu, as well as some surprisingly complex non-alcoholic cocktails. Staff is incredibly friendly and warm, making this feel like a true neighborhood place and not some Instagram destination.

    Beautiful Cocktail bar in Harlem. Came here before hopping on the M60 bus back to Queens after visiting friends in the city. There is a red tent set up outside with electric heaters warming up the cold sidewalk, good selection of music played on a speaker and a eclectic menu. The waiter was super nice and provided great recommendations. The inside of the place is beautiful, maybe after Covid we can enjoy the venue.

The only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars is because of the service. Our server was unfortunately not very kind. I told her I was choosing between a few drinks, and was wondering what she thought of them. She did not seem very happy that I asked, and did not tell me about any of the drinks, leaving me to hurriedly choose one because I felt awkward. At a place like this (20+ dollar cocktails), I think it is important that the staff are willing and able to describe the drinks and provide recommendations if someone asks. Besides that, everything was wonderful.

    This place is an interesting edition to Harlem. The menu is very long and extensive in experimentation of different libations, all cocktails average about 16-18 dollars which is super pricy but it is a spot to start or end your night with one round.     Sugar monk was so good! I didn’t realize it was sort of a speakeasy until we showed up, the drinks were really amazing and our server was personable and polite. We got the truffle popcorn which was also delicious and a valentines special drink and one of the regular menu drinks- both were so amazing. My one complaint is service was slow- we ordered a second round of drinks but had to cancel because they were taking too long and we had other reservations but it was Valentine’s Day so I’m assuming it was busier than normal. Def plan on going again

    We had a little bit of a hard time finding it because it has a discrete door bell on the outside ( felt very cool ) we were greeted at the door by the owner who was so nice he checked our if and our vaccination cards ... he also let us know before we came in that on Monday nights they have theme night and different drinks than the normal menu... we were happy with that! He walked us in and gave us a choice between some bar seats or a cute table . We ordered some truffle popcorn that was so good and a couple of drinks I cant remember the name of the drinks and sadly didnt get any pictures because it was cozy and dark and I didnt want to disturb anyone with a flash ... after our first drinks we decided to get some food too we got hummus and some octopus salad and a cheese plate all was very good ! The atmosphere was really nice they played amazing music I felt like I was in my own private old movie my only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is my second drink came and it tasted completely different than my first drink that was disappointing since I really loved the first one but I will definitely come back again I really loved the atmosphere dont miss this really amazing speakeasy its a gem

    You could say Sugar Monk is pretentious– $20+ drinks, menu organized by categories such as Temptation or Contemplation, very few walk-ins– until you actually go back a second or third time. Their program is sophisticated and consistent. Service is phenomenal. They make their own Amari and Eaux de Liqueurs (?!?!) Sugar Monk is an imaginative and singular gem among many overpriced and indistinct cocktail bars in this city.

    An adorable spot with amazing handcrafted cocktails. The dedication to crafting these amazing drinks is worth watching and also worth the hefty price tag. They have a literal book of drinks to choose from all different and all with infusions I’ve never heard of. Unless you are a mixologist of the same capacity you probably wouldn’t know have of the stuff they mix together but to me that made it more fun. The bartender was very helpful on deciding and explaining. Personally I picked randomly and I was not disappointed. I had a delicious spiced bourbon martini that smelled like Christmas. We also had delicious infused truffles one was champagne the other was tequila and espresso and the last was a Manhattan, yes all truffles and yes all delicious. If you happen to spot it outside the first thing you’ll notice is it’s dark and hidden with a large ornate dark wooden door. Inside it looks like you’re taken a step back in time, dark walls, soft lounge chairs, and beautiful glassware complete the aesthetic. This is an expensive cocktail bar but more importantly it is an excellent cocktail bar. 15/10 must visit

    Visiting NYC- this intimate, romantic lounge was such a find! Every detail from decor to drinks so thoughtful and tasteful... We had the Marie Laveau, layered deliciousness smoked at the table, and the Blue Moon, with an exquisite Japanese plum. Feels local, but met people from all around the world there. Would definitely go back!
