Ive been meaning to check this place out for a while and finally got stop in on valentines day for an early brunch..Food was fresh but limited to a small menu.Maybe it was just brunch but not my kind of options so I stuffed my face with a nice selection of empanadas and shared about a dozen oysters.Oyster were fresh just not much meat and not very well shucked. Drinks were good but I was expecting more from a craft whiskey cocktail. Margaritas were small but some flavs were better then others because of the puree/nectar compared to the juice. Passion fruit wasnt bad but guava was great. Def recommended it .They did a great job of pulling the atmosphere from the indoor dinning to the outdoor seating.Cozy for 2 or 4.Ill have to try the indoor next time since its now available.All in all my kind of place to hang and have some finger food and whiskey.I know oysters change depending on region but the last thing you want is one all sliced up and no meat.. I had high hopes for this to be my new oyster spot since not many places offer them on ditmars. Luckily everything else makes a second trip worth while.

This place is beyond amazing! Drinks are fantastic 😍😍! Service here is top notch! We were seated immediately by Jessica super friendly and helpful! Our server Kathleen was amazing - lots of great suggestions that matched exactly what we we’re looking for. I had the Coffee Martini & My girl had a Hibiscus Ginger usually a mocktail but she spiked it for us Bourbon - so good! Also Lucas the GM was really great to us and made sure everyone around us was well taken care of! 100% coming back and highly recommend their happy hour menu !

Had a late date night here the other day; definitely a great spot for dates, light appetizers and unique cocktails (including warm drinks)! The couches are spacious and the candles set the mood. Staff was also friendly but not too on top of us. Overall good place, if a bit pricey, but worth it.

Out drinking with friends and one of my friends wanted cocktails so we searched it on Google maps and The Last word popped up. This is an amazing place for cocktails. Great drinks at great prices. The team there were super nice and they recommended their favorite cocktails. The last word cocktail was delicious. And for the winter I definitely recommend the Hot Toddy.

Very nice place for a quick meet-up with friends or small bites to catch up. Small sharing plates, and lots of drink options. Service was on point, the atmosphere was mellow and classy, and tasty bites that leave you wanting more to try. Meter parking or side street parking is easily accessible. All the small details internally, lit candles, metallic ceilings, and brick walls gave it a warm and cozy feeling that entices you to return. Cheers!!

I wish I could gatekeep this spot but the bartender was phenomenal. I’ve never had cocktails as exquisite in a while. The bar gives a gothic Gatsby, flapper era vibe. They have a jazz band that plays every Sunday at 6 PM. It was full and the other patrons were friendly too. You can tell a lot about the vibe of the bar by the people they attract. All in all, absolutely would come back again. When I made the reservation through Google, the owner who wasn’t present notified his staff immediately we were arriving. That type of hospitality is rare.

I read the reviews and decided to give this place a try. My husband and I had an amazing time! The place has a warm, cozy, and hip vibe. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and attentive. Lucas, the manager, is everything that reviewers rave about. He gave my husband and I a tour of the place, and we loved it so much that we reserved tables to have his birthday gathering at TLW. The music is the right amount of loud, meaning that we could hear each other talk. Bonus point: this place is 1-2 blocks from the train station!

Great spot for drinks. After the reddit recommendation, we came here on a Friday night. The staff is very nice and accommodating. The oysters were amazing and great choice of cocktails.I’d say it’s more of a date night kind of speak easy. Lights are a bit too bright, and seating areas need to be closer. Otherwise great boutique setup and overall experience.

Have lived a block away from this place for 5 months and only just tried it yesterday.Amazing.Such a cool little speakeasy. Literally thought it was an actual hardware store for the first 2 months we were here. And then I thought it was a hardware store by day and a speakeasy by night..which would have also been cool. Finally realized its just a cocktail bar.The decor is well thought out and the lighting is dim and adds to the prohibition-style character.Cocktail list is extensive. Staff is extremely helpful in helping with drink decisions.The bartenders are talented and focused on streamlining drink after drink professionally. Very cool.We stopped in as we waited for our table @ MP Taverna, so we only had one round. There were no available seats or tables, so we stood across from the bar.Cant wait to go back and try another new, sassy cocktail. And sit in what look like glorious, plush velvet chairs and couches.Youve got to check it out!

3/18/23 Visited again to celebrate my friend Lucy’s birthday. It’s under new Management by Herb who is an incredible person and Manager. He makes sure that you leave happy and satisfied. He appreciates any feedback good or bad to be bought to his attention and does something about it! Our Waitress Lizzie was AMAZING and so sweet she adds a special touch to The Last Word we were very happy with her service.2/21/21 Oh my God I hate this place ! Are you kidding! Ive been here over several iterations of the menu and every time I love it! I love frothy drinks but dont like egg flavour so this place has been amazing with vegan frothy cocktails. The music on the blues night was good but I have not seen the jazz. Overall its a great place to grab a drink with visitors to the area even if theres no live music.

Lovely tucked away Queens gem that can easily stand tall with some of the many great cocktail bars and lounges in Manhattan!The attentive, friendly, quick service, lovely romantic ambiance, and fantastic drinks made this a great experience! Ordered The Last Word, Sanchos Word, TLW Coffee Martini, Butterfly Punch, and the Cocoa Smoke. All were exceptional! In addition, the drinks were priced much lower than the $18-$20+ price point at many establishments in Manhattan! Great value and great time. Will be back!

My only regret is not snapping any pictures which I will make sure to do on my next visit. The interior design is perfection. We sat at the bar and were graced with mixologists dazzling us with their cocktail making skills. The oysters were scrumpalicious(not a word but thats what they were). I shouldve went for the dozen instead of half. Hostess was friendly and found us seats quickly(extra thankful). I will definitely be making reservations next time.

Fantastic spot! If theres no line outside, youd probably walk right by it. The inside is very warm and inviting, as well as relaxed. One thing that makes this place great is the fact that they will only allow a certain amount of people in at a time. That way the bartenders can focus on their craft and the atmosphere doesnt get tight and stuffy.Oh yeah, and the cocktails are exceptionally good!!

Great vibe and really nice people! Ended up staying for an extra round of drinks because of how much we were enjoying this spot! Speakeasy vibe and cocktail bar. I got a Irish Joe without whipped cream and it was so good, then I got a coffee martini which was delicious as well. My boyfriend got the apple old fashioned drink and really liked it. It’s on the sweeter side bc of the apple which was a really nice touch. He also got a coffee martini which is just like an espresso martini. Definitely recommend this place! Will definitely be back soon!

We decided to check it out after seeing some great reviews about happy hour here on Reddit. Upon entering the lavish looking establishment, the drinks were cheap and the food was delicious. We ended up with oysters and soft pretzels (probably the best weve had to date.) The girl on staff was on top of our orders and considerate of space, so that we didnt feel rushed or bothered. It was quiet when we went for happy hour during the week, but it is sure to be loud during the weekends. The location looks bougie with musical hits playing in the background.

Great bar for unique cocktails/drinks. Formerly a secret bar but secret no more. Drinks are a bit pricy but strong...so its evens out. Great quality. Appetizers are great as well. The Ambience of the bar was amazing. I really enjoyed the setlist I was playing and the staff of phenomenal. The price is on the higher end. On average one drink is $15 plus tax which I think is a bit pricey but its also because Im broke. The street location of the bar was great too there is a strip of other bars and restaurants so you can bar hop once you finish there. its a great place to chill for a moment with some friends or a date since the atmosphere was great. (If its date itll be one of at least two stops) there is not really a lot of food options on the menu.If you care about clothing attire、I felt that you can wear semi dressy cloths and not feel out of place (a nice dress or a classy party clothing with heels、 or nice boots). I wore Jeans knee high guess boots and a nice top、 I say this because sometimes you can over dress or underdress for a location.

We found this bar in Astoria and we absolutely loved it. The oysters are LEGIT and affordable. Love the ambiance - kind of 20s bar vibe. What it was amazing, though, was the empanadas. A brilliant place with a terrific menu and staff! The ambience is laid-back, yet has a bit of spunk to the vibe. The cocktails off the menu are very well executed, as are the cocktails on the menu--leading to a simple fact that the bartenders are highly skilled and have honed the craft of making cocktails to a high degree. The food menu was subtle, but effective--combining the local Astoria-culture, which is by far, the biggest melting pot within NYC--extremely impressive.I was also very impressed with the overall setup, and the imaginative (hardware store) entrance is fresh (needless to say, a bit deceptive--more the reason why its a cool joint).I highly recommend TLW and the rotating food/cocktail menus mean the proprietors are serious about making this a must-visit spot in the highly competitive cocktail culture in NYC.I wish them the very best of luck and continued success! Cheers for a great time!NEW EDIT-- They changed their menu drastically, but the bartender(s) are still very proficient, so pick your style and they will deliver. Im particularly not impressed with their current cocktail menus, but as an alcoholic and cocktail connoisseur, I felt it was a step down, unfortunately.They have also changed their chique entrance to a more visible appearance--I prefer the appearance hidden behind the hardware store setting better. But, still a great opening--they have made it in to a good serving area. All in all, a great experience!

Came here with my gf. This spot is a gem! Lucas, the owner was there and he and his staff were just amazing. Jade & Daniel were our servers and they were just so on point! The oysters were on point for anyone who loves oysters, and the little bites were great! Great drinks and great music, AND all night happy hour on sundays and tuesdays! Def somewhere you need to visit if you find yourself by steinway! We will def be back.

Speakeasies are always a fun idea, so I was pretty stoked to visit the new one in my neighborhood! The Last Word just requires a ring of the doorbell for entry. Dont be thrown by the late, great, minimized version of the Ditmars staple, Square Hardware storefront. HUGE props to the owners for bringing it back. We passed it and my husband was so excited! Square Hardware is open again?!?! I had to break the sad but still awesome news to him that Ditmars now had its first speakeasy!The ambience is dark and classy - complete with dimmed wall sconces, draping curtains, and plush but posh seating! Black tie not required, cocktail attire recommended, please dont wear flip flops in here 😂It is primarily a cocktail joint, so take your time with the extensive menu of house cocktails to find one that tickles your fancy. If youre in a beer mood, however, their selection of local, complex brews is pretty fantastic.Being a fan of Mezcal, I ordered the Nickel Bag of Funk (mezcal, rum, raspberry, lime, and orange blossom water...which is a thing) and LOVED it. The smokiness of the mezcal balanced out the sweet and sour of the raspberry and lime!My husband ordered the Vagabond (tequila, Aquavit, honey, lime, orange bitters, garnished with sage and a salted rim). We both couldnt get over how much it tasted like a margarita...I guess that just happens when you lightly sweeten tequila with honey, add a dash of citrus essence, and lime juice.After we received our cocktails, the waitress informed us of some bar nibbling options...but there wasnt a menu or prices associated with said nibbles...so we didnt bite. We mainly just came for cocktails and Felt awkward to ask if there even was a menu? 😕 maybe they were free?Fantastic and knowledgable server & bartender topped off our experience in this great, fancy hangout to booze and schmooze in our hood. On a average their delicious cocktails cost $15.. Probably $4 cheaper than Manhattan..Their Cocktails are amazing and if you like whiskey, I would definitely recommend the Lions Tail... The last word drink was my favorite drink of the night out of the four although they were all great. I’ll have to come back and try their food. Great local spot.

I was by myself and hesitant to enter a trendy/cool neighborhood spot at 9pm on a Saturday night. The hostess welcomed me in and showed me two options. you can sit here, a communal table or I have a table in the back. I didnt want to bother the establishment and take up a whole table. I am a low paying customer. Im not going to order more than 1 mocktail. But the hostess insisted I be comfortable.I take the table. Order my drink. Pull out my book and read peacefully amongst the merriment. The tables nearby - dates, celebrations, catching up with friends. Pop music was playing. I kept turning my pages enjoying it too.I was checked up on by the server and the manager. Neither of who ever pressured me to leave and made sure I was comfortable. The hostess from before walked and again I told her, feel free to sit people at my table if its crowded up front. dont you worry. enjoy yourself. she said.I finished my drink, the chapter I was on, and accidentally blew out my candle that was providing me light. It was a sign to pack up and leave. I thanked my serve, paid and headed out.A women, from a table near mine, stopped me before I left. She commended me for doing what I did - enjoy a night to myself. I told her it helped to have a book. I proceed to the exit and saw the manager. I thanked him for not pressuring me. And finally the hostess. She told me I made her night, again for doing what I did - enjoy a night to myself. We shared a hug. And I left having had a great and welcoming night.

The bar has very 1920s jazz elegance to it, with live jazz on Sundays after 7 pm. Definitely a great date night for a drink and listen to music, which isnt too loud so you can still talk to each other comfortably. Drinks are pretty good, cocktails being around $16. Very light bar food so dont come expecting a meal. Just have a nice drink, enjoy the music and the ambiance.

I definitely liked the atmosphere and service. I’m fairly basic when it comes to a drink - prefer a high end vodka with a splash of soda and a lemon, and that’s what I ordered. What I got was a highball glass with way too much soda and a lime. I think the drink was $18. I’ll give the place another try and be more specific about what I want but would expect the bartenders to know this basic standard with an alcohol forward drink like a vodka soda.

I was astounded that this kind of a place can be found in Astoria. I never write reviews but for this place I had to! I had my birthday here with 30 of my family and friends and Lucas the manager went out of his way to make sure we were all genuinely having a good time! Lucas the manager and Jarad the server through out the entire night went up to every single person at my party and made sure they were getting their drinks in a timely manner and that no one had any concerns and accommodated us from start to finish! Lucas is a good friend of mine but aside from that he’s the perfect person to work in this industry and that’s why we continue to come here! Great energy and very hospitable all my friends and family loved him and consider him a friend now as well. Contact him for any events you would like to host here he will not disappoint! We’ll be celebrating another 2 birthdays there this weekend with another 30 of our friends because of him, Thank you Lucas!!

ALL THE STARS! GIVE THIS PLACE ALL THE STARS! The start of an epic night with a great friend began on Monday night. We had planned to meet at THE LAST WORD to grab a drink before dinner with more friends in the city. I arrived at the agreed upon time only to discover the door was locked and the bar is closed on Mondays. As I was patiently waiting for my friend to arrive so we could select another local bar, I hear the locks clicking and the manager(?) Lucas appears. He is there working and sees me outside waiting in the (very slight) cold. I tell him that that we had mistakenly agreed to meet there only to discover it was closed. He immediately says, No problem. Come on in. I cant make all the cocktails, but if youre here for wine, beer or a simple mixed drink, Ill hook you up. Im shocked. Who does this? Ill tell you who: Lucas at THE LAST WORD in Astoria. He made us fantastic tequila cocktails, played our music requests, and was just an all around amazing human. We only had time for one drink before we had to head out for dinner, but we would have stayed all night and Lucas would have let us. We had the entire bar to ourselves, and Lucas just attended to his work while we caught up and had a great conversation. He couldnt run a card but we happily paid in cash. It was one of those things that could only happen in NYC when the stars align. I rarely post reviews, but this was one special night (and the night truly turned out to be epic) and it started with the kindness of a stranger who is now a friend. Lets all try to be more like Lucas. Go see him at THE LAST WORD and tell him that Steve and Alejandro sent you..... but just remember they are closed on Mondays ;-)
