Whole milk iced matcha for $7.5 did the job. Decent seating. Not fantastic lighting. Was a good afternoon pick-me-up and it was not busy.

  • Review 2 (2024-04-10 - Rating: 4)

Cozy spot for coffee lovers in New York City. The ambiance is relaxed and inviting, perfect for catching up with friends or getting some work done. Their coffee is top-notch, with a variety of roasts to choose from, and the baristas are friendly and knowledgeable. It can get crowded during peak hours, i was lucky and Thursday after 3pm was practically empty. Prices are reasonable for the quality you get.

  • Review 3 (2024-12-09 - Rating: 5)

The ambiance is incredibly relaxing and the decor is beautifully done. The coffee here is by far the best in the area. The young guy with long hair wearing a woolly beanie hat is very friendly and welcoming, adding to the overall great experience. Im so glad to have finally found such a fantastic coffee spot in New York. A massive well done!

  • Review 4 (2023-09-06 - Rating: 4)

Stopped in for a latte extra shot. The service was ultra fast and friendly. The atmosphere was just alright, spacious with large table seating area. The coffee was flavorful and delicious.

  • Review 5 (2024-11-03 - Rating: 4)

Its nothing to write home about but its good enough. $6.50 for a vanilla latte felt a bit steep for the size but nothing completely wild. Staff is friendly. Coffee is good. Wasnt too busy. Thats really all Im looking for in a place.

  • Review 6 (2023-09-23 - Rating: 5)

On a wet rainy day this seemed like the appropriately named place for me. It was nice and clean and dry inside, and the service was quick and efficient. It’s rare I get a good cup of black coffee lately, but this one was great. I’ll come back, even on a nice day when I’m not in a bad mood.Paul

  • Review 7 (2018-10-28 - Rating: 5)

I had both latte and matcha latte. Both were delicious with the right amount of silky foam. Our barista was very friendly and he made nice latte art. The place is spacious with 2 communal tables. They sell pastries and cute merchandise with Grumpy face.

  • Review 8 (2024-10-24 - Rating: 5)

Really good coffee and the staff are not grumpy at all!

  • Review 9 (2018-04-21 - Rating: 5)

Great coffee shop that I went to to get some work done. I love that they have large tables where no one bugs you though you stay an hour or two sipping at your latte slowly typing away. They do not have wifi tho- so I tether off my phone. They have different milk substitutes which I appreciate since I don’t drink milk. Try the rose water latte that sounds amazing though I haven’t tried it, in the hour I was there at least half a dozen people tried it. This shop has other shops as well baristas are very friendly and helpful. Stop by to check it out!

  • Review 10 (2020-03-01 - Rating: 5)

Came Sunday at 11 and it was not too busy which is great because earlier in the week I tried at around 6pm and it was busier. There two huge communal tables. Tried one of the seasonals honey oat latte and it was great, earthy flavours. Love the name. Pop in if you are around garner district and midtown area

  • Review 11 (2018-04-19 - Rating: 5)

Hip spot ! Yeah!!!Finally among Starbucks, DD and others I found a nice cozy place to have coffee in midtown!Latte $4.75Delicious, very good taste!Definitely better then “popular” coffee places! The place has two big tables for customers! Serve coffee to stay and to go!Recommended!

Hello, 👋 Cafe Grumpy.Do you like 2 coffee? ☕☕?In the morning 🌅, we had 2 coffee ☕☕ at Cafe Grumpy. It was strong, with fresh aroma, nice. The guy was just as grumpy as cafe Grumpy but nice coffee.

  • Review 13 (2019-03-15 - Rating: 5)

Great coffee and a nice space to sit and drink (and eat). Definitely one of the best flat whites in Manhattan.

  • Review 14 (2018-06-18 - Rating: 4)

I came in here grumpy but I left a happy caffienated man. Its a little expensive and could have better seats but it is a nice place to enjoy a cup of coffee. I got a cold brew and it is basically a nice standard cold brew. My girlfriend got the matcha lemonade and it was a bit too matcha-y. Great service and atmosphere though, the art is cute and the barista let me taste a drink before getting it which was nice as well!

  • Review 15 (2024-10-06 - Rating: 5)

Coffee was great. Server was amazing. Whoever was working at 2pm on 10/6 deserves a raise!

  • Review 16 (2019-06-02 - Rating: 4)

With a name like Café Grumpy, the staff are anything but. I had a delicious lemon loaf and a turmeric latte (hot), a first for me to hear of and try. Both were really good. The cafe supports sustainability by selling reusable straws and giving a small discount on your beverage if you bring your own cup.

  • Review 17 (2017-12-20 - Rating: 4)

Ok, I’m not a coffee drinker but chai lattes are my specialty. I ordered a chai latte with almond milk and a vegan pumpkin spice loaf. The chai latte was not the best Ive had. The spice level was good just different, it was lukewarm I prefer hot but not mouth burning hot! And it was slightly sweetened and I thought could have been a teensy bit sweeter. But not as sweet as Starbucks! As per the pumpkin loaf. It’s was DELICIOUS! It almost made up for the chai. The loaf and chai together was a good pair. I would not have enjoyed the chai alone. The loaf was moist, spiced and perfectly sweetened, and had pumpkin seeds baked in. The employees are patient, friendly and very thorough. The environment is warm and comforting. There are 2 long tables so you will always sit with someone else. If you prefer your own space, there’s no space for that here. If the chai was a little sweeter and warmer I probably would have given Grumpy cafe a 5 star review. But again, I don’t drink coffee so my review may not be relevant to most readers. Enjoy!

  • Review 18 (2023-07-25 - Rating: 5)

I got the iced honey oat milk latte and damn that has to be one of the best lattes I have ever drank in my life. The coffee is very 고소해. Service was fast and the workers were friendly. Amazing music choices. I’m not sure how many outlets there are but there is at least 1. Lighting is on the dimmer side for ambience. Amazing and would come again. Also! The grumpy logo is super cute :)

  • Review 19 (2024-02-19 - Rating: 5)

Quaint coffeeshop with a variety of specialty espresso-based drinks and their house blend coffee. The drip coffee was full bodied with a great milk chocolate flavor and served at the perfect drinking temperature, solid blend. The guy behind the counter was extremely friendly / great service!

  • Review 20 (2023-11-12 - Rating: 5)

Great coffee, pastries and fun souvenirs (mugs and t-shirts) to take home!

  • Review 21 (2018-04-30 - Rating: 5)

Pretty good selection of coffee with unique blend like Rose latte. It was incredible ! Tiny space in heart of times square, must visit for coffee lovers

  • Review 22 (2019-04-16 - Rating: 5)

Utilitarian feeling cafe - with great coffee - all the big chains nearby were packed but this was quiet with places to sit. I really loved it.

  • Review 23 (2019-06-05 - Rating: 5)

Exceptional cortado! I was there on a Wednesday morning, so it was a little crowded, and had to wait a while until I was able to order/get my coffee, but it was totally worth it!

  • Review 24 (2017-02-05 - Rating: 5)

Small quaint coffee shop in the heart of NYC. A nice place to relax and take a break...they have a no laptop policy...

  • Review 25 (2023-08-26 - Rating: 5)

This place has some great, consistent coffee. I always get black coffee, and its always rich, bold, and smooth. Ive had some morning pastries, and you cannot go wrong with any of them.

  • Review 26 (2024-04-22 - Rating: 5)

No grumps at this Cafe Grumpy location! Just a simple, clean cafe with friendly service and great coffee. 5 stars for my oat milk flat white (with latte art resembling Pac-Man 😄) and 4 for the almond croissant. I visited late morning on a Friday and had no problem finding a seat.

  • Review 27 (2024-12-19 - Rating: 4)

Chai was pretty good. Restroom available. Good place to work except...No Wi-Fi.

  • Review 28 (2020-01-17 - Rating: 5)

The best coffee place in all of NYC. Their regular coffee is amazing. The staff are professionals. I loved this location in midtown because the coffee options are immense but lack quality. The standard of grumpy coffee is very high. I also love their honey oat latte. Super delicious. I believe the Japanese rate Grumpy coffee as some of the best in world and I agree. There is a decent amount of seating here and a bathroom. The wait can be a little on the long side if its very busy so just know you may have to wait during peak times but its worth it for amazing coffee.

  • Review 29 (2022-12-28 - Rating: 5)

This place was great. Both drinks we had were yummy and flavorful! Great view as well.

  • Review 30 (2024-03-20 - Rating: 4)

Café Grumpy - Fashion District is a nice, quiet spot. I was in search of a good cappuccino and stumbled upon this place due to its positive reviews, so I decided to give it a try. I first inquired about the size of the cups they use for small cappuccinos. The barista showed me an 8-ounce paper cup, but I preferred a ceramic cup, which appeared to be larger than 8 ounces. However, the barista insisted it was an 8-ounce cup. I ordered the cappuccino anyway, but I felt there was too much milk in it. I still believe it was served in a 12-ounce cup, not 8. Putting a single shot in a larger cup results in more of a milk-based drink rather than a proper cappuccino. If the cappuccino had been served in a smaller cup, it would have tasted much better. Nonetheless, the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is pleasant. There are two large communal tables, so youll be sharing your table space with others. If you prefer having a small table to yourself, this may not be the place for you.

  • Review 31 (2019-03-23 - Rating: 5)

Staff are really friendly and the coffee and pastries are delicious! Love the name also 😁

  • Review 32 (2022-01-20 - Rating: 4)

The coffee especially the cappuccino was so good, but the place is so small and not exciting to stay and drink there.

  • Review 33 (2023-07-01 - Rating: 5)

Quality and cozy coffee shop in a tourist area, one of the few

  • Review 34 (2017-10-18 - Rating: 5)

Close to the best coffee in NYC...and special mention to Jerry definitely the best barista in NYC

  • Review 35 (2019-04-30 - Rating: 4)

I walked in because of the great name for a cafe! They also have standout choices on their seasonal menu. I got the cardamom rose Latte, and it had herbally flowery notes that I really enjoyed. The staff are friendly and smiley and totally not grumpy at all! 😄

  • Review 36 (2016-04-06 - Rating: 5)

Great specialty coffees. Look no further for that elusive flat white. Very pleasant cafe with great music and comfortable feel. Not much seating space though. Laptops discouraged though, presumably to keep customers from taking too long in their very limited seating.

  • Review 37 (2023-10-25 - Rating: 5)

First decent flat white in NYC! I had a taste already before i added this review. Friendly staff and chilled surroundings.

  • Review 38 (2019-12-24 - Rating: 5)

Cozy place and nice barista!Good coffee and bread!

  • Review 39 (2021-12-07 - Rating: 5)

Andrew was the best part! He was so sweet the entire time, and gave the perfect drink recommendation. I’m in town with my friend checking out all the sights, and he was so patient with our questions. Such a great customer experience!

  • Review 40 (2019-11-17 - Rating: 5)

Just tried flat white only today, it was very tasty. Want to visit everyday for seasonal and other single origin.

  • Review 41 (2019-04-19 - Rating: 5)

Best coffee in NY! They have different seasonal coffees. Try the 🌹 rosebud latte for fun, really floral taste. Some gluten free cakes as well. The lemon cake with glace is good.

  • Review 42 (2024-08-19 - Rating: 5)

Terrific cafe with great coffee, and charismatic staff. Albert is so much fun!

  • Review 43 (2019-02-26 - Rating: 4)

Café Grumpy may have risen to fame from Girls, but the great coffee there stands on its own. The space is fairly large for a small specialty shop, and you can actually stand and wait for a drink without truly being in anyones way which is unique for specialty cafes in the area. Technically representing Brooklyn, its a great representation of a flavor forward brew that doesnt skimp on the frothed milk, giving it almost a sweet flavor. I definitely wasnt grumpy after a double shot after a long bus ride.

  • Review 44 (2014-08-15 - Rating: 4)

Crowded but ultimately good. Nice btw office and happy hour vibe. I got the la Esperanza pour over and the lemon bunt cake. Bunt was not so great a little stale for the price. Coffee was so so. Chocolaty but seemed like a few grounds got through so have it a sludgy feel. It seems a little too hip for this area.

  • Review 45 (2016-08-20 - Rating: 5)

Calm, relaxed, open space with absolutely fantastic coffee. I had an iced cold brew and wished I hadnt added any cream, it was so good. Two large communal tables, not much in the way of outlets. Now we want to go on the 7-Grumpy Quest!

  • Review 46 (2017-01-09 - Rating: 5)

Best coffee Ive found on my holiday in NYC. Owner is apparently an Aussie which means good coffee standards. Well made but a tad on the expensive side. Also I love the logo, good for a laugh in the morning.

  • Review 47 (2018-05-22 - Rating: 5)

I really enjoy their cold Brew and drip. They have a great selection of baked goods and the staff is pretty on top of it. Ive been coming here for over three years now and have yet gotten my name spelled wrong on a coffee cup or received the wrong order.

  • Review 48 (2019-10-29 - Rating: 5)

One of my favorite coffee spots in Midtown. I especially love their seasonal flavors like the Honey Oat Milk Latte! Cozy place, nice people, amazing coffee

  • Review 49 (2018-05-05 - Rating: 4)

Their matcha lemonade is both delightful in hue and in flavor.

  • Review 50 (2019-07-02 - Rating: 5)

Very small place for sitdowns but the staff and drinks are superb. The straws are biodegradable!

  • Review 51 (2023-03-12 - Rating: 5)

Great for unplugging from life. That being said no recharging areas. So get your work done somewhere else. Had like 4 different drinks. All delicious and on point.

  • Review 52 (2017-11-11 - Rating: 4)

11.10.17 - Very popular spot and super friendly and organized staff. When it gets crowded they will work down the line systematically to help expedite orders.

  • Review 53 (2023-07-12 - Rating: 5)

    Really yummy and beautiful latte!

  • Review 54 (2019-05-02 - Rating: 5)

As of May 5th 2019 they have a seasonal Orange Mocha thats just calming. Usually fruity combo drinks are kinda overpowered or dont taste quite right but this one is perfect. The orange is subtle, noticeable, but not overpowering.

  • Review 55 (2022-03-30 - Rating: 5)

Our favorite coffee shop has moved. No longer in Chelsea but bit closer now that this location is in the fashion districtOnce again great coffees and noshes.

  • Review 56 (2019-12-28 - Rating: 5)

Cute little place. Two large tables with many chairs instead of more individual seating. Coffee was great and the barista was super friendly.

  • Review 57 (2015-12-18 - Rating: 5)

They are up there on the list of the best espresso in the city. A decent choice of pastries to choose from as well (lots of vegan and gluten free treats).

  • Review 58 (2019-11-16 - Rating: 5)

Stopped in for a cold brew and hot coffee ($9 total) and loved it. Cool place to hang out. The guy working behind the counter was very nice, too.

  • Review 59 (2015-01-18 - Rating: 5)

Quaint little place for those craving something non-Starbucks in NY. I can only speak to the flat-white I had, which was excellent. Friend who had the almond croissant here said its a must.

  • Review 60 (2022-09-12 - Rating: 5)

Great place for coffee, got to love grumpy

  • Review 61 (2017-11-06 - Rating: 5)

Out of all the other nearby café, this is the one I frequent daily and buy whole beans from on a biweekly basis. Other ones are Blue Bottle and Culture Espresso.Their beans are roasted in Brooklyn and in stock 3-5 days after roast date, which is within the optimal window for good espresso.Their staff is friendly, helpful, and know the minutiae in what makes great espresso.

  • Review 62 (2023-01-16 - Rating: 5)

Nice cozy cafe which serves pretty good coffee. Their merchandise is also unique and cute.

  • Review 63 (2016-07-20 - Rating: 5)

Excellent coffee, espresso and beans. Talented baristas. I am very happy with their ban on laptops, which creates a nice intimate and laid back atmosphere. I wish more places would do this.

  • Review 64 (2017-05-05 - Rating: 4)

Good coffees, drinks and pastries. The offerings are a little pricey, but the friendly staff make a visit worthwhile.

  • Review 65 (2018-11-26 - Rating: 5)

It was about 9am Monday and not a soul in the shop, we got instant help. Mocha was good, my daughters iced mocha was good, and my wife got a matcha she enjoyed! Far better than Starbucks and the grumpy face logo is fun and adorable!

  • Review 86 (2018-08-22 - Rating: 5)

Café Grumpy on 39th Street is probably one of my favorite coffee shops around NYC. I used to live nearby around Bryant Park, and having Grumpy as an option was really great. The space itself is really cool, spacious and stylish – great for sitting with your friend over a cup of coffee. The coffee itself is Good+ and the cookies are awesome (especially the vegan chocolate chip cookies). Some tips:1. There is no WiFi or power sockets if I remember correctly, meaning dont plan on working online there.2. If they have the vegan chocolate chip cookies - dont hesistate!

  • Review 87 (2015-05-09 - Rating: 5)

Great Atmosphere!I found Kinda Good Coffee by accident last week. I was on my way to work and saw it out of the corner of my eye. It piqued my interest and so I figured I’d stop by. I swerved across Main Street like a drunk driver and hastily pulled into a corner space. I speed walked to the entrance like someone with indigestion on the way to the bathroom. As I opened the door, a little bell the size of a munchkin rang cheerily. I took a glance at the menu and figured it was adequate. The tables were old and rickety, and the brick walls were as dusty as your grandmother’s attic. I walked up to the counter to order and the grimy cashier looked at me like I had just eaten the last donut or something. I asked for a medium coffee with cream and sugar. She grunted like a boar and turned around, hollering something to one of the workers in the back. She swiveled back around and stared at me menacingly, like a tiger stalking its prey. I backed off and sat in one of the chairs (which felt about as stable as sitting on a pile of bones). The cashier yelled my name, rousing me from my stupor. Overall, a great spot! You really can’t get much better in the big apple!

The coffee was amazing, but Andrew, the barista, was hands down the best part! Recommended a great drink, made it to perfection and was super knowledgeable about the city to help a couple curious tourists. Thanks again, Andrew!

Went here on a Sunday morning. It was busy, but everybody was pretty quiet.

  • Review 145 (2019-11-21 - Rating: 5)

Very retro chic coffee shop with long tables and benches. Its very inviting and the coffee is good as well. I would recommend this for catching up with friends or for a quick meeting with a client.

  • Review 146 (2016-01-30 - Rating: 4)

No laptops allowed. Stuffy attitude but good coffee.

  • Review 147 (2017-01-21 - Rating: 4)

Cute but very small! Good pastries.

  • Review 148 (2014-11-19 - Rating: 4)

Super cute cafe close to Midtown/Times Square. Definitely had the best artisan coffee in the area individually prepared. There are pops of orange everywhere to make this spot feel unique. I love the orange espresso machine, too! Try the Flat White if you want more than a Macchiato but less than a Latte. Its a nice in-between!

  • Review 149 (2022-03-25 - Rating: 5)

Strongest coffee I hav3 ever had...on the fifth day of a five day show run...I couldnt be grumpy after having one of their drip brews...delicious

  • Review 150 (2016-03-24 - Rating: 4)

Convenient Midtown location, the staff here moves quickly on weekdays to accommodate those on their way to work. The coffee is great. No laptop use allowed here, but they have large communal tables so its a great place to meet friends. They have rotating art installations featuring local artists. They now carry Sans gluten-free baked goods, the brownie and the banana bread are delicious!

  • Review 151 (2019-08-15 - Rating: 5)

Highest quality roasted locally. Excellent service.

  • Review 152 (2019-09-25 - Rating: 5)

Cozy, small place just enough for some quick bite or breakfast. They served one of the best coffee in the area, their cakes are the best too! Superb team! Good work!

Great place for Aussies looking for a good coffee

  • Review 155 (2019-11-04 - Rating: 5)

Good coffee, standard variety of drinks and pastries for an artisinal shop. Ive been in here a number of times and found the staff to be especially friendly and relaxed. The space is small, but there are always people working at laptops or reading. Super super strong espresso!

  • Review 156 (2017-08-26 - Rating: 5)

Filtered water makes a real differenc in coffee enjoyment

  • Review 157 (2017-03-19 - Rating: 4)

Good coffee shop, excellent espresso. Very smooth finish and moderate taste. The coffee was strong but not bitter as well. Overall great place, but very little seating, hence the reason for the 4-star review. Would definitely recommend.

  • Review 158 (2017-11-29 - Rating: 4)

Coffee is good, but not top. Staff seamed friendly and the location is great. Came here in the morning 8am and it wasnt packed or anything and they serve coffee with extreme latte art. Will give a go to other parts of the chain around. $4/£3 for flat white is pricey but hey, they are on top of the Google search when looking for hipster coffee in NYC.

  • Review 159 (2018-04-29 - Rating: 5)

Specialty pour over was awesome, so much flavor.

  • Review 160 (2019-02-10 - Rating: 4)

Cute place with pastries and coffee. The coffee is kind of expensive in comparison - $5 for a regular sized decaf black, $4.50 for a regular cappacino. The staff is nice. It gets pretty busy throughout the day and you gotta wait for seating to become available. The vibe is nice though.

  • Review 161 (2016-12-27 - Rating: 4)

No laptop cefe. relaxed small nice cafe

  • Review 162 (2016-02-11 - Rating: 5)

Once of the best espresso and cappuccino I have had in New York. A bit expensive but its worth it. The decor is nice, great for a quick breakfast. Also the croissants are good and fresh.Overall, a great experience.

  • Review 165 (2018-09-26 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 166 (2018-02-06 - Rating: 5)

Good cup, great service and fun snacks

  • Review 167 (2015-07-08 - Rating: 5)

The flat white was really good. I like to search around for coffee shops that use good roasted beans and Cafe Grumpy did not disappoint. I also had a Coconut Macaroon Cookie Sandwich with chocolate filling - it was amazing!

  • Review 168 (2018-08-13 - Rating: 4)

Café Grumpy was overall a pleasurable experience. It has a warm, cozy vibe and a minimalistic, yet home-y aesthetic. The service is quick, and there is plenty of available seating that offers abundant opportunity for people-watching out the window. It offers a good atmosphere for intimate conversations with friends, or if you’re a loner - a quiet place to muse, read, and enjoy a cup of coffee. I ordered a chai latte and sea salt chocolate chip cookie. Both were good, though not outstanding, and the chai latte I found to be lacking in some flavor. However, I would recommend this place; you will not leave it feeling grumpy.
