Great, great coffee at The Commons Chelsea!I always love to swing by when I am in the area for an excellent espresso. It is a small but well-curated location, and the staff is always super friendly and smiley. -

The Commons low key sells my favorite BEC in the city, which has a soft and tender scramble, solid bacon, some chili flakes for background heat and flavor, and served on a roll. Would be the first place I take a visitor for a BEC. -

Needed coffee in the morning and gave this place a try. I got an iced americano and I love the beans they are using! It’s just my style, I’m not a big fan of the sour coffee, but their coffee is more on the bitter and bold side which I love! I’ll definitely be coming back! -

I go here relatively frequently for their delicious breakfast burritos, and also the quality and taste of their cappucinos, which is among the best in the area. Lots of regulars coming in and out.Differentiator: has more breakfast/lunch items (besides pastries) than many nearby coffee places that also have excellent espresso drinks. Also, the outdoor seating is a plus as well. -
Review 5 (2024-03-27 - Rating: 4)
Pretty good food and service. Nice iced tea, too. I met someone here for a business meeting and it was honestly not great for that. Seating limited to 4-5 small outdoor tables including 2 tables in a street parking takeover shed. Cute counter service with friendly staff (nice, rare in these parts). We were lucky to score one of the tables in the shed and that the weather was nice; otherwise, it wouldnt have worked at all. More of a takeout breakfast and lunch spot with good beverages. A decent option if you live or work in the area but definitely not a destination. -

The sweetest neighborhood spot. Been around forever, and the staff is always so kind. Shout out toMark, who let me sneak in as he was about to close up for an end of day treat for my son. -
Review 7 (2024-09-21 - Rating: 4)
Best egg sandwich ever . I would have given a five but they stopped using real cups and serving coffee only on paper cups and I stopped going everyday -
Review 8 (2017-05-20 - Rating: 4)
Great little local business that serve good coffee and a tasty selection of bfast to stay and on the go -
Review 9 (2018-07-21 - Rating: 4)
Small local place, where you can grab a sandwich or coffee. Friendly staff.A sign on the door says that no laptops or tablets are allowed after lunch time. -
Review 10 (2024-04-17 - Rating: 5)
Not usually a wrap person but the chicken Caesar wrap is so good! Really filling, amazing croutons and kale and dressing. Also got a matcha and sat outside. They have 4-5 tables for outdoor and no laptops after 12pm on weekdays. -
Review 11 (2018-05-11 - Rating: 5)
Amazing avocado toast. Place gets busy, limited seating. Good la colombe coffee -
Review 12 (2021-04-29 - Rating: 5)
I love this place and regularly come here for my morning coffee. If you dont stop by for some morning pick me up, you are missing out. I would highly recommend the egg and cheese as well. It is perfect. Also, I love the fact that it is locally owned is great. You could go to big coffee, or you can support Sam who happens to live upstairs (I think?)Their jams are always on point too. So if you need some more great coffeehouse chill jams, swing by. -
Review 13 (2023-07-17 - Rating: 5)
Great location and decent prices. Staff are really nice. BLT sandwich could be better though. The coffee is great! -
Review 14 (2023-04-22 - Rating: 4)
Simple egg sandwich options, well and quickly made, by a friendly guy at the counter. Tasty cappuccino. No fuss chill sidewalk atmosphere to eat, rest, and people watch. Exactly what I needed thanks! -
Review 15 (2013-07-08 - Rating: 5)
Great place for breakfast. Only 6 tables available so no large groups. Food is great-- come here often for the egg sandwich. Service is very personal & staff is very nice. Wine list is well selected. Definitely recommend this small establishment. A gem in the heart of Chelsea. The coffee & croissants are very fresh. -
Review 16 (2018-07-28 - Rating: 5)
This is my local coffee shop and I love it! My GF and I come by for our morning brews almost daily. They have Oat milk and delicious breakfast sandwiches and the potatos are next level (but they keep selling out)!! -
Review 17 (2014-05-14 - Rating: 4)
Nice coffee. Nice boys. Nice bench outside. Theres very little not to like, really, in this tiny little outpost. I think the food feels a tad expensive, but it feels well prepared with nice ingredients, and they seem to know what my brain feels like eating. -
Review 18 (2023-07-25 - Rating: 5)
The best local spot for coffee! Always friendly, always nice, they treat you like family , and the coffee/teas are amazing ♥️🤸🏾♀️ -
Review 19 (2017-11-23 - Rating: 4)
Fantastic space stuffed to the gills with board games, card games, and any type of game you might fancy. Really well curated selection of Euro games, from the Catan and Dominion to Powergrid to some smaller titles, too.If youre a Magic: The Gathering player, there are drafts and release events. But Id classify The Commons as much more of a board game LGS than an MTG oriented one.Space is at a premium given its Greenwich Village location, so finding a seat may not be in the cards. But the space they have is utilized well.Coffee is very good. Good tea selection. Snacks and pastries arent much to offer, so if you plan on digging in for a long game session, youre kinda outta luck on caloric options. -

THE COUPLE•Brunch hard or go home💪🏼😋❤️•THE COOKBOOK•Egg Sandwich - scrambled eggs, white cheddar & chili flake served on a brioche bun, topped with bacon and avocado.Tortilla Hash - egg, potato, rosemary, white cheddar and avocado•THE CHEF•“Local New Yorkers tend to look for Mom and Pop places, you know, something unique. When we opened The Common’s back in 2011 there was nothing like it in Chelsea. It all started with just 4 neighborhood friends who shared the same love for great food. We came up with the concept of a neighborhood spot, a place where youd want to hang out. A place that served really good coffee and delicious food, while using the best ingredients. With time the idea blossomed into the concept of an “all-day café”. The Common’s was the name of our high school cafeteria, a place where we used to mingle and hang out and therefore the perfect name for our café..Working as a team of four business partners can be quite challenging and is definitely an experience in its own. There are moments where we disagree, but everyone has their own role, their specialty, their defined job within the business. That’s how we are able to work successfully as a team. We constantly check in on each other, while maintaining respect towards one anothers field of responsibilities and expertise. Its important that we look at things from different angles, so we definitely promote open dialogue. Generally, I try to see feedback in a constructive way, try to see it from an outside perspective in order to improve and grow..Now that weve opened our second restaurant Motel Morris successfully, our next goal is to change things up a little bit at the Commons, kind of like a facelift‘. It’s like being in a relationship, if you do the same things for several years, in the beginning it’s great and exciting, but after six or seven years it might not be as exciting any longer. The Common’s is a great brand, it’s our brand and we are proud of it. We want to keep our brand, but bring in some new ideas in order to keep it as the place you want to go to, hang out and enjoy a solid cup of coffee and a great meal.” ~ Sam (Co-Owner of the @commonschelsea) -

Review 24 (2015-12-30 - Rating: 4)
This cosy gem has an eclectic menu of healthy (and not) comfort foods. I highly recommend trying the chicken and avacado sandwich with the carrots with goat cheese as a side. -
Review 25 (2016-03-08 - Rating: 4)
Very cute little place. Reasonable prices for the area and tasty basic food. Its pretty tight in there - not many seats. -
Review 26 (2024-03-14 - Rating: 4)
The food was excellent but I was hoping for freshly roasted coffee beans from a local or small roaster rather than a massive company (La Colombe.) I didnt end up getting a coffee since I was there specifically thinking Id be getting some quality beans but ended up just getting food instead. There are a half dozen coffee shops in the area serving quality beans, though if youre in the area and just want a quick cup of coffee with some breakfast, this certainly beats a bodega. -
Review 27 (2024-03-17 - Rating: 4)
Great coffee! Food menu is limited but the avocado toast is tasty, and the service is super friendly. Seating is limited and not much atmosphere so I’d only come back for a take-away -

The Commons Chelsea is a superb little hole in the wall that you’d be lucky to find. The staff is welcoming and friendly, the coffee hits the spot, and the egg sandwiches are top notch. It’s my favorite place to go have coffee and read a good book. -
Review 48 (2017-04-21 - Rating: 5)
Amazing food. Its so tiny in there, its so surprising they can make such delicious food back there. The coffee is great and the baristas are super friendly. I REALLY wish they would expand the place because it can get a little cramped and uncomfortable when your waiting for an order but its still one of my favorite places. Truly a little gem in Chelsea NY. -
Review 49 (2017-12-30 - Rating: 5)

Review 50 (2012-01-28 - Rating: 5)
Walked into the unassuming store front today and was blown away by this little neighborhood cafe. Tried the pork sandwich, after seeing another tables delicious plate, and was blown away. Washed that down with some blood orange iced tea and left a new man. Great attention to detail gives this spot a hip cozy atmosphere. I heard I need to try the coffee and hot chocolate so Ill be back. -

Their chicken sandwich is pretty good. They dont have ingredients or descriptions on their chalkboard, but you can find that on their website. There isnt much seating. I was able to get a seat at 3 pm, but the place might be packed at peak times. -
Review 57 (2013-06-05 - Rating: 5)
I have been eating there since the week they opened. A year and a half later, they just expanded their hours and are serving a delicious dinner menu, complete with wine and beer.Best coffee in the neighborhood, gourmet salads and soups, great sandwiches. Everyone there is extremely friendly and talkative, and very good at remembering the usual. Simple and clean decor, great vibe. -
Review 58 (2014-08-08 - Rating: 4)
This spot is so small that its not a great place to get work done. Theres so little room I feel guilty taking up space for hours at a time. But as a space to meet up, hang for a little while, or even just work for a short period its quite nice. And if there are no other people there I feel less guilty. Im not a coffee person so I tried the hot cider. Quite delicious! The staff has always been friendly to me even when I stayed til closing working. There are few outlets, so dont expect to nab one unless the place is empty. The food is a wee expensive, but not out of the way for the area. And theres little to choose from within a few blocks of here if youre looking for intimate and cozy.I come here when Im in the area, though never go out of my way. -
Review 59 (2014-08-01 - Rating: 4)
This place is a great hole in the wall that is surprisingly awesome. There isnt a ton of seating, but they have great coffee (and Almond milk) and my favorite thing on the menu is their egg sandwich which is spicy and you can add avocado and get it on an everything bagel if you arent in the mood for a croissant. -
