My favorite jazz club in NYC — and that’s a high bar!I love how small and intimate this place is. It really feels like you are in the band, not in the audience. Acoustics are great and I like the fact that they don’t serve food — fewer distractions, clinking noises, and people chewing through the performance.Every evening I’ve been here the music has been fantastic. Yes, they do rush you to get out after the 1-hour mark, but this is what you have to do to survive as a tiny jazz club in NYC. I am totally fine with it.Will be back soon!

Really enjoyed catching Melissa Stylianou Quartet last night at Mezzrow. Great musicians, awesome classic cocktails, and everyone is super nice and accommodating.It’s a very small intimate place, so make sure to get there early to snag a seat, and advanced tickets are advised. That said, the ambiance is chic yet very welcoming.My only one commentary is less reflective of Mezzrow and more reflective of the decency of humanity. You’re told when you sit down that the front area is reserved for listening not yapping. If you’re looking for the kind of performance you can talk through, this isn’t it. You WILL annoy people and you WILL get addressed and reprimanded by the staff (for good reason). So please, be a thoughtful person and respect the music and those around you, and you’ll have a great time!

If you want to be up close and personal with jazz mucisians, Mezzrow is the place to be. This also means that youll be a lot closer to the other customers than usual, so youll need to be prepared for that. Its small, cozy, and intimate. Service is quick, and drink prices are pretty standard. Nothing exorbitant. Get your tickets in advance to avoid disappointment if its full. I like that its tucked away in the basement and dicreet with not much signage, which gives it a very unique vibe. Its definitely worth a visit if youre jazz bar hopping in the neighborhood.

Very cool jazz venue, so glad I got to witness this performance! I went on Thurs Dec 29. We couldnt get too close to the performance area, but the music is amplified throughout the venue and we could still get a glimpse of the pianist and bassist. Youll need reservations if you want a seat. The bar made great cocktails too, if that helps you to know :) but you go for the music and to overhear amazing musicians exchanging perspectives and stories. Cant wait to go back!

We had an amazing experience there!The place is small, which gives a very nice and authentic vide to the place. However, for that reason be sure to reserve your spots in advance. You could do it on the internet, this is how we reserved, and we were seated just near the musicians :).Strongly recommend!!

Went for a jazz trio event. I purchased tickets online in advance. Before and during the show, you can order drinks. The drinks were good, pricing is a little high. The atmosphere is well decorated but flat due to low ceiling. I like to believe it helps for the sound. There are not many places to sit, so reservation is crucial for specific events.

5 Stars Jazz Club!. Since it originally opened, I have been here quite a bit; I should definitely come here more frequently! The room with the Village Vanguard, Zinc and Smalls, is, without a doubt, my favorite. Its cozy and intimate, and it hosts fantastic concerts every night featuring legendary jazz artists like Pasquale Grasso, Geoffrey Keezer, Peter Bernstein, and John Patittuci!

I chose to visit Mezzrow after deliberating over several places and we cannot stress how amazing of an experience it is to come here. It’s so good that I’m writing this review nine minutes before the next set. We chose the 7:30 show with Benny Green and couldn’t help but stay for the following set at 9:00. The venue itself is superb with excellent and friendly customer service. Many thanks to the worker who arranged the seating. The view was surreal. We will surely be coming back for more, the next time we’re in town.

Someone give the MC a raise please. He’s courteous and accommodating. No matter the artists, the MC is always on point the best. 2 elderly ladies traveling from Milano, Italy had walked all day from Brooklyn to the village and were first ones in line. However upon inspecting their tickets the MC realized they were booked for previous evening and had missed the show date. However he accommodated them at the bar and this shows to tourists that New Yorker maybe cut and dry, yet most fair and kind at heart.

Such a cool, authentic jazz club in NYCs West Village. We went to see the amazing Samara Joy and it was a spectacular evening. The club is very small and intimate. Its not expensive ($35 pp) and they also only have a one drink minimum. I will definitely be back. They currently require proof of vaccine but as of October 2021, mask are not required although about a third of the people (generally older) were wearing them.

I planned to see a comedy show, but it was sold out. Luckily, I found this jazz bar on my list, and it was close by, so I decided to give it a try. I walked in and got a discounted ticket, even though there was no guarantee of a front-row seat. They still managed to find me a spot! This was my first time experiencing live jazz, and it was an absolute blast!

Great music. Saw Dave Kikoski and Rick Rosato as a walk in. Make sure you get there early if you don’t have a reservation. Lots of good community and conversations to be had. Just don’t talk during the show, there are some noisy disrespectful people but if you’re sitting in the front it shouldn’t be an issue. Prices range from 25 up for a show typically. And for some of the best jazz in the world, this couldn’t be more reasonable.

Fun, cozy, intimate setting for great jazz music. For menu seekers: The drinks list is very good, and reasonably-priced, but if youre looking for dinner, eat somewhere else first. There are a few snacks available, but no food menu as such. There is a one-drink required minimum, which can be juices or water or soda. Its a great place to hear music up close, but get there early (30-45 min.) to get a close table!

Lovely sister jazz club to Smalls. You head down the stairs and arrive at a lovely speakeasy-esque bar with odes to previous jazz musicians who have played here all around you. It is a $20 entry fee but usually $10 for students and musicians. Best jazz club in the village!

Our first Jazz bar experience in NY!! Although we didnt a reserve a table beforehand, fortunately we managed to sit in the alley as we reached early. The ambience was soothing in terms of lighting and music. But was full on Saturday evening, each show was for 1.5hrs, table was $50 for two people, drinks were good but a bit pricey. If you could reserve a table then you will sit infront of the performers watching them live, otherwise soothe yourself just listening while enjoying your drinks. The bar was at the basement, had a steep staircase to go down and a narrow passage to go to main area where the musicians were performing. I liked the piano and cello combination more over the drums. Overall good experience. Only drawback is that the passage was too narrow to accommodate sitting arrangements on both sides while the servers running table to table with drinks!!

This review is overdue, but I had a nigh on spiritual experience in this cozy little basement in the West Village a while back and if I help even one other person feel the same, it will have been worth writing.Like many, I find myself when I get lost in New York. After plans for a long weekend in the city with friends fell through, my wife and I decided to wing it. We found Mezzrow completely by chance, only later learning that it’s been one of NYC’s more significant jazz spots since the 90s and is even featured in the Louis Vuitton City Guide.It turned out to be a magical night.Down an easy-to-miss stair just around the corner from the famous Stonewall Inn, a Steinway lives out its golden years in an intimate back corner of a narrow brick-lined bar. The ceilings are low, the drinks are strong, and given the number of people there that night the bathroom was surprisingly clean (a major plus in my book).We bought our tickets on the train over and by good fortune we arrived just as the previous set was getting out. The man at the door seated us right up by the performers, one of whom — the drummer — I accidentally bumped on my way to our seats (my apologies if you ever read this!).We sat and sipped as we waited for the ten o’clock set to start, an old fashioned and a French 75 — old habits, new places. I had just started to wonder how they got the piano down the steep and narrow stairs when Cameron Campbell took his seat.Accompanied by his brother and a close friend, the trio lit up the stage as the entire room felt their connection from the first note. The way they looked at each other was love, and together they created a performance together greater than any could have as a solo act.   It’s a feeling you have to be in the room for, you can’t hear on a studio album or even a live recording. I’ve been to a lot of basements, seen a lot of jazz, but rarely has it been quite so electric. This was the kind of performance that reminds you that jazz is made to be lived in.A lot of people have confused notions about the genre. Outside of certain circles, it has a reputation for being pretentious or boring, confusing, and, most regrettably, elevator music. It’s possibly the least monolithic genre, but too many hear Kenny G once at the mall and decide that’s it.Most have not experienced a live performance. If I could, I would bring them all to Mezzrow.Jazz is a genre best experienced firsthand. When you see it played live you’re drawn in, captivated by the energy of it, grounded in its construction among the players and enlightened to how each piece of the ensemble contributes.Other artists have variations in their live performances — imperfections normally cut out in the studio. We go to concerts and love them for this reason. It’s real. But ultimately, the studio album is the peak experience in terms of sound quality and realizing the artists’ creative vision.Not jazz. Jazz is music of the moment.Louis Armstong said it’s “music that’s never played the same way once” because though it’s written and rehearsed over and again in advance, the version the audience sees is often created on the spot. Improvisation leads every performance. From the song to the genre, jazz is alive, changing, fluid.And that’s why I love Mezzrow — because more than any venue I’ve been to, it embodies all of these qualities too. The spirit of jazz is alive there, and I can’t wait to go back.So I invite you to give it a shot — the lived experience is so much different than an album, or god forbid an elevator.

Buy tickets in advance. The music is great. But Do Not go as a walk in, at least on Saturday like I did. The place is small and narrow. The area for walk-ins is far away from the musicians, but even that is not the biggest disadvantage. The people in the walk-in area who are standing around are talking loudly and could care less about the wonderful music being played or about other people who came to listen to jazz. The management should mange better.

We came on a rainy day. We were very lucky to get a spot. The place was jammed, but they made space for us. The bartender was very nice and made a delicious cocktail. Im not a jazz expert but I do enjoy a live music venue from time to time, and Mezzrow did not disappoint!Its a small jazz club in and around the West Village/Union Square area which provides some fantastic cocktails, small bites, and, of course, jazz!The performance itself lasted for about an hour and towards the end the waitress will ask if you want to stay for the next show. Im not sure if that happens often but its not to know that option exists in case you want to stay longer.Pro-tip: Make reservations in advance! It does get packed.

This is a fantastic little spot and the bar staff are very friendly. The music is great as is the sound. Its small and narrow and carries throughout the venue. Youll definitely want to book though. Whilst walk ins are encouraged, youll likely spend $20 to sit right at the back of the venue with (often) little or no view of the band. Reservations get seated near the front, so do that!

Beautiful jazz and great atmosphere: chilling, romantic and fun. The place is a bit hard to find so make sure you budget extra time the first time you visit. Costs: 20 for music room and 10 for bar, which isnt too bad if you sit towards the end of bar almost in the music room area. Beer costs 5 and cocktail 13, all reasonably priced. Im definitely going back for a weekend music treat.

The staff were friendly and you hardly noticed as they moved between tables serving drinks, etc. I recommend this to anyone I know going to NYC.Make sure you have a reservation on weekends, though. I did not realize we needed one, and had to leave eventually to accommodate their reservation list (totally my fault, not the owners) for the second / late set.

I go to jazz clubs for the music. In this case, it certainly doesnt disappoint. What they did with the basement, in terms of design, is cool. I would say, it is super narrow, so much that I could see claustrophobic suffers having a problem.

The Mezzrow jazz club is a much more intimate atmosphere than its sister club Smalls. I arrived in the middle of a set, so I sat in the entrance hall rather than the main room. However, even though I was sitting at a table near the door, I felt more relaxed and not crammed into one space. The sound of the music, the jazzy bass and vocals, were heard clearly and enjoyed. Drinks ranges $5-$20, cover charge is $20 unless you already paid at smalls and have your ticket to get in. Its $25 cover charge to sit in the main area.

Came here once a few of years ago before the pandemic and was more than happy to come back last Friday. Man, I cant express how much I enjoy this venue. Everyone, from the host to the wait staff is awesome. I came here for a couple of performances that night and the experience was just everything I could hope for plus more. I treated my girlfriend to this place for her birthday and she also fell in love with this place. Needless to say, well be back!

Small intermittent club with nice atmosphere. Went on a Wednesday night. $20 dollar cover which I reserved in advanced. Sitted at small tables, which they. Sit 4 to a table 2 on inside and 2 in outside. Drinks and wine range from $12 to $15., also wine by the bottle. The set was a 3 piece combo, guitar, bass and piano. Very enjoyable. I believe your ticket can also get you into sister club across the street. Would recommend

Im a long time Jazz fan, and over the past five decades (God, Im that old!) I have spent many nights and many dollars listening to jazz all over NYC. I go wherever the music appeals to me, and dont really care what it costs. Mezzrow is my favorite place, not only for the music, but for the vibe and the people who work there and run the club. And, for those who this does matter to: Mezzrow is a great deal -- you get to hear world class music, up front, for $20 a set -- and you get to go to Smalls for free!!While some people see the crowds at Mezzrow as a problem, I find it awesome to be sitting in a club full of knowledgeable listeners and jazz musicians whove come to hear their colleagues.Bravo Mezzrow!!!

Had an amazing time at Mezzrow last night for their jazz night! The music was top-notch, especially from Gabrielle Stravelli, Michael Kanan, and Pat OLeary. The drinks were also good. The only downside was the cramped and stuffy atmosphere - it was so hot and hard to breathe in there. Props to the performers though! 🎷🎶🍸

I was very skeptical seeing that there’s a $40 cover, but this was such a great experience. It really felt like I was in a Woody Allen movie. The show was only about an hour long, which was the only negative, but they played for the entire hour. Would definitely recommend for anyone with friends visiting or a special date night

Such a great experience with seriously talented musicians! During a trip to NY with my in-laws we wanted an authentic jazz experience and Mezzrow really delivered. Jeb Patton played with David Wong on bass and Billy Drummond on the drums. They played in a way that was fast yet completely in sync and it was amazing to hear. While Im newer to jazz they were some of the most talented musicians Ive had the pleasure of seeing live. Ive been listening Jeb Pattons music ever since and was excited to see David Wong on many of his albums!

I was told by a fellow musician to check out Mezzrow, and it certainly lives up to the hype its receiving in the music world.The intimate space is suited well for solo piano and duets or trios, with about 10-12 tables and then a bar running along the side. Its not amplified, and it doesnt need to be, allowing for a true sound from the 1920s Steinway.Pro Tip: My girlfriend and I showed up for the early piano set from 6:30-8 which has no cover before heading to dinner. Great music and drinks for $20 or so in a acoustically satisfying space is always a win-win. Definitely will be back!

The best after hours jazz club in NYC. On busy weekends you need to get here early to get a good seat. If you can get a seat in the front section you will not be disappointed. Just try to get here a half hour before the show to get a good seat. If you show up at the last minute you may get stuck in the back.

My attendance of the Arturo Sandoval performance tonight was without a doubt the worst expenditure of entertainment dollars ever. If asked to pick him out from a lineup of five, I would have been unable to pick out Mr. Sandoval. My view of the entire evening was of the backs of the people in front of me. Sandwiched between four other people, three of whom also lacked a view, the evening was not only unenjoyable, it had no redeeming features. When one of the other patrons remarked on the way out that it should have been enough to just hear the music i could not have agreed in any way. The Blue Note has sandwiched in entirely too many people in a limited space in an attempt to make money at the expense of the enjoyment of the patrons.Following the performance, my conversation with the manager, Mack Salmon-McFarlane, offered me no resolution, only a claim that he has nothing to do with management decision to cram as many people into the space as possible.Our reservation, made through the Blue Note website, indicated that making a reservation with American Express Platinum would guarantee an acceptable seat; this was definitely not the case.Save your money. Look for a performance venue such as Dizzys Club Coca Cola where the attendees have the actual chance to see and hear a performance.As for me, The Blue Note will not be getting a second chance to take my entertainment dollar. Given the opportunity, I would strongly request a refund!

Mezzrow is the sister club of Smalls Jazz Club, across 7th Ave. It has its own persona as regards the music and atmosphere that is both cozy and intimate. The music usually consists of duos and trios featuring pianists and vocalists in drummerless combinations. The acoustics are excellent and the experience is always top notch in this anachronism that can only exist in a city like NYC.

Great spot for some late night jazz and is the sister bar to Smalls. Im told the musicians can be hit or miss but thats not too surprising. When we visited the musicians were fantastic.Note that this is not a spot for conversation, they ask everyone to remain quiet and keep talking to a minimum while the musicians are playing their set. Pretty easy to just drop in!

Wonderfully cozy and relaxing jazz evening at Mezzrow. We went to a 7:30 show and each had a cocktail while enjoying the music, ambience, and stories shared by the musicians. The seating towards the stage is first come first serve, with the front room being the quiet area during the performance (so low conversations only if at all) while the back room was where you could freely enjoy the music and chat with friends.The acoustics were great, there’s such a sense of family between the musicians and the staff, and just a great energy. Would definitely come back for more shows.

Amazing date place. And a great alternative to Smalls next door. We walked in on a full house at Smalls. The bouncer kindly directed us to Mezzrow, a more intimate space for jazz enthusiasts. Totally recommended!
