OCabanon was a fantastic experience! The host was welcoming, and the waitstaff were attentive and friendly, ensuring everything was perfect. The French vibe was cozy and authentic, making the evening feel truly special. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a genuine French dining experience!

Classic French dishes served in a chill and relaxing atmosphere.Came here for lunch at their opening time on a weekday. l was the only person at the restaurant for the first 30 minutes and got a nice bar seat up front. For a French restaurant in Midtown, this seemed like a rarity, but I was glad to enjoy my lunch peacefully.Foie gras plate was a nice start to the meal. Along with the classic combination of toast, fig, and foie gras, they also had some salad which nicely refreshened my palate before digging in.On the other hand, the duck breast was unfortunately slightly overcooked. The red wine reduction sauce and the veggies on the side were good, but not worth its price. I’ve had much better duck breasts at a similar price point, so this was surely a disappointment.Thankfully, the crème brûlée was amazing despite its unassuming presentation. It would’ve been better with more strawberries, but i was able to finish the meal on a satisfactory note nonetheless.

OCabanon hosted our companys holiday happy hour on short notice and it could not have been a better experience. Armel and his staff were attentive and accommodating our group of 15+. Service, atmosphere, food and drink were all outstanding.

Came here through a Pulsd discount and I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. We got the Brie as the appetizer with steak as the main. The Brie was absolutely amazing. Incredibly tasty and we kept on asking for second and third of the bread just to have more. It was cooked to the point where we still got to enjoy the tasty top.The steak was also cooked to perfection. The potatoes on the side were also incredible. Lastly, they have this type of steak sauce that paired amazingly with the actual meat.Overall, this was a great experience and Im happy I was able to find this diamond in the rough. Would definitely be back!

Great experience and food! Waiters are incredibly friendly and attentive and the food is incredible. They even included an extra desert for free for the holidays. If you go definitely get the truffle risotto it’s to die for!

  • Review 7 (2020-01-10 - Rating: 4)

A great choice if you have a big group. A lot of appetizers/boards for sharing, a great of selection of mains and wine too. If you’re looking for something more chill with one other person, you can also share an appetizer and drink on the high tables near the entrance.

  • Review 8 (2018-06-05 - Rating: 4)

Pretty good affordable French restaurant. The quantity is of satisfying size. Service is wonderful and attentative. Ordered the risotto with mushroom and truffle oil, red snapper on ratatouille and cheese and charcuterie platters for 2.

  • Review 9 (2023-04-29 - Rating: 4)

Was in NYC for a conference and stopped here for dinner. I was alone, so they seated me at a small high top table in the back. Although I sat in the back, they did make me feel welcomed. I ordered the scallops for $39 and they came out quickly. They were delicious. The sauce was really good - it would have been nice if it came with bread to sop it up.

  • Review 10 (2024-08-07 - Rating: 5)

Love this place. Normally go for lunch. Very chill vibe, can almost always get a seat at the bar.Not cheap, but the food is always excellent.

Our server raf was excellent, he was extremely attentive and made our experience much better, the food was phenomenal as well, 10/10

  • Review 12 (2019-11-18 - Rating: 5)

Starting with the customer service, as we walked in through the door, we were welcomed by a smiling host who turned out to be the manager. She seated us perfectly far from all other guests, its me and my wife so this was ideal. We had a nice romantic dinner without loud niebors. Each dish was better then the next. The tartar trio was exellent. Perfect balance of fish/ seafood paired with an approrpiate base. We shared this as an appatasire and were delightly satisfied. The octopos salad was fresh and well seasoned, the rosoto full of flavor and texture. And then you all should know to never skip French dessert. The variouse fastrie deserts were amazing!!! The cookies perfertly balanced and selected to go with a capacuino. OCabanon made a perfect sunday dinner for us and we thank you!

  • Review 13 (2019-10-25 - Rating: 5)

I figured the wine would be good, but I didnt expect the food to be so amazing. My table shared the Brie and Truffle appetizer, which was an insanely rich and satisfying dish, and for dinner I had the O Cabanon burger. The burger had an incredibly crispy outer shell, with a perfectly cooked center. Its prepared with short rib, bacon, and brie, and topped with avocado. It also came with fries that was absolutely delicious. It didnt say this on the menu, but Im positive there was some magic mixed in each of the dishes as well.Oh and the wine was great.

  • Review 14 (2019-08-13 - Rating: 4)

There is a wide space inside the store, and it has a calm atmosphere.Rich variety of alcohol.Since there is a volume of appetizers, you can have a satisfying meal with a few kinds.

  • Review 15 (2024-06-29 - Rating: 4)

What a gem! Theres a foosball table out front, which they kindly let us use while waiting for our group to arrive. Service was fast, food was great. Although strangely there was a group in front doing an open mic karaoke session.

  • Review 16 (2022-08-07 - Rating: 5)

Excellent service, ambience, and authentic French food.I am European, lived in Nice almost a decade and miss France. The owner, Armel, was extremely attentive and courteous. Lots of French people hanging out here. The foie gras was delicious, great pairing with Jurancon, and the fondant was on point!Well be back!

  • Review 18 (2024-10-11 - Rating: 4)

Went there for a wine tasting, unfortunately the wrong times were posted. Didnt get to fully experience the bar, however it looked nice and decent location.

  • Review 19 (2024-02-15 - Rating: 5)

We like stopping by this restaurant and like also shopping to their lovely boutique. We recently asked if they could provide the gathering to our place: everything was perfect: the preparation, plan and even the last adjustments I asked for. Out party went very well and our guests thrilled about the experienceI do recommend either the restaurant either the French boutique either the gathering option.

  • Review 20 (2022-04-16 - Rating: 5)

I live near an hour away from the Alsace region of France, yet while in New York, my wife requested I find a nice quiet restaurant to get away from the city roar... and Google suggested here when I asked it to find the same. OCabanon is such a nice little french getaway. The cuisine was elegant and just as we expected from the setting. One way I judge the refinement of a french restaurant is by their crème brûlée - it was classic and perfect.

  • Review 21 (2021-05-07 - Rating: 5)

A nice pleasant place to meet friends after work! Lovely ambiance, great seasonal wines, $1 oysters, and $10 chacuterie or cheese plates. Whats not to love? The bartenders are friendly and knowledgable, and give very generous pours. The little shop is so cute and a great place to get unique gifts!

  • Review 22 (2024-03-14 - Rating: 5)

We really enjoyed our dinner. Service was great just slow. Excellent food and excellent wine. We had pate, escargot, cassoulet and chicken with mushroom sauce. We moved our business just up the block and OCabanon will be one of our go-to spots for drinks and bites.

  • Review 23 (2019-05-26 - Rating: 5)

Beautiful rustic restaurant with great hearty food. We ordered the Brie à la Truffe Noire to share and absolutely loved it. It was quite filling and the waitress was kind enough to not fire the entrees until we asked her to. Overall great service and delicious food.

  • Review 24 (2023-12-31 - Rating: 4)

Very nice casual french bistro. Fun atmosphere, long bar, and has a cool store next door.

  • Review 25 (2023-10-25 - Rating: 5)

A group of six friends went for dinner before a show. We all loved it. The food was delicious (well prepared, flavors well balanced, brought to the table in a well-timed manner), portions were generous, staff was professional and friendly, mixed drinks and wine was spot on. Wish I had taken some photos to post, but I guess we were just too busy enjoy it! Definitely will be back.

  • Review 26 (2019-08-29 - Rating: 4)

Good attentive service. Food portions only look small but are quite filling. Would definitely come back to try a different seasons menu.

  • Review 27 (2020-02-14 - Rating: 5)

Great discovery ! I had this restaurant in my to go list for a long time, was very excited to go ... and was not disappointed ! Great service, beautiful menu, very good atmosphere, big tables, happy people, we could hear some people speaking French - the team were adorable !I had the fish of the market, my husband a charcuterie board + a side of fries ... the chocolate saucisse and the chocolate mousse for dessert and it was DELICiOUS ! They’ll see us again for sure !

Went for a wine tasting event. It was a great time, service was amazing and food delicious 😊

  • Review 29 (2024-10-10 - Rating: 5)

    Fine wine and great times

  • Review 30 (2024-01-15 - Rating: 5)

Great little French address and restaurant, which has a little épicerie attached to it, where one can buy all sorts of imported French goods (cornichons, cereal, cookies etc.). The waiter who served us was French. The vibe is casual, and the wine selection is extensive. The draft beer is also good. If you order bread with your salad, they sometimes will cook fresh bread just for you.A great address to host group events as well, as they have an upstairs space that holds a large group, and where you can host a private dinner event, or cocktail hour, or meeting. I will point out that they add a 3% credit card surcharge, so you may want to pay cash. They didnt tell me this before I paid my bill... wish Id known. Will go back!

  • Review 31 (2023-04-29 - Rating: 4)

Our experience here was a good one. The service and food was good. We had 3 courses and a bottle of wine. I had and enjoyed the Mushroom risotto and my wife had the chicken which she said was great. It provided a good atmosphere with dim lighting and some music playing not too loudly in the background. The creme brulee was done just right and delicious. I would recommend.

  • Review 32 (2023-11-07 - Rating: 5)

I went there for a live music event. When arriving, I went to speak with the hostess and told me I can hang out on the bar until the band starts up. The bartender said I couldn’t sit if I wasn’t French. Apparently there is a rule of only “ French” people are allowed to sit on the bar. That was shocking to hear. But, In a way, I understood that it’s local community bar. I spoke to the hostess again and he went to the owner and explained that I was here for to watch the band. He then let me sit down at the bar. The bartender apologized to me and we had a laugh about it. The bartenders and staff are awesome people. Very friendly, very helpful, and made the dining experience all more special. The food was fantastic. Very authentic and delicious. The beer, I was introduced and drinking the Kronenbourg 1664(white) all night. It was so good. All in all, I am definitely coming back and dusting off my French words and going to learn more, in the hopes of being fluent.

  • Review 38 (2023-07-09 - Rating: 4)

This family-run French kitchen is located on 29th Street in Chelsea, nestled between 8th and 7th avenues. They specialize in serving traditional and beloved French dishes. The restaurant boasts a spacious and pristine atmosphere. I particularly appreciate their sporty vibe and modern design. Additionally, they have a shop next door that offers an array of French goodies.Taking advantage of the pleasant June weather, we opted to dine alfresco. To start, we indulged in a bottle of Chardonnay, accompanied by appetizers of Escargots de Bourgogne: French snails from Burgundy baked in blend of parsley, garlic, and butter, and Paté de Campagne Maison: a homemade country paté served with cornichons. Both dishes were complemented by warm, homemade bread. When we requested more bread, our waiter gladly obliged, earning them an extra star in our book. For our main course, we decided to share the Pâte au crevettes: fettuccine with a savory combination of butter, shrimp, and garlic, as well as the Poulet façon monsieur Georges: chicken breast marinated in thyme and rosemary, served with fingerling potatoes, string beans, and a creamy mushroom sauce. My partner found the chicken dish to be cooked to perfection. To conclude our meal, we indulged in the Cheesecake Maison: a homemade cheesecake served with a raspberry coulis. While we thoroughly enjoyed all the dishes we ordered, the standout feature of this dining experience was the exceptional customer service. We wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone seeking a memorable culinary experience.

    Nice Place

  • Review 41 (2023-09-14 - Rating: 4)

We enjoyed our lunch at OCabanon. Not busy, which seemed odd, but it worked for us. Good food and service was excellent. Smelled like cigarette smoke was in the air when we were finishing up which was very unpleasant.

  • Review 42 (2022-03-10 - Rating: 5)

What a great place ! I was expecting the average French food menu. I was pleasantly surprised to see a varied menu ranging from escargot to burgers ! Great place to meet up with friends and drink . Staff is friendly and attentive . Chef Charlie was amazing! Everything he prepared was delicious. Highly recommend. Will definitely be back.

  • Review 43 (2021-06-28 - Rating: 5)

Delicious food, great prices and amazing chocolate moose ; a house specialty. The food took a bit long to come to our table, which was caused by a big private party upstairs; this didnt bother us since we were a family reunion party of 7 and not in a rush. The chef (and owner who was present) more than made up for it with complimentary dishes. Everyone at our table enjoyed the food and the waiter was a star: friendly and attentive.

  • Review 44 (2023-02-22 - Rating: 4)

One of the best steaks I have had in a restaurant for a long time and the tuna tartare starter was very nicely done, possibly a bit of heat in there from some chilli flakes or Tabasco would be good. The only food that didnt work were hand cooked fries/chips; they werent very nice and I would recommend something such as straw or matchstick potatoes in their place.

  • Review 45 (2024-07-19 - Rating: 5)

France is in my bucket list. But until I go there OCabanon will have to do and it’s quite the substitute.

  • Review 46 (2024-02-01 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 47 (2024-04-27 - Rating: 5)

The food was amazing I can tell this as a French person, very nice waiters with a young and smiling staff !!!Matteo (with his grandma and his little sister)

  • Review 48 (2021-10-08 - Rating: 5)

Authentic delicious French food, wine, and atmosphere in the most unlikely part of NYC. Terrific. Wish theyd bring back the mussels, which are to die for. But it doesnt matter - just happy this small and excellent business has survived. Adorable shop next door always worth a visit, too. Not cheap but totally worth it.

  • Review 49 (2022-04-18 - Rating: 4)

We had the escargot, fish, and risotto. Everything was very tasty. The bread was hot and fresh. Friendly and quick service. Only drawback- more expensive than what it was worth. 12 dollars for a tiny tart tatine with tiny scoop of ice cream!

  • Review 50 (2020-10-29 - Rating: 5)

I was searching for a restaurant with really good food for a group dinner. Its very challenging to find a place in NY where you can bring a large group and sit in a private room. Generally theres a minimum food/beverage requirement. I found OCabanon through Opentable and also checked it out in person. We had a wonderful time here. Because guests were arriving at different times and had different dietary needs, we needed to do separate checks. The restaurant was told this at the time of the reservation and had no problem with it. We sat in the back room which is lined with cases of wine bottles. Diana, our waitress was very patient with us. She kept track of our large group with coat checks at each place (clever!). The food was delicious and everyone was very pleased with their meals. Highly recommended and well definitely be back!

  • Review 51 (2022-10-28 - Rating: 5)

Great food and great service. We had three courses and everything was fantastic. The little store attached with French imports is adorable. We bought snacks for our hotel room. Definitely recommend!

  • Review 52 (2018-10-09 - Rating: 4)

We enjoyed a very early dinner (4:30 pm) with 5 business colleagues. We were seated in the back room, which was very pleasant, until the regular dinner crowds came. We sat after we we done eating, she continued talking for a while. We were never pressured to give up the table. The servers were polite and, for the most part, attentive. But after about 6 PM the noise levels grew to mind boggling levels. Ive eaten here before and really enjoy the food. Its creative, cooked perfectly, and tasty, with options for all kinds of eaters, even though the menu is not huge. But if you want to have real conversation, I recommend you go early.

  • Review 53 (2019-07-12 - Rating: 5)

Excellent service by the bar staff and owner on a busy night at happy hour! Also didn’t get too loud at the bar.Happy the owner was so engaged with the customers! Would recommend the cheese plate and home fries! The meatballs looked good at other tables as well:)Great for a quick drink after work and looking forward to trying dinner next time!

  • Review 54 (2019-06-14 - Rating: 5)

Really good food. I tend to get the Roasted Chicken with the mashed pots and vegetables. It is so good. The French Onion Soup is delicious. A friend had the steak frites entree; that steak was humongous! The bread here is really good and fresh. Just the smaller things such the vegetables that come with entrees, are some my favorites. The carrots that come with the Roasted Chicken are really good. Weve had the Risotto with Truffle numerous times; thats delicious. The Tapas Plate is always good with a great selection. The service is always good and prompt. We can count on a good experience with the staff at this restaurant. This is definitely one of my favorite French restaurants in town.

Great happy hour food and drink specials. Friendly staff and fun decor.

  • Review 56 (2019-01-03 - Rating: 5)

Earlier in 2018, I was hired to DJ a corporate party at OCabanon and the venue loved it so much, they wanted me back to DJ their New Years Eve party. From loading in my equipment to the versatility of their venue, I was blown away by my experience. The management and staff were all friendly, hospitable, and accommodating. The food was out of this world and the drink menu was extensive, with many options for everyone. Their customers seemed to all be treated like family and with more than enough servers to go around, they were prepared for anything. On both nights, both staff and guests ended up dancing and fun times were had by all.If you are planning an event, looking for a romantic date night, or just a fun time, I highly recommend OCabanon - you wont regret it!

  • Review 57 (2018-04-02 - Rating: 5)

Its more than a wine bar. Its a full bar, a restaurant, a retail shop shop, and loft for private events. The bar features a few beer taps, house cocktails, a long list of quality French wines, and happy hour specials. The retail shop features French country goods, like jams, olives, oils, vinegars, juices, sweets, cheeses and more. Rent the loft for private events. Its a comfy place that includes darts, pool and lounge chairs. The food is excellent. The menu offers something for everyone: seafood, steak, salads, desserts - all with a French flair. I recommend this place wholeheartedly.

  • Review 58 (2019-12-26 - Rating: 5)

Great Christmas Dinner with a warm welcoming. Amazing service with a smile on every faces which make the amazing food even more enjoyable. Owners and the team made us feel like part of the family. A MUST GO when visiting NY. Special note for the boutique with French delicacies to bring home. Would give 6 stars if it was an option.

  • Review 59 (2019-03-01 - Rating: 5)

Food was delicious. It was cozy but clearly trendy. The wine list was extensive and they let me try to wine prior to pouring the entire glass which I always appreciate. I got the salmon, which despite the description I did not realize was smoked for some reason. Although I typically dont like smoked fish I really enjoyed it. My friends really enjoyed their dishes as well. The pear crumble was also really nice, it is served with cream cheese which pairs surprisingly well. The service was impeccable and I really enjoyed my time. The only warning I have is that I do wish this place was a little less expensive for the portions, we were honestly surprised that it was rated a 2 dollar sign, but it is in a busy area with few options. I recommend this as an option for a small group get together.

  • Review 60 (2015-01-18 - Rating: 4)

It is hard to find something decent near the Penn station so we were happy to find this place. Fast service and great lunch option, we enjoyed our meal and made it back to the station to catch the train on time. Definitely a go if you are looking for a good meal in the area. Service was very nice and fast. Place is very quiet inside so you can enjoy the conversation.

  • Review 62 (2017-04-04 - Rating: 5)

I host a Wine Club in NYC and came here with a group of 15. Obviously we called ahead, and checked in a few days out to make sure our reservation was confirmed. The staff was aware of our reservation each time we called, and were exceedingly helpful, even before we got there.Upon arrival, our table was set and ready, and the manager came over to help us and ask if we needed anything. It seemed as though the whole waitstaff was around regularly (but not intrusively) to make sure we were taken care of - what a great experience. We did 8 or 9 bottles of wine and cheese boards, and the experience was excellent. Complimentary bread was dropped off and refilled, and we didnt feel pressured to leave at any point.A great place for groups, even if the outside doesnt look like it!

Main courses were great, rustic decor, a little loud.

  • Review 65 (2015-09-18 - Rating: 5)

I lived in France and this is the food people talk about. My fois gras was perfectly seared with the creative surprise of peach cobbler beneath, which was impeccable and took lunch to a new level. I had the prix fixe for Friday, and the trout was also amazing. Crisp and light with vegetables full of flavor and just crisp. Great bread and wine. I cant recommend this highly enough if you like excellent French food. Will definitely be back when Im in NYC. It was like being back in France.

  • Review 66 (2018-01-09 - Rating: 5)

Well my 5 starts are mainly for the French atmosphere. This is the French place to go to when there are any type of French celebrations. I work for a French company and the name OCabanon is very common ;). Went there for the European Cup and it was a very special experience. Felt like being in France. Food was good too!

What a great find in the waste land that is the Penn Station neighborhood . Extensive selection of wines by the glass, served with knowledge and charm. Only complaint was very slow delivery of the check, otherwise excellent experience. I should mention the food was really perfect as well, Ill be happy to return

Loved it. Only 2 blocks from MSG.

  • Review 71 (2019-07-25 - Rating: 5)

Absolutely delicious food and great service at the bar. If your on a low carb/keto diet there are several food options including a cheese platter, meatballs and other items, keep in mind they all come with bread so ask not to have so your not tempted. Great place although bit pricey if you dont stick to the happy hour menu but worth it if you dont.

  • Review 72 (2023-08-02 - Rating: 5)

Great place for a get together. Super service and food.

  • Review 73 (2015-08-21 - Rating: 4)

The menus a bit limited once you get past the meat and cheese plates, and a bit eclectic, but the quality is high. Beet salad was delicious, as was the mushroom risotto. The venue is nice but quite loud, and service can be slow, so plan accordingly.

  • Review 74 (2019-01-17 - Rating: 5)

Recommendations, hospitality, cocktail inventiveness and flavor, and above all every dish exceeding expectations net this surprisingly spacious French-Moroccan delight my enthusiastic return business. Try the lamb couscous and macarons for dessert.

  • Review 75 (2020-03-03 - Rating: 4)

Visited with work colleagues - small group of us. Staff were lovely and the place is a Tardis with a larger seating area at the back than would seem when you walk into the bar at the front. Food was good - ate fresh tuna salad Nicosie - nicely served with nice large pieces of Tuna. Other meals included Fricassée de St Jacques, OCabanon Burget, Gâteau de Crabe. All said their meals were very nice - Burger different with the stuffing of Bacon, cheese etc.

I am quite sure I have NEVER given a restaurant a perfect score. But OCabanon is not just a restaurant, it is a respite for the daily churn of the city served with the down-home hospitality of a small village near Lyons where our waiter Cydric and patron Michael hail from. From the first greeting through a delicious (Salade Nicoise & Rare Salmon) stress-free lunch, my associate and I were wholly enamoured by the entire experience. The decor, given some of the materials used, could impose a cold environment. Instead it is warm and welcoming and most importantly audio balanced.I am assured it is a different scene at night when The Garden finishes and the fans descend. Good for them!In the interests of full disclosure, I should mention that I am in the restaurant/hospitality business with interests in the US, Caribbean and Europe.A delightful surprise!

  • Review 80 (2017-05-08 - Rating: 4)

Delicious!!!Relaxed environment, great drinks, the food was phenomenal. The only reason for less that a perfect 5 was that I waited in the front of the restaurant for 20 minutes before I had to ask someone to be seated for my reservation.

  • Review 81 (2017-03-04 - Rating: 5)

Worth every penny! Scrumptious food, kind & punctual staff, clean, and just an all around chill environment, always good music playing here with a lot of art to see! It has become my favourite spot for before New York Rangers games @ MSG. Thank you OCabanon, see you in a few! Cant wait, lets go Rangers!!

My review is for the shop, I didnt eat at the restaurant. I got so many goodies here, they had great products! I bought too much but hey, it was worth it. Customer service here was great too

  • Review 84 (2021-05-02 - Rating: 5)

Armel and Alexandre are doing a great job. I joined a private event there that went very well, they managed to serve everyone at almost the same time, and the Daube was excellent. We then went to the boutique to buy some typical French products we hadnt seen here and we missed: Clement Faugier crème de marron in particular.
