This bar was one of the pinnacles of our Christmas trip in New York. The bar was decked out, they had a table available for us immediately, and they had live music when we showed up. The food was tasty, the fries were crisp, and the Christmas cocktail was ADORABLE! The staff were all so nice as well. We had the best evening at Playwright :)(we dressed up our cheesecake with the garnishes from my cocktail ❤) -

Gaelic Football, Irish Breakfast, and bottomless Mimosas anywhere in the world is a good day. Mine sure was. From Seans command of the bar to the Irish ex-pats teaching me the game, Irish hospitality was at its finest.Great deals, great food, great service, and something the Irish have become known for, the best Bar in NYC! -

Had a nice lunch at Playwright Tavern today! The food was really enjoyable, especially the Thai chicken salad, which was flavorful and well-prepared. The venue is very spacious with plenty of TV screens, perfect for catching a game. The bartender was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall positive experience. Its a solid choice for anyone in the area looking for a drink or meal in the Times Square area. -

This is a great atmosphere pub feel. The staff welcomed our party of seven and quickly had a table. We actually had a choice of upstairs or outside. Good food choices. Drinks were good as well. Service was okay. Kept having to ask for things... Basics i.e. water, napkins, condiments, etc. Maybe just an off night for a busy place. We did have a couple of appetizers that arrived before our meal. Food was prepared quickly and served. We all enjoyed our different choices. I dont think you can go wrong depending on what you like. I would go there again when in NYC. -

This place is authentic and worth it on holiday w/ family get/togethers . The staff the food and atmosphere is the best . From wing appetizers to NY Strips main course w/ various drinks to apple pie and various coffees deserts . The bill was over $200 w/ 13% gratuity included plus we added more tip because of the professionalism from the wait staff and chefs . In the Big Apple you have to pay to have a great time and 202 Celtic Pub is worth it . Next family holiday get/together in the NYC right here . -

It is a nice place, that has a great location! It is located almost on the Times Square. They serve good pub food. I ordered Grilled Turkey Burger and it was good. The drinks were amazing. I had White Chocolate Martini. It was s tasty. The place by itself is pretty crowded, they have tables outside as well. -
Review 8 (2024-11-17 - Rating: 5)
Delicious! Old fashioned, welcoming pub with delicious food. The beef stew is hearty and fork tender. And the gravy is just like my Moms! -
Review 9 (2024-09-13 - Rating: 4)
My friend works there! The food is typical Irish pub fare ie fish and chips, shepherds pie, bangers and mash with a large variety of food options!Staff are friendly and accommodating. A wide selection of big screen tvs are mounted along thelength of the bar with all types of sporting events being aired from around the world!Fridays are my favorite! From 6pm till late they have a Sinatraperformer belting out the hits fromthe legendary singer! Outside seating and dining is also set up!!! Pricing is what you would expect being close to Broadway. Food portions are large!Overall a fun, memorable experience every time!!! -

We dined here twice during our stay in NYC. The food and atmosphere are both brilliant, and its in a fantastic location! Marsha is good fun and really looked after us! -
Review 12 (2019-09-23 - Rating: 4)
The atmosphere was nice and the food was good.Only minor issue was the amount of time it took for the food to arrive. After we ordered, our soups came out pretty quickly, however, after finishing our soups, we waited about 30 mins before the entrees arrived. But other than that, the food was good and we really didnt have any other issues. -
Review 13 (2024-09-01 - Rating: 5)
We spend some days sitting at the street drinking and enjoying the atmosphere. Cold beer, nice service and good snacks. Leon, Arturo, Macedo and Ana Marie made our days special. A place to enjoy around Times Square! -
Review 14 (2022-12-06 - Rating: 4)
This place had cute Christmas decorations. As far as the food / drinks it was alright. They ran out of one of their holiday cocktails so we ended up getting espresso martinis. Drinks are on the pricey side for an Irish pub.. $15 for cocktails, $13 for mozzarella sticks. -
Review 15 (2021-09-26 - Rating: 5)
A nice hole in the wall to pop in and have a drink after navigating the cacophony of times Square. Service was fast and helpful. Atmosphere was relaxed, sports playing on the screens and people just slowing down to enjoy the moment. -

Very relaxed. Sat at the bar for a good 2 hours over a few drinks during happy hour. No hassle at all. -
Review 23 (2017-03-28 - Rating: 4)
The $15 burger and beer is a great deal. Burger was done perfectly and cheese was melted all over the burger. Fries were crispy and perfectly seasoned. Manager asked me what I wanted to watch and checked on me frequently. Great price, very good food and wonderful service, right at Times Square. A great option when you need a break and have worked up a substantial appetite (portions were NOT small). Enjoy! -
Review 24 (2024-06-18 - Rating: 5)
Tbh I was a bit skeptical at first because there are a million restaurants in Times Square. However, I was pleasantly surprised. I have never has a more juicier burger ever and the pasta was so creamy!! Must try if you are in Times Square! -

Review 30 (2024-04-03 - Rating: 4)
I came here on a weekday evening hoping to get a seat for food and I had to squeeze into a seat at the bar on the second floor. I ordered their James Joyce burger, which includes toppings like ham and a single black olive. The burger was good, but nothing particularly special. The bar was fairly crowded. -
Review 31 (2024-08-14 - Rating: 5)
Amazing! If you have the opportunity to go, do it. You won’t regret this food experience. -
Review 32 (2021-04-18 - Rating: 5)
Visited tonight with friends and enjoyed every minute of it. The Irish Nachos were delicious as was the Baileys Coffee and Chocolate Cake. Our server, Jackie, was attentive, friendly, and efficient. The live music provided by Andy Mac was the perfect addition to dinner. Folks sang along and everyone seemed to have a great time. Ill definitely be back! -
Review 33 (2018-11-24 - Rating: 4)
Good food, service and location in Times Square. Good for one, two or more people, but probably best to make reservations for groups of 3 or more. Cozy, but not wheelchair accessible. -
Review 34 (2023-10-03 - Rating: 5)
Came across this pub by walking down in New York exploring since this is my first time going to New York. I love the atmosphere and the life entertainment when a man was singing in the other room where people were drinking and having a good time. The food is very great the service was also great. I would definitely recommend this place when I come back to visit New York again -
Review 35 (2022-11-04 - Rating: 5)

Review 40 (2023-09-03 - Rating: 5)
We visited Playwright twice to have just drinks. The first time was about lunchtime, and the bartender was a very nice and friendly woman. The crew working seemed very fun and appeared to be having a good time at work. The next visit was around dinner time. The bartender, this time, was not a friendly man, and when we received the bill, in it, the tip had been added. We had no warning that the tip had been added , but there was a space to add more tip. Did not like that at all. When we went at lunchtime, the tip was not added to the total. Very sneaky bartender that night. Great place, though. -
Review 41 (2020-02-21 - Rating: 5)
Sean and Allen are great bartenders, been visiting the Playwright for 10 plus years, they always treat us with the utmost respect, like family. Had a great lunch...food was great, two thumbs up, highly recommended. Norm and Lore Martinez from Waterbury Ct. -
Review 42 (2024-01-04 - Rating: 5)
Great place for a quick bite! The service was good, just wish they had checked on us a little more, we could have had another drink or two! But other wise great! -
Review 43 (2023-10-17 - Rating: 4)
The prices are high, well by CA standards, but good pub food. My partner had one of the Fall specials, Cajun red snapper, and said it was exceptional. My Reuben was okay, nothing amazing, too much sauce, not enough sauerkraut and meat -
Review 44 (2023-01-03 - Rating: 4)
Bar service was awesome. Food was great. Location and atmosphere and price were all great. Waitress not so much. 12/27/22 upstairs dining at 845pm. She Took our orders and then we never saw her again. Had to flag someone down for our bill. And 18% gratuity was automatically added to the bill so we could not even dock her for not checking on us. -

Been going to playwright for years. Although havent been since before the pandemic. It felt weird to see the new staff but Joey provided as close to perfect service there is. Keep that guy playwright! This is coming from a bartender thats been in the game for 13 years -
Review 49 (2024-05-12 - Rating: 4)
Is it normal that bartender in NYC is slightly rude. I introduced myself to few of them including this place and she was like ok.Anyway great place overall but rude bartender -
Review 50 (2023-07-27 - Rating: 5)
Great place & staff were most welcoming because of the heat in the city we were asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside, we headed inside, lovely and cool, inside you see a typical long Irish bar with 4 tv screens, plenty of options of spirits and beers on tap. Waiter gave us some water whilst we pondered the menu, what we ordered was absolutely delicious and food came soon after we ordered it, once we had finished our meal, we asked for the bill, service was included, definitely be back. -
Review 51 (2024-07-26 - Rating: 4)
Food was delicious. Just wish my server wouldve gotten off her phone and looked up at me when we were done. Other then that, the staff were nice. Food was great, nice atmosphere. -
Review 52 (2022-11-27 - Rating: 5)
Stopped in for one beer after a show. Loved the cozy atmosphere, and it was busy but not too busy. The bartender, unfortunately I didn’t get her name, was as nice as could be as she made me feel very welcome. Next time I go to a show on Broadway I’m definitely stopping here after. -
Review 53 (2024-11-09 - Rating: 5)

Review 54 (2020-11-23 - Rating: 5)
Im surprised to see the bad reviews about the service!!My husband and I enjoyed everything about our experience here. From the gentleman who took our temps and seated us, to our bartender who took our food and drink orders, they were so friendly. The bartender and I were laughing together- I really liked her!Our drinks were perfectly made(Cosmopolitan and Captain and Coke), and our food was just as perfect! They have a great selection of alcohol and Irish fare. Great location, with additional seating outside. Of course, we will be back!! -

Review 58 (2022-07-29 - Rating: 5)
This is a really nice place A good place to meet up with friends family associates acquaintances. You can see quite a bit of the city as people go by to relax good drink the staff very friendly very helpful. We were out of towners and you can tell we were out of towners. The staff helpful on the menu we sat down for drinks we didnt eat but even so very nice hostess and a nice waitress as well funny she should start a comedian circuit for herself. The drinks were interesting from the crew I myself as you can see from the pictures have water with lemon. From the silent traveler to all of you have a great day and enjoy New York -
Review 59 (2023-06-25 - Rating: 5)

Review 60 (2021-09-08 - Rating: 4)
We went here for lunch one day. It was pretty cool because the waiter guy had an thick Irish accent. Which really gave it a more authentic feel. The prices were moderate. It is a nice place and the food was good but I dont suggest it for drinks. Its a little pricey on drinks. -
Review 61 (2019-09-08 - Rating: 4)
We arrived close to 5pm on a Thursday night. We sat upstairs and were the only table, but the place filled up quick. I had the fish and chips. They were good, but Ive had much better. These had that gummy goop under the breading and the fries were just average. Good beer selection. After dinner we went to the bar downstairs to take advantage of a few Happy Hour Cocktails for $6. A Margarita and an Appletini. Way to sweet. Yuck. Switched back to beer. This is the perfect location if catching a show. I would recommend going and Ill give it another shot when back in the area. -
Review 62 (2021-10-18 - Rating: 4)
Very good food and good service! I had their Oktoberfest special platter and my wife had the pasta paisano and both were very tasty. Our waitress only came by once after taking our order and that was to clear plates and get us the check, but to be fair, we were sitting outside. I would recommend stopping by and grabbing dinner at Playwright! -
Review 63 (2024-08-09 - Rating: 5)
Just what the doctor ordered. Good food. Top notch barkeeps. What else do you need? -
Review 64 (2022-01-30 - Rating: 4)
Popped in here after seeing Book of Mormon. At the upstairs bar a guy was singing Sinatra songs and interacting with the patrons, which was fun. The food was a bit on the pricey side for what it was - upwards of $20 for a sandwich and fries - and felt a little basic. But the atmosphere was fun and it was so close to the venue, and that felt like a plus. -
Review 65 (2017-06-11 - Rating: 4)
For the Gluten-free and Dairy-free the vegetables have to be cooked without butter and you must notify your server. The steak was cooked to our request and was quite nice. The fish and chips had a thick Irish batter but tasted well. This was a nice dinner. The atmosphere was fantastic with the old wood to the stained glass. It was a fun little Irish pub. -
Review 66 (2018-07-27 - Rating: 4)
I love these kinds of pubs. Decent service, great drinks, good food to munch on. It was a bit quiet which was great for my classmates and me. But it was Wednesday afternoon. I would definitely go again. Bartender had to be reminded of our hot wings order. -
Review 67 (2023-12-28 - Rating: 5)

Review 69 (2019-10-07 - Rating: 4)
We were hungry and we were within sight of this place. Comfort food. Good food, well presented and pretty fast. It was very tasty and we ordered two different meals (with two real beers) and shared to taste the two dishes. Both were good, and plentiful. -

Review 72 (2022-05-14 - Rating: 5)
Came in for a quick drink and bite before catching a show. Service was top notch and the drinks and food both came very quickly! My martini was cold and salty like I like, and the potato skins were creamy and super flavorful. The place has a great vibe as well. -

Review 76 (2019-02-11 - Rating: 5)
My wife and I were vacationing in New York City when we decided to go to a nicer dinner. While the atmosphere is casual, the food was great! My wife had the penne pasta with chorizo sausage and kale, and I had the shepherds pie. Both were delicious and we had a great time! This place is right on Times Square so it makes for a great place to eat before or after a show! The service was very good and speedy! -
Review 77 (2023-01-03 - Rating: 4)
Nice bar with an old feel where you can sit and watch the games and enjoy a drink and/or food. I visited yesterday after walking around the city, which is always a great idea around this time of the year. Great part of town. -
Review 78 (2022-04-29 - Rating: 4)
A very comfortable place with several different areas to catch a game, an adult beverage or a quality meal before a Broadway show. Food is good quality and service was prompt and attentive. Would definitely go back. -
Review 79 (2021-10-29 - Rating: 5)
Great Irish pub! Excellent food choices (try the corned beef!) and loads of drinks. Theyve got a little bit of everything from everywhere. I had Veltins Pils, which Id not seen since living in ye old Deutschland.Debbie was our server, and was the exact opposite of the stereotypical rude New Yorker. Very pleasant, attentive, and on top of everything. Shes been working 14 hour shifts, 4 days per week, so it was amazing that she was so cheerful and agreeable despite 60+ hour weeks... Treat them right, yall! Theyre making things happen! -
Review 80 (2022-01-08 - Rating: 5)
Chicken pot pie, Shepard pie, beef stew and corned beef and cabbage. All some of the best weve had and weve been to Ireland. Waitress was terrific and was also a bartender and had great recommendations for us. Highly recommend this place when close by. -

Great food & service. Portions are big so bring your appetite! -
Review 82 (2017-01-06 - Rating: 4)
We had a great lunch here after seeing the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular. The Reuben was good (could use a little more sauerkraut and dressing, but the corned beef was really good), the fries were spectacular, and my wife said the fish and chips was the best shed ever had outside of her grandmothers kitchen. The staff was extremely friendly. -
Review 83 (2023-09-27 - Rating: 4)

Review 84 (2021-02-14 - Rating: 4)
This was a decent cozy and warm place. Soup was a bit small but was okay. Drinks were good too. Good customer service. Close to times square and 50th st Station. Worth popping into if you like the Irish pub scene. -
Review 85 (2016-11-25 - Rating: 4)
Not sure what some of these reviewers expect. This is right in the theater district and tourist central. BUT, its still a favorite go-to for us (locals). Varied menu is enough to please a picky fam. Service solid. Prices very reasonable for midtown. Food quality is very good. You really cant go wrong here, and the atmosphere is fun NYC -
Review 86 (2023-02-22 - Rating: 5)

Review 87 (2018-12-12 - Rating: 4)
Enjoyed Playwright quite a bit. Above the Celtic Pub and right off Times Square, the location is great to get a bite and relax. Menu is decent with a number of American/Pub options. Fish and Chips is done in a light tempura and quite good. The Famous meatloaf was a good choice as well. Fairly broad beer selection and overall attentive staff. Casual, dark wood environment upstairs. -

Review 93 (2019-05-15 - Rating: 5)
My husband introduced me to this pub and I love it, the food is always great! Very nice people. The severs are amazing, very fiendly, AND, I’d never met a bar tender so good as Ronnie, usually bartenders do good drinks but Ronnie always asks me if is ok how I like the drink & he’s able to do it as I like, also if I want a share food, he separates in 2 plates the exact amounts, usually bartenders give u 2 plates for u to take care that but, Ronnie makes everting easy and he cares that for your happiness, I live in NY for several decades & I never met someone like him. Anyways this place is awesome. I highly recommend. -
Review 94 (2019-02-12 - Rating: 5)
I like both the Playwrights and they have the same decor. Decent beers and selection and the special burger was really good albeit a little pricey at $19 but cheaper than building your own. I went to this one because it was showing UFC and the other one wasnt. -

Great bartenders! The food is good; I usually stick to the coconut 🥥 shrimps 🍤 and NYC strip 🥩. The owner is pretty nice and will usually grab a drink with you at the bar. -

It ticks all the Irish pub experience for me. Friendly atmosphere and staff, easy going, good food, sports, live music, cold Guinness. If thats what you are looking for then you are in the right place. They also have a seated quieter second floor area which looked nice but I didnt try it. -

Joey is a great guy! Top notch service, happy, upbeat personality. And he saved us Texans big bucks by giving us a crash course on taking the subway instead of a taxi! Many thanks, Joey! -

Playwrights location puts it right in the middle of the theatre district. it offers a fantastic bar on the first floor (but also one upstairs), as well as a comfortable dining room on the second floor. The upstairs bar occasionally features live music. -

Decent selection of beers, friendly staff and nice venue located in Midtown. Use the bar on the second floor as its less crowded. Very cheap on Happy Hour. -

I have been to this establishment and I wrote a review on Yelp - and the business did attempt to respond. However, someone posted a vulgar review here using my name and I want to make sure its understood that the review is fake and people should evaluate this restaurant on its own merit and not on fake google reviews. -

Good pub near Broadway shows. Had a couple drinks before going to Chicago down the street. Nice beer selection. Big mix of people. Some local, some tourist, some heading to shows.
