Highly recommended. This is a wonderful Spanish tapas restaurant with a balance of bar dining and table service. Theres actually two decent sized bars (front and back) plus high top tables and standard seating. The food was fresh but also came out quickly, and all the dishes were excellent. Best of all, the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Well be returning. -
Review 2 (2019-03-27 - Rating: 4)
Interesting place. Food was good, but not great. What it lacked culinary, it made up with in atmosphere, decor, and amazing white Sangria. The restaurant is loud during peak eating hours, so not the best place for a first date, but definitely a good place to meet friends youre already comfortable with -
Review 3 (2019-11-15 - Rating: 5)
Perfect spot in flatiron for some cava/wine with delightful tapas.Fried goat cheese, Serrano ham croquettes, pan con tomate, empanadas are light and flaky, gambas al ajillo, calamari, and octopus are our favorites. If really hungry we had the paella once and enjoyed it, but normally don’t order it. -
Review 4 (2019-04-12 - Rating: 4)
Loved the ambiance, high energy vibes and the food was great! The host/greeter was great, our waitress was nice but seemed too busy to ask if we wanted another drink or how everything was. -
Review 5 (2019-06-24 - Rating: 4)
Great environment, good services and a very fair menu . I had a combo -gazpacho soup and bacalao sandwich with salad - wonderful . Also had a sangria . Super ! -
Review 6 (2018-01-08 - Rating: 5)
Pricey but worth it. Delicious tapas expertly crafted and constructed. Great quiet atmosphere and very warm lighting. -
Review 7 (2020-03-03 - Rating: 5)
Delicious shared plates. My friend and I had Croquetas, Gambas al Ajillo, Albóndigas, Pan con Tomate, and Brocheta de Gamba - Champiñón. It was all great! Theres a bar area in the front, but in the back by the tables there is a small stage where two guitarists and a dancer performed. It was very entertaining - they were so talented. At times the music was a bit loud, but we were seated directly next to the stage. Great service and nice location near subway stations. -

Review 12 (2018-06-28 - Rating: 5)
I went here during pride with a big group, just stumbled upon this little gem. The food was amazing. My friend and I split the fried goat cheese and it was honestly one of the best things Ive ever eaten in my life. The asparagus was also amazing, and the atmosphere was so cosy. Service was awesome as well, our server was very sweet! I would visit here again! -
Review 13 (2018-12-18 - Rating: 5)
I came here for a celebration with my husband and we had an amazing time. We started at the bar where we had some happy hour Dates wrapped in bacon delicious, though I usually prefer cheese to almonds in the middle. The sangria was great - not too sweet and a generous helping of fruit. The arroz (pictured) was so delicious. There were few veggie plates and nothing for vegans. The Monday-night Flamenco show was incredible. I highly recommend and will be returning soon. -
Review 14 (2017-12-13 - Rating: 5)
Delicious food. The atmosphere was amazing. Perfect for a date. It was all romantic with brick and small white lights. Great place to bring a friend to get drinks with after work since they have lots of wines for happy hour. That and Sangria!! -
Review 15 (2016-06-28 - Rating: 4)
Great tapas. My girlfriend had a good red wine while I had a spicy margarita that was phenomenal. Atmosphere was quiet.Only downside was that, while the service at the beginning was good, at the end of the meal we had difficulty getting our check, and it felt like they basically forgot we were there. We probably could have left without paying the bill and nobody would have been the wiser. -
Review 16 (2018-07-24 - Rating: 4)
We came here on a Friday evening and were seated immediately, which was pleasant. The service was attentive, the drinks were good. The shrimp in olive oil was great, and was made so much better with their bread. We had also ordered the albondigas and a Spanish omelette, out of which we liked the albondigas but the omelette was a little dry for our liking. Overall, it was a good meal. -
Review 17 (2016-07-07 - Rating: 5)
Went for a friends birthday dinner. I loved everything we got. On the pricy side, but it was worth it. We were a big group, they were happy to accommodate us all. We ordered way too much than we can eat, so keep an eye on what everyone else is ordering for the table. The servers and the manager also sang along Happy Birthday when they brought the desserts with candles on them. -
Review 18 (2018-09-27 - Rating: 4)
Sala serves small and tasty dishes, sort of like tapas. The dishes are creative and tasty. Both meat and vegetarian choices are enjoyable. Service is fast and friendly. Prices are fair. The only downside is that the room is a little noisy. Recommended. Come regularly or come for.an occasional change of pace. Make an advance reservation. -
Review 19 (2019-11-10 - Rating: 4)
Excellent classic Spanish food served by attentive, caring staff in an attractive, cozy , though quite noisy space. The meat paella is not to be missed - croquettes are wonderful. A small but well chozen wine list complements the food perfectly. -
Review 20 (2020-02-14 - Rating: 5)
This place is nothing short of amazing!Whether you’re sitting bar style, accompanied by Jacob (who might I add, has been with the establishment for 11yrs and is absolute joy to converse with) or at a table, the service is superior. This Spaniard, Mediterranean feel is the perfect setting for either a intimate work/play combo. At happy hour or dinner, this place is bumping. However, you can catch a more mellow vibe during your lunch time if you prefer. -
Review 21 (2013-10-12 - Rating: 5)
Food and service is consistently good, despite this weve never had a problem getting a table even on a Friday or Saturday night. Fiance and I did New Years Eve here and it was a really awesome, intimate experience. It wasnt terribly expensive, they served their regular menu, and the owner came out and threw lots of party favors at the patrons as it got closer to midnight. Lots of sangria and poppers without the mess of times square made for a pretty memorable night :) -
Review 22 (2019-08-06 - Rating: 4)
The food was tasty and comes out quickly. The shrimp in garlic was mt favorite dish - simply to make and easy to screw up too, but they succeeded. The flamenco dance and music were great entertainment, but dont expect yo have a conversation, b/c utf us really loud. The white sangria was subpar.Great overall experience. -
Review 23 (2014-10-04 - Rating: 4)
Delicious Spanish tapas joint that is great for dates and friend dates. The drinks are rather expensive, though tasty, especially the sangria. Loved the potatoes bravas and the omelet (proper name escapes me). Also loved the roast chicken. Service is a bit pushy, especially with drink service. -
Review 24 (2018-08-12 - Rating: 5)
This was so awesome!!! The tapas were fabulous. The bacon wrapped dates, the meatballs and the octopus was especially terrific. Service was fast and friendly. Loved the atmosphere. Great for date spot. -
Review 25 (2019-08-29 - Rating: 5)
$$$ Great ambiance. Little high on the price. Food and drinks were great.Try their cocktails. The sangria was ok for that price.Friendly staff. For whatever reason the place is very noisy, as in the customer’s noise was a lot compared to many similar restaurants. -
Review 26 (2019-05-18 - Rating: 5)
Go for happy hour and you won’t be disappointed. Good portions and extensive wine selection. -
Review 27 (2020-02-20 - Rating: 5)
Now this is what we call authentic Spanish food! A beautifully set restaurant with amazing service, incredible food and great wine list! Carlos our waiter was turning this visit into a holistic experience! We started with the scallops which were cooked by perfection, followed by grilled artichokes with bacon. Followed by Ibérica Jambon with Manchego cheese and pork cheeks that are melting in your mouth like butter. All that accompanied with a beautiful 2014 SVMMA VARIETALIS. We were two adults with 2 kids (11 & 13) who asked me this morning if we could go back there tomorrow as their hangar steaks are awesome and amazing portion! Keep on going this way, you make a lot of people happy ! -
Review 28 (2019-07-03 - Rating: 5)
Probably the best place Ive eaten at in NYC. Incredible dishes all around and ample serving sizes. But the star of the show was definitely the genuine Spanish hospitality from Iñaki and David in particular. Over and beyond the call of duty and going the extra mile to the max! Food wise, would suggest the clams with the short noodles, mussels and the fillet mignon on bread, so delicious! The chocolate molten cake was to die for. Well be back for the paella soon enough! -
Review 29 (2019-01-20 - Rating: 5)
Romantic spot. Delicious food. Great service. Fair pricing (only the cocktails and wines by the glass seem over priced). Had the Lentil soup, Pan Tomate, Pulpo, Gambas al Ajillo, Chorizo, and a Spanish draft beer (Mahou) and everything was spot on. -
Review 30 (2019-07-11 - Rating: 4)
Great weekday happy hour at the bar. Excellent service. -
Review 31 (2018-09-03 - Rating: 5)
Excellent tapas....green beans with walnuts and black truffles and figs...the shrimp with garlic and olive oil are delicious...the seafood paella was excellent ( one of the best we have had).. the service was helpful and knowledgeable....and the atmosphere was romantic...would highly recommend it! -
Review 32 (2016-10-04 - Rating: 5)
Ive been here several times and it quickly turned into one of my favorite places. The ambience is perfect, and the drinks are strong. Its a bit on the pricy side, but thats Manhattan for you. Other than that, I love it here. -
Review 33 (2018-10-11 - Rating: 5)
NYC Favorite. The food is fantastic. My favorite Spanish tapas restaurant in NYC. I have been many times and the food is always top rated. This is a popular place but the noise level stays in check. I recommend to anyone visiting NYC. -
Review 34 (2019-07-16 - Rating: 5)
Its easily the best restaurant in the area, the meal was perfect and the staff are so kind. My son spilled his water and I began to clean it. When the waiter saw he rushed over to help and replaced the plates. -
Review 35 (2018-01-03 - Rating: 5)
Amazing, and long standing, tapas joint in Flatiron. Excellent date spot! -
Review 36 (2013-04-22 - Rating: 4)
I was really pleased with my experience at Sala. I wanted a menu that didnt force me into seafood, and didnt include pork as an ingredient in every dish. From the small plates (highly recommend the fried goat cheese with candied onions and honey); the sangria; and the organic chicken, everything was excellent. Our service was great, too; especially as an out-of-towner, I am usually disappointed with the snotty attitudes of NYC waitstaff - but not here! Honestly, Ill be recommending this to anyone looking for tapas in the city. -
Review 37 (2018-07-19 - Rating: 4)
Great tapas place. Try the meatballs! Also the scallops. The ambience is great. -
Review 38 (2016-10-16 - Rating: 5)
Very popular. Get a reservation, especially for happy hour. Delicious, delicious food. Especially the tapas. Love the octopus. Beautiful decor. Good date spot too. -
Review 39 (2020-04-21 - Rating: 5)
Delicious food. The place is small, casual, and perfect for a night out. Don’t expect to have a table for yourself on a Friday night. It’s a good place do it’s expected to be crowded. Recommended -
Review 40 (2020-03-04 - Rating: 5)

Review 47 (2019-08-23 - Rating: 4)
The place itself is a very nice ...kind of vintage a very nice enjoyable ambiance. The service was on point, food was good but i had better paella, it was also small for 2 people as it is the minimum require to order it.sangria was ok, it can be improved. Still for spanish food not a bad place. -
Review 48 (2018-08-15 - Rating: 4)
- Datiles - 5 pieces of small, sweet and candied dates with an almond and crunchy bacon- Abobdigas meatballs - very soft and tender, with nice tomato sauce- Paella de mariscos - moist and tomatoey - contained large shrimp with shell, small shrimp, clams and mussels, on the salty side -
Review 49 (2012-06-26 - Rating: 4)
Cute spot with an extensive bar area. Grab one of their tapas and a pitcher of sangria and stay for a bit. Acoustics are on the louder side. Dont come here expecting an intimate date night. -

Consistently excellent for years. Food is delicious and menu has a wide range. Wine selection is lovely, sangria is very good. Bacon wrapped dates, shrimp in garlic oil and chicken entree (I never order chicken anywhere else) are top favorites. The staff is friendly and service is on point. Some of the staff had been there for years and greet repeat customers warmly which is a plus. The GM David is professional and friendly. I love this place! Best Spanish tapas in NYC without question! -
Review 96 (2018-06-29 - Rating: 5)
Stumbled into this place looking for a place to eat in the area. Not a fan of the youth scene in the neighborhood. Place is Spanish with Tapas, some of them unusual. The lamb skewers were absolutely outstanding. The potatoes were good actually. So was the stew with fried egg. Authentic. Prices are about sander not cheap The drinks were good they actually had a good ports. Staff was very nice we made new friends. Loud but not as loud as the places nearby which we checked out. They were unbearable.... I guess I should add that we spent 2 weeks in Spain again recently. This place made us feel like we were in Barcelona again. Very cool. -
Review 97 (2018-07-28 - Rating: 5)
Beautiful, dimly lit atmosphere. Seated quickly around 10pm on a Friday night. Very polite and friendly service. The food instantly took me back to Spain, so delicious, high quality, and prices were OK too! Looking forward to going back. -
Review 98 (2018-12-13 - Rating: 5)
I really love to come here alone for a glass of wine and one or two tapas. The goat cheese with honey is so good, I think about it all the time. Definitely more vegetarian options than your typical tapas place, which is great. A great place to go alone, with a date, or with friends. -

Review 104 (2011-11-12 - Rating: 4)
The seafood paella dish is tasty and is $19 per person. You are better off getting a main dish rather than spending money on individual tapas that range from $8 to $14. The plate is served in an individual cast iron skillet, paired with a good glass of wine or pitcher of sangria, and you are all set for the night. If you are looking for good ambiance and have a large group of friends, this is the spot for you. -

My wife and I found this restaurant several years ago on one of our sightseeing walks in Manhattan. The food is excellent and authentic, and atmosphere is lively and energetic, yet romantic enough for a couple on a date. We now go to Sala everytime we visit NYC. -

I have been in this place like 3 or 4 times, and I must say that the food is good, everything has a delicious flavour, soft as the taste of spanish food.I use to have the pepito and is really good, maybe small, but taste amazing. Also if you want to try a good paella in NY, I must say that this one is rally good (minimum for 2 people). -

Was invited to sala one nine for a friends bday dinner and decided to go only because she kept Raving about how amazing this intimate tapas restaurant is. Disclaimer: I take birthday dinners very seriously. Running 15 minutes late, I finally arrive and walked through a long red velvet curtain. Voila, people - all over! I mean this is great for business, I just didnt expect such a vibrant crowd for an intimate location. Its a two part restaurant- the entrance seats a handful of people- a few seating tables and one of 2 bars. I already knew where my party was and took a deep breath of relief when I realized this place is not small at all! Maybe they prefer it this way to surprise you. After all you dont expect romance right away. Although minimal lighting surrounds the entire restaurant this section is much larger. Rustic wooden walls and floors make you feel warm and cozy not to mention their sexy lanterns decor their ceilings. It wasnt long before I met my party, especially after noticing all the wine glasses and food platters floating left and right. The minute I sat down the waiter introduced himself and poured me a glass of wine- attentiveness at its best! We ordered a combination of their rations and entrees so we could all have a little bit of everything. I was introduced to their almond stuffed date surrounded by sweet glazed bacon. I wanted more! If youre craving seafood, Gambas Al Ajillo brings seared shrimps swimming in pure deliciousness garlic oil. Ask for as much bread as youd like because this is one sizzling oil youre going to keep dipping in. If you like to spice up your dishes make sure you order their spicy red pepper sauce , is a warm spicy tomato sauce that is also found in their Patatas Bravas, if you like potatoes youll love this side. Who wouldnt want drenched potatoes in a yummy sauce. The truth is Sala one nine will be seeing more and more of me. See you soon! -
