Lovely spot for tapas. Not too crowded.Food was flavorful and tasty. Presentation was clear. The place is tucked away inside a hotel and connected to their outdoor patio/garden. The ambiance was intimate, casual, and welcoming. Service was warm and prompt. -

Wow! Some of the best food I have had in the city! Was looking for a nice place for dinner on a Saturday night, happened to find this place and they were super accommodating without a reservation. Our server, Dulce, was personable and attentive and took such good care of us. We will be coming back, highly recommend! -

Absolutely amazing. The duck is a must try along with the carrots and potatoes. I mean the food was so good. Each small plate can easily be shared between 2 people. We got the full duck because we were a party of 6. They provided excellent service. They recommend dish parings and also advised us on what to order due to our party size. The red Sangria was so good. My friend did get a cocktail and it was very well made. The vibe is very relaxed so it was nice to sit back and enjoy ourselves. -

Cute little place for small plates. The cheesecake and the sorbet were amazing. The food is decent,l enjoyed the cod croquettes, charred broccoli but the shishito peppers were okay. -

Seriously, the most modernly quaint and comfortable Tapas experience. Every single item on their menu is absolutely incredible. The service? Outstanding! The atmosphere was completely perfect. We wandered in, not knowing what to expect, while walking around Manhattan on a hot spring day. What began as a basic need for wine and snacks turned into 3+ hours of insanely good food and comfortable conversation. Do not sleep on this place!! -
Review 6 (2022-08-20 - Rating: 5)
We went here for a small evening snack and drink. For tapas the dishes were bigger than I expected. We got the cauliflower and patatas fritas and they were both delicious. Great for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Friendly service. Overall pleased. -

Amazing food. So glad we found this placeThe gigantes with short rib and hazelnuts was fantastic. So was the crispy pork with fish sauce and cucumbers, and the snow pea with cheese, and the ham! What can I say other than this food is so tasty I wrote my first review!!! -

Went here for dinner with a friend, and had a lot of delicious food! They don’t skimp out on portions, and the vibes were great. If anything the inside area got pretty toasty because of the open kitchen. The dishes we got were:1. Manchego and Marconi almonds — recommend2. Croquetas of the day (Ham) — recommend3. Gambas (Shrimp) — recommend4. Roasted cabbage — do not recommend -
Review 9 (2023-09-08 - Rating: 4)
Tapas food here is good quality, lots of variety and service is fast. However even by NY standards I found this place bit expensive. Be ready to spend about $80-100 per person. -
Review 10 (2023-07-07 - Rating: 4)
The establishment offered a diverse array of Spanish cuisine that showcased the flavors and culinary traditions of the region. Among the various dishes I tried, the standout was undoubtedly the octopus. Cooked to perfection, it was tender, flavorful, and an absolute delight to savor. The restaurant itself exuded a pleasant ambiance, creating a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere. The service provided by the staff was commendable, as they were attentive and accommodating. However, there was one area where the experience fell slightly short: the speed at which the food was served. The dishes took longer than expected to arrive at the table, and although the service was good overall, a quicker turnaround time would have enhanced the dining experience. While some of the dishes fell into the realm of average, there were several standout options that showcased the culinary expertise of the restaurant. Its worth noting that the desserts, unfortunately, proved to be a letdown, failing to leave a lasting impression. Despite this, the overall quality of the food, combined with the pleasant ambiance and attentive service, makes this establishment a worthwhile visit. In conclusion, I would wholeheartedly recommend this Spanish restaurant to those seeking a delightful dining experience. While there were minor shortcomings such as slow food service and underwhelming desserts, the standout dishes and the overall quality of the cuisine make it a destination worth exploring. So, come and indulge in the flavors of Spain, and let the restaurant transport you to a culinary journey that will leave you with fond memories of your visit. -

The cauliflower was incredible. Highly recommend the mushroom toast and PCT as well! -
Review 12 (2024-06-16 - Rating: 4)
Was here for dinner. The food was okay. It took a really long time to come which our server had warned us but it took extra long to come because they gave our food to another table. The server was very apologetic and offer to give us dessert and so we got the churro. We got the octopus it was a littler bitter. The pork loin was good but the ends were a little dry. The patatas and pct was good! -

My girlfriend and I stopped in last minute. I’m honestly shocked it wasn’t packed. Fantastic vibes, spectacular food, and our server was delightful. This was hands down the best tapas I’ve had in NYC. Presentation? 10/10 Wine? 11/10 And let me mention just one more time: vibes 10/10. -

Cute, perfectly dim lighting for a tranquil gathering with family and or friends. Very spacious with table seating and bar seating. We ordered a salad and a shrimp dish and a few beers. We were greeted and served in a timely manner. -

Review 19 (2023-02-13 - Rating: 4)
Debajo serves fabulously delicious food. The wait staff was amazing. They gave us excellent service and attention. The tapas dishes kept on coming. As quickly as each dish arrived, it was consumed before I even thought to take a photo. The colors, aroma and flavor of every dish met the eye and palate delightfully. I was particularly fond of the Little Gem Salad and the cauliflower dish. Amazing! The only problem with Debajo was the very loud music. It was good music, suitable for the style of the restaurant but it was too loud to carry on conversation. Dont people go out to eat to enjoy good drink and food while sharing about life, joy, and culture? Why loud music has become the norm in American restaurants eludes me. Next time Ill get take out. -

A highlight from my time in NYC. We had a great experience on a weekday night… truly wonderful hospitality and the chef was extremely kind and willing when we requested a recipe from a dish we had. Every dish was memorable, the bavette steak in particular was stellar… seared to perfection and the chimichurri and greens served with it made every bite a perfect amalgamation of flavor. Don’t skip dessert – the milk gelato is to die for!!!!! Thank you all for a very lovely dinner. -

Incredible food, incredible service, perfect ambiance! i feel so cozy every time i come here, and the food is always amazing- especially the chistos and the pork belly! can’t recommend this enough if you’re looking for an oasis in midtown. -
Review 22 (2022-11-08 - Rating: 4)
The vibe was easy and great. Food was tasty but a bit salty, I guess that’s the way to make you drink more. My wife and I had a few tapas and enjoyed the meal, but the place is not entirely a tapas bar but more of a drink bar with some light food. Still it’s not bad. -
Review 23 (2022-10-19 - Rating: 5)
Innovative tapas bar who create some nice variations of classic Spanish tapas as I know them. Super relaxed location (it’s in the basement, so easy to miss). They have a small but nice wine menu. My recommendation is to try the Boquerones (smooth lemon notes) or the Broccoli a la Plancha (with an unusual but very nice tahini dressing). The only two things I’ve missed was a good Spanish Brandy and a Cafe at the end. -
Review 24 (2021-05-17 - Rating: 5)
The atmosphere is fantastic, both on their patio and inside. And the food is some of the best Spanish in the area, which includes Mercado at Hudson Yards. Its easy to miss because its kind of below ground (hence the name), but dont. A few highlights are the P-C-T (pan con tomate), which a good Spanish place kind of had to get right, and the pulpo, which is amazingly tasty. The drinks are pretty great too and theyve got a nice selection of aperitifs. -
Review 25 (2021-08-08 - Rating: 5)
Food was amazing! This is like tapas 2.0. Some things are what we love and crave (charcuterie and cheeses, gambas), others are surprising and delightful (PCT, cauliflower, pulpo). Portions are generous, so no need to order the whole menu no matter how much you want to. Just make several trips. -
Review 26 (2022-12-01 - Rating: 4)
Good tapas but not GREAT.Dessert however, was INCREDIBLE. Highly recommended the cheesecake and the ice cream. The place was empty when we were here. Good value for NYC. -
Review 27 (2023-03-05 - Rating: 5)
Ive used Debajo as a meeting spot twice - for lunch and for drinks - and will return again. I am grateful that the wait staff gives us the time to talk without rushing us. The food and drinks are delish. -

Review 29 (2021-05-30 - Rating: 4)
Cute little place down from street level. Open concept kitchen and have bar seats. It was fun to see the chefs prepare the foods. Overall experience was good. Lots of choices to choose from and not only tapas either. Favorite was the Bistec. Cooked just right and was basically able to watch them cook it. Tender and juicy, just enough salt and it came with garlic confit. Smear it on each piece, pop of flavor if you are a garlic lover.Pictures:P-C-T: toasted bread, tomato, garlic, arbequina olive oilTxistos: crispy chistorra sausage roll, salsa RosaColiflor: friends cauliflower, anchovy, garlic, breadcrumbsPulpo: octopus, fennel, citrus, chorizo vinaigretteBistec: 45 day dry aged NY strip, broccolini, mushrooms, serrano vinaigrette, garlic confit -

Have to say, Debajo is one of my favorite spots in the city. Not only is the food superb but the attention and hospitality is on par with the quality. You basically can’t go wrong. Anything you get is gonna be amazing. However I recommend the shrimp and the chicken sandwich -
Review 31 (2022-03-23 - Rating: 5)

Review 32 (2023-08-08 - Rating: 5)
Very good food. Definitely try their Patatas Bravas and their Bavette Steak. If you are staying at the hotel or do not want to wait 40 minutes for the steak, call ahead. Overall, very pleasant atmosphere with ambient lighting and friendly staff! -
Review 33 (2021-03-21 - Rating: 5)
Everything was AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS. You cant go wrong with anything on the menu. Our group of 4 ordered half of the menu and everything was super yummy. But definitely save room for dessert because the dulce de leche mouse is heavenly. -

Review 66 (2022-12-03 - Rating: 4)
Cute tapas spot in Midtown in the downstairs “debajo” space of the hotel. We had the boquerones, chistos, patatas bravas, and romesco cauliflower. All were tasty although some seemed less Spanish and more fusion. Chistos were similar to pigs in a blanket, and the cauliflower had crispy chili flakes.I liked the open concept kitchen and bar area. -

Review 68 (2022-06-23 - Rating: 5)

I am difficult to impress, and I was impressed. All around great. -
Review 70 (2022-07-19 - Rating: 4)
Pricey but decent Spanish tapas in Midtown! The restaurant is tucked away in the basement of a hotel, so going there feels like discovering a hidden gem. Their patatas bravas were good, but the cheese and charcuterie boards were way too small for the price they were charging. In summary, good place for after work beer + tapa, but don’t go there for a full meal. -

Review 82 (2024-06-23 - Rating: 4)
Nice place. Delicious tapas. Its not cheap (considering that they are tapas). But it was very good. Good attention, without shining. Something that is VERY bad for commercial premises in general...they start closing 30 or 40 minutes before closing time and it is as if they were kicking you out. I cant understand it. But in general terms good. A little bit of Spain in the middle of NYC. -
Review 83 (2023-07-18 - Rating: 5)
A house in the top five during a long trip to New York. Why are there so few reviews...? The flavor of every dish..! I heard that it was made by two Michelin star chefs 😏 All kinds of sauces and seasonings are also attractive!I definitely have to visit again.Second visit - It took an incredibly long time for the food to come out. Be sure to ask before ordering... haha -
