This was a great small Italian joint that caught our eye and was totally worth stopping by. I highly recommend sharing some appetizers and trying their espresso martini. The staff is also incredibly attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, wine, and other facets of service. The highlight was the Chicken Amarone and the Arancini -

Very good! We had a reservation and arrived 10 minutes early and they had a table ready quickly! Very much appreciated since it is so cold outside! Chicken parm, bolognese, and salmon were great. Would recommend!! -

Stop reading and run to this restaurant! Best Italian food I’ve ever had! I brought my sister and her friend here when they were visiting me in the city - we stumbled upon it and all three of us had some of the best food we’ve ever had. It was so good, I went back the next night by myself and I regret not going the night after. -

Very nice place, clean and comfortable. Good music at a low volume, great for family. Service is excellent! Carbonara and Cacio e Pepe were great, but the capelini was swimming in oil. -

Service was great, I also love the atmosphere here. I would recommend to order Italian cuisine, they make it to perfection. However, the filet mignon I ordered was rare, the outside was too burnt and bitter. The staff were super nice, they offered a tree dessert and it was delicious. Their white chocolate cake with gelato was excellent. Less than $500 for a party of 8 in NYC. Overall, the restaurant deserves a visit, I would not recommend to order steaks from them tho… -

WOW! This place was phenomenal! Took my wife here for a nice date night while visiting nyc and came across this gem! Amazing nyc food for a reasonable price!First-The restaurant was very clean. Small, but had a cozy, romantic and pleasant vibe to it. It smelled like fresh cooked food the moment you walked in. I made a reservation on open table and got there right on time and was promptly seated 5-10 minutes. While you wait they have a small bar available for drinks which I highly recommend! The staff was probably the best part. Extremely professional, funny, and you can tell they work hard. They all did an amazing job!Second- the food was out of this world! They have a decent sized menu with a lot of amazing dishes to choose from. Me and my wife started off with some salads. I got a Caesar and she got the same. You can tell it’s fresh homemade dressing and it wasn’t to heavy portioned, but was enough to cover the whole salad. For our meals I got the Fusilli Norcia (sweet and hot sausage) and it was honestly top 10 best Italian dishes I’ve ever had. It was a great portion size but not to much. It exploded with flavors and just fresh tasting ingredients. It was presented beautifully. My wife got the pappardelle bolognese and I think that was even better! Generous portion size and it tasted incredible. It was hard not to steal food off her plate! For dessert we got tiramisu and chocolate cake which both were delicious. And ended it with some hot coffee and cappuccino and they were great! My only issue was that there was a good amount of time between courses, so be prepared to wait a little. But for how good everything was. It was worth the wait!I HIGHLY recommend! -

Welcome from Tom started this dinner off on the right foot! We all ordered salad and main course. All fresh and tasty! The photos speak for themselves! Nice outside seating in front of the restaurant and the help was very attentive! Give it a try... youll be happy! We were! -

The crispy calamari was amazing probably one of the best I’ve had. We also ordered chicken parmigiana which was fine, small portion and nothing exciting about it. Dessert was fabulous with crème brûlée. Would definitely go back. Oh yeah the bread is good too. -
Review 10 (2019-07-09 - Rating: 4)
A normal restaurant, nothing thematic, or at least not outstanding. We start with two entries; an octopus and an antipasto. If I have to be critical, I must say that the antipasto was too cold, making it lose flavor to the cheeses and meats, however the dish of very good quality. The octopus —> VERY good, recommended!Dishes:first plate: risotto with jumbo shrimp.Second: linguine with salmon and shrimp. The risotto cooked to perfection, but if I have to go back, I go back for the pasta... its amazing 😱The attention it’s beautiful; all very helpful and attentive with us.Desserts, did not meet my expectations, I recommend desserts far from here.I recommend this place!(The service charge it’s included and it’s for 20%, I agree) -

Review 13 (2024-08-18 - Rating: 5)
A great Italian spot near Theatre District. The owner succeeds in creating an atmosphere of a quant Italian spot, reminiscent of the scene in Moonstruck, thanks to our waiter Alejo. The food was great. We tried the mushroom risotto, spaghetti carbonara with guanciale pork cheeks and veal (Vitello saltimbocca). Flavorful and satisfying, the portions were large and reasonably priced. Our waiter Alejo was very accommodating and greatly added to the atmosphere of the place. We’ll be back. -
Review 14 (2022-12-30 - Rating: 5)
A lovely Italian atmosphere and good value for money Italian specialities.I particularly enjoyed their ruccola pear salad, the carbonara linguine…with a glass of Chianti.Service was friendly and very efficient. We booked through google. -

Cozy little place out of the fray. Service is inconsistent. We ordered CACIO E PEPE 4/5, VITELLO SALTIMBOCCA 3.5/5 (good flavors, but dry), cheese cake 2/5 (we didn’t care for the ricotta).Good wine by glass choices. -
Review 17 (2024-12-26 - Rating: 5)
As others have said, what a GEM. This is a pretty small spot, that I have managed to miss despite living in the area for over 10 years- but wont miss again. The service was close to what you would get in a 5 star restaurant and the food was excellent in both presentation and portion size and taste. We had Brian as our server/manager and he ensured that every thing flowed smoothly - the new owners should be very proud of the product they are putting out.Atmosphere is cute/chic, it wont impress your first date, but your wife would love going here - if that makes sense -

This is such a delightful restaurant right in the theater district. It is charming and really lovely. Very warm and inviting on the inside. We went there for our anniversary, and it did not disappoint at all! The service was friendly, knowledgeable and can only be described as impeccable! They were very customer focused on each table.Every plate we had was fabulous. They add their own twist like hot cherry peppers with my chicken and sausage entre! Yum! I am rarely able to finish a plate but this is so good I finished every bite. The wine list was extensive including by the glass.I think we found a favorite place now that we are back to the theater! A thanks to all the staff for making our anniversary so special! -

Here is a positive restaurant review for Amarone Scarlatto:Amarone Scarlatto Serves Up Amore and Authentic Italian CuisineIf youre in the mood for an unforgettable Italian dining experience, look no further than Amarone Scarlatto. From the moment you step through the doors, the warm and romantic ambiance envelops you, setting the stage for an evening of amore. The menu is a journey through Italys diverse regional cuisines, with classic dishes executed to perfection. We started with the Pollo in Crusta and Scalopine Al Marsala, and both were cooked flawlessly. The marsala sauce was a rich, savory delight complementing the tender chicken, while the veal was pounded thin and sautéed to retain its delicate flavor and texture. But the highlights didnt stop there. For dessert, we indulged in the creamy cheesecake and the heavenly tiramisu - each bite more decadent than the last. The tiramisus espresso-soaked ladyfingers melded seamlessly with the lightly sweetened mascarpone for a dessert that was both indulgent and surprisingly light. What truly sets Amarone Scarlatto apart, however, is the impeccable service. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to ensure our evening was memorable. From wine pairing recommendations to crumb sweeping between courses, every detail was thoughtfully executed. With its sumptuous cuisine, romantic ambiance, and exceptional service, Amarone Scarlatto is a must-visit for any Italian food lover seeking an authentic taste of the Old Country right here at home. Mangia bene! -

We dined at 3:00 on a Sunday. The friendly staff and incredible aroma made us happy we decided on this NYC restaurant with a family ambiance from hanging up your coat to treating our large party like we were family! We will make this our NYC must go to stop. -

We ate here on the last night of our visit to NYC and would do it again! Incredible experience overall, could not recommend Amarone enough! -

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience dining here while in town to see a Broadway show. The restaurant was conveniently located near our hotel and the theatre. The service was excellent and our meal was delicious! We shared a bottle of wine along with our pasta dishes. We even ordered dessert. It was a lovely experience and we had plenty of time to walk to our show afterwards. -

Food and service were wonderful. It was our anniversary and the staff went out of their way to make our night special. Food was delicious. Arancini were amazingly tender. The lasagna was great, ad was the lobster ravioli special. Prices were in line with NYC and restaurant was busy but not overly crowded for a Friday night. Highly recommend -
Review 32 (2023-01-10 - Rating: 5)
We had dinner here before going to a Broadway show, which was very close to the theater we were going to. It was also my sisters birthday and they did up her dessert plate with a candle and happy birthday on the plate. The food was very good but our waiter was really what made it a great experience. He was attentive, helpful and patient. The pear salad was excellent as a starter. The rest of our dishes were good but Im picky when it comes to Italian food. I tasted the salmon dish and thought it was delicious. -
Review 33 (2023-09-06 - Rating: 5)
The food is very good, the service was outstanding and got our food out real fast and accurately. I really like that the portions are enough and not exaggerated or excessive, so that was awesome too. Well certainly go back! -

Looking for a great little restaurant before the theater…. Look no further. Amarone Scarlatto has been serving delicious Italian food for years. Service is always impeccable. Chicken Parmesan is one of the best around. Portions are big and prices are reasonable, especially for the quality. I just love this place. -

Great Italian food. Our server recommended us a bottle of wine and I can say, he has a good taste. It was a very good wine. The atmosphere is great. The place looks nice and cozy. I like to thank Teddys guide for recommending us this restaurant. We really enjoyed our time. I cant wait to taste this wine again. -

Review 42 (2024-06-06 - Rating: 5)
Just moved to the neighborhood and my family is classic Italian so wasn’t expecting much. I have a high bar for Italian foods. The chicken scarpiello blew me away, nothing was heavy even though it came in a rosemary creme sauce. Broccoli Rabe wasn’t oily at all (huge refreshing change!) and the service was just wonderful. Waiters are friendly and attentive without being pushy and were present/inserted themselves at exactly the right time. I’m so excited that this can be a staple for me so close to my home. My only regret is I didn’t try the pasta but there’s always next time.Photo is of the pistachio tartufo.I’ll definitely be back and be sharing this place with friends. Gratzie! -
Review 43 (2023-03-13 - Rating: 5)
My date and I walked into the restaurant on a Saturday evening before a Broadway show. We did not have reservations and was initially denied a table. The maitre’d and a waiter stopped us before leaving and offered us a small table near the bar. It turned out to be an excellent experience. We received all the service and more, the food and drink were great, and a seemingly negative experience turned into a very positive one. Hope to return to Amarone Scarlatto again and again! -
Review 44 (2022-02-20 - Rating: 5)

Review 45 (2022-10-21 - Rating: 5)
Great place! Hosted a party of around twenty people after a Javits conference. Tom was super helpful and the entire staff was amazing! My group talked all day afterwards about how great the food was and raved about the staff. Tom even called me to remind me to pick the appetizers as I told him I would be super busy running a booth and forget. Great place and we will all be back soon! -

AMAZING! Myself nor my girlfriend are vegetarian but we ordered vegetarian dishes (gnocchi & pumpkin ravioli) and HOLY RAVIOLI it was so amazing! Melted in our mouths. Literally food that makes you smile and your heart happy. The drinks were also amazing. We had some of the martinis and wine. The service was wonderful and the staff is so sweet and welcoming. We truly felt like we were treated like family during our short time there! NYC isn’t somewhere you usually return to the same restaurants but I most certainly will return here! -
Review 52 (2023-07-11 - Rating: 5)
Food was delicious. I wanted vegetarian, gluten and cow dairy free food and ordered a salad, Barbabietole e Caprino, (beets, greenbeans, goat cheese, and walnuts) and roasted potatoes. The roasted potatoes were amazing- so flavorful and cooked to perfection. I thought Id be hungry but after eating the salad I didnt even finish all the roasted potatoes. Salad was also delicious. -

Review 55 (2018-12-02 - Rating: 5)
Enjoyed a delicious meal at Amarone last night. The staff was attentive and kind. A warm ambience. Food was absolutely delicious. My husband had the seafood special with homemade squid ink pasta. He was treated to a lobster tail, scallops, shrimp, mussels....it was phenomenal (and an incredible deal, it turned out!). The staff specially prepared food for our unadventurous 5 year old, and she cleaned the plate. The plentiful mussels in tomato broth were a hit. I relished my bucatini. We had such a nice night... Thanks for feeding these Minnesotans-we will be back! -
Review 56 (2021-04-09 - Rating: 5)

Review 57 (2022-07-03 - Rating: 5)
This was the most professional food experience Ive ever had. Every dish was absolutely fantastic. The fish was cooked perfectly, the pasta dishes were sublime, and every aspect of every dish was the best it could be.It was my friends first time crying after eating a dish because he wished there was more to eat. Thats an amazing accomplishment.I will always recommend this place to everyone. -
Review 58 (2018-11-11 - Rating: 5)
Got in early for our reservation with no problem at all. seating was a little tight but not uncomfortable - place was so popular that there were people waiting at the door to have a table! wine selection is impressive and food came out quickly. staff was excellent and the owner was walking around to make sure everything was running smoothly. -

Review 61 (2019-07-10 - Rating: 5)
Walked in and instantly felt at home, came here with a group from out of state. A perfect blend of Italian and New York culture. Started with a traditional manhattan by Inna who was very knowledgeable and friendly on cocktail recommendations. The owner Tony greeted us with recommendations and made us feel welcome. Great portions, kind service. Will definitely come back here again. Best Italian in Manhattan. -

Review 64 (2022-03-06 - Rating: 4)
It has a cute Italian flair for sure. We sat next to the door and we were very cold and had to sit inside with the jacket. Next time we def pick a different table. Service was good. The food was delivered pretty fast and was delicous. For dessert I had a coffee, which was not good at all and disappointing. They had a great spotify playlist which fit the flair, but was often interrupted with advertisment. Bathroom was clean. We would come back. -

Just left this beautiful little restaurant. It was a serendipitous find. The service was outstanding and although we only had cocktails and dolci, we would definitely return based on the picture perfect food we saw being served around us and the spot on service we received. This is a friendly and great atmosphere. We were here 1 week before 9/11, really enjoyed it. We were from Wisconsin and it was after the theater, was late and after dinner, owners came to table and had after dinner drink with us, it was Frangeleco. Just found the business card. We stayed at the Best Western and they recommended it. I think I still have name of one of the gentlemen we met Tony Marco, not sure on that but have the name. Cant wait to go here when we get to New York. -

If you’re looking for an amazing Italian restaurant to go to before a show, this is your spot! The food was impeccable, the service was amazing - it felt like we got a little slice of Italy here. I really appreciated the service here, everyone was very kind and attentive, even as the dinner rush built up. -
Review 70 (2021-07-16 - Rating: 5)
Scarlatto is a culinary experience for a fantastic price. My only regret is having too small of a stomach to try more appetizers and entrees. We started with the meatballs and the calamari, both out of this world. I got the rigatoni carbonara and savored every bite, while my partner had the astounding herb-grilled chicken. Our desserts, the raspberry sorbet and the tiramisu were presented deliciously and tasted refreshingly tasty on a hot day. We want to come here every week now, and we might! -

The food here is authentic . I was happy with my meal and I enjoyed the pleasant service . The only downside is the graffiti surrounding the building and the sketchy people walking by because of an in/out house around the corner from it. -

When the fish tastes like the ocean, you know its fresh. Thats the best word to describe their food: fresh. I had the Grilled Calamari followed by the Grilled Salmon. I swapped the potatoes for the spinach and was greatly pleased. Delicious. On top of that, Iryna is an excellent waitress! She is extremely personable, knowledgeable and nice. I will be back and hopefully will bring friends or a date. -

Was here a few months ago for a date night. Being close to the theatre means its usually crowded. Food was good but nothing incredible, except for the calamari which was great and super crispy. But didnt quite meet the level of the prices theyre charging. -

I have eaten at Scarlatto >20 times over 8 years. Simple, but attractive enough decor. Warm atmosphere. Very cozy during the winter time. Always has a busy flux of patrons. Older, more sophisticated crowd: age range 25- 45 business/professional and 25- 75 theater crowd. Very good all around (quality of food, price, location, decor) and one of the better theater district restaurants. Their antipasta is great!! -

I have been coming here for more than 20yrs. Even though its in the tourist area enclave its really just a great little local italian speciality restaurant. Its not a red sauce house, but more of a fine Italian dining experience like when it was a special occasion and youre having veal chops or something more special instead of bolognese. They do have some classics the whole menu Ive tasted many times over with great satisfaction and they have the accompanying wine to make it extra special. The fish is wonderful as well as the seafoods, meats and pastas on the menu. Listen to the specials because theres always something extra delicious to entice you off the menu with a wonderful glee to yourself for being adventurous. I have brought many out of town guests and diehard foodies, all have been happily impressed, for some its on their list when in town. The service is great and everyone is friendly and attentive. Leave room for dessert because they do that well here too! The atmosphere is charming and intimate but not confining. While it wont be a cheap night, you will leave not feeling fleeced and looking forward to your next visit. -

Walked in and was greeted nicely, when I got seated it was weird because I felt like that while staff was staring at me. The food was excellent though. Also while I ate I felt like the staff was hovering over me the whole time. But otherwise a great place to get great Italian food -

I love this place. Great food and the service was excellent. I especially enjoy the wine list because it has a nice selection of Italian reds including an Amarone by the glass. A pricey but worth it occasionally $ 21. -

I lived in NYC over 10 years ago and dined at Amarone restaurant often. Their fresh pasta dishes are amazing. When I visit NYC, I try to dine here when I can. I ran in the NYC marathon yesterday and was craving their pasta for my post race recovery meal. When I arrived at the restaurant, I discovered that they no longer had my favorite dish on the menu. Would you believe that they went out of their way and made it for me? I have been a loyal customer and am now a lifelong customer. Thank you Amarone restaurant for another amazing meal! -

We especially like this restaurant because it opens before 5PM. We usually go to a matinee and try to eat early so that we can catch an early train home. I wish more restaurants opened this early. The food and choices are always good and the service is friendly and capable. -

From start to finish our lunch at Scarlattos was outstanding. Ben our server was extremely gracious and congenial. Our lunch consisted of Gnocchi, Ravioli di Granaturco, Lasagna and Ravioli di Zucca all being delicious beyond compare. Ben was sweet enough to bring my two granddaughters a Shirley temple to have with their lunch. Of course our cocktails were just as special. The next time we are in NY for a Broadway show we will be back for more. -

Went on a whim prior to a Sunday matinee after seeing the Zagat review sticker in the window. It was a great choice! Not the fanciest place, and the tables are close, but it the food that won us over. The penne with the osso bucco chunks was amazing, pasta was perfectlly al dente. Spouse had the salmon with caramelized onions, another winner. These were pre-show specials, only 14.95. You cant go wrong. -
