We had a delightful couple of hours a few nights ago at Brick Wine Bar, Fernando Hernandezs new place in a terrific location on Clinton Street in the Lower East Side. For many years Fernando was the wonderful, utterly gracious and knowledgable manager of Bar Jamon, the citys best Spanish wine bar which is connected to Casa Mono, the Michelin starred restaurant. This time hes specializing in world wines, all priced incredibly reasonably in a friendly, casual atmosphere. Brick also serves a menu of excellent tapas and small plates. This place is a real gem and much needed in the LES. Drop in, relax, try a couple of different wines and a delicious bite or two. Its only a matter of time before Brick is regarded as the friendliest little wine bar in the City.

What a fantastic wine bar. I had been eyeing it for months before they finally opened their doors earlier this year. It exceeded my expectations and has really become a mainstay for me and my friends.First: the wines. Fernando has worked very hard to curate this wine selection. The price points are SO approachable, and you’ll find incredible wines from regions that aren’t typically sourced from. If this intimidates you, no problem, Fernando is a Michelin star trained sommelier, so just tell him what you tend to pick up from your wine shop and he’ll have just the wine in mind for you. I prefer to get the quartino size because the pours are $1-3 more for about another half glass of wine, and their pineapple spritz is amazing.Next: the atmosphere. As a Clinton street resident, this part was important. I have plenty of neighborhood friends, and so far this summer, brick has left their doors pretty wide open, so you get to see the bustle of the city and can often flag down a friend you might find walking on the street. Fernando and Andrew will talk to you like you’re old friends. The music is fantastic, and they take care to keep it very clean. Domingo always greets you with a water and a smile.Last but certainly not least: the food. Andrew has definitely had his ear to the ground in terms of listening to what the people of Clinton street want. The menu is ever-evolving at this point and he’s always testing out new things while keeping the core of the dish intact. In recent memory, my favorite new addition (no pictures because I inhaled them) might be chips with jamón, shaved manchego, and chili oil that are just to die for.I really can’t wait to see this place become a mainstay and a staple for the people of New York. It’s hard to find a place this dedicated to service and vibes post-pandemic and I know they’re gonna go far just for that!

Brick is one of the most exciting, inviting and comfortable wine bars in the entire city. Fernando and Richie treat every one of their customers like family. Their diverse selection of mostly natural, family owned wines is incredible and they’re priced extremely fairly. I often enjoy going in there, watching whatever old/cult classic film they’re playing on the big screen (side wall) and letting the guys tell me what to eat and drink. They have not missed a beat with their recommendations yet!
