They say first impressions last! Well, my first wasn’t as good as my second. I had a much better experience second time around. The seating was good. I made reservations so there was no wait time. Servers were polite and offered great service. Food was great! The wine and champagne suggestions were off the rock! I will be back! -

Went for lunch but it was awesome. I had prosciutto and mozzarella for antipasto and the ham was so tender and tasteful, so as the mozzerella. The pasta was great too. There were great selection of wine and it said BAROLO bar at the bar at the entrance which I would definitely like to try next time. You will need reservation to get a table. -

I cant say enough good things about Maialino. First, the staff is top notch from the moment you walk through the door, to your server and wine service--impeccable. Food allergies? No problem and always attentive to my needs. As for the food, as an admitted carnivor that eats super low carb, lets just say that I was over the moon with their selection, quality products and perfect execution. Ive had nearly all of their main courses, but to this day, always look forward to the roasted pig. Just wow! Another amazing meal at Maialino. -

One liner review - hype over Cacio e Pepe was overrated. We heard so many good things about this place especially about Cacio e Pepe (literally cheese and pepper) and Amatriciana pastas. We ordered both and while I enjoyed amatriciana I was quite disappointed in cacio e pepe. It reminded me of a mac n cheese in pasta. Some reviews say cacio e pepe pasta was too salty but the saltiness was just about right, but it was rather a bit bland. Not sure if it needed more talk but it was just ok.I enjoyed the texture of Amatriciana pasta more. Their quanciale in this pasta was the best I have tasted ever, very rich in flavor and both crisp/fatty at the same time.Service wasn’t particularly friendly but practical and professional. They don’t get tips so they don’t have to be friendly.Tip: Last-minute booking is pretty doable. I called the day before my intended visit during peak vacation period and they were able to squeeze me a spot at 5:30 PM. Call them and see if they can make you a seating.I took out one star because I expected a lot more in Cacio e Pepe pasta. -

We had dinner here to celebrate a birthday. The food was superb. The service was a bit slow because they were busy, but the servers were very friendly and courteous. Will come again. -

Maialino is such a great restaurant, so much delicious food, very friendly staff. The malfatti was absolutely wonderful, I had it many years ago, and never forgot it. Cozy spot, it looks great. The tiramisu was excellent as well. Great list of Italian wines, not to be missed. -

Top 5 meal of all time!!!.. get the duck, best of my life. We had a large group and they were able to seat us early. We had a Cabernet/ sangiovese blend that was amazing too.The carbonara was also the best carbonara Ive ever had. We also tried (and liked) the squid ink pasta, tortellini, and lamb meat balls. Lastly, we had lemoncello, which was not my favorite, but thats only bc its an acquired taste, not a bad product. That all said, I went and thanked the chef, personally, for the fantastic meal. Share with multiple people so you can try everything!By the way, tip is included in the price, FYI. -

Great for brunch! The pastry basket was delicious and the Toffee Brioche was amazing! Get the Pork Skin Sausage Biscuit. So delicious! Service was great! -
Review 9 (2019-12-16 - Rating: 5)
Food was delicious. The pastas, salads, and pork were especially good. Service was really great, they go out of their way to make your experience very enjoyable. You don’t feel rushed and can enjoy your meal and the ambiance. -

For me this is the best Italian restaurant in NYC. My big favorite is their Bolognese. The sauce is just amazing, i dont know whats the differnce but tastes so special to me... Nothing has beaten theirs. Their Carbonara is good too! The place is very crowded, so need a booking in advance. Great service as well. -

Sashank, one of the servers, made our experience so wonderful. We (group of 4) did a walk-in on a Saturday night around 7pm. We first sat at the bar and then was able to move to a table. Sashank was working the bar area and answered all of our questions and made fantastic recommendations. Something about how he took his time, genuinely recommended the dishes, never rushed us, and kept his eyes on our table and proactively brought out what we needed — it made a huge difference in our dining experience. After we moved to a table he later came back to check on us before leaving. Our friends and I decided that we can make it our neighborhood meet up spot on the nights he’s working so we can again have a great dining experience!Food:- Great: Insata, veal tonnato, bolognese are my fav- Eh: Didn’t love the lamb shoulder (it’s super tender and generous portion - but didn’t have any special element to it), bucatini was so great. -
Review 12 (2019-09-21 - Rating: 5)
Amazing food and service! The ricotta, corn, tomato, and basil angolotti is out of this world - excellent sweetness from the corn, a sauce thats rich in flavor with good acidity but still eats light, and perfect cooked pasta. The kouign amman and toffee brioche bun were also delicious pastries, expertly done. All of the staff was very kind and helpful, and the interior is spacious with an old world feel to the Italian photos on the wall, and a lot of nice windows for good daytime lighting. -
Review 13 (2018-02-19 - Rating: 5)
A must go for Italian fares. Atmosphere is trendy but not fake, restaurant is both spacious and snug thanks to the classic wood furniture and checkered tablecloths. We ate at the bar which allowed us to enjoy the bar snacks and the full dinner menu. The fried potato skins were surprising, with a bit of creamy pecorino and chillies. The vegetable tempura was light and original, with fennel and salsify if Im not mistaken. The pasta were fabulous. Al dente, with some cracked pepper and pecorino, and bits of guanciale, sort of Italian bacon, salty, powerful, crispy and melting at the same time. So good. Wine selection is very interesting but - extremely - expensive, its a shame. Cocktails are not worth your time. Service is friendly and professional. No tipping establishment. -
Review 14 (2018-08-30 - Rating: 4)
We love this place so much. Top quality ingredients ( mozzarella buffala is so good) and originality in the recipes. I love the carbonara with the crispy pork and the strong pepper, and my friend had the chance to taste a wonderful corn ravioli with a yellow tomato sauce... an amazing sweet/sour contrast! The only weak points of maialino are the very short lunch menu, the price, and the success (difficult to get a table on friday and saturday). If you go there, dont miss the torta de la nonna as the dessert !! Its a must ! -
Review 15 (2017-02-11 - Rating: 5)
Went for breakfast. We shared each menu. But their volume were enough for Japanese. Also, service and taste was great! -
Review 16 (2023-05-10 - Rating: 5)
Came here last night and was pleasantly surprised by how delicious every bite was. Also the service and sommelier were SO lovely. Sometimes it can be hard to find amazing restaurants in this area of town but damn this will be a go to for us. The pastas were amazing and everything was seasoned perfectly. The wine list is also beautifully curated, we loved it! -
Review 17 (2018-02-11 - Rating: 4)
Service was very good but the food was a bit on the salty side. -
Review 18 (2019-01-15 - Rating: 5)
Delicious set of unique courses including grilled octopus. Extensive wine offering too. -
Review 19 (2023-05-17 - Rating: 5)
The new Maialino is tiny, but mighty versus the previous location neat Gramercy Park. Excellent food and service. Just the wine selection by the glass could be better, mixing well known regions (that have better quality) and the less known regions (which are the only current offering). Green asparagus with egg, was excellent. Although I would have opted for white asparagus as this is the season. -
Review 20 (2023-07-14 - Rating: 5)
So glad to have this place back again! The bucatini is not to be missed, and the off-menu gricia is also exceptional if they have it! Surprising standouts were the chicken liver toast and the salad with breadcrumbs and anchovy. Somm gave us a great bottle rec in our price list. The space itself is tinier than I anticipated but cozy. Prices are on par with the quality and the neighborhood. -
Review 21 (2017-01-24 - Rating: 4)
I recently went for dinner (we were a party of 3). Things started off well, we were say quickly and the waiter promptly attended to our orders. The atmosphere is very rustic, a little busy and the clientele were young. We ordered a salad to share, and each ordered an entree. I had the Chicken (which came highly recommended by the waiter), however there wasnt nearly enough sauce. The chicken was tender and flavorful, but strange My father ordered pasta with clam sauce, and his portion of pasta was SO incredibly small that he ate half of my dinner too! The difference in the serving sizes between our three entrees was crazy! The food was average in flavor, OK in presentation and all around just not what we were looking forward to. Perhaps we ordered the wrong dishes, and this was not the average experience in this restaurant, however, I would not recommend the restaurant to anyone I know. -
Review 22 (2020-03-08 - Rating: 4)
Food was very good, service was quick and polite, the restaurant was a tad noisy for my taste but overall a great atmosphere.Staff were knowledgeable about difference in dishes and preferences and they treated us well on our anniversary. Its losing one star for supremely poor table placement thats effectively in the middle of their walking space. I understand cramming one more table in, but do your eaters and staff a favor and dont do that. -
Review 23 (2019-02-10 - Rating: 4)
We walked in on a Thursday night, the place was crowded, but I love when the hostess does not say “no” to you. We did not have a reservation, and they were able to accommodate us. From then on everything else worked out great, the cocktails were delicious, they have a serious Italian wine list, the menu is peppered with a wide variety of food. I had the tripe, shared a salad and had the Broddo. Service is impeccable and I will definitely look forward to going back soon. -
Review 24 (2020-03-17 - Rating: 5)
Had a great birthday weekend in the city and stopped here for dinner. We were a table for 2 and loved the option of quarter pours, so we could each have a glass and a half of wine without drinking a full bottle. The pasta dishes was delicious. We split two apps and two regular size pasta portions. My favorites of the night were the lamb meatballs and rigatoni. It was just the right amount of food and drink without breaking the bank. -
Review 25 (2023-01-23 - Rating: 5)
Perfectly captures the flavours and spirit of a great Italian meal. And the best service we had in NY! Great wines too. Not cheap but worth it. Highly recommended -
Review 26 (2023-07-04 - Rating: 5)
Maialino serves very high quality Italian food in a refined atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful. Having the Maialino wine bar just across the hall is an added bonus of visiting this great restaurant -
Review 27 (2019-04-29 - Rating: 5)
Great location and atmosphere for a group dinner. The staff was very accommodating to resolve a delay with our reservation. I would come back just for the hospitality. But lets talk the food... it was delicious! If I could fit more courses, i would have tried them all :-) The good news is this just means i get to come back. -
Review 28 (2022-11-27 - Rating: 5)
This is a more intimate (and somehow more European feeling) space than the original, serving a concentrated menu of favorites. The wine and service are still excellent. The bucatini and bread were exactly as I remembered them. -
Review 29 (2018-06-12 - Rating: 5)
If you like pork, you will LOVE this restaurant. I sure did. The Malfatti is a one-of-a-kind dish with such a rich and delicious flavor, youll remember it forever. The server recommended the dish to me, and I hereby recommend it to you. And as other reviewers have noted, they actually have very reasonable prices on wine.If you want to be a pro, eat at Maialino and then head across the lobby and watch some jazz at the Rose Bar. Perfect evening. -
Review 30 (2015-07-13 - Rating: 5)
The food and wine at Maialino was delicious, of course, but what really made the difference between my 4 or 5 star rating was the service. I had reserved the table for a birthday celebration and the restaurant staff went above and beyond to ensure it was a memorable occasion. Though it can be a little noisy when the dining room is full, the atmosphere was warm and inviting. The food was great and I look forward to returning to try more of the menu. -
Review 31 (2018-05-20 - Rating: 4)
An absolutely delicious and beautiful 🌳restaurant for a special dinner. The cheese 🧀 and meat 🥩 selections are super tasty and the pasta tastes 🍝homemade and is seasoned perfectly. Our only issue was that we ordered a bottle of wine 🍾and it disappeared after the initial glasses 🍷were poured so we were left searching for it while enjoying our apps and entrees. Overall it’s a beautiful location overlooking Gramercy Park and the food is superb! -
Review 32 (2018-06-02 - Rating: 5)
Honestly one of the best dining experiences of my life. The food was great, but the sommelier Cory Holt was even better. He was incredible. He paired the most amazing wines that complemented our dishes just perfectly. Each wine was delicious with incredible depth and he was able to interpret and predict our wine tastes in just a few descriptive words. Will definitely be returning, but only when he works (5-close) Monday through Friday I’m told. Thank you Cory! -
Review 33 (2023-07-21 - Rating: 5)
Some of the best Italian and service in New York! The bolognese and Tonnato were unreal. And the tiramisu is fab!Bartenders are super knowledgeable as well. -
Review 34 (2019-10-12 - Rating: 5)
One of the best meals I’ve ever had. The staff was all extremely knowledgeable and clearly enjoy good food. The Fig salad was perfectly balanced, the tortelli were little pillows of world peace and the tiramisu was decadent. Completely worth the money and worth going to. -
Review 35 (2016-10-01 - Rating: 5)
Is a great restaurant in all aspects, I already cant wait for my next visit.I came here last night for a dinner for 2. It was easy to get to, and located in a neighborhood filled with lots of night life activity on every corner. As soon as we walked it, it felt a little like; the smell of delicious authentic food, and the decor. The main room is a bit tight, I personally think that when restaurants place tables so close to each other you can hear the other peoples conversations and vice versa, but it actually didnt take away from the experience. There is another room on the main floor and one on the basement as well. Not sure if you need to rent a party to sit in them.We started off with two beef and one chicken. They were very good!! beef was my favorite. For the entree we both ordered the . I had it with mashed potatoes and my boyfriend substituted it with rice and beans. They werent very generous with the rice but it didnt matter cause we got sooo full!! I have to admit, when we got our plates, I wasnt sure if my boyfriend was still going to be hungry because the size of the steak seemed small and portion of rice too. The steak was thick, and satisfied our appetite perfectly. We absolutely loved their music choice. I told the waiter that they were playing one of my boyfriends favorite songs and he mentioned they travel to all countries with their music- not just Cuban music.Although there were so many good reviews about the , we didnt get a chance to try them. But Im coming back to try them for sure! -
Review 36 (2019-03-05 - Rating: 4)
Pasta was delicious, one of the items we ordered was a little too raw for our liking but they let us exchange it for something else.Waitstaff could be a bit friendlier but the food and ambiance were nice. I prefer places that make me feel like I have no idea how to order correctly tbh -
Review 37 (2015-11-15 - Rating: 5)
I had an awesome brunch at Maialino. The granola and the eggs pepe i cacio were both delicious: they managed to make two simple breakfast dishes way better without making them unrecognizable. Not only the food is perfect, but the service is super friendly and helpful, the decoration is interesting and the place cozy, and the views of Gramercy park are great. The only downside is that their coffee is surprisingly bad: I tried both drip and French press and Im disappointed. If youre willing to ignore that, this place is best of its class. -
Review 38 (2013-12-28 - Rating: 5)
The food has a delicious simplicity to it that just amplifies the technique and flavor that the chefs bring to each dish. Highlights of the meal were the the peppardele with freshly made pasta and the pumpkin custard for dessert that I could eat every day for the rest of my life. The bread baked in house to start the dinner was like an amazing combination of focaccia and croissants. The waitress let us sample wines to find just the right pairing and the staff was superbly attentive. -
Review 39 (2017-06-26 - Rating: 4)
Let me start by saying that they have best sauvignon blanc Ive ever tasted. Everyone else in my party lived their wine too.The cacio e pepe is a must try here. The paparelle ala bolognese was good too. We were a bit disappointed with the dearth of vegetarian options to choose from. The server recommended making one of the dishes vegetarian. Overall the food was good but I did not think it was worth the price. We waited about an hour for dinner on the weekend since we didnt have a reservation. The time wasnt hard to kill in the hotel lobby nearby with a fireplace and couches. They have common tables that you can just find a spot at and get served there. Quite surprising but turned out to be a practical remedy to shorten wait times. -
Review 40 (2023-03-18 - Rating: 5)
Loved everything! Inside was beautiful and our server, Amy, was so great and fun. I got the caccio Pepe and cherry gelato for desert. We also got the burata and mushrooms to split. Will definitely go back! -
Review 41 (1990-12-31 - Rating: 5)
This is, without a doubt, one of the finest restaurants in New York City. Danny Meyers knows how to make the dining experience special. The decorating, while seemingly paradoxical, is rustic and modern. The service is casual and elegant while being very attentive. The food is simple yet exquisite. I had the fried green tomatoes...Oh my god. Warning...if you try it, you will be hooked! -
Review 42 (2023-08-04 - Rating: 5)
Top tier service, sophisticated and warm atmosphere. The girls and I sat at the bar and had a few drinks. The bartender and all of the wait staff were friendly, polite and professional. One of the best espresso Martinis I’ve ever had. Speaks volumes because I’ve had quite the fair share of espresso martinis in NYC. The bartender was a blond guy with shaggy hair and I wanted to personally recognize him! He made our party happy! I can’t wait to try their renowned Italian food next time! -
Review 43 (2019-11-17 - Rating: 5)
Good place for brunch. The pastry basket is divine; I had the best croissant Ive had in New York here. The lemon muffin was also very good. The carbonara scrambled eggs is delicious and very creamy. Bucatini amatriciana had good bite and rich flavor. Hot chocolate is mediocre. -
Review 44 (2017-11-02 - Rating: 5)
One of the best Italian places in NYC! My party tried a sampling menu at the suggestion of the maitre d, even had a desert platter. Some of the best food Ive ever had. Everything was fantastic and the staff was quick and attentive to the needs of our large party. Will be going back on my next trip to NYC! -
Review 45 (2020-02-23 - Rating: 5)
Great dinning experience. Quality serving team and knowledgeable wine staff. Worth the $$$. Duck sausage with rigatoni- excellent! Squid ink pasta dish-excellent! Zeppolies-excellent! -
Review 46 (2018-09-10 - Rating: 4)
Amazing Italian food. Cacio e Pepe was a little salty, however the ravioli my husband got was finger licking good. It’s pricey but worth it for a nice night out in the city. Wine list was extensive too. -
Review 47 (2023-08-12 - Rating: 5)
It has been five years since I ate at mMaialino on an anniversary trip to NYC with my then partner. This place has lived rent free in my mind ever since. Back then, this stretched my budget, and it was a treat to go out and eat at a restaurant like this. It was a great excuse to get dressed up, and live the good life. The pork butt was perfectly cooked, and I think about how the fat on the outside feels and turned into a rind often. Im hungry now thinking about it. The service was superb, and would hands down repeat. Maialino is ideal for celebration or a night to you want to remember. -
Review 48 (2019-08-30 - Rating: 4)
Good food. Good service. Been here numerous times with friends and family and would definitely recommend, particularly lunch or brunch as prices are a bit more reasonable for what you are getting. Making a reservation is recommend as at times it can get rather full and there will be a wait. -
Review 49 (2011-01-01 - Rating: 4)
Amazing food that is authentic roman cuisine. the pastas were superb, and the namesake suckling pig is a must. they have a reasonably broad wine list that is fairly inexpensive. the service was very good. -
Review 50 (2018-12-22 - Rating: 5)
Outstanding experience from start to finish!! We began at the bar where the tender recommended a nice wine and cider and a selection of delicious cheeses. We had a reservation at 5:30 and at that point the line for a table had grown considerably. The hostess came to the bar and got us and took us to our table. We started with the prosciutto and burata as well as the lamb meatballs which were both incredible. For the main dish we had the special of the spaghetti with lobster and the signature dish maialino al forno which is a roast suckling pig with rosemary potatoes. The pasta was without a doubt the best pasta dish either of us have ever had and the roast pig is definitely worth the trip. The service was second to none but I can’t stress this enough, COME FOR THE FOOD!! -
Review 51 (2016-07-21 - Rating: 4)
Stopped in for a drink at the bar a few weeks ago during the day. Great bartender, expensive drinks (or maybe not so expensive considering that the gratuity is built into the price), and a really nice view of the park. It would be nice if they had some nuts or something like that to snack on. That said, I love that they chill the beer glasses (that makes me very happy). -
Review 52 (2016-09-07 - Rating: 4)
(This review is for the breakfast service) Plenty of great options on the breakfast menu; should satisfy most people. The food was fresh and portions big enough - most importantly, the food tastes great. Attentive service; OK value for money; good atmosphere. -
Review 53 (2019-10-06 - Rating: 5)
Great service and attention to details. Food is fantastic. I love the tip included in the price, but I wouldve tip more if there was a spot to fill in on CC receipt. We were headed to a concert, and they accomodated our timing perfectly. Thanks -
Review 54 (2017-07-27 - Rating: 4)
We had weekday breakfasts and weekend brunch there. The quality of food and service is exceptional. The down side is that the tables are placed too close to each other. I could easily listen to the conversation at the next table. -
Review 55 (2019-05-27 - Rating: 5)
After a food-centric holiday weekend (Red Rooster, Loring Place, Bowery Meat Company, Legacy Records), it was easy to think we had had our fill. Then we capped it all off with a visit to Maialino. Wow; it was the best yet. Literally everything that came out was delicious. Insalata, prosciutto and mozzarella, three types of primi or pasta, and two entrees (sea bass and suckling pig). Tiramisu to top it all off. We were especially impressed by and grateful for Jordan, our server. It was his first week as a server, but we would have never known unless we had asked. He helped us pick out all of our dishes and his selections did not disappoint. He was also extremely patient with our lively crowd, answering the most basic of questions with a kind manor. Highly recommend! P.S. the sommelier made some great recommendations as well even though we didnt end up ordering any bottles. -
Review 56 (2016-05-12 - Rating: 5)
We were staying in the hotel for two nights and decided to get a brunch reservation on our second day. The concierge desk made our reservation for us and we did have to wait a few minutes for a table when we checked in at the hostess stand. I saw on their website that you can also make reservations on-line! They came and got us from the hotel lobby when our table was ready.I didnt partake in any cocktails but, people in my party did and they enjoyed them. I do have to say they looked delicious and were presented in an ascetically pleasing way. The service was impeccable from start to finish.I ordered the fritatta which comes with your choice of side and I opted for the yogurt. My guy ordered the chicken dish with mushroom on it which I believe was the chicken cutlet. We were brought bread and oil for dipping. The fritatta was fluffy and the asparagus had a nice al dente crisp to it. I added some salt and pepper to it but, that is probably just my taste buds. The side of yogurt was almost better than the fritatta. The granola and the honey just made this dish that much better. Its definitely a dish you are thinking I could make this at home and then it always fall flat because it is never as good as the restaurant.I also sampled the chicken cutlet and I was immediately jealous that I didnt order it. The sauce and the mushrooms were plentiful on top and the flavors were all authentic Italian. This place is pricey but, I have paid more for a lesser quality meal in NYC which I am sure we all have. -
Review 57 (2012-05-05 - Rating: 5)
Only Danny Meyer can pull off expensive Italian food while making feel completely comfortable and at ease. Completely unpretentious. The food is amazing- the namesake Maialino (which they will make for two) is so delectable that Im still thinking about it months later. Great wine list too. -
Review 58 (2016-06-08 - Rating: 4)
First, if you enjoy wine, head to this spot thirsty. Second, try as many different menu items as possible. The recipes taste as great as they sound when your answer is delivered by just about anyone you ask. Third, the price seems high, but for the last several months, the prices have the tip included, so dont fret: you wont be adding 20% to the total -
Review 59 (2011-05-04 - Rating: 5)
The best meal I had this year I had here. Roasted Pig for four, preceded by sensational starters and pastas. Lovely breads. Like youve died and gone to Rome. Swell locale, too, right on Gramercy Park. Well worth the wait for a reservation - plan well ahead, and go! -
Review 60 (2012-01-18 - Rating: 4)
Wonderful brunch spot. Start with their ricotta pancakes to share with the table or something from their bakery (the bakery items are super quick to come out). The brunch cocktails are excellent. I had the Bombolotti all’Amatriciana - prepared with a spicy tomato sauce and guanciale. So good. -
Review 61 (2019-11-01 - Rating: 5)
We celebrated my mother’s 100th birthday with a Sunday brunch in Maialino’s private room. My mother is very hard of hearing and uses a walker, so we needed a quiet, easily accessible venue. Maialino’s private room was perfect. It was quiet (we turned off the music and closed the door), and she was able to enter through the restaurant’s side door, thus avoiding the four steps to the room from the main section of the restaurant. The food, served family style, was delicious and plentiful. Anasua Chowdhury, the private sales manager, worked with me in planning the event and the menu, and two staff members who were at the brunch itself serving and anticipating our every need, were wonderful. I recommend Maialino for your event, or for a simple meal. -
Review 62 (2019-11-05 - Rating: 5)
Maialino is consistent and I always find the staff welcoming and attentive. Typically, I’ve sat with friends at the bar. I appreciate the staples that remain on the menu every time I visit, as well as the rotating, seasonal items. Wine list is 👍🏼 -
Review 63 (2019-07-21 - Rating: 5)
The food here is extremely tasty and fresh. There menu changes with the season, so dont expect to get the same thing every time. Its a little pricey, but worth it since its a no tipping restaurant. -
Review 64 (2013-09-06 - Rating: 4)
Maialino is yet another restaurant in Danny Meyers portfolio and it doesnt disappoint. The restaurant has a spacious bar as well as a comfortable dining area. The decor has an older, rustic feel that made me feel like I was dining in an authentic Italian trattoria. The restaurant is classy without being overbearing or stuffy and would be a good choice for even more casual dinners. As far as food goes, the pasta was extraordinary. My carbonara had the right balance of pepper, pancetta, and cheese and brought out the extraordinary richness that really defines carbonara. As far as I am concerned, I could easily have believed that my I was having pasta at one of Romes best restaurants. For my main course, I chose the suckling pig special, which was a crispy skin suckling pig over a bed of potatoes. While the pig was delicious and flavorful and the skin had a wonderfully crunchy texture, the dish overall felt a little one-note and heavy and could have used some component to lighten it up. The pig is certainly an experience and worth trying once, but I think the next time I go, I would choose something else.Overall, Maialino is a very excellent restaurant and one that I would gladly revisit whether it be for a work or casual dinner. -

Maialino is an absolute must when I am in NYC. The staff is always on. Hostesses were very nice and attentive. The server was sweet and at one point someone stopped by to pick up and fold a napkin that had fallen from the bar. Wow, so nice! The food is incredible. Cacio e pepe is so simple and I am constantly craving it! Its my favorite dish but honestly, anything you choose will be delicious! -

We arrived too early for dinner but our appetizers were top notch. I had a lot of trouble deciphering the menu however and I felt a little like a third class citizen by the staff with the exception of the guy who gave us water. -

This was the best place I ate at for this NYC trip. So glad we got a reservation here because we all had incredible meals, wine and a great time at a decent price. Will definitely be going back again next time Im in NYC. -

Review 69 (2018-07-25 - Rating: 5)
This was my 1st time here. The food was amazing & so was the service. The pastas are very traditional Romano /Tuscano. Many of the dishes you will find in other italian restaurants but not nearly as good. There is definitely fine touch to their food. Their house specialities revolve around pork. The 1/2 pig head app is amazing as well as the pork for 2 or pork for the table dinner special. Its certainly one of the best Italian eateries in NYC this in the whole country! Mangia Mangia! -

Seriously delicious Italian restaurant. It is located inside a beautiful hotel that’s worth a visit just to take pictures as well. The service in the restaurant is good. Their cacio Pepe pasta was amazing and my friend also loved his dish. 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👍👍👍✌️✌️✌️ -

Updating my review with a more recent experience. Maialino is excellent. The space is sleek and modern yet warm and cozy. The service is attentive. The food is terrific. Pastas are of the newer persuasion: clean, uncomplicated flavors, lightly sauced, and perfectly al dente. The whole branzino was the best whole fish Ive ever had; simply prepared with salt and lemon and olive oil and out of this world. The suckling pig is quite the indulgence — crispy, fatty skin, tender meat, very pricey but a good wintertime indulgence. Panna cotta was very good, bread pudding was just okay. Prices are high; be prepared to spend quite a bit on dinner. -

Best cacio e pepe Ive had in NYC. Soooo good! Will come back just for the cheesy pasta. Also: no tip, which is pretty great. Its family friendly and we always see a lot of children here. But dont worry, every kid weve seen here has been extremely well behaved. Lovely place with excellent pasta. -

Pricey Italian restaurant but worth the expense - a fantastic wine selection will kick things up a bit, but if youre a foodie, then order a Peroni and enjoy a great meal. Dishes are not big, ordering a side is not a bad idea. -
Review 74 (2012-10-10 - Rating: 4)
This restaurant is fantastic. If you live in the area, try to make this your regular neighborhood spot. I would recommend starting with some cured meats, moving on to a pasta course, and then... who knows!? Gramercy Park, in general, is not the most exciting part of town, but the Gramercy Park Hotel is certainly lively, not only with the action at this restaurant, but also within its very respectable bars. So, after your dinner at Maialino, be sure to check out the rooftop bar and the two ground-floor bars: Jade Bar and Rose Bar. But visit the Rose Bar early in the evening to be sure youre granted entry; then play some pool while you sip unique cocktails in the midst of an impressive contemporary art collection. -

Wow. Just got back from this place after a work lunch and I had to write up my review. I had the Prosciutto e Mozzarella, Malfatti al Maialino (braised suckling pig with homemade pasta and arugula) and the Torta di Olio dOliva (olive oil cake topped with vanilla bean mascarpone). The focaccia bread served at the beginning was soft with hints of salt every now and then. The other bread in the basket was nothing special and a bit burnt on the crust. The prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella is just as good as prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella always is (could have used some arugula though). The braised suckling pig is just as good as everyone raves. I didnt realize that it was a pasta dish but I definitely did not mind as the pasta was delicious. Overall the dish had a very strong lemon flavor and it was just amazing. The olive oil pound cake is very delicious but very heavy. Theres not a strong olive oil taste or anything- its just made with olive oil as the fat instead of butter.Overall, a very delicious and memorable meal. Now excuse me while I roll around my desk with my very full belly. -

This 5/5 is specifically for the awesome burger we had on our first visit, which happened to be at lunch time. This burger was one of the juiciest, most flavorful burgers Ive had in a very long time. The beef patty on its own was awesome! But I certainly couldnt complain about the super thick slice of bleu cheese and the bacon they put on top. That same meal, we also got a side of potatoes (they were not on the menu and were a special request that our fantastic waiter was great about) and dessert. The potatoes were fantastic - crunchy on the outside and with enough seasoning that they required no sauce or additional sauce. For dessert, we did the Tiramisu and two scoops of Gelato - one of chocolate and one of cherry. The Tiramisu was very light and just the right amount of sweet - not the overly sweet that Ive found in most others. The chocolate Gelato tastes dark and rich, while the cherry was a bit Tart. Yum!We visited the next day for breakfast. Everything was absolutely delicious, but not quite as life changing as lunch. Although I would strongly encourage getting bacon because it was the thickest cut of bacon Ive ever seen. So good! -

Holy smokes, Danny Meyer just doesnt miss. The common current of every Meyer joint is a non-happenstanced coziness. Mailalino is no exception to this rule, boasting a great staff, wonderful fresh pastas and a wine list thats to die for. -

For being a non tipping restaurant the service here was great! We order 3 different pastas to share, Carbonara (the crispy pieces of guanciale were out of this world good), Squid Ink Pasta with Crab and Jalapeno, and a special they had with lobster spaghetti in a red sauce. The carbonara pasta had a distinct smokey and/or meaty taste to every bite. The squid ink was very different, even if you have had a squid ink pasta before. The lobster one was very fresh with almost a lemony flavor. The pieces of lobster were poached (idk how that works on a lobster) and were very soft and juicy; cooked perfectly.Every dish was great. Good size beer and wine selection. For dessert we had a chocolate hazlenut cake with a scoop of ice cream which was really good. The outside and bottom had a hazlenut crisp to it.Thanks for a great date night! -

Great location. Right in the heart of Gramercy, inside the Gramercy hotel sits this cozy italian eatery. Maialino specializes in fresh incredible pasta dishes as well as their signature Crackling Pork Shank. With portuons for 1 or 2, i recommend getting a portion for 2 for the entire table to share. Or just one for yourself. The fried Artichokes as well as the tortaglioni stuffed with oxtail are also off the charts.Great beer menu with fun selection of craft beers. -
