Quite a beautiful restaurant, but the food was not as great as I expected. The portions were large (photos are half a portion each) but the taste lacked the special touch that would make me want to come back. The halibut was cooked to the perfect degree, but the sweet taste from the sweetened almonds did not sit well with me and the risotto beneath was too salty. The fusili was good but not enough to linger on my mind. That said, it still seems like a nice restaurant to try out if you have it on your list. -

Excellent upscale spot for Italian seafood cuisine. The octopus fusilli is one of the main dishes they are known for (we enjoyed it), but the clam spaghetti was definitely one of our favorites. Definitely also get at least one of the crudo starters, the raw fish selections were amazing. Attentive, friendly and knowledgeable staff. -

I had Christmas dinner here, and it was a wonderful experience! Friendly service, delicious food, classy and upscale environment. I especially love their pastas! Both pastas we ordered were very good. Also, the duck dish was amazing, it was perfectly cooked. Love love love! The desserts were a bit too sweet for my preference but they were still good with coffee. I will definitely come back next time. -

Grilled octopus was spectacular - extremely tender. Spaghetti was also extremely tasty and had the perfect amount of sauce. -

World class, 5 star in every way. The food, service and ambience beat every expectation! Lobster dish was fantastic. Unique and creative coffee dessert next level. Recommend Marea for any celebration, power lunch etc. block out a couple hours to enjoy! -

Stop everything. If youre coming to upper east do whatever you have to and get a reservation. This is the reason NYC stands out as an Epicuruss center! Exquisite care taken to every flavor and detail to balance the plate. Amazing wine list. Causal and friendly. Pastry chef is imaginative and makes dessert so worth it. Just do it! Do not delay. This is why we dine out! Order octopus. Gnocchi. Sea bass over risotto, and scallops that taste like the sea kissed you on the lips! leave room for spice cake and cheese tray with honey and raspberry olive oil preserves. The sorbet is exquisite ! Great for date night or business dinner. Small bar. Neighborhood vibe despite upscale prices. I ❤️ New York for restaurants just like this one! -

Astice (lobster) starter, octopus fusilli, king crab pasta sheets finished off with pan seared scallops, divine! Will return again. -

One of the best meals I’ve had in a VERY long time. Every dish was a 10. Exciting, innovative, yet still approachable and incredibly delicious. Still thinking about the seabass tartare and the mafaldine with king crab mmmmm. The team there is TOPS. They execute flawless fine dining service in a way that feels genuine, cool, calm and collected. Many many thanks to Whitney, Darnelle, Naomi and Josh. Already looking forward to my next visit. -
Review 12 (2024-03-15 - Rating: 4)
Interesting innovative appetizers (scampi on scampi with crispy rice, fluke crudo). Langosta tartare was not as flavorful. Swordfish and duck risotto were excellent. Kids spaghetti with olive oil was really good but not worth $43, same price as their other pasta dishes that have protein . Great extensive wine list. Service started strong but became mediocre as meal progressed. -

During our visit to Marea, we were able to experience a wonderful evening in every respect: A friendly welcome, extremely courteous service and fine italian dining that meets the highest standards.Simply great what the Marea team achieves with visible pleasure in their profession. -

We enjoyed an exceptional dining experience on our 45th anniversary, from the service to the food and the warmth with which we were greeted. These days you cannot take excellence for granted… Marea achieves a very high standard. Well done!! -

My brother and I came here to celebrate his admission to UT. The service was remarkable but the taste didn’t match the price. One of the oysters didn’t smell and taste well. Our server immediately changed it after he knew this. The bone marrow spaghetti is very oily and I recommend people order this after careful considerations. We didn’t order entrees after tasting the spaghetti. The breads and desserts were the best in our meals. I love gelatos and the pine nut sauce! After all, it’s a good restaurant and maybe we hold way too high expectations after seeing those good reviews. -
Review 17 (2023-10-22 - Rating: 4)
Went here for a birthday meal as Marea had been a place Id heard about and kept meaning to visit.Specializing in seafood we went heavy on the fishy side of things. Certainly the seafood we had for the first 2 courses were great tasting and had nothing to fault them on. The duck main dish we had was also lovely.I was disappointed somewhat with the desserts though. I was hoping for similar quality as Lincoln Ristorante as Id read that the head chef had moved over from that restaurant and always loved their desserts. Sadly, the tiramisu was a strange frozen concoction, not really sure what the pastry chef was trying to achieve there. The bomboloni (AKA donuts) was better and I probably would have been happy if I hadnt had a much better iteration at Casa Limone (and a better selection of other yummy desserts). Have it at that restaurant and youll understand why the Marea version underwhelmed. It was pretty heaving with people when we got there and the bar right next to the entrance certainly increased the hub bub. Which put me off as I prefer quieter restaurants, but unfortunately that wasnt to be as there were a lot of people there discussing business. Should have rung my alarm bells as one of the recommendations I had was from a sales person at work. The decor is nice, but the tables felt cramped together for such a high end restaurant, the crowded bar didnt help with that feeling and that meant you could overhear a lot of conversations, especially the business meals. Dont know if its always like that but it was definitely a turn off.The other problem I had was that the dishes were just way over priced. The total bill was heading towards tasting course territory. And that was only with a few drinks, 2 of which were non-alcoholic. I suspect that was a consequence of it being a business meeting hangout and lots of expense accounts...The ambiance killed the experience for me, loved most of the food, but once was quite enough for me! -

BEST ITALIAN food in NYC. Grazie for indulging my senses. What a pleasurable meal. Everything was stellar and I’ll leave it at that. -

Review 21 (2022-01-14 - Rating: 5)
Amazing service. Brought our own bottle for a birthday dinner as well as our own cake. Everything from entering the restaurant to leaving was exquisite, service wise. We ordered the lobster, oysters and octopus for our appetizers, and several other mains for a table of 2. Some dishes have a slightly saltier/heavier taste than we are accustomed to, but it was still delicious. Our waiter was great and the maitre d is always helpful with our requests. -
Review 22 (2021-04-05 - Rating: 5)
Absolutely stunning food and outdoor dining setup. Theres a garden inside with a heat lamp/fire lamp for each table, and the tables are all reasonably spaced out.I ordered the fusili, the bestseller, and I know why it is a favorite. The pasta had the perfect amount of bounce and the octopus was SO tender. I am in love. My friend ordered the mushroom truffle pasta, which looked delicious too. We also both ordered the boozy hot chocolate, and that was absolutely divine. The small marshmallows were so cute and it truly warmed up our meal. -
Review 23 (2021-04-18 - Rating: 5)
PEI Oysters were the best I have ever had. Yellow tail was one of the show stoppers. Octopus was above average. Now for the pasta gouache was cooked to perfection. Firm not hard or to soft. The cream source was perfect. Spaghetti with seafood was also a crowd pleaser. Very tasty. My personal favorite was the gouache. Cooked to perfection not to firm or to soft.. My wife had the lamb she loved it. I had the Ocean scallops I was not a fan did not like source. Save room for dessert we had the penacottia it was the best I had ever had. Incredibly fresh, melts in your mouth and the flavor was incredible. Now for the service. 5 plus stars. Incredible the attention you are given. They respect the balance so its never to much or to little. If a napkin drops its replaced with a new one in seconds. Courteous and friendly and they make great suggestions dont be afraid to ask. Marea is pricey but in this case you get what you pay for. We have been to Marea several times and all the above have been very consistent. I would call this a must experience if you are a foodie like me. -
Review 24 (2018-05-12 - Rating: 5)
Best plate was the scallops- cooked perfectly and fresh. Halibut was so simple with a pure taste of the fish with tasty greens. Lobster with buratta and eggplant-a mix of flavors that had the perfect balance. Chocolate desert was amazing! Overall the food met up to all expectations. This restaurant is pricey but worth the quality. You must make reservations before. Atmosphere is high end and private. -
Review 25 (2021-07-04 - Rating: 5)
Food and ambience was obviously exceptional, I dont think I have anything more to say that hasnt been said here already. What I can comment is on their exceptional service. I was here during Saturday evening, the restaurant and the bar was full. Still, they did not falter even once during the entire night, from ordering and food presentations to beverage service and table clearing, they were on time, attentive, professional, and very friendly. My first time here and yet made me feel like I was a long time patron. As businesses struggle to return to normal from the pandemic, Ive noticed that even the most established and trusted restaurants are struggling with service due to staffing issues. Marea, however, seems have recovered completely. It was a great experience. -

The food was incredible and the waiters knew the menu very well and were attentive. From the moment you enter the restaurant, you know you’re going to have a good time. Their signature pasta dish is a must. We’ll definitely come back. -

Marea is one of the best restaurants in all of Manhattan. Ive eaten here a number of times and have always had an outstanding experience all the way around. Its a great spot for client entertaining or special occasion meals. The food is outstanding, the dining room and bar area are beautiful. I highly recommend a meal at Marea! -
Review 28 (2023-01-19 - Rating: 5)
Marea - High on my bucket list since 2009 when they were pre-Michelin, back when Crudo was thought of as avant-garde and something to seek out. 12 years later, crudo and tartare are ubiquitous; hard to find a seafood place that does NOT offer it, and frankly most places don’t do it well. Even after all these years Marea has managed to remain top of their game - the Crudo was unique AND delicious, as were the other primi and pasta. I was happy they did away with their tasting menu as we prefer to pick out our own items, especially important at a place like this where we opted for more crudo, pasta, and small plates and eschewed the mains. They even offer half plates on the pasta which were plenty big. They say the best test of good service is how they handle it when things go wrong. Well, not sure who was more shocked, me or the somm, when I pronounced the 2018 Bruno Clair MSD (a rare white) as premoxed. I thought whites after 2012 were safe. Nope. He looked incredulous. It was awkward. But then w my encouragement he and his somm buddies tasted it and agreed. They comped us some nice Champagne while they found another bottle which thankfully was delicious.Recently, they lost one of their stars presumably due to Covid issues, but hopefully they will recover it soon. For now, they continue to be considered one of, perhaps the top seafood restaurant in NYC. #thefoodietraveler -

Came upon recommendation from a friend. The business lunch is $60 for 2 courses (used to be $45). Will definitely recommend the lobster and buffala starter. Creative combination that is full of freshness. Great quality lobster as well. The octopus and bone marrow pasta came highly recommended as a classic to try. My friend who is a regular requested for less salt while ordering, which was a good call as it came already on the saltier end of the spectrum for me. The bone marrow came in large chunks which can be quite rich. Would have preferred the marrow more infused in the sauce than in large chunks, but it’s too each person’s preference.Overall a satisfying two star meal though I will say the old price of $45 feels more appropriate.Gets busy at lunch. -

A classic seafood establishment.- Outstanding service- Fresh and well prepared seafood- amazing fresh pasta- great valueProbably one of the highest value ways to dine at a 2 Michelin star rated restaurant in NYC. The recommended 4 courses is a good amount of outstanding food and provides you with many options. The great service then brings the experience home. -

It has been a dream of mine to dine at Marea for 3 years and the experience did not disappoint. Dan our waiter was lovely and attentive and made the experience quite special for my father and I. Highlights of the meal were definitely the gnochetti with the shrimp and the branzino. The olive oil cake was also very light which was a nice way to close out the meal. Only thing more I could of asked for was a cappuccino but unfortunately their espresso machine was down but that is clearly circumstantial. Overall a truly amazing experience and will be dining again very soon! -

The perfect meal. We had very high expectations for Marea and our expectations were exceeded. We started with their Insalata & Tuna Crudo. Very pleasantly surprised by both dishes. The salad was the perfect start to the meal and the tuna is very fresh. We ended up getting three pastas because we couldn’t choose just two! We got the Quadrotti, Ravioli Doppi & their signature Fusilli. All of them were amazing. The biggest surprise was the Quadrotti. The combination of the sweet corn and the chanterelles was magical. Of course, the Fusilli was also delicious; the octopus was perfectly cooked. We ended the meal with the Panna Cotta which was also great. The service throughout the evening was great and very attentive. The ambience is sophisticated, but not pretentious. Overall, this may just be our new favourite restaurant in NYC. We’ll definitely be back to try their other menu items! -
Review 36 (2018-01-12 - Rating: 5)
Great spot for Italian food - the portions are generous, servers are attentive without being annoying/rushing you through your courses, and the food is delicious! We had the lobster burrata, mushroom risotto, octopus, cauliflower antipasti as appetizers and the steak, strozzapetti and scallops for entrees. The burrata was amazing, and I really enjoyed the strozzapetti. Desserts weren’t as good as the mains but all in all, a great meal and definitely worth the price. -

The table we had for three was spacious enough for us to have all the foods and drinks.About the dishes,we started with ‘Assaggio di Tre’and the famous ‘Astice’With following menu from Primi,Fusilli and Branzino for two was fantastic with the wine we ordered, Domaine Roulot’s Bourgogne BlancOverall food was tasty and very delicate.Service and the atmosphere was great!Highly recommend for people who would definitely want the FINE experience in nyc! -
Review 38 (2021-10-12 - Rating: 4)
All the workers are very professional and friendly. I visited this place to have lunch for my anniversary, I ordered two antipasti, two pasta, and a tiramisu, but they sort of missed one pasta and gave us tiramisu, and that is one of the two reason that I can not give them 5 stars. (It might have been a bit of miscommunication because of my bad English) Although it delayed our every schedule for the day a bit, it was ok because the old gentleman who served us was amazingly professonal and friendly in every other aspects. He is the best server I have ever met during my whole dining experiences in my life up to now. The nova scotia lobster was amazing, the octopus was surprisingly well cooked, the pasta dishes were slightly worse than my expectation, but considering that my expectation for this place was really high, everything was just as good as what is should be. (The spaghetti was little too salty, but acceptable. This is the other reason for the not-5-stars rating) Tiramisu was excellent. I know this place used to be a 2 michelin starred restaurant and was recently downgraded to 1 star, and I kinda understand why this place could not be 2 stars anymore, but this place is a lot better than most of the 1 star restaurants in pretty much all aspects you can imagine. What a wonderful place. -
Review 39 (2021-11-06 - Rating: 5)
The service at this restaurant was absolutely incredible. From the bartender being very friendly and helpful with wine selection, even suggesting a sommelier, to the wait staff being very familiar with the menu and accommodating to our small adjustments. We ordered numerous appetizers, pasta dishes, and main courses along with dessert. It was quite a bit of food all in all, but it was light enough that none of us felt overly stuffed or heavy at the end. All the staff made us feel welcome and happy to have us dining at their restaurant... a rarity nowadays in New York.Had an excellent bottle Pinot Grigio. Apanina 2020.Yes, the restaurant is quite expensive, but for the service and food quality, it is definitely worth the splurge for a special occasion. -

Our dining experience at Marea was one of the best we have ever had. They were perfectly attentive for our anniversary and the food was unbelievable in every way. Their signature dish was appropriately deemed as such. We could not have asked for a better experience. Our waiter was absolutely wonderful in every way and the sommelier recommended a wine that fit our meal and evening perfectly. Then to finish it all off, the pastry chef delivered an unbelievable finish to our meal with a tiramisu that was just like what weve had in Italy, but the presentation made it even a notch better. This paired with the port was perfect!Thank you to the entire staff who helped us celebrate our anniversary yesterday! -

Excellent service and Ambience for sure.Food wise, really loved the appetizers and Strawberry Field dessert as attached. (Sorry, lighting was dark.) However was not impressed with the pastas or main dishes. For the price, it was good, a but small and not excellent. However was a joy to dine there. -

Had the most beautiful dinner here with friends. They had run out of the main course I ordered so I ended up receiving complimentary mushroom risotto which the waiter merely overheard me debating getting it and then it just appeared. Also the playlist was on point for 80s classics by the end the night. Was convinced my dad was controlling it behind the bar or something 😅 -

Marea offers an exceptional dining experience with a focus on high-quality seafood and Italian-inspired dishes. The ambiance is elegant yet welcoming, perfect for a special occasion or an upscale evening out. Their crudo and handmade pastas stand out, with flavors that are both creative and refined. The service is outstanding—our waitress was particularly attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable, making the experience even more enjoyable. A must-visit for seafood lovers in the heart of New York City. -

It’s Me Again! Your fav food blogger!Fusilli is a must try PASTA dish thank me later. The ambiance is very homey gave me a nostalgic feeling of my Granny’s living room. I was celebrating my Anniversary and was very glad we picked a Michelin starred restaurant.Normally, I’m underwhelmed with the drinks. But I must say I was impressed with my cocktail Royal Blush! Get this gal a champagne cocktail anytime.Indecisive about the Oysters so tried them all. I honestly would have given 5 stars, but there was this cabinet right next to our seats.Anytime a server passed by to get utensils they wouldn’t close it all the way. The drawer just continued to open. It should be removed from the dining room it’s an unnecessary distraction. Aside from that!Loved our Server John! He was super hospitable and personable! -

What a wonderful dining place in NYC. One star Michelin deserved for their food, service and ambience. Love the oyster and kampachi sashimi. Especially love the lobster soup and lobster ravioli. It was so flavorful and tasty. The seafood spaghetti with uni is enjoyable with strong seafood flavour. Perfect grilled the duck and definitely pair well with wine. The one you shouldn’t miss is the tiramisu that even I won’t eat dessert typically would start to take 2nd scoop! Great service with perfect size for 3 of us to enjoy it. Plenty of Wine selection but prepared to pay for more premium one. Bar counter available and beautifully decorated .. enjoy your pre dinner drink and even choose to dine there too. Great Italian and seafood base restaurant.. one of the fine restaurants in NYC . -

Marea was my best pasta place in NYC but quality and taste of food were changed in the past few years. Food wasn’t consistent and service was getting worse. Host is always not friendly. It’s still my beloved pasta place but kind of sad. -

Marea was incredible. The atmosphere, ambiance, and staff created the perfect environment for a romantic evening. The staff were pleasant and minimally intrusive; yet fulfilled every need. Absolutely perfect. The food was unbelievably good and wine pairings were spectacular with the recommended pasta dishes. Dessert was the cherry on top for sure. -

One of the best meals we have ever had. The fixed menu is the way to go - you can choose your app, pasta, secondi, and dessert for only $105 (Jan 2018).Amazing!It’s not stuffy, it’s welcoming and the wine list is great too. -

Panna Cotta changed my life.I actually ordered two of them, it was amazing. We had the astice and the langoustine to start. The langoustine we really could have passed on. It wasn’t anything more than just Okay. I absolutely loved the astice, the lobster and burrata cheese and everything just paired together so perfectly and felt so light. For the entree we got the fusilli and gnochetti, both were delicious. I was so surprised that octopus and bone marrow could pair so well together but the fusilli was amazing. The highlight of my dinner was the panna cotta which I ordered on a whim. It. Was. To. Die. For. The creme fraiche was SO creamy and delicious, it came with strawberries, a piece of white chocolate, and strawberry sorbet on top which elevated the entire dish. It was such a pleasant surprise and so delicious, took me by surprise that I had to have another. Our waitress was so sweet and inviting, I don’t remember her name but she was a gem, she even surprised us with cookies as we were celebrating our honeymoon. I’ll definitely be coming back, especially for that panna cotta -

This place from the outside looks very simple, but the inside is very beautiful. Once you enter, you right away feel that its not a typical restaurant. The service is very good, everyone there is very friendly, very kind, respectful and they check on you often. Details in this for restaurant matter. Everything they bring in has attention to detail.I started there with expresso coffee and some non alcohol cocktail. The cocktail was good, but coffee was not from this world. I liked it so much that I asked for 2nd one.I have ordered there a swordfish and a steak. Both dishes were amazing. Theres nothing I can add or complain about. They were done incredibly well. For desert, I ordered donuts and tiramisu. Both were also made very well.I would absolutely recommend everyone to try to come here. Its not cheap, but everything was worth it. -

Review 53 (2024-08-27 - Rating: 5)
Marea is an upmarket Italian restaurant near Columbus Circle in NYC. The menu is heavy on seafood. Marea used to be a Michelin-starred restaurant but has meanwhile (unfairly, imo) been stripped of that award. Service is very attentive. If you’re visiting with kids be sure to ask for off-menu kids’ dishes. Pricing is consistent with top-end NYC places but not exorbitant by that measure. They offer prix fixe menus but most items come with steep surcharges (what’s the point of fixed price lunches when add on come with additional costs highet than the fixed price?). Regardless, Marea is my favorite place in Manhattan and I visit every time I am there. -

Review 55 (2023-03-31 - Rating: 5)
Set in Central Park South, Marea exudes the elegance and ritz of the neighborhood it resides in. From pre-show opera crowds to Manhattan’s elite residents, Marea is a ritzy melting pot. The space matches that too, with golden Onyx flanking the bar and Indonesian wood throughout, giving the restaurant a nautical but elegant feel. The ambiance is not the only highlight of the restaurant, so is its food and service. When every food critic tells you to try a dish, there must truly be something about it. That was the case with the octopus and bone marrow fusilli. This is decisively one of the best pasta dishes in New York City. There’s a reason the menu rotates seasonally but that dish never leaves. The born marrow and octopus mixed incredibly well to create a strong but balanced pasta. As alluded to earlier, the service was stellar, with a focus on accommodating to your needs. For example, we had an opera showing after dinner so they made sure to tailor our experience to finish on time as well as to sit us by the kitchen for more expedient serving. Even taking this into account, the service and experience still did not feel rushed. If you want to dine to impress (and ideally you’re not the one picking up the check), Marea is a wonderful option. It expands your pasta horizon beyond its usual borders and pampers you in the kind of culinary opulence only New York can offer. -

Marea nailed it at todays Fontodi lunch. I always love coming here for their ability to meld simply prepared, high quality ingredients into dishes packed with so much flavor. The only thing that prevented a FIVE STAR review, is that as a gluten free customer, I was not presented with anything to eat while the rest of the table was served bread. Please understand these are not large portions and without something else to fill you, it can be very difficult to get through. -

Marea is so far my favorite restaurant. We went there for my birthday celebration and everything from the very moment we sat down was perfecto: the ambience was elegant, the waiters super knowledgeable about the food and wine, the dishes were divine, and the services seamless. For primi, we had a tasting plate of 5 crudi, which my father enjoyed a lot, lump crab, which is full of different layers of flavors, and grilled octopus, which is tender, juicy, and tasteful as well. For secondi, we had the famous fusili with octopus, which was great but a bit heavy and salty for me, and wild striped bass, well complimented by the broth and beans beneath, and sirloin, which was super juicy and tender. Whats more lovely, they offered a complimentary dessert of our choice, affogato, for my birthday, and ultimately, lovely and sophisticatedly delicious tiramisù bites for the table. Thanks Marea for making my birthday so lovely and special! ❤️ Grazie per un compleanno bellissimo! -

We opted to go here for lunch, and were flabbergasted with how marvelous things were. We had the seafood tasting menu with wine pairings, but also tried the fusilli with red wine braised octopus and bone marrow - just incredible, especially at the price point, in a beautiful restaurant across the street from Central Park. -

I had such a lovely time with my sisters here. My sister from NYC insisted we should stop by here for their famous octopus fusilli that she fell in love with. The egg plant spread with complimentary bread was so silky and special. Olive oil was heavenly as well. They were so nice to split the Insalata appetizer among three of us. I loved the combination of the pecorino, hazelnuts and mint in the salad. The Fusilli was wonderful as everyone else has said. Very rich flavor with tender pieces of octopus. A bottle of Proseco was perfect to go with everything. I can’t wait to come back here to try other menus. -

Food: spectacular. My friend and I shared the almond-crusted soft shell crab, and it was brought over on two separate plates to facilities sharing. I got the strozzapreti for my main, and it was delicious. The sauce was flavorful without being too much; the ingredients blended beautifully to make a lovely dish. The cioccolato dessert was also a great way to end the meal. We also received complimentary mini tiramisus at the end.Service: knowledgeable and helpful, but slightly brisk -

Fantastic experience at Marea. My partner and I were here celebrating our engagement and the service was impeccable. We were also kindly given free champagne. The restaurant feels classic and stylish with a buzzy atmosphere. Service throughout the evening was perfect. We had a burrata and lobster dish and also a prawn tartare for starters. They were both delicious. We then had a crab pasta and a scallop dish. Both were really good, particularly the crab pasta which was exceptional. -

Overall the food here is good, but not amazing, especially for the price and the michelin star.Pólipo - one octopus tentacle cooked beautifully, soft and tender while having that slight snap, and came with a balsamic vinegar reduction and tonnato sauce, providing a balance of sweet, umami and sour. Also had some sort of bitter green, sweet red onions, and roasted potatoes for completeness.Fusilli - a tubular and relatively firm pasta, with a well balanced tomato sauce that pairs nicely with the beautifully cooked and tender octopus inside, with some breadcrumbs on the top as well.Spigola - Seared sea bass with a green lemon based puree along with some green beans and a fried celery stuffed with a sort of cheese inside.Check out @bredgyeats for food pictures! -

Spacious & clean restaurant. Some items on the menu are slightly pricey compared to other Italian restaurants in the area, but the fusilli pasta here is good. -

Decent for the price. Probably the cheapest 2 Michelin starred dinner in Ny. Food is more like 1 star level but worth a visit for the lobster burrata and the octopus pasta. -
Review 69 (2021-05-23 - Rating: 5)
Everything from the service to the food was incredible. The desserts were surprisingly the star of the meal. Nothing but good things to say about the restaurant. Probably the best service I’ve ever received. -

First and foremost, all I can say is WOW!Right when you walk in, your eyes are immediately drawn to the lit bar with the most exquisite stone. Once we were greeted by the hostess, we were immediately escorted through the bustling dining room.We started with the Insulata and it was so simple, yet somehow both left us wide-eyed in the best way. On to the next course, the Marubini and Fusilli were big hits for the entire table. The flavors were bursting through and the ingredients were extremenly fresh. Our waitress recommended the appetizer portion. This was a brilliant suggestion since we were still going to enjoy the Bistecca. This was a beautifully thick cut of meat that was seasoned to perfection. The best bite was when you combined the croutons, which absorbed the bone marrow, and the steak. Heavenly. Last but not least, dessert. We were blessed with enjoying the Crostata and Tiramisu. These confections may sound ordinary, but the ingenuity of Chef Fujimura took them to the next level. Now onto what really will make me a loyal patron to this restaurant and will remain a go to spot when entertaining guests…. THE STAFF! Our waitress was an angel sent down to us. Juliana was attentive, patient, and informative. There wasn’t a single question or curve ball we could throw at her that she couldn’t handle. Captivating personality that made us feel like we were VIP and the only people in the restaurant, despite it being quite busy for a weeknight. When she was occupied running back to the kitchen, Salvatore was right there tending to our needs. Then there was the magnificent Leo, who never left a crumb on the table or a glass of water empty. Ever charming and fashionable. The one last stop before we left was at the bar. Juliana introduced to Dilly, the artist that made our fantastic cocktails. Everything sip was smooth and constructed with intention. All in all, a 10/10 experience. Chef Capala is a magician in the kitchen and I will certainly be back. -

My husband and I first dined at Marea back when we were dating in 2014. It was our first trip to New York and the first fancy restaurant that we ever went to as a couple. The staff were absolutely wonderful the ambience was truly perfect, and one waitress in particular really stood out to us. She was incredibly friendly, personable, efficient, attentive, and truly seemed like she cares about her customers.3 years pass, my boyfriend becomes my husband, and we decide to visit New York again to relive some beautiful memories. Just this past July, we went to Marea again for our anniversary. During our dinner, we saw the same waitress from three years ago! We asked her name, and she said it was Darnelle. She actually had remembered us from four years ago, remembering that we were visiting from Toronto! After a lovely chat, we asked for her to be our waitress, and of course the dining experience couldnt be more perfect. For us, Darnelle was an essential part in making the entire dining experience very special. On a different note, the food was absolutely scrumptious, from appetizer to main course to dessert. We had soft shell crab appetizer, an octopus pasta dish and a rose pasta, and for dessert the Semifreddo and Cioccolato. Everything cooked to perfection without any additional need of salt or pepper.Well deserving of a Michelin Star! -

Review 78 (2023-01-05 - Rating: 5)
Exceptional Italian and good service at a surprisingly reasonable price point. Absolutely come for the fusilli and gnochetti, both of which had wonderful flavor and perfect texture (though there could have certainly been a bit more bone marrow in the fusilli). Appetizers were solid as well. Definitely go for the yellowfin tartare, the grilled octopus, and the hamachi. The beef ribeye unfortunately was a bit underwhelming, something you can probably skip. All in all an excellent experience at Marea. -

Great experience here. I came with a friend late on a Friday night, and fortunately found the restaurant with plenty of tables available. The food was delicious, especially the Fusilli pasta, and service was prompt and pleasant. For the bread service, I recommend the bread with olives and fruit in it (cant recall the name), it is really tasty. -

I have the warmest memories of this restaurant! A few years ago, I celebrated my graduation here and had just adopted a puppy. With no one to leave the little guy with, I had to bring him along. Normally, Im not a fan of taking dogs to fancy places, but leaving my scared puppy at the hotel just didnt feel right. The staff were incredibly kind and understanding, making us feel welcome right away. The food and service were outstanding—far beyond just nice. Its such a shame that this restaurant lost its Michelin star. I really hope they get their two stars back because they truly deserve it. -

The food was absolutely amazing!! Recommend to go earlier if you want the branzino as they typically run out later in the evening.Cocktails are a little expensive but very tasteful. The white wine we ordered from Cinque Terre was crisp and smooth, making it a good pair with the food.We started off with 1 dozen oysters, that were each so fresh, juicy, and tasteful. Then we ordered the acciughe and that was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. It only comes with 2 crostinis but highly recommend! For our main dishes, we ordered gnocchetti, mezzaluna, and capesante. Everything was mouthwatering, melt in your mouth, delicious and I am already looking forward to going again. The waiters and everyone at the restaurant were very helpful, kind, and informative. Highly recommend!! Great vibe for couples, and families with older children. Would not recommend younger children. -

OMG this is LITERALLY THE BEST PASTA in the world. My girlfriend and I have been here for so many times (there was a week we came 4 times). Marea would be our priory whenever we don’t know where to hang out for food.Top three courses: Astice, Fusilli, Tiramisu (they change with season). BTW the focaccia is awesome! These foods never let us down! -

From the minute we checked in for our reservation it was nothing but exceptional service. Our server for the night was John and we all loved him and wish he couldve come out with us after. There is more to making a good restaurant than just good food and Marea had it all. The food was one of the best meals we had all had. Every dish came out looking perfect and extremely fresh. The ambience was great us girls were there for hours laughing and eating and drinking. Service was great. John had us cracking up and provided great food recommendations. We also bought 2 bottles of wine which the sommelier matched perfectly to what we were eating. I cannot wait for my next visit back to Marea. -

What a special evening at Marea. It’s long been on my list, and now I see why it is still around. It may be expensive; however, you get what you pay for. We started with cocktails: the Marea Martini is something truly special, so smooth and delicious with a hint of Calabrian chili oil. We then had some oysters (a cucumber and lemon mignonette, unique and delicious) and the hamachi crudo (divine). We split the lobster parpardelle arrabiata (spicy and pasta heaven) and the scallops (huge and sweet and yummy). We ended the meal with an insanely delicious take on tiramisu with a mascarpone gelato that was slightly salty. All in all a wonderful feel and a would DEFINITELY go back. -

As someone whose family are restauranteurs, I had hands down one of the most unforgettable dining experiences, with world class service.I had told the restaurant in advance that my gf and I were celebrating an anniversary. When we arrived, they congratulated us and sat us at a great table with glasses of champange on the house because of our occasion, which was very thoughtful. Our waiter was so helpful and professional and the maitred, Ivan, is a man in a class of his own. My gf had the mafaldine with king crab and I had the octopus fusilli, absolutely divine! We will be here again,no doubt and will recommend many of our friends here.Thank you Marea. -

I must admit, this restaurant was a bit of a let down. Coming from Florida where we have a wide variety of upscale seafood restaurants, this wasn’t that great. We ordered some appetizers recommended by our server (who was great) and the appetizers were very average. My mother and I decided to order a steak to share for our entree and it was tough and very over cooked. We ordered it medium rare and it was medium well at best. They offered to fix it but we were in a time crunch so we received a refund and left. Overall, the service was fine. The server was very accommodating and so kind when the steak didn’t come out in proper condition. The food was okay, I wouldn’t come return. If you enjoy very “unique” and somewhat strange sea food, this is probably a good place for you. -

Wonderful food and staff. Our dinner was phenomenal and the staff just lovely. The sommelier recommended a lovely bottle of wine with our dinner that is now one of our favorites. We ordered a cake with their baker ahead of time and it was beautiful and delicious. We are so happy to have celebrated our special occasion at Marea and will return. -

Absolutely superb service and amazing Italian seafood dinner. The dishes are prepared and presented impeccably. Quality is top notch and every item on the menu is delicious. You cannot go wrong here. Prices are adequate to the quality, ambience, service and location. -

Marea is one of my favorite places to go in NYC!!! It’s so classy and the location right off Central Park south is perfect. The drinks are perfectly made… Josh is the man and makes a great dirty martini! He can recommend the best dishes and makes the best drinks, if you sit at the bar.The food is out of this world! From the octopus to any of the pasta dishes, you won’t go wrong with anything you pick here. The staff here is so welcoming and wonderful, I recommend any friends visiting NYC to check out Marea! -

Not worth the high price. The quality and flavor were ok but not outstanding. The restaurant felt crowded and the service was impersonal. It did not meet our high expectations based on previous experiences. -

Had my last lunch in NY in Marra after strong recommendations . The food was excellent and the service was impeccable and professional , the lobster/shrimp pasta was to die for. -

Food was excellent. Started with Octopus and the server/kitchen split it on two plates for my wife and I. I got the gnochetti despite my dislike of shrimp and sure enough, it was mouth watering. Pasta cooked perfectly and the sauce was incredible. The focaccia bread was incredible- I ordered bread about 3-4 times because of it and wiped each plate clean with it.For drinks I got the navy strength milk punch. It was good and the milk was fully clarified so lactose intolerant people dont have to be concerned. In terms of why I left 1 star off- it mainly comes from my love of cocktails and it not being fulfilled. Wine program is excellent. Drinks, especially when getting close to $25-30/each I would expect to have more intricacy while here it seemed they were just being expensive to be expensive. While it might be unfair for me to compare them to other cocktail bars who specialize in that, I cant help it. -

Exceptional service seems rare these days. So pleased that we spent our afternoon celebrations at Marea! We had a small wedding service in Central Park and brought our little party of four to celebrate the occasion here. Everything from the service to the ambiance—and of course, the food were exceptional. An excellent place to celebrate or just make it a special night 🧡 -

I really loved this restaurant because of the food, service, and little details. A lot of attention and care went into everything and our waiter Scott went above and beyond. I can’t wait to come back. I’d recommend this restaurant to everyone in a heartbeat. -

After experiencing several Michelin star restaurants, I had to come back and write this review. This was the first restaurant that ignited my passion for fine dining years prior. My fiancé and I love this place. The service is unmatched and the food/presentation…. exceptional. The ambience is 5/5. We would return! Marea outcompetes restaurants with Michelin stars in my opinion. I am almost certain that many others share this sentiment. This review was LONG overdue. -

One of the best fine-dining restaurants we have been to! Definitely deserve the Michelin star (2 if you ask me). The food was exquisite, the wine was superb, and the service was unparalleled. We went for our anniversary and really enjoyed it. The food is much better priced compared to phony price tags some restaurants impose just to pretend quality. Will definitely go back!
