Food 8/10Interesting natural wines. I really enjoyed the lamb kebab and beef tongue. We also ordered the blood sausage and pita. Each dish was unique and consisted of complex flavors. The lamb kebab was paired with tahini and cilantro, and it was also very tender. The beef tongue was soft but also nicely textured. Really enjoyed this cute little Mediterranean spot in the East Village.Atmosphere 8/10Super cute interior, and their entrance is easy to miss. Only a few spots available, so definitely come early. Warm ambiance and light wood details.Service 8/10Very nice service.

Amazing lunch as Pita Shop. The natural wines they have on the menu are thoughtfully selected and paired really well. We lucked out that it was Christmas weekend and they werent packed. Cant wait to come back. Had the lamb over rice and the cauliflower pita. Every dish was phenomenal.

You know I’ve been here a few times and they never disappoint, I like this place because it’s a small space giving it an intimate feel perfect for a first date or date night. The food is always fresh and delicious, everything I’ve tried so far has been great, had the salmon special they were serving on the weekend and from that dish alone I know the guys in the kitchen know what they’re doing. They have an ample wine list that will satisfy any craving you have and the prices make sense, can not recommend enough.

This is a hidden gem. It’s rare to get such a high quality meal in nyc without paying absurd prices.Came for dinner which seems like quite a different vibe from lunch. We had no reso for two but were given high table seating for 1h which is pretty standard for Manhattan during peak weekend. We got muhammara (which is similar to hummus) and radicchio salad. Both dishes were well balanced, had a variety of textures, and flavorful. Radicchio was bitter and sweet. I wasn’t sure whether the main would match up but was also very impressed. We got Schnitzel - with spices that are similar to our appetizers, but in a complimentary way. The quality matches to the higher end pork katsu places in Japan.Drinks - good selection of wine, ciders, aperitifs. The only thing that could be better is having chairs with better back support, but it is LES after all.

My friend and I enjoyed dinner here last night, and I’d certainly come back again. The place is very small but cute and even romantic. A great place for a date! They only serve wine, but the list is extensive and thoughtful. The food was well portioned and tasty. We ordered the stone fruit salad, which was a fave of the evening. The tomato panzanella salad was fresh, but I’ve been told that it’s not a “true” panzanella from my Italian husband. I still through it was tasty! Both were very large and could easily fill two people. I had leftovers to take home! For entrees, we shared the lamb kebab and the half chicken. The lamb kebab was actually more of a kofta, it was ground meat formed into a large meatball. This is not actually chunks of cooked lamb. I thought it was very tasty but seemed slightly undercooked. Not enough to send back, just putting that out there. It was served on caramelized onions and peppers with fresh parsley. I enjoyed it but wasn’t over the moon. The chicken I actually didn’t like, but my friend did. First, it was a bit dry. Second, the sauce was overly rich with a sauce that tasty almost cheesy. This was probably from the foie gras, which I didn’t think was necessary. I took a few bites and went back to the lamb. It was a super heavy dish and didn’t sit well with me. But to each their own.Overall we had a nice time in this intimate spot. It’s so tiny in fact that you need to walk through their kitchen to the restroom!I’ll be back to enjoy some wine and try other options. Plus that stone fruit salad was epically delicious.

  • Review 7 (2023-03-27 - Rating: 5)

A new favorite. Great wine selection. Mediterranean food, with many of the meat offerings featuring less-popular cuts. Don’t let that scare you, the food is all delicious.Small space, definitely make a reso

  • Review 8 (2024-08-06 - Rating: 5)

On an island of viral flame-out hits, impossible-to-get reservations, and hours long lines, Sami & Susu is exactly what New Yorkers want and need: the well-reviewed (Michelin BG) but not-yet-viral place with unerringly delicious food at a really good pricepoint. To boot, its no frills but chic and small. Great for a date or intimate dinner party with friends. A stellar wine list and digestifs mean its fun too.Ive been 4 or 5 times over the past couple years. The menu changes seasonally and Ive loved every iteration. The matzo ball soup (not on the menu recently) was the best chicken soup Ive ever had. The muhamarra - I could bathe in and/or drink a gallon of. The panzanella this summer, divine. Follow your heart with the food - they know how to shop at the farmers market and they know how to season food. The head chef touches every dish that comes out 6 nights a week - quality and consistency. Whatevers on the menu, its hard to go wrong. The shrimp bourekas a couple weeks were the only underwhelming dish Ive ever had there (- good to know theyre human, though!). The wine is mostly (all?) natural, funky and fun.Sami & Susu is one of those places Ive only been telling my best friends about because I still want to make a week-of or even day-of reservation, but I think its only a matter of time until this place catches on in a big way.

  • Review 9 (2024-12-31 - Rating: 5)

Super goooooooooood definitely willing to visit here again

  • Review 10 (2023-08-09 - Rating: 5)

Now a pita shop by day, small plates by night. The lamb kebab pita was awesome! The pita is the fluffy Israeli style (my fave), stuffed with the smoky kebab, grilled onions and eggplant. Reminded me of pita sandwiches in Tel Aviv.Very excited to try the other pitas whenever I’m in the area for lunch, and will definitely be going here for dinner soon.

  • Review 11 (2024-10-16 - Rating: 5)

Solid date spot — great ambiance and quiet enough for you to hear each other! Flavours are generally well-balanced and makes you feel like you’re getting a big warm hug ☺️ (skip the brown butter tuna crudo though)

  • Review 12 (2024-06-08 - Rating: 5)

Small restaurant with a great vibe and amazing food. I try to limit my meat intake, but here I tried their lamb kebab, and it was mind-blowingly good. All other food was also great. Oh, pita bread Ill dream about for ages. Their wines were delicious, too.Overall, I am so happy to have found this place.

  • Review 13 (2024-08-03 - Rating: 4)

Vegetarian options quite limited. Dips come with insufficient pita.

  • Review 14 (2024-07-17 - Rating: 5)

Hold up! Not far from Katz’s Deli in NYC is this little gem. What started as a wine bar, has now expanded to food and you don’t want to miss it!For lunch, their stuffed pita sammiches are out of this world. The lamb kabob pita was so succulent loaded with flavors, I actually licked my fingers. And for those favoring an authentic schnitzel, it is amongst the best you will ever eat.For dinner, you will find fantastic middleastern inspired dishes and salads plus a great beer and wine selection.Tell Amir Isaac says hi.Tish was here.

  • Review 15 (2022-09-06 - Rating: 5)

Just honestly some of the best food in NYC. Full stop.Tiny spot, not a lot of indoor seating, wine & beer, amazing menu and thoughtful staff. Fantastic all around.

  • Review 16 (2024-09-28 - Rating: 5)

Very good baked paste. mushroom bureka

  • Review 17 (2024-08-04 - Rating: 5)

Absolutely delicious! This is a small restaurant with a limited amount of tables - it adds to the ambiance. The service is great - especially considering that it’s such a small restaurant. They have some great wine options. The highlight of this restaurant is the food. We got all the dips to start and the pita was divine. The dips were so delicious as well.We also got a few starters which were delicious - the clams were a highlight.Probably the best dish of the night was the Branzino. It was perfectly cooked and the creamed corn paired with it was very good.Highly recommend this spot - also good to take parents here as the music was not too loud and the lighting is good.

  • Review 18 (2024-03-26 - Rating: 5)

Really enjoyed this restaurant. The food was extraordinary. The menu does not give it justice for how complex and interesting the flavors are really enjoyed the lamb. Highly recommend it. Its a fun place to go. Lot of nice options of wine as well

  • Review 19 (2021-12-12 - Rating: 5)

The food in here is amusingly delicious! Special plates and tastes! The vibes are great, and the place is so unique.Don’t skip on that one!

  • Review 20 (2024-05-21 - Rating: 5)

Simply amazing. I stumbled on across this place and it was warm and inviting so I decided to step in. They were friendly and accommodating so I stayed for dinner and I’m glad I did. The food was authentic, simple, and delicious. The muhammara was fresh, sweet and savory, and perfect with the fresh pita bread. The fluke had a delicate caramelized sauce. The branzino was perfect for two and matched well with the leeks. I’ll be back.

  • Review 21 (2021-12-10 - Rating: 5)

Best Matzoh ball soup in Manhattan. Fabulous homemade broth, soft matzoh ball, moist chicken. Everything at Sami & Susu is so perfectly delicious.

  • Review 22 (2024-08-20 - Rating: 4)

Food here was excellent, everything was very delicious. Price wise is more on the expensive side but definitely worth for its taste. We ordered the 3 dips, tuna, lamb skewer, pork chop, olive chicken, and clams. My fav was the lamb skewer as it comes with roti which was really crispy n savory, and the olive chicken, it has an interesting flavor. Not a big fan of olive usually but for this i would order again. The restaurant ambience was nice but one thing i did not like was the smell of the kitchen since it is an open kitchen, the whole restaurant smelled like burning bread. Overall it’s worth to try! P.s i forgot to take pics of the rest as the food was so enjoyable.

  • Review 23 (2023-06-03 - Rating: 4)

Cozy and intimate small spot. Cornbread that comes with the crab is amazing!! The muhammara is a must. Hangar steak was great! Interesting pairings and great flavor on everything we had. Nice wine options. They do kind of rush you to order at the beginning but then it was fine lol

  • Review 24 (2022-12-16 - Rating: 5)

Highly recommended gem in the LES for uniquely elevated Mediterranean treats!

  • Review 25 (2023-04-30 - Rating: 4)

A really fun evening out. Really welcoming crew and great ambiance. Would love to be a local!Friendly, efficient service, mostly really good food and a great selection of lesser known natural wines. Thought the kitchen was a bit heavy-handed with the salt but nothing that would keep me from coming back.

  • Review 26 (2023-10-08 - Rating: 5)

We’ve been living in NY for a year, and tried many restaurants. For us this was one of the best! Interesting food, flavors you don’t eat everyday… the team is also so nice and friendly. Peter is just too cool! We’ll come back!

  • Review 27 (2024-07-28 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 28 (2023-03-24 - Rating: 5)

This place is awesome! Every dish was delightful, and the wine was stunning. They had a really beautiful non alcoholic wine too which was beautiful. Staff was friendly, atmosphere was intimate and food was phenomenal. The price was very reasonable

  • Review 29 (2021-10-16 - Rating: 5)

Tunisian baguette & a side of red cabbage was exactly the hangover cure i needed. Sandwich was perfect, appreciate it when the eggs are done right :)

  • Review 30 (2022-09-09 - Rating: 5)

Blown away by how well the food was prepared and how delicious everything tasted! I ordered the steak tartare, my friend ordered the cauliflower sandwich, and we shared the stone fruit plate.I ended up ordering two things to go because that’s how good the food was.

  • Review 31 (2023-06-20 - Rating: 5)

I recently took a date out to dinner at Sami & Susi, it’s a small place, which I like because its intimate and not too noisy, the server, Alex was great, food came out in a reasonable amount of time, mostly Mediterranean food. Absolutely delicious, like my moms homemade food but elevated. Highly recommend stopping by for dinner when you’re in the LES.

  • Review 32 (2024-04-02 - Rating: 5)

Super thoughtful, personable, and attentive server and waiter. Lovely environment and really relaxing. Food was amazing too, great flavors and nice portions.

  • Review 33 (2022-05-21 - Rating: 5)

Food is fabulous, prices perhaps 10% too high, staff is sweet. Fluke crudo is fab, probably cheaper than at Estela around the corner. Sweetbreads are very good. Soft shell crab lovely. Crispy big head lovely. They have trendy orange wine if thats your thing.

  • Review 34 (2023-02-26 - Rating: 5)

I’ve been to Sami and susu 3 times over the last 3 months And each time it’s gotten better and better. I love sitting at the bar or a high top and being able to see the chefs work their magic. The wine list is amazing and the food is even better. I’m an adventurous eater but have always been afraid of sweetbreads. These sweetbreads have changed mind! They amongst everything else I’ve eaten there (croquettes, Jonah crab, boureka, endive and apple salad, beans and uni, lamb neck ragu) have all been absolutely amazing! And what makes it all even better is the service and attention detail by the kitchen and front of house staff! Couldn’t recommend this place more.

  • Review 35 (2023-06-18 - Rating: 5)

I had a lovely dinner one night here sitting at the window watching people go by. Had a little dinner and a glass of wine. Inside was moody, candle-lit, and cozy. The service was just right: helpful, knowledgeable, and popped in here and there to check in and make sure the food was good.Standout dish was the muhammara and pita! You gotta try it. It was extraordinary and solid portion size for two people. It was rich with a good amount of walnut on top. The pita was baked so well.Cucumbers dish I really enjoyed and recommend. The flavors from the fresh cucumber with the richness of the anchovies and bursts of ricotta shavings was very well done. There should be a few more anchovies though! I only had like one or two small ones. Balance was a little off because of that.Mussels escabeche was light and refreshing.

  • Review 36 (2024-11-04 - Rating: 5)

Best food in LES for awesome Israeli and wine ♥️

  • Review 37 (2023-05-07 - Rating: 5)

This gem, hidden in plain sight on Orchard Street, recently opened for Sunday brunch. The banana toast made with challah bread is a signature creation, equalled only by the blood sausage. Terrific food and a an equally terrific staff make this place a must see.

  • Review 38 (2022-05-05 - Rating: 4)

The food was good and the place was cute but I’m not itching to go back for dinner. I’d be interested in trying lunch but I think it might suit itself better for fast casual vibes.Decent natural wine selection!

  • Review 39 (2024-09-15 - Rating: 5)

The food, wine, service, atmosphere, all excellent. Would really recommend this place, especially if you like something new and different. Personally really liked the wine menu, with a large variety of wines from different countries, including more unique wine countries.

  • Review 45 (2024-04-05 - Rating: 5)

Divine food!! Such a cute space too and the chef and waiter were so lovely to us. We got the whole room to ourselves as we were eating at 5pm on a Monday but some of the best food we have had in New York. The sashimi was a knock out and cannot wait to go back. The best dish was by FAR the lamb kofta and the waiter was so good to tell us to only get one ie not add another lamb kofta ball so we had one each

My friend and I visited as a walk-in and sat outside (which we expected, really tiny indoor space but it’s super cute & intimate if you make a res in advance!) I didn’t really know what to expect since it’s small and unassuming if you walk by quickly. I was blown away by everything! We got a ton of food thinking we would bring home leftovers but we ate it all plus quickly drank down a bottle of wine… it was all phenomenal. Really excellent service, top notch food but chill & unpretentious vibe. :) I have absolutely no photos because I ate it all lol. Thank you for the pleasant surprise of a visit! I can’t wait to go back.

Really just an all round great spot, especially on a date. Great take on Mediterranean dishes with a new York twist.

Truly one of my favorite restaurants in the Lower East Side (if not all of Manhattan)! They have great quality food and drinks, in a calm and cozy atmosphere, without being over priced.

  • Review 103 (2023-02-11 - Rating: 5)

Super low-key spot with excellent food and wine. The Heart main was a standout, probably the best I’ve ever had!

Im not a big foodie or restaurant reviewer type, but Sami + Susu was so good that I am finding myself here writing a review and revisiting twice within one week.I was blown away by their quality of food, presentation, service, and ambience. Its really clear to me theyve chosen an incredible team that makes guests feel right at home too.But wow, back to the food... one of the best and most fresh meals Ive had in NYC. Try the schnitzel, the dips, the hen of the woods, the fennel salad, the sunchokes... all so so delicious. Ill be back supporting this new restaurant!

If you like things a bit different, drink and eat here. Natural wines and unique cuts and flavors. Dishes are very creative. Highly recommended!

  • Review 106 (2022-10-02 - Rating: 5)

Lovely meal at Sami & Susu from tip to tail. Food was all expertly executed: wonderful spice profiles, correct salt level, and generous portions. Really liked the schnitzel and the tartare. The muhammara was delicious, and the cake was a really lovely level of low sweetness. The star for me was the sweetbreads: perfect texture, great spicing, and lovely sauce. Wine program was great: well curated and priced and matched the food. The space is very cozy and very well thought through. Staff throughout was all lovely. Go make a res and sit at the bar!!!

The place is really small inside, not much seating but they have a few tables outside (covered). I got the chicken parm sandwich (special) and it was delicious. The food came out very fast and you can tell all the ingredients were super fresh. Definitely recommend for lunch take out or eat in.

My favourite lunch or brunch spot in LES. love the spicy tuna sandwich or chicken sandwich. fries portion is perfect for one person which gives you an excuse not to share. lemonade adequately sour… love this small spot.dinner is definitely a more refined affair, pretty expensive for smaller portions. liked it, but will stick to coming here for lunch.

Got the beef tongue and the Jonah crab. Both out of this world! Staff was so friendly and knowledgable as well!

  • Review 110 (2022-04-23 - Rating: 5)

Stopped in here after Le French diner a couple steps away was full even though it was around 10:30pm. Decided to pop in, and asked if the kitchen was still open. Luckily it was, we ordered the Jonah Crab, beef tartar, burrata, and pigs head. All excellent, but the Jonah Crab and beef tartar stood out, they are the best dishes I’ve had in recent memory. So glad they were open, incredible meal that saved the night!

The sandwiches are a little bit on the pricey side, but its New York and its well worth the cost for quality. We tried the arayes and the chicken pita sandwiches- both were extremely flavorful and had very well cooked meat. I will be coming back.
