    My absolute favorite wine bar in the city!! The decor and furnishings make this place super cozy and delightful to be in. I come here in the evenings multiple times a week just to relax and unwind with a glass of wine. The staff is incredible!! Super friendly and accommodating. Especially Cynthia, Pedro and Alejandro!! The food is also really good. I’ve tried a bunch of the appetizers, sandwiches and desserts and they never disappoint. Also, the wine selection is extensive and very diverse. Definitely recommend this place any day of the week!

    Stunning secret escape from the bustle of the city and so close to the Gershwin Theatre for those pre show drinks. Gorgeous wines, lovely service and great atmosphere; loud enough music to create a vibe but low enough to be able to talk.Didnt try the food this time.

    One of my fave wine bars especially before or after a show. I always bring people here for a cozy wine experience. Cynthia is a gracious host and always treats people right. Affordable and great wine list!

    Love coming here, theyre great with large groups, small groups or just to meet a couple friends. Cindy is always working the bar and she is wonderful, so attentive and accommodating. The food is all apps and picky food but it is good here, my favorite is the mushroom flatbread. Great wine selection and even if you dont know what you want, Cindy and help you find it. Love the cozy vibes too.

    Great, quiet atmosphere. Wine by glass or bottle. Delicious tapas (small plates). We ordered several and shared: Meat and Cheese Plate; Mushroom, shallot, onion tartine; baked Camembert and Apricot Preserves, and Chocolate Truffles for dessert (truffles are VERY small). We had a wonderful time with great service.

    Great selection of wines in a low lit room. Great spot for a date night out! The staff are really friendly and super helpful! It does get busy so make sure to arrive before the big rush (or arrive after it!). Make sure you have your vaccination card handy!

    My boyfriend and I went on a quick trip to NYC before visiting family in the east coast from the west coast. We popped in not expecting much of the wine (we live near Napa and Sonoma which has some of the best wines ever). The ambience and decor was so well done. Then we ordered wine, and it was amazing! so amazing we came back for a night cap all three nights we were there! I think we had a total of 6 bottles of wine. (Hey, we were on vacation!) we ordered some of the small bites and those were tasty as well. My only complaint would be that I can order any and have it shipped to California! Definitely coming back during my next visit to NYC!!

    Wonderful wine bar. Lots of different wines to choose from, great selection from all over the world. Small plates available. Wine available by the glass or by the bottle. I enjoyed a glass of chablis and cremant.

    Surprisingly uncrowded wine bar in the theater district. Came here for a friends bday and thought space was perfect, ambiance great and drinks solid. Now I know theres a good bar in midtown that we can head to after a broadway play!

    A gem! Just a couple of minutes away from the Times Square but very quiet and cozy. Every single wine on the menu is available by the glass. The wine list is somewhat skewed towards France but there is plenty of great US stuff too. Extra points for having Steve de Longs maps on the walls, I am a big fan.

    We hosted an engagement party here and it was perfect! Plenty of space in the back corner of the bar -- and the staff, wine, and vibes were great. Vanguard will always be a special place for us. Thank you!

    So happy that my favorite UWS spot opened another location on 51st Street!! Nothing better than seeing Isabel at the bar providing excellent service and suggesting superb wine. Honestly, if you are looking for a cool wine bar with fantastic food...look no further! This new space has the same vibe as the other locations just slightly bigger...still awesome!! Cheers to this new location!!!

    Needed a place to pregame before dinner with the coworkers. Among the madness of sports bars and theater crowds was this quiet gem. my gorgeous tattooed bartender welcomed me with a lovely Pinot and encouraged me to try the open faced sandwiches. I chose one with goat cheese, jambon, and Mission figs. entertained by the wine descriptions, the eclectic mix of music and the bubbly service, I decided then and there, I would most certainly be back. UPDATE: went back, got a Cab Franc, which is my new favorite red. I wish this was closer to my house, but so nice to have a wonderful place in Midtown to enjoy, as well.

    Love this wine bar!! The perfect ambiance and, most importantly, an amazing wine list. The staff is also super friendly and makes you feel right at home from the moment you walk in. Perfect spot for a date or a girls night :)

    Stopped by Vanguard after getting Thai food nearby and had a really relaxing nightcap. The service was exceptional, with the personable bartender a highlight. Wines were excellent and fairly priced. Would happily recommend others give this Vanguard location a try.

    I can’t emphasise my love for this place any more. The moment you enter you are treated like family. Unsure or intimidated by the wine selection? Cynthia will help you out and ask if you will like to taste it first to be sure. Pours are accurate and there is no shortchanging.Tapas like bites are prepared to order and you won’t stay dehydrated with water always on the table in a recycled wine bottle.It never gets too rowdy and has booth seating for bigger groups but also bar seating for solos.They even have the entire wine varietal table in the washroom for your perusal.

    In a recent visit to the Big Apple, we found this amazing wine bar. Lots of great wine choices from an array of smaller distributors. Staff was super friendly and professional. Truly enjoyed ourselves on several visits. Cheese and charcuterie board was a nice addition to the wine selection. Extremely recommended.

    Immaculate low key vibes. A fantastic spot for a night cap and a snack to end a night out, or to kill a few hours. Bring a book and post up at the bar by yourself or bring some friends and chat for a few rounds.

    Great spot near the theatre district. Went on a Saturday evening and was not crowded at all. Prices are on par with the neighborhood, but not overpriced, given the excellent selection of wines and food. This one looks almost the same as the one on the upper west side, as far as the interior decor. Great spot for a date, ambient noise, and not too loud.

    I am beyond excited that finally Vanguard opened a bar in Midtown!!.. This place is for starters has amazing wine and second such delicious treats that pair so well with everything. I love the atmosphere and the staff is amazing and helps me with my wine skills so i can show off later lol. This is def a must to visit if your coming to NYC or in the Midtown area before a show. You wont regret it.

    Went in for nightcap wine. The bar tender was nice and when I asked for Prosecco she said they did not have it but instead offered a bubbly white burgundy, which was fine, and as expected for a midtown kind of classy, relaxing bar, a bit expensive, I think $16 for a glass.
