Food: 4/5Food was great and does capture a lot of Asian flavours. I deducted a star because the food was too spicy and the menu didnt state it would be spicyRecommend: oysters and uni, eel club, pea shoot, black cod clay pot without the spicy soy sauce, cereal shrimp, mango puddingService: 4/5Service was great for the most part, but I had asked the server where the lamb was from and I asked if he could confirm and let me know as that decides whether I would order the lamb or not. He never returned to let me know and I had to ask again. He also didnt let us know the oysters and eel can come in 3 or 4 until we asked him how many it came with. For the prices youre paying at this place, the servers should offer the option when they see the table has 4 people, other restaurants doAtmosphere: 5/5It has 2 stories - upstairs is smaller and more intimate, downstairs is larger and louder therefore feels a bit more casual, but the decor is amount the same. I really liked how they decorated the wall behind the upstairs barPrice: 4/5Most dishes are priced appropriately but you definitely are paying more for the atmosphere than the dishes itself

What an amazing experience we had. The drinks were amazing. The service was on point until the place got crowded. The staff kept a smile on and was still as attentive as possible. The pics don’t do justice to the favor and mazing food. If you like Asian place / definitely come and try. Lastly - I loved the restaurant look. It was so cool and chic.

Came here to celebrate my birthday dinner! lovely ambience and interior. we ordered some dishes: hainanese chicken, duck clay pot, etc to share - which were all delicious! definitely recommend this place for a special celebration :-).

  • Review 4 (2024-05-26 - Rating: 5)

Awesome foods and service! The portions were on a smaller side so we had to order more to share. All we ordered (eel club, duck pie tee, salmon carpaccio, crystal dumpling, and black cod claypot) tasted great!

  • Review 5 (2024-07-30 - Rating: 5)

Came in on a Monday to an empty restaurant. We ordered the Eel Club, Duck Pie Tee, King Prawn, and the Black Cod Clay Pot.I am a bug fan of foie gras, and loved the Eel Club. I didn’t like the flavors of the Duck Pie Tee so much, and thought the King Prawn was a little basic. The Black Cod Clay Pot was delicious, however.

My family was at MOMA and were looking for a place close by and unique. This place checks all the boxes. The food and drinks are awesome. The atmosphere is amazing, but the people made this one of my favorite places. The Maître d’ is Matt and you can see in the photo, he cares. My daughter and he talked food and @simplysoutherncollection turtle tracking bracelets. He gave a great run down of what to order and he was right. Thank you Matt! Our server was Dennis and he was awesome. He never rushed us had awesome recommendations and talked me into trying a signature drink that I had hesitations about. Not a fan of a certain bourbon....he was right the Osaka Old Fashion was great.Assistant server was Arnold and he was also great. Had great suggestions as well and made sure everything was top notch.Imagine a restaurant where the food is amazing and the people are awesome. This is it. Thank you for a delicious and wonderful evening.

Can we give 53 fity-three stars? In a fashion fitting for the MoMA, 53 is litty in the middle of NY City. The vibe is wavy from the moment you walk in to the bar area to the anticipation you feel while descending to the main restaurant floor.Whoever picked the playlist has hacked my Spotify account - and Im not mad about it.Thoroughly pleased from beginning to end.Sesame sour was one of the most unique cocktails and it grew on me from the first sip (hard to put down).Toro tartare with caviar kicked off the first of four courses with a clean salinity to cleanse the palette. Royal shumai took dumpling craft to stratospheric heights. The duck pie tee was a flavor and texture explosion of epic proportions. And the eel club was a three piece tour de force on a plate. Not to mention...the universe smiled on me in the sommelier department: 53 had 2020 Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru BY THE GLASS due to a lucky mishap earlier in the day.Gold stars for 53✨✨✨

Excellent cocktails and friendly bartenders. I love sour cocktails and their Silk Road knocked my socks off. The ambience was also stunning and luxurious yet remained intimate and romantic.

  • Review 9 (2024-12-11 - Rating: 5)

My bf and I here for the anniversary and it was fantastic!! My favorite is truffle chicken dumplings! They even gave us a complementary sorbet! Will return!

  • Review 10 (2024-06-08 - Rating: 5)

Instantly up there with one of the best dining experiences of my life. From the vibe of the place to the hospitality of the staff. To the killer cocktails and absolutely gourmet cuisine, this place just shot up in my list of favorites in NYC, maybe the world. Thank you guys for taking such good care of us. Will definitely be back.

  • Review 11 (2024-08-24 - Rating: 5)

The food was delicious, ambience is great, and staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. we went without a reservation and sat at the bar for dinner. will definitely be back!

  • Review 12 (2024-06-29 - Rating: 4)

I had the lunch set and Singapore mock tail. Food was delicious but I don’t recommend the cod clay pot bc it’s a tiny portion of fish, too expensive for a bowl of rice. The flavor was also a little bland for me. The mocktail was delicious but a lot of ice. Service was excellent and it’s a really cool decor and layout. Portions are okay on the smaller side. i wouldn’t go really hungry. Overall you can get good service, larger portions, tastier food for less $$ in this area BUT it was a nice one time experience.

  • Review 13 (2024-09-28 - Rating: 5)

Love! The food was amazing. The atmosphere was very nice and the people are very friendly. I would recommend if you are looking for a fancy Asian fusion in midtown !

  • Review 14 (2024-12-22 - Rating: 4)

Great vibe, the bao and beef tenderloin were incredible. However, I don’t know that it’s Michelin star good if that makes sense. Cocktails were good too, but not excellent and very expensive. Perfect before the theater though!

  • Review 15 (2023-12-08 - Rating: 5)

What an amazing restaurant. I had no idea before I walked in that this establishment is owned by the same owner as Marea as well, which is one of my favorite restaurants in New York City. The food, service, and decor at Fifty Three were all perfect. The main dining room is downstairs, and there are no windows other than a skylight, but they have made this space work beautifully. It is definitely a great special occasion or client event type place to dine at for high-end Asian cuisine and a restaurant that Id highly recommend!

  • Review 16 (2023-02-21 - Rating: 5)

Quality of food and drinks is phenomenal. Pricing for what it is made sense as well. The Singaporean chef brings in Malay flavors but pairs them well with find dining. I thoroughly enjoyed the duck pie tee, foie gras eel bite, crystal dumpling, soup dumplings and scallops. The lobster rice did feel a little short. In terms of desserts, mango one was must get. I wasn’t particularly a fan of the peppercorn in my chocolate but I know it’s a thing to do. I recommend this restaurant.

  • Review 17 (2024-04-25 - Rating: 4)

Small portions. Love the eel and Foie Gras appetizer. However a little disappointed with all the dim sum-like dishes. It tastes nothing like dim sum. The duck pie appetizer is far too sweet. Overall less Asian flavor but more of an American bbq style.

  • Review 18 (2024-07-06 - Rating: 5)

Absolutely loved the atmosphere of 53! Great place to take someone on their first date or an anniversary like myself tonight. Service was amazing and the food was very tasty! I will be coming back very soon. They were also very accommodating to my partners kosher diet.

  • Review 19 (2023-03-25 - Rating: 4)

After visiting this place I’d definitely recommend coming and try their Asian fusion dishes. All were quite good, especially loved the clay pot rice & carpaccio. Lamb and chicken felt a bit mediocre and didn’t really catch us. It is a little bit over priced, but overall we had a great experience and especially the service is super attentive and nice. Would give the service alone 5/5.

  • Review 20 (2024-12-31 - Rating: 5)

I came here to celebrate a family members birthday, and it was perfect! Everyone was so friendly and thoughtful, to say nothing of how delicious the food is. I had the duck pai tee to start, and then the special wagyu filet clay pot. My dining companion had the lobster spring rolls then the lobster in lotus leaf. We were both very happy with our choices, and the nama chocolate dessert was superb. Also, miso butterscotch ice cream? Brilliant. Could eat by the gallon. Cant wait to return and send more friends here. Thank you!

  • Review 21 (2023-08-11 - Rating: 5)

This has easily become our favorite restaurant in NYC! My husband and I decided to have dinner here two weeks ago to celebrate our wedding anniversary. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and escorted to our table. On the way to our table multiple staff members greeted us, this was such a nice touch. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and perfect for a date night. After being seated, our server Sheila came over and introduced herself, she reviewed the menu with us and recommended drinks. For drinks we ordered the coke de blanc and an old fashioned. The drinks were really good and you can tell it was made to perfection. For appetizers, we ordered the duck pie, toro tartare, king crab, oyster & uni & royal shumai. Every single appetizer was delicious! The portions are small but the dishes are filled with flavor and the presentation is beautiful! For entrees, we had the king prawns, lamb ribs & scallops along with the lobster fried rice. King prawns and lamb ribs were great. The lobster fried rice was also very tasteful and filled with lobster. The scallops were not as great as every other dish we ordered. For dessert we had ice cream & the nama chocolate which we really enjoyed. Throughout the night we had two managers check in on us and our server Sheila was the absolute best! Freddy was also very helpful throughout the night with the check ins. My husband and I had a wonderful dinner here to celebrate our anniversary and will be back very soon.

  • Review 22 (2024-02-27 - Rating: 4)

Overall rating: 4.49I already know I’m not the target audience, but rating based on the taste vs the price. I was NOT expecting this to be an Asian fusion place. Good try but stress on fusion vs Asian.- Norwegian King Crab: 6/5 only 3 pieces but very delightful- Royal Shumai: 4/5 eh not worth it- Duck Pie Tee: 5/5 very good- Bok Choy: 4/5 good- tiger prawn clay pot: 4/5 eh- kung pao quail: 2/5 do not get. They smother the quail in sauce and it gets lostI have a higher tolerance for Asian food because I’m Asian. I thought the food was okay but not for the price. Again, I’m not the target audience. If you don’t eat Asian food often & you’re likely a tourist staying at a nearby hotel.. you may like this! But if you’re a local, I’d choose otherwise.

  • Review 23 (2022-06-25 - Rating: 5)

This restaurant was amazing! I brought my boyfriend here for a little birthday dinner and it did not disappoint. From the atmosphere to the hospitality to the delicious food everything was 10/10. We will definitely be coming back to try other dishes. If you go here please make sure you try the Black Cod clay pot dish! The cherry on top was the complimentary scoop of coconut ice cream they surprised us with for his birthday. A memorable dinner and experience, we’ll be back soon :) Thank you to our knowledgeable and extremely courteous waiter, Greg. The entire staff was wonderful as well!

  • Review 24 (2024-08-11 - Rating: 5)

53 is the perfect place to go for special occasions. The ambience is beautiful, flooded with natural light during the day and a romantic ambience at night. The food is spectacular. There’s a prix-fix menu for lunch that is one of the best deals in town. A the night, the a la carte menu always has excellent options- and there are off menu chef specials that are delightful.A staple to get is the show-stopping, amazing seaweed salad. Everything noodle related is a good option. The lamb ribs were excellent. Mango pudding is the perfect ending.Service is five stars.

  • Review 25 (2023-08-18 - Rating: 5)

We had an amazing dining experience at 53, and it was our second visit in over 6 months. The food and service were consistently excellent. Our waiter, Max, went above and beyond to ensure that our dining experience was enjoyable and satisfying. The dining room itself was stunning, with comfortable furniture and a lovely ambiance created by the dimmed lighting a creative decor. We highly recommend sitting in their downstairs dining room, as the striped color detail adds a fun and energetic vibe, accompanied by great music. Our favorite dishes included the chicken truffle bao, beef carpaccio, and black cod miso. We were so impressed by them that we would definitely order them again!! The total cost came to approximately $140 per person, including tip and a drink. It was definitely worth the price considering the generous portion sizes and the exceptional flavors that each dish offered. I would recommend dining here!

  • Review 26 (2023-01-23 - Rating: 4)

Had dinner here on a Wednesday night. They have 2 seating areas, one upstairs and one downstairs. Upstairs feels a bit more casual. Good mix of general SE Asian food flavors / dishes. Food portions are good to share for 3 people. Yellowtail carpaccio seemed to the be smallest portions of the fish carpaccio options.Cereal prawns were great, a mix of sweet and savory. Pricing is what you’d expect for a place like this - we spent $80/pp without drinks.

  • Review 27 (2023-02-20 - Rating: 5)

Asian fusion restaurant with family style dinning experience married with the finnese of a trained chef. The food was simply outstanding Eel Club, Skate and Kung Pao Quail were all amazing. We did a tasting of 9 items and felt full in the end with room for dessert. Excellent wine list with good pairing recommendations in addition to the two full bars and great bespoke cocktails. Mango Pudding was really good plus a selection of teas after meal is just perfect. Service was attentive providing excellent information and recommendations. An outstanding experience.

  • Review 28 (2024-11-13 - Rating: 5)

As a Singaporean visiting the city, the flavors of the food here are very authentic and can easily see why it’s on the Michelin guide. The chef managed to maintain the Asian flavors that is familiar to us from Southeast Asia while elevating it to make the whole dining experience special. Staff are also amazing and it’s just such a wonderful dining experience that we came twice during our short trip here in NYC. The chicken rice is very good and so are the claypot rice dishes. We love the one with the cod. Can’t go wrong with any of the starters also but the seaweed salad is very refreshing and definitely worth trying out.

  • Review 29 (2024-03-31 - Rating: 5)

Outstanding modern Asian restaurant. Everything is excellent on it. The ambiance, the food, the presentation of the dishes and the service. The seafood, the baos, the ribs, all the ones we tried were excellent.

  • Review 30 (2022-11-25 - Rating: 4)

It was an outstanding Asian Fusion journey at 2022 Thanksgiving Day with my girl. She took a lot of time to get these pics trimmed. You’re welcome! The shrimp dumplings are the best out of those. Secondary would be the lamb! Very saucy l, kinda spicy, and savory. Plus, ambiguity and intimate ambiance are good for dating or small talk.

  • Review 31 (2024-04-07 - Rating: 5)

Kate the bartender was fantastic. Food was great, vibes were great. The steak carpaccio and black cod clay pot were exceptionally good. Razor clams - I’d skip. They were still a bit gritty.

  • Review 32 (2024-06-08 - Rating: 4)

Gorgeous atmosphere💕Very good food. The fluke was especially delicious. Reasonably priced.

  • Review 33 (2022-06-27 - Rating: 5)

Absolutely exceptional! My fiancé surprised me with dinner at 53 to celebrate my birthday and our experience was nothing short of amazing. We started our meal with the lobster spring rolls which were loaded with giant pieces of delicious lobster. Then we split the black cod clay pot and the skate. Two days later Im still dreaming of both dishes! We cant thank the staff enough for their friendly service and for making our evening so special. We will certainly be back soon!

  • Review 35 (2022-12-07 - Rating: 5)

Really loved the ambience, the design and the waiters. Everyone was very friendly and professional! Definitely try the duck pie tee, one of the best dishes I have ever tasted (ordered it twice).

  • Review 36 (2024-10-28 - Rating: 5)

First of all, let me tell you this place is a hidden gem. Me and 😍😍My Wife 😍😍 went here for our anniversary. The restaurant is perfectly placed in the heart of Manhattan and is a pleasant surprise when you walk through the door. The lighting is perfect as it is darkly lit and keeps all eyes focused on what is in front of them. The food was delicious and the presentation was second to none. I highly advise everyone to stop by 53 and enjoy this fantastic restaurants food. Oh it might I add you may bump into a star or two at this restaurant.

  • Review 37 (2024-12-08 - Rating: 5)

Fantastic brunch, innovative dim sum experience, elevated ingredients and delightful decor.

  • Review 38 (2023-06-04 - Rating: 5)

Food is amazing, portions are very tiny. The price isn’t that expensive and very reasonable for the quality. A great ambiance for a date or anniversary, but since it’s Chinese cuisine this place is better suited for larger groups (4+).

  • Review 39 (2023-04-06 - Rating: 5)

Went here for dinner spontaneously and was pleasantly surprised!! Enough to compel me to leave a review since the reviews were lower than I expected. Such a cool space with aesthetics any basic girl will love.Got the fluke, duck pie tee, royal shumai, xiao long bao, hainanese chicken, grilled king prawn, black cod claypot, kung pao quail, and egg noodle.Fave dishes were the Duck Pie tee (all the flavors in one bite is unreal #foodgasm) and black cod claypot was also really good. Overall food experience was great and I got the Singapore sip cocktail which was perfect for me who doesn’t like to taste the alcohol but definitely did feel it.Also bonus that they have coatcheck for coat and/or bags which is super convenient if you’re coming from work like I was.

  • Review 40 (2024-11-25 - Rating: 5)

Excellent company dinner. The fused Asian fare was very tasty. Everything was fresh, uniquely seasoned. The service was super attentive.

  • Review 41 (2024-08-20 - Rating: 5)

Stellar service, ambiance, & food! Definitely up there price wise with most cocktails being ~$26+ and the average of plates being ~$40. However, the experience was great and for me, was worth it.I recommend trying at least one clay pot dish, adding to about 2-3 plates per person (depending how hungry you are).I also really enjoyed the Golden Empress cocktail. It wasn’t busy on Monday night, but making a booking in advance is always a safer bet. Thank you for having us— you have wonderful staff!!!

  • Review 42 (2024-09-10 - Rating: 5)

I can tell I will come back again!! Food is so good!! Foie Gras super yumm!! Black cod rice must try!!!

  • Review 43 (2024-08-27 - Rating: 4)

53 is hands down one of the top restaurants in midtown New York. A refined experience from top to bottom, 53 is a perfect destination for the special occasion.A menu that is filled with an array of smaller but shareable dishes, it is easy to try a variety of dishes. To get the full experience, I would recommend trying one to two dishes from each section of the menu. The rock shrimp and Xiao Long Bao were two standout offerings. In addition to the incredible food, the dining room is really quite stunning. While the main floor is set off by a distinct bar and lounge aesthetic, the subterranean dining room has an elegant aesthetic. Dad gives you the feel of an upscale night in New York City.Though midtown struggles for quality restaurants, 53 is carrying the banner for a rejuvenated dining scene in the neighborhood.

  • Review 44 (2024-02-03 - Rating: 5)

Very popular place and getting a table during g prime weekend times can be tough. Amazing food. Highly recommend the black cod in crispy rice.

  • Review 45 (2024-11-13 - Rating: 5)

Fantastic food option in Midtown. We were a party of four and about to see a show in Midtown. We were promptly seated and immediately blown away by the decor and ambience. The cocktails were awesome we went thru all of them. 😂 my fave is the Fade into Jade which is on a sweeter side and creamy due to the coconut. We ordered three dishes from the dim sum section of the menu. We also ordered four other main dishes that includes, hainanese chicken, skate sambal, beef satay and duck clay pot rice. The duck claypot rice and hainanese chicken rice are spot on! Similar in taste like the ones I had in Singapore.Overall - it’s an excellent and reasonably priced (for midtown!) cantonese/singaporean restaurant in NYC.

  • Review 46 (2024-12-30 - Rating: 5)

We had a Good experience dining at 53As you seen on social media platforms everything is legit. Our highlight of the night was this $21 seasonal fruit, feel like we getting a mysterious box. Grapes were half good, persimmon are somehow bruisedWe take it as a fun experience

  • Review 48 (2022-07-27 - Rating: 5)

Marvelous dining experience here at 53. The waiters introduced every dish we have ordered and served quick. The dished themselves are great and nicely cooked.

  • Review 49 (2023-03-21 - Rating: 4)

Pricey but solid. Headed by a singaporean chef whom i have to give kudos to. There are quite a few dishes on the menu that give homage to my hometown, including the sambal skate (stingray), duck pie tee, hainanese chicken (wheres the ginger rice!) and beef sate. All were executed well but its hard for me not to balk at $25-30 for 3 dumplings, whether they are truffled or not. Blame the luxury condo this is attached to and their exorbitant rents, i guess. The black cod claypot rice was another standout and comparatively worth the value given that it couldnt be finished in three bites. Nice atmosphere although the main dining room is located in the basement and exudes a slightly clubby feel. I’d come back if it was a client dinner.

  • Review 50 (2024-10-25 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 52 (2023-10-24 - Rating: 5)

I’ve been several times now as it’s convenient for work and it is absolutely fantastic every single time. The ambiance is unbeatable - from the second you walk through the door everything from the lighting to the architecture makes you know you picked the right place. I’ve had almost everything on the menu at this point and it’s just SO good. Recommend getting a little of everything to share with the table. The cocktails- especially the one with black sesame was so well balanced. Highly recommend and will continue to come back!!!!!

As part of my Birthday celebration we chose restaurant 53 on 53rd Ave in New York City. Our evening at 53 was nothing short of spectacular, from start to finish, with impeccable service that made the experience memorable. Our server, Jack, was phenomenal, delivering outstanding service with a smile and timely attention to our dining needs. My apologies for not mentioning all other service personnel who checked on us and who rendered an equally wonderful service.Complementing our meal, the sommelier expertly navigated us through their wine selection, ensuring the perfect pairing with our dishes. We began our culinary journey with a shared Mizuna salad, adorned with chanterelle mushrooms and the luxurious touch of truffles—an exquisite start. For appetizers, I indulged in the Crystal Dumplings, beautifully crafted with morels and spinach—a true delight for the senses.Meanwhile, my wife enjoyed the lobster spring rolls, brimming with a generous serving of succulent lobster, which she found absolutely delightful. Then we shared a satay of trumpet mushrooms with mint chimichurri, another excellent executed dish for mushroom lovers like me.Moving on to the main courses, I opted for the Mushroom Clay Pot. This dish was a comforting ensemble of sticky rice and earthy maitake mushrooms, cooked to perfection. My wife savored the skate, masterfully seasoned with sambal and delicately wrapped in a banana leaf, which infused it with an aromatic richness. For dessert, I chose the incredibly refreshing coconut sorbet, while my wife treated herself to the creamy Madagascar vanilla ice cream—both desserts were a perfect end to our meal.Thank you, Team 53, for a truly wonderful dining experience. Your dedication to culinary excellence and guest satisfaction shone through every aspect of our evening.

My friend and I discovered this restaurant through mutuals and we were definitely was not disappointed. The atmosphere is what truly influenced us to give it a shot and the restaurant was so much more beautiful in person. The service from the hosts to the waiters was fantastic— everyone was so kind and accommodating.Given it had been our first dine in at 53, our server Luke had been more than helpful with introducing us to different aspects of the menu and helped us choose some of the most delicious appetizers and entrees he believed we would enjoy (the salmon app he recommended in particular was PERFECT!)The food was savory, fresh, and 100% worth the hype— as well as the drinks. Unfortunately, we had been late to our reservation so my friend and I felt like we had to rush. However, the second server that took over for Luke (Steven) was incredibly gracious towards us and ensured that we could take our time. Albeit all the dishes were perfect, the dessert had to be my favorite part. Perfect way to end the night. If you’re willing to splurge on a NYC weekend out, please check out this restaurant. We will definitely be paying another visit :)

  • Review 55 (2024-02-20 - Rating: 5)

Beautiful establishment with very good food. The waitress recommend that two people usual order 5-6 things but me and my date was very full just from 4 things one of them being an appetizer of beef carpaccio which wouldnt didnt really add to the fullness so you can can it 3 things. My only issue was the loud music that was playing which 1... messed with the ambiance and 2 causes everyone else to have to speak up to hear each other speak so the noise grows exponentially, there were several times I couldnt hear the waitstaff speak to me. I was a little worried about drinking here because the management never seems to respond to the negative reviews but my first time dining here had no real issues.

  • Review 56 (2024-07-26 - Rating: 5)

The food was out of this world, and I felt like I was in heaven. The service was very good, the people were very friendly, and the general manager Alexis was doing a fantastic job helping other staff take out the food. I would eat there again with my family and friends.

  • Review 57 (2024-03-19 - Rating: 5)

5 stars dining experience in NYC! I was here to celebrate my friend’s birthday and we were so happy that we’ve chosen 53 for our special day. The food and drink was amazing I love every single dish on the table and if you ask which one is my favorite I would say all of them, I can’t pick one! On the top of that the service was phenomenal, we definitely enjoyed and will be back again. Thumbs up!

Service was absolutely terrible but the food, vibe and music were great.

  • Review 63 (2023-12-25 - Rating: 4)

Food had good taste. However, beef was a little dry. The atmosphere is a little claustrophobic with lower ceilings. Otherwise, service and menu choices were great and advantageous. Black cod clay pot is very soft and tasty.

  • Review 64 (2024-05-19 - Rating: 5)

I wish I could give the service 6 stars, the waiter was probably the most friendly waiter I have ever had and knew the menu exceptionally well, being able to detail every item on the menu, give good recommendations (which is always nice in a place with some very exotic menu items), and knew the allergens. On top of that he was just the right level of entertaining without being tacky or getting in the way of the meal. The food is to die for, honestly I can’t believe this place doesn’t have a Michelin star. The skate sambal (they warn you that this dish smells odd and it does) was scrumptious. The black cod clay pot had my friends and I scrambling to get more before the others could finish it first. The starters were fantastic as well. This is somewhere I’d like to come to many times (already been twice)

  • Review 65 (2024-02-14 - Rating: 5)

I was very pleasantly surprised with this restaurant. We had the eel club, duck pie tie, black cod clay pot, and skate and all were delicious. It is a bit pricey, but I think worth it. The service was quite good as well

Loved the ambiance! The food lacked some flavor, but overall I enjoyed the meal. The Amethyst Cloud Sour was really tasty. The service was very slow, and the waiter was not attentive. I felt neglected throughout the night. The hostess was very friendly.

This was a great new find for us coming from out of town. It was suggested to us by.Tony at Zegna, and it did not disappoint. The decor and design is awesome. The upstairs dining lounge and bar is smaller and quieter. We chose downstairs and we are glad we did. A bigger dining room, and our server Madison did a great job walking us through the menu. An absolute must is the clay pot cod. The crunchy rice is a great combination with the dish. Cocktails were very creative and a great selection. And as a sidenote. The noise level and ambient music is perfect. So many restaurants are so loud and this was perfect. We will definitely return.

53 is a Beautiful Restaurant located right next to the Museum of Modern Art. I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try if your looking for an amazing asian fusion dinning experience. The restaurant is so beautiful with two very nice wide open bars. Highly recommend the Samon Carpaccio and the Dumplings! Only complaint is the menu is very small.

  • Review 73 (2023-08-01 - Rating: 5)

This was long overdue. We were here on July 1 after Brodway show to celebrate my belated birthday. Definitely it was first class experience. The restaurant has a chic design mix with Mad Men period. We had the table in the corner in lower level. That was best seat in the house in my opinion. The staffs were very helpful. It has been a while since I went to this type of restaurant where the staffs are paying attention to all the tables. Obviously the foods were delicious. I look forward for another opportunity to eat at this restaurant again.

Beautiful decor, which sets a perfect tone for dining journey. The fusion of traditional Asian elements with modern touches creates an ambiance that is both elegant and inviting. The ingredients fresh and presentation impeccable. The staff was attentive and friendly. They made sure my dining experience was nothing short of exceptional.

I can’t recommend 53 enough. Food was absolutely incredible, the service was fantastic, and I loved the ambiance. I went with my girlfriend to celebrate our anniversary.Highly recommend the lobster rice, the cod clay pot, and the eel club. Our waiter went through the entire menu and recommend dishes based on what kind of flavors we liked and how hungry we were. We ended up getting four dishes and a dessert. An extra dessert was thrown in to celebrate our anniversary, which was very unexpected and much appreciated (the mango pudding is a must have for dessert).A sommelier helped us pair a bottle of wine with our dishes and it was a perfect match. The drink menu is extremely extensive but she was able to narrow it down based on our flavor palatesThroughout the entire meal, many people asked how our meal was and made sure we were having a good time. Towards the end of the meal, Alex, one of the managers came to us and asked what we thought of everything.I cannot recommend 53 enough, perfect date spot. I will definitely be going back again soon!

  • Review 76 (2024-04-21 - Rating: 5)

The food was excellent, however the portions are very small. even after ordering 5 dishes + dessert we weren’t full. we would’ve ordered more before dessert but they took away our utensils before we could ask.the xiao long baos were definitely a highlight. and the cod fish clay pot, with crunchy/crispy rice bottom and tender fish. the hainanese chicken was refreshing and juicy. and the fluke starter was also very light and refreshing. the skate was perfectly cooked and tasted a bit like a cajun seafood boil.

  • Review 78 (2023-12-17 - Rating: 4)

Duck Pie Tie was amazing. Everything was amazing. I’m in love. Even the mango pudding was the best I’ve EVER had. I had to take one star off because it was expensive as hell but it sure was the best I’ve ever tasted. Will be back again, and again and again…

  • Review 79 (2023-08-26 - Rating: 4)

A lot of my friends recommended 53 to me and I went there to celebrate my husband’s birthday. There are 2 floors and the upper floor with bar is a bit tiny than I thought. The food there was quite good and we like the block cod clay pot very much. The portion of food may look a bit small but we were both very full after 4 dishes and 1 dessert. One more thing to add is the number of items in every dishes is 3 (or multiple of 3). So you properly need to add extra pieces with additional money if you have a party of 4 or more.

  • Review 80 (2025-01-04 - Rating: 5)

I give a restaurant a five star if I would make a point to go back again. Visiting New York for 24 hours to help move my brother out of the city, this was where he wanted to have his last dinner in NY. Specifically, loving a good seared foie gras, he wanted to have the eel club again, and it absolutely did not disappoint. So much so that we ordered a second round to end out our dinner (aside from dessert, of course). This is likely the one restaurant recommendation I would give to someone asking me for a place to eat in New York. The service was good, if a little pretentious, and the ambiance was pretty hip. Heres what we ordered and how we liked it.To start:Eel club: absolutely incredible. One of those dishes where you take a bite and just want to close your eyes, tune everything out, and savor it. Such a beautiful balance of texture and flavor with the crunchy grilled crostini topped with the eel and the buttery, melt in your mouth foie gras, and finally the tart cherry. Just felt really balanced and delicious. I will say I felt like the eel got a little lost in the flavor and textures. I dont necessarily say that as a criticism because I obviously enjoyed eating it, but I think its worth noting. Again, so so good that we had to order it twice.Salmon carpaccio: I was disappointed. I love a good salmon carpaccio, and this one just fell flat. Im not sure if the quality of the fish wasnt great or if it was overpowered by the excessive sauce on it, but it was our least favorite dish of the night and I wouldnt recommend it.Xiao Long Bao: soup buns with ground chicken and truffle that were great. Obviously really hot upon arrival. I love steamed buns and these were awesome. Very flavorful, was spooning soup off the plate it was so good and everything was so elevated by the truffle!Beef Sate: Really nice, well cooked and seasoned beef. The pickled onions were a very refreshing topper to the skewers. Loved it. Both of us actually preferred the skewers without the peanut sauce. Im a no sauce guy in general, but the feeling was mutual at the table.Cereal Shrimp: awesome, unique twist on a sweet and savory shrimp dish. It was essentially cereal crusted. I had to resist the urge to just spoon piles of that cereal into my mouth after finishing the shrimp.Ice cream sandwich: I was leaning toward the mango pudding but per my brothers request we went with the ice cream sandwich for dessert. It was fine, but I can acknowledge that could just be because I have specific preferences. I prefer ice cream softer, but this was served with the ice cream really hard and needing to be bitten using your teeth. The sandwich crust was kind of meringue in nature; an airy, crunchy sort of texture that to me had no flavor. I didnt love it. I ended up using a spoon to eat the sandwich interior. It was really good, but just kind of left me disappointed. My brother enjoyed it though! He liked the unique twist in an ice cream sandwich.Overall an amazing dinner and if I had one night in New York again, I would absolutely want to come here for dinner. I would order everything again except for the carpaccio and ice cream sandwich. And that eel club needs to go on a list of the top dishes in NY.

  • Review 91 (2022-09-04 - Rating: 5)

For me, 53 is already becoming one of the best overall dining experiences in NYC. It’s also by far and away the best Chinese/Singaporean food in NYC. I think I could safely say that nothing else currently comes close in terms of quality, refinement, and execution. I’ve been there 3 times now, and the execution and service were consistently great. They added a few new dishes to the menu, such as the oyster and uni, the royal shumai, and the crispy squid, and each new addition was amazing. I would recommend them all. The flavors are authentically Singaporean/Chinese and well balanced, but with a modern and creative twist. A number of dishes, such as the eel club, fluke, the cod clay pot, duck pie tee, and the beef tenderloin would rival the better restaurants in HK, Singapore, or Taiwan. I also do want to highlight the Hainanese Chicken. It is one of the best I’ve had anywhere. It’s simple perfection. If they decide to open for lunch, it be great if they make the Hainan chicken over rice.

  • Review 92 (2022-11-08 - Rating: 5)

The food we ate at 53 was excellent. We started with delicious cocktails. We then chose four dishes which was plenty for two people. After dessert, we were very full. The egg noodles dish was the best noodles I have ever tasted. The sate sauce used in the Beef sate was incredible. I could have happily eaten a bowl of the sauce on its own. The duck clay pot was amazing. The crisp rice at the bottom of the pot was mixed with the softer rice and pieces of duck and duck skin. The ducks fat soaked through the rice, making it taste divine. For dessert, we had the Mango pudding, which again was exceptional. Please open a restaurant in London! Oh, and the dining room is picturesque.

  • Review 93 (2023-12-06 - Rating: 5)

We went to 53 to celebrate our anniversary and we were so impressed! The food is delicious; we had the Royal Shumai, Lobster Rice, Wagyu Strip Loin and Tiger Prawn and a few of the specials of the day (the shumai & wagyu were our absolute favs). They also gave a dessert on the house for our anniversary - a sweet touch! There are so many great things on the menu that we will definitely need to come back soon again to try more of it. The cocktails were amazing, we had the Coke de blanc and Oaxaca Old Fashioned, and then had an Espresso martini - which we both agreed was the best espresso martini we have ever had anywhere! The service from our waiter was impeccable, he was very kind & knowledgeable. And lastly, the decor and ambience was perfect for our celebration. Highly recommend!

  • Review 95 (2023-07-04 - Rating: 5)

Everything about this place portrayed luxury. The staff was kind enough to walk us through the whole menu. We came without a reservation on a Saturday and they were lucky enough to get a bar side seat and comfortably seat 3 people. The calamari was abundant and freshly fried with a bit of spice, paired with a creamy cheese sauce. The Wagyu skewers were so rich, topped off with that amazing peanut sauce, a must try. The soup dumplings had a rich beef and mushroom broth inside and was definitely a highlight. The fried rice and fried noodles dish were also good in their own respect. Now the claypot duck fried rice was out of this world. The duck melted in your mouth and the crispy rice was stirred table side then distributed, each but was better than the next.Lastly the mango pudding tasted just like pure mango and cream and set a new bar for desserts in my opinion.

  • Review 96 (2024-09-17 - Rating: 5)

    What a great restaurant!!!

  • Review 97 (2023-06-25 - Rating: 4)

We had salmon carpaccio, Kung po quail, duck pie tee, lobster fried rice, shrimp skewers, razor clams, pea sprout sambal, duck 5 spice clay pot, mango pudding & chocolate cake. Theyve done the seafood well. Its not overcooked. Most of the dishes have very nice pungent flavors; however, not reminiscent of Spore. This is definitely a fusion place. The clay pot duck I liked the least. The crispy rice is nice & crispy but I was expecting the duck to be more flavorful & more juicy. It didnt conjure up my clay pot memories from years ago in Spore. I wish they used the sambal with the dried shrimp for the pea sprout. It would bring out more character to the dish - more like a typical Sing dish. Cant complain as this dish is gratis along with duck pie tee & chocolate cake. The mango pudding is like mango lasi & has a flan consistency. The service was exceptional! I didnt expect anything like this.

  • Review 106 (2022-06-08 - Rating: 5)

Is this the most beautiful restaurant Ive ever been to? I think so! Its basically in the MoMA and you can tell. Theres gorgeous art everywhere! The space is big but feels intimate; its moody and has a great flow. And dont even get me started on the food. We tried something from each menu section, and it was all just too good. My friend loved the salmon carpacio, but i loved the cod clay pot. And I dont normally like shrimp, but the cereal shrimp?!? i dont know what was in that breading but it was spicy and sweet and i am not exaggerating when i say we ate it by the spoonful. Even the matcha ganache dessert was incredible; way more complex and flavorful than i was expecting. We also loved every drink we ordered, especially the mezcal one, Electric something... I was lucky enough to go to a pre-opening event, but you can bet Ill be going back again and again as soon as theyre open full time!

My wife and I travel to Dubai frequently, and we often dine at Chef Akmal’s, who now has stars, restaurants. When we heard about 53 opening, we made the effort to fly in from Miami to take in this experience. Enough of the background…This food is amazing. The best Asian Cuisine in Manhattan, and it is not even close. The staff and management really know what they are doing. Our server, “Joe”, was truly on point. Lobster Spring Rolls, Chicken Wings, Scallops, and Oueww… that lobster fried rice. We had an experience. Needless to say, I will be back next month for my NYC foodie fix.

  • Review 114 (2024-10-31 - Rating: 5)

We ate a fantastic dinner at 53 last night. We had the dumplings, shumai and cucumber salad as appetizers. All excellent choices. And lobster rice, black cod hot pot and grilled tiger shrimp for the main course. We have been going to Hong Kong for 30 years and this is the best high end Chinese food we have had in the States.

From the moment we stepped in until the moment we were about to leave, our experience was exceptional! The hostesses kindly welcomed us and they guided us to our table. We headed downstairs were the dining environment was very modern and chic. We started with one of our favorite bottles of wine to pair our food with. Cloudy Bay from New Zealand. The severs were very professional and personable and introduced every dish we have ordered. They were quick and very attentive. Our Asian fusion gastronomic journey was outstanding. We started with the toro tartare, Royal Shumai, yellowtail, oyster and uni, beef carpaccio, truffle egg and lobster spring roll. Every dish was a unique culinary experience! We continued with the lamb rib and the duck (must try) and we finished our dinner with mango putting and napoleon. Modern delicious Chinese food in the middle of New York City. My husband took me here for my early birthday surprise, and the food were really delicious. We got the beef carpaccio, Royal shumai, beef tenderloin, and the duck clay pot. I honestly love all the fish but my favorite is the beef carpaccio, and the duck clay pot. My husband loves the beef carpaccio and the beef tenderloin. The restaurant is simplistic but modern. It is clean and the service is fast and friendly. Five stars!

In a city choking on its own hype, where overpriced, overwrought plates are served with a side of attitude, 53 is a revelation. It’s the antithesis of those sceney, hollow shells masquerading as restaurants, where the servers act like they’re doing you a favor just by showing up.The food here isn’t just good—it’s transcendent. Every bite is an event, a symphony of flavors that hits you like a perfectly orchestrated piece of music. Dishes aren’t just assembled; they’re composed. And the staff? They’re in on it. They don’t just know the menu; they live it. There’s no pretension here—just a crew that’s genuinely excited to share something remarkable with you. Then there’s the space—jaw-droppingly beautiful without being ostentatious. It’s sophisticated, inviting, and mercifully free of the Instagram hordes who’d gladly pay $200 for microwaved mediocrity if it came with the right filter. 53 is stylish without trying too hard, buzzing with the energy of a place that knows it’s got the goods. This isn’t just dinner; it’s an experience that stays with you long after you’ve left. The food, the vibe, the people—it all comes together effortlessly, without the ego or pretense that sinks so many others. If you’re in New York, skip the noise. Go to 53. You’ll remember why dining out should matter.

Xiao long bao dumplings were phenomenal! everything was great down to the service. the restaurant itself is so aesthetically pleasing & perfect for all occasions. the hinanese chicken is served room temp/cold ish so definitely a hit or miss for most people - though the flavors & sauces with it make it worthwhile!

I brought my niece here when she was in town on vacation for the holidays. We went to see the Rockettes and had dinner afterwards. She loved it and the staff were so accommodating and friendly. Would definitely visit again.

The black cod clay pot was too salty, the sauce was not fully mixed.

Really great spot. Cocktails are exceptional. Food is not mind blowing however justify its price. The cod clay pot and eels club were our highlight of the evening. $200+ pp. Overall I’d come back.

Fantastic flavours. The food was excellent - fresh and tasty. Server was very polite and welcoming. In NYC on our honeymoon. Lovely touch at the end - amazong jasmine-flavoured icecream (see photo). Highly, highly recommended.

Very unique Asian fusion menu not to be found anywhere in NYC. Best Xiao Long Tang Bao in town (available only on Sunday lunch), compared with the major names we have tried (beats Ding Tai Feng hands down). Among delicious one-and-only-in-NYC dishes include Clay Pot Black Cod, Hainanese Chicken. Great ambience.

Very tasty food. I liked the Singaporean dishes they have, like the skate with sambal which was delicious. One thing I didnt like is the size vs price/amount comparison of some of the appetizers. 3 thumb sized portions of foie gras $45!? Thats very pricey!

My new favorite restaurant! Had: skate, duck pie tee, lobster fried rice, toro tartare. 2 rounds of cocktails and dessert for a lil over $300, not including tip. Service was impeccable and we will absolutely come back and try more dishes!!
