Were always looking for the next farm to table experience and this one did not disappoint! Dined with my wife and longtime friend who lives in the NYC area. We started with a round of cocktails that were all very good (Ive had better Old Fashioned before, but this was quite good). The mushroom bread appetizer was delicious. For dinner, I had the Filet Minon which was topped with braised beef--something I had never seen--and it was amazing. Wife had the Venison which she loved, and friend had the red snapper which came out fully enclosed in a leaf which the waiter opened and served at the table. She was very happy with the snapper. We ordered the potatoes for a side, and they were perfectly seasoned and crispy! For dessert, we shared the bread pudding and donuts--I thought the bread pudding was out of this world. -

Everything about this establishment is top tier! I thoroughly enjoyed myself, the dining experience, our servers, the food, beverages, the decor, cleanliness, and the entire atmosphere. The menu selections were tasty and well presented. Not huge portions of anything, pricey though enjoyable with a range of options catering to any palette. Clean, photo worthy experience right on down to the restroom facilities. Great experience, and a plus for the holiday decor. -

This is a great place for a date night or to go with friends. We started with the big eye tuna tartare that had these little crunchy tortilla chips and a mango pico de gallo and was fantastic. We also started with the wild mushroom toast. I was apprehensive to have bread before a meal, but it was delicious. Then pictured, I had the scallop risotto which was very good... my wife had the butternut squash. I tasted it and It was truly amazing. When you take a bite of the the hand made ravioli, the taste and flavors in your mouth are like poetry in motion. This is a cool place. You must try it -

Great food, especially steak was perfectly done. A lot of appetizers have cheese, which is not quite my thing, but all my friends loved it. Shrimp pasta is delicious, fresh, and the portion is generous. Cocktails are also great. Service is a little bit slow. There was only one waiter on a Saturday evening, which was a bit odd. Other than that everything was perfect. -

Thank you for hosting our wedding and providing us with the best wedding experience. If anyone is looking for a wedding venue, you can stop now and just head to black barn for the best experience you and your guests will follow suit!We hosted a 50 person wedding and from the very first email communication to the very last, the process was seamless.Summary:The staff- there wasn’t a single person who wasn’t complementing the attentive staff. No one was without a drink or left waiting for anything. The smiley service was fabulous! The food- we had never been to the restaurant before and I had read a review and loved their experience. So we headed to the restaurant for a fabulous treat. The food is exceptional. The appetizers were show stoppers but the tomahawk was spoken about for days! The chef and the crew we just wanted to say thank you!Preparation- Justine the event coordinator wasn’t short of ideas or suggestions. Everything was accommodated too! Not one email was missed let alone any details on the day! I couldn’t have done it without her! -

Phenomenal! Went last Christmas Eve and we were blown away by service, food and ambiance . Just came back from another NYC visit and couldn’t not go again . We asked for the waiter , Haymen who took care of us at Christmas . He was available and served us again . He remembered us and once again made our evening special. Food was better than we remembered! Black Barn is now our must go to when I’m up visitingBest Braised Octopus ! -

Good place to have a fine dining experience even in New Year’s Eve :) Olive Oil Braised Octopus, Tomahawk Steak for two are definitely recommended. They were delicious and well served. Ambience is also enjoyable. One thing that bothered me was that the waiter with eyeglass was always restless to serve us and acted like we were going to escape without paying. -
Review 8 (2024-11-20 - Rating: 5)
Wonderful experience. We has the octopus, beef ribs, and red snapper. The snapper was good but couldnt compare to the beef ribs and octopus- both incredibly tender and flavorful. For dessert we had the cider donuts and bread pudding. Both were out of this world delicious. I had the creamy coconut mocktail. It was so good but felt more like dessert. I would definitely go back again. -

Review 10 (2024-01-27 - Rating: 4)
Restaurant week dinner at Blackbarn made for a memorable evening. The salmon terrine appetizer and the striped bass entree were both excellent. The bread pudding, while also good, was not as successful (the soaked raisins were a bit overpowering). The interior is chic and spacious, with high ceilings and an open kitchen. The noise level is passable; one can still carry a conversation without having to shout. -
Review 11 (2023-08-15 - Rating: 5)
The people in restaurant are extremely friendly. I was there last night with friends and I was taking photos, the lady in front showed me the whole restaurant inside out. So I can shoot nice pictures. Good is delicious. I never know olive salad and cucumber salad can be this delicious. The waiter and the people in the kitchen are so nice. Wonderful place. -

I took a friend to this restaurant to celebrate her birthday about two weeks ago. Our waiter, Hament (I may be misspelling this), made our experience beyond delightful- he was patient and welcoming and fun despite being very busy.I had delicious eggs benedict, and she had a Caesar salad with grilled chicken which she loved. They brought out dessert on a plate decorated with happy birthday. Both of us agreed we would come back. My friend managed several restaurants in New York, so you can imagine how happy I was when she enjoyed everything. The bus staff was also very attentive. -

If youre multiple guests, take all of their appetizers to share for the whole table. Theyre delicious, especially the pizza and the tuna. The main dishes are good too, but if you go there it should definitely be with a group of friends to share multiple dishes! The cocktails are excellent -

I went to BLACKBARN for NYC Restaurant Week 2024. The $60 meal and $60 bottle of wine deal were good. The food was yummy, but sometimes I felt it was a bit salty and the dessert was too sweet. But overall, we had a great time! -

We came here for a team event and had a great experience. The service was great. The food came quickly. The waitress knew the food and drink well and gave us good recommendations based on our group needs. The food was nicely presented and tasted amazing. I personally enjoyed the mushroom toast , braised octopus and grilled scallop very much. I also loved the bread , bread sticks and the dip with roasted garlic in it. We tried their Tamahawk steak which had a hint of barbecue flavor. The environment was also very nice and cozy for the barn style. Overall great experience. -

One word: delicious! We arrived for what I’ve learned is a late lunch in NYC (since so many places close around 3), but we never once felt rushed. Service was great, the food was absolutely delicious + cocktails were perfect too!We loved the atmosphere + everything felt clean, organized and just overall a great vibe.We enjoyed swordfish tacos, tuna sliders and the hamachi — we’d enjoy ALL of them again and again!I’ll definitely visit here next time in NYC! -

Perfect brunch spot! The atmosphere is exciting. I don’t know how often there is live performances but there was one when I visited. The brunch menu is sufficient. I enjoyed my waffle and chicken and it was filling.I am interested in trying out to pancakes. Besides that the waiters are excellent. Yunus did an amazing job with our table, he was very attentive and great at what he does! -
Review 23 (2023-05-10 - Rating: 5)
Its a very high quality restaurant, it seemed my group was the only walk-in customers. We arrived there in Saturday evening and could have seats immediately.I ordered two appetizers and three main dishes for three people, but I found two + two were enough for us. I loved the servers recommendation. Considering the quality, although its expensive, BLACKBARN can be a reasonable choice for diners seeking special experience in NYC. -
Review 24 (2024-09-25 - Rating: 4)
I went here for a work dinner, so hadn’t selected the restaurant but it had a great atmosphere and vibe. Very friendly, efficient service. Delicious cocktails. I found the food to be tasty, not 5 stars but a solid 4. I would have welcomed a vegan option on the menu. -

This was a great eating experience !! The service was impeccable and the staff was well trained and friendly. There is a great selection of wine and can satisfy the most discerning vinter. I had the ribs and the preparation was well executed. All of the food was prepared perfectly and was delicious. It is not inexpensive but worth the visit and is a memorable experience. The atmosphere is roomy which is uncommon for the city and a welcomed change. The decor is rustic modern as very comfortable. Large groups are easily accommodated and there are ample private spaces for large groups who want some privacy. Go and enjoy this wonderful dining experience. Well Done!! -

This is a very cozy and atmospheric restaurant that offers amazing small bites and drinks at an amazing price during happy hour. I loved the truffle mac and cheese croquettes and took advantage of their nightly cocktail and dinner special and ordered the cooked wagyu as my entree with a margarita. The service was amazing as well! I will be coming back for happy hour soon! -
Review 29 (2023-01-02 - Rating: 4)
We came here for NYE. I reserved a week prior and was pleasantly surprised that I was able to get a reservation. The place is massive. The staff were also very accommodating. Our table was in a more private corner which was perfect for us. Music wasnt too loud, which is very appreciated. Staff served us 2 free glasses of champagne throughout the evening! Food was delicious. Only complaint was that one of my friends is vegetarian and there was no option to swap a dish in the prix fixe menu. She had to order à la carte, but was allowed to do so despite all of us getting à la carte. Either way, we had a great time! -

I came here for a private event. Good food and ambiance overall. This place is nice enough to feel a little fancy but chill enough to come after work with colleagues for drinks. Has a back room, main dining, upstairs can be used for private events (I believe theres a cellar downstairs also). Bathrooms were very nice and clean. Overall great pic for a date night, drinks or private event. -

Black barn has been on my list for months and we finally had a chance to visit for brunch. We had the bottomless mimosas, tuna tartare, an inlet and the steak sandwich with fries. Each dish was great and prepared to our liking (we can be picky). The prices were all reasonable and the location across from Madison Square Park was perfect. -
Review 35 (2021-09-25 - Rating: 5)
Went here last night for my birthday and was honestly very impressed. Started out with the drink walking through the forest with hibiscus gin it was delicious and refreshing.Must haves of the night: the fig pizza was delicious, also the duck breast and sausage sounded quite strange on the menu however it was prepared perfectly. Very tender and well seasoned. The Seabass my mother had and it was honestly very good as well. Bread basket was top tier as well as the rum butterscotch bread pudding a perfect way to end the nightGood but not needed: the tuna tartare was very good just a bit average to what u can find else where same with the shishito peppers. The butternut squash ravioli was good as well however its very filling and wasnt a stand out of the night.Could live without: the only thing I personally didnt like was the chicken wings. I got them for my sister who loved them however I wasnt that impressed. It was a bit too Smokey and tasted almost charred. All in all this place was very good and I would love to dine back here. 9/10 overall -

Review 38 (2024-08-15 - Rating: 4)
Very good place for dinner. Went during restaurant week and enjoyed the meal. The place is much larger than it looks as once you walk past the front area, it opens up to another large back area with price rooms on the side and a second floor with tables.Service was pretty good and elegant. No one was left wanting for anything.Food was pretty good but I think small portions, however it was from the restaurant week menu so makes sense. The fluke appetizer was a little spicy with the chile but pretty fresh and good. The NY strip was good but cooked a little rare (they didnt ask how you wanted it cooked) and had some solid fatty bits around the edge. The dessert was excellent which was the blueberry cookies and blueberry ice cream.Had the additional appetizer of the roasted peaches which was pretty good, definitely on the sweeter side.Overall was a very nice dinner with friends. -

Blackbarn Restaurant – A Hidden Gem in NYCI recently had the pleasure of dining at Blackbarn in New York City, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. From the moment I walked in, the rustic charm of the space captivated me—the old barn wood and exposed steel beams create a warm yet stylish atmosphere that feels both cozy and sophisticated. The wine selection is top-tier, perfectly complementing the extraordinary food. Speaking of the food, I am usually quite critical, but Blackbarn delivered beyond my expectations. Every bite was a revelation. The fries, hands down, are the best in NYC—crisp, golden, and full of flavor. The burgers were a perfect balance of succulent beef, cooked to perfection, and dressed with just the right amount of toppings. To finish off the meal, the homemade desserts are simply divine. Rich, indulgent, and clearly crafted with care. If you’re a dessert lover, do yourself a favor and save room!Blackbarn is not just a meal; it’s a full culinary experience that stands out in New York’s crowded dining scene. Highly recommended for anyone looking for impeccable food, a stellar wine list, and a unique, welcoming ambiance. -

MUST VISIT - Personal and or Business Dining! Amazing Private Dining Options!Chef / Owner John Doherty, Andrea (Sommelier), Exec. Chef Bryan and Team have created a beautiful dinning experience in the heart of Manhattan. My very favorite NYC restaurant and they consistently provide A+ dishes and service. Well curated menu items, delicious dishes and made to order desserts.Tonight we had the truffle gnocchi (side dish) as a starter. Im not a big truffle fan but I couldnt get enough of them, they were delicious. Thank you Besnik, great suggestion! Appreciate you taking care of us throughout the night and helping with the suggestion for the kids. Our mains included the Lamb Chop, Amish Chicken, Butternut Squash Ravioli and the BBQ Ribs. Dont forget the must try, Bread Pudding dessert (Chef John Recipe) and the hot / fresh donuts.Always a charming and fun dining experience. Thank you Chef John and Team! -

Last night we decided to go to Black Barn for a birthday celebration. We’ve been there before and it’s been first class and we were not disappointed this time either. As soon as we sat there was water in our glasses and a wine steward at the ready. They have a very diversified list from the traditional old world favorites to some of the newer varieties that you might not know. They discourage byob by charging $75.00 per bottle but they’ve got some great values if you know what to look for.For appetizers we had heirloom tomatoes on polenta with burrata drizzled with a Caesar dressing for two. In addition we had an order of the fig flat bread and the Wild Mushroom Toast with robiola, taleggio, parmesan, purple watercress, sourdough toast. All were delicious. For the entrees we had the 40 oz. rib eye steak for 2 along with sautéed spinach and truffle parmesan gnocchi. The 3rd entree was a Avocado and cucumber salad with grapes. The last entree was a grilled veal chop, with roasted vegetables which came out over cooked and it was replaced within minutes by another one. A small slip up but they more then made up for it with great service and attentiveness. We shared 2 bottles of wine one a Pinot Noir from a top domestic producer then its cousin from France a Pomard which went extremely well with dinner. The desserts were a plate of homemade cinnamon donuts and a peach compote. Bottom line an excellent meal -

It is a fine dining. Very spacious for large group! Deeper inside is more quiet and luxury vibe while front side has more casual vibe. Good for company hangout place! And foods were great. I recommend lamb and white fish (t was special menu for that day). Pork was okay. Bruta salad (special) and butternut sqaush ravioli were good too! -

Im adding to my previous review from 4 years ago. I had the pleasure of visiting here 6 months ago and it was still as good as it was when I first visited. Im glad they managed to survive that C-19 issue.Had Sunday brunch here just prior to departing NYC. Great vibe, good food 🥘 had the chicken waffles which was recommended by the bar girl who was also very good. I’ll make a point of coming here again. -
Review 49 (2017-10-25 - Rating: 4)
Bit surprised how big the restaurant was as it has both a front and back part. The front has an area for a live band and the back has an open kitchen, which is where we sat. Theres also an outside area to eat at too.We started off with donuts, because - donuts! But they looked a lot better than they tasted and were rather small too considering how much they cost. Just go to Donut Pub.For our mains we had the croque madame waffle and the reuben sandwich. Both were good. As usual, the waffle was soft, but I think Ill have to accept that its just the way Americans like their waffles, I prefer the crisp Belgian waffles with soft interior. The meat in the reuben was decent, not as good as Arties (before it closed) but still tasty.Noise wasnt too bad and service was fine. -

This was my second time at Blackbarn and it was phenomenal! From the staff and service to the food, no detail was overlooked and I truly felt welcomed and at home. Our server made sure that we were happy with all of our appetizers (I highly recommend the Johnny Cakes and both the tuna and Wagyu tartare), and that our glasses were never empty of sparkling rosé. The food was truly delicious - the steak in my sandwich was cooked just the way I like it - and I wish I had two stomachs so I could have eaten more! A great place to bring family, friends, a date - will definitely be back! -

This place is amazing! The dinner menu seems limited, but thats a good thing because every single option is delicious. The service is fantastic, and the staff are attentive and thoughtful. The atmosphere is super cool - you can dress up or dress down - and still be properly dressed. A perfect place for date night, or a business dinner, or for a special occasion. -

Great recommendation from a friend of ours. We ordered the shrimp and grits, Johnny cakes and the burger - all tasted great. Their cocktails were really good too. Would rate this a 5, except that even though we reserved a table for 3 (included our 3 year old) and we confirmed that on arrival, they still seated us at a table for 2. Contrary to the opinion of some, kids are also people and may want their own seat. -

Now that the wedding has come and gone, we have the time to show our immense gratitude to the Blackbarn team. So sorry it took so long!To any couple going through the wedding process and are looking for a wonderful restaurant wedding, Blackbarn takes the (wedding) cake. lol.We always knew that food was one of the most important parts of our wedding, it’s our love language that we wanted to share with our friends and family. We knew the food was top notch, but we wouldn’t be at Blackbarn without Justine Drew.In our research, we came across many events coordinators at the venues, but no one like Justine. There were no generic responses to her emails, which at some places, made us feel like a number on a page. She always made us feel like the one, even though we knew there were others. Justine genuinely made us feel welcome and at home every time we stepped into the restaurant. Her kindness, and easy going nature made the whole process a breeze, even with the few curve balls we threw - hanging florals, champagne tower, wheel of cheese and fruit tower - all which she made happen so seamlessly. Our time with both Chef John Doherty and Chef Bryan exceeded our expectations. They spent the quality time, getting to know us, what we liked (and didn’t) - even guiding us in the right direction if they thought we were straying down a different path. We weren’t wedding cake type people (more so I’m not) and the Chefs were able to create something that represented us.Each time we came into the restaurant, whether for wedding planning or just for fun, our meals were always so delicious and fantastic. And we never went home empty handed, those donuts always followed us home.Needless to say, our day/night wouldn’t have happened without the entire Blackbarn team - from setting up the ceremony to flipping it into a whimsical dinner in an hour - it was all seamless yet meticulous, no detail was missed. They welcomed us early to accommodate our getting ready schedule and kept our nerves at bay.We are so so happy we made the decision to have one of our biggest life moments there. We will forever cherish it and remember for the rest of our lives. We cannot recommend this place enough - everyone at our wedding has said it was by far the best wedding they’ve been to.So to our servers, bartenders, chefs, back of house & front of house services, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.XX Alicia and Chris -

Chef Doherty is one of a kind and the atmosphere at Blackbarn is a culmination of his extensive New York City restaurant resume. It is, and will always be, one of my favorite restaurants to take my family. The staff is as welcoming as the food is delicious, could not recommend dining here enough. -

I have now eaten at BLACKBARN several times in the past few months, and it has always been excellent, from the food, to the atmosphere, to the owner-chef, John Doherty, who is one of the top chefs in NYC. BLACKBARN is truly one of my favorite restaurants in the city. I had my retirement dinner in its private cellar, which was fantastic, and many other dinners in the main dining room. Among the many top dishes are the venison with raviolo, the duck breast pastrami and sausage, the octopus, the salmon rillettes, and the tuna tartare. The service is also uniformly professional and informative. -

I recently attended a client event hosted by our company in the cellar, featuring a demonstration of souffle preparation. The event was attended by a group of 30 individuals, and I must say that it was an absolute delight. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the food. The preset menu included four courses, each one better than the last. The flavors and presentation were exceptional, and every dish was a treat for the taste buds. However, the real star of the night was the souffle that we had participated in preparing. It was the perfect end to the meal and truly showcased the skills of the chefs. It was light, fluffy, and absolutely delicious.Overall, I would highly recommend this event to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience. The food, atmosphere, and company were all fantastic, and I cant wait to attend another event like this in the future. Kudos to the organizers and chefs for putting together such an outstanding evening. -

Stopped by for a quick brunch while in the neighborhood and had a delightful time. The Sweater Weather cocktail was a unique surprise that was quite delicious. The Pumpkin Bread was phenomenal, and the Waffle Croque Madame, and Blue Corn Johnny Cakes highlighted innovation and creativity. Overall, a solid experience at Blackbarn in NoMad. -

In the center of the restaurant, theres a barrel repurposed as a water bottle stand, situated inconveniently close to our table. The waiters frequent trips to restock it, just inches away from us, were quite bothersome, akin to dining in a kitchen. Our meal consisted of a hamburger and a Wagyu steak. While the hamburger impressed with its flavor, the steak unfortunately fell short, proving difficult to chew, and the accompanying roasted lettuce lacked taste. However, its worth noting that the service was both amiable and prompt. -

Great dining experience!Having never been to Black Barn before, we werent sure what to order and the manager was right on point with his recommendations of the tuna tartar and the octopus salad (which we probably would not have thought of). We also tried the Beef Ribs and Sea scallops for our main courses. Try the chocolate soufflé, it’s worth waiting 15 mins…Overall the food was amazing, the service was great but we really appreciated the extra attention from manager Zoran, he was warm and friendly in a very genuine way. Everything was beyond perfect. The atmosphere is unique and inviting and the restrooms spotless. Great experience we would definitely return here. -

We did a work dinner here at the chef’s table. There was lots of food (too much) and it was tasty. The service from D was great. The chef’s table was really just a table by the kitchen; no visit from the chef as expected. The atmosphere was a bit loud for a business meal. Like that the chef is passionate about nutritional meals for his charity. For a group business meal it was good but not outstanding for the price. -

Aussie finally enjoying NYC!Coming from Melbourne Australia, we were bit overwhelmed with the NYC and it was not easy to find place where we would feel comfortable. Following friends recommendation, we came to Black Barn. From the moment we came in, we got special attention from the manager named Zoran who made us feel more than welcome and finally at the right place. Looking through the menu, we were not quite sure what to take but Zoran took time and walked us through the menu and gave us his recommendation. At first we were bit skeptical, but his friendly and genuine smile convinced us to go with it. The food was phenomenal! I didnt even know that I love shrimp tacos! We absolutely loved every aspect of the experience: the food the atmosphere and especially human touch of that fine manager that made our day! Thanks so much for that and hope to see you soon again! Cheers mate! -

When I arrived at the Blackbarn Restaurant, I was met with a warm welcome and superb service. Despite being early for dinner due to another commitment, the accommodating staff graciously attended to my needs.Nestled across the beautiful Madison Square Park, the restaurants location is picture-perfect. The alfresco dining experience and the serene park view were refreshing and calming. The weather was in my favor, and I chose a curbside table shaded by vibrant red umbrellas. My dinner commenced with a basket of freshly baked bread and a small plate of butter doused in a tasty sauce; both were served promptly even though the restaurant wasnt officially ready for dinner service. The service was commendable. The waiting staff was courteous and professional, showcasing the restaurants dedication to its patrons. The food was nothing short of excellent. Each dish was meticulously prepared and presented in an aesthetically pleasing manner. My appetizer, Bone Marrow, was made with Manila clams, a lemon-herb crumb, and a shallot reduction, creating a harmonious blend of flavors. The main course, Grilled Amish Chicken, was tender, succulent, and served with white bean and leek ravioli, charred ramps, garlic crumbs, and parmesan. Each bite was a testament to the chefs craftsmanship. The pricing was very reasonable for the food quality and the service rendered. Furthermore, the restaurant features an onsite bar that serves an array of alcoholic beverages, making it an excellent place for an after-work rendezvous or a weekend night out. However, there were a couple of areas that could use some attention. The staff, while courteous, seemed unsure when asked about the specific culinary style of the dishes served. While it was eventually categorized as American cuisine, it would benefit the team to understand the restaurant offerings better. The Diet Coke was also slightly off, being a bit watery and less effervescent than expected for such a high-end establishment. The superior elements of the dining experience quickly overshadowed these minor issues. The decaffeinated coffee I ended my meal with was a highlight - rich, aromatic, not too strong, and served with an array of sweeteners in a charming mug. The ambiance and layout of the restaurant also deserve mention, as the spacious interior and well-spaced tables ensured a private and comfortable dining experience. In conclusion, my experience at Blackbarn Restaurant was a delightful one. The slight opportunities for improvement do not detract from the overall high-quality dining experience. I eagerly anticipate my next visit to sample more of their exquisite dishes. This restaurant is a gem in the heart of Manhattan, offering excellent food and service at a reasonable price point, complete with an onsite bar. -

Not only is the atmosphere very unique, but the service is impeccable. I was there with work with a large party and we reserved the cabin room. From the seating to the lighting to the flatware, everything was top notch. I have the lamb, highly recommend that dish. Cooked perfectly, vegetables were very fresh and the plating was unique. Definitely am going to return with my girlfriend. -

Dinner for two in the Tavern area was fantastic. It was a bit of an exploratory visit and everything from the service, drinks and food all impressed. Serkan (I hope I’m spelling it correctly) was fantastic as were all the other staff who touched our table. We loved our cocktails that we had started with, I went to a glass of Pinot Noir, our server’s recommendation, to go with my 8-Hour Braised Ribs. Appetizers were Arancinis and an incredibly fresh Tuna Tartare and the Bread Service deserves recognition as well as the assorted basket was delicious. We also tried the bolognese which did not disappoint. We both enjoyed their classic espresso martini alongside a wonderful chocolate soufflé and two scoops of homemade vanilla ice cream. After dessert, Serkan was kind enough to show us the Main Dining Room where you can see a beautiful operation in an Open Kitchen, several private areas and an incredible ambiance.Overall a fantastic evening out, thank you Blackbarn. -

The food was really really good. I had the chicken Milanese sandwich and octopus as my appetizer. The octopus was great, nicely charred and grilled to perfection. The chicken Milanese was amazing with some really good sauce and tender chicken. The food and ordering process took a while as the staff didnt come to our table very frequently, so definitely plan on lunch taking at least an hour! -
Review 105 (2023-06-02 - Rating: 5)
To start off, Blackbarn is incredible. If you’re considering going to this restaurant, don’t think twice, just book a reservation and go. To start, the restaurant has an abundance of room and feels like a brief escape from the city with all of the wood detail in the interior. Our server was very friendly and attentive, and was happy to make recommendations for us.The first course: bread basket. This basket came with three different options to pair with a pat of butter sitting in garlic confit and flaky salt. Divine.Second course: tuna tartare that tasted so light and fresh, octopus with a red pepper hummus and greens, and bone marrow with clams. The only dish I didn’t really care for was the bone marrow, but I think it’s just too fatty of a dish for me! My friend really enjoyed it. The octopus was well cooked and I loved the combination with the hummus.Main course: fall off the bone ribs. Don’t sleep on this dish!! Even if you’re out at a business dinner, order the ribs. They used to have shoestring fries and have since been replaced by steak fries. We asked if we could upgrade to the parm fries instead and were told there would be a fee, and we were a bit disappointed to see us being charged for an entire side of fries, when we were under the impression it would just be an upgrade fee. It also comes with a cucumber salad which is a great light compliment to the overall dish, but our waiter forgot to bring it out and I had to separately ask for the cucumber salad. Don’t let that discourage you though, order the ribs…and to the restaurant… please bring back the shoestring fries! We also ordered the truffle ricotta gnocchi and it tasted like little fluffy clouds of creamy truffle gnocchi. Cannot recommend this enough.Dessert: bread pudding with house made vanilla bean ice cream, and a Granny Smith apple custard shortbread situation. If you’re going to order one thing outside of the ribs, make it the bread pudding. I would go the the restaurant just for that dessert alone. It was heavenly!TLDR: order the ribs and the bread pudding. Everything on the menu is incredible. Please bring back the shoestring fries. -

Update: I came back here for a work dinner and I got to try some of their dinner entrees. The food was good, however, the vegetarian options are limited and feel more to be on the sweet/creamy side. It would be nice if they had more veggie options that are as well thought out as some of their other dishes. What I did LOVE was their chocolate souffle. It is a true souffle that does take time to make and must be ordered in advance. It was delicious and second best souffle Ive had in the city. Also, BlackBarn is on Seated. If you dont have Seated, Id recommend you try it out as it gives you money back for going to certain restaurants. If you use my code, youll get $10.Service: The service was average. We ordered drinks and sometimes they came fast and other times slow. Our waitress wouldnt check in on us very often either and I think we would have ordered more drinks if she had.Drinks: The drinks were excellent here. We were all very happy with our drink choices.Food: Everyone seemed to love their food. The portion size is big. I will say I was disappointed with the vegetarian food options. There wasnt a lot of savory options for brunch and everything else was basics pancakes and french toast. I did order the avocado toast and that was very delicious and much better than I even imagined.Cost: I would say the restaurant was a lot more expensive than anticipated and I dont think the overall experience was worth the cost.Instagram Handle: @TheShahLALand -

Beautiful brunch on Saturday. Espresso martinis and Bellinis were delicious. The string band in the front room was a lovely touch (may be worth requesting seating up front upon reservation as the vibe was beautiful but a bit lost when seated in the back dining room). Our server was wonderful and made excellent recommendations. Our group of 6 all tried something different including three of the starters and all enjoyed every bite. Can’t go wrong xo -

I was gladly surprised how lovely the restaurant is decorated, like a barn but fancy. The food was fantastic. Something I didnt notice when arrived, they have party rooms. We had a great time and definitely would come back. Ah, prices are little bit high, not a cheap place but food is well served and the presentation is inviting to dig in. -

We went there for the Valentines’s day and apparently their menu was different from other days. We has Octopus dish for the starter and scallop dish and Amish chicken as our main courses. The food was delicious and presented nicely. I enjoyed every dishes, but I would say a little bit salty (I may be an outlier though, since I usually consume less salt compared to average). My only recommendation for them is to work more on their drinks representation, I had the draft cosmopolitan drink which tasted great but I was expecting it to have a nicer look and appearance. The restaurant is bid with two large sitting areas (the one on the back is nicer though!) and the service, decoration, vibe and the choice of songs were pleasant. Idk that was for the valentines day or no lol. Any how, it was a nice experience and I would like to go there again😊 -

If you’re in NYC, you HAVE to come here. The service is excellent, and the food is full of flavor. We made a reservation here for brunch, we ordered the breakfast burrito and the captain crunch crusted French toast- both were so full of flavor and delicious. The portions are huge! This place is worth the money you pay- and the little corn muffins they bring out before the meal, oh gosh, SO good! The interior is so modern, just like you’re in a fancy barn. I would highly recommend this restaurant. -

This time we took out of state guests and thanks to the Black Barn chefs and staff, I looked like a hero!! I had the Black Cod which was simply put, the best I ever had but then again everything we ordered was amazing. Highly recommend the gnocchi as a side dish or order 2 for a main course it really is that delicious. also, dont sleep on the mushroom toast as an appetizer......the table shraed the chocolate soufflé, bread pudding and caramel donuts for dessert and there is no way to pick a favorite because they were all equally delicious!! Cant wait to go back!! This place is nothing short of spectacular!! Ive been 3 times with friends and family and every single item we ordered was absolutely amazing!! Attentive without interrupting service - coffee & water never empty. The Paloma pitcher was well priced & delicious. Other items were a little overpriced. My friends and I went to Black barn restaurant today for brunch. The place was very spacious and nicely decorated. They hda private rooms as well which I think that’s nice. Their bloody mary and Mimosa were good. Chicken and waffle was so so, the chicken was a little too dry and the sauce was bland. Shrimp and grits was different than what I usually have at other restaurant. It was good nonetheless. Our favorite was the Egg Benedict, it was soo good! Service was very good too. Overalll I think this place deserves about 3.5 stars. Not spectacular but not bad. -

I enjoyed coming here for a weekend brunch. The place is huge and has a unique decor with lots of wood and warmth. The menu is very interesting. Try the avocado toast with the poached egg for something light or the sweet potato pancakes with bacon and nuts. The hamburger with egg and shredded pork is filling and comes with tasty French fries crusted with crated cheese. There was live music in the front which you can see in my photos. The sound level, despite the crowd, was reasonable. The service is excellent. Its worth going to for the experience. -

Great service, great food, beautiful restaurant. The portions are HUGE. You can likely split every entree between 2 people. -

Blackbarn has reopened and it’s as delicious as ever. We hd the pork shank and the striped bass. And the cocktail with hibiscus and ginger in it -

One of our go to places in NYC. We love eating outdoors here. The food is consistently delish and the service is great. We love the apple cider donuts to finish off a great meal. Their private party rooms are great too, we had a party there last year and everything was perfect. -

First thing is first - the restaurants decor is spot-on. Buzzing around the reclaimed wooden barn is a jean-clad service staff with exceptional knowledge of the menu and chefs specialties. Overly accommodating to allergy concerns our server could list nearly every ingredient in each dish, allowing for seamless ordering and substitutions. Braised short rib was the house specialty and was exceptional;the roasted cauliflower is also a must-have, even as a shared main course side. A wonderful atmosphere for friends, colleagues, or celebrations. -

We found the experience good and server excellent, but I have to say the tomahawk was not worth the price. -

Went there for lunch on a Friday. We tried to get reservations for 2... on 2 sites it showed up as full but finally got thru on the 3rd site. We arrived and it was practically empty and stayed pretty much empty for the 2 hours we were there. So, that was odd.The food was very tasty and seasoned. Octopus appetizer was yummy. Chicken Milanese sandwich yummy. Donut was good. The 4 stars are mainly for the food. The server was meh. She didnt make eye contact. Didnt ask if we needed sugar for our tea. We saw her chatting it up at another table so I wondered if it was a racial bias thing (conscious or not) or she just didnt like our table or what. It was weird. She wasnt offensive but her service could have been much, much better considering the restaurant she is working in. -

Chef/Owner John and his team are truly remarkable. Some of my menu favorites include the mushroom toast, the ravioli, and who can complain about the Tomahawk Steak?!!! Five stars all the way. I wish there was a way to add a sixth! -

Great food and atmosphere. Wait staff needs to be able to cross train. Asked bus boy for a Coke and waited 10 minutes for a waiter to a knowledge my request and serve me a beverage. Kinda lame when you see that a worker doesnt want to go the extra mile. -

This was our first time at Black barn and wow, I can only tell you I was blown away! We live in the neighborhood, having moved in at the beginning of Covid. It’s not on everybody’s radar screen here in the city, but it should be. As a foodie…. We eat out very often in the city… and have been to all of the restaurants that are so difficult to get into. Blackburn is a gem and stands out amongst all of the rest . If you haven’t been to Blackbarn… do yourself a favor and get there. they have two dining rooms. One is the tavern. The other is the main dining room. It doesn’t matter which of the spaces you dine in your meal will be spectacular. We sat in the tavern and were able to order off of the tavern menu and the main dining menu. Our food was spectacular. Our service was amazing. Marco the Gm stopped by to say hello and introduced himself. He is a real professional. I didn’t capture pictures of our dinner, but we had the mushroom toast (to die for) , the Wagyu steak , the Branzino (every restaurant seems to do Branzino, but none of them come close to Blackbarns version) and the Market Gem Caesar Salad (also every restaurant has a Caesar, but none of them come close to Blackbarn’s version. )It was amazing. -

The entrees were extremely good. The main dishes were ok, and there is a nice offer of wines. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the restaurant as a very nice vibe. I would have liked if they had given us a slightly bigger table, a hit tight for the nr of people. -

Food was very good. Get the ribs. Although the shoe strings are just too damn small. Half are gonna end up on the floor. Service was okay but the vibe was just awkward. -

Serving new American food in a modern, rustic chic, BLACKBARN is well worth visiting. The atmosphere is relaxed with no music, thick wooden tables, and modern leather chairs. Its dark and a bit romantic. While a bit pricey, BLACKBARN is well worth it. Boasting a decent craft beer selection and a delicious array of cocktails (which frequently are jalapeno based and err on the spicy side), the drinks are great. The food is definitely the highlight though. The bone marrow appetizer was a clear star, incorporating manila clams and a nice crunchy, crumbly crust and a lemon zest, unlike any other bone marrow Ive had before. For mains, I had the lamb shank, which was cooked perfectly and featured a delicious assortment of sides, grilled diced onions and a single large raviolo of lamb shoulder over a bed of greens. A perfect, varied and delightful dish. My guest got the butternut squash ravioli, which was a delightful combination of sweet, salty, and savory thanks to the lardon accompaniment. For desserts, we had the toffee bread pudding and matcha mousse, and the mousse clearly shined above with a balance of bitter, crunchy, sweet, and cakey. Its a bit pricey, but not out of range for the quality we got. Would highly recommend to anyone. -

Surprisingly large restaurant. Entering into the bar area it seems like a reasonably sized NYC restaurant but a rather large dining hall is hidden in the back. The drinks are well crafted and the food can be good. The octopus special and the steak were well executed but the beef ribs were far too fatty, to the point of inedible.
