After visiting the Brooklyn Bridge, I stopped by this local bar for a quick break. Its a cozy and welcoming spot, exactly the type of bar I enjoy. From there, you can easily walk to Chinatown. The bar is affordable, has a friendly atmosphere, and is a great place to meet new people.

First bar I’ve visited in NYC great atmosphere great prices has a student bar type vibe

  • Review 3 (2024-09-04 - Rating: 4)

Wild dive bar, music is always cool, but if you like to drink cheap and party this is a cool place especially late night in NY. Just remember it is a DIVE bar and by 3am it will look it. but the people are always friendly and its a good place to wind down a busy night in NYC

  • Review 4 (2024-09-18 - Rating: 5)

Cool bar. Reasonable drinks—beer and cocktails. Not crazy loud or crowded when I was there but I’m sure it can be. Don’t expect a glass of wine.

  • Review 5 (2023-08-17 - Rating: 5)

Went on a Monday night and it still had a nice crowd. Cocktails are good, I recommend the hellboy margarita. Also got nice deals like a 3 dollar hour shot if you buy a beer.Only recommendation is that they could clear the outdoor area a bit. Would open up the space

  • Review 6 (2025-01-02 - Rating: 5)

Great dive bar with a fun atmosphere. The food is a pass though

  • Review 7 (2021-05-11 - Rating: 4)

Really fun spot for a casual night out with friends! Great decor, spacious seating, reasonable drink prices - ust a nice place to congregate thats just a step up above a dive with NO STICKY FLOORS!They get busy and the servers are not attentive, so you have to wave like mad and repeatedly check on your order to get their attention.

  • Review 8 (2017-05-09 - Rating: 5)

If you are aiming to get your party started after work here is the spot. $3 shot of whiskey and can of pbr with a $10 credit min will get you in a good spot quick.Happy hour has various other discounts as well.

One of my new favorite spots!!!! Amanda is helping me and shes great!!! Just found myself a new Gem in LES. Great atmosphere and vibes. Customer service is on point. I would suggest this bar to anyone. Ask for Amanda on Tuesday nights and Thursday days , tell her David & Goliath sent ya. 5 star service. And theres a pool table in here as well!!! Im in heaven right now. Thank you Amanda for being such a sweetheart and delight. ALSO, Tati another amazing bartender who is fierce and hospitable !

  • Review 10 (2024-11-23 - Rating: 5)

We came on a Friday night, it’s such a great atmosphere to share with friends. The drinks are great and a very good price. We didn’t get to eat here but it looked like good snack food. Very much recommend for a chill night 👍🏻👍🏻

  • Review 11 (2024-01-05 - Rating: 5)

One of my favorite bars on earth! Never changes, you can smell the history, incredible location, great regulars and super awesome bartenders. If You also like this place You may enjoy watching the opening scene of the Netflix film “Someone Great” which begins with an epic uncut shot that goes from across the street and right into 169 Bar . It’s the best shot in what is an entertaining film.

  • Review 12 (2023-02-03 - Rating: 5)

One of the best dives in NY. After Covid they took away the small side of the bar, and cool window seating. Please bring it back. Everyone loves the small side of a bar.

  • Review 13 (2020-08-31 - Rating: 5)

Food, drinks and ambiance were delightful! Pina colada was deliciously stronggg

  • Review 14 (2018-10-16 - Rating: 5)

Best Happy Hour in Manhattan. $3 dollar beer and shot, and you can choose both. Friendly staff and locals. Leopard Skin Pool Table. Retro movies. And a couple of scenes from Flight Of The Concords was filmed here. Awesome find. Cheers guys.

  • Review 15 (2024-04-23 - Rating: 5)

Fun bar. Good prices at happy hour but no beer drafts. Pool a little expensive (15 / hour for poorly felted table) but overall a lot of fun, very cool staff.

  • Review 16 (2024-06-20 - Rating: 4)

Full bar on a thursday 8:30pm fun outdoor area. Little interest in customers, bouncers for the outdoor containment…

  • Review 17 (2023-05-31 - Rating: 5)

This bar is so family friendly. Bring your kids, your dogs, and your second husbands. My favorite bartender, Markers, is simply fantastic. He possesses an incredible passion for mixology and always ready to whip up a concoction tailored to your preference. The drink menu is a masterpiece, something to satisfy every palate. Overall, this place is a hidden gem that deserves all the praise. I will forever remember this place vaguely. Also Gode

Perfect for a casual date or a night with friends. Good prices

  • Review 19 (2024-12-20 - Rating: 5)

Now THIS is a proper dive. The vibes are immaculate.

  • Review 20 (2024-09-26 - Rating: 5)

Great spot to check out if you’re near East village

  • Review 21 (2023-06-18 - Rating: 5)

Classic and fun LES bar. Tati keeps it real while being super cool, I love Ian and Gode and Hugo and all the people who work here. There is even a bartender named Mia who makes an appearance who is fun. Just one of the few historic and classic places we need to support.

  • Review 22 (2023-06-02 - Rating: 5)

This bar freaking rocks!!! They are always open early, have a rocking happy hour, and are home to my all-time favorite bartender “Lake.”If you are looking for an unpretentious tiki spot with great music, free movies, and a leopard print pool table, this is your spot!

  • Review 23 (2023-06-12 - Rating: 5)

Go for the cheap drinks, stay because of some of the best bartenders in the city. Marques, Cam, Tati, Matt and especially Ian, the lovably curmudgeonous uncle you never knew you wanted or needed in your life. You won’t find a better crew pouring drinks, making jokes and generally making you feel like a part of the family

  • Review 24 (2019-03-12 - Rating: 5)

This bar is amazing!! We came in at about 4:00 and it was half full. They were incredibly accommodating and great with bar AND oyster service. There were 6 of us for my sisters 30th birthday and we loved all of it because the happy hour was so wonderful. If you are into casual dive bars I would 100000% recommend here!!!!! I unfortunately don’t remember the bar tenders names but everybody here was so great, none of us had any complaints about the atmosphere, food, or service!

  • Review 25 (2023-06-13 - Rating: 5)

169 is a timeless classic LES bar. It’s the type of spot where you might see a goblin or a ghoul on the wall or hallucinate one in the bathroom. You can spend hours here at a booth with your buddies, embarrassing yourself on the pool table, or hanging out in the backyard. You may not know what time it is, or what day of the week, but that is the beauty of 169. The staff is fun and friendly. I especially enjoyed getting to know the bartenders Ian and Hugo. You can’t go wrong ordering a refreshing Tecaté or Pickle-back shot here.

  • Review 26 (2024-01-23 - Rating: 5)

Its a great bar with generally strong drinks and a good consistent nice vibe. Definitely a comfort place for me.

  • Review 27 (2018-07-13 - Rating: 5)

Amazing bar in NYC and probably my favorite. The drink prices are very reasonable and the ambiance is lively at all times but tamed. Great place to celebrate a birthday or even just catch up with friends over some drinks. There is a pool table in the back and the decor is tacky but entertaining nevertheless. I cant stress how versatile this place and their cocktails are ridiculously good too. 10/10 would go back

  • Review 28 (2024-04-17 - Rating: 5)

Fantastic spot! Its a classic dive.

  • Review 29 (2023-06-05 - Rating: 5)

All time favorite neighborhood spot. Unpretentious and fun no matter the time of day. Bartender Marques (also known as Markers) makes the best cosmos below midtown. Chef Modelo also makes the most delicious empanadas.

  • Review 30 (2024-11-20 - Rating: 5)

The brunette bartender was lovely, pool table is 15$ an hour but worth it since it’s leopard print ;)))) must visit- great vibes

  • Review 31 (2023-07-22 - Rating: 5)

Specializing in canned beer, picklebacks and a strong cast of characters in front and behind the bar, 169 is unparalleled in the city when it comes to entertainment value. There is something about the chaotic energy of this spot. Tip the bartenders and stay on Ians good side.

  • Review 32 (2019-10-10 - Rating: 5)

I have been to this bar right after i have visited Brooklyn Bridge as a pit stop. It is a nice local bar. I guess it is the kind of bar i like. After this, you csn walk to the Chinese town as well. It is cheap and friendly. You can even meet new people there.

  • Review 33 (2022-01-27 - Rating: 5)

Just what you want out of your local dive. Stupidly cheap drinks (for Manhattan), plenty of seating, chill bartenders, and a pool table. Good for a low key date or to hang out w friends. Highly recommend the Cajun popcorn

  • Review 34 (2022-04-19 - Rating: 4)

First impression is that this is definitely a cis het place, however, if you happen to be queer and going to this place, please make sure you talk to bartender Tati. We had such a great convo and she gave me the best tips to get good food and drinks. Overall my experienced at this bar was enhanced by her presence. On the negative side I wish they didn’t have this policy of closing the back yard at 11pm because the place gets super crowded and it is a bit overwhelming to be inside with no other cool outdoor sitting. The outdoors in the front has little to no ambiance.

  • Review 35 (2023-08-22 - Rating: 5)

Good crowd but wasnt annoyingly crowded when I went, easy to get drinks, and my friends and I got this prime table where we could hear each other talk! Rlly like this place.

  • Review 36 (2020-03-17 - Rating: 5)

This bar is almost always crowded and for good reason. It is old, has a lot of charm, there’s a pool table and you can get insanely cheap drinks. Don’t be surprised if you can’t find somewhere to sit and if the bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. That’s the “charm”.Regardless of being crowded the bartenders always get to you quickly and you really can’t be the price / location.

  • Review 37 (2024-04-27 - Rating: 5)

Always been one of the best and most interesting bars. Come one, come all, and imbibe at a Manhattan staple.

  • Review 38 (2018-10-21 - Rating: 5)

The most hole in the wall bar in LES. All the way down but 100% awesome. Great scene inside when it’s popping. Friendly staff and great food and solid decorations. Tons of space but when it gets crowded you’re gonna get to know everyone around you. Line sometimes sucks but the drinks and vibe make up for it.

  • Review 39 (2025-01-03 - Rating: 5)

    Very cool bar!

  • Review 40 (2017-07-21 - Rating: 5)

Divey dive Dive. Love it. Friendly crowd. Bartenders are cool. Beer and shots are super inexpensive. Shows movies on TVs. Think it was Heavy Metal the Movie last time. I have eaten here, but it was after several libations. I just remember I enjoyed it at the time. Will return.

  • Review 41 (2015-02-09 - Rating: 5)

Went to this bar for the first time ever last night and fell in love with the kitschy decor and tiki-inspired drinks! It reminds me a little of a bar with the same them that closed down a few years ago. The happy hour crowd was boisterous and jovial, and the dive-y atmosphere is a fun place to grab a few drinks. They also have a back room with a leopard top pool table! It cleared out pretty quickly once happy hour ended but it was a great spot with fun drinks and specials. Also, its a great place to pop into if youre waiting in line for a table at Mission Chinese (located next door!).

  • Review 42 (2017-06-30 - Rating: 4)

Awesome dive with cheap drinks, table service, and a great atmosphere. Food isnt half bad either, I highly recommend the mac and cheese. Dumplings aint bad either though I feel like a rube paying so much for them when were so close to Chinatown. Bathroom situation kind of sucks but otherwise a fun time.

  • Review 43 (2018-12-22 - Rating: 5)

Best dumplings in LES, and a shot of whiskey and a PBR for $5??? My favorite spot for both.

  • Review 44 (2018-08-04 - Rating: 5)

Great late night downtown spot, especially if the early evening was expensive. $4 beers and $7 whisky. An international, lively bohemian/hipster crowd. Lit up like a festival in Mexico City. The dive bar you want to hang in.

  • Review 45 (2023-10-10 - Rating: 5)

Great service and atmosphere. If youre looking for a good dive bar to hang out in, this is the spot to choose.

  • Review 46 (2013-05-19 - Rating: 5)

One of our favorite happy hour spots in NYC. Very cheap (including awesome dumplings for like $3), very fun, great staff that weve made friends with. The only downside is there are two distinct crowds - on weekdays and during happy hour is a pretty weird, eclectic awesome crowd thats fun to be around and has a good vibe. On weekends after about 11, it gets pretty crowded and fratty, at which point we are usually happy to duck out, having had our fill of pork dumplings and shots

  • Review 47 (2017-09-19 - Rating: 5)

I really liked the feel of this place. The people here were friendly and I didnt feel an uptight vibe. The bartenders were awesome as well and they seemed to be a no b.s. kind of team which I like to see. I dont mean it as in a rude way but they seemed like honest workers and they are open to conversation. Great service and a great bar

  • Review 48 (2019-10-12 - Rating: 5)

Great local bar with the best happy hour in the neighborhood. Gets very crowded on the weekends, but a great after work hangout. The leopard print pool table is small but fun to waste time on

  • Review 49 (2018-08-31 - Rating: 5)

This is my favorite bar in the city, I know of no other spot that has a $3 shot beer special and also a place that you can text in your order before you get there. The pork dumplings rock, the coconut shrimp is divine and the drinks are strong and cheap. The decor is a mix between old nautically themed mermaids and new Orleans. My two favorite things. Plus they play old pirate movies on the TV. The place is lively pretty much any night of the week and if you want you can play pool in the back. Plenty of places to sit with big groups or smaller ones and the bartenders are all super friendly and will chat with you if you come in by yourself. My favorite bar in Manhattan.

  • Review 50 (2014-03-26 - Rating: 5)

A bit scary from the outside but I put this bar in my top 5 in all of Manhattan - EVER. Ive lived here for 14 yrs. and this ranks right up there with my best NYC experiences ever. Very eclectic, full of funky lighting. Sitting at the bar I see 4 disco balls rolling and its Tuesday. Check out the fish tank in the back.

  • Review 51 (2018-12-16 - Rating: 4)

On weekends its too crowded for me but this place is great 4 having cheap drinks and having a bunch of weird decor. As a snack I like the microwave popcorn . i am not brave enuff 2 go for raw oysters. You, too will also like this bar IF you can handle the following:dismissive bartendersa system for texting in your orders from the tables that never quite works.tables that are often reserved (with handwritten signs) but are empty while hoarded of people are standing with their drinks.Gross bathrooms with toilet paper on chains.

  • Review 52 (2018-05-22 - Rating: 4)

God damn is this place loud - hah! I could not hear my friends as we tried to talk. However, they had excellent drink specials and equally good tasting good. I only ate one of the food items but that came from some long deliberation as I found myself torn between a few options that was described in a way that made it all sound amazing. In the end, I ordered the oyster po boy and it was divine. I am taking a star away cause the bathrooms were a gross mess.

  • Review 53 (2023-06-02 - Rating: 5)

Yoooo this is the spot man! The bartender Lake made me the best drink of my life, “the Cambodian Mojito” Idk what was Cambodian about it but it was bussin as all hell. Defff tap inwards when it comes to this spot.

  • Review 54 (2018-11-01 - Rating: 5)

Cheap prices, chill crowd, “eclectic “music, funky decor.... cool spot

  • Review 55 (2017-01-16 - Rating: 5)

Great drinks, cheap eats, bartenders are awesome.!

  • Review 56 (2023-06-15 - Rating: 5)

This is such a fun bar. On Wednesdays ,Ian and Vincent, the bartenders, make me feel so at home. Love this place

  • Review 57 (2017-11-08 - Rating: 4)

Hit this bar up on a Saturday. Fun atmosphere, crowd is really mixed, as are the drinks and food menu. Great bartenders. Vibe is high energy. Music and videos on loop are random and feed into your outer worldly state here.

  • Review 58 (2016-10-31 - Rating: 5)

Its hard to beat the deals at this excellent dive bar. $3 for a beer and a shot? $2 tequila shots? Fun and delicious bar snacks? Yes, yes, and yes! Highly recommend a visit to 169 Bar!

  • Review 59 (2019-03-08 - Rating: 5)

This bar is total SLICE OF LIFE. I saw everybody there. College students crowding corners next to old dudes hashing out the old neighborhood next to poets talking esoterica next to ladies night shenanigans. At one point, some Latin Grandma started busting out moves to James Brown and some hip young gentleman started getting down with her. It was a good scene.

  • Review 60 (2015-11-23 - Rating: 5)

Awesome dive bar with a funky, New Orleans vibe. Its a great place to go with friends for a chill evening, cheap drinks, free popcorn (!) and a little dancing. Recently spotted on Aziz Ansaris Master of None, so you know its hip!

  • Review 61 (2018-07-24 - Rating: 5)

Heya I’m holidaying in New York! This place is far more fun and awesome + energetic ..It’s actually one of the coolest around the area !!Funk, jazz and soul mixture music and the ambience around, the “decor” of the place ... it’s simply wonderful to look at each corner has got its own stories..sketching there, having wine and writing some philosophically true ideals are the to do things too if you’ve got your paper and pen with you! And also iPhones camera to capture around the beauty !!wonderful experience!! 😍 cheers xx

  • Review 62 (2018-05-22 - Rating: 5)

If I could give 6 stars to this place I would. Though I still have yet to try their food, it won’t be long until I am texting them minutes before I arrive to the bar and then sipping back on many o cocktails until the weee hours of the morning. This place rocks and you should check it out. But don’t stay...I need to be able to order a drink with ease without this pace blowing up. Jk...jk. Enjoy this place as much as possible.

  • Review 63 (2020-08-09 - Rating: 5)

Oh Lord , this guys come out with this amazing empanadas. The dough, the meat. Also they have veggies empanadas .

  • Review 64 (2024-09-05 - Rating: 5)

I love this place so much. The bloody Mary rocks.

  • Review 65 (2017-11-26 - Rating: 5)

This spot is definitely a place that you must visit when youre in the city. If youre a fan of Aziz Ansaris Master of None, this is a place youve gotta visit. Its tough to get a table sometimes but wait long enough and youll get a spot, even if youre a group of six after a long night of escape rooms, dinner, and other sorts of fun haha.

  • Review 66 (2024-07-09 - Rating: 5)

Really nice spot , had spent last week enjoying going there almost every night of my vacation in New York.Didnt knew it was so famous, only now reading it here; but now I know why it is so popular 🍻It was a funny moment with the gypsies 😂

  • Review 67 (2019-03-01 - Rating: 5)

Half dive, half scene, 100% horse meat disco. Recommend their happy hour...

  • Review 68 (2020-09-20 - Rating: 4)

Asked a bunch of local bartenders where they go while. I was surprised to hear this bar 169 a few different times. This is a nice chill but fun atmosphere with a low key vibe. The food isnt exactly what you want, but probably the price equals the quality.

  • Review 69 (2015-06-26 - Rating: 5)

Great dive bar with a New Orleans theme. The happy hour starts at 1:30pm, goes until 7:30pm and includes a $3 shotnbeer special. The food is also solid.

  • Review 70 (2019-08-17 - Rating: 4)

Cool little bar. Nothing fancy. Good for a cheap happy hour and decent food. I would go back again. The mac and cheese, despite being covered with ketchup was actually pretty good. Cocktails were decent as well. I was happy that they had oysters!!!😊

  • Review 71 (2023-06-30 - Rating: 5)

The most welcoming bartenders. You have to come if youre in NYC! Tati is especially the best 🖤

  • Review 72 (2021-07-28 - Rating: 4)

The bartender Tatiana was great (I have a fondness for Russians). I loved the music. Ive only stopped by a few times in the past but I should form a habit.

  • Review 73 (2019-02-14 - Rating: 5)

Happy hour deals are insane (every day of the week). Food is great and the kitchen is open LATE. This place gets packed every day of the week, so get there early if you want a place to sit.

Dive bar with super fast service based on SMS.

  • Review 78 (2016-01-03 - Rating: 5)

Loved this place from the moment I stepped inside. You must try the okra martinis while you are there- their take on an old fashioned. Also, play pool on an leopard printed table. Love this dive

  • Review 79 (2017-11-03 - Rating: 5)

What a funky little place! Love this Chinatown spot. The happy hour is long, and reasonably priced at 3 dollar drinks. And just look at the character it has!

  • Review 80 (2019-08-07 - Rating: 5)

Apparently my dad used to come to this bar in the 60s when it was a Puerto Rican bar. He learned how to hustle at pool here. So yeah, pretty cool spot, however unsure how legit my dads stories are.

  • Review 81 (2019-09-03 - Rating: 5)

A really cool spot. Love the vibe. Friendly staff!! Crawfish were pretty good (for a reasonable price and outside of Louisiana).

  • Review 82 (2024-06-28 - Rating: 4)

Bartenders know what they’re doing and drinks are nice and cheap. Cool lighting and good music, a little cramped but it’s whatever.

  • Review 83 (2016-01-04 - Rating: 5)

Believe me the big apple will never have a bar to hangout like 169 bar.you get hungry and you feel like eating china food, chinatown its right there at mott st.you feel italian? just walk over to little italy,on mullberry st. ah!!! you like reading? you have the library across the street.jajaja,!!! FELICIDADES, from the beautyfull island of PUERTO RICO. P. S. then take a nice walk to the washington esquare park.enjoy it!!!!!!. you can even walk to centralpark, if you have thee energy and are in love.jaja.

  • Review 94 (2018-12-18 - Rating: 5)

From the outside, the place looks small but the energy from within literally shines out to thesidewalk with colorful lights and happy bar goers. Inside is surprisingly spacious, with the bar on the left, lots of tables and seating to the right side, and extends further back to a sweet pool table. The bar seems to always popping. Even on a sunday, theres quite a few people there whereas the other bars nearby are absolutely dead. Their best deal would be $3 for PBR/Miller can + well shot. They also serve some food like dumplings.

Cant really speak on much cause I only had one drink at the bar but they were playing bye bye birdie on the screen so worth the five stars in my opinion 🤷‍♀️🙂

Super long lines on weekend nights. I come for happy hour on weekdays now. Pickleback and PBR deal is still the best in town.

  • Review 102 (2018-12-01 - Rating: 5)

Nothing beats a beer and a shot combo for $3! Dive bar with lots of character. Went on a Friday afternoon around 3pm when there were plenty of open seats, by 6pm it was standing room only so start early if you want a seat.

  • Review 107 (2022-07-20 - Rating: 5)

Food is great, drinks are cheap, staff is great! This is the spot day or night!

  • Review 108 (2021-04-10 - Rating: 4)

The staff is definitely interesting. They weren’t super friendly but maybe that’s just New York. The ordering is super confusing because you’re supposed to text to order but then a waiter comes? I don’t know. Anyways the drinks were really delicious. I ordered a double cocktail snd it was super strong and yummy. The snacks were also really good! I got the empanadas and the potstickers.

Dive bar with leopard print pool table. No fess, no mess bar. Can service.

  • Review 115 (2020-02-22 - Rating: 5)

They check your ID at the entrance. The place is really nice and much bigger than the places in the same area. And I want to add that the prices is lower than the others. It is a little bit noisy but acceptable.
