Very fun. Good vibes. Reasonably priced drinks and food. We did have to stand out in the cold for an hour though, but the bouncer made sure we were entertained. Good experience overall.

I came by recently on a Monday night. It was pretty full, even for a slow night, but we did manage to get a table without a reservation. (I would definitely make one if youre planning to visit at a busier time!)What a gem of a spot — no cover, and the band was awesome. Cocktails were delicious and reasonably priced, service was attentive and friendly. They are cash only — make sure you come prepared so you can just kick back and enjoy the great music and vibes. :)

  • Review 3 (2024-12-14 - Rating: 5)

Simply wonderful! No cover, no drink minimum- just a bit of a line and cash only. This is such an intimate and cozy venue, and the staff is so kind and accommodating. If you go here, just try to be respectful and give your attention to the artists while theyre playing.Better for small groups of 2-3 as seating is limited, perfect spot for a date night.

  • Review 4 (2025-01-02 - Rating: 5)

Very cozy location, Music 🎶 was very good also the drinks.I knew in advance that they did not serve any food. They do have peanuts 🥜. ☺️

Arthur’s Tavern is hands down a hidden gem in the heart of Midtown! This contemporary jazz bar offers a unique and lively atmosphere that is perfect for a romantic date night. While its a cash-only establishment, the experience you get is absolutely worth it.One of the standout features of Arthur’s Tavern is their impressive cocktail menu. I highly recommend trying their French 75, a delightful mix of Empress 1908 Gin, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and topped with Prosecco. Its a refreshing and classy choice for those who enjoy a bit of effervescence in their drink. And lets not forget about the Sweet Georgia mule, made with Grey Goose White Peach and Rosemary Vodka, lime juice, simple syrup, and a zing of ginger beer. This cocktail is a perfect blend of sweet and tangy flavors that will surely tantalize your taste buds. So, if youre looking for a night of great music, delicious cocktails, and a cozy ambiance, Arthur’s Tavern is definitely the place to be! Its a spot where you can unwind, enjoy some fantastic drinks, and create unforgettable memories with your loved ones.

I was in this place when Danny Yonokuchi performed there. O, my god....it was unbelievable! Cheap alcohol and friendly bartenders added to the perfection of this place

  • Review 7 (2024-01-04 - Rating: 5)

I didn’t order any food here just got a drink. Moscow mule it was what a Moscow mule would take like. The atmosphere in here was great. It was a good night with great people and awesome live music.

A wonderful night of Jazz to cap off a celebration of 44 years of marriage. A bit of a line but it went fast to get us in. The music was phenomenal....the ambience was lively....thanks for a great night.

  • Review 9 (2023-10-09 - Rating: 5)

Everything about our evening at Arthurs Tavern was perfect. The atmosphere was cool but cosy, the staff were welcoming and helpful, the drinks were delicious. The music from the outstanding Creole Cookin Jazz Band will love in my memory forever. Thank you!

  • Review 10 (2024-09-07 - Rating: 5)

It’s advisable to make a reservation if you want to make sure you’ll find a seat. Besides, you might not have to stay in line outside, which will save you a precious time.Nice venue to enjoy live music. You can feel the echoes of the forties and fifties around you while drinking, let’s say, a Brooklyn Lager and allowing yourself to be carried away by the enchantment of a kind of music that makes you travel through that time lost in the haze of black and white movies.

  • Review 11 (2024-03-05 - Rating: 5)

One of my favorite venues in the city. Ive seen a variety of sets from ragtime to swing to jazz to soul, and every single one has been great. No cover, $15/person minimum at tables which is completely reasonable. Cash only, so come prepared or use the ATM in the basement (and bring some extra along to tip the band - no cover means they rely on tips). Really awesome staff - nice folks (with some hidden singing talents, too!). Drinks are pretty good, and the food is great (get the pretzel bites). I love the atmosphere and always have a great time listening to amazing music in a fun and intimate venue.

  • Review 12 (2024-05-21 - Rating: 5)

Arthurs Tavern is a hidden gem, the quintessential jazz and blues sanctuary. The moment you walk in, youre enveloped in an intimate, electric ambiance that sets the perfect tone for an unforgettable evening. The music is extraordinary, each performance a soulful journey that resonates deeply with every listener. The staff at Arthurs are nothing short of perfect. From the welcoming doorman to the friendly bartender, every member of the team offers warm and attentive service that makes you feel right at home. Antonios cocktails are divine, each one a handcrafted masterpiece that perfectly complements the vibrant atmosphere. This cozy and lively venue is a haven for music lovers, where every night feels like a special occasion. Arthurs Tavern is more than just a club—its an experience that lingers long after the final note.

  • Review 13 (2024-07-20 - Rating: 5)

Had a wonderful and jazzy time at Arthur’s Tavern! The service by Joan was fantastic (reservations are recommended because it fills up quickly by the 10pm show) and the music/atmosphere was electric!! An absolute great gem in the West Village. BEST JAZZ IN NYC!

  • Review 14 (2019-05-28 - Rating: 4)

Old-school jazz is what I was looking for and what I found here.Welcoming people, sincere alchemy between musicians, well lit stage, not too noisy, this was great.Minus 1 star for the waitress who is not for the faint-hearted. Grab onto your almost-empty glass because it WILL be taken away to make you order another one, because of the mandatory 2 drinks per person per set. Not surprised because there are very clear signs about it, this is a business so it is understandable. Smoothing the bluntness would be appreciated.Would still recommend it 100% though!

  • Review 15 (2023-08-23 - Rating: 5)

What a fantastic place. Great service, good prices and amazing jazz music. Those “boys” were incredible. The best evening in NY during our stay. Super recommended

  • Review 16 (2022-10-25 - Rating: 5)

What a great little spot to watch live music. Drink minimum, @ $15 per person to sit at a table, is super cheap for what you get. Bar staff was attentive and polite-kind of rare for a bar these days... Highly recommend!

  • Review 17 (2022-11-22 - Rating: 4)

Decided to check out Arthur’s Tavern after discovering Blue Note was price of ticket plus $20 minimum. It did not disappoint! Grove Street Stompers were performing as they do every Monday, and they were so talented and fun. It felt like I was transported to New Orleans, early 1900s!I ordered a sour whiskey - it was small, but tasted great. Tables are a minimum of $15 per person, and I’m unsure about minimum for bar seating. By the time the band started playing, the bar was almost full.I’m docking a star is because of unhygienic food handling. I saw what appeared to be the manager stick her bare, unwashed hands into the olive jar that was being used for drinks, to snack on some olives. Also, the bartender used his bare hands to put ice into the drink glasses and handed out drinks by touching the rims. Otherwise, this place rocks!

  • Review 18 (2022-10-10 - Rating: 4)

Cute intimate jazz spot! Stumbled in here while waiting for a table at Via Carota and the band was fantastic. The selection of alcohol was also quite good. Staff super friendly as well. Would recommend it!

  • Review 21 (2024-11-21 - Rating: 5)

Splendid place for jazz listeners. This is an iconic tavern in Manhattan’s history.

  • Review 22 (2019-06-30 - Rating: 5)

A very nice bar with live music. A warm welcoming, followed by an excellent service, with a lot of attention to details. Good work! Conclusion, if you have the opportunity to go eat there, do not hesitate! One of the best live jazz bars in NY!

  • Review 23 (2022-09-23 - Rating: 4)

I went there for the music since I love jazz.Their calander is full with performances, no coverage, cash only bar.Nice open space, street window seening people walking by.The bartender was super friendly.

  • Review 24 (2022-10-30 - Rating: 5)

If Blue Note and a tavern had a baby, this would be it. The jazz is lovely and the staff is on point. Cozy vibe - perf to stop in or stay a while.

  • Review 25 (2023-07-02 - Rating: 5)

This is just a fantastic place to listen to live music and have a drink. Shout out to our bartender Barry who took good care of us, and to my tocayo Cristian!

  • Review 26 (2024-07-21 - Rating: 5)

Great venue in West village for jazz. No cover, but they do have a 15$ minimum pp at tables. Cash only establishment; there is a ATM in basement. Overall great experience and lovely atmosphere.

  • Review 27 (2024-12-22 - Rating: 5)

We were in New York for one night only and I’m so glad we did our research and chose to come here, it made our trip! No cover charge, $15 (i.e. a drink) minimum spend each — more than fair given that all the other places we looked at charged $35 and up plus minimum spend on drinks.Wonderful vibes all round! Stage Revolution band were incredible, and service was great. Loved that each of the floor/bar staff were introduced and applauded too — well-deserved :)))

  • Review 28 (2024-01-01 - Rating: 5)

My favourite bar in NYC. We have been back twice. The cocktails are great, including Martini and Old Fashioned, plus some barmen specialties. Barmen are excellent. The music is fantastic and really unique space. We will back as soon as we can get another babysitter!

  • Review 29 (2024-01-03 - Rating: 5)

I went to this venue blindly and I absolutely loved it! I saw two groups performing and both were great!

  • Review 30 (2024-11-19 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 37 (2023-07-13 - Rating: 5)

Arthurs Tavern in Greenwich Village exceeded my expectations and provided a fantastic jazz bar experience. After a fortuitous stumble, my partner and I discovered this hidden gem when the neighboring restaurant had a long wait. The live jazz band welcomed us with their captivating music as we ordered drinks from the inviting counter bar, which I consider to be the best seats in the house. The bartender, Justin, showcased his skills by crafting impeccable drinks and offering valuable recommendations for nearby eateries. Kudos to Justin for his excellent service! The ambiance was truly delightful, with the combination of live jazz, dark wood panel walls, photographs of jazz legends adorning exposed brick walls, and the gentle spotlight illuminating the space. I am eager to return for another jazzy date night in Greenwich Village.

  • Review 38 (2018-04-15 - Rating: 4)

Cozy Jazz Bar near Christopher St with very good live jazz every day (?) - drinks are decent, nothing special but you go there for the music anyway!

  • Review 39 (2023-03-27 - Rating: 5)

This is a little hidden Jem and a must visit in NYC if you like live Jazz. We stumbled upon this place on 25 March after wondering the streets for fresh Italian. The place is small and drinks expensive as it is to be expected of NYC and it is a cash bar only. But the music was incredible!

  • Review 40 (2024-10-02 - Rating: 5)

Amazing jazz bar, great music and awesome atmosphere! The drinks are good too. Go there for a fun night out. On Tuesdays they have Latin Jazz and it was a great surprise!

  • Review 41 (2023-10-17 - Rating: 5)

What an unforgettable Monday Jazz night we had in New York! Great time! Nice service and jazz to die for!

  • Review 42 (2019-06-13 - Rating: 5)

Really chill bar with great music and Mike behind the bar is great as well! Dont expect fancy cocktails but theyll be tasty with just the right amount of booze 😉

  • Review 43 (2024-08-13 - Rating: 5)

Great atmosphere and music! CASH ONLY!! There’s an ATM somewhere inside. Tightly packed on a Thursday evening around 8:30. Only one person was serving tables, so very slow service, and even going up to the bar there was an over 10 min wait. Got the smoking revolver, which was awesome; the “smoke topper” was a nifty little wooden hat on my rocks glass that arrived fully smoldering and instantly made me feel like I was out in the woods around a campfire; it also made for a delicious drink :). I didn’t have any food so I can’t speak to that. Couple of excellent jazz bands played. I think you’re supposed to order $15 of food or drinks per person per set. One fancy cocktail is about $17 or $18.

  • Review 44 (2024-05-06 - Rating: 5)

Great atmosphere and staff. The gigs are always a lot of fun and the bartenders are friendly and professional

  • Review 45 (2024-04-23 - Rating: 5)

Had drinks while we waited for our table at Via Carota next door and I have to say, I tried Old Fashioneds at every restaurant and bar we visited during our trip and Arthurs had the best one by far!

  • Review 46 (2018-10-16 - Rating: 5)

The best description of the place is awesome but I realize the word and concept can be diluted but not in this case! If you have yet to visit this extraordinary treasure in the village, I strongly suggest you rectify this oversight! I went on a Monday night recently and enjoyed a Dixieland Jazz Band and an wonderful R&B/Jazz Band! I also was very lucky to visit when legendary jazz drummer Chuck McPherson graced the house with his presence and fabulous performance! This place rates five stars because it is a five star experience!

  • Review 47 (2023-12-23 - Rating: 5)

Saw the Johnny ONeal Trio last night. Very intimate setting and a really cool atmosphere to listen to some amazing jazz! Highly recommend! The drinks were outstanding-the smoking revolver may be my new favorite drink! Arthurs is on our must-do list any time we come to NYC now!

  • Review 48 (2024-08-20 - Rating: 4)

Good music and a nice place itself but something missing, maybe a better food options available could help here. Not so many good options on beers on tap too... And I need to say that being a cash only place never helps too (there is an ATM inside to support you, at least).

  • Review 49 (2018-10-31 - Rating: 5)

Excellent place to enjoy good live jazz. Tuesdays from 7 pm have a great quartet until 9:30. Beers are between 8 and $9. We went to Smalls club first but they charged $20 just for the entry. This place is free, just need to go, drink and enjoy the music. I finished my tour day here and I loved it !

  • Review 50 (2024-12-13 - Rating: 4)

Looks like a great place but we didn’t bring cash and for security purposes, didn’t bring an ATM card. Will try again a different time if we ever make it to NYC again.

  • Review 51 (2024-08-27 - Rating: 5)

A hidden gem in lower manhattan

  • Review 52 (2023-07-28 - Rating: 4)

Music was great but the drinks perhaps 7/10. Id just skip the cocktails and get something basic next time. 2 drinks = almost $60 including tax and tip

  • Review 53 (2024-09-19 - Rating: 5)

Came here to see the Grove Street Stompers and do not regret it!! The band was amazing, they had brilliant sense of humour in between their songs and taught us a bit about their history. The bar is quite small but cosy. Very romantic if you are going with your partner. A bit expensive as you need to pay $15 per set for one drink so be prepared for that, although it is free entry. They got my drink order wrong but it was very noisy so easy mistake to make.

  • Review 54 (2019-12-06 - Rating: 5)

I enjoy this place so much. The friendly atmosphere and service make me feel right at home and the music always gets me pumped up, even with it being jazz. Despite being a fairly famous bar, Arthurs manages to feel like a hidden gem only locals know about. I will keep coming back again and again! Two things to remember: theres a 2 drink minimum per person, per set, and its cash only (theres an ATM outside).

  • Review 55 (2019-09-04 - Rating: 4)

Amazing live music every day! Prices are typical for the area... so a bit pricy if you come restricted in budget ($9 beer, $14 cocktail). You have to get 2 drinks if you want to listen to the music but hey! you are getting drink+concert, so I wouldn’t complain. Service sadly is not the best. Hold your drink in your hand if you haven’t finished it, otherwise it will go away, and you will be forced to order another.Mondays at 7pm are the best, with a band of guys in their 70s and 80s who have been playing classic jazz together for decades.

  • Review 56 (2023-07-30 - Rating: 5)

It was 9 pm and we asked the bouncer to get in, he said the place is packed but we can stand in front of the bar. Which was perfect. The atmosphere was there, the jazz was good and we got seated soon after. Very cool spot.

  • Review 57 (2018-01-07 - Rating: 4)

Very fun jazz bar/dive bar. If that’s not what you’re looking for, you might want to look elsewhere. This place is very small so the servers have to be on top of seating and standing arrangements. 2 drink minimum, drinks are ok but nothing fancy, we came for the music anyway! Bands are excellent and very fun.

  • Review 58 (2023-04-20 - Rating: 5)

My favorite place to get a drink and see jazz in the city. Very low key. I try to get there around 6:15 or 6:30 to get choice on seating. Otherwise you might not be able to find a seat.

  • Review 59 (2023-08-08 - Rating: 5)

Excelente place !Alive music and No Cover!Really good!

  • Review 60 (2024-07-30 - Rating: 5)

Went here two evenings recently while visiting NYC. We had a great time. Im no jazz expert, but I like it when there seems to be a rhyme or reason to the music. We were lucky both evenings, great jazz and atmosphere. Theres two shows per evening, I think its 6:30 and 9:30. No cover charge, but you are expected to order a couple of drinks , which is easy to do. Cash only.

  • Review 61 (2023-03-22 - Rating: 5)

Very nice place, not expensive, excellent musicians and a Guinness

  • Review 62 (2023-10-17 - Rating: 5)

Amazing atmosphere, great music, exceptional environment, very cozy and close to the roots. Service is ok, which is good so it does not interfere with the experience

  • Review 63 (2019-12-27 - Rating: 4)

Love the liveliness of this live jazz bar. Small but cozy. Gets crowded, but the crowd is so lively and friendly, that you actually don’t mind standing. Every time I come to the Village, I make a point to stop by Arthur’s. Won’t leave without stopping by.🍹🍸🍻😉

  • Review 76 (2016-11-02 - Rating: 5)

This is a really wonderful, small, cash only, bar. There was a jazz band playing at a reasonable volume, something too rare find these days. Nothing special about the drinks, buy the atmosphere is on point.

  • Review 77 (2023-04-27 - Rating: 5)

Amazing music and such a fun and comfortable atmosphere inside. There was some dancing as well. The band played beautifully.

  • Review 78 (2017-09-09 - Rating: 4)

Great live jazz and other tunes. Crazy small so if you dont get a table can be pretty cramped. Often (always?) a two drink minimum although Im not sure how they actually enforce that..

  • Review 79 (2023-02-16 - Rating: 5)

We had a great time listening to the Stompers on Monday night with our 2 teenage kids. Fantastic music, great drinks, charming bartender, and did I mention the fantastic music?

  • Review 80 (2014-05-15 - Rating: 5)

So. Freakin. Awesome... On our trip to NYC, we went twice to this place. Its cash only, theres no food... but the music was absolutely amazing. We had the pleasure of seeing Yuri Yamamoto Jazz Trio on our first night and then House Rockin Blues on our second. Both were awesome in their own ways... it doesnt really feel like we went twice to the same place, but more like we went to two different places. The place is as you see it... and Im thankful for that

  • Review 81 (2020-01-03 - Rating: 5)

WOWThis is definitely the place to have some drinks in NYC. This performer will make you move.Great live music, Jazz but not limited to it - and it’s for free. Had a great time there and I would come back without a thought.Thank you Bobby Harden, E. J. Sharpe, Stew Cutler & friends - that was amazing performance.

  • Review 82 (2023-08-01 - Rating: 5)

A Manhattan must-see! Live jazz in a VERY cozy space. Front of house manager was determined to get us comfortable and taken care of. Had to play musical chairs a bit- but eventually had stage-front view and made the experience so memorable. Would avoid sitting in the back in a chair. Impossible to see anything but the back of someone’s head.

  • Review 83 (2023-11-05 - Rating: 5)

What a great find. Happened to be some live jazz on which was great. Sat at the bar and had a couple of very good old fashioneds. Loved it, great vibes

  • Review 84 (2018-10-10 - Rating: 4)

I loved it in the very first visit. From then I keep on going there very frequently specially for music. Total fun. Its a small cash only bar but you have an ATM outside the bar. I recommend people going there.

  • Review 85 (2023-12-08 - Rating: 5)

A complete surprise. A friend recommended us to go, and we repeated twice.

  • Review 86 (2016-02-20 - Rating: 4)

Drinks are way overpriced for what is essentially a dive bar, but a great, classic, NY pub. If youre a fun, upbeat, regular person who enjoys the old NY feel, this place is for you especially on free jazz nights (Monday). If youre a high maintenance Manhattanite who expects first class service and a staff that serves coming from a place of awe and fear wherever you go, youre going to be disappointed!!! LOL

  • Review 87 (2018-10-09 - Rating: 4)

  • Review 88 (2018-04-17 - Rating: 4)

Its a lil icky.....but a cool dive bar if you are into that! Drinks are a little overpriced, and the soda guns give watery mixers. The live music was a BIG hit for me! (Otherwise they would have two stars)

Re-opened and under new ownership, Arthur’s Tavern is better than ever!Ya might want to complain that the dive bar formerly known as Arthur’s Tavern is gone (you miss the dusty decorations, hitting your head when you sat down along the wall, going into the creepy leaky bathroom…)… but once you go, you’ll be incredibly surprised that the spruced up jazz room now known as Arthur’s Tavern is alive, comfortable, clean and friendly(!!) and probably closer to the 1937 version of the original Arthur’s Tavern!!The regular Sunday night band (every Sunday since the 1980’s) The Creole Cookin’ Jazz band is back (7p-10p)!The Monday night band, The Grove Street Stompers (playing every Monday since the ‘60-‘70’s!) are also back, 7p-10p!I spent a lot of time in the pre-pandemic Arthur’s (my trombone-playing dad-in-law has played in the Sunday night band since the 80’s!) and being there last night (Sunday 5/1/22) for the first time since the re-opening (April 29, 2022) I can tell you, there’s nothing I miss of the old Arthur’s.The new owners did a magnificent job of renovation/restoration. If you do miss the old Arthur’s, check out the photos, on the new walls, of the old dive.Dixieland Trad Jazz is here!

  • Review 96 (2014-01-01 - Rating: 4)

Nice place for drinks. Live music is fun and our experience with the staff was OK. The drinks were good enough, the fact that they only accept cash is a bit inconvenient though.

  • Review 97 (2022-11-27 - Rating: 5)

Wonderful live music, exquisite atmosphere and good drinks. All in all a great place for an evening after dinner.

  • Review 98 (2023-04-18 - Rating: 5)

Some of the charm was lost with the post-COVID renovation but the music is still great and the acoustics are better than before. One of the best places for live music in NYC. Great drinks, too.

  • Review 105 (2024-05-15 - Rating: 4)

This is a chill tavern that I visited with some friends as part of a pub crawl right when they opened up. There is a long bar with a jazz stage at the end. We had a great chat with the bartender, as there wasnt any music at the time, and the drinks are great.

  • Review 106 (2022-12-03 - Rating: 5)

Great! No cover on a Friday at 8:50pm and the musicians were amazing!

  • Review 108 (2017-08-19 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 120 (2024-05-03 - Rating: 4)

Came to see Johnny O Neal. The staff and drinks were pleasant but the guests at the bar were so noisy that even Johnny had to shhh them a few times. I wish the staff would help control the rude guests more. Very hard to enjoy the performance if you’re in the back..

  • Review 121 (2023-09-04 - Rating: 4)

    Genuine Jazz bar. Historical

  • Review 158 (2016-07-04 - Rating: 5)

My favorite jazz bar in the city; I love sweet Georgia Brown!

  • Review 159 (2023-04-10 - Rating: 4)

Unique experience being so intimate with the performance. They play about an hour at a time and then theres about an hour break to chat and get more drinks. Its great that you can book unlike other jazz places nearby. I really enjoyed my evening, the musicians are so talented. I came about 10pm on a Sunday and it was still busy but no queues.
