The charcuterie tray was one of a kind. My items made by the chef. Octopus was made to perfection. Coq au vin was also very good and a modernized version very nice flavors. Desert was different cheesecake diplomat was very good -

Amazing food, well presented and plenty of options at the decent prices. Ample indoor and outdoor seating and they have a good wine collection. Would recommend. We loved the chicken liver mousse (amazing flavor and it paired really well with the berry jam), the rainbow trout and the passion fruit cheesecake . The Frenchie burger, hazelnut ice cream, raspberry sorbet and winter salad were decent. -
Review 3 (2022-10-31 - Rating: 5)
The food and service was excellent. We got a small charcuterie board to share that was perfect for a group of 4. We loved our server and we thought the the wine special was great as well. Our dishes were delicious and the deserts at the end were all light and tasty. The sorbet and gelatos were so refreshing and addictive. You must try their raspberry and rose sorbet. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very relaxing and a great place for a lovely dinner. Will definitely be back! -

Highly recommended upper Westside pre-opera stopover from across The Met by nearby Lincoln Square. A truly great atmosphere, with its coveted 5-star cuisine, wait staff, and ambiant spirits and drinks menu. Convenient for large groups or parties, to soloists or couples with either indoor or terrace table side dining. Privacy guaranteed and with incredible options on many levels. A New York Times must for any occasion while taking in the Best of Manhattan. -

The quality of the food served at Bar Boulud has not changed a bit over the years. It is simply exquisite. I highly recommend the escargots and the trout dish. Also, I like the semi-privacy of the outdoor space.REVIEW FROM 2 YEARS AGO: exquisite food: fresh and flavorful. Excellent service. -
Review 6 (2022-09-18 - Rating: 4)
We had restaurant week and special set.Deal was good, but the pate was a little bit too dry. Most of the dishes are above average, dessert was okay. Accidentally we get a extra one because they gave the wrong one. -
Review 7 (2024-08-21 - Rating: 4)
This place gives off upscale upper west side vibes and is conveniently located near Lincoln Center, which I think it’s a better choice than like PJ Clark’s if you’re looking for an upscale high-quality food establishment. I have the restaurant weak dish, but whatever dish you get, they do a good version of it intensely. For instance, I essentially had the equivalent of a pork pate that was very rich, but it went home with me and was delicious when I did have it with some great bread that it came with. The staff are very attentive and the service itself justifies the price tag with the food. -

Came here for my mom’s birthday after a show at Lincoln Center. Great location and friendly staff. If you like wine, enjoy the sommelier’s daily general pour - a treat to see what is picked for the day. The French Onion soup was delightful. Portions were perfect. Highly recommend the chocolate crème brûlée for dessert if available! -
Review 9 (2019-04-15 - Rating: 5)
Bar Boulud is the perfect spot for dinner before heading just across the way to the Metropolitan Opera House for a show. The menu will force some difficult choices as everything sounds delicious on the page, but you cant go wrong because each dish lives up to expectations. Highly recommend the beef tartar and the almond tarte if you have room for dessert. Come hungry because this rustic French fare is quite hearty and filling! -
Review 10 (2024-11-19 - Rating: 5)
Welcoming atmosphere, great service. Best French Onion Soup. On a chilly night it hit the spot. All was really good - I’ll be back! -
Review 11 (2018-08-13 - Rating: 5)
The short version, solid food, great service and average price. For a restaurant of this type, which is fine dining, its not the top of the top but you do get food that you have nothing to complain about. As for their service, I think they did a good job of being attentive without being intrusive. -
Review 12 (2024-12-05 - Rating: 5)
Dinner out with my amazing twin daughters … everything was perfect. Escargot, pescado a la plancha (in Spanish as don’t recall the French… but who cares what it’s called anyway), prime pork chop … this most amazing cuisine and impeccable service. The desert was indescribable - a frozen grapefruit loaded with tasty gelato and capped with a thin layer of halavah … breathtaking! -
Review 13 (2018-05-22 - Rating: 4)
Walking into this atmosphere, it comes off as very calm and elegant. Food is the best we had in a very long time and they have great wine selections. The only reason we gave this a 4 star review because some of their servers rush your stay. Asking if we finished our plate several times in about a 4-6 minute period is unnecessary. With that being said, waiters were very nice. -
Review 14 (2019-08-09 - Rating: 5)
Great spot for a glass of Rose and appetizers. Tomatoes and burrata were a perfect summer evening dish. Good oysters. Crab and avocado toast was delish too -

I love Bar Boulud. I go there whenever I attend Lincoln Center concerts by the NY Philharmonic and also the NYC Ballet. There is outdoor seating and indoor seating with a great bar and food. I had the French Onion Soup with Balsamic Brussel Sprouts. The Gateau Aux Mures – Devils Food Cake, Blackberry Mousse, and Red Wine Chantilly. One of their Signature Cocktails – La Poire Rouge – Trimbach Poire Williams, Lemon, Pomegranate, Ginger. A beautiful interior tastefully decorated, great atmosphere and excellent staff. One of my favorite eateries in NYC. -

Nice brunch food. Staff were friendly and polite. The prices are a bit high but it’s worth it. -
Review 17 (2020-06-27 - Rating: 5)
Absolutely fantastic food and service! First meal post lockdown and it was a winner 🏆 and then some. Portions were great, probably didnt need dessert but we went with it anyway and were happy we did. There are partitions between most tables and plenty of space, the staff did a great job cleaning after each group of guests. -

You can have a nice quick meal before a show. You cant get out the door under $50. Nice wine list. Good service. Id return. -

What an experience!! We had such an amazing dinner at Bar Boulud. We started with a bottle of Bordeaux Blen from, Galilee, Israel; it was exceptional. For the starters, I tried the mushroom soup. The black truffle crème fraîche and chives really made this one of the best mushroom soup I ever had:-)For the main course, I had to try their award winning truffle burger. It was such a flavor blast in my mouth. A truly juicy, flavorful, delectable burger. For the dessert, I asked for a recommendation and our server suggested I try lingot chocolat noisette. His recommendation was a perfect way to end such an awesome dinner. Every bite of the dessert was a chocolately treat that everyone should try. -

Review 24 (2020-02-04 - Rating: 5)
Amazing restaurant week meal! Absolutely exceptional mushroom soup, cassoulet, and gâteau basque! Lots of other great options, but those were the best that we had. Also excellent wine options. And an attentive and professional server! Really lovely time. -

Cool place! Pleasant staff. Eclectic menu. We felt welcome there. Drinks are pricey but atmosphere and service are great. We will definitely come back for dinner -
Review 26 (2021-08-26 - Rating: 5)
Bravo Chef!! Pasta was one of the best we’ve ever had. Trout almodine top fish. Steak - is it wet aged?? Awesome texture. And we’d eat the chocolate carame dessert all the time. -
Review 27 (2024-08-18 - Rating: 5)
I ate here on a Sunday evening. Dined outside on the terrace. I utilized their 3 course prix-fixe menu. The food quality was very good, the presentation was very nice, and the food was good to me. I loved the melon-burrata salad. Very tasty! Service was excellent, attentive, but not obtrusive. The female sommelier was very on point. -
Review 28 (2024-12-17 - Rating: 5)
My boyfriend and I recently visited Bar Boulud and had the pleasure of being served by Johnathan. From the moment we walked in, Johnathan was not only friendly and welcoming but also offered great drink recommendations and made sure we felt taken care of throughout the afternoon. It’s rare to experience such personalized service, and I truly appreciated the attention to detail. The vibe of the bar was also fantastic—relaxed, yet energetic, with a great and cozy atmosphere. We will definitely be coming back and highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a top-notch experience! Ask for Johnathan you will not regret it! -
Review 29 (2019-07-28 - Rating: 5)
During Restaurant Week 2019, this duck confit is not even on the RW menu. Maybe its a temporary special, but I am glad I tried it when told by our server. The saltiness in the duck is well balanced by the mixed bean soup underneath. I love those beans!Just in case you are wondering what those porks are at the top right corner of my photo, those were sample slices of pork loin and pork belly from my wife. They are fantastic too. After I came back from bathroom between dishes, my napkin was folded and ready on the table. I know this is likely part of wait staff training at this place, but I do value this as a high level of courtesy and hospitality of the restaurant. -
Review 30 (2024-01-25 - Rating: 5)
My wife and I went to Bar Bouloud for the first-time during New York restaurant week. We had a lovely dinner. Pâté for starters, she had the coq au vin and I had the trout. For dessert I had mango profiteroles and she had crème Basque. Overall we had a fantastic time, and the food was delicious. The fish was something else, came with crispy mushrooms and it was fresh, tender, and perfectly prepared, really respecting and enhancing the trout itself 10/10. My wife loved the chicken also, very tasty - to note, the portions were more generous that we expected from a French restaurant, ended up being quite a meal. The desserts were also great, the pastry in the profiteroles was crispy and light, the mango cream cut the sweetness and made it a wonderful thing to finish the dinner with. Beautiful! The atmosphere at the place was relaxed and relatively quiet, which I prefer. We think what made the whole thing a wonderful evening was the staff and the service they provided. Sometimes you go to a nice restaurant during restaurant week and you are treated differently, like they are quietly making the point that you do not truly belong there. It has happened to us in other places when we do NYC restaurant week. This was not the case, the staff were amazingly warm, polite, and helpful. They treated us lovingly and were on top of every detail. We were celebrating an occasion, and they came with a nice surprise from the kitchen. They were also genuinely friendly and helpful. They did such a wonderful job that we both commented that we would definitely come again during regular season. Very much recommended. -

To even begin to describe the level of culinary sophistication and craftsmanship that goes on in this kitchen is no easy task. Chef Daniel Boulud keeps a watchful eye over his culinary empire, and Bar Boulud is no exception. The food is just as delicious as it was 16 years ago when he opened his first location in Manhattan. I’ve been coming here ever since and I am impressed every time. There are a handful of restaurants in NYC that truly capture the creativity and quality of a French fine dining experience, and this is one of them. Everything is reasonably priced and delicious. Whether you have a Boudin Blanc sausage or the Black Sea bass, you will not be disappointed. The fish I paired with a glass of Riesling and a pate to start. And the scoop of lemon ice cream served between courses was sublime. -
Review 32 (2019-05-05 - Rating: 5)
What an amazing dinning experience! I had the special which was the double Sole perfectly prepared. I started with the white asparagus soup also very good. -
Review 33 (2024-05-12 - Rating: 4)
We made an unexpected visit to Bar Bolud who were immediately able to accommodate our party of three; lucky us! I thought that the location, space and service were great and I found the food tasty. I particularly enjoyed my Parisian Love cocktail. All the wait staff were excellent. I would recommend it. -
Review 34 (2023-08-05 - Rating: 4)
We came here for the summer Restaurant Week for a birthday lunch, which I suspect is a slightly smaller portion than normal because I did feel a little hungry afterward. Everything was good though:- Pate was rich (wish I had more!) and complemented nicely by a well-dressed, albeit small, salad- escargots were good in the rich buttery sauce and came with good, crusty bread- trout was cooked perfectly- the Frenchie burger came out medium as asked but there was too much going on (strong cheese, saucy pork belly) and I wish I could taste the beef more; the fries were great thoughI liked the restaurants light and airy atmosphere and it was pretty empty on a weekday. If Im in the area for a concert Ill definitely stop by again. -

Review 36 (2024-04-16 - Rating: 5)
Went here “by accident” a few months ago and have been coming back on purpose ever since. The atmosphere and the food are amazing. The Frenchie burger is my all time favorite burger. If going for brunch on Sunday, make reservations first. -

Review 38 (2022-10-02 - Rating: 5)
We were a party of 8 having dinner before Opera at the Met. The staff went above and beyond to make our experience special and seamless. The price fixed dinners were an excellent option and with a delicious cappuccino we all enjoyed our meal. The hanger steak was perfectly cooked, the escargot delicious, the trout outstanding. Don’t miss dessert! We tried them all and enjoyed them. Also, the coffee is excellent. Thank you Karmela for patiently taking care of us. Will definitely return. -

Review 43 (2023-10-04 - Rating: 5)
This is one of our go to spots in the neighborhood for a quick date night. Daniel Bolud is a genius and this is one of the better French wine by the glass menus on the UWS. We love to split escargot and the frenchie burger, accompanied by a full bodied red or a glass of whatever large format theyve opened for the day (a real treat!). The aesthetic is a little modern for my taste and the crowd can lean blue haired but the food is outstanding and sitting on their patio across from Lincoln Center on a nice day is a great slice of New York. -
Review 44 (2019-04-24 - Rating: 4)
Great food and good service! Had late dinner after catching a show at Lincoln Center. -
Review 45 (2023-04-28 - Rating: 5)
How does it get better for pre-opera than Bar Boulud? The location is perfect, across the avenue from Lincoln ctr and easy safe walk from Columbus circle as well. The food is delicious, quick to the table, and price pre-covid, with casual yet modern ambience. My favorite is the snail appetizer ! This is a great spot for the second date! -
Review 46 (2023-09-30 - Rating: 5)
A great spot for both locals and tourists combined. The food is excellent, and the service is impeccable! Additionally, the restaurant manager whom always wears his blazar always goes above and beyond to make guests feel welcomed! -
Review 47 (2023-07-29 - Rating: 5)
Really enjoyed a meal with friends at Bar Boulud. The food was great and the portion size was decent too. Massive fan of French food and it has to be some of the best in the Upper West Side. In addition to the great food the service is excellent and the atmosphere is relaxed and doesn’t feel too fancy. The highlights were the trout, Chocolate Cremeux and almond cake (Geteau Basque). I had the steak tartare for starter but I’ve had much better elsewhere - it was sauce heavy which I didn’t enjoy. Still give Bar Boulud five stars for exceptional mains, dessert and ambience. It’s also in a great location too. -
Review 48 (2023-08-06 - Rating: 5)
We came for dinner during restaurant week and had a fabulous time. Service was nice and food was excellent. I started with the beef tartare and it’s was exceptional. The burger topped with confit pork belly was indulgent and very tasty. They also had a great deal on a bottle of wine for $40 - I was a bit apprehensive as to the quality one would get for that price but it was surprisingly not bad! All in all a nice evening. -
Review 49 (2023-03-01 - Rating: 4)
Unfortunately this place is slightly better than average. Definitely caterers to the show crowd so youll see it slammed and then dead. Had the cheese board appetizer and French Burger and both left me less than impressed. Wish I could do 3.5 stars. -
Review 50 (2022-08-16 - Rating: 5)
Wonderful place. Service is impeccable and the food is simply amazing. I always like coming to Bar Boulud for brunch and have had nearly everything on the menu. The goat cheese omelette always delivers and I highly recommend it. Also dont miss ordering their Bloody Mary; they do it perfectly. Be warned its a little spicy 🔥 -

Review 54 (2023-12-27 - Rating: 5)
At first you feel like you are walking into a wine barrel, but once inside the flowers and light airy colors are welcoming. We enjoyed every single dish ordered which included exquisite oysters, flavorful steak tartare, superb soups with French Onion and Vegan pumpkin, a scrumptious lamb pasta, and yankee burger with side of brussels. Wine and drinks were made well also. Service was good. Will definitely return when going to a show at Lincoln Center. -

Review 59 (2022-07-12 - Rating: 5)
Great food and staff. They have a lunch pre-fix option for the weekend (cant recall if offered during the week as well) that will fill you up. I expected the portion to be small, but they give you a great amount of food for a great deal (I believe 43 for the app and main course with 8 dollars more if you wanted dessert). Highly recommend if you are in the area. -

Our reviews had over 34 million views so far this year. We do not get paid we just love to eat and have fun. We really love Bar Boulud. So Tasty!!! wow Awesome place across from Lincoln Center. Food was fantastic. I had the steak and it was very good. She had the hamburger and loved it. The fries were hot, firm, thin and very tasty. We had the steak tartare which is every bit as good as the chefs fancier joints. I had the charred Octopus which was beyond amazing. I am not an Octopus eater normally but I had heard it was so good I decided to try it and I am glad I did. Desserts were great too. First class all the way. Great vibe too. Check out all of our reviews. If we do not like it we do no review it so all of the ones you see are places that are fantastic. Follow us if you like. Review 68 (2019-07-02 - Rating: 5)
Excellent food, prices a bit lower than for comparable food, but ambience also a bit lower. If you want really good food in a casual place where youll spend a good deal but not a fortune, this is the place. (It shares a kitchen, though not a menu, with the fancier and more expensive Boulud Sud next door.) Warning: The restrooms, also shared with Boulud Sud, are down a long flight of stairs. -

Delicious food, knowledgeable courteous service, desserts to die for and located just across from Lincoln Center-a perfect place to have your pre-concert meal. Our wine was superb and most choices on the menu were typical authentic French dishes. A bit pricey and crowded, but friendly and lively. Our party of four really enjoyed it. -

Slightly Marginal affordability is the only problem here. Extremely convenient to Lincoln Center events. Service is friendly and professional.Baguette good. Butter very good. Pretty authentic Lyonnaise dishes. Boudin Blanc excellent. Frites very good, and the aoli is exceptional. The cost-free “tap water” is also very good, and that is unusual. -

Absolutely delightful. We had a booth in the rear of the restaurant, were not rushed, service was attentive throughout, ordered the cheapest wine on the menu yet were treated with complete respect by the sommelier. Be aware that wines by the glass are distinctly pricey. -

My daughter and I went to Bar Boulud to celebrate the New Year with a four course pre-fixed dinner. Weve been to BB before and always found it to be a great place for dinner. The evening did not disappoint. The staff was very friendly and attentive (a special thank you to our server Eilish D and the restaurant manager and the sommelier who stopped by to check on us and wish us a Happy New Year.). The fluke mille-feuille was a nice start. We both chose the black truffle beef tartare with hazelnuts. To be honest this was our least favorite dish of the evening. The beef lacked flavor and was overwhelmed by the hazelnuts. This was followed by the wonderful duck lasagna. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the duck was front and center. The main course for me was the black sea bass with pistachio, blood orange and sunchokes. The fish was wonderfully tender and I enjoyed it thoroughly. My daughter had the beef duo, consisting of a beef tenderloin, red wine braised short rib, with a chestnut puree and celery root. My daughter raved about the dish and after taking a bite of both, the short rib and tenderloin, I have to agree. The main course was so good we forgot to take a picture of the dishes. We finished the meal with a brie de meaux (cheese course) and a guanaja chocolate tart. Both were great choices. The brie was laced with black truffle and accompanied by candied pecans and apple sauce. Rich and creamy, the cheese was amazing. The chocolate tart was paired by the tart and fragrant raspberry sorbet which cut through the super chocolaty tart. We had a wonderful time! We will be back. -

Good food, quick service, nice wines. Just kind of straightforward, no wow effect. Except with the sweet potato chunks, absolutely delicious! Thank you! -
Review 77 (2019-01-22 - Rating: 5)
Wonderful Lincoln center restaurant! They have astronomical costs starting with rent, well trained waitstaff navigating busily through the one major space. This is not a large bar/restaurant but a beautiful one that calls out to be photographed. Expect to spend a lot, and to be occasionally somewhat disappointed with the service, but almost never with the food. It quiets down after the theater curtains go up. When the crowds leave, the service improves a notch and leaves little room for improvement. -

Bar Boulud is a pleasant enough of a joint to have lunch at. Came here with a friend for nyc restaurant week for lunch. Service was great, staff is pleasant and service with a smile. The adequate, pleasant and fresh. The French Onion Soup was a bit salty said my friend. Was going to have a table outside, but it was too too hot out there on the sidewalk. Otherwise, great location for sitting down and enjoy the breeze and watch the as the world go by.NYC 2024 Summer heatwave still have a grip on the Big Apple as of Aug. 16th. Enjoy summer 24. Be well. -

Smile below captures my entire dining experience - some places, every dollar is worth it. Heard a lot about this place and glad I finally got to dip in and try it.Had the tartare, a beaujolais and finished it off with a nice cup of coffee - highly recommended! -

Very classy but also relax restaurant. it is perfect for a a delicious bite. if you love sea food this place have amazing oysters and mussels. The tarters are exquisite if you do not like seafood. They have a huge wine and cocktails selection. The waitress was super nice explaining all the dishes to my friends and adding or taking away some food combinations. the music sound level is great to have conversations, so i would recommended it for dinner with friends! -

Overall experience was very good, my brother and I had the prix fix, 3 course option. He had the cod loin and I had the coq au vine for main course. Cod was great, the chicken was good but slightly over done. We had the mushroom soup and steak tare tare for apps and both were excellent. What was fun here is that the restaurant opens a very large format high end wine and serves it by the glass. We had a 2014 Gevrey-Chambertin Burgandy from a Balthazar (12 liter bottle). It was of course delicious! We enjoyed our experience and would go back. -

🔥🔥🔥One of Best spots in the city. Def best in west side.A limited, perfectly thoughtful menu that changes almost daily. Seasonal delights that never disappoint and staples that make me return as often as my wallet permits. This is THE French bar to go to. The wine list is EXCEPTIONAL and the sommelier always nails it.I recently committed to trying everything on their menu. Best. Challenge. Ever.Favorites: Burger (insert chef kiss), beef tartar, Salade Nicoise, steak frites. Gateau Basque with a glass of Sancerre is nothing short of heaven.Service is top-notch. Menu is perfect.Recommend everyone to try this place at least once. 😍 -

Wow! I cannot say enough wonderful things about this place! The service was fantastic, the food was delicious, and the location is so conveniently placed across from Carnegie Hall. My significant other took me me here for my birthday, and I will never be able to forget this meal - absolutely stunning from top to bottom! -

Service is impeccable and food is delicious. They still have the $60 pre-theater prix fixe which is a great deal. Appetizer changes but trout almandine and chicken tagine are always great and grapefruit givre is the -effect summer dessert. One of my favorites in New York. -

I came here on Saturday night with my brother after soending the afternoon exploring the city. Reserved before hand on Resy. Beyond the food something I always look out for when at a restaurant is the staff. They were very nice and attentive from the beginning to end which was great! The food was delectable! For the main course, I had the frenchie burger. It was so rich in flavor, every bite was wonderful. My brother had the steak-frites and he enjoyed it as well, very juicy and cooked to perfectly to his liking. For dessert, I had the lingot chocolat noisette, one word...impecable. I don’t say this lightly, I am not much of a chocolate or heavy sweets person but this was everything. The sweetness was well balanced and not overbearing. We were also given an extra complimentary dessert which I didn’t catch the name of when the mwaiter brought it over but it was delicious as well! I would rate higher if I could, one of the best restaurant experiences I’ve had. Will be back! -

A good place to enjoy a fine-dining experience. Avail the benefits of the New York Restaurants Week, whereupon you get to select from a pre-set fixed menu, a three course meal with a wine. Of course, if you wish (and can afford it) go for your own selections! A major attraction of this place is the bar, well stocked with vintage wines and all other spirits. -

Always quality food from Mister Boulud. Great addition to this location for high quality eats. Excellent service. Would suggest to friend and also good for tourist. Salmon was out of this world. Love the decor and the open feel, I will be going back. -

Teriffic French fare. The pates and charcuterie were amazing. Everything on the is great all around. Drinks are top notch. The place is quite pricy but worth it if you can afford it. Make a reservation in advance as they are pretty busy. A block away from Central Park if you wish to take a stroll after dinner. -

First time dining at Bar Boulud and it exceeded expectations! I knew the food would be delicious, but what really impressed me was the attentive service. Every team member I encountered was polite, professional, and helpful. We came for brunch, but will be back soon to experience the dinner service. -

Review 101 (2020-02-16 - Rating: 5)
Bar Boulud never disappoints. Apps (pate especially good) and entrees are mainly original twists on traditional bistro cuisine. Front of the house deserves 5 stars. They once held our table for an hour (NJ transit strikes again). It goes without saying that the location is prime for Lincoln Center performances. -
Review 102 (2019-02-14 - Rating: 5)
Right across from Lincoln Center. Indoor/outdoor seating. Excellent service and food. Patient, they don’t rush you. Unless you’re pre-theatre, and then they’ll time it perfectly. I’ve been there on a date, for my birthday, pre-concert etc. It’s the perfect place if you want something comfortable but not too casual. I also appreciate how they extend the outdoor seating area with large umbrellas (which I’ve sat under while it poured down, they just moved them closer to each other so there were no drips on the occupied tables. Loved it.) and heat lamps. Highly recommend! And always get the madeleines, always. -

Review 105 (2015-01-15 - Rating: 4)
I came to Bar Boulud for a pretty happy occasion - a friends engagement party! We were ushered into the private Sommelier room, a nice space that seated about 20-22 people. The service was definitely commendable - it was quick, attentive and friendly as well. The waiter came by with drinks and refills consistently and even volunteered to take photos with at least 4 cameras that our photo-happy group offered. The food choices were simply superb. The hors doeurves were great, and kept coming around for nearly 20 minutes before the meal. For the individual meals, I started with the Salade de Crabe, a light but delicious Maine crab salad. Next up was the Boudin Blanc, a truffled white sausage served with mashed potatoes and apple garnish. I never thought sausages could be light and fluffy but they were! The meal was topped off with a tasty grapefruit-banana compote, which was similar to a yogurty-mousse. I have to say that dessert was my favorite part of the meal, and Im not even a dessert person. To be entirely truthful, the only reason I was hesitant in giving Bar Boulud five stars was because its tough to review based on an event experience, rather than a personal one. -
Review 106 (2014-08-07 - Rating: 4)
Daniel Boulus never disappoints! This Upper West Side spot is great for a sophisticated yet comforting lunch with a friend. We dined during restaurant week and greatly enjoyed our three course meal. The star of the show was definitely the grilled fish with caponata - it was fresh, crunchy, smooth, sweet, tangy, and salty. I cant wait to go back and try the more classic french bistro fair! -
Review 107 (2021-06-24 - Rating: 5)
Incredible food, atmosphere and service. For dinner, order the 3 course menu where you can choose an appetizer, entrée, and dessert. Seemingly, you cannot go wrong with anything on the menu and the wait staff will ensure you order what you are looking for as long as you ask. -

Finding a good French bistro at a reasonable price in New York City, as one who has lived here for 28 years, is almost impossible. It may sound immodest, but I can cook far better that 95% of the French bistros in NYC and I am not a trained chef. Fortunately, Bar Boulud offers French fare that is as close to the quality as you might find in France as any place I have found in the city. The bread is fantastic, the cheese choices incredible as with the charcuterie, the Foie Gras, the Boeuf Bourguignon tastes homemade like my French mother makes it, the Salad Nicoise is as good as one can get in Nice, the french fries light and impossible to stop eating when ordered as one of many fine sides, the wine list and wine by the glass excellent, the desserts all delicious (including the awesome fresh, warm Madeleines), etc.The location opposite Lincoln Center great if you have just seen a great classical music, ballet, or opera, and the service has always been great.Indoors is very, very pleasant and clean and not too loud and the outdoor seating is comfortable and not cramped like most restaurants in New York in the summer.Best of all, the great chef Mr. Boulud, who runs many places--including his fantastic restaurant uptown--has not allowed the quality of the food to go down over time, as most places do in the city. He does not disrespect his patrons or feels they may not know what they are eating. In sum, Bravo! But I hope word does not get out to broadly and I am contributing! -

The food was tasty. The place was busy and is definitely not off the beaten track -- its right in front of Metropolitan Opera. As such, it commands higher prices. The service was good. Overall a nice place. -

We were here with a friend today for lunch, and had a 1230 reservation but were in the area an hour earlier at 1130 and they accomodated us. Besides the gentleman at the front who brought us to our table (who wasnt at all very friendly), we had a wonderful meal there. The waiter was so nice and genuine and helped us pick an amazing bottle of Sancerre. We had the beets & burrata appetizer and loved it. We then each had the 2 course restaurant week menu. Mushroom soup all around and was great. Two of us ordered the Burger with pork belly (Amazing and cooked perfect), and one ordered the Loup de mer (a sea bass) which also was great. They surprised us with a dessert at the end.....also wonderful. We thought portions were spot on.We sat in the back at one of the booths and was very comfortable and relaxed, enjoyed our meal and didnt feel rushed in any way. Just a great experience! -

I must have done something right in my past life to have the good fortune of residing only blocks away from this masterpiece of a deli. Even on a rainy day like today, I coulda swore the sun was shining down on me as I bit into a world of deliciousness..The quality of meats and cheeses here are nothing short of top-notch. It seems like every sandwich they make has the perfect combination of flavors. On top of that, the service here is so amazing, youd think they were family. So much so, that I make it a habit of sampling their spicy sopressata and ever so fresh mozzarella as I wait on them to prepare my pick of the day. Christine even put out freshly made chicken francese samples today! It seems the only problem with this place is the dificulty of having to choose what to commit to!Besides their famously names sandwiches, theres a plethora of premade pasta - so much that I think I can easily get through a weeks worth of dinner with plenty of variety to spare. Btw, as if they needed anymore fanfare, but they just recently made best deli in queens in the daily news last week (3/16)..Need I say more?? I could keep going on.. but Im actually headed back for some more italian lovin before they close for the day.. Salute! -

I arrived early so I asked the hostess if there are any seats at the bar to have a beer while waiting for my friends. The “bar” was more of a communal table with bar stools. When my friends arrived, a server took my beer and coat to the table for me. Very attentive staff 👏Great food, great beer and wine selection (the way to the restroom goes through the wine cellar, whaaaaaaat? Great restaurant. -

Good food, though at an expensive price. A great place to go if you have an opera or philharmonic event, just let them know what time you have to be out by. Only real complaint is that the chairs are: a) Not that comfortable, B) loud to move, whether youre drawing one back before you sit or if youre scooting into the table. -
Review 124 (2013-07-22 - Rating: 4)
Its never a bad day when youre dining at a Daniel Boulud restaurant – and this one is def. on the more affordable side. Bar Boulud has a really bistro-esque feel, a place you feel you can walk into off the street and be seated in reasonable time. Theres a cool back table reserved for tastings and group events, but any table is good. The walls have a really cool texture to them too, with rocks held back with metal cage-like tiles. Im a big fan of the mussels here, as well as the bistro sandwiches. Another great spot for mid-day lunch on UWS or even pre-show dinner. -

My date and I had reservations at The Smith on the same block. It was noisy, unfriendly and unaccommodating. So we canceled the reservation and walked over to Bar Boulud. It was fairly crowded. I told the host that we didn’t have reservations. He looked and said that we could wait a few minutes at the bar or go to outside seating. We decided outside and were seated promptly and efficiently. The meal was fabulous. The wine exquisite and the service first class. We had a wonderful, non-rushed dinner and the knowledge that we just found a new favorite restaurant. More importantly, we were very happy that we were never going to deal with The Smith ever again. -
