Fantastic place with great food and drinks. I wasn’t a fan of the pisco sour but I could definitely tell its quality even though it wasn’t my favorite. High shelf quality and it was super well balanced. My second drink was the Manhattan - their signature drink. And WOW was it good. Get this drink if you go here. Lastly their food was good. I had their burger and fries with a side of mac. Really good. The art both on the walls and ceilings are world class. The ambience is unbeatable. I will be returning. -

Bemelmans is known for many things: the Ludwig Bemelman (creator of Madeline children’s books) murals that drape the walls, the live music, phenomenal cocktails, and being a hotbed for socialites, politicians, movie stars, and moguls. To be honest I didnt really care about any of that because these Pigs in a Blanket single handedly changed my life. Ive eaten my body weight in franks in blanks over the past few years (Im 65 230 haha), and these stand alone at the 1 spot. The crown is heavy. It is 5 pieces of Andouille sausage wrapped in pastry dough that has the perfect crisp on the outer layer, topped off with a meticulous dab of spicy mustard. I mean just look at that picture. It tastes better than it looks if you can believe that. While the rest of our group was enjoying the live piano, looking for famous people, or scanning Ludwigs murals, I was staring at the lone little piggy left on the plate.Between sips of my Vesper, my internal dialogue was going crazy: I cant just take it, that would be rude... But I want it so bad. You can tell they cooked the sausage separately before wrapping it too... I NEED it... No I dont... Youre with your girlfriends family Johnny do NOT take it... But they know me well enough now...Just then my big bro said J Novo that has your name on it, take it. I see you eyeing it. SEE! THATS WHY HE IS BIG BRO.I also gotta shoutout the piano man, Roberto. He was taking request after request, just bodying EVERYTHING. His rendition of Vienna by Billy Joel got me a little emotional if we are being honest. He was way better than the live jazz trio that came on after him ($35 a person cover charge).Roberto came over to our table after, in his full suit and tie, and started RIZZING up all the ladies at our table. It was inspirational. I had to put my arm around my girl cuz I was getting nervous... Roberto the Rizzler!I actually loved this bar, even though its damn near $30 a cocktail. Youre paying for the vibe. Im ecstatic to come back in the winter, as having a couple cocktails (and piggies) around Christmas time in a bar like this is what I think of when I think of New York City.Ig @jnov_Tiktok @jnov_reviews -

Located in the Carlyle Hotel, Bemelmans Bar offers a blend of classic elegance and whimsy with murals by Ludwig Bemelmans. The expertly crafted cocktails, attentive service, and live jazz performances create a memorable experience. Prices are high but worth it for special occasions. A must-visit for its unique charm and historic ambiance. -
Review 4 (2024-01-02 - Rating: 4)
Delightful atmosphere, absolutely loved the murals and the old timey feel. We went in around 2:30 pm, well before the music started, and it was really hard to get service. We had to wait for someone to leave the bar, and even then the bartender was not the most attentive. Drinks were good, definitely overpriced. You’re paying for the experience and atmosphere for sure. But not a bad way to spend a winter afternoon, if you want to be spendy. -
Review 5 (2024-02-03 - Rating: 5)
Tops! Great drinks, food and live music what else could you ask for. Plus the prettiest place around. We arrived around 10:30 pm and it was packed on Thursday but lucked out with a table right away. The service and staff is impeccable. I love all the different rooms of the hotel to eat or have a drink. The restaurant and champagne bar are both incredible as well. A memorable experience and can’t wait to return. Very elegant and upbeat. Great vibe. -
Review 6 (2023-12-02 - Rating: 5)
Very cool experience at The Carlyle especially with the drawing-focused murals all over the bar! Drinks are priced steeply but shockingly they’re actually worth the cost - they’re delicately made and served with class. Wait time can be around 15-25 minutes during the day if you are not a hotel guest, and i think the evening should be harder to swing a table given the popular piano performances. -
Review 7 (2024-12-31 - Rating: 5)
Beautiful little room. Everything was soft and velvety. Tons of cushions. Moody lighting and stunning wallpaper. The food was exactly what we wanted on a cold, rainy NY day. Im grateful to the chef for accommodating an allergy (coconut) when I ordered the butternut squash soup. It was absolutely delicious. The rolls came out untoasted, which was a surprise, but they were still a nice touch. Tried a cocktail that was fabulous. Topped with Moet and Chandon. The staff was very nice and incredibly patient. The table next to us sounded like an absolute nightmare, and the servers were just so gracious. -
Review 8 (2024-12-20 - Rating: 5)
One of the last of old school New York Historic Bars, drinks were incredible and bartenders were great. 10$ per person for entertainment while we were there but it was worth it. Miss my dirty martini. Can’t wait to come back. -
Review 9 (2024-01-27 - Rating: 5)
Historical and iconic place where we thought of giving a try to see if we can get a table in the piano bar considering how difficult it is normally to get in and we are not staying in the hotel.Upon arriving we were told there might be 25 mins waiting time to get a sit-down table for 4 so we decided to give a try and wait for it.There were only a couple who were ahead of us but eventually they kicked off with the hotel manager and left so we ended up being in the first of the line.People were accumulated so swiftly at the glass door where the queue starts and we were very lucky given a table after 10 mins. The atmosphere was excellent but very busy. We were served as soon as we sat down while we were waiting for the other 2. A coverage charges $35 per head for a sit-down table so they didntt end up staying. We tried countless cocktails and they were all excellent! Snacks were provided and I ordered waygue beef sliders as I didnt enjoy my dinner at The Mark Hotel across the road. The sliders were delicious. Our waiter Leo was excellent and suggested some great cocktails. The bar manager was outstanding in clearing a few groups of people who were not supposed to dance or standing right in front of the piano and next to our table. The musicians who played and sang throughout the night from 9:30 were extraordinary and we enjoyed our evening here thoroughly. Worth every single penny. -
Review 10 (2024-03-13 - Rating: 5)
Came here to celebrate my bday. Really posh vibe, you can feel the wealth in the attendees. Drinks are STRONG, not cheap, but you’re not coming here to skimp. Great place to chill out before a nice dinner. -

Bemelmans Bar at The Carlyle is pure magic. From the moment you step in, you’re hit with this amazing old-school charm that’s just perfect for a night out. The murals on the walls, drawn by Ludwig Bemelmans himself, are beautiful and add such a unique vibe to the whole place. It feels like stepping into a piece of New York history. The drinks here are top-notch. I had the classic martini, and it was probably the best I’ve ever had. The bartenders really know their stuff, and the service is impeccable. It’s a bit pricey, but honestly, it’s worth every penny for the experience you get. They use only the finest ingredients, and you can really taste the difference. The live piano music is a fantastic touch. It really sets the mood and makes the evening feel special. It’s the kind of place where you can just sit back, relax, and soak in the atmosphere. The crowd is a mix of locals and tourists, all enjoying the timeless elegance of this iconic bar.If you’re looking for a classy spot in NYC with great drinks and an amazing ambiance, Bemelmans Bar is the place to go. I can’t recommend it enough. Whether you’re on a date or just out with friends, you’re gonna have a great time. This place is truly a New York gem. -

So, we came to Bemelmans Bar with high expectations and they were all exceeded. The place is beautiful, the music is excellent, food and drink top notch, and the service is warm and attentive (Thank you, Leo, for a wonderful evening). We plan on making Bemelmans Bar a regular stop for all future trips to New York.________________🌏Weight Loss Motivation Blogger.🔥Impressive Weight Loss. The most old new york you can get: classy, but modern, with amazing service and great drinks menu, plus live jazzy music every day! A place where you can dress up to and not feel out of place. Unfortunately more and more Gen Zers discover this elegant place and show up in sweatpants and beanies (which is a fashion crime).Come early, the line is long (40-50 min) already starting from 5pm. Expect a cover charge to be added to your bill (and I feel they need to raise it as demand is so much higher now). The best thing - unlimited snacks and nuts. And of course live music. -

😎how many times have I been to this place? 10+👩🏻summary: A must visit place for jazz lovers in NYC 🎹❤️ Love the timeless atmosphere and music with high-end piano bar with renowned murals! The staff and servers are always nice and professional. Rob Mosci and Earl Rose are my favorite players! -
Review 15 (2021-06-23 - Rating: 5)
A fun New York City experience. Very cool murals. Check the times for live music before going. Price are high but its worth the scene and the drink portions are over the top--they bring you the extra from the shaker. Be sure to get a reservation. Cover charge from 6pm to 9pm. -
Review 16 (2023-10-28 - Rating: 4)
Overpriced, but a real NY bar with live music for those who enjoy.Pretentious enough, classy enough. Not my jam. Possibly good for a date night. But not for a friends out kinda night. -
Review 17 (2024-06-19 - Rating: 5)
The ambiance is amazing and was a great place to come for a cocktail. Drinks are outrageously priced: most are $35-65 each. I ordered a plain vodka/club soda and it was $25. Anything fancier will be at least $35. We had to search and flag down the server every time we wanted to order something. They could have sold a lot more drinks if they had checked on us because our drinks were empty for a long time. But the vibe is worth it and staff was friendly.Note: once the second entertainer comes on, there is an additional $25 cover charge. They came to our table to let us know, so we left at that point. We didn’t have a reservation but got there early and was able to get seated. It isn’t loud so you can hear your friends speak. -

It’s nice to see people’s reaction to Bemelman’s in the Carlisle. It’s a charming space however it has become pretentious as have the waiters. A $28 martini is just not worth it. Too bad. -

Highly recommend this bar. I got the Jackie O. cocktail and it was incredible. -
Review 20 (2016-12-31 - Rating: 4)
Ludwig paintings of Central Park and, of course, Madeline on the walls of this cozy piano bar.Free salty snacks augment the pricey drinks and light menu. Worth it for a quick drink, or longer if youre made of money! -
Review 21 (2024-10-22 - Rating: 5)
Cover charge schedule: 530-830 its $10 pp bc it covers the pianist ( if you come in at 5 and stay past 530, still $10), after 830 its $35 pp if u sit at table, $20 pp if you sit at bar, (higher price bc at 830 a jazz trio comes on) (slightly cheaper Sunday Monday post 830p: then it’s $25pp table $15pp bar ) this is as of 10-21-24 -
Review 22 (2024-09-26 - Rating: 5)
I love this place. You have to queue to enter but if you come at a right time you shouldn’t have to wait more than 10 minutes.I recommend sitting at the bar or with a good view of the piano if the jazz session is on. The drinks are pricey but you pay for the experience at drinking & dining at this iconic place. -

🍸I doubt I could sum Bemelmans up better than Anthony Bourdain did years ago so I won’t try. This is just such a classic experience, well made cocktails, martinis, in an amazing ambiance with a soothing piano player, get lost here, eat two bowls of the signature snacks, run up a bill, stay late or stop in…this is an incredible place. -
Review 27 (2022-11-14 - Rating: 5)
Even though there’s usually a wait (unless you are staying at the hotel or arrive early in a weekday), the martinis are extraordinary, the place has a long history and is the ultimate New York experience. -
Review 28 (2024-04-07 - Rating: 5)
Located in the Upper East Side, Bemelmans Bar at The Carlyle Hotel is an icon of timeless elegance. Stepping inside, guests are transported to an era of sophistication and charm, where style seamlessly blends with old-world glamour. The bars decor, crafted by the legendary Ludwig Bemelmans, evokes a sense of nostalgia, inviting patrons to indulge in the romance of yesteryears. Enhancing the enchanting atmosphere is the presence of Earl, a virtuoso whose mesmerizing piano performances every Tuesday elevate the experience to new heights. Its a cherished gem serving as a testament to the citys rich cultural heritage. -

Carlyle hotels Bemelmans Bar: especially love the enchanting murals by Bemelmans (same person who did the Madeline books!). -
Review 30 (2024-11-09 - Rating: 5)
Bemelmans Bar is one of my favorite spots in the city. It has a cozy vibe that is great for a cold winters night. The music is always incredible and people are friendly. It’s a great place to go for a fun date or to meet up with friends. You do have to stand in line but you can usually get in decently quickly, especially if you don’t mind standing at the bar. I always have a great time whenever I go. -

Review 33 (2023-03-22 - Rating: 4)
Bemelmans bar is a must do at least once if living in NYC. I hadnt been in about ten years before visiting this March. Its very popular again. When I visited there were two or three large groups of youngish people who didnt seem to know how small it is. Their groups would have been more well suited to the lounge, instead of trying to do standing room in the bar. The music is just right from the lounge and the seating is more comfortable. Inside the bar, the piano makes talking quite difficult. The famous murals are really hurting from age but still worth seeing.$25 cover for inside the bar on top of order, cocktails are actually reasonable given what lesser establishments charge these days. Its a people watching spot.. -
Review 34 (2017-01-03 - Rating: 5)
The best jazz bar in the city! Old school charm and perfectly crafted cocktails. -
Review 35 (2023-07-03 - Rating: 5)
Relaxed and classy atmosphere at this iconic NYC hotel bar. Must visit if you can get in (we happened to just walk in on a slow Saturday afternoon and were immediately seated at the bar). The cocktails are amazing and worth the steep price, the service is classy but unpretentious. -
Review 36 (2023-06-29 - Rating: 4)
Great mural, love the space. There are some water damage on the ceiling, I hope they fix it soon before any of mural damage beyond repair. Drink was good but price. Service was good. The wait staffs bumped to my chair constantly, it was annoying. -

I went here for a drink to relax and enjoy myself. The ambiance is very nice , the staff very friendly from the moment you walk in to the moment you walk out. This is top of the line service. I only had drinks and the treats they place on the bar, but it was quite an experience. Will definitely visit again. -

Stopped for a quick drink and apps. Very low lighting and a soothing atmosphere. Staff was great. Had the Jackie-o drink which had passion fruit and vodka. VERY GOOD. The pigs in a blanket were def the best I ever had. We ordered another round. Also tried the burrata which was good as well. The cheese plate was also delicious. -

Bemelmans Bar at The Carlyle Hotel is the real deal in NYC!Ive visited bars all over NYC—not just in Manhattan—and Bemelmans is one of my top choices, so I am a regular client there. Some might argue its too expensive, with its cover charge and pricey drinks. But in reality, this is a prime example of cost-effectiveness. Compared to other so-called exclusive/glamorous but lame and expensive bars, you don’t go to Bemelmans just to have a drink, listen to average music, or be surrounded by pretentious people. You go to Bemelmans to pay a premium price for an unparalleled experience.Bemelmans Bar is arguably the most iconic bar in NYC, capturing the essence of classic New York with its unique wall paintings, live piano and jazz music, excellent cocktails, diverse clientele, and an electrifying atmosphere you just won’t find easily elsewhere. The cherry on top is the staff: the GM, doormen, bartenders, and waitstaff are some of the finest and genuinely nicest people in the NYC hospitality industry. Cheers! -

Review 42 (2023-09-07 - Rating: 4)
Very classy intimate bar. If you want to get seating in the evening , arrive early (before 5pm). The live piano is a nice touch. The only con is that it’s a very expensive place…. $32 for one cocktail! Oh vey! I think that is the most I have ever sent on one cocktail. -

This is one of our favorite places in Manhattan. We are so happy they are open again. The servers are all friendly and attentive. The host always making sure there is room for people waiting to get in. Earl Rose was at the piano when we came, but we like all the players. Still have not gone later in the evening, which we hope to do soon. -

Walked right in on Tuesday night. Crowd and trio on the inside were in great spirits. The menu’s delicious and our glasses never ran dry before the next one arrived. Incredibly friendly service and the ambiance is just what you imagine it would be… as smooth as the soft golden glow that bounces off the original Bemelman illustrated walls. -

What an iconic place, “if these walls had ears”goes the saying at Bemelman’s, beautiful venue, best martinis in town and incredible staff! -
Review 49 (2020-01-02 - Rating: 5)
Great place. They have jazz band playing there, the reason we chose that place. We really enjoyed the music. They have a cover fee to enter. The drinks were very good, although on a pricy side ($25+). The service was great, all the waiters were friendly, helpful and prompt. Overall vibe is very cozy and relaxing. We will be back! -
Review 50 (2021-07-12 - Rating: 5)
Little pricey, but amazing atmosphere and nice staff. With the martini you essentially get 2 drinks because they give you a little glass on ice with the remnants from creating your martini! Enjoy the free nuts and crackers while listening to beautiful piano -
Review 51 (2021-08-29 - Rating: 4)
If you want to feel like you’re in a Woody Allen movie than this is the place. Don’t get excited about the pianist though. Not to disparage his ability, I’m sure he’s great but no one at the place is listening or cares. His music is drowned out by the crowd noise talking over him. Overall a great place for a drink. People couldn’t care less about the piano music. -
Review 52 (2023-10-15 - Rating: 5)
A truly 5 star experience, starting with my phone call from Australia to enquire about the bar, music, best time to arrive etc, to my experience with concierge Helen and Jarad who were warm, helpful and more then accommodating, with Jared leading me personally to the bar, to bar tender John making me feel right at home, to the wonderful piano playing of Earl Rose. Ah, lovely memory and will definitely be going back when in NYC next 😊 -
Review 53 (2019-03-11 - Rating: 5)
One of the most amazing places to go in NYC. Be prepared to pay the cover charge and for all that is holy - dress nice!!! There is always a mix of locals and tourists here listening to the live music and enjoying a drink. There is just something so New York about this place. The atmosphere is fantastic and you never know who you’ll run into here. The employees at Bemelmans are outstanding and always deliver great service. -

Another superb Christmas at Bemelmans. The vibe was magical, the service unrushed, the pianist sublime, and the martinis perfectly mixed.Spent more than four hours lingering at a sedate pace of a cocktail per hour and never felt rushed or hurried. -

Always go out of my way to stop in here for a feeling of what is slipping away from Manhattan- that old charm of intimacy, live music and interesting people. Long live the original art murals, quick witted bartenders and smiling musicians. -

I would like to thank Pedro at the bar for making my first good alcoholic drinks (just turned 21!) at Bemelmans, he was very professional and fast paced at his job and gave a great recommendation for beverages. It is very busy but cozy atmosphere. I will definitely be back! -Paco -

Transported back in time. This is an old-world NY bar in the school of the great places that you associate with classic NY places. The atmosphere is wonderful and the surrounding painted walls and low light just make you want to stay there forever. However, when the check comes you realize that you can only stay for one or two. I am all for high-end, but the price tag leaves you more than a little breathless.Overall for a real treat, this is a nice little spot in The Carlyle, just bring your high limit credit cards! -
Review 58 (2021-08-04 - Rating: 4)
This place has lore, ya know. It’s the bar at the Carlyle, it’s a New York Institution, open since 1947, historic murals la de da. So, I had to check it out. Got here on a Tuesday at 10:30, with no reservation, got lucky and was able to snag a table for four people. Four drinks came out to $100 before tip so be ready for that. I had the earl grey martini. It was nice enough but a little too sweet for my taste. The crowd is definitely older. Seems to be a spot for UES locals, who were all wasted by 10:30 pm lol. Service was a litttle slow, and I expected a more polished and stiff atmosphere to be honest, it was messy! The crowd was a little rowdy and the staff was a bit overwhelmed! I expected a Mad Men style quiet bar but you know, whatever. I had my drink, I saw the place, I didn’t hate it. -

Iconic, sophisticated bar with the golden Celling, unreal paintings on the walls. Piano and jazz music in the evening. Noisy, better to reserve the table in advance. Cocktails, beer and champagne exist -

Loved it! Went early-ish (like, seven) on a Friday for a drink and to listen to music before we went to dinner. The pianist was fabulous and the drinks were excellent. The Bemelman murals were a joy. Super old fashioned place where you can channel the 40s and 50s. White coated waiters, stiff martini with generous amount, which it should be for the price. But I dont mind the price given the quality of the experience. (I think my husband wants to move in to the place.) -

The table snacks here are pretty unreal. It makes it totally worth it to get a $25 cocktail or a $12 beer. Our server had brought us another bowl of them before we even finished the first one. Free iced tea in the hotel lobby is a big plus too. You get to see Bemelmans art on the walls, and thats pretty awesome too! -

I will always have love affair with this place… where Ludwig Bemelmans’ masterpiece murals adorn the walls. The staffers who have been working here quite some time are just amazing. And the music… Time stopped here around 1940s. I know it’s being selfish but I wish less people knew this bar. -

I cant believe that Im reviewing Bemelmans Bar, because I want to keep this place all to myself! This is the place to spend a relaxing night with another couple or to take out of town guests for a taste of old-school New York. The drinks are wonderful: they make the best pisco sour outside of Peru, give you the extra in from the shaker for each martini (keeping it cool on ice for you to top your martini off when getting a bit low), and have the tastiest little bar snacks to make kicking back a drink that much easier. Food is recommended (especially when tossing back martinis), and everything Ive tried has been a success. The real draw though, is the cozy room, filled with whimsical murals and live music (jazz) that makes it impossible to peel yourself away. For the best service, sit at the bar, as the bartenders are prompt, proper, and professional. Service at the tables is nothing to turn you away, but can sometimes be a little slower. All around, A+. -

Exquisite cocktails and snacks. This was the best Manhattan I have ever had. -
Review 79 (2024-07-07 - Rating: 5)
A NYC icon worth visiting for the martinis and decor alone. Gorgeous interiors and fantastic live music on weekends (albeit with a cover in the evening). Service can be inconsistent for the price of the drinks, particularly if you’re sitting in the foyer. Food can be hit or miss. But the classic cocktails over-compensate for all of those. -

A hidden gem of a bar. A return to the golden age of intimate rooms where one can enjoy a cocktail with friends. -
Review 81 (2023-07-14 - Rating: 5)
Lovely bar. Go early enough in the day and there is no dress code. Great snacks to go with your cocktails. The bar and the hotel is totally a throwback in time. -

Beautiful place, great atmosphere, very upscale, it will be delicious and memorable, but it will be also quite expensive :) its worth the money! -
Review 83 (2019-11-24 - Rating: 5)
Intimate space that truly comes alive at night. Its classy with unique touches, like Bemelmans Madeline artwork on the walls. Wonderful dirty martinis and fantastic live jazz trio! -
Review 84 (2022-05-10 - Rating: 5)
The old school New York staple for both locals and tourists. Other than the well-crafted cocktails and extensive champagne list, their food (esp. the Waygu sliders and fries!) is also delicious. Live jazz is performed daily from 5 to late, making this dimly lit cozy spot perfect for a casual meet up after work or chill date night. -

As I may have expressed previously, Bemelmans is one of the treasures of New York City, and should be on the itinerary of anyone who values conversation, exquisite service deftly delivered, or truly thoughtful staff with interesting and even intriguing personalities.Do not miss it, if you have the chance to go. -

This was such a great experience! The drinks were fantastic, the service was top notch and the decor was gorgeous. Its obviously a bit pricier given the location, but its definitely worth it.The Earl Grey Martini and Madelines Vesper were our favorites. -

Expensive but a great evening cocktail if can grab a table. Comes with a good portion of snacks (chips, nuts, cheese crisps) and drinks are well made. Got the homemade pigs in a blanket and they were really good. Had a table requesting songs not sure if that’s allows but made for a fun time with the piano man. -

Bemelmans bar is a high end jazz bar at the Carlyle NYC, a Rosewood Hotel. Doormen and host would scan you from head till toe before letting you in. We could see most guests were regulars and from upper class. Theres a $15 dollars charge for each person. Drinks and foods menu of coz charged at upper scale price. Servers were extremely mannered and anything below 20% for tipping simply would not do.😂😂😂 We were there for the vocalist, it was a male vocal as well as the pianist that night. We made a call to enquire before going. Live music with vocal will begin from 6pm to 9pm. Sadly he only began to sing for the last 15 min of the entire session. Its such a shame, he had such magnificent voice. Wish he could sing few more songs.Anyone who will pay a visit to Hong Kong in the future, check the DarkSide at Rosewood Hong Kong. Its much better than Bemelmans. Much spacious, with a cool open patio for drink and mingle. Most importantly the live bands who perfomed at the DarkSide were simply the best! -

Great martini, enjoyable background music. Nice very intimate place, and the artwork on the wall will remind some of their childhood, in a good way! -

At the Carlyle Hotel, NYC. First rate cabaret music (Bobby Short’s “home base”). Ask the bartender the story about the wall murals painted by Ludwig Bemelmans, author and artist of the charming Madeleine series of children’s books. -

Vintage old-New York establishment, must visit for a drink … but be prepared to wait for a table, so best to get there before the line fills up ~5p -
Review 93 (2017-02-20 - Rating: 5)
The artwork by Bemelman that adorn the walls is beautiful. The food was about average but it was the ambience including the talented pianist that day that really made it quite the experience. -
Review 94 (2019-01-12 - Rating: 5)
I was looking for an upscale bar that is rather calm for NYE in NYC. Carlyle hotel and Bemman’s bar was the best choice I made for what I wanted. The entire hotel was decorated to celebrate the occasion and lobby was pleasantly full with holiday ambience with guests dancing in ballroom gowns.Bemelman’s experience was fantastic- special thanks to the bar manager Dimitrios for making our night so special. He took extra time to kindly explain the history of the hotel and library wines. He went above and beyond to ensure our experience was nothing but fantastic.Definable recommend this venue for any occasion. -
Review 95 (2022-01-10 - Rating: 5)
Went for a drink at Bemelmans Bar on Christmas Eve. The queue outside in the lobby may seem long but I was seated inside after a 20 min wait, right by the bar itself and the piano. That’s quick in my books! I skimmed the menu, ordered the Earl Grey martini (the vodka was steeped so well with the flavour & drink was strong!), and asked to settle the bill right away so I can fast sip before going to another venue for dinner. I love how there’s complimentary bar nuts and some cheesy cracker mix. Our server (name unknown) was awesome! Will definitely be back to enjoy a longer visit and Cafe Carlyle next door will open once again for music performances! -
Review 96 (2021-11-13 - Rating: 5)
One should read a little bit of the history of the bar and how the murals came to be as this bar is basically historical. Hi he bartenders know their stuff and are always available to make a quick suggestion. The martini pour is always ample and comes with a little extra on the side. While Bobby Short no longer plays the musicians who do “tickle the ivory’s” always play to the room. Plan ahead and get there well ahead of cocktail hour as this place will be jumping. -

Iconic jazz and piano bar from days gone by for perfectly stirred not shaken martinis and accompanying salty bar snacks. They don’t take reservations, so expect a line. NYC Bucket list item, at the Carlyle hotel. -

We didnt dine at the bar, but we did visit two evenings in a row to savor a couple of glasses of wine. Since we were staying at the hotel, we were treated like VIPs from the moment we stepped in. The bar manager was exceptional, going out of his way to ensure we had an amazing experience. While the wine was satisfactory, the pianist and jazz trio provided delightful entertainment. The iconic ambiance made it a perfect way to end the evening. -

Wife and I have been wanting to go to this bar for weeks. We stopped on our way home just to check it out and was greeted by the Manager, Mersa(?), a tall beautiful woman with a strong friendly presence who welcomed us and gave us a tour. She gave us tips on when to come to avoid the crowds. We are running out of time but now will absolutely come back before we leave to listen to the piano and grab a drink (hope my post drink review is equally positive). -
