Such a lovely place, there is even a garden. Amazing books, high quality in choice, I was really surprised. When I went to the restroom and I found out that they have put the Satrapi’s graphic novel on the walls I have said to myself I have to write a review about this amazing little book shop. You can have a coffee here or Adriano as well.Another precious place on this street with Jane’s exchange.

Immaculate. Especially during the holidays.Tall person behind counter was extremely kind, even around midnight on a Saturday after was a probably a very long day.Incredible selection of books, literary themed drink menu, ample space to hang out and read… honestly a perfect place in NY?!Wish every neighborhood had a spot like Book Club Bar.

  • Review 3 (2024-10-14 - Rating: 5)

So much love for this space. It is so cute and what a great concept!! I was drawn here because this is where SMJ did her Crescent City 3 release. So cool!!

  • Review 4 (2024-09-06 - Rating: 5)

Fantastic mix of a coffee shop and a local bar. Comfy and cozy with a nice soundtrack on in the background. This will be your favorite spot to read and grab a coffee.

  • Review 5 (2023-10-22 - Rating: 5)

This was such an incredible experience. Very well thought out idea. We perused through some books, grabbed some drinks, and played chess. Their expresso martini is incredible! The ambiance was like a mini getaway from the chaos of the city. Even the bathrooms are beautifully decorated and on theme. This is a beautiful place to visit. 10/10 recommend.

  • Review 6 (2024-10-29 - Rating: 4)

Very relaxed atmosphere. Service was a bit slow at the bar, noticed some staff loaded with work and others casually chatting without offering a hand. Did a bit of light reading and then worked on my laptop but there was no WiFi to my surprise because the place serves for a convenient and comfortable place to get some work done, so long you’re not bothering anyone around you. Like the guy next to me having a full on meeting with his AirPods on. 🙄

  • Review 7 (2024-06-21 - Rating: 5)

One of the unique spaces where you can have a coffee / drink and you don’t feel like at a Genius Bar. People are reading, conversing, knitting. Great staff, super vibes and lots of books to browse from.

  • Review 8 (2023-04-10 - Rating: 5)

Great little spot for working or reading, or grabbing some coffee. Imposes a natural quiet atmosphere. So probably wouldn’t be the best place for a conference call or chatting, unless you took it outside (they have front and back outside seating). For laptop/work be warned: There is no Wifi here AND no places to power/ charge. They also ask for no more than 90 mins of laptop time for seating sharing. And no laptop usage after 6pm at all, which is respectable.

  • Review 9 (2023-01-17 - Rating: 5)

This is my local haven, my escape from the world! Not only is the Book Club great for picking from the newest and very eclectic selection of books, you can order coffee, beer or wine and non-alcoholic beverages. They have a selection of teas and mulled wine in the winter. They also have delicious pastries. My favorite part about Book Club is the lasting friendships that I’ve built with the incredible staff! Mathuson, Karie, Lissa, Jude and Ben! The owners Erin and Nat are hard working and have created an amazing atmosphere in the neighborhood with Book Club.Get there early if you want a seat at the bar or in the back, lounge area. There is also an outdoor seating area and seating goes fast!

  • Review 10 (2023-12-27 - Rating: 5)

Book Club combines a cozy and intimate café atmosphere with a book store, with plenty of seating available for reading (note there is no WiFi and laptop usage is discouraged after 6pm). With late-night hours, it’s an ideal spot for indulging in immersive reading sessions.

  • Review 11 (2024-02-26 - Rating: 5)

Its a unique place that combines a bookstore, cafe, reading space, workspace, and outdoor patio. I used the space as a quick 20-minute stop between my two meetings to look around and do some reading. However, that wasnt enough time to form a final opinion about the venue. Im excited about the concept and atmosphere, but on the other hand, there were a lot of distractions due to overcrowding, too many people moving around, and noise from loud conversations in the reading area. I plan to return and spend more time here soon.

  • Review 12 (2023-09-19 - Rating: 5)

This place is really unique! Bar + cafe + bookstore. I was impressed with the selection of books they have — it’s not just a gimmick. We sat in the back garden, read books, and drank tea! They serve wine, cider and cocktails at the bar. A good vibe — it’s not too loud in the afternoon, so you can read and get work done. The open the front door wall on nice days to let the fresh air in.

  • Review 13 (2024-10-16 - Rating: 5)

Very cute bar and a lovely concept which I wish they would emulate all over. Bookstore that doubles as a coffee shop by day and bar by night. Not crowded but did have a bit of trouble finding seating. Staff arefriendly

  • Review 14 (2024-11-28 - Rating: 4)

The drinks were good. The book selection not too shabby. Would love to come for one of the events they host in the future. They look pretty cool. TBD.ʕ ꈍᴥꈍʔ

  • Review 15 (2023-08-02 - Rating: 5)

This is a great spot! I enjoyed my hibiscus sour as I looked at their book collection. They offer a lot of good books that you can purchase and then read inside or out. Must visit - especially as a chill end of evening activity.

  • Review 16 (2024-07-14 - Rating: 4)

Great vibes with a pretty wide selection of books - I didn’t have one in mind so I didn’t see any I was interested in, but that’s not for lack of options. They had a good number of chairs and tables in the back of the bar and outside (front and back) to sit, read, drink, chat, etc. so it felt cozy. We did happen to go on the same day as one of the pride events, so it was very crowded and loud and difficult to move - but I will give the benefit of the doubt that it was due to the day and not how it is normally because otherwise it seems like a great place to relax. The drinks were pretty good, they didn’t have a whole lot of options on the board, but it’s a bar so if they have something you can order what you like. They have signs up to not be on your laptops in the bar so definitely wouldn’t recommend if you plan on working remotely or anything of that sort.

  • Review 17 (2024-10-01 - Rating: 5)

An excellent bookshop with excellent drinks. Good service, a great selection of books and a fantastic ambiance. This is the kind of place we would absolutely live at if we had one in our community back home.

  • Review 18 (2024-06-13 - Rating: 5)

I love Book Club bar! What a true gem. I love the concept of a bar, coffee shop and book store that stays open late! I live far so dont get to come as much as Id like but if I was closer would be a serious regular. Coffee and drinks are super tasty, staff friendly, the books are extremely well-curated (new books), they focus NYC authors, and while Ive only been to the drawing event their events sound awesome! They also have a back outside patio which is always delightful when places have but my only complaint is the lack of seating. Most times I come I cant find a spot and have to go elsewhere which is a bummer when someone like me gets terribly excited for a certain destination and experience. Happy they have limited their laptop hours to help solve this problem but this problem is not their fault due to space but perhaps the place could be rearranged in some fashion to add more seating but not sure.Ive taken a date here (good date spot for book lovers), and many friends. Love it! Side note: One small-ish complaint is I love it so much I have wanted to work here. I realize they probably get a TON of applicants but have tried several times and never hear a response. I have a Masters in Library Science and a lot of customer service experience and get frustrated when jobs do not respond but seems to be somewhat common these days sadly.

  • Review 19 (2024-12-25 - Rating: 5)

Great concept - definitely check out the place if you’re in the neighbourhood! But the seating was limited and it gets quite busy in the evenings.

  • Review 20 (2022-03-27 - Rating: 5)

This place is lovely with a really relaxing vibe. In the front there’s a bar with wine and beer and some tables and chairs. In the back there’s a book store with a lot of comfortable seating. We got the boozy cold brew and it was so great with some oat milk. The books were curated and there were recommendations and reviews. Picked up a couple books and will definitely come back.

  • Review 21 (2024-06-12 - Rating: 5)

Stumbled across this place whilst looking for somewhere comfy to relax for a while and read. Book Club Bar did not disappoint. There was a great reasonably priced selection of hot and cold drinks, alcoholic and non alcoholic. I settled on a sparkling Rosé, yum. I checked out all the seating options. The small outdoor space at the back was full but I managed to get a comfy armchair inside. Wooden shelving and flooring with retro worn rugs and ceiling fans worked to give character and add interest. There was a good mix of couples, small groups and singletons and the vibe was chill. Recommended.

  • Review 22 (2024-12-11 - Rating: 5)

Absolutely love ADORE this place. The concept. The staff. The ambience. this is my go to when i just wanna relax, have a beer, and do a little reading.

  • Review 23 (2021-05-12 - Rating: 5)

A combo bookshop, wine bar, coffee shop. Whats not to love? Great arm chairs, good pastries, and an interesting / wide tea selection. Will be back to try the wines! Also looks like a great place to work / study.

  • Review 24 (2024-01-19 - Rating: 5)

Such a nice place!! I had heard about this place last year and finally decided to go there to read and drink at the bar. Little did I know how crowded it would be, but after a while I got a seat at the bar. The staff is sooooooo nice and their iced latte was amazing!! Will definitely be returning!

  • Review 25 (2024-12-21 - Rating: 5)

Great book recommendations and bartenders who will talk about the books, plus the cocktails are pretty good

  • Review 26 (2023-12-18 - Rating: 5)

Really cozy, lovely bar and bookstore. The staff is super nice. The drinks are great. The environment is really warm. 10/10

  • Review 27 (2024-06-02 - Rating: 4)

Good afternoon NYC & welcome back !Thank you for lending me your digital eyes!Let’s get right into it, I stumbled upon this location after visiting my partner at work a couple doors down & I LOVED IT ! A bookstore/bar fusion sounded like a great idea in my opinion & they delivered on it 100% !I got an espresso martini, naturally; it was one of my favorites thus far after having nearly 10 different ones around the city😂My partner & myself indulged in a small conversation w/ the bartenders at the time, John & Mathewson. They were very welcoming, wholesome & joyous to talk to!I recommend paying a visit asap to lend your love, respect & presence !Peace !

  • Review 28 (2024-12-28 - Rating: 5)

Love this place! Books, coffee and cosy ambience = perfection.

  • Review 29 (2023-05-30 - Rating: 4)

A hidden gem in NYC. I took my son there since we were too early for the dinner. I googled a place close by our restaurant and was open during the holiday, the Book Club popped up. The seats were nicely arranged, people were chill, and everyone was reading a book. My four-year-old picked a bench and read five books. Theres one star taken off for the drink, we forgot to order the drink so I dont know how it tasted. Well come back for sure.

  • Review 30 (2023-02-18 - Rating: 4)

Very cozy store, nice ambient music (i did see others complain about the volume although it was fine for me), hand picked book selection, overall nice and cozy place to read.

  • Review 31 (2024-05-19 - Rating: 5)

It was my first time visiting Book Club after wanting to go for so long, and it was amazing! The variety of genres and books they have is significant, and the drinks are great as well. The atmosphere was super cozy and such a vibe. I will definitely be back!

  • Review 32 (2023-05-05 - Rating: 5)

Nice place. Went in the morning on a Wed. A decent amount of seating and outlets for laptops but no wifi. Looks like there are a bunch of different events in the evening as well

  • Review 33 (2023-04-18 - Rating: 5)

My favorite place in the city! Delish coffee, calming atmosphere, and very kind staff.

  • Review 34 (2022-06-28 - Rating: 5)

Cozy spot to read on a rainy day with a latte.Loved the small details such as the book pages for wallpaper in the bathroom. Also the barista’s playlist had some Hilary duff bops. Much appreciated

  • Review 35 (2023-07-02 - Rating: 5)

Super chill, nice indoor/outdoor vibe, outlets to plug in your laptop and your choice of caffeinated or alcoholic beverages, and books! What more could you ask for?

  • Review 36 (2021-06-10 - Rating: 5)

Absolutely love this place! So cozy and welcoming. The barista was friendly and quick to make our drinks. The coffee was good enough, but I just love the space. It has a great outdoor patio in the back, plenty of seating, WiFi, and great book selection!

  • Review 37 (2024-10-05 - Rating: 5)

I have definitely loved this place!

  • Review 38 (2024-01-15 - Rating: 5)

Wonderful place. Reasonably priced drinks and great coffee (for Manhattan). I sat there for three hours or so reading comic books. I prefer it over a regular bookstore but they typically don’t have the same selection.I got there early and was able to get a seat by the fireplace. It was quiet, but there were a lot of people coming through. They also had some seats outside in the front and a cozy back yard.

  • Review 39 (2023-11-26 - Rating: 5)

This is one of my favorite places in the city to go for a great coffee, tea, or cocktail and an amazing atmosphere. You can sit in this wonderful bookstore at the bar, at a table inside or out, or in a comfy arm chair. I started coming here in 2021 and would get there when it opened to sip coffee, read/write, do homework, and chat with the wonderful Liv. I couldn’t talk more highly of this place. Just be warned that your wallet might take a hit because of all the books you want to buy while you sip your drink.

  • Review 40 (2024-10-29 - Rating: 5)

The decor is beautiful and relaxed, and its nice to be able to browse books and have a drink (alcoholic or non)! They also have events like a real book club and it has a fun, friendly, community feel

  • Review 41 (2024-01-25 - Rating: 5)

This little bookstore is the ultimate den for a cozy evening read. Slide into a seat at the bar, order a drink, open up a book, and let the world melt away. Theres a good variety of drinks to choose from, including coffee, ciders, and cocktails. I ordered a cider, wanting a hot non-alcoholic drink, but they gave me the exact opposite. To be fair, I didnt specify. Anywho, the cider was pretty tame, but that was fine by me. Id like to try the espresso martini next time. In an ideal life, Id come here every night and make my way through the menu like I make my way through chapters in a book....slowly.

  • Review 42 (2024-02-16 - Rating: 5)

A wonderful little stop tucked away in the East Village, great for a relaxing stop to kill time, pass an afternoon with a good book on the back patio, or even bring a date. The cocktail menu is solid, the rosemary Paloma is a highlight. It shouldnt be a surprise that it gets crowded quickly, so its a roll of the dice if youre hoping to sit indoors or at the bar itself. The bookstore itself is small but has a wonderful selection of contemporary must reads and the classics. Ive been happy to make an excuse to stop here for a drink both times Ive been in the village this month, and thatll probably keep up because I love the excuse to buy a book and a cocktail when I can make it.

  • Review 43 (2024-03-09 - Rating: 5)

Service was great, drinks were good, staff was friendly and welcoming. It took us about an hour to get to the location lol and we would do it again. Definitely recommend going early to find a seat because seats are limited. Definitely a the best ambience to enjoy a good book. That’s coming from a person who doesn’t like reading!

  • Review 44 (2024-12-21 - Rating: 5)

Unique spot with super friendly and attentive bartenders!

  • Review 45 (2024-07-27 - Rating: 5)

Great drink selection, good outdoor AND indoor space, solid place to go catch up with friends and browse books.

  • Review 46 (2024-06-07 - Rating: 5)

Very cute! I especially enjoyed the live music

  • Review 47 (2024-12-09 - Rating: 5)

Cute space, loved how intimate the bar seats were and the selection of drinks they had. Prices were reasonable for the area and uniqueness of the bar. I do wish there was more seating since we had to sit outside (and you need to pay for books before reading them) but that’s also a reasonable ask, and the selection of books was good. Recommended!

  • Review 48 (2024-11-11 - Rating: 5)

Great place to buy a book and a drink! Quite a selection to choose from.

  • Review 49 (2023-11-26 - Rating: 5)

An amazing place in NYC, with a unique atmosphere. Liv is the most knowledgeable bookseller and warmest barista you’ll meet. Overall, a very nice place to hangout/read/study/work and have a wonderful time!! The coffee and book selection are great.

  • Review 50 (2024-05-28 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 51 (2023-01-02 - Rating: 5)

Wonderful bookstore, coffee shop, and wine bar combination that I will be visiting often.

  • Review 52 (2024-02-20 - Rating: 5)

A gift and a curse I dont live close enough to come here once a week! Book lovers will delight at the selection of literature and themed cocktails. They also host art workshops, trivia nights, and book club gatherings! Theres something for everyone here.

  • Review 53 (2024-10-19 - Rating: 4)

Cool vibe but there’s barely any seating and it’s always a bit stuffy inside

  • Review 54 (2024-06-16 - Rating: 5)

Great vibes. Super friendly bartenders. Cool music and youre able to chitchat but also able to just read if you want to. 10/10

  • Review 55 (2023-12-16 - Rating: 5)

I love this spot!!! The ambiance and vibes are 10/10 and I really enjoyed going solo to a creative writing workshop night, it’s a very warm and welcoming vibe. They’ve got cute Christmas decor at the moment and I always meet other bookish girlies when I go out here. Would absolutely recommend to any bookworm!

  • Review 56 (2024-03-11 - Rating: 5)

Great place to visit. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I totally recommend this place if you are in the area.

  • Review 57 (2024-07-15 - Rating: 5)

Such a cool New York experienceTheir book collection is unparalleled and I was able to find a book that only they stocked in all of the Eastern coast.

  • Review 58 (2023-05-25 - Rating: 5)

Book Club is every bibliophiles dream! Not only do they have a great selection of books but also amazing cocktails, wine, coffee, and espresso. The owners and staff are the nicest people, super knowledgeable, and always willing to give great recommendations for books or drinks. I hate that the location is far from my apartment but I dont mind the trek for the amazing service and hospitality!

  • Review 59 (2024-07-13 - Rating: 5)

The vibes here are upbeat yet cozy! great selection of books and lots of fun cocktails.

  • Review 60 (2023-08-28 - Rating: 5)

Book Club is a must if you’re a book lover like myself. It does get packed the later in the day you go. The bar and patio area out front had more seats than the cozier couch areas. There are books you can purchase and games you can play if you’re empty handed. It’s a great place to grab a drink and immerse yourself in a book or good company.

  • Review 61 (2023-07-28 - Rating: 5)

Why can’t LA have nice things like this? A perfect spot to kill some time before dinner as the sun is setting and you just want a quick break. A late night bar with coffee, beers, and bookshelves—I just can’t. The vibes here are great with both indoor and outdoor seating.

  • Review 62 (2023-06-13 - Rating: 5)

Stopped in to use the restroom but found that this place is a little gem!!! It’s a bookstore with a bar and even a little outdoor space in the back. Awesome selection of books, lots of lgbtq authors. Good vibes. Also has some events coming up. Had to run but looking forward to shopping and hanging out here next time I’m in the area.

  • Review 63 (2024-01-10 - Rating: 5)

Always such a chill time to unwind at Book Club! It’s really great being able to write or simply read - and be surrounded by fellow readers or creative souls clearly working on their own projects. There’s always people reading, either at the couches or at the bar.Definitely a reader paradise! Highly recommended. Also, worth checking out their events, as they have many going on throughout the month too!

  • Review 64 (2024-12-19 - Rating: 5)

Went here on a Saturday - around noon. The place is pretty nice though can get crowded during the afternoon. People come in to click photos/ grab videos so might be a little disturbing. They have a cute little outdoor area too.

  • Review 65 (2024-10-16 - Rating: 5)

Great spot for stepping away from everything. the space is very cozy, and they have a lot of drink options to choose from. The selection of books is great to browse through and buy!My only note is that it does get packed so you might have to wait a bit to find seating.

  • Review 66 (2023-02-14 - Rating: 5)

Cute and quiet spot to enjoy a cappuccino. The coffee is great and the shop has seating throughout to enjoy a peaceful moment ☕️

  • Review 67 (2024-06-20 - Rating: 5)

High energy bookstore/bar! I went for an evening authors’ chat for Chloe Caldwell + Lilly Dancyger, which was incredible. I would go back again if I’m in the area and try to experience it in the daytime! ☕️📖

  • Review 68 (2023-05-06 - Rating: 4)

The staff are super friendly and the coffee is delicious. Seating is limited. I sat at the bar for a few hours. It’s not too loud since most people wear headphones so it’s a great place to study or get some work done. The only down side and therefore 4 star instead of 5 star review is the lack of wifi!! Maybe they’re trying to encourage reading but…c’mon

  • Review 69 (2023-10-23 - Rating: 5)

Such a cool place. Bought a book and a latte. Super busy on a saturday. Played great music, chill seating outside. Good book selection. Would 100% recommend for any book lover.

  • Review 70 (2024-07-02 - Rating: 4)

Hadn’t been to Book Club Bar in a minute, but ended going there a few times relatively recently. there are outside seating options as a well seats at the bar and elsewhere inside. Book Club Bar is a bookstore + coffee shop + a bar for adult beverages. it’s pretty busy place. they have all sorts of programming events like readings, book club meetings etc. there’s definitely a lot of books to check out and buy—the book choices are certainly curated, so it’s not like this place is Barnes & Nobles with a vast variety of all types of books…had an Americano which was pretty good…and a drip coffee that hit the spot on a rainy day. the staff are pretty affable and chill. bc this is place is high traffic especially on nice days…getting a seat is pretty tough which why is I rarely stay. all in a good spot for book lovers and book lover wannabes who need caffeinated refreshments or adults beverages.

  • Review 73 (2023-07-29 - Rating: 5)

Gorgeous little book bar, my favourite kind. Small so can be a bit of a hunt for a seat but I love the atmosphere inside. Not pretentious and great to read/work- it’s the closest thing to European book bars in ny I think.

  • Review 74 (2022-01-17 - Rating: 5)

Went here on a random Sunday afternoon. Place is small but very nice. Part bookstore part Cafe, and after 7pm part bar. I walked in with my friend, we both bought match lattes which were delicious. Prices are about average for boutique coffee shops in East Village. Seating is minimal and tough to get but we waited for some chairs to open up and sitting in that Cafe was so relaxing. I loved it. Low music playing over the speakers that you can hear but isnt too distracting. You can talk to whoever you go with or I saw some others just reading or typing on their laptops. I am absolutely going back on my own.

  • Review 75 (2023-10-16 - Rating: 4)

Love their vibes and cocktails- Espresso Martini

  • Review 77 (2024-05-06 - Rating: 5)

Light alcohol and books. Daytime is a perfect study spot and in the evening, the librarians and historians have a place to go and converse. Perfect blend of both worlds.

  • Review 78 (2023-01-29 - Rating: 5)

A quiet, quiescent, cafe and reservoir for book-lovers (hence the name of the place).Comes with hot and cold beverages. Dwellers from copywriters to chit-chatters can do work and have a social hang. There are also poetry/writer events worth checking out. This is overall a great cozy hub for relaxation, verbal catchup, and sparking a unique time in the East Village.

  • Review 79 (2023-06-14 - Rating: 5)

I love this place so much! It’s a go to spot for me any time I’m in the east village. Day and night, it’s got great vibes, a super cool/friendly staff, and I recently discovered their espresso martini, which is SO GOOD. I definitely recommend!

  • Review 80 (2022-12-03 - Rating: 5)

Truly wish there was a way to give six stars. The owner of this place devoted her entire life to creating a welcoming bookstore for all people yet they are often overwhelmed by laptop zombies who just want to use the space all day. They don’t care that it’s a bookstore - they just want wifi and a free bathroom. Recently I saw one of them berate the employees like they were dirt. This place is great and I can’t wait to visit again

  • Review 81 (2023-12-23 - Rating: 5)

My favourite neighborhood cafe for a cozy romantic atmosphere! They offer not only a cafe menu but also beers and wines, and have fun funky music playing all day/night.With warm lighting, exposed brick, and tons of books for sale, the atmosphere makes you feel like you have been transported to a small old library.

  • Review 82 (2023-07-27 - Rating: 4)

Beautiful curated selection of books and drinks! The aesthetic of the whole place was a book lovers dream. The missing star was the attitude of the employees and their loud conversations about their dislike of certain customers. It was unprofessional.

  • Review 83 (2024-10-18 - Rating: 5)

Such a great spot to hangout and have a drink and read! Really warm and inviting atmosphere and so nice to see people sitting around reading. I like how they have staff book recommendations throughout the store! Really a gem.

This is one of my favorite spots to hang out in EV - it’s a beautiful atmosphere with a great book selection and tons of fun events!

  • Review 85 (2022-11-28 - Rating: 4)

I stopped in this small place on a late night. Its a hybrid place, with a bar serving alcohol and coffee in the front and a small bookstore in the back. There are a bunch of bookshelves with a number of popular books in a variety of genres. It seems like a cool place to hang out, though I didnt stay long.

  • Review 86 (2023-03-16 - Rating: 5)

Stumbled across this as we were walking home one night and we were drawn in by the warmth and sounds of the place. Didn’t stay too long as we were broken from a day of activity but loved the way they have integrated the multi-use space and the artist playing for the intimate crowd on the night was of a really high standard.

  • Review 87 (2023-03-19 - Rating: 4)

Curated aesthetic of a library/cafe. Very relaxed with considerable seating and work space. My only gripe is the loud music. The speakers blare over your head and require headphones as opposed to the natural noise level to better support the ideal working/studying/writing audience.

  • Review 88 (2023-03-31 - Rating: 5)

Super cozy book store + cafe, open till midnight!Bring your own book, or buy one of the many for sale.

  • Review 89 (2023-07-26 - Rating: 5)

Such an amazing and creative atmosphere. Any writers heading to NYC simply must spend a day in the Book Club with a coffee or a wine and a laptop (although theres a strict NO laptops after 6pm rule!). Even the bathrooms are a treat, covered in book pages. Located in the very cool East Village, this is a gem not to be missed

  • Review 90 (2020-09-01 - Rating: 5)

Really great spot, the kind where you know youre going to find a book you like. Not overwhelming in size, so its easy to digest. I often find a smaller bookstore helps hone your focus. Also a great place to spend time in a third space, even in the age of Covid-19. Thoughtfully made coffee (not an afterthought), or some beer and wine if youd like! Quaint corner of Alphabet City too. Whats not to like?

  • Review 91 (2021-03-22 - Rating: 5)

Great selection of books (and delicious teas among other drinks). I really love that both owners leave book recommendations around the bookstore. They have a fantastic childrens section as well as a NYC section in the back. Its a beautiful store with comfortable seating, a long bar with stools and a great vibe.

  • Review 92 (2019-11-24 - Rating: 5)

Owners are incredibly friendly and gracious. The space is a cozy escape with an impressive collection of books.

  • Review 93 (2023-02-05 - Rating: 5)

Awesome Cafe with a great book selection and featured reading. It doubles as a wine club in the evenings with book clubs meetings and other events. The outdoor patio is a bonus during warmer weather.

  • Review 94 (2023-10-16 - Rating: 5)

A great place for a book lover to come, peruse the shelves and find a great selection of books and have a drink. just know its not very big inside and tables fill up fast.

  • Review 95 (2023-09-09 - Rating: 5)

I have never seen a bar+ bookstore. Its amazing, they also have an outdoor. Would recommend this store.

  • Review 96 (2023-04-18 - Rating: 4)

Nice place to read and talk! Grear vibes. They have bathroom downstairs, but they dont have decaf coffee.

  • Review 97 (2024-08-18 - Rating: 5)

Lovely little bookstore. I loved seeing the customers reading at the bar. 🥰 The staff recommendations were also good and helped me pick out a book I enjoyed that I probably wouldn’t have chosen otherwise.

  • Review 98 (2022-04-18 - Rating: 5)

Lovely coffee shop full of books. Free wifi, but dont bring your laptop after 7pm and expect to get work done. They seve alcohol and the place becomes a very nice evening haunt for people who enjoy good conversations.

  • Review 99 (2024-07-27 - Rating: 5)

Super cute! good drinks and has outdoor seating in the front and back. decent book selection for it being a smaller place. Definitely can be more crowded though (I was there in the evening though)

  • Review 100 (2022-05-08 - Rating: 5)

This place is so lovely. So many seating options, comfortable space, clean and sufficient bathrooms, really kind staff, mostly chill patrons reading or quietly chatting. Books, obviously. Alcohol AND coffees. Its my dream place IN REALITY. I could live here (can I??).

  • Review 101 (2024-04-12 - Rating: 5)

Really cool spot. Book store with a bar. Great place to chill

  • Review 102 (2023-07-18 - Rating: 5)

Really cool book store with wine, coffee and cocktails.

  • Review 103 (2022-12-24 - Rating: 5)

Great vibe. They sell coffee, wine and beer. They sell books (but a curated selection); they have a section on new york topics. The bar is a little tall for me, but there are cosy sofas at the end

  • Review 104 (2021-12-12 - Rating: 5)

Great place to get work done and the staff is super friendly/great. Also, I will say that I love the whole No Laptops After 7 pm rule that they have. It makes for a really nice evening reading environment.

  • Review 105 (2024-10-24 - Rating: 5)

Cute! Bartender was very knowledgeable on wines. Doesnt smell like books though! Lol

  • Review 106 (2022-01-10 - Rating: 5)

An actual slice of paradise!! Coffee was good, beer & wine selection is plentiful, and they have all the newest reads in stock. Upon arriving we did scramble to find a place to sit, and we lucked out eventually. Their music is very loud but it could not have been more perfect. I really think I could spend an entire day there! The staff was also friendly! Love u guys omg

  • Review 107 (2022-10-03 - Rating: 5)

I never leave reviews but I have to give one for book club seeing some negative reviews from people thinking they shouldnt have to buy something... this place is a gem.c I love the tea selection and the staff is awesome- the blond bartender some have complained about in other reviews is actually hilarious & I swear shes read every book in the place and makes book recommendations. I was only going to buy 1 book and bought 3 based off our conversation. honestly the only bad thing about this place is some of the customers taking up a table on their laptop for hours.. while there I overheard 3 people who didnt order anything ask for the wifi password. ummmm TACKCY much?! if you dont want to buy anything and tip bar workers you probably should expect to get what you pay for (nothing)!

  • Review 108 (2023-01-04 - Rating: 5)

Its a vey cozy place to hang out with premium selection of books and IPAs , shame that they had to take off the wifi service, used to be my favorite hang out spot to get my work done, now I am primarily hanging out there for reading books and having good coffee ! wait a minute , may be thats the reason they had to cut the WiFi , lol.

  • Review 109 (2023-11-12 - Rating: 5)

Such a great spot to pop in to browse for a book or sit at the bar and read with a coffee. Love that the floor to ceiling windows open up entirely so it has a nice indoor/outdoor feel. It was a beautiful fall day so I enjoyed the crisp air coming in with the sunlight but was still warm enough to be comfortable. People watched, read my book, had a delicious latte, and settled in for a delightful afternoon. I will definitely be back.

  • Review 110 (2024-12-16 - Rating: 5)

Great atmosphere, always something going on at this place.

  • Review 113 (2023-12-05 - Rating: 4)

Really cute and cozy concept of a book store with full service bar. The drinks were just ok but the vibes were great. Service was also solid.

  • Review 114 (2023-12-29 - Rating: 5)

Love book club for the bookish atmosphere and chill attitude. Its a great place to land to work for a little bit during the week and relax a lot during the weekend. The baristas/bartenders have good soundtracks on too.

  • Review 119 (2023-11-16 - Rating: 5)

Love this place, we stopped in to look around and I can say without a doubt that Book Club did not disappoint! Great atmosphere, great books, great service :)

  • Review 120 (2023-05-08 - Rating: 4)

This place is incredible, but some fdback for the staff: the loud live vocalist musicians make it hard to read. Quiet instrumental music would be far easier to read to.

  • Review 121 (2021-09-10 - Rating: 5)

Love the vibe here! Very friendly bibliophiles as your baristas/bartenders, beautiful space, great collection of books and a nice variety of beverages. The ambience is perfect for a readers evening.

  • Review 123 (2023-08-28 - Rating: 5)

Cool place to read a book over a drink. Nice cocktails. Went for a literary trivia which was so fun. Entrance is a bit small and can be crowded when there’s an event on but it’s a fun place and had an outside area too!

  • Review 124 (2020-01-29 - Rating: 4)

Nice, quiet bookstore/bar. There wasnt a ton of seating but the vibe was great. Still waiting on their liquor license as of 1/25 but I had a hot chocolate and it was delicious. Nice selection of books, too!

  • Review 125 (2023-05-25 - Rating: 5)

Book Club is my favourite place to hang out with friends and make new ones. Awesome books, awesome staff, awesome drinks -- the new cocktail menu is fantastic as well

  • Review 126 (2022-11-07 - Rating: 5)

I cant speak for their cafe side of things but the bookstore area is cozy and welcomes browsing.

  • Review 127 (2021-10-11 - Rating: 5)

I love the entire vibe of this place -- cozy books, cozy bar, cozy armchairs. I was here for several hours around 9pm on Sunday night, and it was the perfect balance of happening but not crowded. They have a really nice drink selection, and a great book selection. And I loved the candles everywhere -- they definitely contribute to the cozy, welcoming, intellectual feel!

  • Review 128 (2023-06-14 - Rating: 5)

Good vibes, classic drip coffee, walked into a speakeasy unintentionally and loved it. Would highly recommend for vibes, but cannot vouch for menu.

Absolutely loved it. Great book selection, great drinks, impeccable vibe for reading or writing. PLEASE open a second location at the closed Café Grumpy on 20th between 7th and 8th. The space is perfect for it 🙏🙏

  • Review 132 (2022-06-11 - Rating: 5)

Diverse and mindful book selection, solid coffee, fair prices, strong internet, good bathrooms. If you’re looking to get work done, be aware that tables and seating are limited (20-25 *friendly* people max inside).

  • Review 133 (2023-01-08 - Rating: 4)

This book store doubles as a bar, which is a lovely concept—particularly for the kind of people who like to read alone at a bar. Although I felt that the music was too loud to get any reading done. The book selection covers most contemporary fiction and new releases (the staff recs made me laugh). They offer a rewards program for returning customers. There is very limited seating indoors, but more seats out in a back patio. Unfortunately I wasnt able to grab a seat in the whole hour I spent here, so I ended up not ordering a drink like Id wanted to. I do think this stores concept is great and with some tweaks, it could be a wonderful experience. Be aware that no laptops are allowed past 7 PM if this is an issue for you.

  • Review 134 (2024-07-10 - Rating: 5)

What a lovely place. I dont drink booze or coffee, so I got a soda and only stayed an hour since I didnt buy much. But none of the staff gave me any mean looks to rush me 😅. What a warm place to visit. Nice staff, respectful patrons. See you next time 💚

There’s a lovely parklet out front and a wonderful back garden. The book selection is curated and the space is easy to browse while staying socially distant. Books, Beer, wine, coffee... basically all you need to be happy! They also have a restroom 👍Can’t wait to come back.

If I died and this was my heaven, I would be satisfied. Scone was a little chewy, but generally speaking, they have it all. Books. coffee, wine, and a patio. Despite its potential for high-brow mentality, not a condescending vibe to be found.

What a fun place to visit in the East Village! They offer coffee based drinks as well as alcohol. On their website the alcohol drinks have clever names based on books, they werent posted as such at the bar. Look them up on their website if interested.Sit a bit, have a drink, have a snack, enjoy the vibe and certainly check out the books. Great selection for a smaller shop. They also have socks, bags, etc. I left with 3 books and a smile on my face. Highly recommend!
