Been meaning to come here for a while. Lovely place, pool tables, ping pong, shuffle board, chess, you name it. Great place to go with friends! The manager was amazing and very friendly. Can’t forget about the jazz as well, they only play the best musicians. The cover is $10 to get in!I would get on the waitlist immediately when u get in for pool! -
Review 2 (2024-09-11 - Rating: 5)
This is a gritty and fun underground pool hall with lots of games and unique beer on tap. Pool is by the minute, which is great if you just want to stop in and play a quick game. Bartender was super friendly and the game master was helpful with the details. -
Review 3 (2024-10-26 - Rating: 5)
No reservations needed. $10 entrance fee. Fantastic bar to go listen Jazz musicians. Good beer at a fair price. Lots of people inside listening to music and playing board games. Worth visiting while in New York. -

Wow, what a vibe! Such a great hang and really awesome to see fabulous jazz music happening in a cool hangout spot like this. Pretzel 🥨 was huge and delicious. Not cheap, but was the best I could find my whole trip actually Lol. -
Review 5 (2024-11-19 - Rating: 5)

Review 6 (2021-11-21 - Rating: 5)
Great selection of drinks and games (pool, table tennis, shuffle board, card games, chess, etc.) to play. Live jazz music always helps the mood too! Make sure to arrive early though otherwise you’ll get stuck in a major long line to get in. Also ensure you have your vaccination card handy! There is a cover charge to get in. -
Review 7 (2024-02-24 - Rating: 5)
A hidden GEM!!!! Truly the best place to hang out in nyc. Definitely would love to see more women jazz/POC jazz. A Photo Booth would be a cherry on top. Would be back over and over again. -
Review 8 (2024-12-24 - Rating: 4)
It was fine but they kicked us off a pool table mid game with a one minute heads up which wasn’t cool. It’s pretty cheap -
Review 9 (2024-12-10 - Rating: 5)
Not much in terms of food except for meat patty’s, nachos and a giant pretzel but all were delicious (especially the nachos). But don’t come here for the food, come for the great games and most importantly (to me and my partner) the music. It was great just to vibe and have our ciders listening to the jazz and makes us want to listen more of the genre. Also very spacious -
Review 10 (2024-07-09 - Rating: 5)
Play hall, went there on a monday night, 5$ cover charge, played suffleboard. fellt like it is not really well maintained, restrooms and tables were all dirty and sticky.. also the floor.. -
Review 11 (2023-10-20 - Rating: 5)
Great musicians to listen to and you dont have to be seated! Table tennis, shuffleboard, and billiards tables in great shape! -
Review 12 (2024-02-05 - Rating: 5)
Easily the best hidden gem in NYC! Nightly live jazz, plenty of pool, ping pong and shuffleboard tables as well as other games. The staff is great and the vibes are immaculate. Can’t wait to go back ASAP! -
Review 13 (2024-07-19 - Rating: 4)
Genuinely a bar that has it all. The atmosphere was extremely welcoming and the live music was great. -
Review 14 (2022-11-18 - Rating: 5)
Great variety of beers, a lot of games, not expensive.5 out of 5, really cool. -
Review 15 (2023-09-17 - Rating: 4)
Always a fun place to go with a group of friends. They have pool tables, shuffle board, foosball and ping pong. Every now and then we encounter some live music which is always awesome. Beer selection is decent. Lighting could use some work but not a dealbreaker I’m just picky about those things. -
Review 16 (2024-10-12 - Rating: 5)
Love this place. Good jazz, fun games, great ppl -
Review 17 (2022-09-03 - Rating: 4)
Got stuck in the rain and tried this place out. Place was cool with a very rustic vibe to it. The jazz band was awesome which is why I gave 4 stars.Small selection of beers and no cocktails. Seating was very limited near the band. $10 cover just to entered was weird but I assumed it was to pay the band (or at least that’s what I hoped). Billiards was pretty standard. It’s a nice, laid back spot and prices are fair. -
Review 18 (2022-02-08 - Rating: 5)
I used to come here after work once in a while, when I worked across the street from this place. I recently came back after 3 years and the place hasnt change, I still had a great time with my Sis. Highly recommended! -
Review 19 (2023-06-06 - Rating: 5)
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Cellar Dog and it completely exceeded my expectations. From the moment I stepped through the doors, I was enveloped in the Jazz music coming from deeper inside, the bustling crowd having fun playing all sorts of games from pool the shuffleboard... an atmosphere that radiated fun and sheer joy. The vibrant and thoughtfully designed décor creates an ambiance that is both captivating and comfortable. The lighting is expertly crafted, it really sets the vibe and mood. Although I wish they had liquor at this venue, Zack the bartender really took care of me. He always had my beers ready whenever I was walking towards to bar, If you are reading this you rock my man!Thank You for taking care of my friends and I. We will definitely be going back especially since summer is basically right around the corner! Cheers -
Review 20 (2024-12-12 - Rating: 4)
Its gritty, its dingy, there are odd smells, its NYC. Fun place to play casual games of pool, ping pong, and table top games. Theres live music, beer and wine and lots of seating. Used to be called fat cat back in the day, but nothing about this place has changed, nor should it. -
Review 21 (2024-01-21 - Rating: 5)
5 stars across the board cos they let my dog enjoy jazz while I play pool -
Review 22 (2023-01-16 - Rating: 5)
Always a fun place. Arrive early enough and catch the live jazz. Have a shot of soju (Jinro 24). Play some games. Chill. -
Review 23 (2023-09-29 - Rating: 5)
No noticeable changes from when it was Fat Cat. Same fun games, same live music, same general crowd - overall remained an awesome hangout spots for groups in the West Village.Prices are a tad steep, but nothing too terribly bad. -
Review 24 (2023-02-25 - Rating: 5)
Really nice live jazz music for $10 which is very reasonable for live band. There’s also a ton of games if you want to do something vs just sitting and listening. Also plenty of drink options (no hard liquor). -
Review 25 (2023-02-06 - Rating: 5)
Best bar ever!Great music, great games, amazing beer!!Even have non-alcoholic IPA, perfect -
Review 26 (2024-01-21 - Rating: 4)
Imo the best place to hear some jazz and shoot pools and hang out. Wonderful vibe. The prices have gone up since the fat cat days but its still worth it. -
Review 27 (2023-02-23 - Rating: 5)
Super fun place to hangout, I definitely see myself coming back.Underground spacious venue, with many seating options , bar, pool table and many other games.I went there for the live jazz and grab a drink. Its suitable for groups or couples.Line one subway is next door making it convenient commute. -
Review 28 (2024-07-14 - Rating: 5)
Great place with live jazz and a lot of pool tables. -
Review 29 (2021-07-08 - Rating: 5)
Honestly loved this place. Same great vibe as fat cat with maybe a little better music. Constant live jazz bands while you’re playing pool, shuffleboard, ping pong or cards is such a fun ambience. My only critique is they might need a few more bartenders. Otherwise the $5 cover is really not that bad. -
Review 30 (2024-11-20 - Rating: 4)
They didnt have food on the premises. You can order food to come in. Its a nice place to have some safe fun. I wish I was there when they had a live band. -
Review 31 (2024-02-03 - Rating: 5)
Amazing staff, attentive bartenders, and accomodating management. Love the live jazz music and different entertainment choices like pool, ping pong, foosball, and shuffleboard! -
Review 32 (2022-04-10 - Rating: 5)
I’m glad you guys kept the establishment the same. One difference I noticed was a security guard who was always on the floor. One thing I wish you guys would fix is the sound system for the singers, seems like they kept the same old sound system. When the musicians get on the mic and try to sing it’s pretty much pointless because we cannot hear anything and it’s not because it’s too loud it’s just the sound system has to go.Frida and Saturday if you get there before 8pm you’ll be able to find an easy game table. Gets crowded after 9pm.Also, try to get in like for a game 30 minutes before your other game runs out so the wait is not too crazy.Overall, I’m glad it was reopened. The vibe is super nice and chill.Keep up the good work 👍🏼I recommend 100%Also, if anyone else knows any similar places post it up on a review (Sharing is caring)😬Always looking for cool places like CellarDog 🔥 -
Review 33 (2024-09-15 - Rating: 5)
The place was crazy, crowded. Live Jazz music and every corner. You could see the games you want to choose. We didnt got a chance to play, but the vibe was amazing. I felt like a dog in his house. I would recommend to go early to get a game. Its best to go with friends like I did. -
Review 34 (2022-07-17 - Rating: 4)
Been here several times. Most nights live music. Lots of game tables: pool, ping-pong etc. no liquor license, so beer and wine only. They’ve got some siders. I think most of the wines are so so. They have soju(Korean style rice wine). They charge by the minute for the games, so an evening of playing ping-pong with your friends could probably rack up pretty quick. It won’t be boring though! -
Review 35 (2022-11-05 - Rating: 4)
This is a cool, low-key jazz spot. The band was great! Including a trumpeter that sings, love that. Go on a weeknight so that the cover charge is $5 instead of $10 on weekends. They have tons of games, but they unfortunately cost $8 per person per hour. Kind of a bummer. Overall, really hip jazz bar. Definitely recommend! -
Review 36 (2024-10-18 - Rating: 4)
A good selection of drinks and a fun place to hang. It can be a little loud for my tastes but great selection of games to get together and play over a few beers. -
Review 37 (2023-05-14 - Rating: 4)
It’s a fun place for hanging out with friends -
Review 38 (2021-08-08 - Rating: 5)
Been going here for 15 years when it was Fat Cat. Glad to see its reopened essentially unchanged but with a higher cover charge ($10, I remember when it was $2!). Still one of the most unique and affordable.fun spots in the city. So many good memories. Dont underestimate the jazz. -
Review 39 (2023-11-18 - Rating: 5)
Some of the baddest musicians are playing in a no frills, loud as all get out hangout. It is truly one of a kind environment. -
Review 40 (2024-10-31 - Rating: 5)
Good music, good quality pools and nice stuff -
Review 41 (2023-07-03 - Rating: 5)
Fun place to hang out! They have pool tables, shuffle boards, and ping pong tables. The wait wasn’t too bad on a Friday night. -
Review 42 (2024-08-19 - Rating: 4)
Funky hang out spot with a large, open-space filled with activities such as billiards, fuzball, pingpong which along with occasional live music and quick bar service (Albeit with limited selection and not a large portion of food to choose from) come together for a great place to host a work/group event. $8 a drink. 4/5 stars as a night spot. -
Review 43 (2021-10-01 - Rating: 5)
Was nice to revisit, we use to go when it was called Fat Cats. Jazz was nice and enjoyable. We will surely go again. Highly recommended for a first date and/or with a group of friends and you cant beat the price. -

Review 56 (2022-08-07 - Rating: 5)
Vibe reminded me of an after school hangout from Saved By The Bell or Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, except they also had a bar, and live music (explains the cover fee). Its cozy if you wanna just chat or play some stuff games like ping pong or billiards while listening to live performances and sipping a nice cold one. -

For those that love games this is the place to go. Full gamut of opportunities. We went on a relatively busy Saturday night and didn’t really wait at all (not sure if that’s the exception to the rule though). -
Review 59 (2022-11-09 - Rating: 4)
Lots of stuff to do and something for everyone. Even on a weeknight you can expect a cover. $5 on weeknight or $10 on weekend. The jazz band is really cool, very low key and chill vibes. Great place to hang and pass time in the area. -

Review 79 (2022-04-28 - Rating: 5)
Besides the name and some of the prices, the place is exactly the same. Might not be fat cat by name but besides the decor, it’s fat cat which I’m glad the atmosphere is still there. Good selection of beers including locals like the Bronx Brewery on tap. -

Cellar Dog is everything thats great about a NYC bar. Live jazz playing as you walk in, plenty of spots to sit and hang out, and lots of fun games to play to keep you entertained. Theres something for everyone at this spot, and its great for a group of friends. Even better is that the prices are much lower than your typical West Village bar. Theres usually a $5 or $10 cover depending on the night, but definitely worth it. -

Classic spot in the West Village with a dive atmosphere-great for what its offering-no frills. Lots of space for groups. Crowd tends to be younger/college aged, but inclusive to all. Many ping pong and billard tables with cash/card rental. No reservations needed. No cover when we arrived or wait. Basic beer menu and bar selections. -

Review 101 (2023-08-14 - Rating: 5)
Fantastic! A low-key and chill place with a whole bunch of fun activities, like shuffleboard, billiards, and foosball. Theres an entrance fee of $5, and the games cost money to play, but the price is more than fair. The bar is alright and sells wine and beer (only). We met some really great people during our visit! The only downside is that the place closes pretty early. -
Review 102 (2024-01-10 - Rating: 5)
It is a very interesting place to play and have a few beers and listen to music and have a pleasant time. -
Review 103 (2023-10-19 - Rating: 5)
A delightful snakepit. Youll fight for chairs and tables but the music was exquisite when I visited. Barely noticed the cut dripping blood into my eye. Clean lines, tons of games, though theyll charge five bucks for a deck of cards which, will never feel uncriminal. -
Review 104 (2023-06-13 - Rating: 5)
Great place to hang out with friends! There’s live jazz and a ton of games- pool tables, shuffle board, chess, ping pong, etc. Only $10 cover charge for live Jazz and fun atmosphere! The bartenders and staff are great. Will definitely be my go to spot going forward. -

Review 107 (2023-05-10 - Rating: 5)
Only place I know that has billiards, ping pong, shuffle board and board games with live music. Music is always jazz and they have a great beer selection. They just recently got new ping pong paddles. The playable area for the tables is a bit cramped so don’t expect much in terms of movable freedom. Place gets packed after 9:00pm and they have a weekend cover for $10 cash or credit. Place is always a go to. -
Review 108 (2023-10-07 - Rating: 4)
Came here for pool and beer and left feeling good despite losing :) A great underground spot to find your next pool matchup, ping pong partner, and they even had live jazz music which was quite charming given the attentive audience! -

The prices for games are craaazyyy but good music -
Review 110 (2023-04-09 - Rating: 5)
Really cool place. Super fun and nice staff. I want to highlight the doorman, though. I came in on Saturday night, 4/8/23, with a big, confused group, and he was extremely kind and helpful. It actually set the tone for the evening there -
Review 111 (2022-10-21 - Rating: 5)
Ive been going since high school and the vibe has always been the same. Fun spot to hang with friends or an early date. It gets very crowded at popular times, so try to start the night here so you can get a table without much fuss. The music is also fantastic and makes it standout from other bars - definitely check it out. -

Great place. The live jazz band is good, but ultra loud - could be nice if they put some sound absorption panels on the wall behind them and ceiling over them. -

Live music with a good atmosphere. There are games that you can rent and take some drinks at the place. Pretty neat place. -

I used to come to the Fat Cat back in the day and loved it. When I heard that they closed but were re-opening under new management, I did not know what to expect. But I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. It got a complete upgrade from the space to the vibe and music. It is amazing and the staff is unbelievable! This will continue to be my West Village hangout to grab beers and shoot some pool with my friends. -

Formerly known as The Fat Cat, Cellar Dog is my favorite bar in New York. Super fun, super lively, great music and affordable drinks. Absolute must when you’re in New York - even better with their live jazz on! Do make sure you get tickets for the games as soon as you arrive bc the waiting line is enormous. -

Great bar with very good vibes. There’s a $10 cover on weekends ($5 on weekdays) which is well worth it in my opinion for the live jazz music that plays. You get a stamp on your hand so if you want to hit up another bar and come back later you can. They’re a bit limited when it comes to drinks which doesn’t bother me but if you’re looking for specialty cocktails this isn’t the place for you. Great place to come and enjoy the music while playing a board game or some pool. Definitely recommend! -

Perfectly divey spot where some of the best jazz musicians play to a raucous crowd playing table sports! -

If you go to NYU/Cooper/FIT.. Then you probably frequent this spot. That, ladies and gentlemen, says it all.I will say though, they have an exceptional set of live jazz performances. And its cute that youre able to enjoy very fun, intimate games like connect four, chess, ping pong, or even games like shuffle board?? -

I come early to assure I can have a pool table to play on. Great price to use the pool tables. I just wish they would spend just a tiny bit of money to get better pool sticks. 70% of the pool sticks are unusable. Some of the tables are falling apart as well. The Jazz is a nice . Drinks a little pricey. Crowd has a college vibe to it. Wednesday and Thursday are my favorite days to go. -

Heard about this place as someone’s “hidden gem” of NYC and I totally get why. It’s in a nice location, it looks really cool inside, and they’ve got a good selection of games to play. They also have live music sometimes, but I had to leave a bit before that day’s band performed. -

The old Fat Cat is back!!! but its now spelled Cellar Dog. Was so happy to find out yesterday that apart from the name change everything is EXACTLY the same as it was. The jazz, the church benches, the pong the pool the shuffle the chess, what a delight that its all still there, just a new layer of paint and some much needed upgrading was done during corona. I heard the late night jams will be brought back as well. amazing! highly recommend. -

I use to go to Fat Cat all the time, not much changed since this place is called Cellar Dog except for cleaner bathrooms and easier access to the bar and games. -
Review 153 (2021-07-24 - Rating: 4)
Fun bar, it took me back to University. Sticky floors, smell of beer everywhere, messy bathrooms. But lots of fun! Good beer, live music and fun games make it a really fun place. -
