Chi was an excellent choice in the Hudson yards area to grab dinner. We snagged a reservation about an hour before we went which I recommend. The restaurant was packed and for good reason. We started out with the pork soup dumplings, they were phenomenal! The broth was excellent and the dumplings held their form. For entrees we had the sesame chicken and the spicy garlic pork, both were excellent. The portions are the perfect size for individuals. We got a side of jasmine rice to split and that was delicious as well. Overall an excellent Chinese restaurant with great food and great service. -

This place was fantastic. I got shredded pork with spicy garlic sauce and it wasn’t too spicy, very delicious with rice. The desserts were such a surprise, of course they were delicious but the presentation was beautiful. Our server was Sam and he was very nice and accommodating. I would definitely come back again! -

Update: Visited again to try their other dishes. The mala trio provided a nice variety of duck, chicken, and cucumber with a mild mala flavor. The wok fried cabbage with pork had a nice charred flavor. I loved the crispy shrimp balls which were decently size shrimp in a fried batter, sticky sweet sauce, and fried pieces of potato confetti without being too greasy. Everything from the dishes to the drinks came out in fancy plating, which elevated the experience. The waitresses were super friendly and checked in with us very often. It was unfortunate that the bartender wasn’t available this visit since my partner wanted to try some other cocktails. We will be visiting frequently.Original review: All the food was amazing and exceeded my expectations. The braised pork belly would have been perfect if you could order some bao buns to eat with it. The mala beef jerky was the perfect balance between spiciness and mala. The jasmine tea was the best I’ve ever had and the pot is bigger than most other restaurants. The soup dumplings were delicious but not the best I’ve ever had. This is a weird thing to mention but the jasmine rice was okay - it was lukewarm and didn’t have the fragrance of jasmine I’m used to. The service was great until the end when I think they forgot about us and it took a while to order dessert, but we weren’t in a rush. Overall, I’d definitely come back to try out their other dishes. -

I’m so glad that I found this restaurant. The lobster with salted egg yolk sauce is delicious. I’ve never had this style of lobster before. That was a good choice I made. The eggplant is also really good. I will definitely come back here with my friends so I can try more dishes since there are so many interesting dishes that I’ve never had before. The service was excellent. The atmosphere is nice and elegant. If you’re near the Hudson yard, you must try this restaurant. -

Great food and spacious interior, it can get a bit crowded at times but we managed to walk in despite a surprisingly crowded Tuesday night. Spice levels are very satisfying and they don’t shy away from numbing spice. Definitely a great find for Szechuan cuisine in Manhattan! -

Nice vibe, good service and yummy food!I came here for dinner last week with friends and we had a good time and enjoyed our meal.Love the ambience, comfortable seatings and food was delicious!Very nice presentation on the Secret of the Pyramid (金字塔的秘密) - fancy name on this tasty Braised Pork Belly dish -
Review 7 (2024-09-19 - Rating: 4)
Service and atmosphere was good, but I found the food to be lacking. The Peking duck dish portion was small and expensive. And I felt like the other dishes didn’t have a strong enough flavor like usual Sichuan food. Braised pork belly was good though -
Review 8 (2024-12-10 - Rating: 5)
It was my wife birthday we went there and it was the best Chinese cuisine I’ve ever been to. We tried a few foods all of them were delicious -
Review 9 (2024-10-31 - Rating: 5)
The presentation is amazing and the food is all flavorful and authentic. The cucumber salad is a good level of vinegar and spice. The drinks are very good - recommend the golden flora before it runs out and the daisy. The tofu and mala beef in broth is very delicious. -

Review 13 (2024-09-25 - Rating: 5)
I decided to eat here by myself while in NYC. What an absolute treat it was. The restaurant is beautiful. My waitress was kind and attentive, answering all of my questions about what dishes other tables ordered. The presentation of every drink and meal in the whole restaurant were clearly designed to be awe-inspiring. When I spend money at this price point, I always hope my experience will be like what Chi Restaurant and Bar provided me today.First, I ordered the Dragon Paradise cocktail. It is described as having tea, rum, pandan, coconut, yogurt, dairy, and citrus. To me, it tastes like a creamy piña colada with tea in it. It was trippy because the drink is actually see-through but it tastes like it would be a creamy white color. I enjoyed it!Then, I ordered a Szechuan Cucumber Salad as an appetizer and it was so flavorful. It was salty, vinegary, spicy, and more. I honestly would say if you come here, you have to try it. Its that good.My entree was the Truffle Beef Tenderloin, which again, came out with amazing presentation and was so full of flavor. The mushrooms and beef were all coated in a caramelized layer of sweet and salty. There were just enough diced peppers in the dish to keep a welcome spiciness in each bite.I then had fried pumpkin rice cakes and a separate vanilla gelato scoop dessert, which I ate together making the perfect mix of flavors for me.Great meal. Great experience. -

Chinese restaurants are in abundance in NYC, even outside of Chinatown. We stopped to dine at this restaurant due to its menu options, and interior ambience. And this place exceeded expectations from both perspectives.Menu features traditional Sichuan/Hunan spicy dishes, as well as the more familiar Chinese American creations. A small selection of Dim Sums is also available as well. I believe they do take reservation, as it tends to be crowded during peak hours and weekends. Service was good, and pricing is fair in NYC. -
Review 15 (2024-08-01 - Rating: 5)
We took a chance and walked in on Monday night at 7pm. Ambiance was nice and spacious. The host and staff was very attentive. Great customer service. I would recommend the cucumber salad and the truffle tenderloin. We also had the shrimp with the salted egg yoke but the truffle tenderloin was our favorite. I had a lychee martini that wasn’t on the menu and it was fabulous! So if you want a cocktail not on the menu, just ask! Would def come back. -
Review 16 (2024-05-28 - Rating: 5)
Authentic Chinese food. A must-try is the garlic eggplant, which was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The jasmine tea was delightful, complementing the meal wonderfully. The fish fillet in red chili broth was a standout dish, offering a perfect balance of spice and tenderness. The pork-shrimp soup dumplings were also delicious, with a rich, savory filling that left a lasting impression. Overall, it was an amazing dining experience, with each dish showcasing the authenticity and depth of Chinese cuisine. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy genuine and well-prepared Chinese food. -

There’s a reason we’ve been coming here three weekends in a row, taking family and friends. Their flavor is consistently on point, savory but not too salty. Spicy dishes are pleasantly balanced. Ingredients are fresh.Sweet staff. Ambient is chill and family friendly. Restroom is clean. -

It was difficult to choose what to order because everything looked so delicious. We finally went for lo mein beef noodles and beef tenderloin. Hands down best in NY. We’re already thinking about what to order next time we’re here - and the time after that. -

Review 26 (2024-09-01 - Rating: 5)
This restaurant excels in its dishes, ambiance, and service – a perfect choice for casual gatherings with family and friends, as well as hosting guests or banquets. The exterior of the restaurant may not catch your eye, but the interior is incredibly spacious, tastefully decorated, and the seating is well-distanced, creating a quiet and conducive environment for conversations. The menu offers a diverse range of styles, with both Sichuan and Shanghai cuisines standing out, and the cost-effectiveness is commendable. -
Review 27 (2024-07-18 - Rating: 5)
Excellent Chinese, and, in particular, Szechuan cuisine. Very nice atmosphere. Excellent Fish Fillet in Red Chili Broth (Black Fish). Also a superb Truffle Crispy Eggplant. I normally do not like eggplant, but this version is crispy and caramelized and a real treat. Not only that, but they have great desserts here too. The Pyramid (Chocolate Mousse) is not your typical chocolate mousse. It is also definitely worth the calories.7/24. Another great meal here. Attentive service. -
Review 28 (2024-04-07 - Rating: 5)
Visiting NYC and had a great experience here! Stumbled upon this spot when we were looking to have lunch. As a vegetarian they were very accommodating and the food was so delicious that we came back another time for dinner. Definitely try their Dan Dan noodles, scallion pancakes, dumplings, and the Golden Dragon drink. -

They got some decent Chinese food here! They have a variety of options for both panda express fans and more authentic foodies. I would recommend the dishes we had and depicted below. Spicy Trio, Spicy Cumin Lamb, and Mapo Tofu. All were quite good and only mildly mala spicy. Price per person for everything split between 2 people after tax and tip was $44. They also give a free soda/cucumber salad if you show you wrote a review. Go here! -
Review 32 (2023-07-09 - Rating: 5)
What a great experience here! This is an exceptional 5 star restaurant. From the moment you walk in, the decor is beautiful. Everything we tried was delicious. Some dishes are spicy like the fish (this is Szechwan Chinese after all), but it is a good balance and not overwhelming.I would really recommend some items that you might not try normally such as the mashed eggplant with garlic and cucumber salad. Unreal! Clearly they put a lot of consideration into the flavors and textures. Great food, service and experience! We will be back! -

Nice location very close to Hudson Yard. The waiters are very nice and knowledgeable. Have something for everyone. Recommend the food we ordered if you eat spicy. The mock tail also tastes yummy. 5 start for food and for the servers. -
Review 35 (2024-12-05 - Rating: 5)
On a Wednesday evening, the restaurant was full, although they found a place for us. We ordered spicy lamb with cumin and three types of dumplings. They cooked the lamb not too spicy at our request. The meat was thinly sliced, very tender and aromatic. The bright green vegetable steamed dumplings with mushrooms confused me a little with their rich color, but they turned out to be delicious. We also tried steamed and fried dumplings with pork. Both of them were tasty and aromatic. There was almost too much food. The service is very good, the waiters are attentive, they pour you water as soon as you take a sip from the glass, they periodically come up and ask if you need anything else. The price is moderate. -

What a great addition to the Chinese food scene. One of the best Chinese meals Ive had outside a Chinatown. I could eat here every week. Try the spicy Cucumber, the mashed eggplant and the cumin lamb. Theres an interesting drink menu as well. Prices are reasonable. Space is large and modern. So happy its not far from where I live. Looking forward to trying some other dishes. So hard to choose. -

Where modern vibes meet next-level Asian fusion. The dim sum is a revelation, the cocktails are dangerously good, and the ambiance screams NYC chic. Pricey? Sure, but your taste buds won’t care. Pro tip: come hungry and leave room for the dessert bao. -

Review 42 (2023-08-25 - Rating: 5)
Excellent Szechuan food served in a modern setting. With the recent wave of restaurant openings, I’ve become skeptical of the quality and thought put into new places, especially on the crowded field of Szechuan restaurants in NY—Chi Restaurant exceeds expectations and I’ll be returning for more meals in the future. Our group had several favorite dishes. For appetizers: the dan dan noodles had a hearty, umami-rich flavor and the chili oil wontons were plump and juicy. The cumin lamb was amazingly tender and a standout in terms of presentation. For some interesting dishes, I liked the spicy crispy beef and shimeji mushrooms with salted egg yolk. Both dishes are great if you have a craving for savory, crunchy food. Overall there were no bad dishes in our meal.As we had a fairly large party (10 people), we were offered a private room. Sometimes I dislike booking private rooms as it’s hard to flag down a server, but we received extremely attentive service from staff delivering food, cleaning up dishes between courses, and taking drink orders through the night. -

TLDR: New popular Sichuan restaurant near Hudson Yards and below Hells Kitchen. Cool story, a doctor by day and chef by night. Excellent cocktails and a wide variety of food. Fish fillet with chilis was super pretty, the mushrooms with salted egg yolk are addicting and the mala trio is a great way to start!Tried this with a friend and overall pretty tasty. Nice cocktail program with a solid happy hour deal too. We tried the mala trio which was a nice appetizxer dish with three different mala bites. The fish fillets was chopped chilis was a super pretty dish. Double cooked pork was excellent, chongqing chicken was spicy. The mushrooms tossed in salted duck egg yolk was very enjoyable to much on. The dan dan noodle was probably more than we needed but nonetheless, any meal with a mouthful of noodles is happiness.I havent been back since but I definitely will be. Its gotten much more busy since I came but thats always a good sign. -

Review 51 (2023-08-19 - Rating: 4)
A great experience. Good is outstanding and while Szechuan food is typically spicy, here they take it more to a mild way of preparation. The atmosphere is classy,l and new with good service. The meal was brought out with great attention to presentation and the mix of flavors done just right.A surprise in the middle of the lower west side. Recommend stopping here for Szechuan food (especially for those new to this type of Chinese cuisine. -
Review 52 (2024-10-18 - Rating: 5)
A modern Sichuan spot that stays busy even on a weeknight, so definitely best to reserve ahead. The menu delivers hits and occasional misses: the Boneless Pork Trotter and Birds of a Feather 毛血旺 were spicy yet well-balanced in flavor, though the string beans lacked seasoning, and the appetizer Trio was underwhelming. Overall, it was still a satisfying meal with attentive service throughout. -
Review 53 (2024-09-27 - Rating: 5)
Really, really tasty Sczechuan food in a cute little spot. Amazing tea cocktails, good dim sum, and delicious food. The spice wasnt quite that hot but their chili oil was delicious.Only miss was that we ordered a pot of tea and it never arrived. At least they took it off the bill with an apology.Would gladly go back! -
Review 54 (2022-11-09 - Rating: 5)
We were very happy with our dinner at Chi.Service was excellent, the decor of the restaurant is modern, clean and the music gave the whole place a very pleasant vibe. The food was excellent - everything we had was great, from the appetizers to the main course and the desert. The biggest surprise was the chocolate soufle. It was just the right amount of sweet, dense and had a nice texture.Would definitely come back. -

Wandered in here after a movie thinking to grab some quick food, and it was a great decision. Absolutely delicious gourmet chinese. I had the garlic shrimp w carrots & celery and slurped down every last piece of garlic 😭 The ambience was excellent and the wait staff were friendly considering we had no reservation. The only catch was the hostess who was just a bit nasty and tried to seat us by the door 😅 but i dont blame her, she was probably just like why r u here w no res at 730pm on a saturday. -

We brought my mom to visit Time Square and Chi is located in the neighborhoodso we decided to give it a try as lunch.Their cocktails looked really beautiful with smooth taste and it perfectly went with the food. Okra Salad was light and appetizing with great amount. We had their Brasied Tofu with Crab Paste, Boneless Pork Trotters, Shimeji Mushroom with Salted Egg and Chi’s Beef Pot.Chi’s Beef Pot was one of their signature dishes. It was served with a dramatic show including pouring alcohol and heating up to melt the cheese. It was extremely cheesy with fries, beef and pickles. -

We actually just googled this place on Maps. Came up and we looked at the recent reviews, we were half a mile out so we walked over and so the little line up, restaurant was full at 8pm and thought the vide was cool, left our name at the front desk and 20 minutes later we were seated. Good was really good, spice level on par and service was even better, would recommend and go back often. -

The space is very modern and sleek. the waiters were quite attentive as well. and of course the food was good.the chongqing spicy chicken was decently spicy and had a nice crunch. sometimes there were small bones in the pieces though which was odd. the pork soup dumplings were good. the truffle fried rice yang chow style was flavorful and had lots of meats. the mashed eggplant was a little salty but tender. -

As an ABC expat in Shanghai, this Chinese restaurant is legit. Kills the competition in food and vibe/cleanliness. Price also not NYC insanity. -
Review 86 (2024-07-07 - Rating: 5)
Great food for excellent value. We ordered the mung bean jelly, poached chicken, cucumber salad, chicken cartilage, and braised pork belly. All of our cold appetizers came out extremely quickly, and servers were very attentive the whole time. Would definitely come back again! -

Review 95 (2024-12-30 - Rating: 5)
The private room atmosphere is great, first appetizer we got was the mala beef jerky, great flavor & texture. Definitely spicy but not unreasonable. -
Review 96 (2023-10-11 - Rating: 5)
Amazing high quality food at reasonable prices. Service was quick and friendly although it was mid-afternoon. One irritation was the inability to order the appetizer specials at my table in the restaurant unless I moved to the front by the bar. -

Review 100 (2024-08-04 - Rating: 5)
As soon as you walk in, there is a chic bar to the left, great for a drink while you wait. The restaurant is a really long rectangle with plenty of seats for 2,4, and up. Round tables for the larger parties. AC blasting, tasteful music blaring but not overpowering your convo. Must get: chilled cucumber, smashed eggplant, Dan Dan noodles, and the mala fish with rice. Food came out wicked fast and fresh. The vibes were lively and made for a fun dinner.Good vibes, awesome food, great service! Unassuming from outside, but def a must try! -

Review 102 (2024-08-09 - Rating: 5)
Loved this place! The ambience was warm and inviting, perfect for a relaxed meal with friends or family. The service was equally impressive, attentive without being overbearing. We started with the edamame and cucumber salad, both of which were fresh and flavorful. The veggie dumplings were a standout, with a perfectly balanced filling and a light, delicate wrapper. For the main course, we tried the rice noodles, General Tsos chicken, and the green chili chicken with black bean sauce. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared, with distinct flavors that made them memorable. The General Tsos chicken had a perfect blend of sweetness and spice, while the green chili chicken delivered a satisfying kick without overwhelming the taste buds. The highlight of the meal was the dessert—rice cake with lava brown sugar. It was an authentic treat, rich and decadent, yet light enough to leave you wanting more. Overall, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone looking for quality food in a cozy setting. We will definitely be back to explore more of the menu -
Review 103 (2024-07-10 - Rating: 5)
Absolutely delicious food, high-quality dining experience, and service. I love NYC precisely for these types of experiences! My group and I tried as many dishes as we could, and not a single time were we let down. From the shrimp, to dumplings, fried rice, spare ribs, coconut soup, duck, spicy crispy chicken, scallion pancake, drinks, everything was exquisite, hand made and authentic (not america style)! Chi is an excellent restaurant and I highly recommend it! -

Review 112 (2024-06-27 - Rating: 5)
Rich, hot, spicy and succulent is how I describe everything in this restaurant. Wonderfully prepared dishes that will delight your palate. All cooked and served to perfection. We ordered the eggplant and garlic, bbq ribs, ocra salad with clams and the crispy duck. Then for the main dishes the whole fish in chili sauce and the truffled beef. All very well seasoned and very spicy. If you enjoy spicy and hot cuisine this is the best go to Chinese place. Theyre always on top of helping and serving ones table. Very cordial and friendly. I loved the experience. And whats more theyre open later than most. -
Review 113 (2024-09-01 - Rating: 4)
Ive been wanting to try this place, but I didn’t want it to be another Americanized Chinese restaurant, so I opted for Uber Eats first. The green pepper pork dish was so delicious, but some peppers were extremely spicy since the restaurant didn’t remove the seeds. Luckily, I was at home, so I was able to cool it down by drinking some oat milk.I would’ve given it a 5-star if the chefs had removed the seeds. Perhaps they will after reading this review! -

Review 117 (2024-06-21 - Rating: 5)
Cute restaurant inside. We went at 10:30PM and was surprised to see the place was quite busy at this late.I was craving for Chinese food and happy find this place near hotel and open until 1AM.It has a full bar, a good size dinning area, and private rooms. Good ambiance with a few framed Chinese calligraphy on the wall.Although busy at 10:30PM, we received good service.Food is excellent! Good presentation and flavorful. The mashed eggplant and peppers were tasty with the right cooked texture, soft yet not mushy. The cumin lamb has the right amount of spices and is at our spicy level. It is strange that everyone likes the spicy level as I like little spicy while my family members like very spicy food. It made an impression on my kid and declared, “I will order this dish every time I go to a Chinese restaurant and leant to make it at home.”Thanks for an enjoyable meal and satisfied my Chinese food craving at this hour! -

Our favorite of the night was the cucumbers and tuffle beef tenderloin. We were also impressed by the service and how quickly the food came out. The only negative was the boo choy was a little greasy, but overall solid experience! -

Amazing Dining Experience in New York’s Chinese RestaurantI recently dined at this incredible Chinese restaurant in New York, and I must say, it was an outstanding experience! The food was not only delicious but also beautifully presented.I tried several dishes, including cucumbers, eggplants, fish, and pork. Each dish had its unique flavor and was cooked to perfection. The fish, in particular, was a standout with its rich and spicy sauce, while the pork was tender and savory. The eggplants were perfectly cooked and full of flavor, and the cucumbers added a refreshing crunch to the meal. -

Fun place to visit with great dishes I had lobster in sticky rice and every drop was delicious. Comes in the shell so be prepared to work for it!The other dishes and appetizers were also very good. The people who work there are fun and helpful.Reluctant to rate this place because it was soooo crowded when we arrived that good rating will add to the wait for a table - even with a reservation.
