    Great casual spot with excellent food huge portions great prices love the fried shrimp and calamari. They also have an excellent Maryland style crabcake and the short rib was really really good with the fresh spinach and mashed potatoes. I definitely we will be back soon.

    The food was absolutely delicious. All the dishes we ordered were great. The lobster Mac n cheese superb, chicken dishes were not dry, very crispy outside and moist inside. Loved the ambiance. Our waiter was terrific. Kudos to owner, Leon Ellis for such a wonderful place.

    The food was fabulous. The service not so good. There were 3 of us. 1 person drinking the mimosa special. She had to keep asking for a refill. No other guests should know what anyone is drinking. There was hardly no one in the place. Servers just standing around talking w the bartender. Not the best look for a tourist like myself. I had a question about the menu. Had to get up, interrupt the chatting and ask a question. Very dissappointed in the service. WE can do better. I still tipped 25 percent. WE must do better.

    Wonderful black-owned restaurant that offers delicious soul food and known for their red velvet pancakes. The restaurant has a lively but relaxed atmosphere, knowledgeable and attentive staff, and amazing food and drinks. Brunch is offered until 10 pm, with bottomless mimosas for $25 and bottomless bellinis for $30.

    Great experience for my first time here. Had Fried Chicken (Bone out) with Red Velvet Waffle + mimosas. Food was good, service was good, environment was good. Got seated right away, found parking right away, and the attention to detail to make sure my mimosa glass was always full was perfect. Will visit again!

    Every time, I visit Harlem from Maryland, I stop by Chocolat and it never disappoints. The food is delicious, the drinks are decadent and the service is impeccable. I highly recommend this Harlem gem and cant wait to stop by next month.

    I went to chocolate two days in a row, one of the days was my birthday. I enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Service was so so nothing to write home about, we had to keep asking for a refill of mermosa. Yes will go back one day.

    The red velvet waffles looked and felt like they were steamed and shrinking in size.There was only one waffle on the plate. Restaurants normally serve two waffles to an order, not here!!! The leg quarter was cut into four pieces how is that possible especially when you’re charging $34.00. The Caesar salad tasted salty and had tomato’s in it. Overall the server was great and introduced himself and took our orders correctly and offered water. We will not be returning .

    I ordered a salad with beets, goat cheese, red onions. I added shrimp. The shrimp was excellent. They were grilled jumbo shrimp and a generous portion. The main disappointment was the use of canned beets for this salad. If fresh beets cannot be used, there are other higher quality beets that are available. I expect better at a restaurant like this. This was my main complaint. The service was excellent and the ambience is very comfortable, intimate and welcoming.

    My partner had the fish tacos, I had the calamari peanut sesame salad. Food was EXCELLENT, I would come back just for the salad.For some reason our service took a l-o-n-g time. It was not very busy (there were empty tables), and the young man waiting on us was personable and knowledgeable, but it took overly long for him to get us our drinks or to check back after we were served.Also wish there had been a bit more variety on the dessert menu.Other than that, an altogether pleasurable experience!

    The Shrimp and the Grits was Amazing! I am a Chi-town Girl and have never had Shrimp and Grits this BOMB! They made my heart sing! Compliments to the Chef!Service was slow but I think they are short staffed. The wait is worth it!! We KNOW good help is hard to find!!

    My experience here is always pleasurable. Leon the owner greets his guests, Sarah the manager is always accommodating and the staff is always attentive and friendly. And the food and drinks is on point, trust me you will not be disappointed. Everything on the menu is delicious.

    Ashley was our waitress and she did a great job with 2 large abs demanding parties in the private seating area. She was very hospitable and made sure we had what we needed. Some of our party’s food was incorrect, but every effort was made to correct it in a timely manner. My only major complaint was the conditions of the bathrooms upon arrival. But once we made the issue known, staff quickly rectified it. Overall, I would definitely come back again on my next trip to NY.

    Chocolat is Oh-La-La!! I had a group of 25 and could not have picked a better choice. The service was impeccable. The food was delightful from the shrimp and grits to the chicken and waffles to the lobster mac and cheese and lets not talk about the lamb chops. We were not disappointed, and you wont be either.

    Chocolat was recommended to my friends and I due to the atmosphere and food. The mgr was very attentive as soon as we walked in. She seated us and gave us menus and recommendations all in the first few minutes. The wait staff were trying, but they needed to be a little more focused. Our food did take time to come out, but the mgr explained they were getting work done in the kitchen. Im not really a drinker, but the drinks didnt have any taste to me or my friends. Overall it is a nice spot and I would recommend it.

    We took the train from Manhattan to Harlem for Brunch on a Sunday and it was a highlight of our trip to New York. It was easy to find and in a good location. Ashley was our server and she was awesome. So many good choices on the menu. I had the fried fish and waffles and my wife had the pancakes with chicken. They both were good but I think next time I’m going to order the chicken and waffles. My waffle was light and moist with great flavor. The chicken was cooked just right. The fish was good but I was hoping they had the Louisiana Hot Sauce instead they had Tabasco sauce. This place has a nice atmosphere that’s relaxing with natural light. A great way to start your day. There was an 18% gratuity charge on our ticket for our party of 2 which was cool with us. Good food and a good time.

    This resturant was recommended to us. My first time. We made reservations which comes with terms around time limit in resturant (ok)...late arrival and fees. Now, I mention this for a reason. We had reservation for opening. We arrived 15 mins early due to policy and there was a group of friends there ahead of us. We laughed and talked with them until opening. We notice that opening time had come and gone. No one came to the door to let us know for a while. Fifteen minutes later, a young lady came to the door to say theyll be opening a couple minutes. Finally, doors opened but the place seemed like there was a party the night before and they just cleaned up before opening. Not bad but you can tell as floor had sticky spots.The staff was nice but very laid back.The saving grace to it all was the food. Visually appealing. Delicious! The food met my expectation. The biscuits were heaven. Is it pricey? Not really. Its in range for similiar style resturants.Based on other reviews...our experience my not be the norm but it can affect the expectation of customer experience based on what the resturant advertises. Just got to tighten up staff. I have no problems going back again.

    My friends and I were going to eat at another location and when we arrived, it was super crowd. It was a Sunday afternoon, and we just wanted to catch up on life. We decided to continue walking until we saw this location. They had a more spacious space for us, and the wait was not long. The food and service are good. Im a little disappointed that they do not have mocktail for those individuals who want to socialize without drinking alcohol.

    I was in NY for my birthday weekend, I saw a commercial advertising the restaurant. The food looked amazing so I decided to try it. This Black owned farm to table soul food restaurant didn’t disappoint me. I had a spinach pear salad with blackened salmon and my with had snapper with peas and rice. Both dishes were delicious and this will be one of my go to restaurants when NY.

    Sooooo…….🧐I’m thinking of a way to begin this review. I can’t help but remember those SUCCULENT lollipop lamp chops 🤤served w/ homemade smashed potatoes (yes I said smashed) and a healthy serving of spinach. Which included minced garlic and definitely EVOO (extra virgin olive oil), or something to that effect, I didn’t taste butter. So when I tell you the presentation is VERY inviting the service is to be desired, we’ll get to that by the end of this review.😳While the servers were all pleasant, the establishment was not busy at all for a Saturday night. I was with a bday dinner party for a special lady, who happens to know the owner/partner (who conveniently wasn’t there that evening)So let’s talk about “MY” experience with the food service now that we’re over the food porn😉. There were a lot of different things going on in our section- which was one lil room- the tv was supposedly not working, no music and what we did hear for music was the ambiance for the main dining area. I won’t go into great detail, basically long story short our main server became overwhelmed and told one our guests he had other things going on and so on and so forth when we tried to explain we should’ve been told he could not make more than 4 separate checks I explained that should have been informed about that as the guests arrived. I would like to add maybe he may not have been trained properly or had little experience with customer service to that nature not sure but also his shirt was wrinkled for an establishment that is charging $$$$ for the food. I gave him many thanks just to boost his morale up again he over came the triumph of helping us. So KUDOS to this young man.On the other hand everything began with some chaos and ended with a better outcome. To which I’m mentioning for reasons being “they” should have been more prepared for a small party of 15 ppl.I know this ain’t a blog 😝 but I wanted to explain some major details that some others ppl that reviewed this establishment only let us know the service was awful. I had a similar experience and hope this mouthful helps anyone reading.All in all, I truly enjoyed he food and hope they manager can boost their servers skills by being more attentive, respond in a professional manner and provide guests with information that isn’t going to cause a lack luster experience.🙌🏽

    The most amazing food and drinks!!! We went for brunch and left very happy. The wings, the biscuits 😋, and he red velvet pancakes were the best. I also had the shrimp and grits with bacon. Wow!!!     Went here with the family today to celebrate my mother in law’s birthday and it was a good experience. We made reservations prior to going for about 10 people but added more later and the restaurant had no issues. The restaurant was nice, clean and had a nice vibe and we brought the party💃🏽🕺🏾🔥 The food was good as well we had a bit of everything and no one had any complaints so that was a plus. We also had their “Rum Swizzle” drink which is basically their version of a Rum punch and it was good but DEFF not as strong as I was hoping it would’ve been but it had a lil buzz though lol.

    This Black Owned restaurant is amazing. The service was phenomenal along with the tasty food. The ambiance is very inviting! I wish there was a mini dance floor for the great music being played! I was there on a Friday. Our Server Dante was attentive, kind and readily available. I would recommend this establishment to any and every one. I willd definitely be back!

    Great place!We reserved our table and were sat immediately. All of our entrees were delicious (chicken penne allá vodka, pan seared red snapper, salmon BLT, red velvet pancakes w/Emilys sweet southern fried chicken) red sangria came with a good kick. Our waiter, Mamadou (hopefully spelled it correctly) was very attentive and kind. 10/10 recommend.Music was at conversation level. We went for Saturday dinner.

    I was in town for a show and Chocolat came highly recommended. I was pleased with the food, but the service was lacking. We waiting about 20 minutes before anyone came over to take our drink order. The waiter seemed a bit annoyed that by the time he got to us, we also wanted to place our food order. The food came out fast and again, it was delicious. The staff delivering the food were very courteous. However, based on service I will choose another restaurant my next visit.

    Awesome Experience All-Around. Sara and Malick were outstanding! From the moment we were greeted at the front door to leaving the restaurant it was the best hospitality and service. The hostess and servers were excellent. The red velvet waffles were so delicious we ordered an extra. I loved the red velvet pancakes and chicken. I’m not sure what spices they used for chicken but it was flavorful. Truly a Harlem treasure, grateful to have found this place.

    Omg! Today I came In for a late brunch and I was blown away! This was an amazing brunch dining experience.They no longer require masks to be worn & proof of vaccination.They had great music playing that wasn’t overwhelming. The decor is perfect.     My cousin and I went yesterday and had a great experience. He’s from FL and Chocolat is one of his favorites spots to eat when he comes into town. I had the Emily’s Sweet Southern Fried Chicken and my cousin had pancakes, eggs and sausage. Both dishes were excellent. The chicken was perfectly fried and moist. The collards greens and Mac n’ cheese were on point. We’ll definitely be back!

    Im not really sure how we saw advertising for Chocolat,but Im so glad we did.While visiting NY with my best friend, we had Sunday brunch at Chocolat before heading back to Connecticut. First, lets start with the service. We were immediately seated. Malaki, our waiter, tended to us with professionalism and kindness. We started with calamari which was the best Ive ever had. I had buttermilk pancakes and southern sweet chicken. Although Malaki said it was going to be a mixture of dark and white meat, it was dark only. It was still delicious. The chicken had a batter crust and had syrup drizzled on it. My BFF had the shrimp and grits. She let me taste her dish. I was envious. We are from the south, so we know grits! And these grits were cooked to the perfect texture. The flavors were perfect with no one overpowering the other. One bite was engrossed with the bacon. The next bite had just the right amount of cheese. But the bite with the shrimp takes you to a place that makes you hold your breath and chew slowly to savor the taste and moment. The shrimp have a smoky grilled taste, and with the grits with bacon and cheese make this the best shrimp and grits I have ever had. Im already planning my next visit, and youd better believe I will get shrimp and grits! And both were just as good the next day!

    We brought my grandmother here for her 84th birthday. She had a great time! I am funny about food. Everything we ate was GREAT. The crabcakes, the lamp chops & the red snapper. I took a star off because we had to go looking for the server twice. If you ait outside. Fair warning you may have to flag down the server too.     Went to this restaurant for a friends birthday dinner. The restaurant is nice and clean with a lot of seating space inside and outside. The food and the drinks are really good. Everything tasted good, and the portions are big. Good customer service. You must try the calamari and the fried chicken. Salds are very good as well. I definitely recommend this place, and I will be returning.

    My fried chicken was so crunchy and full of flavor!!! Im a Texan so Im sensitive about soul food. Chocolat did not disappoint! The smashed potatoes and collard greens were delicious. I asked for a side of gravy and it was divine too! Service was impeccable during this global pandemic. I look forward to going back!

    First time here. I had a great time - I think the service was quick and friendly. Best service during the pandemic. First place I’ve been too where they actually give you bottomless mimosas. I’ve been to places where you have to hunt the waiter down to refill your drink. I did not have to ask once for them to refill the drink - not once. Bill already paid and I still have a full glass. I hope everyone has the same experience!

    Food was very good. Our server was very nice, but absent for most of the meal. Had to work to get her attention at the end and ended up paying the book with someone else and tipping them for coming over to help us. As per most restaurants owned or operated by people under 50, it was entirely too loud. Music was blaring and the three of us were shouting to hear each other. The 20 year old at our table complained about the volume. Its not an age thing, its a common sense thing.

    My mom always wanted to eat at Chocolat but never found the time to go due to her moving out of town. So, for Mother’s Day I surprised her with a Brunch date. We reserved our seats and was escorted to our table shortly after arrival. So after sitting the waitress came by and gave us menus. She was really kind and helpful with helping my Mom pick out her food. The atmosphere was nice as always and the music was too. I got my usual Sheimo amd grits and they was so delicious (I want some now!). It begun to get crowded but we wasn’t rushed to eat and leave. The bottles Mimosas were on point too!y mom still raves about the chicken and waffles she had and will visit again when she’s in town! Thank you Chocolat for a great Mother’s Day experience!!

    I had a birthday dinner here of about 15 ppl. The manager and services were all very friendly and accompanying. The prices were good, for such a large party. The bill was over $1000.Many glasses of wines and drinks were included in this price-Ive seen worst. I personally felt like everything i tasted was salty. I had a taste of different meals at mt table that day and wasnt very impressed by the salt. Someone else at my table also spoke about the salt. I also had a comment that the jerk chicken could have been a little more tasty. Someone at the table enjoyed the chicken and waffles as well as the lamp chops.Also they could not accommodate dietary restrictions because all the food is prepared in the same kitchen. They do offer inside and outside sitting. I was expecting a fancier place but it was still okay. They should add more fancy stuff to promote the name of the restaurant more (both for food and atmosphere. Maybe a big chocolate bar for photos/fun or chocolate design by the Bar, fancy chocolate meal- i dont know just something exciting like the name). Overall, its a clean place and everyone had a great day. The restaurant grade is an A.

    It was our first visit to this restaurant and most of the food was on point. Wanted to substitute the collard greens for something else but unfortunately no substitutes allowed so ended up ordering an additional side. The collard greens were pretty bland.     I should begin by noting that this was the only restaurant regularly advertised on the New York Hilton channel. We enjoyed a lovely brunch here on a Tuesday afternoon. The restaurant sits on a prominent corner on a grand boulevard and is decorated in vibrant colors. Our server, Amari, was a delightful young man with big dreams. He was professional and polite.We asked to meet the owner who promptly came to the table and we took a photo together. Mr. Ellis is a consummate manager and chef (and a good Tuskegee man).I give high marks to the sangria and the mango margarita. Fresh ingredients, carefully balanced for a gourmet presentation.We were very impressed by the red velvet pancakes, fried chicken and salmon croquettes. The cheese grits are world class.I told Mr. Ellis that I would urge all foodies, discriminating consumers, and HBCU villages (especially SpelHouse, Tuskegee, and Howard to come and enjoy this amazing restaurant).It may be slightly pricier than standard restaurants, but this really is gourmet quality and deserves our support.

    Went on Mother’s Day, great atmosphere and while the menu is a bit pricey the food was delicious. If you have any dietary restrictions they cannot accommodate since all the food is prepared in the same kitchen. It was a bit crowded but it was to be expected. Definitely recommend booking your table in advance and going not on a weekend to avoid long wait times. But I enjoyed my visit, I would go again.

I had the beet and arugula sandwich and mac and cheese. LOVED IT!!! My husband had lamb, mashed sweet potatoes and spinach. Spinach lacked seasoning but still thoroughly enjoyed his plate. My friends had the shrimp and grits and steak, everyone wanted to lick their fingers. We ordered one Bellini then switched to bottomless because the bellinis were so tasty. EVERYTHING WAS GOOD, so glad I found this place during my one day NYC trip.     My family and I visited the restaurant for my daughter 21st birthday. We were seated right away. The brought us water and came to see what we wanted to order as soon as we sat down. I was a little skeptical about the other reviews of people waiting excess amount of times, but this was not our experience. Food came fast, and was GOOD!!! The place was really clean, the music and ambience was amazing. My family and I seek out black businesss to support and Chocolat did not disappoint. I have to mention the manager Kenyatta! She was not upfront when we came in, but she made sure to greet us and everyone else. Her professional attitude and welcoming demeanor was refreshing. Everyone was nice, but she really stood out. I do recommend this black owned restaurant.

    Delicious food with great presentation. I wish they would add smoked salmon to the brunch menu. I also think it would be a nice idea to paint the interior walls a different color than yellow, but thats just a personal preference. I think it would enhance the environment / ambiance. When she approached our table, we were in conversation instead of introducing herself and asking if we were ready to order. Her statement was, Oh, you are talking. I will come back. Then, when the waiter who was very pleasant was assisting us with take-home containers, she came over and fussed with him that it was her job. That behavior was totally inappropriate in front of the customers. Having worked in customer service for over 35 years, I found her to be very offensive. That just capped off our dining experience!

    Chocolat Restaurant & Bar is my very 1st restaurant to see a sticker on the door with the message black owner right in your face as you enter the restaurant. ✊🏾🙏🏾❤️ for the culture it made me feel proud to spend my dollars in my community. We seated immediately in the middle of the restaurant and a sidewall behind us. I will definitely go back to get pictures of the decor the jumbo TV screens gave it so much life. Chocolat was truly decorated very nice from the paint colors to the metal silver framing around the bar blends very well. The Red Velvet Pancakes with Emilys fried chicken stood out off the menu to me. So my order was set. And it was deeeeeelicous !!

But this time around our server Sarah really lacked customer service. She disappeared occasionally, and did not have the greatest attitude.
