    The food was really good and the bar was fun and open and spacious. Our servers were great and I loved my strawberry basil spritzer. The only thing I’ll say is the restaurant was sooooo hot. Maybe the air conditioning was out, but it was hot and humid inside and we were all sweating throughout our meal. Everything else was great, though!

    This place came through for me with last minute seating for my large party. When I arrived I was greeted by the owner Rick and our server Mario. I started with a Rose Sangria then a red one and I didnt like them too much so I stuck with red wine. My party ordered different appetizers and drinks and they liked them. I ordered the vegetable taco and it was tasty and for my entrée I ordered the vegetarian plate and it was tasty as well. We ended the night with dessert and my guest liked their desert. Mario was great and attentive all evening. I would come back.

    Best place Ive stumbled upon in a long while! The staff is friendly and accommodating, the food is fresh and mouth watering, the place is clean and full of character and history. I had the pleasure of meeting the owners and I think this is my new favorite place! Fisher Island oysters are so fresh, if I close my eyes I can almost feel the sand between my toes. 🥰 thank you Greene Hook, for the perfect afternoon!

    Came here for lunch on Friday and had an excellent meal. We got some bluepoint oysters and entrees. Shrimp po boy was delicious, and so were the burgers, salmon and steak. Good bar as well.

    This spot is a fun neighborhood contemporary bar. It has shuffleboard, darts, and various board games. It is also reliable to show popular sporting events. We havent tried dinner here, but the appetizers are very good and I believe the happy hour oysters are the best value in Paulus Hook.

    Went here for my birthday! It was open late and the food was exactly what we wanted. They have oysters!! I may have had a few dirty martinis 😄. It has a really good atmosphere and you can sit outside. A bit broey but definitely still a good vibe.

    Last review from Oscar is way off base. I was actually the other customer Mario was speaking to. We were with a larger group and Mario is the ONLY server during the lunch hour, so his statement that he had to reach out to different server to get service doesn’t track well. Funny how people hide behind there screens and attempt to get good people in trouble. Mario always scans the room and tends to his patrons. The vibe here is great, owner is very friendly, and food is great I would highly recommend to anybody in the area. Love the mussels here. Enjoy

    Ive been there many times. More than once I arrived 1 hour away from kitchens closing time and every time food was delicious and well made. They have more than one option for vegetarians. Drinks are good. Staff is nice and friendly. I love this place!

    Had the mussels, Buffalo cauliflower and pork Reuben.Mussels needed a bit more seasoning, both garlic and salt.The cauliflower was just right, and in manageable pieces instead of whole floretsThe Reuben lacked thousand island and shy on the sauerkraut.Service was good so they got an extra star.My friend had the fish sandwich which he seemed to enjoy

    Great place. Owner doesn’t tolerate noisy children or their badly behaved parents. The same parents that get random strangers to leave negative reviews on google even though they’ve never dined here.

    Our very first time here. A very nice place to hangout and enjoy good food and beer. The food was good and really fast prepared and served. Service, on the other hand was slow. Our server (Mario D) was totally distracted having a long and repetitive conversation with another customer that looks like a regular or at least an acquaintance. We have to ask other servers a few times for the things that we need. Nice sports bar atmosphere, just the music was a little bit too loud for me.It was a good experience overall and Ill definitely give it another try.

    Ive been here several times. Cocktails are very good. Most items in the menu are as well. I recommend the shrimp tacos! That said, the nachos missed the mark. While its more than just cheese and chips, it feels very basic and probably should be struck from the menu

    Great service, delicious food, and really good strong drinks. This is a wonderful place to casually meet up with friends for dinner, late drinks, or even a date night. Its never been too overly loud at the random times Ive gone and the staff has always been friendly and attentive. This is my go-to place if Im ever craving a good martini in JC.

    Great service & pretty good food!Came here for a date night & the food was pretty good my boyfriend enjoyed his meal I got the jalapeño Mac & cheese I thought had better expectations it was too bland for me, looked great so I assumed but i needed more seasoning & more flavor for sure! The drinks were super good tho! I’d come back again

    Although its just a bar and hangout location for corporate people after work, the service is excellent and that alone would make anyone want to return.Our waiter was friendly and ensured that my group was comfortable. He came back to our area very often and was respectful. Even when our group got smaller, it didnt feel like we were being forced to move.On top.of that the bartender was friendly and tried to joke with us at the latter end of the night. My overall experience was one of warmth and a good time.

    Came here over the lunch hour with a work group. The service was quick, and although this is a great happy hour spot, there was a clear designation for the dining room and everything was nicely set/prepared that you didnt feel like you were having in a pub. The food was above my expectation. Definitely will be back to dine here again.

    Greene Hook is a good place to go with friends to watch a game and linger for hours. We had the Hook burger and Fat Joe sandwich and they both were flavorful and filling (generously sized sandwich for sure). Though the chicken was fried it wasn’t too greasy and had a nice crunch. The bourbon bread pudding is delish - especially the ice cream.

    Good food, beer selection and friendly staff make this fun place to stop by after work or weekend brunch. The weekend brunch menu is really good! Crispy pork belly scrambled eggs with biscuits and gravy! Or steak and eggs or chicken and waffles.The menu is changing soon, looking forward to it!!6 months since my review:There have been a few changes but mostly positive, there are new faces and food items on the menu. But all-in-all the consistency of service and quality still hold strong. Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary. Ive signed another 2 years upstairs so I look forward to the next few to come.

    Great service great food. Best poutine. We traveled from md the night before a cruise. Cant wait to go back. Creative cuisine. Hip and comfortable atmosphere. Lots of smiles and all staff that passed by spoke and asked if we needed anything even made me a special drink not on menu

    This is a lovely and rustic restaurant / bar. It looks comfortable and well lived-in. Eric is kind of like the food. They have common offerings for a restaurant of this type. But they have done a good job upgrading them to something interesting and tasty. It was enjoyable.

    Finally got here to try it out a few months after its opened now, and I was very happy I did.We took a seat at a table and ordered the fried chicken for two, which is a bucket of fried chicken that comes with jalapeño biscuits and mac and cheese as well. The fried chicken was the star of the show here for me. Perfectly breaded, seasoned, and cooked. Like, melt in your mouth good. I would come here just for this, and at $26 for two, its priced quite well. The mac and cheese and jalapeño biscuits served as excellent additions to the meal.For drinks, they have a pretty solid beer selection as well as, from what I understand, regularly rotating taps. I went with a Green Flash IPA and a Great Lakes Conways Irish Ale. They poured well into the correct glasses and the beer came out cold and fresh.Service was friendly and prompt, and we were even checked on by either managers or owners twice (not sure which), and that made us feel welcome and appreciated.The decor here is really cozy and nice. They went with lots of wood and what almost appears to be a nautical theme in some areas. Theres also a shuffleboard table and darts here if youre so inclined (just watch for people coming out of the mens bathroom when youre throwing darts).Overall, had a great time and will be back for some after work drinks and to try more of their menu.

    Great place to go late night, just to have a drink or for some snacks... try their deviled eggs or their veggie tacos (mostly not on the menu - youre welcome). Solid drink selection and always good wine. Great place to just enjoy watching a game and hanging out with locals.

    Love the atmosphere and staff. I work in the area and visit the Hook once a week for lunch and a cocktail or four. The bartenders are all friendly and remember your previous orders, a few of them are pretty attractive as well which is never a bad thing. The beer selection is good, wines too, and theyll special order stuff for regulars if they dont have it. all you have to do is ask Rich (the owner) for it. The music is good, theres lots of TVs and there are bar games available. There is indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of open floor space. I have a good time every time i go, especially Thursday happy hour. I would normally take a star away cause the foods average at best and a bit pricey but id go here even if they didnt have food just to chat with Dana, JoAnn or Dave behind the bar. If youre looking for a place to have a cocktail in Jersey City on a weekday you can do a lot worse that the Greene Hook.

    Amazing food, staff, service, and location! Ordered the Chicken Parm Burger and it was delicious. Everything tasted so fresh and was cooked so well. Menu can be viewed via QR code. Server was very friendly and patient. Can’t wait to go back and try some other dishes! 😋

    I come here often with my family, usually end of day for a quick bite and drinks. The food is good, staff is friendly and price is in the average. There are tables in and outside and the atmosphere is great. There are several TVs playing sports events.

    Wonderful neighborhood restaurant, great vibes. One of our favorite spots for lunch with family, we have two little kids and they are always excited to dine there. Also weve enjoyed drinks with friends during happy hour and late hours (definitely wont take our little kids during those hours out of consideration for other patrons). Weve had a great time, with good drinks and service. Very accommodating staff and made arrangements for us when we had a large group (with kids) for a last minute lunch one weekend.Not sure if people that are leaving very similar negative reviews are doing that out of their own experience or just following along some other parents direction who might have had a bad experience. But weve had a wonderful experience at the restaurant!

    Go-to bar for sporting events and good beer selection for the Exchange Place area. Many TV screens and projectors for your entertainment. During the summer months, a ping pong table is usually available on the patio. Shuffleboard and darts are available inside.

    There are so many positive things about the mighty Greene Hook. First off, the atmosphere is great, and the space is also welcoming and clean. Theres even outdoor seating on a patio elevated above the public sidewalk. This place is great for a quick lunch, a full sit down dinner or even a night out for a sporting event that you can watch on their multiple TV screens. Theres darts, shuffleboard and other board games available here as well. Second, their food and bar exceed expectations. The menu seems to always be going through upgrades and changes, which shows someones in the wheel house paying attention looking out for the next best dish. The bar is grand in its own right and their mixologists keep it moving. I dont ever see anyone waiting for a drink here, no matter how busy they are. The service is also just as grand and takes the cake. Everyone in uniform here has their eye on something at any given moment, which to me is a great way to ensure the customers are being taken care of. Rich does a great job of putting the pieces of the puzzle together here day and night, and Mario along with the rest of the Team do a great job at making sure you have a fun quality experience. I am hooked on this place for sure and will be 100% going back. Highly recommend.

    I’m surprised by the other reviews here - we actually had an amazing time! Stopped by after work for dinner and took advantage of the happy hour deal on draft beer and Pinot Grigio. Cool atmosphere and a shuffleboard is always a plus. Maybe the key is going here before 7pm?

    This place is awesome. Laid back pub but a touch more classy. I got the hook burger with blue cheese and it was Perfect! Thick patty, crisp lettuce that was cold, ripe tomato, and a warm bun. The blue cheese that was on it was just slightly melted and awesome. I had the hard cider and must say its the best I have had in New York. Im just visiting on vacation from Oregon but I will definitely come back to this place if Im ever in town again. Highly recommend! Sorry I missed the before pic but a side note the fries are really great too. Thin and crispy with the right amout of salt.

    We often go to Greene Hook after work. Nice ambience and staff. Pretty decent selection of food and drinks. They also have veg options.

    The food here is excellent. I think thats the concept, because the technique here is unrivaled in the area. When I want food with proper technique, this place tops my list. I dont know how they built such an excellent kitchen staff. FOH is top notch too. Overall an amazing operation that you can walk in expecting a great experience.👍👍

    Come here during happy hour! 6$ cocktails (dark and stormy) and 1$ blue point oysters! They also have a nice seating area with a view of NYC. This is a great summer spot for a good happy hour or even for a nice brunch. Gentlemen I recommend bringing your ladies here.Parking is a bit tricky as you will have to park close by in residential streets. Your allowed a minimum of 2 hours if you are not from the area.

    That Burger I had should be illegal, as good as it was ! In my 10 day Trip to NY i didnt had a better Burger somewhere else and i had an American Diet i can promise that!Beer by the way was great too. Clean, fast, and Nice Experience everything a 5 Star Rating would deserve !

    Be sure to keep an eye out for this place as it has no outdoor signage, only open for a few weeks when I visited in early October. Love the vibe in here, both at the bar and in the dining area. If youre in for brunch, try the Mangalista burger which is technically off the menu, but theyre happy to serve. Its a pork burger with pork belly and an egg cooked enough that even I, a non-egg on a burger person, really enjoyed it.
