We had a fantastic dining experience! We ordered the pork shank for two, and it was incredibly tender and juicy. The sausage was also packed with flavor and perfectly seasoned. The portions were generous—so much so that we couldn’t finish the entire plate and ended up taking some home.Overall, we loved everything about the meal and the service. Highly recommend!

I have been craving my grandfathers sauerbraten for some time. I dont have the patience or memory to prep 3-5 days. This was a perfect compromise. The potato dumplings and red cabbage were comforting. Splurged and had the Black Forest cake too cant speak highly enough about the service.

It is a great restaurant for traditional German Food. Everything is lovely prepared and a feast for the eyes. The food portions are plentiful. The ambience is cozy and authentic. The furnishings are rustic and Bavarian which fits in well with the Bavarian kitchen. The staff is friendly and helpful. You forget for a while that you are in America and almost want to order in German.I can recommend the Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle), the Wiener Schnitzel and the Schnitzel à la Holstein. If you are visiting this restaurant with several people, it is best to make a reservation.

This place is so iconic! Everything from the atmosphere to the side dishes blows me away every time I come. It is of course expensive as heck but so so so worth it—and honestly the amount of food you get and the quality and novelty is pretty worth the money. I always get the pork shank for two and it’s so good I could probably eat two of them.

  • Review 5 (2024-10-25 - Rating: 5)

Very authentic German restaurant in Upper East Side. One of Anthony Bourdain’s favorite restaurants with his picture (with Anderson Cooper) on the wall of the bar. The pork shank is very tender and unique, definitely a must here!

Service is great. When I come here with my fiancé we usually sit by the bar . The bartender is so friendly and she gives the best recommendations. ☺️

You want to travel to Germany but you can’t? Just have a dinner here !Exterior, interior, and even staffs’ outfits, everything was very authentic (I’ve never visited Germany, sorry if you guys disagree with me ;)Nevertheless, sausage was awesome. We ordered creamed spinach on the side and it was a good match with sausage. As many people already know, schnitzel was also good. I personally loved the big chunk of mushrooms in the cream sauce.I am not a big fan of a beer, so the server recommended me a hot wine and hot apple cider. Both were tasty and perfect for cold weather, if you are not a beer fan just like me, try the wine or any drinks that staffs recommend. I think all of the staffs know the menus well, and plus they are super friendly.Love the fact that this place is in my neighborhood and definitely my go-to place !

This was the third time Ive been here, first since covid. We miss eating here and love brunch! The food is always amazing! So good! Love the iconic songs played which we all know but sang in German. And kudos to our waiter who was able to take our entire order without having to write anything (everything came out right). Well back back again!

  • Review 9 (2024-04-20 - Rating: 5)

One of my favorite restaurants in the neighborhood. I love their giant pretzels and schweinshaxe (pork shank). So delicious! Their potato pancakes and sausages are great, too! Don’t forget to try their beef goulash! Can’t wait to come back!

  • Review 10 (2023-09-16 - Rating: 5)

Absolutely loved this place! One of the best German restaurant in Manhattan imho. Food and drinks, service, personal, atmosphere - everything is outstanding. We’ve ordered wheel of the camembert that was a great starter. Sausage platter and jagerschnitzel was delicious! But the nicest surprise was at the end. We’ve been suggested to try Black Haus schnapse with cherry chocolate cake. This was just WOW! This is a perfect combo. I’ve never thought that dessert can be so “die for…”! So grateful to the person who recommended it!

  • Review 11 (2024-11-10 - Rating: 5)

Simply exceptional, old-world German cuisine. Came here on a Bourdain-inspired food tour of New York and wasn’t disappointed. Fried cheese, cheesy German noodles with just the right amount of crispy bacon on the top? Perfection. Coupled with authentic schnitzel and (an enormous portion) of pork knuckle that’s beautifully crispy on the outside, tender delicious on the inside, this was the culinary highlight of our trip. A must eat stop in NYC, as long as you’re not a vegetarian that is.

  • Review 12 (2023-08-18 - Rating: 5)

I ordered their sausage platter for one which comes with three sausages: bratwurst, bauerwurst , and weisswirst. the dish also comes with potato salad, cabbage, and sauerkraut. i also ordered their gebackener camembert (breaded camembert cheese with sliced pear and cranberry sauce). i must begin by saying i’ve never been to a german restaurant and had simply stumbled upon this gem with a friend. everything tasted amazing. there is such a unique balance of flavors to every dish. the cheese was fragrant and delicious (not overly strong but a light creamy, milky flavor) that paired perfectly with the pear and cranberry giving the dish a creamy and sweet flavor profile. the sausages were all really good and paired perfectly with their potato salad, cabbage, and sauerkraut. each of the three sides gives a slightly different addition of flavor (salty, sweet, and sour/tartness). overall, i’d recommend coming here if you’re in the mood for german food (note: the meal overall was very filling and hearty)!

  • Review 13 (2024-12-12 - Rating: 5)

Very typical German style restaurant. Food is standard but very tasty. Service was friendly and prompt. Feels old world inside which is perfect match for the food and drinks.

  • Review 16 (2019-06-27 - Rating: 5)

We had a delicious meal here on a Monday night. It wasnt too busy and we were served immediately. The decor is done well, giving it that authentic German feel. The staff was very attentive and friendly. Highly recommend the schnitzel, as well as the sausage platter.

  • Review 17 (2022-03-06 - Rating: 5)

Best German restaurant in Manhattan. An NYC institution. Everything on the menu is a win. Great selection of German beers on top. Fantastic service, great Bavarian vibe. Sausage platter, pretzel, and the pork knuckle are the best

  • Review 18 (2024-08-18 - Rating: 5)

Simply the very best, highly authentic Wiener Schnitzel, with excellent German beer on tap and incredibly good service. All the other food from the spaetzle to the rotkohl was German cuisine perfected. A must visit if in Manhattan!

  • Review 19 (2024-12-16 - Rating: 5)

Definitely a solid place to go for German food. Great staff, excellent beers, and a good selection of food. The Schweinshaxe was excellent; the outside was perfectly crispy, the meat was extremely soft and juicy, and the bit of fat was the perfect texture and basically melts in your mouth. A little pricy but the portion was huge so its definitely worth it. Also the restaurant had immaculate vibes and was decorated really nicely, which is a bonus.

  • Review 20 (2020-01-05 - Rating: 5)

Delightful experience to eat at Heidelberg! From starter to dessert, everything is very tasty and well done. The staff is very well trained, the price is not so high and the food is really good.Bonus to the musical selection, very good soundtrack along with your meal

  • Review 21 (2023-03-11 - Rating: 5)

Traditional German restaurant, worth going if you’re craving a good beer, sausages and pretzel with mustard! Plates definitely can be shared and tastes amazing.

  • Review 22 (2024-05-10 - Rating: 5)

Everything was fantastic, dare I say better than my grandmother (so sorry) who was from Hamburg.

  • Review 23 (2019-04-28 - Rating: 4)

German restaurant in the upper east side. They serve various foods and the atmosphere is great. We could choose the size of beer.We also could choose the meat other than veal for schnitzel if you want. The veal one I ordered was tender and tasty.

  • Review 24 (2024-06-02 - Rating: 5)

Food was great. Atmosphere was delightful. Waiter was fantastic.

  • Review 25 (2024-03-19 - Rating: 5)

The Heidelberg was everything I would expect. The food (the pork shank) was delicious, the beer was great, and the atmosphere was incredible. It can get a bit loud and hard to hear, but with the food and drinks, it is a small minor detail.

  • Review 26 (2023-08-13 - Rating: 5)

Food was really good. As a former waiter in Germany I can attest to it tasting authentic from the Potato Pancakes, the Jaeger Schnitzel, to the Schwartzwalder Kirsche Torte. Ciara as a server was very friendly and helpful.

  • Review 27 (2024-09-07 - Rating: 5)

YUMM will be back again ! Great friendly service with variety of draft selections and good food 🫶

  • Review 28 (2022-07-18 - Rating: 5)

Delicious meal, warm atmosphere, friendly service. German food that tastes like “home”, just like Oma’s cooking in Germany. Have dined here twice and been very pleased both times. An easy five stars.

  • Review 29 (2019-06-15 - Rating: 4)

The food here is incredible and the service is great. I always love eating here. Knocked off one star because it seems they over-serve alcohol here. Was here alone and a very drunk woman randomly sat down at my table and would not get up. After much back and forth, I had to raise my voice to yell at her to leave my table before she finally got up and walked away. All she did was blankly stare and me and rock back and forth. Wasn’t sure if she was drunk or homeless until I later saw someone escorting her out. You wouldn’t have this problem if you didn’t over serve!

  • Review 30 (2024-12-11 - Rating: 5)

    Wonderful restaurant. Authentic German style.

  • Review 31 (2024-12-21 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 32 (2020-09-14 - Rating: 5)

Best Wiener Schnitzel in town with home fries and red cabbage. Ive gone back several times and it has not disappointed. Also the German draft beer is outstanding

  • Review 33 (2024-07-23 - Rating: 5)

I was visiting New York the day Germany played Denmark at the European Championship and there was no better place to watch the match than in Heidelberg. It is a city in Germany close to Mannheim where I live…Apart from the Name of the restaurants, the German guests who wanted to watch the match, the Biers, and “Schweinshaxe” which was very tasty by the way, it was pretty much American and not German 😀But it was a cool atmosphere and the waiter was very cooperative. The portion was so much I could not finish it, i has to package it

  • Review 34 (2024-12-06 - Rating: 4)

    Pretty decent German fare.

  • Review 35 (2024-06-28 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 36 (2022-09-24 - Rating: 5)

I really enjoyed the Heidelberg Restaurant. Huge menu. Great place for a beer. 💕 the ambiance.

  • Review 37 (2019-07-29 - Rating: 5)

I really loved the food. Price is decent. Not overly expensive. The beer was good too. It’s loud inside so if you’d like a more quiet seating then outside is a better option.

  • Review 38 (2024-01-02 - Rating: 5)

Love authentic German food and this place hit the spot

  • Review 39 (2024-11-19 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 40 (2018-08-26 - Rating: 5)

The food and service were very good. The giant pretzel had a surprisingly light smokiness. They have a good selection of beer and wine that complement German food.

  • Review 41 (2022-03-19 - Rating: 5)

Great beer and traditional German food - we shared the pretzel and then I had goulash. They get their meat and sausages from the butcher next store - check this place out!

  • Review 45 (2018-11-17 - Rating: 5)

Love this place, so much so we have to pace our visits to no more than once a month because the food is so filling. Sauerbraten is my favorite and goes great with beer.

  • Review 46 (2024-05-14 - Rating: 5)

Great customer service. The food was worth the wait, absolute perfection!!! The pickled herring is delicious. We did the pork shank for 2 and it was awesome. Perfect to taste some of everything. We ended the meal with an apple strudel. Absolutely delicious!

  • Review 49 (2024-02-02 - Rating: 5)

The bartender was extremely friendly and professional. Knew his beers.I have never been to Germany but I gotta say the pork knuckle and sausage has to be as authentic as you can get.

  • Review 50 (2024-12-19 - Rating: 5)

This German restaurant is a hidden gem! The vibe is super chill, and the food is on point. The schnitzel is crispy, and the bratwurst hits the spot. Pair it with a cold beer, and you’re set! The staff is friendly too. Definitely worth checking out!

  • Review 51 (2022-12-26 - Rating: 5)

Great restaurant. Cozy place with great food. We havent been there in years and it was better than ever.

  • Review 52 (2024-01-01 - Rating: 5)

Weinerschnitzel was delicious. Pretzel was good not special - not enough salt and a little hard - but the mustard and cheese sauce (this is extra) were tasty. Great ambiance and nice service. Will be back!

  • Review 53 (2023-07-29 - Rating: 4)

Come here for the German favorites you know and love. The home fries are made with BACON - enough said. The potato pancakes may be the best I’ve ever had (apologies to my wife). Nothing fancy, just solid German food in a nice, borderline kitschy setting. But you aren’t coming here to put it on tiktok. Reasonably priced. Good value. Service was slower than expected; the pacing of the meal was just off for me. Go enjoy anyway.

  • Review 54 (2024-04-18 - Rating: 5)

Sunday brunch time is the best time to crave some comfort German food. I have been here a couple of years before and I recall it to be excellent. Today, the excellence persisted when I re-visited with a friend.Leberknodelsuppe: two liver dumplings (actually dumpling shaped meat balls) in bone broth. Salty and umami, and not a lot of the organ taste to it. You can definitely taste the texture of the liver: a bit mushy like paste, with some blends of herbs. One dumpling is like thumb length and one bowl of liquid is really large. By the end, it leaves a bit of the saline aftertaste.Ochsenmausalat: marinated beef tongue on top of citrusy fresh salad and then topped with pickles. Refreshing refreshing refreshing. The tongues are thick-cuts and are still pink in color. The marinade really steeps into the meat and it is such a grease cutter despite it is beef tongue. The salad to tongue ratio is good to deliver major citrusy notes with hints of sweetness.Schweinsbaxe: the roasted pork shank is my go-to comfort food. The crispy skin with gelatinized collagen with part-tender-part-charred meat, what can I ask more for happiness. The pork itself doesn’t carry much flavor (besides its intrinsic subtle sweetness). I swapped the potato with the creamed spinach and with sauerkraut. Eating the shank with grained mustard and the sauerkraut is the key to keep on digging so you don’t get fat-saturated. Their creamed spinach is such a surprise item! Creamy and buttery and good to sneak in some veggies lol.Gebratene Ente: another my favorite item the roasted duckling with plum sauce! It was the item that left me hanging even after 2 years and it is even better than I remembered. The roasted duckling has a perfect layer of duck fat between its tender meat and crispy skin, which was glazed with plum sauce. You get duck flavor combined with hint of tangy and major sweet note and you also get the textural contrast between the skin, fat, and the meat. The sides were mashed potato ball and marinated cabbage. The cabbage was also marinated sweet, and was great to complement the dish to balance off the fat.The portions are typical German and they are huge, even after sharing. Didn’t have the stomach room for the dessert yet I see they have German chocolate cake there (wonder if they have Black Forest gateau but that’s for next time). They also have a daily special, the creamy mushroom porcini soup. Considering how great their creamed spinach, I am eager to try it next time during my mushroom season.Service is a little slow but that’s due to short on hands I think. They also have a secret back garden but it wasn’t open to dine in on the day I went. So sad, because the lighting inside of the restaurant is dark and Viking, yet outside is nice and shiny.

  • Review 55 (2023-02-18 - Rating: 5)

Love this place! It has been around forever since I lived in the city. Best beer menu ever especially the wheat beer. The liver dumpling soup is phenomenal. Also, the smoke trout especially is amazing. So many great memories. I have to come back to the city and definitely come back to Heidelberg.

Great almost 100 year restaurant in heart of Yorkville. The L beers are great always have a nice selection of german beers on tap. The potato pancakes are some of the best Ive ever had.

  • Review 58 (2019-06-30 - Rating: 5)

I dont remember the name of the dish, but it was insanely good. Pretty much all its surface was one huge crust - soo good. The menu doesnt mention, but it definitely feeds two!

  • Review 59 (2018-01-13 - Rating: 5)

They get their meat and drink from the beasts of Valhalla. Their beer and cuisine was some of the best German food Ive had. The gods must smile approvingly on the chefs and their staff.

  • Review 60 (2024-04-10 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 64 (2023-08-26 - Rating: 5)

Just went there on a Friday around 7:00 after an afternoon at the Met with my wife and three kids (10, 8, and 6). Great atmosphere with wooden beams across the ceilings, authentic German decor, dimly lit with wooden tables and benches. We ordered the potato pancakes, gurkensalat (cucumber salad), and pretzel for our appetizers - the kids loved them, as did we. Everything was freshly made and delicious. For our entree, we got the pork shank (Schweinshaxe) that was a huge portion for one person, so my wife and I shared it. It was succulent with crispy skin on the outside and fall off the bone tender inside. It came with a generous portion of boiled potato slices and we substituted the sauerkraut for red cabbage. It was just delicious and again freshly prepared. I had a great half pint of the grapefruit beer, and my wife had some Reisling. Overall, would highly recommend it, it was crowded, but we were able to get a table after calling ahead. They dont take reservations on weekends.

This has been my go-to German restaurant since my first visit back in 2011. Food and service has always been great. Ambience is nice. Its never too busy (but Im always not going in at prime time). One recommendation from me is the apple strudel. I generally dont like any desserts with apple in them, however, this one hits differently. Overall, great restaurant if youre in the area.

  • Review 74 (2023-05-04 - Rating: 5)

Heidelberg serves delicious German food in a neighborhood once called Yorkville and considered a German area. The dining area is classy, with lots of wood and old paintings. The obvious choice of entrée, the sausage/ wurst platter is wonderful and filling, served with potato salad and cabbage. Pork chops, pork shank, schnitzel and goulash are other good choices. Feel free to order a large pretzel as an appetizer. Heidelberg has a good selection of easy drinking German beers. Prices are fair, though not cheap.Service is fast and friendly. The wait staff is knowledgeable. You will enjoy Heidelberg, whether dining as a couple or a group.

God, I love love love this place

  • Review 78 (2021-11-16 - Rating: 5)

This is one of my favorite restaurants to dine in at in the upper east side. It’s so unpretentious. The vibe is cozy and feels like a German pub. The place is busy but doesn’t feel packed. I didn’t expect o be wowed since I was like how good can potato’s, cabbage, and schnitzel be? But man is it good. The food is outstanding - they make the best chicken schnitzel I’ve ever had. The German beers are also delicious and come out quickly.

  • Review 79 (2023-05-25 - Rating: 5)

No fuss lively and informal place. Its like you are transported to the black forest in an instant. Authentic decor, although a bit too dark for my taste. Big portions and nice desserts. Note that baby strollers are not allowed.

  • Review 80 (2024-09-16 - Rating: 5)

A must-visit restaurant if you live on the Upper Eastside or just visiting the area. The food is consistently great. I love the pork knuckle and the wiener schnitzel. Most of the staff are friendly and attentive, but I have had a couple of bad experiences with one of the waiters....although the amazing quality of the food helps me look past the occasional poor service. Overall a really nice place for a family meal or to catch up with friends over a beer and some great food.

  • Review 83 (2023-12-31 - Rating: 5)

This place is classic New York from the days that this neighborhood was home to many German immigrants. Traditional German cuisine never disappoints here, and they have a great beer variety too. Service is always friendly. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, but it is worth it from time to time.I recommend the Jägerschnitzel, and the Black Forest cake, but everything is delicious here.Stop by Schaller and Weber next door for some great treats to take home afterwards.

  • Review 84 (2021-04-04 - Rating: 5)

German cuisine, I honestly didnt really consider it a thing. In my mind, Heidelberg was a place in ancient Germany and a restaurant in NYC history.I took a chance and decided to learn a bit more about this cuisine and I was pleasantly surprised!Firstly, warm and hospitable from the start and thanks to some ease on restrictions, indoor dining was available to my party. We got our temps checked and sat down and checked out the menu. Even though I needed much if it parsed I was able to find something(S) for my taste. And it was all delightful! The staff was helpful at every single turn and we had a full meal and serving off the spread of offerings.I will certainly be back again on an empty stomach!

The best schnitzel and great beer. We went there Sunday afternoon and it wasnt too crowded.

  • Review 86 (2018-01-06 - Rating: 5)

My weiner schnitzel was incredibly good. Nice atmosphere too.

Such a beautiful little spot the staff is absolutely incredible and nice from the moment I walked in I was greeted right at the door by a beautiful woman with such a lovely smile and then upon sitting the waiter promptly came by he was so polite I felt so comfortable and welcome here this is clearly the spot to go to if you want to have the greatest dinning experience especially on a date. The food is incredible the portions are massive and the deserts are to die for and your having all this and not really breaking the bank its a experience we all should have if you want a beautiful dinner with great ambiance and excellent service with delicious food look no further than the Heidelberg Restaurant.

  • Review 88 (2017-05-16 - Rating: 5)

Been twice, once with my aunt who was visiting and once with 2 friends who were visiting. We picked the restaurant for something different. The food selection is quite good and the beer was great. But the best was the main courses! The meat was cooked great, pork beef and schnitzel all done very well. We even had the ice cream sundaes for desert and they were top notch.

  • Review 89 (2024-09-14 - Rating: 5)

My wife and I really enjoyed this place. The Jager schnitzel was tasty and the fried ham shank was delicious. The wine and beer selection was great and our server was fantastic. We will definitely be back!

  • Review 90 (2022-04-24 - Rating: 4)

Pretzel and potato pancakes were very good, sausage platter was ok, and pork shank was decent. Their blanket no strollers rule is stupid though, even small ones folded and when the restaurant is maybe 20% occupied.

  • Review 91 (2021-10-10 - Rating: 5)

The food and drink selections were impressive. However it was the speed of service and portions that I really liked. Make sure to come with an empty stomach in order to fully appreciate this place. If your planning to run a marathon this would a good place to fuel up.

Didnt get a chance to see the inside, but the outside patio is lovely and dog friendly. The service is wonderful. Super nice waiter!Great Oktoberfest specials (brews and food).Didnt think this would be a great place for a vegetarian but there are some options!

  • Review 94 (2023-04-23 - Rating: 5)

Absolutely loved it. Pork shank platter for three was perfect. Pretzel was the cherry on top! Great service at the bar

  • Review 95 (2022-12-31 - Rating: 5)

It was my first time visiting this restaurant after a friend suggestion. Although we waited to be seated around 30 mins as we had no reservation, the food was really tasty, big portions while the waiter was asking us during our whole eating experience whether we needed anything more or we liked our choices! Reasonable prices considering its location and definitely would visit it again!!!

  • Review 96 (2019-03-24 - Rating: 4)

This was actually our second choice to enjoy a celebratory meal, we were pleased we made the change. The staff was friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. The food was delicious severed hot and very flavorful, I had the jagerschnitzel just yummy. We enjoyed trying a few unfamiliar beers. There is quite a selection to choose from. The deserts sounded delicious but we had no room. We would definitely go back again. Try it and enjoy!!

  • Review 97 (2019-09-03 - Rating: 5)

An outstanding restaurant full of German heritage. The food was great from the potato pancakes to the sausage platter. The beers were huge and well worth the price for portion. Quality service food and atmosphere. Top notch restaurant.

  • Review 98 (2023-04-23 - Rating: 5)

Brought my parents here and had an incredible time. The food was consistently great from top to bottom. Highly recommend the schnitzel and the sausage platter.

  • Review 99 (2022-11-30 - Rating: 5)

As a German, this is my place in Manhattan for comfort food. Most of it is pretty authentic.Having the sausage bar and the Schaller & Weber store next door makes this a great one stop German experience.

  • Review 100 (2022-09-16 - Rating: 4)

Solid beer and pretzel experience. The pretzel was a good sharing size. Reasonably soft outside skin with a hot and soft interior. Drier than some, more like what you experience in Hamburg on a moistness scale. It would have been nice to have some cheese as well as many other places around offer. #PretzelTour score 6.5/10Potato pancakes were good as well. Sausage, I would probably get something different next time.Everyone in our party did get the toots afterward and we had those three in common (different drinks) so I would be wary of the pretzel, potato pancakes, and sausage combo.I would go back for the beer and pretzel.

  • Review 101 (2022-12-04 - Rating: 5)

THE Best and Most authentic German food restaurant I have ever experience. There Schnitzel and Späetzle are AMAZING and one of the best recipe I ever had. My husband, who is a born and raised german, almost gets mad at the fact there receipe is even better then the ones he had in germany lol

  • Review 102 (2015-02-01 - Rating: 5)

Incredible restaurant. The waiter gave us a great recommendation for the beer to go with our dinner. The pork shank was absolutely delicious, cooked perfectly with a nice crispy skin, served traditionally with a boiled potato and house made sauerkraut and a whole grain mustard. We also tried the spätzle there. Both I would definitely recommend!

  • Review 103 (2023-04-21 - Rating: 5)

Food was delicious. The portions are huge. And service was fast and so friendly. I would definitely reccomend this restaurant, it feels like being transported to Germany.

  • Review 104 (2024-01-14 - Rating: 4)

Good sausages and German side dishes. High-quality Austrian wines available. It gets very loud and you cant hear your dining partners when place is packed. Outstanding strudel.

  • Review 105 (2022-12-19 - Rating: 5)

A NYC classic!! Heidelberg serves authentic German cuisine with a cozy ambience to (das) boot.I came here for a holiday dinner with some friends on a Sunday evening. The restaurant doesnt take reservations on the weekends but although it was packed when we got there (6pm -ish), we were seated within 30 minutes. Not bad!!We killed the time by hanging out at their fantastic bar. If you like dark beer, try the hofbrau dunkel!Pro-tip: for dinner if you order the pork shank, get ready to share or else youll take the leftovers home. Its a big serving!!I cant wait to come back.

  • Review 106 (2020-12-12 - Rating: 4)

The pretzel with the mustard was very good! The beef sausage itself was pretty good (Im not a big sausage fan). Wasnt a big fan of the sauerkraut and potato salad, but maybe I just dont get it. I loved the German beers on draft there!

  • Review 107 (2022-07-15 - Rating: 4)

The potato pancakes (3 pieces) were good. The pork shank had good texture but lacked of some flavors to my taste.

  • Review 108 (2021-07-06 - Rating: 4)

The atmosphere is very nice and like a real German Gasthaus or Wirtschaft. The waiters are not authentic, but thats New York.Unfortunately the Bratwurst and potato salad were not very good and too sweet. The Sauerkraut and Mustard were great. My wife had Käsespätzle and they were pretty good too. Will try more dishes next time. I love that they serve Beer im Maßkrug and enjoyed a fresh Hofbräu Lager.

  • Review 111 (2022-08-15 - Rating: 5)

You must try that schnitzel! Juicy, big and absolutely amazing crispy skin you can definitely die for! Pretzel is good too. Real German ambience.

  • Review 112 (2022-03-07 - Rating: 4)

This place is the best way to visit Germany without needing to renew your passport. As soon as you step in you will feel the atmosphere and design of Deutschland. Many draft and bottle beers together with a classic menu is all you need. While not the best place for vegetarians, you can still find some great options. You can even order a beer boot, but beware! You have to make sure you learn how to drink from those before you start your festivities. Prost!

  • Review 113 (2019-01-14 - Rating: 5)

Exquisite German cuisine which I’ve been reliably assured is authentic. Warm atmosphere with exceptional decor gives the restaurant a wonderful feel. A little more expensive than I would usually like, but well worth it as a treat.

  • Review 114 (2016-09-15 - Rating: 5)

This restaurant has a great ambiance, with low lighting, lots of wood, and large, dark, German paintings on the walls. Tasty beer choices and delicious and authentic German food make it a fun place to visit. There is also a beer garden, but I have not seen it myself to be able to comment on it.

  • Review 117 (2021-10-05 - Rating: 5)

This is an iconic, near legendary German mainstay in what was once a neighborhood of German immigrants. There are no revelations here: just hearty, meaty, satisfying comfort food, served in huge portions and alongside good German beer.

  • Review 118 (2019-02-05 - Rating: 4)

A little corner of Germany on the UES. Start your meal with some spätzle, or a delicious buttery pretzel, move onto their wide selection of sausages, like bratwurst, weißwurst, knackwurst and many more.I love their sausage platter, so you can have a taste of three with sauerkraut, potato salad, and purple cabbage - love the snap and the deep flavor.Do not miss out on their delicious Schweinshaxe - aka Pork Shank. It’s oven baked and the skin is perfectly crispy and the meat is juicy and nicely seasoned. It’s served with a size of kartoffeln and sauerkraut. The place itself is very traditional too - low lights and wood tables, almost like a nice farmhouse. Would def be going back to try the käse fondue and the Wiener schnitzel.

  • Review 119 (2017-12-14 - Rating: 5)

Delicious food, but Id recommend a making a reservation because I didnt and got stuck in this weird two seater right in front of the hosts podium thing. I had the potato pancakes which were perfect and had a couple things to dip it in. I had never had Weiner schnitzel before but I tried it here and the portions were massive. Also you can get beer by the liter

  • Review 120 (2021-06-17 - Rating: 5)

Delicious meat and delicious beer. Dont miss the incredible Schweinshaxe!

  • Review 121 (2022-05-11 - Rating: 5)

Roasted pig knuckle, duck, and veal schnitzel dishes. This restaurant is one of the last remnants of Germantown, Manhattans Upper East Side from a hundred years ago. The food and atmosphere is spot on German.

  • Review 122 (2022-03-15 - Rating: 4)

Solid spot for some German grub — Im not typically the biggest fan of beer, but was quite happy with the lager I tried. The pretzels were on the salty side, but the sausages were terrific.

  • Review 123 (2019-10-25 - Rating: 4)

Good food but a tad pricey

  • Review 124 (2023-12-19 - Rating: 5)

Heidelberg lived up to expectations and was exactly what I wanted. A very warm, holiday vibe inside with decorations and great assortment of beers. The sausage trip was delicious along with the Jagershnitzel. Will definitely be back!My only suggestion is the waiter never came back or checked on our water. Otherwise great service!

  • Review 125 (2022-05-09 - Rating: 5)

Authentic Germany cuisine, good Germany beers on tap

  • Review 126 (2018-01-05 - Rating: 5)

The best German fare and drink experience I have ever had outside Germany. You can get authentic German lagers on tap and authentic German dishes in a charming atmosphere. Very friendly staff, wonderful food, and the beer is German. What more can you ask for?

  • Review 127 (2019-08-17 - Rating: 5)

Very tasty authentic German cuisine - go for any of the schnitzels - you cannot go wrong 😉👍✌. Their desserts are good, not great: the crepe was delicious, also tried the black forest chocolate cake which was OK... will definitely go back at some point to try some more of their dishes and the chocolate fondue dessert item 😊.

We go here anytime we find ourselves in the city. Delicious food, lovely atmosphere, and friendly service. The mulled wine was spot on superb. Kudos to the waitress that recommended it and who had suggested it for being out on the marquee sign outside of the Heidelberg restaurant.

  • Review 136 (2024-07-06 - Rating: 5)

We had been planning on getting sausages for dinner nearby, but the place we had picked out didnt have any seating. We decided on a whim to go here, even though from the outside it seemed totally dead (outdoor tables were all empty), and my wife was like do we want to go here? theres nobody sitting here?. We stepped through the doors and were transported to a packed beer hall in Munich. It was great! Delicious food and an incredible atmosphere. My wife has to eat gluten-free and was able to find several options that worked for her.

  • Review 137 (2021-01-24 - Rating: 5)

Went for lunch today and they had outside dining available. Even though it was freezing out we were still able to enjoy the bratwurst and jagershnitzle! Both were delicious. Brat was served on a bed of kraut with a sise of potato salad and mustard. I havent had a brat that good since I was in Germany. The jager was served with Spätzle and red cabbage. Delicious sauce and tender meat. A side of potato pancakes with apple sauce didnt last long either lol. It doesnt get any better than this folks.

  • Review 138 (2021-08-08 - Rating: 5)

As a German, I can recommend this place! It’s about as close as you can get to good German food outside of Europe. I wish the meals were served with an old style Bauernbrot vs. Pumpernickel but you can’t have it all :)

  • Review 145 (2024-12-16 - Rating: 4)

    Nice place and delicious food.

  • Review 146 (2018-11-19 - Rating: 4)

Ive been walking past this place for years and we finally made it in for dinner tonight. My wife is German and she was craving some German comfort food, which the menu screams. We had the potato pancakes and fried camembert appetizer. Both were very good and tasty. Particularly the camembert. Big portions, too (though maybe too big). For entrees she had the goulash and I had the roast duck. Both were properly cooked, tender, and remarkably good as were the accompanying sauces, knudel and spaetzle. Again, large portions. My martini was a bit off, which wasnt too surprising given the nature of the restaurant but the wine and gluehwein were both good once the gluehwein was sent back to be heated properly. Service was good and the ambiance was fitting. Well be back.

  • Review 147 (2023-06-21 - Rating: 5)

Love this place! I just went there tonight and the service was great even though I came in so late, and the food was amazing and had huge portions yum. Felt bad I couldn’t finish it but takeout boxes were made for a reason. Would come here again, and the atmosphere is great too.

  • Review 148 (2023-01-03 - Rating: 5)

My husband and I were so happy to find this place! We went for dinner before seeing a concert. Waiter was great, food was FANTASTIC. We will be back!

  • Review 149 (2021-09-10 - Rating: 4)

Delicious beer. Ambiance. Food is solidly German, heavy, and homey. We didnt order any starters based on the reviews, or desserts, but the meals we ordered, the Sausage Platter and Schweinshaxe, were 5/5. Though Id recommend getting extra gravy for the Schweinshaxe. Theres a full bar and the service is great. Pricing is a little weird for beer, i.e. $9.00 for .5 liter and $18.50 for 1 liter. Overall, would definitely recommend. Great spot for a date, friend dinner or post-work happy hour with colleagues. There was even a family here with a toddler. Great spot on the upper east side!
