    It was my first time with my friend from Boston and we came across Jalao and wow !!! It was perfect we ordered the sancocho and costillas Nonas and it WAS DELICIOUS!! Our server was Arelis and she was the sweetest super attentive and it felt like we were at our fam’s house. Super welcoming environment , please ask for Arelist to be a server you won’t regret. We will def come back when back in town . ❤️♥️

    Came here with a group of friends for brunch. The atmosphere was very family friendly, the food is a good portion, really flavorful, the drinks were made strong, and our waitress Yelina was the sweetest!! Recommended 100%.

    We had the morning breakfast buffet. The only turn off was the fruit. It was an enormous variety of melon and pineapple cut up in bowls. There were apples, bananas and oranges in the whole.The cut up fruit had fruit flies and house flies circling around and landing on the fruit.The rest of the food was amazing.A chef was available to make eggs any way you like them.

    We’ve been to this restaurant many times and they never fail us… I must say that Hector is truly amazing, has great customer service skills, he’s humble, super friendly and the team from the chefs to the bar they all work together and make it happen!! The chef Carmine my god he’s the best with his team, he’s skillful and knows his stuff!!!!!.Now my boyfriend has a goal to try every main dish and we are almost there, he has not yet been let down, the Sashimi tacos THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY THE BEST I HAVE EVER TASTED SUPER FRESH AND TASTEFUL, again thanks to Carmine!!! THE GUACAMOLE MY GOD DELICIOUS… Man just come here, they dance amongst each other at the kitchen and just work together!!! Our server tonight was Daury such a nice guy and attentive. I love this place!! Oh and the music is great too!! I promise you won’t be disappointed..

    Such a lovely impromptu brunch stop on a Sunday uptown. Really enjoyed every item we ordered from the appetizers to the beverages. Service was great and music & vibes were modern and representative of the diaspora. Thank you to our great server Nairobi for taking care of all of our requests.

    A beautiful restaurant with equally delicious food. I loved the ambiance and overall vibes of this place. It features a spacious dining area, split by a bar in the center, and visible kitchen with hardworking chefs.I loved the intimate seating with high back lounges and low lighting. It feels inviting. Our service was a bit slow but the food quickly remedied the “hanger.” The food was flavorful and delicious from start to finish. Our table sampled almost all of the appetizers and a nice variety entree dishes. Everyone loved their food. I would highly recommend this location for dinner parties or a nice night out with a love one. I will be back soon!

    This posh Dominican restaurant features absolutely delicious food served with panache. We had the empapadas, shrimp ceviche, guacamole with chicharrón, yucca and plantain chips, and a kale salad. We finished strong with the 5 leches! Absolutely fantastic. Also the cocktail was amazing.

    I had my departments Christmas party at this venue. Top tier service.Nairobi was an amazing help. So sweet and accommodating. Emad was Amazing as well. Made sure we had everything we needed. The food was amazing. Definitely coming back.

    Food was absolutely incredible, I cant say enough good things about the flavors. The presentation was gorgeous, you almost didnt want to eat it, it was so pretty. Wait staff was friendly and checked on us just the right amount. Only kind of annoying part was the photographer going around taking pictures without asking for permission or giving an explanation, and then coming back to try to sell you the kind of overexposed photos in frames for $30. Kind of felt like I was getting preyed on as a tourist since the restaurant is attached to a hotel. Still, Id definitely go back for the food. We were unfortunately not there on the weekend, or I would have totally tried their brunch, the menu looked great.

    Food was delicious. The service is good. The noise is something that is too loud if you are going to talk. The value of the food is a bit overpriced for typical Dominican food with a spin. The cocktail was well prepared, but it came after the appetizers. Overall 4/5 stars.

    Overall: this place is amazing! As a vegan I’m always skeptical about going to eat at non-vegan restaurants because I fear that the dishes are going to be quick cop outs just to add something for us to the menu… this was not that AT ALL. I had the Pastelon de Berenjena and the Guacamole with Chips and the food was delicious!! The cheese on the Pastelon had a pull and I couldn’t believe it was vegan!I wouldn’t go on an empty stomach because the portions aren’t your typical Dominican PLATO but I can say I was pleased. I do wish they had a vegan dessert option because I would’ve definitely ordered it.—————————————————————————Here’s a breakdown of my experience -Food: 9.6/10 super fresh and amazing taste! You can tell that the chefs truly pay close attention to the flavors, seasonings, and presentation. The way the food looked was just as great as the way it tasted.Service: 7/10 I did have questions and concerns and it didn’t seem like staff was very interested in assisting with anything other than getting you in and getting you out lol. But they did make sure to check in, clean the tables behind each meal, and fill up your water.Atmosphere: 8/10 the restaurant is extremely well decorated and clean. You can see into the kitchen from the seating area and it’s actually really beautifully done! I enjoyed being able to see my food being prepared. However this place is LOUD the music is blasting and if you’re trying to have a nice intimate date night, baby this is not the place to do it.Lastly, the bathroom sink does not work properly, water doesn’t come out of the faucet so BRING HAND SANITIZER and make sure you use the bathroom BEFORE coming here.All in all I would give this place a 9/10 (really a ~4.6 stars)

    Such a great traditional Dominican restaurant with a modern twist on classic dishes. I enjoyed the atmosphere, the music, the food and drinks but most of all the attentiveness of the staff. Our server Ariel was friendly and super attentive. I will definitely be back!

    I had the most amazing time at Jalao! It’s located in a very quiet neighborhood of Washington Heights. I came for the breakfast buffet while I stayed at the Radio Hotel, it was just the amount of TLC I needed during my stay. The food was delicious, hot and ready. The price was incredibly reasonable. The mirrors are hand painted and filled with mosaics, it’s truly beautiful.Jazmine, the hostess, was the most patient & kind. She took the time to make sure I had everything I needed, communicated with the staff and myself when I felt unsure. She is truly a gem, and she’s one of the reasons I stayed another day! I recommend spending time at Jalao more during your stay in New York City, you’ll be surprised in the best way. Thank you so much guys 💕

    The ambiance, the food and the drinks were really good. The wait time was a bit ridiculous, over 20 minutes for our entrees, not to mention the prices were a bit expensive for Washington heights (over 35 for an entree, cocktails start at 16). They do have late night happy hour M-Th till 12am so that would probably be worth checking out for drinks and appetizers.

    I want just to say, that I will recommend this restaurant, tonight we went there to celebrate my sons birthday. We had the most amazing experience, they were very accommodating and undemanding. We had a party of 10 people, and we couldnt get there all at one time, but the manager was, so nice and accommodated us. The food was excellent. The drinks, and the environment. Honestly this a restaurant & service anyone should experience. Thank you all of you and especially our server Frank.This Restaurant its worth of coming back.

    Loved it! Staff super attentive. Beautiful atmosphere and restaurant. Great location very centric. The food? Amazing! We have the bolitas de yuka, goat tacos, and goat croquets. The way to get to the bathroom is amazing! Love the art/painting on the walls. Super clean restroom love how they have music in it too. According to the manager other project are coming into the building like a rooftop and jet set. Cant wait!

    This establishment is located at the ground level of the new “Radio Hotel” in Washington Heights. Upon arrival the hostess greets you and assigns you seating based on the number of people in your party.This restaurant is an authentic Dominican Restaurant serving up beautiful crafted dishes to meet your taste buds needs.The establishment isn’t very large but appears to fit comfortably approximately 10-15 parties at tables and a few individuals at the bar.Menu was beautifully presented and offered a wide range of appetizers, drinks and main dishes.Our server Jairo was absolutely friendly and helpful and even made a food recommendation.Our appetizer was yuca balls with cheese and it was absolutely tasty and delicious. Our only concern was the uncooked black beans that served as a decor. Just seems wasteful and unsanitary.Our main dishes were to die for. It tasted just as good as abuela or mami would make it. The servings were large and filling.Our drinks were decent. We are hoping to return and try other items on the menu along with a more tasty drink.Our overall experience was great. The vibe feels high end, classy with merengue or bachata music playing softly in the background. We appreciate the attentiveness of the staff and the incredible dishes prepared.We hope to return. Highly recommend this establishment if you’re in the mood to eat authentic Dominican food.

    I had the pleasure of dining at Jalao with family, and cant say enough about the wonderful experience we had, all thanks to our fantastic waiter, Arelis. From the moment we were seated, Arelis made us feel welcomed and valued. She introduced us to the menu with a warm smile and genuine enthusiasm. Her knowledge of the menu was impressive, and she made sure everyone in our group had something they would enjoy. The food itself was delicious, but Arelis exceptional service, her kindness and professionalism, made our evening memorable. She even offered to take pictures and captured wonderful moments. We left the restaurant feeling happy and satisfied. Thank you Jalao and Arelis for making our night with family special.

    We visited Jalao last night and we found a traditional Dominican menu that you can find pretty much at any Dominican restaurants in the area with a bit of a twist, Like the chivo croquetas, the braised ossobuco, the pastelon with platanos con berenjenas, or the grilled avocado. other than that, just a regular Dominican menu. We had a reservation for 7:30 pm but unfortunately looking for parking was not easy and we’re about 15 mins late. We were able to find a garage just around the Conner that we didn’t see when we first arrived. The cost was about $20 but when we arrived to the restaurant we were able to get our table with no issues, the host was pretty amicable!My review:Service 4 of 5 she was nice, attentive and friendly.Ambiance 4 of 5 if you like to party or have a celebration, this is the perfect place.Decor 5 of 5 beautifully designed spot with traditional dominican features.Food presentation 3 of 5 other than the croquettes, the presentation was just ok.Drinks 3 of 5 I ordered the Passion fruit margarita it was just ok, even though I was told my margarita was one of the signature drinks of the house.Food 3 of 5: Following the waitress recommendation, We ordered the red snapper with tostones it was totally bland, and Moro de guandúles which I think was just ok, nothing special.The seafood mofongo with lobster had a nice presentation and it was really good.The “croquetas de chivo” was a nice selection of appetizer, they were different and just amazing. I wished I just had that as a dinner instead.We had The 5 leches cake as dessert and was good.I asked for the bathroom and it was out the door and downstairs? Not sure but I decided not to go.Our table was beautifully designed with red hibiscus 🌺 flowers but ours was wobbly 😐In conclusion, we drove a hour to eat at this place and I feel like I have to try it again, but if you want to bring someone from a different nationality other than Dominican I’m sure they will enjoy this place very much.

    Jalao NYC was a great dominican experience. The food is beautifully crafted, as well as the drinks! The service is also good. We had a minor inconvenience but the manager took responsibility and made our experience a great one after all. If you would like to taste a bit of the Dominican culture in the heart of Little Dominican Republic, this is the place! Keep it up!

    This restaurant is such a little gem in the middle of Washington Heights. It is a beautiful upscale like place, the decor, the food, the service is all incredible. I went there on a Tuesday night to celebrate my sisters birthday and although there werent many people the service was phenomenal. The food was traditional Dominican cuisine, delicious, the drinks are so scrumptious, and the aura of the place is just so nice. The hostess let my sister and I take a million pictures before sitting down to actually dine. Overall, the place is great, I absolutely recommend for a girls night out or birthday dinner.

    We decided to try the restaurant, having previously visited the location in Santo Domingo and loved RDs cuisine. The food was exquisite. El Chivo was cooked to perfection, the Churrasco de la Paila Jalao was tender and cooked just right. Our server Yelina and manager Hector provided impeccable service. The drinks were also delicious. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, we will certainly return!

    Update: Since Im still at the hotel, I figured Id give this place a second chance. Im glad I did.The manager mustve recognized me from before, as there was an adjustment to tonights bill. I got the Coconut fish, which was light, crispy on the outside/flaky on the inside, with a lightly flavorful sauce. I sat at the bar this time (get the Jalao mojito) and service was faster. Im leaving my original review up below, but I will say I was pleasantly surprised on my second visit.Original review:Im staying at the Radio so I figured Id give this place a shot. The restaurant is beautiful, the drinks are delicious, and the wait staff is very nice but service is VERY slow (my meal for one took over 1.5 hours and the restaurant was fairly empty). I ordered the salmon, which was good...until I discovered it was raw (not rare, RAW). The manager apologized and got me a new order, but this meant I had to wait a very long time for my food to arrive (without offer to comp my drink or meal or anything for serving raw food). I also got the lava cake, which was delicious but also took a while to come out.I was considering coming back tomorrow, but after this experience, I think Ill try some of the many other options in the neighborhood instead.

    It was great celebrating Father’s Day at Jalao in the Heights. Our server was Andy, Andy and he was excellent! His suggestions were on point and the food was phenomena!     OMG, I had the pleasure of meeting Frederick. He had THE BEST energy. he bought everything and MORE to the table and atmosphere. Quite literally the best service i’ve ever had. His energy made everything great. On top of that the food was the bomb!

    Came for an early dinner date with my husband and this place did not disappoint. It happened to be right around happy hour so we took advantage :) We enjoyed the Jalao Margaritas, I had the chinola and my husband the regular (both were delicious btw) Really liked that we didn’t have to sit at the bar in order to enjoy happy hour prices. Our waitress was Arelis- and I can say that she was truly awesome! She was super attentive and made sure everything was to our liking. She kept checking in on us and remembered everything we asked for even though the restaurant was packed. Loved the ambiance- overall I highly recommend this restaurant.

    Okay randomly took my here to lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Exceeded expectations. We got seated right away, our drinks and food were quick and service from Hector was attentive.     This was the first of many visits to come!!! The space is very spacious, well decorated with beautiful colors. The seats are very comfortable. We arrived during Happy Hour, thus, only the appetizer menu was available. We ordered one of each appetizer and each one was done and tasted amazingly. We had Sangria, both white and red...done very well. Music was amenable and at the right volume to hold a conversation without shouting. Lights are dimmed after a certain time, which makes the experience cozier. The service and the attention were superb. Special thanks to Corporan, Julio, and Frederick. Looking forward to when the courtyard opens!!!P.S. theres no designated parking spaces. You can park in the streets or park at garages nearby.

    Unique place and wasnt what I expected. This is located on the first floor of a hotel and pretty easy to access from subway. The lobby had a fun roller chandelier which made it very colorful.Came here for Restaurant week and did the pre-fix menu which didnt disappoint. Definitely a lot of food for the price paid. All the items tried were Chicharron de Mar (super crispy and a lot for 1 order..this alone basically filled us both up and the photo is for 1 serving!), Bombones de Yuca (could have had more of these...so yummy), Asopao de Mariscos (didnt try but looked good), Chivo y Chenchen (delicious as well, the corn grits were surburb) and the Tres Leches - absolute best!Service was a bit slow at the start as when we arrived there wasnt someone at the front to greet us, so we had to waive someone down. Once we were sat, service was fine with the food coming out pretty quickly. Overall Id go back to try other items and share things as having your own is a lot of food.

    The food and service is top-notch. Happy hour offerings could be expanded or at least rotated. The vibe is definitely upscale and the menu overall is pricey but it ATTESTS to the quality of the food and the ingredients they use. Definitely worth it!! Restaurant is a bit on the smaller side and bathroom is located in the lower level of the hotel lobby which is a bit weird if you have to use the bathroom. Other than that I highly recommend a visit.

    Omg this place was indeed an oasis in the upper west side of New York. Authentic and beautiful. The level of service that we received was amazing. Our waiter Ariel was absolutely the best.     Superb dining experience. Not at all your typical Hotel restaurant, just happens to be next to Radio Hotel where we stayed. Dynamic Dominican Republic ambience. My authentic and truly delicious mixed meat stew was only $26. Entrees in that range to much higher. Dinner for 3 with one glass of wine without tip $130, eminently reasonable in todays world. Attentive wait staff and the hands on Manager (owner?) was very friendly. Highly recommended!

    Visited with my wife and another couple on a Sunday afternoon.. we did not have a reservation but were quickly seated. The decor is very nice and modern. We sat and ordered some appetizers, such as empanadas, chicharon and seviche plus drinks. Like other reviewers say : the drinks took way too long to be brought to us . My favorite appetizer was the chicharron, the other two were not worth it since the empanada had very little flavor and the fish ceviche was mostly soup. The main dishes were good and portioned right. I must say that 99% of the menu is overpriced. Would probably return at some point since we did get really great service from our waiter Leo, and for us this is very important.

    I celebrated my birthday tonight with a party of 9 and this place exceeded my expectations. To start, let me say it was a surprise dinner. I thought I was just having dinner with my husband. When I arrived, I found part of my party at the bar and we got seated about 10 minutes after I arrived. Once seated the waiters were very attentive. There were at least 2-3 waiters at all times making sure we had everything we needed. The busboys were also very attentive and constantly cleaned our table whenever we finished. The managers came by multiple times and made sure we were enjoying ourselves and didn’t need anything. We ordered 3 appetizers and 1 salad and they were the perfect size for sharing and very flavorful. When it came to our entrees, everyone in my party ordered a different meal and we were all satisfied both with portion size and flavors. The atmosphere and decor made me miss Dominican Republic because everything was so thoughtful from the hand painted table tops to the different masks and the names of the plates. The music was just perfect, the right mix between old school and new. The volume was just right as well, the volume was not too loud to still be able to hold a conversation with people across the table. The waiters sang happy birthday and we tried the 5 leches and majarete desserts, all very good. Drink wise, my party had the sangria, special made apple martini and the Mercado Margarita. When asked if they could make the margaritas stronger, they complied. Overall it was a great experience, we will definitely be back and I recommend to everyone!
