The service was perfect and the food very delicious. They also allow split checks. We were a group of 14 people who went on hike and everyone was able to pay separately. I highly recommend.

Kismat in Washington Heights is a true gem! The food is fantastic, offering flavorful and authentic Indian dishes. The service was equally delightful—attentive and warm without being intrusive. But what really sets Kismat apart is its lively weekend vibe. On Friday evenings, the restaurant transforms into a live jazz bar, filling the space with smooth tunes and a cozy yet energetic ambiance. Later, the vibe shifts to karaoke, making it the perfect spot for a fun night out with friends. And let’s talk about their happy hour—it runs from 1 pm to 8 pm daily! Yes, you read that right. Seven full hours of excellent deals to enjoy their amazing drinks.Great food, friendly service, live music, and unbeatable happy hour—what more could you ask for? Kismat truly delivers a top-notch dining and entertainment experience.

It’s a local gem. Definitely underrated Indian restaurant. The food and service is in great shape! I had take out first recommended by my bf. It was memorable then we went there in person. We ordered bunch of food. They all great! Go try it out.

  • Review 4 (2024-11-20 - Rating: 5)

Dude… The tamarind sauce they have? Its soo good, the frozen margaritas hit the spot and I had the Salmon Tandoori for lunch..10/10 it was a big piece of fresh salmon in a killer marinade and some of the softest naan I’ve ever had.I was the first customer there and was surprised how peaceful the atmosphere was. The owner Sam was really nice and inviting, and my waiter was quick and friendly.I would definitely recommend this spot to all my friends and family!

Best Indian food in Washington Heights. Anytime I am in Northern Manhattan, I try to enjoy Indian food at Kismat. I like the Samosa and Tandoori. They make great Biryanis as well.

  • Review 6 (2021-09-04 - Rating: 5)

Kismat had been a favorite in the Washington Heights neighborhood for as long as I can remember, back when they were half the size they are today. I just had a wonderful dinner experience there with my mom and my dog. It is a wonderful family owned business that offers delicious food and a great happy hour. Although they always had a popular outdoor seating option, during covid they expanded the outdoor seating area and it is comfortable, family and dog friendly. My favorite entree is the salmon and spinach special, it is delicious and generous with their servings of salmon and creamy spinach. Of course an Indian meal isnt complete without an assortment of breads such as my favorite garlic naan. I also highly recommend the mango lassi, but I like to order it to-go and have it separately because otherwise it can fill you up quickly. Overall, such a fantastic restaurant that is perfect whether on a date, with family and friends, or enjoying a drink quietly alone.

  • Review 7 (2018-12-28 - Rating: 4)

If you like northern Indian food then you should visit this place. The best Indian food Ive had in a long time. The service was ok ok. Food quality was amazing here. But food was not spicey. I had visited this place with my friends. Everyone liked the food. They serve you rice and pulse as complementary and that was very tasty. But food was so costly I think may be because of New York as cost of living in New York is high. They have an ample number of vegetarian food. I would recommend this place without a doubt to anyone.

  • Review 8 (2024-07-23 - Rating: 5)

This place was very cozy and comfortable and had amazing food at an affordable price (I had the beef masala lunch special). The customer service was great, and the decorations and lighting made the dining experience calm and soothing. Lastly, we asked for the food to be as mild as possible, and it absolutely was!

  • Review 9 (2024-06-19 - Rating: 5)

THE BEST FOOD EVER. My family first time Indian food and it was amazing. Sam was the best on the drinks and the service was hands on our new favorite spot. The Caldwell’s 🩷

  • Review 13 (2024-07-08 - Rating: 5)

Had a wonderful evening filled with yummy food last Friday. It was a feel good dinner with friends of 40yrs plus. Our waiter and owner made us feel at home, providing expectional service. The owner in conversation, learned two us had birthdays earlier and another one us Monday, to help us celebrate she celebrate all 4 of us with delicious mango ice cream with a candle. We had many laughs, and crested a new memories. Yes, birthday wishes and delicious food. Thanks again!

  • Review 14 (2020-12-02 - Rating: 4)

Food was great, drinks should be stronger but it taste good. Nice quiet place.

  • Review 15 (2024-12-18 - Rating: 5)

Great food, best bar in the hood, very supportive of live music. One of my favorite places in NYC.

  • Review 16 (2024-08-18 - Rating: 5)

Weve been here many times over the last couple years and its always fantastic.

  • Review 17 (2021-04-19 - Rating: 4)

A community staple serving authentic Indian Food. The dishes were made to perfection. The poori with cheese could have been larger and more flavorful among with the other bread selections.Service was attentive and employees wore masks.Fair pricing for dinner for two. Definitely recommend Kismat if you’re in Northern Manhattan.

  • Review 18 (2024-08-25 - Rating: 5)

Weve been here many times and its always been lovely and delicious. This time though we hosted my father-in-laws memorial here and they were so kind and wonderful. They had a great projector set up for us for displaying photos and a PA system so people could give remembrances. The food was wonderful and they were all so very kind to us. I highly recommend Kismat and Sammie (and all the other lovely folks working there) whether for lunch, dinner or special events.

  • Review 19 (2017-04-23 - Rating: 4)

Ive been here before and after the renovation for my Grandmas birthday (she loves Indian food). I enjoyed my visit both times. The food is always very good and I like the buffet style setup they now have. I wish there were more spicy options though...I like my food hot! Still the service is always great and the food always delicious. Plus, they are always so welcoming and good to us even though we can be a large, loud group.

  • Review 20 (2023-01-29 - Rating: 5)

Having been to this restaurant before, it was the spot I chose to celebrate my wifes 50th Birthday party. I used their online service to make reservations and that was a cinch to do. I called the restaurant a few days before the party to make sure that the reservation had in fact been placed, even though I did receive a confirmation email.Street parking can be tricky but there is a parking garage around the corner and it only cost $25 for 4 hours.Once inside, the table for our party was all setup and awaiting the guests. I did bring a cake which the waiter carried off until it was time.Drinks, appetizers, and entrees were all placed and after getting lost in conversation, the appetizers began showing up which was rather quick! The entrees came out about 30 minutes later and everything, I mean EVERYTHING, was amazing! There were a few leftovers which were packed up to go.The cake was brought out and we celebrated. After having the cake, we just kicked back and enjoyed the atmosphere and had a great time. We werent rushed to leave, which was really nice.Kudos to the waiter who sat at an empty table and entertained my wifes 3 year old niece, showing her how to use a calculator.Amazing food, amazing staff! Do yourself a favor and give them a try. You will not be disappointed!Sidenote: The green sauce they serve is amazing and as one of our guests put it...The green sauce is LIFE!

  • Review 21 (2018-05-05 - Rating: 5)

Some of the best Indian food Ive had in a long time. The service was wonderfully attentive. The quality of food was amazing. I frequently have trouble getting food as spicy as I ask for, but there was no problem and the food came out exactly as I wanted. They have an ample number of vegetarian options and landed anything that is vegan and/or gluten free. I would recommend this with out a doubt to anyone. Even if youre staying downtown.

  • Review 22 (2023-04-23 - Rating: 5)

Kismat has been a favorite for decades. A friend and I order take out at her place since Im out of the nab. My favorite is the creamy lamb kurma. Good doughy, which a touch of char spots Nan bread. Nicely flavored pakoras (or bhajis called elsewhere). Yummy tasting tandoori chicken. Still highly recommend after ?30+ years.

  • Review 23 (2019-01-13 - Rating: 5)

Food is delicious! We go there when we want to treat ourselves to healthy, homemade quality, delicious food. Every entree comes with two small side dishes (lentil soup and cabbage) that are very nurturing. Happy hour is long and the appetizers are very tasty. I recommend papadum and chickpea dishes. The staff is attentive and kind. Service is very good. Hands down our favorite Indian restaurant in NYC.

  • Review 24 (2017-01-23 - Rating: 5)

Kismat is an exquisite dining experience. They have the best Indian food Ive ever had. Their prices are very competitive, and the staff is among the nicest and most attentive I have experienced in this sector of the service industry. A welcome addition is their new Sunday buffet complete with everyones favorites. The food is fresh, delicious, and it is extremely obvious the chef and owners take pride in what they serve to their customers. The spice level is mild which can be elevated if you like to live dangerously, making this a safe place to try the cuisine for the first time. I eat here regularly and will continue to do so.

  • Review 25 (2020-01-16 - Rating: 4)

The food is delicious although their size portions have diminished throughout the years. The price is also affordable for most household budgets. The staff and service can use some polishing, but its a nice place to go and add a little variety any day of the week.

  • Review 26 (2024-09-22 - Rating: 5)

Had Biryani and loved it. Also had rice pudding, and the pistachios ice cream was delicious too😍

  • Review 27 (2021-06-28 - Rating: 5)

Every time I’m in NY, I go to Kismat. They put their unique touch on Indian food and it is amazing. The service is wonderful, they really take their time to make you feel welcome and satisfied with your food. I would 100% recommended!

  • Review 28 (2017-09-30 - Rating: 5)

My partner and I have been enjoying Kismat for the past 10 years, the entirety of our relationship! Before, we were always satisfied with take out, but now, after the renovation and addition of a bar, we find ourselves there sometimes 3 or 4 times a week! The staff has always been kind and courteous, remembering our names and our favorite dishes. Jeremy, at the bar, is accommodating and social, and pours a mean dirty vodka martini, the best I ever had! Weve come to rely on the consistent quality of a variety of delicious vegetarian choices all spiced to our preferred Scoville unit. The green cilantro sauce is unequaled! Kismat is a great asset to this wonderful neighbourhood. It provides for its denizens a gathering place where we feel part of a family. Highly recommend!

  • Review 29 (2020-01-24 - Rating: 5)

Service is amazing, staff treat you as if you are family and make sure you are taken care of. Even when busy they make sure to still come to your table and check in. Atmosphere is beautiful, classical instruments playing and omg the food! Incredible would recommend 1000X.

  • Review 30 (2024-08-11 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 31 (2024-09-15 - Rating: 5)

Had an enjoyable lunch here with my family. The chana masala was aromatic and delicious!

  • Review 32 (2016-02-15 - Rating: 5)

EXCELLENT Indian restaurant. Its BYOB, fyi.Order as much garlic naan as you can; you wont be disappointed. The lamb or mixed tandoori is fantastic. Meats are tender and flavorful. The spices and sauces are great, and the wait-staff explain them well. The atmosphere is intimate and generally hushed, so it is easy to have a relaxing evening with great food and conversation at Kismat. We have ordered-in multiple times as well, and though still excellent, its not quite as good as being at the restaurant itself (the naan particularly suffers when not served hot and fresh). But such is always the case with food ordered to-go.

  • Review 33 (2020-07-19 - Rating: 5)

Second time ordering take out from them via ubereats I am still completely amazed. It is hard to find vegan options in washington heights so this place is a breath of fresh air. I ordered the aloo chloe grams spicy with brown rice and a plain naan with tamarind sauce on the side. fresh, flavorful, savory and authentic. I am not kidding when I say flavor. You don’t have to add salt to their food. Bonus the soup and cabbage that was to die for. True comfort food that has been a ray of light getting me through this sad quarantine lifestyle. Only thing I was missing was a vegan dessert. I can’t wait to come inside whenever that day is. Shoutout to the owners I’m your biggest fan.

  • Review 34 (2017-01-01 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 35 (2017-08-03 - Rating: 4)

One of my favorite Indian food restaurants. They just expanded the space so its has a nice atmosphere. the owner is friendly and they are beginning to notice that I frequent the place.

  • Review 36 (2013-07-06 - Rating: 4)

This is a great place to have in the neighborhood. We got the two person vegetarian meals for $35 and had enough food for two days. Really pleased with the quality of the dishes, and the freshness of the ingredients. Will be coming back to this place again and again.

  • Review 37 (2015-12-12 - Rating: 4)

Great Indian food, for the neighborhood. My wife and I sort of stumbled onto this place when walking up to Fort Tryon one day. Its comparable to the stuff downtown around 4th street in the village. Feels a little pricey sometimes, but not any more than other Indian restaurants really. Its a great place to order from on Grubhub and really hits the spot.

  • Review 38 (2022-08-20 - Rating: 5)

The service was quick and the food was delicious! I will be coming back!

  • Review 47 (2017-07-09 - Rating: 5)

Sunday Buffet [11AM-3PM] is a lovely experience, very relaxed and engaging--an excellent value...with the same quality and consistency their food and service has exemplified in Washington Heights for 30 years.

  • Review 48 (2021-04-29 - Rating: 5)

One of my first times eating Indian food but certainly not my last! The chicken Tikka masala was amazing as well as the shrimp. The garlic Naan bread with a variety of sauces from Tamarindo to cilantro were out of this world. 5 out of 5 for Indian food would definitely recommend to anyone!

  • Review 49 (2024-05-08 - Rating: 5)

My wife and I had our wedding reception this last weekend at Kismat. Our guests and ourselves were completely satisfied with Kismats food, service, and atmosphere. Our reception was scheduled from 3 to 5 on Saturday. Kismat was graceful enough to allow for the 30-minutes early arrival of our guests. The eight reserved tables were beautifully dressed and ready to receive our guests. Kismat separated our section from the rest of the restaurant which made for intimacy and privacy. They also set aside a long table to place the cake and gifts. A large contingent, including the chef and owner, at least three servers, and two bus persons worked diligently to make sure we had all we needed. Our party included thirty guests who were offered a five-course meal with meat, vegetarian, and vegan menu options. We are glad to have chosen Kismat for our wedding reception.

  • Review 50 (2021-12-07 - Rating: 4)

Food was pretty good, a bit overpriced for what it was but not bad. Service was also a little slower than ideal for how busy it was. Overall not bad :)

Weve been semi-regulars and huge fans for more than a year, but I finally had to post a review when I saw the one-stars—are you kidding? This is our go-to spot in the neighborhood for both delivery and dine-in. The food is great, the staff is so kind and friendly, and we always have the best experience. We appreciate a well-labeled menu too as people with dietary restrictions. Everything is labeled for vegetarians, vegans, and those who are gluten-free. Theres even vegan/gluten-free naan, and we are obsessed with the piazi. 100% recommend, tip well, support local restaurants!

Being located in a very tightly knit area of Washington Heights I think its fair to say its one of the best in the area. I highly recommend it to those looking for some authentic Indian food. Enjoy!!!

This is the kind of place that has developed a following of regulars, and you can feel it in the place. Very, everybody knows your name. If thats what you are looking for and you like Indian food, this is the place for you. The crowd seems to typically be 30+.They have a long happy hour 1p to 8p week days. They also have a $20 brunch 11:30a to 3p on Sundays. Live jazz on Friday evenings.

Ive been ordering from here regularly for well over 10 years, and quite often order the Chicken Makhani.Tonights version was NOT the same as it has been for over a decade, and I was quite disappointed. It is tangy & fruity & the medium spice level is higher than usual (possibly just seems spicier because there was very little creaminess to the sauce?) I wish I could describe it better.I am yet giving 4 stars, because I absolutely love this place! Perhaps theres a new chef tonight? Or its a fluke?I dearly hope they have not officially changed the recipe, as this version was NOT good. I will definitely call & discuss it before choosing what to order next time.

Service was excellent. Always making sure everyone is happy with the outcome of their meals, etc. The chefs specially made hot sauce on the table is a spice lovers dream. The food was delicious. Very pleasant experience all around.

Strongly advice them. Very delicious food, the service was one of the best and very reasonable prices. The place looks good and very clean. I loved the fact that the chef came and served us the food and talk to us about the way how he prepared it. Lovely place

Amazing! Excellent, high quality Indian restaurant. The gluten-free vegan Naan is so good and tastes just like normal. Samosas were great too. Dont skip the traditional Indian desserts on the menu!

Just had a delicious meal out in the lovely summer night from friendly, attentive servers. A lovely neighborhood sidewalk. The chef hand delivered his own, unique hot sauce. A great welcome to the area.

The atmosphere is nice the service is ok. They were attentive and didnt keep us waiting, but i wouldnt say it was friendly. The food is northern Indian style. Dont come here looking for heat, theres more of a sweetness to it. The spiced tea was perfect and the food was very good.

One of my fave go-to’s for Indian food, generally reliable and consistent and if anything is messed up with a delivery they always fix it. It’s also affordable and you get just the right amount of food.

Great food and the best, semi-secret weekend karaoke bar above 96th. It’s gets properly loud and weird in the best of ways. It’s a “Cheers” vibe meets “Bohemian Rhapsody” and a Hunter Thompson house party. Get the tandoori wings if you’re carnivorous.
