I went to Leitao with a group of four, and we really enjoyed our lunch.* The salad was fresh and flavorful.* The French fries came in a generous portion with a rich truffle flavor.* The octopus was incredibly tender and perfectly cooked.* The pork ribs were super tender, with the meat falling right off the bone!* The lamb leg was also tender and full of flavor, and I really liked the spinach on the side.* Even the roasted chicken was very good. For dessert, I personally preferred the sponge cake over the egg tarts -

Excellent Portuguese restaurant. Amazing food and top notch service. This was our last night in NY and the restaurant turned out to be the best one of the trip. Food like Octopus salad, beet salad, ribs, baked potatoes, even shishito peppers were super flavorful and arrived in above average size portions. Our bartender was Eric who not only made us world class drinks but suggested all the best food choices. He also surprised us with Pasteis de nata for our birthday boy free of charge. This was a really nice touch. We plan to definitely visit again when we are back in NY. -

Leitao offers a solid dining experience with flavorful dishes, although the overall seasoning leans slightly on the salty side. The service was great, very attentive and welcoming, which added to the enjoyable atmosphere. A great spot for those who appreciate bold flavors and great hospitality!Let me know if you’d like to tweak this further! -

Had a great time dining here. Food and drinks were very enjoyable, lots of flavor and well prepared, especially the octopus. Attentive service and gave knowledgeable recommendations based on our preferences. -

I eat in a lot of restaurants, a lot of them with one or more Michelin stars. But I can confidently say that I’ve never eaten food as good as Leitao’s. It’s a crime that they don’t have any stars yet. Their servers are insanely nice and pleasant. Their atmosphere is unmatched. The cocktails are amazing. But nothing even comes close to the arcane quality of the food.To put this into perspective: my mother hates pork. You couldn’t bring her to eat it if you gave her a thousand bucks. But I managed to convince her to try a single piece of pork and she was amazed. Not only did she eat the pork, she cleaned the plate. I had the beef sandwich, and it was divine. The beef was perfect, the bread crunchy yet soft on the inside. Oh, and those fries. Crispy, delicious, with a bunch of herbs that perfectly tie the meal together- all topped off with some kind of magic spicy sauce that left me astonished.Eat here. Just give it a try. -

5 stars because the food was excellent!Got the Sea Bass, chicken piri piri dish, and the beet salad, as well as the sponge cake dessert. Everything tasted amazing. Both the sea bass and salad tasted so fresh. The bass also wasn’t too fishy, which for me is a plus. It was delightfully salted and sauced. The chicken was also great, it wasn’t too spicy (the spice level was listed at 6/10 so I was a bit scared). Finally the sponge cake dessert - lovely. It wasn’t too sweet and it was the perfect way to end such a yummy (and heavy haha) meal!I also think the portion sizes are generous - could not have finished the bass or the chicken by myself, we had to get some stuff to go.The only downside is that the food did take a bit to come out, maybe 20-30 mins almost? And the place wasn’t too filled at that point. But the wait was worth it!! -
Review 7 (2024-10-28 - Rating: 5)
Loved everything about this restaurant. My favorite was the octopus salad. Chicken piri piri was spicier than I expected and the egg tart was a little too sweet for my liking. -
Review 8 (2024-06-18 - Rating: 5)
Incredible spot and staff. Had an amazing dinner night at Leitao, the food was spectacular and the recommendations from the staff were on point. I tried every single dessert and they were all incredible. Their cocktails were delicious (specially the spritzes). Definitely going back. Thanks to Alejandro and Raoni for the top notch hospitality. Highly recommend to make a reservation ahead of time. If you’re in NYC and haven’t been here, what are you waiting for? -
Review 9 (2024-06-27 - Rating: 5)
We loved this place overall. The food was good (the octopus was missing a hint of freshness and maybe some olive oil / black pepper) and the portions are huge (but maybe that’s just America) and the food is authentic! We thought the wines were expensive especially for the quality so maybe the cocktails are the way to go.The service was absolutely amazing! Our waiter was so patient with us picking a wine and very attentive. And finally, sitting outside like in Barcelona and Porto def enhanced the experience! -
Review 10 (2024-09-23 - Rating: 5)
Love Leitao - great addition to the W Village dining scene. Cocktails are delicious, menu innovative & inviting, tastes exciting, portions generous. Everything you want in a restaurant! We were a party of 4 & shared 4 starters & 2 mains. Loved everything but sausage flambeed tableside with panache a definite highlight, as was delicious sea bass, decadent “sandwich” and delicious beef in pepper sauce. Definitely adding this to regular rotation- inside looks charming & outdoor seating lovely. -
Review 11 (2024-11-08 - Rating: 5)
My girlfriend and I visited Leitao on a whim- and it’s safe to say we weren’t disappointed. We were seated outside under the warmly lit pergola, which definitely set the tone for the incredible meal to follow. The polvo (octopus appetizer) was phenomenal, as were both entrees and the bottle of wine we ordered. Definitely don’t skip this place! -
Review 12 (2024-10-19 - Rating: 4)
The food was nice and the service was even nicer. My friends and I came to Leitao for dinner last Friday. We ordered 3 egg tarts to share and the waiter brought us 3 extra on the house, it really made my day. -
Review 13 (2024-08-13 - Rating: 5)
Top-notch service; the food was authentic and amazing; the egg tart was a little bit too sweet for my friend and me, but our overall experience was very positive; would definitely recommend and go back! -
Review 14 (2024-11-12 - Rating: 5)
Amazing neighborhood jewel, the food was outstanding and the service provided by Gabriel was excellent, he made our experience superb by suggesting the most delicious dishes. Will come back for sure next time we visit NY. -

Outstanding food and service. The dishes recommended by our server, Dario, were amazing and left no room for disappointment.Dario is extremely passionate and knowledgeable of the menu, and he took the time to explain some of the dishes that he liked in great detail.Would 100% recommend and would definitely be back. -

My favorite discovery of the year. Easily the best Portuguese in NYC at the moment. After two visits so far I think the top dishes are Porco Preto, Robalo and any of the Polvos (Octopus). On the first visit get the Polvo Salad for that classic Portuguese Octopus in all its glory. But I wouldnt miss the others. Full report on Eatingwithziggy[.com] -

We were starving wandering around west village and for some reason we couldnt find anywhere new or appetizing. We stumbled into Leitao, sat outside, and at the most phenomenal croquettes, octopus salad, steak sandwich and fries. I will definitely need to go back soon. -
Review 18 (2024-02-11 - Rating: 5)
My friends and I came to celebrate Chinese New Year and everything was great! The seafood is very delicious, seasoned with fresh tomatoes, garlic and some spices. The meat is delicious and refreshing, with a very fresh and natural taste. I love it here and I will come again! -
Review 19 (2024-11-17 - Rating: 5)
Fabulous atmosphere and food! The outside seating was warm and comfortable on a brisk fall evening. I had the shredded pork sandwich … excellent! The servers were exceptional. Looking forward to my next visit … cheers, Nunu! 🥃 -
Review 20 (2024-05-05 - Rating: 5)
Authentic Portuguese Delight! I stumbled upon this exquisite restaurant thanks to a Facebook post. It brought me immense joy to discover that Nuno, the proprietor, hailed from my familys ancestral town in Portugal. Yesterday evening, my husband and I made the journey from NJ, and we were absolutely thrilled that we did. The cuisine was delicious, and the service was truly exceptional! We eagerly anticipate our next visit to savor the remaining offerings on the menu. -
Review 21 (2023-08-18 - Rating: 4)
I do not have enough expertise in Portugese food to comment on whether it’s super authentic, but @leitaonyc definitely has yummy food! The portions are quite big so it’s good to share as a group. This was still a lot for the 3 of us.The seafood with rice was seasoned well and made me feel like I was in Europe! The sandwich was delicious and special but very heavy so I could only have a few bites. There are so many options and any meat or seafood lover would enjoy it there! -
Review 22 (2024-12-27 - Rating: 5)
I spent a special evening at Leitao with my family celebrating my dads 85 birthday. The beautifully lit and heated outdoor seating drew our attention as we walked along Hudson. The staff were very knowledgeable about food allergies and carefully prepared my gluten-free dishes separately. The burrata and chicken piri were excellent. At the end of the meal, the staff brought out a birthday dessert for my dad and a delicious GF, baked pear in port for me. Aside from the lovely food and ambiance, its worth noting how kind the staff is...especially the manager Frank. -
Review 23 (2024-07-12 - Rating: 5)
Best cost benefit you ever going to find in NYC! We recommend this restaurant literally to EVERYONE that visits the city. The service is always amazing and the appetizers are so good that for a couple of times we repeated them instead of going to the main course (don’t get me wrong the entrees are amazing too!). Go there and you won’t be disappointed. -
Review 24 (2024-03-18 - Rating: 5)
WE LOVE LEITAO!!!! We were looking for a new experience for my Moms 75th birthday. We often have Asian fair for special occasions because we know theres something for each of us. But we also love other types of food so we decided on finding a Portuguese restaurant. All roads led to Leitao. And we were not disappointed!!! We ended up arriving earlier than our reservation but they had no trouble accommodating us immediately. The staff is beyond friendly, knowledgeable & accommodating. The food is spectacular. They took into account my Moms mobility & vision issues & even sent out a special dessert for her birthday! We love this place & will definitely be back! -
Review 25 (2024-08-26 - Rating: 5)
Mari is the best bartender ever! Amazing energy and was the cherry on top of some amazing food. Definitely stopping by again. -
Review 26 (2024-06-25 - Rating: 5)
All amazing! Great food with typical Portuguese flavors. We had the lamb and the codfish. Service by Victor was 5*. Will definitely come back -
Review 27 (2024-10-19 - Rating: 5)
I went there first as a musician to play for a special Fado night they have once in a while, and REALLY liked the place and was blown away by the food. But last night I decided to go as a civilian with my daughter, and we LOVED IT! Food was amazing. Top notch ingredients combined in not a very complicated way creating something magical. 5 star service. Friendly, quick, professional. Ill definitely return. -
Review 28 (2024-10-22 - Rating: 5)
This was my first time having Portuguese cuisine and I must say it easily has cracked into my top 3 favorite cuisine. I had a wonderful experience here from start to finish. The service was excellent, Victor definitely enhanced the experience of trying the cuisine, guiding us every step of the way making it truly memorable. The signature cocktails were flawlessly made and bursting with flavor, leaving a lasting impression with every sip. All the dishes were incredibly flavorful, perfectly seasoned and bursting with taste, making each bite a pleasure. This was truly a great experience that had me thinking looking up flights to Portugal next year. Great job team. -
Review 29 (2024-11-10 - Rating: 5)
I’m Portuguese and I have finally found a place that has good Portuguese food in NYC.Food and wine list are great. I really enjoyed the service, everyone was welcoming, specially Mariana, she was a lovely waitress.I recommend everything on the menu with the exception of Francesinha, which is not quite there yet. -
Review 30 (2024-05-12 - Rating: 5)
One of the restaurants we miss the most not living in the city anymore. The staff are incredibly kind and attentive, and the Portuguese food is unparalleled. Our favorites to share are the cod fritters, the 1/2 piri piri chicken and the sea bass. The sauces that accompany both are great, and you must dip the French fries! -
Review 31 (2024-02-16 - Rating: 5)
Leitao was amazing, we started with the shrimp, which was in an incredible garlic and lobster sauce. For mains, we ordered the Wagyu cheeseburger and sandes de pernil, and both were filling + delicious. We of course finished the meal with some pasteis, which was very good.Dario was one of the friendliest waiters we have ever met, and we look forward to seeing him again the next time we go to Leitao! -
Review 32 (2024-09-24 - Rating: 4)
If you are really after an authentic Portuguese experience, look no further than Leitao. Light lunch is a thing not known here, you will find yourself indulging in the rich delicacies on offer. Service equally matches the lethargy you may feel after consuming the copious amounts of cheese and meats available. The slower pace of service and some of the great wines make Leitao rather an oasis of calm and satiation. Despite the vast portion sizes, let the waiters guide you on volume and you should certainly pick a mixture of dishes to truly sample the offerings. -
Review 33 (2024-09-08 - Rating: 5)
I havent had Portuguese food until I came and ate at Leitao. The staff here goes above and beyond and treats you like family (thank you Victor). Pork ribs were fall off the bone and flavored so well. Every single dish tasted amazing from the starters to the main course! Will definitely be back here -

Review 35 (2023-04-10 - Rating: 4)
Portuguese tarts were delicious and highly recommend the iberico pork ribs.Tried the Francesinha which was interesting but it is a super heavy sandwich. Id recommend sharing between 4 people. Peri peri chicken was a little dry but the skin was crispy! -
Review 36 (2024-08-16 - Rating: 5)
Walked in around 9-10 pm on a weekday without a reservation and got seated with the option of indoors or outdoors, but it was still pretty busy around then! Food was amazing, 5/5 for the salad with octopus, the beef in sauce and the pork ribs!! Honestly wasn’t a big fan of the seafood with rice, the entire dish had an undertone of stone pot?? Which made sense because it came out in a stone pot but again, my partner and I did not love it.This place is very worth for the price of the food along with the quality you get. My partner and I would’ve been stuffed from one small plate and one big plate, or 3 small plates.Shoutout to Frank because he was amazing and put a smile on our faces :) Seems like a genuinely nice guy and love how he wasn’t pushy, checked in on us, had some jokes and interacted with not just us but other people eating as well.Would definitely return to eat again!!! -
Review 37 (2024-07-11 - Rating: 5)

Review 39 (2023-09-11 - Rating: 4)
Leitao is fun, lively and an overall good date spot with solid food and top-notch service. The size of their appetizers make it a perfect spot for a first or second date over drinks and light food.Every dish we had was great. The shishito peppers were seasoned and super tasty. The bife a cervejeira (basically sirloin in a savory sauce) was excellent and comes with a super fresh bread for dipping. But the real standout was the chicken peri peri, which is large enough for two people and perfectly spiced (my only reservation is that its a bit too oily). Not sure if its customary, but our waitress was so nice that she surprised us with two pasteis de nata (on the house!), which were the perfect ending to a tasty Portuguese dinner. Will def be back to try the rest of the menu.FYI Came here without a reservation on a Friday night and were able to snag some seats indoors, but would strongly recommend a reservation as it gets pretty busy. -
Review 40 (2022-09-03 - Rating: 4)
Very cute Portuguese restaurant. We sat at the bar and had the passion fruit margaritas. I was impressed that they used real passion fruit! The menu looked good so we will need to come back and try out the food. -
Review 41 (2023-02-14 - Rating: 5)
Delicious food, intimate vibes, and the best natas (little custards) we’ve ever had. We stopped here without a reservation and they were still able to seat us even with a larger party nearby. Everyone who works there was SUPER nice and we’ll definitely be coming back again, especially for the natas (comparable to ones we had in Portugal). We recommend the peri peri chicken which was a deliciously spicy dish and the arroz mariscos was full of seafood. -
Review 42 (2024-03-29 - Rating: 5)
Great place for a date night or to catch up with friends!Beautiful restaurant, excellent service, and amazing food. We had the cod bolinhos de bacalhau, franceshina (pictured) and cabrito de forno (pictured) with a super bock beer and basil cucumber margarita. For dessert we had the pasteis de nata. The menu was very heavy so recommend getting at least one plate of seafood to balance. We would order everything again and are excited to come back to explore more of the menu. Will definitely share this place with my Portuguese brother-in-law! -
Review 43 (2024-11-05 - Rating: 5)
We went to Leitao to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. My husband is of Portuguese descent so we are very familiar with the cuisine. He LOVED the Pork Alentejana (Pork and clams) - the pork was so tender and the dish was very flavorful - it was probably the best Pork Alentejana that he has had on this side of the Atlantic. The Bolinhos De Bacalhau were delicious, flavorful, and not too fishy the way Bacalhau can sometimes be. I also enjoyed the Sea Bass very much. And of course Pasteis Nata are always a delicious way to end a meal. The table next to us ordered the truffle fries - they smelled delicious. Though they were quite busy, the servers were very courteous. We cant wait to go back! -
Review 44 (2023-11-11 - Rating: 5)
Was there last night and it was an amazing night! We had reservations and decided to change the table for the bar and it was well worth the change. The bartenders are THE BEST and what every restaurant/bar in Manhattan should have in terms of service! The food, NO WORDS! We had the shrimp and the bacalao, it was amazing and it didn’t take long to come. The drinks, some of the best cocktails I’ve had. Can’t wait to go back for more of everything! -
Review 45 (2024-12-15 - Rating: 5)

Review 48 (2023-10-28 - Rating: 5)
Went there for Saturday evening food. A bit crowded, the staff sat us at the bar table. The seafood with rice is very fresh and flavorful. The egg tart was hot and crispy. Highly recommend. -

Small restaurant that punches way above its size with wonderful dishes. -
Review 51 (2023-03-10 - Rating: 5)
Food were wonderful. My favorite was Porco Preto, it was flavorful and tender meat with crunchy bread. I also had the custard tart. It was warm with fluffy tart with a hint of cinnamon and sugar. -
Review 52 (2024-07-07 - Rating: 4)
Burger was solid - cooked to perfection complete with a nice sear for added texture. Might like to see an alternative to the aged cheddar. Didn’t play well against the smoked peppers. And though I opted for salad over fries, I could not (and did not) kick the fries out of bed when they came instead.Adult beverages were also delicious. Though we suspect neither of them was what we ordered - at least not based on the garnish. In the way of complaints, that’s all we got.Great spot to spend an afternoon. Or half a day. -
Review 53 (2023-08-25 - Rating: 5)
Delicious food. We absolutely loved this place and will be stopping by again. The frencesinha was superb, and I really loved the sauce/jus it comes in. We also got ribs and shishitos, and they were superb, and just so delicious we could hardly move after. The sauce on the ribs was addictive. The waiter also gave us some complimentary fries with peri peri sauce which was also a nice addition. Stuffed, but extremely happy and will be back. -
Review 54 (2022-08-02 - Rating: 5)
Wow! What an amazing dinning experience. European vibes starting from the service, which is exceptional, down to the food which is absolutely delicious. Great flavor and did I mention the sauce/broth/gravy?! My god our table was dipping bread in any bowl of food we could get our hands on. Not to mention the stains I brought home on my shirt. That could have been due to the amazing cocktails we had to go with our meal. I would go back and eat there in a heartbeat. -
Review 55 (2025-01-01 - Rating: 5)

Truly authentic and delicious Portuguese food in a beautifully intimate setting. We had the Bolinos, Camarão Alho, and the Chouriço to start. Everything came out super fast. The Chouriço was my particular favorite. The Francesinha was amazing - a hearty dish with all kinds of meats. The Natas for dessert were perfect. One thing that stood out were the awesome drinks - the Amarguinha was like nothing I’ve had! Definitely have to go back and try more.Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, we had a great time. Check it out!! -

Review 64 (2022-01-08 - Rating: 5)
This place is wonderful! Nuno is the best host ever. The bolinhos de bacalhau were perfect — the right balance between cod fish and potato. The presentation of the Portuguese chorizo is beautiful. And the arroz de mariscos is to die for — the sauce has all the right spices, including saffron and just enough kick to make you want more. Last but not least the pastel de nata (served warm!) is as good as the best I have eaten in Portugal. Oh, they also have a great selection of Portuguese wine. This is a great find and I will definitely come back. -

My fiancé and I wandered over here after looking for a great place to get dinner when we were done with our evening at Little Island a few weeks ago.We got to Leitao and were seated inside by the window. Apparently the kitchen was closing and, since the restaurant was short-staffed, our orders weren’t taken before that occurred (despite being seated before the kitchen closed). However, the owner was very kind and made sure that we got to eat a meal, and I am so, so appreciative of his effort to make the situation right.I got the Sandes de Polvo (grilled octopus) and my fiancé got Prego no Pao. Both were excellent, and I would certainly recommend giving them a visit! -
Review 68 (2024-03-09 - Rating: 5)

Review 69 (2023-11-19 - Rating: 4)
Overall a good experience with excellent service and nice atmosphere. Giving it 4 stars because the signature piri piri chicken and the drinks weren’t that good.Service was attentive and friendly. We ordered the octopus salad, piri piri chicken, and seafood with rice.Octopus was one of the best I’ve had and you can tell they cooked it for a long time because of the tenderness. Seafood with rice was also good but nothing spectacular. The chicken was most disappointing, tasted very dry.We did get complimentary custard tarts for desert which was nice. Ordered the almost famous cocktail which was also just ok. Overall I think it’s worth a try and if I go back I will try some other dishes. -
Review 70 (2024-09-01 - Rating: 4)
I liked the pork and clams, Polvo and Octopus Salad. The lamb and sausage were good, but not for me.The camarao is OK but not something I would order again. -

Went here for a work event! The atmosphere is great and the food even better. I would definitely go back next time I’m in NYC.Some nitpicks: The music is a little loud, and the service was a little slow the night we were there (but they were a bit slammed). -

Been on the hunt for the really good peri-peri chicken in NYC and I think we found a winner! It was delicious, the closest we found to the one we had in Lisbon.Only downside would be the restaurant itself is so dark and the vibe is reflects that. -

Everything was so yummy, and Id love to go back and try even more. I would recommend everything I tried, starting from the octopus and the light cake with berries. One exception was the seafood with rice which was surprisingly bland. The bread was to die for, especially dipped in all the delicious sauces the food was served in. Dario was passionate about the food, gave great recommendations, and was very friendly. -

Starting to be our regular place. Every dish is exquisite and the staff is super friendly. This time we had Negroni and Fumo Branco; Sandes de Leitao and Lamb Burger; and our usual Pasteis de Nata dessert that is nothing but usual. ❤️ -

This spot is incredible and our waiter last night delivered stellar service. Very personable. Favorite parts of the meal: polvo small plate, pera em vinho do porto dessert, and the port tonic. But truthfully, you should order whatever sounds best to you because it’s all good. -

Review 87 (2024-08-18 - Rating: 5)
Piri piri chicken was incredible, the best chicken I’ve tried in my life. Polvo salad comes with a huge portion of octopus. And custard tarts were phenomenal, best in NYC by far. -
Review 88 (2024-11-05 - Rating: 4)
The food is OK, a weak 4. After having piri piri chicken at the most authentic restaurant in Faro, I thought this was close but wow, the insane amount of oil the chicken is doused in (see pic). Its hard to eat from the bowl and unless asked, a plate is not given. The steak sandwich was OK too, meat flavor is overtaken by the grilled onions so wouldnt order that again. Finally, the Pastel de Nata is $6!!! 4x the cost of it in Portugal. Good place but if you ever get to try Nandos, its more flavor! -

We had an incredible brunch at Leitao! Literally everything we ordered was so delicious. All of their seafood was so good, I especially loved the clams and shrimp. And the shishito peppers, a surprise hit! The cocktails also hit the spot, I really liked the traditional Portuguese cocktails they have on the menu along with the spritzes. Service was so friendly and genuine, they seemed so happy we were there (and we were so happy to be there!). One of my favorite spots in the West Village for sure! -

All smiles when setting foot inside this restaurant. As my friend and I were guided to our seats, I saw faces of joy and people settled in quite comfortably into their chairs. A bottle of water and a cute little vase of flowers awaiting us at our table, it felt like family friends preparing to host a dinner and you walk in with only a responsibility to enjoy your time there. Our waiter was incredibly kind, I really wish I had gotten his name to give a special shout-out on this review, but I remember he is Albanian, learning Portuguese but also knowledgeable of many other languages already and watched The Boys and Casa de Papel. He was friendly, helpful, and thoughtful! My friend’s surprised face when he brought out a pasteis de nata with a birthday candle for her, that was priceless. The service here is a big reason why I would continue going back. The food was amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed the perfectly cooked medium bavette steak sandwich, my friend ordered some delicious clams adorned with spicy salami and chorizo. We both enjoyed a classic, refreshing Port Tonic and reminisced about the time we first tried this drink in Lisbon. It was a fabulous experience, I’m thankful that Leitao helped make my friend’s birthday dinner so special. -

Awesome spot for a chill but delicious meal, especially if you’re curious about or are a fan of Portuguese food. Peri Peri chicken is special, as are the egg tarts. What made this place great was how friendly the service team are - they even let us hang out to catch up in my group post meal on a weekday evening as it quietened down later. Definitely a neighborhood spot! -
Review 99 (2024-04-06 - Rating: 4)
Crowded and popular, pricey but very good tasting food. Wish I had time to try them all especially the piri piri chicken. The octopus and cod fish were very very good. The passion fruit drink was way too tart even with rum in it...too bad they didnt have any cachaça...yea yea this is a Portuguese restaurant not Brazilian... -

Really delicious food! The Porco Preto was fall-off-the-bone with nice, crisp exterior containing juicy meat bites. The Arroz de Marisco was so flavorful and full of seafood. Great spot for date night. Just dont get the small table by the kitchen. You might get bumped quite a bit which isnt ideal. -

Went to this place for dinner on a Saturday night. I ordered different sea food items for appetizer and main dish. The food was served in order at decent temperature. All of the items tastes really great. I would recommend this place. The resturent is very crowed during the weekend. So reservation well ahead of time may required. -

This is a very nice restaurant to enjoy authentic Portuguese food. Authentic doesn’t mean it is for everyone. But I really like the tiger shrimp and the dessert. Service is good and warm. The sandwich is a little bit too much for me haha overall really worth the time to go down for a nice meal -

Review 110 (2023-09-21 - Rating: 5)
The overall experience was excellent - very yum food with every dish we had! i usually don’t like soupy rice dishes but this one was so good! enjoyed the soup. a lot of rice at the bottom makes the portion seem smaller than it actually is. cannot go wrong with the prawns and octopus either. the egg tarts were very thic and perfectly creamy with cinnamon hints. the atmosphere was very intimate too. the experience makes me want to visit Portugal again for its cuisine that is so unique. -
Review 111 (2023-06-13 - Rating: 5)
We had a group dinner here outside in the rain. The place had such yummy food and nice servers. They were very apologetic about the rain, which honestly couldnt be helped. Between five women, we had three appetizers, one salad, two entrees, and two desserts (plus one on the house). That was more than enough food and we all left very happy. The octopus salad and shrimp appetizer were my favorite savory items, and the poached pear was my favorite sweet item. -
Review 112 (2024-05-19 - Rating: 5)
Recently one of my favorite places in the city. Such good proteins- we love the sausage cooked tableside, the pirri pirri chicken, sea bass and bistece appetizer. We always get too much food because we want all of it!!The silent hero is the beet salad. Don’t miss that! And the beet me up cocktail is one of my favorite cocktailsIt’s a little hard to walk-in on a weekend but you’ll probably have more luck on a weekday. The heated patio is pretty well heated too but one side is open to the street so it isn’t fully enclosed -

This is our favorite restaurant in the neighborhood! The owner, Nuno, is very attentive, and the staff follows in his footsteps. We have tried many dishes and loved them all, but some of our favorites are the Octopus salad and the ribs. As other reviews mention, you can’t go wrong with their Portuguese cocktails and the craft brew selection. Highly recommend visiting this spot! -
Review 114 (2023-10-01 - Rating: 4)
Made reservations for brunch this past weekend and dined here with some out of town friends. It was actually my second time here, but this past summer I was in Portugal and I had a much deeper appreciation of the food this go around. We ordered the roasted beet salad to share amongst 4 people, and it was a good serving. Super fresh and bright. We also ordered the francesinha (which comes with a side of fries) and camarao ao Alho (shrimp in garlic and bourbon sauce). The francesinha was pretty heavy and too salty for my taste, but everything else was delicious. The shrimp came with a generous portion of baguette for dipping which made me so happy! We had discovered vino verde on this recent trip to Caiscais, so also had some with brunch, naturally. Although we were so full, we shared pasteis de nata for dessert. We had great service and everyone was very attentive and allowed us to slowly enjoy our food and conversation. We were seated outside, which was nice and the space heaters were very toasty! -

If I could give this place more stars I would. We had the bolinhos de bacalhau, the camarão ao alho, the amêijoas em caldeirada, and the prego no pao. Everything was incredible, and the bread they provided to dip in the sauces really made the entire meal. Will definitely be back to try everything else on the menu! -

The sausage is a little salty, it has to go with breads. The seafood rice, the lamb and the sea bass are great. But the chicken is a little too spice and oily for us.The best is the custard tart. You must try it. -

Coming in for solo dining on the Friday before the Columbus Day, and sitting at the bar. This is my first time here and first experience with Portuguese food. The light was a little dim and the noise level was ok. The food was really nice. I had Camarao ao Alho and (daily special) Camarao Tigre for appetizers, Peri peri chicken for entree, and Pera em Vinho do Porto for dessert. Given I have finished my food, I can be very sure that Camarao means shrimp in Portuguese. Both appetizers have bourbon in them. For peri peri chicken, I felt the spicy level mild: the spiciness was always there, and in low to medium intensity rather than crazy hot. The dessert was super tasty. A laid down pear sat on mascarpone with a cinnamon stick ran through the whole pear. There are also Tawny Port and black pepper. So it is not hard to imagine the dessert doesn’t make you feel cloying. Overall, this was a super cool first impression on the Portuguese dishes. -

My friends and I loved this place when we visited for a birthday dinner. The staff was incredibly friendly and gave us complimentary shots and desserts to celebrate. Everything we tried was absolutely mouth-watering — we recommend the porco preto, Chourico Portugues Assado and the piri piri chicken. And you must start with the truffle fries and burrata salad. If you love a fresh cocktail, the cucumber basil margarita is to die for. We will definitely be back in the future! -

We are fans of Portuguese cuisine and finally had an authentic meal in NYC from Leitao. Their outdoor dining is simple and cozy with limited seating.Their menu is well designed even with videos to show how it looks like so it made us easy to decide what to order. We got Salad de Polvo, Ameijoas em Caldeirada, Cabrito no Forno and Sandes de Pernil to share with a group of 4.The food was impressively delicious with reasonable price & portion. Our favorites were the clam bowl which was extremely appetizing and the satisfying shredded pork sandwich. We also love their Pasteis de Nata which was extremely creamy and rich. -

Great craft beer selection on a rotating basis with good coverage of different beer styles (have you noticed recently a lot of places dont have stouts or porters, whats the deal with that?). Nice to see some thought put into the selection, there are some good IPA and Lager choices, but some others as well. And always a few farmhouse styles. The food here is a bit upscale pub grub and the service is usually very good (I havent had any bad experiences). Friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. -
Review 149 (2023-10-14 - Rating: 5)
From start to finish- a delight! Passion fruit margarita was even better than served at agaverias uptown, nice touch to have a scoop of fresh passion fruit as an edible garnish. The bifes à cervejeira is the best presentation of sirloin I’ve seen. Leitao has taken the inspiration of traditional Portuguese food but made it their own. The bolinhos de bacalhao may not be equal to my grandmother’s larger bolos, but tasty. The shrimp and garlic dish, like the sirloin are served with enough toasted bread to get every last savory drop. Ports won’t disappoint, nor will the pasteis de nata and the pao de Lo with fruit and sheepsmilk cheese. Great service , and atmosphere! -
Review 150 (2022-07-30 - Rating: 5)
Leitao has delicious food and generous portions! The staff is also very friendly and warm. We had an issue with our food taking a long time (Friday night busy-ness, plus one of the kitchens ovens broke that night, then they sent half our apps to the wrong table). But the owner/manager was extremely apologetic/nice about it, and he took care of us to make things right. Bad luck/hectic day, I get it, it happens -- I would definitely give them another shot and come back! -

The clams were the most authentic execution of Portuguese cooking Ive seen in the States. Succulent and flavorful, using small tomatoes to mimic the quality of Portuguese produce. The outlier of the meal was unexpected, a surprise from the host in the form of a perfectly balanced chocolate mousse and the very best blueberry and cheese (for lack of an English equivalent) custard in parchment. It was, bar none, the best thing this foodie has eaten in a full half century, and she doesnt prefer dessert. If you are a human liver of food, come here and let the host decide what you eat. -

I visited Upright Brew House on a Tuesday with a couple of friends based on another friends recommendation. Place was fairly busy considering it was a Tuesday and the bar is relatively new. They have a full beer list and the bartenders were knowledgeable on what they were selling. The decor was really refreshing, simple and clean and the food was great overall. Pricing was reasonable as well. Would definitely go back there. -

We had a reservation at Leitao for dinner and arrived about 30 mins early and was invited to sit at the bar until our table was ready. Originally we opt for the outside heating area and since temperatures seemed to have fallen we were able to change our resy to indoor. We saw the seating area, but I am not sure if the heating lamps are comfortably powerful when temps are 30-40 degrees. While waiting at the bar we were able to order drinks and the bartender was very friendly. There is an area right behind the bar seating where you can hang your coat, which I thought was perfectly placed. Once our table was ready we were seated and we ordered Piri Piri chicken and the Seafood with rice. Both dishes were extremely delicious and full of so much flavor! We shared both dishes and even left with leftovers of the Seafood with rice. We were stuffed! The service was great. The staff was attentive and very helpful with cocktail recommendations. Although they didnt have some liquers that we requested they were still able to come up with substitutes for us. We enjoyed our stay so much that we didnt realize that Leitao closes at 11pm. The staff did not even rush us (and other patrons) to leave. They were all so kind and hospitable. Ill definitely return to Leitao in the future! -

So go for a date, or just hang at the bar for after-work drinks. If youre new to craft beer, the staff is quick with suggestions and tastes. -

I dont usually leave reviews, but this place really deserves five stars and some good words... How does a place survive under covid restrictions? Do exactly as Upright. Excellent and very friendly service, beyond delicious Portuguese dishes - octopus, chicken Piri Piri, Arroz de Marisco (like a paella)...meatballs, great sandwiches, and the beer selection is wide and good. *(Was really happy one time when two different staff who knew I like dark lagers were eager to tell me about their new acquisition.) And then theres the atmosphere. Its outside and they did it right. Well-heated even though still almost open air, a good number of tables, great clientele... I always leave there with a big smile. -

Great place with friendly staff. We usually swap a beer so we can try different brews and I thought they gave us the wrong beer after the swap. I asked if I was drinking what we ordered and they just handed us the correct one without being difficult about us already drinking over half of the wrong one. The beer selection is great too. -

Great time had by all. Fantastic array of beer and wine choices. Prices are what you would expect for the area. Staff is attentive and very knowledgeable. Eclectic dive bar feel with better than average bar foods and drinks. Worth your time to give it a try. -

This place had a great happy hour and craft beer selection. They have pretty obscure beers that Ive never even heard of. Their happy hour is until 7pm. You can get $2 off drafts and wine so its like $6-$7 for a beer. Also, they have $5 appetizers during happy hour as well. I recommend the half dozen wings for $5. Theyre actually pretty large and come with celery/carrot sticks. Its a good deal. -

Spectacular food and service from the whole team and specially Victor that went above and beyond to make sure we had a wonderful experience! Every part of the meal course was well prepared, following the principles of the genuine Portuguese cuisine. The chouriço, bife, bacalhau, cabrito, and piripiri chicken were outstanding. Not to mention the desserts with pastéis de nata and a wonderful chocolate mousse with touches of almond. Closed with a Porto wine for a great experience!!! -

A total neighborhood gem in the West Village. I recently visited Portugal and chose this place because the menu looked very authentic to what I had eaten in that country. Leitao definitely did not disappoint; the food and drinks were fabulous and the staff was extremely friendly and made sure we were well taken care of. Cant wait to recommend this to others and return to try the rest of the menu. Make sure you save room for the pasteis de nata for desert! -

Wonderful food, great service. Highly recommend.Low key outdoor summer experience with excellent Portuguese food! Everything we had was memorable; the clams, grilled meat, octopus, pastel de nata, etc. We did a summer Saturday night so it was a great vibe too. Not hard to get a table on a Saturday for 4 either. -

LOVED this restaurant. They have a fairly small menu, but everything on it seems really good. They also have little videos in the menu, so you can really see what youre getting. -

Attended Happy Hour on a Sunday, which is daily from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and includes $2 off drinks and appetizers. Has an excellent and wide-ranging beer selection, but also a decent amount of wines and bottles. We ate the Nachos, Pickles, Burger, and BLT. Basically good bar food, and a nice place to spend a Sunday afternoon. -

I grew up in Louisiana (the place where everyone says Oh, Ive always wanted to try the food from there, I hear its amazing), and I honestly dont know if Ive ever had food THIS flavorful. Its simply SPECTACULAR! Its spicy, but no so much to be *just* spicy. Its the ideal amount to add great flavor to a dish without overpowering the main flavor, and not to mention everything is cooked to perfection. I ordered the chicken piri and that chicken was the juiciest meat Ive had in my entire life. Im writing this review a few weeks after I ate there, and I still think about that meal at least every couple days.Im not even a big fan of clams, but when the chef, Nuno, brought us out a bowl of the Ameijoas em Caldeirada, my brother and I ate every drop we could and then took the rest home because we were not about to waste ANY of this exquisite cooking. And if the cooking werent good enough reason alone (and trust me, it is), Nuno himself was often conversing with tables and greeted several people by name. I wouldve happily eaten here with someone yelling at me the entire time, but the friendliness just takes it a step beyond anywhere Ive ever eaten. If you live in NYC and this isnt on your list of frequented restaurants, youre missing out BIG time. -

Amazing food! This is an amazing Portuguese no freels place to eat. For starters, we had the bolinho de bacalhau, amazing cod fish dumplings. The cabrito (lamb), the francesinha (french inspired sandwich - much like Portuguese croque monsier) and the arroz de marisco (risoto like sea food dish) are the high point of the food experience. For drinks, there is an extensive Portuguese drinks menu, but Porto Tonic is the best one! For dessert, the pastel de nata is amazing, you cant go wrong. If you pair them with Porto wine, then you get yourself all the way to Portugal. I went there for the food, but I was surprised to see a real club like feel on the way out. Young people talking and having fun while drinking and eating decent stuff was a must. You wont regret coming here -

Food, vibe, service, all on point. Everyone was really friendly and the food was innovative. The saltiness of the bacon on top of the octopus was a bit unnecessary. Id dial that back and let the octopus speak for itself with the sauce -

Loved the food, loved the team here. If you have the pleasure of stopping by, definitely try the clams, shrimp, and half chicken. Made with so much love that I teared up low key.
