    A great place in the neighborhood to have dinner with exquisite drinks and desserts. Me and my partner throughly enjoyed our meal here. The food was flavourful. My dragonfruit margarita was spectacular and so aesthetically pleasing. The dessert was top notch and was actually made at our table. A great experience coming here all around.

    The best Mexican food outside of Mazatlan. The Sangria was perfection. Great appetizers-nachos & guacamole. But the complimentary chips and salsa verde is so good it should be bottled and sold.Dish one:We had arros con Pollo. The rice was fluffy & flavorful. The chicken was generously distributed in the dish. Not this 1 or 2 strips & a big dry plate of rice. Nope, all the flavors melded together.Dish Two:Lamb Barbacoa tacos.Could have doubled this Dish. Every one at the table grabbed a taco but luckily the other two dishes were generously portioned so there were 3 starving people.Dish 3:Tanque Burritos.Thinly sliced pieces of pork, cooked in what must be the same flavourful green sauce and then wrapped in warm flour tortillas & covered with sauce & cheese. Lots of delicious cheese.We had coffees & dessert as well. I? Was a little drunkie.Maria, our hostess was gracious as always. And our service was impeccable.Sabor!

    Came to celebrate a friends birthday! Super fun! The vibes were great! Staff was amazing & kind! The aroma of the resturant fit so into the Mexican culture. I love seeing restaurants fully represent our Mexican culture. Would recommend. Amazing drinks! Wish the food was a little more spicy:)

    Walking from the Met Museum to this place was worth every step.Maria, the hostess is very engaging and personable.One wait staff has a voice over sound that makes you want to close your eyes to mindfully enjoy the sound.This has now become my MexicanRestaurant in the city.People passing the restaurant peek in to say hello and the promenade is a delight to take in and enjoy the passing sights and sounds.Lummett Proseco was imbibed by me and tequila was ordered by my guests w/o abandon, mango, watermelon and magaritas were full bodied and kept coming to the table.The chicken tacos were accompanied by various liquid sauces and salsa.The quacomole was fresh and flavored with a selected favorite-- onion.Cheese,spinach and a mushroom quesidella was devoured and the food impacted our flavor buds and sensory caps.The bathroom facility was spotless and extremely decorative.The overall decor reminded me of dining venues in Cancun.The tile designs are ornate with warm ochre and creme colors remind me of past experience of the tileworks of restaurants in Austin and Dallas.Although I missed the live musicians of Mexico who serenade groups of diners,Maria invites conversations when she is not busy.Fun and great fare is noted.I finished my meal with the chocolate mud cake and Vailla ice cream.Go and pamper your spirit and belly!

    Bartender is from Guerrero and knows his Mezcal. They have some bottles there I havent seen anywhere else. Not the grandest collection of Mezcal in NY, but a solid representation of quality! Lets see if the UES knows good Mezcal.

    Authentic & delicious FOOD. Mole is a 10/10. Highly attentive, friendly SERVICE. Combo of excellent food & service is very hard to beat on the UES, especially with such an extensive selection of quality tequilas & mezcals. Since we started coming here a few months ago, it’s quickly become our favorite neighborhood spot.A big plus: The owner, Maria, loves dogs and has been quite kind to ours (offering us a tablecloth for her to lie down on since she doesn’t like the concrete floor outside)! 🐶 This is a family-owned restaurant, and it shows in how they treat their customers.

    Amazing, friendly and helpful staff and great food! A true rock of the UES neighborhood. Warm and cozy atmosphere. Perfect place for any occasion, be it a birthday, get together, festive occasion ora fun event like Halloween or New Year’s Eve. Maz is always a great choice no matter what!

    The Mole pablano was great! Deff worth going back for. Also go the Short rib Mole but I say stick with the chicken Pablano. Guacamole was light and creamy and could add in pomegranate which was dope. Drinks were lovely too!

    I have loved this place for many years. Everytime I visit new york I make sure to eat here. Everything from the chips and dips before your meal, the drinks, the food is just perfect. The staff are warm and welcoming, I wish I could move them to England.

    Maz is a neighborhood staple. I’ve been coming here for almost two decades. The service is the best and so is the food. Their dishes are simple but packed with flavor and incredibly consistent. I love it here!

    This place has been here for many years and is always great. In addition to festive indoor dining, they have plenty of outdoor dining tables. There is a wide variety of drinks that are strong. The food is terrific from simple to big platers. The salsa is usually mild. I never had anything here that was too spicy unless you add extra yourself.

    We really enjoyed this place! Stopped by on a whim with our toddler and staff was very accommodating to get us a table with high chair and bring her water in straw cup, etc. Everyone was very nice, the place is incredibly spacious, with lots of outdoor options and open -air indoor options. Food was very tasty. We live in the neighborhood so are used to the prices, but there are a couple of similar spots nearby with slightly lower prices. But the ambience, service, and quality of food here was excellent. Good date night spot...somewhere between casual/comfortable and classy.

    Excellent family owned mexican restaurant hidden on 86th street. Great atmosphere for dining in. The margarita selection is extensive and well done. However the food is the main attraction with the mole dishes being some of the best in the area.As some reviews have stated here, the hostess/owner can be a little discourteous. However from my experience, it is usually in response to people being obnoxious, expecting some unreasonable level of service, and dont understand the concept of reservations and staffing levels. If you are easily offended, have unrealistic expectations for hospitality workers, and frequently like to ask for the manager at restaurants then you are going to have a bad time.

    Restaurant is lovely and colorful. The guacamole and salsa verse are delicious. Had the steak and pork fajitas - pork was a bit chewy but the steak was just right and so were the fajita veggies. On pony cafe con leche! Great service.

    One of the best Mexican restaurants in NY. Great menu. Tasty dishes and great service. Need I not mention the drinks! Yes a fantastic choice and well made. Smaller bar but you can hang there for a long time with two fantastic bartenders who like to give out samples of the drink menu. This place has been in business for a long time and there is a reason why.

    Have been going here for the past 25 years and love it each time. I crave their salsa Verde while living abroad. Fun atmosphere, reliable food. We had the Acapulco, the Mazatlan, the fish tacos and the enchilada Verdes.

    Fantastic food, great drinks and even better employees. Francisco behind the bar is the best! 💃🏼The shrimp quesadilla is one of my favorites on the UES & the steak fajitas is a must. If you’re thinking of coming here, do it. You won’t be disappointed!

    My family loved this place. It was very kid friendly - the hostess went above and beyond to welcome us. The food is incredible - a slightly fancy take on traditional Mexican food. We all loved it. The burrito was incredible. They have great homemade salsas and chips, and the chips are served hot! One of the best margaritas I have ever had. And the service was extremely attentive and kind. Go here now!

    Really tasty and reliable. The Acapulco platter was a great pick with a beef taco, chicken enchilada and chicken tostada ($23.95) and rice and beans.Indoor and outdoor seating. Good service. Good margaritas. The sirloin steak topped with tequila and jalapeño butter was a winner.

    This place is perfect for a family dinner or cocktails with friends. The staff is all very accommodating, and the owner is a great lady. The food is good and reasonably priced, unlike 90% of Mexican restaurants in NYC. The guacamole and fajitas are fantastic and taste even better washed down with one of their delicious lime margaritas on the rocks.

    I love this restaurant! The food and drinks are excellent. More upscale than the usual Tex-Mex taco place, this is authentic Mexican cuisine for adults (although children are always welcome). The owners, Maria and Eduardo Silva, are gracious hosts and the pride they take in their business is evident in everything from decor to food to service. Make sure to call for a reservation, especially on weekends; this is a neighborhood favorite!

    The food was great portions are large and the chips and salsa standout as one of the best. However, the price of the plates along with the quality of the food since its taste like many other cheaper Mexican restaurants make it hard to recommend as a favorite spot. However if you are in the area and would lime to be surrounded in a great atmosphere and have an itch for Mexican food, you wont be disappointed.

    I have been going to this place for 15 plus years and I can not ever think of a time where I did not love the food. The service is great and the food is delicious. The tomatillo sauce that give you with chips before the meal is amazing. They should bottle it and I would always keep it in my kitchen. They also have great margaritas which are expensive but worth every penny. I can never drink more than two.This place by far is one of my favorite places to eat and if you are in the area it is a must try.

    We stopped in because we were in the neighborhood, had excellent meals (Mole enchiladas for me, huevos rancheros for my wife). Really wanted to leave a review, though, because of the hospitality--we sat at the bar and the bartender was incredibly friendly and just made our visit memorable.     What a wonderful experience this place was! From the moment I walked in the door, I felt welcome in this warm and cozy place. Yes, it can be a bit noisy, but you are after all in NYC.The margarita and mojito selections are creative and delicious, striking just the right balance of sweet and tart, not an easy feat.The basket of tri-color chips and array of dipping sauces are scrumptious, but dont fill up on them because the food is really tasty.Not your typical glump of color and flavorless beans and tacos, MazMezcal prepares everything so that it arrives hot, fresh tasting and so good that you just want to keep on eating, long after the food is done (not to say that the portions are skimpy, they are not! its just that the food was so good, you didnt want that to end).My dining companions had the churros for dessert which they didnt love, but thats not a reason to turn away. This is the kind of place that NY used to have, a great local spot that makes you feel like you are among friends.

    Mez Mezcal is literally my favorite restaurant in NYC! Its rare these days to find a restaurant in NYC that has not only been as successful (even thru Covid-19), but that has been gracing the Upper Eastside, and dazzling its customers pallettes for over 50 years!From the moment you walk in and are greeted by the owner Maria, who is usually at the entrance, you are treated like family!The Menu is packed full of one amazing dish after another. I personally can not get enough of their Paella, and the Nachos Combinados are my favorite appetizer! And of course what kind of Mexican reataurant would it be if it didnt have one of the tastiest Margarittas in the 5 Boros, take it from me...Ive had plenty!The staff behind the bar are hands down the nicest guys youll ever meet. Ruffo and his team of bartenders are the best!Go check it out..the Food is excellent, high quality and always fresh, and the atmosphere is like youve walked into a family reunion...the only difference is youll love the Mez Mezcal family a lot better! :-)

    An old favorite rediscovered on a Saturday night. Families enjoying a separate room, but convivial owner and cozy atmosphere. Much as remembered. Chile relleno excellent. Mole poblano a lot but good. As was steak and shrimp. Sauces are delicious and waft in a pleasant greeting as you enter. Glad to find it again.

    Ive loved this place for 10 years but the past few it has become a baby screaming dumpster fire. Recent menu updates are eh. Its a shame but I cant come back. Literally was my favorite, and most recommended restaurant in the city.They made it right. Best Mexican in the city!I have been a loyal customer for several years now. Always recommend this as the best Mexican restaurant in the city. After todays experience, or the lack of, I cant bring myself to come back ever again.

    Wow!! Food was amazing and FAST. Sat down and immediately servered water and chips and salsa. We ordered and within 10 minutes had our dinner. Would definitely recommend.

    Went to Central Park and then walked over here to eat. We were exhausted so we decided dine inside with the AC nice and cool. The decor and music set the atmosphere. Esteban was our waiter and made our experience wonderful! The food was delicious as was the presentation. One of the best dinners we have had! Highly recommended!! We loved the watermelon at the end!

    Love the decor. Every restaurant wants to be described as lively and vibrant. However, this preference on the part of restaurant owners means that the acoustics are wretched and preclude the ability to engage in conversation with dinner companions unless one yells. The inability to converse in normal tones undermines an otherwise delightful and delicious meal.

    Love this place and have been coming since I was a kid. The drinks and food are delicious. It is a little expensive, but then again for Manhattan it is also slightly cheaper since its on eighty sixth street. Definitely recommend. The tepeche sazon is the best!!

    Went for dinner and a few drinks with a friend. I got the taco soup and my friend got the fajitas. Both the food and drinks were well priced and tasty. Table was a little uncomfortable but fine. Will definitely be going back

    Maz has been one of the most consistent and important places in my life. Have been coming here since I was a small child and for every graduation and special occasion for 30+ years.     I got guper fresh guacamole, crunchy chips, and a wonderful vegan platter of soft tacos, veggies, rice & black beans. I went with a group of friends who are big meat eaters, and they loved it, too.Maz Mezcal has awesome decor all year, and they deck it out even more around Halloween.If I knew they used non-GMO/organic corn, it would be 5 stars. (Most non-organic corn is genetically modified.)

    It was totally packed for Cinco de Mayo but the manager was so nice to find me a seat at the bar. This is where the fun started ;). The bartender Anthony is nothing less than amazing. Very attentive and great energy. AND the drinks are made so they go down like water. The bar vibe is excellent..as always!Just thinking about my experience, I cant wait to return. Great food, great drinks, and great hospitality. What more could I ask for?

    The food is good, really good. The Salsa and chips are great! It can have a rushed atmosphere, which given the need for tables, can be understood. But, still, we are paying to sit down an enjoy a meal. Overall its worth it, and again, delicious food! I would go again.

    I’ve been going to Max Mezcal ever since I was a little girl. It’s amazing to see that the quality has NOT changed over the years. It’s the perfect place for any occasion, we’ve come for birthdays, baptisms, graduations and recently for girls night and New Years.My to go options are always the margaritas, chorizos, nachos and the tacos or carne asada. You really can’t go wrong with anything here!!

    Another spot in the neighborhood I wish I had known about sooner.First off, the restaurant is much bigger inside than I expected. This makes it great for groups large and small. We went on a Friday night at 8pm and didnt wait longer than 20 minutes.Chips & salsa are provided to start the meal. We all got margaritas which were strong and reasonably priced. All of our orders were served very quickly, and the food was fantastic. My dish (mole poblano) was rich, warm, and savory. Food prices are slightly on the high side, but the portion sizes are massive. You get what you pay for.The service is also a stand out here. Extremely helpful, fast, and polite. This really helped wrap up a positive experience, and Ill be coming back.

    Consistently great, authentic food, and an absolute neighborhood gem for anything from family dinner to friends out for drinks to a date spot. Have been coming here for more than 30 years and it’s always enjoyable. Seared and pink carne asada is my go to, but everything from fajitas to chile rellenos is excellent. Wish it were easier to post what could be a couple hundred reviews for each meal I’ve eaten here. Staff and owners couldn’t be nicer and are friendly with many local regulars.     Celebrated an I DO FIESTA, yesterday at Maz Mezcal. The atmosphere was friendly, food delicious and the service was SUPERB. Thanks to all that helped to make the day extra special, for the Bride and Groom.One of the guests lost a heirloom ring, yesterday. Not knowing where, I called the restaurant and spoke to the owner, Maria. Her staff found the ring in the DR! Needless to say, we were surprised and elated. Kudos to the staff for being, honest.Will return and most importantly, will let everyone know about this great establishment!

    I have been coming here my whole life with my family, but the last few times we have gotten food from here it has not lived up to its usually good taste. I think the prices nowadays here are kind of overpriced and some of the portions are very small for the expensive price that some of them are. However, that green sauce that they give with the chips is really something out of this world that I have never had at any other mexican restaurant in my life. Overall, the food is still good but just not as good as it used to be, and I think that it is really just too overpriced at times. But the staff and service is always really good and I will most probably continue to order from here.

    Delicious! The guacamole is nice and creamy. The steak fajitas were plentiful and the chicken poblano mole has a sweet chocolaty sauce. The colorful decor transports us to a Mexican festival. The price is on the steeper side but the portions are appropriately large. The menu itself notes a minimum of $20 per person which may not be the most family/kid-friendly option.

    I had such a fun night. The food was excellent. I had the enchiladas de camarones, and it was exceptional. They had a mariachi band playing outside and it was my birthday and they came out and put a festive hat on my head, and they told me to take it home with me.     We arrived on Friday after 8 pm and they fit us in. Reservations are a good idea here . The food is exceptional and outstanding in presentation. Our server Gladys was amazing and very cheery. Kurts Bamboleo is tasty but I was amazed with the Cafe Azteca to finish the evening off. The preparation of the drink at the table was a moment to remember and it tasted great too. Definitely a NYC gem..
