Came here on an unprotected night out. Probably the best bar with authentic vibe and great live music. I’ll definitely be visiting again soon, and more regularly!

  • Review 2 (2024-11-23 - Rating: 4)

This place executes punk tiki-bar in the best way. The vibes and decor are so fun. Fun tiki drinks, and if you want, you can take home the glasses home for only $7.My only one complaint about this place is that seating is a bit limited, but the space between the bar and seating is so narrow, that its a bit awkward to stand. But because theres no cover, its always worth popping in to see if theres a place to sit.

  • Review 3 (2024-06-16 - Rating: 4)

I love having a tiki bar close to home; the drinks are excellent, though pricey. It is a tiki dive bar, and the soundtrack is hard rock, which wouldnt be my first choice. When we were there, there was a rock band playing in the back room (with no noise cancellation) and a DJ playing different rock music in the main room, and it was a cacophony of noise.

  • Review 4 (2024-08-30 - Rating: 4)

Tasty drinks with a lot of different options for different tastes. We enjoyed this place, but the music was a bit loud for us. Understandably, it was punk rock happy hour :P next time we’ll try the small bites.

  • Review 5 (2019-05-23 - Rating: 4)

His is one of few places in New York which still offering a live music and gives opportunity to young musicians to show themselves. And visitors can see how music is developing nowadays. Besides you can have great cocktails, beer and wine in this place, which is very nicely decorated. Every time we come here we enjoy a lot. Thanks to the old school bars! Unfortunately this type of places getting less and less in NYC

  • Review 6 (2023-11-01 - Rating: 5)

Great Lower East Side bar and music venue with a chintzy tiki theme (I mean that in a loving way haha). Id seen many bands I follow played shows here, but I just decided to stop in for a couple drinks on Halloween 2023. It was a good time and Id definitely go back. The Naughty Nell specialty cocktail is tasty and is great for jump-starting or quickly ending a night out. They serve food from the Asian dumpling place next door, it seems. Smelled awesome, but I didnt order any. Maybe next time!

  • Review 7 (2024-10-19 - Rating: 5)

A hidden gem. The staff and clientele are friendly af! And the music on point. Josh (hope I didnt miss-hear your name in my drunken stupor) Thanks for making a tourist feel at home, wish I could have stayed longer!

  • Review 8 (2024-08-31 - Rating: 5)

One of my favorite places to be in nyc-they know how to pour their punch of liquor in the drinks, the right amount of griminess in the vibe and the music, and the bartender with flower on her head always comes with a smile when she serves the drinks, and is always there on a Friday night, with funky guitars, loud basses, and shrunken head. You got it, me writing a google review at 10:54 PM after 2 tiki drinks and one more volcano to share in spirit:)

  • Review 9 (2023-01-03 - Rating: 5)

Have been here a few times in the past (not for a few years) and came here to celebrate New Year’s Eve and had a blast. The place consistently has an awesome vibe thanks to the great staff, DJs and live bands. The Tiki drinks are amazing which is why this place is loved. This isn’t a hole you come to drown your sorrows- you come here to celebrate and have a great time.

  • Review 10 (2022-11-06 - Rating: 5)

Date. 05nov22Time. 514pmCool tiki bar akin to trader Sam’s at Disney world. Cool cups with decent cocktails. Pricing is not too bad. 17 for the cocktail with 7 extra if you want to take the cup home. They had small bite to eat too, I got some edamame which was salted and good. My wife and I spent 80 dollars for two cocktails, 2 bud lights, edamame.

  • Review 11 (2023-07-30 - Rating: 5)

Really cool dive bar with local artists playing into the night. The drinks are reasonably priced, the staff is friendly and attentive, and its not too crowded. An easy recommendation for a fun and reasonably priced time!

  • Review 12 (2022-04-08 - Rating: 4)

We had fun! Would have been five stars if their tiki drinks had crushed ice. Not a deal breaker, just an observation. AMAZING dumplings and so affordable! Also, its only $7 to keep the tiki mug -- its the best deal on a cool souvenir we came across! We rode the subway to get here and back, so its not hard to find. Fun music and fun crowd.

  • Review 13 (2024-08-26 - Rating: 5)

I love how accessible this bar is. And Josh, a dear friend of mine, makes it worth the trip downtown! I’m thinking about doing an Open Mic there! So worth the trip!

  • Review 14 (2022-12-04 - Rating: 5)

What a great bar! Great vibes, good music, staff is super friendly, the drinks were good -we had beer and one of the tiki cocktails and we took the mug- and they also have live music. We went on a open mic night and atmosphere is amazing.

  • Review 15 (2023-05-14 - Rating: 5)

It’s eccentric but definitely very cool place to visit in NY. You can get a drink in one of the funkiest cup and even keep it (+ around 7$)Nice choice of drinks🍹 and cocktails 🍸

  • Review 16 (2024-09-10 - Rating: 5)

Very cool drinks!!! i went on a saturday near midnight there was an older crowd and it was a bit empty

  • Review 17 (2018-01-14 - Rating: 5)

Great drinks. Good prices if you decide to return the cup at the end of the drink you get about $10 back which makes the prices pretty good. The zombie was strong and delicious.

  • Review 18 (2024-12-08 - Rating: 4)

We did not eat here, but visited this place for the first time today after viewing the Donn the Beachcomber documentary at a nearby movie theater. The 2 bartenders were very friendly, patient, and knowledgeable even though the place was packed!! Excellent service with a smile! Id visit again.

  • Review 19 (2021-05-26 - Rating: 5)

While I was visiting New York this was hands down my favorite bar! Nice and chill and was in walking distance from where I was staying so that was a bonus.

  • Review 20 (2023-08-12 - Rating: 5)

Stumbled upon this New York tiki dive bar, and boy, did it feel like uncovering a hidden world. The mix of oddball decor and an even odder mix of patrons was oddly charming. The drinks? None of that watered-down stuff – these were bold concoctions that could shake anyone out of their comfort zone. The tunes? A perfect kind of weird that had everyone grooving. If youre after an offbeat night that doesnt toe the line, give this joint a shot.

  • Review 21 (2018-08-27 - Rating: 5)

The drinks were fantastic, the music was great, and the atmosphere was chill. As a travelling punk rocker I coukd see this being my home away from home in NYC.

  • Review 22 (2023-11-13 - Rating: 5)

Great no frills tiki-ish bar with a grunge vibe

  • Review 23 (2018-12-12 - Rating: 5)

Retro atmosphere, delicious drinksGot this flaming volcano bowl! $35... about 3-4 drinks worth. Fun & yum!

  • Review 24 (2024-07-12 - Rating: 5)

Great little hole in the wall tiki bar. Drinks were excellent

  • Review 25 (2024-11-17 - Rating: 5)

Punk rock tiki bar. Whats not to like

  • Review 26 (2021-05-30 - Rating: 5)

This place has a great vibe. Awesome decor. The tiki drinks are excellent. Food was very good as well (might be supplied by next door?). The live DJ really brought the experience to the next level, awesome music.I would highly recommend this tiki bar. It has all the things that make for a great time.

  • Review 27 (2022-09-06 - Rating: 4)

Came here as a part of the tiki journey while I was in town. Was pretty empty at 8 on a Friday, but still good energy inside the bar. The ambiance was amazing and the staff was very helpful. The drink were pretty good, but to be honest, for a tiki bar was a bit disappointed in some of the rail ingredients used. That being said the drink prices were not outrageous. All in all, good experience, will be back around again to give it another try.4/5 will be back

  • Review 28 (2021-11-06 - Rating: 5)

Love this place! I make sure to visit every time I am in New York. Fun atmosphere and drinks. DJ was great last night and the bands are great! The doorman checked our vaccine cards carefully too. Bartenders are friendly and attentive.

  • Review 29 (2021-11-07 - Rating: 5)

Ill be brief: in this bar youll get the coolest experience ever.Drinks are cool, they are based in specific names and tiki mugs. Strongly recommend the one that glows in the dark and the volcano with fire in it!Live music is very nice, punk / rockabilly bands with a very interesting vibe. You can dance and have a good time!Staff is very friendly.

  • Review 30 (2019-01-02 - Rating: 5)

I love Ottos. It might be my favorite bar in the entire city. The drinks are inventive and reasonable priced, they play cool music and oftentimes have live bands in the back. The bartenders are also great - Jodi is especially awesome. I always try to go there on her shifts if I can. All around great spot.

  • Review 31 (2024-12-04 - Rating: 5)

Great tiki drinks in cute mugs!

  • Review 32 (2019-04-25 - Rating: 5)

Legendary Tiki with craft cocktails, tiki styling, and a photo booth.

  • Review 33 (2021-08-15 - Rating: 5)

This is a #1 NYC bar for me, Its just the right mix of punk and tropical. Normally with frozen drinks Im worries theyll be too strong and Ill regret them, but the ones at Ottos are very reasonable and my gf and I tried a few of them!We saw Labretta Suede & The Motel 6 playing in the back room and were surprised by how big the space was! Show was a great time with a lot of friendly folks and good sound.

  • Review 34 (2019-12-21 - Rating: 4)

Interesting experience. I went there my first time for a rock and roll night. It was great. I tried their signature rum cocktails, while was ok, it felt a little fad.though not complaining much, I hedged with a rye neat.Music was great and the crowd very fun. Will go again.

  • Review 35 (2024-05-04 - Rating: 5)

Wow. I’m not a big drinker but the shrunken skirt was delicious. Also, unique atmosphere!

  • Review 36 (2024-03-09 - Rating: 5)

Incredible spot! Great music, vibes, and drinks.

  • Review 37 (2024-07-26 - Rating: 5)

Such a fun place, the vibes are so cool. Its a tiki bar, so expect the drinks to be fruity and fun. I went with a group and got a drink that was lit on fire. They also have food from the Chinese place next door and its pretty good. They also have free water, which is important to me when drinking at the bar.

  • Review 38 (2021-06-21 - Rating: 5)

This quintessential 14th street bar and all its wacky fun continues to thrive after the pandemic! New seating outside is great for the summer weather. Delicious Tiki drinks like are super delicious that they sneak up on you and before you know it you are having a grand time.Came to celebrate the summer solstice, we drank, we laughed, we wore brightly colored caftans as locals passed by. The favorite New York sport of people watching is back, and at Ottos with the outdoor seating its great

  • Review 39 (2016-05-02 - Rating: 5)

CASH ONLY. Had to get that out of the way. They do have an ATM as well if you need cash. This place is great. Theyve got very friendly bartenders and live music in the back. Theyve got special drinks that you can even get in a special glass. Its really the only tiki bar in NYC (well only one that matters).Theyve also got a very good selection of beers, craft beers mind you, that are not stupidly expensive. Everything in this bar was affordable, which will deforest have me coming back for more.

  • Review 40 (2012-03-22 - Rating: 4)

After walking by several times, mistaking it for a voodoo place, I finally realized it is a tiki bar. It looks dark and creepy from outside. Well, inside it is still dark and creepy but there is live band and a busy bar vibe. They charge $15 for a cocktail, $5 for the creative mug. You can return the mug back for the $5 back or keep it. I tried the Shrunken Skirt, which is a rum with pineapple juice, mango juice and lime. It is sweet and tropical. The mug is a sexy Hawaiian hula girl shape. There is no way I can reject the mug!The live band plays some classy rock music from back in the days and I really enjoy the music and drinks here. The only weird thing is there are a lot of older folks hanging out here.Overall, it is a cute place to hang, listening to solid live band, delicious libation and people watching.

  • Review 41 (2024-03-12 - Rating: 5)

Cant say enough good things about this bar. Its close to the subway, and several paid parking options. The atmosphere is unadulterated tiki, with tacky paintings of nude women, weird art and retro vibes. The simple but effective sound system in the quaint back room for live music did the job well. Drinks were very fairly priced for a NYC watering hole. We got there earlier in the afternoon before the club got busy and the bartenders were as friendly as they were fetching. As the bar filled up later, they kept up the same prompt service while remaining courteous. We ordered the chicken skewers and dumplings to help take the edge off the strong drinks and were surprised at how delicious the food was. The icing on the cake being the Subway to Skaville show that happens on the first Friday of every month. DJ Ryan Midnight hosts local and touring ska bands for an evening of fun, raucous, upbeat music. Ottos will be a NYC staple for us on every visit.

  • Review 42 (2020-02-19 - Rating: 5)

Ottos is Unique! Tiki bar with inexpensive drinks and a back room for music and Comedy. Just dont forget your ID because they are very strict on that point! Great open mic every weekday 3-5 pm

  • Review 43 (2024-11-23 - Rating: 5)

    Cool place, great vibes. Friendly

  • Review 44 (2018-03-28 - Rating: 4)

Enjoyable and low key with fun decor. DJ spins a great set and the bar has a variety of exotic mixed drinks as well as a beer selection. Stage for bands in the back. Worth a gander and a field trip.

  • Review 45 (2023-05-24 - Rating: 5)

    Great little Tiki Bar!

  • Review 46 (2017-08-14 - Rating: 4)

Fun bar! Great adherence to theme. Specialty drinks are a bit pricy but tasty and they dont skimp on the alcohol. I got mine in a fun tiki glass cause Im a sucker for novelty drinkware. If youre coming for live music, its stuck in a small room in the back, and you cant hear much of anything up near the bar. Sucks that youll inevitably miss songs if you want a drink or to use the restroom during a set.

  • Review 47 (2014-10-28 - Rating: 4)

Dont miss the blended drinks - they are delicious. Live music in the backroom and a surly lady barkeep. Its a real New York dive that hasnt been overrun with tourists or happy hour crowds.

  • Review 48 (2020-02-17 - Rating: 5)

Delicious drinks. But not exactly strong if thats what you want. A great place to drink.

  • Review 49 (2019-01-16 - Rating: 5)

One of my top five bars in NYC. The music is really awesome, the regulars are trve, theres events there all the time and a stage area for live music and events. Beforewarned the place is pretty narrow and has booth seats. It can get pretty crowded quick. If youre familiar with Rudys in HK, youll know what I mean.Dont sleep on the tiki drinks. They taste great, they look silly but youll be slurring your words after the second one.Long and short? Dope music, heavy drinks and great bartenders. DO IT.

  • Review 50 (2016-01-03 - Rating: 5)

One of my favorite bars in New York! Super fun, kitschy atmosphere with fun cocktails and decent beer. Get the (glowing) Pangs Punch. First Saturdays are SURF NITE with Unsteady Freddy - not to be missed.

  • Review 51 (2021-07-20 - Rating: 4)

Fun, rockabilly-meets-surf shack vibe. I know that tiki drinks have a lot of ingredients, but $14+ for a cocktail (even in NYC) is a little steep.Blasting music is fun, but renders conversation ineffective often, especially if its a live music vs. jukebox battle night.

  • Review 52 (2024-08-22 - Rating: 5)

So so much fun, expensive but good and strong drinks and great service

  • Review 53 (2013-09-12 - Rating: 5)

Now that Painkiller is closed, I think Ottos is definitely my favorite tiki bar in the city. Its actually great as an after work bar - mostly empty around 6pm and the music is great and not too loud. The tiki drinks are great and I like that you can keep the mugs for only $5. My favorite drinks are probably the Stormy Skull, which is basically a dark & stormy with coconut, and the glowing punch.

  • Review 54 (2024-05-15 - Rating: 5)

I love everything about this bar! I really wish I could visit more often.

  • Review 55 (2016-10-12 - Rating: 4)

If youre looking for weird, dive, and tiki weve got a bar for you. Decent drink prices (subsidized perhaps by the lack of lighting) and eclectic live shows round out the excellence. Hope it lasts, reminds me of the EV when I first moved in.

  • Review 56 (2023-08-08 - Rating: 5)

This place is fantastic! Super cool atmosphere. Its tiki but with a very punk rock vibe

  • Review 57 (2017-11-22 - Rating: 4)

A fun dive tiki bar, with special events in the back room. Maybe not the cleanest place in alphabet city, but the happy hour drink prices are good and the free comedy by no-name (most 2nd and 3rd Fridays) is a wacky blast (disclaimer, my wife played saxophone in the no-name back up band)

  • Review 58 (2016-06-28 - Rating: 4)

If you grew up in NYC or the metro and miss pre-gentrification Manhattan, this place is pretty great. I come here on Mondays for open mic night with a friend. It is, as you have probably gleaned from other reviews, an incredibly divey tiki bar. If that piques your interest, definitely visit. Its great!

  • Review 59 (2022-08-22 - Rating: 5)

Love the tiki drinks here! great vibe, kind people. for a small charge you also get to take home the amazing mugs you get your drinks in!!

Legendary place where The Strokes used to play before they were famous for being The Strokes.

  • Review 64 (2022-12-19 - Rating: 5)

Love this place, would definitely play here again!

  • Review 71 (2016-05-31 - Rating: 5)

Its not only Manhattans oldest surviving tiki bar, its also a haven for music. They book some of the most fun underground rock in the city, often with themes such as surf rock or goth.

  • Review 72 (2017-10-07 - Rating: 4)

Ottos has its own inimitable village spirit. How can there be something kind of punk rock about a place that serves flaming four person drinks? I assure you, its possible.

  • Review 73 (2023-07-31 - Rating: 5)

Friendly and attentive staff. One of their tiki drinks was probably one of the best tasting drinks Ive had. They also have live music, but be warned it can get a bit loud. Crowd tends to skew older

  • Review 74 (2019-12-05 - Rating: 5)

Killer ambiance and great bartenders. My friend spent a fortune on tiki cups and we went home with swizzle sticks in our hair. Successful evening

  • Review 94 (2022-09-30 - Rating: 5)

Fantastic place to go for Live Music, Live Comedy and the best Tiki Drinks in NYC. The staff is both super professional and very friendly. The Tiki drinks are well worth it and pack quite the punch. The interior is super Retro, it is like an old pharmacy/soda shop. I have both watched and performed Stand Up Comedy in the back room and also attended events there. It’s a very very cool place indeed.

  • Review 95 (2020-02-29 - Rating: 4)

  • Review 106 (2022-07-19 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 107 (2017-02-18 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 108 (2012-02-23 - Rating: 4)

Dive bar with a theme. If you take the L as much as I do then this gem of a dive is on the walk home. nothing special just great tunes and good beer and cheap prices.

  • Review 109 (2022-07-14 - Rating: 4)

High marks for ambience and the drink menu, but could get a little cramped if it gets too packed.

  • Review 110 (2021-12-17 - Rating: 4)

I had a good time the vibe was cozy and the drinks were great. I performed for the Christmas celebration

  • Review 111 (2019-10-19 - Rating: 5)

Cool old time vibe. Like something straight out of the 1950s.

  • Review 112 (2023-11-03 - Rating: 4)

This is a cool little place that I would have missed if I wasnt specifically looking for it. The staff here are nice and laid back. The only reason I deducted stars is because when I closed out my tab, they gave me back the wrong card. It got sorted out, so no harm.

  • Review 113 (2019-10-08 - Rating: 5)

Great cozy tiki bar that feels like a funky upscale dive bar. Not tacky and no frills but definitely has character. You can purchase the cups too. Hidden gem in East Village

  • Review 121 (2018-05-26 - Rating: 5)

One of the rare places in NYC to hear a variety of different forms of underground punk, metal and rock.

  • Review 122 (2024-01-29 - Rating: 5)

The only tiki bar in New York that lets you keep the mug for only $7! The drinks are about $23 with the mug. They arent the most authentic tiki drinks but after 2 you wont remember how to spell tiki trust me! This place has a very cool vibe with strong drinks. They are there to make you have fun not to fleece you for a few dollars.

  • Review 123 (2018-02-14 - Rating: 5)

Chicken skewers had a lovely Asian inspired taste. The drinks were tropical enough to fit the vibe, and the service was friendly. The live music was kinda blah though. Maybe a better band on a different night. I wouldnt mind coming back overall.

  • Review 159 (2023-01-07 - Rating: 5)

Havent been here in 10 years until tonight and its even better than I remember. I hope this place sticks around for another 90.

  • Review 160 (2019-03-26 - Rating: 4)

The drinks are so worth the money. Reasonable prices on beverages and good deals on souvenirs. The service is a little lacking, but the drinks are well worth the wait. I dont mind spending $20 on the beverage thats loaded with about $15 worth of liquor and I get to go home with a nice mug. Definitely worth it. I will be back.

  • Review 161 (2023-01-30 - Rating: 5)
