    Came here for their Christmas decorations and it was amazing! Came Friday late evening—there was a line, but it wasn’t a long wait. Massive amounts of decorations all throughout the restaurant! Very energetic vibe here and it’s crowded so a lot of people can be in your way as you take photos. But definitely worth checking out their Christmas decor!

    Came for my friends birthday and It was incredible! The Christmas decor is so homey and adorable. They don’t take reservations during the season and rightfully so but we waited outside in the cold for 30 minutes for a table for 3 and it was very worth it. (You can just go in and go to the bar from my understanding but we were hungry) The roasted chicken was delicious it came with mashed potato’s and garlic broccoli and we all inhaled it and loved it! Our server was Jorge and he was clearly busy with a lot of tables but he still checked in on us and even helped us sing to my friend for her birthday. It was a great experience and I hope to visit again soon! Thank you Jorge and all the staff at Papillon working very hard during this busy holiday Season. Merry Christmas!!!

    We took a friend visiting from Ireland over the holidays. We had never been here but were looking for a festive place near some of the attractions we were showing her. This place was all decked out for the holiday season, staff were very friendly, atmosphere was very festive and upbeat yet allowed us to carry on a conversation. We ordered mozzarella sticks, steak sandwich, chicken pesto sandwich and a salmon entree along with some festive drinks; all were good and arrived promptly.

    If you love tacky over the top Christmas, this is the place. Not beautiful ornaments, but it is definitely festive. We had a great time because we knew what to expect. We were greeted with a smile, and the wait staff were good and even though busy took good care of our table. If youre in a rush, this is not the place. We had a nice evening, which is what I was hoping for.

    A must-visit with great décor and vibes! Reservations fill up fast, but walk-ins are possible. The bar is always open; tables need booking. It was our first time, and we’ll be back.

    If you want to get into the holiday spirit, Papillon is the place to be! Its a beautiful Christmas wonderland! The prices are very reasonable & the food is good. Nothing compares to the decor though. Loved it!

    I loved the entire experience when I went a few weeks ago. Regardless of the wait being 35-40 mins due to no reservations because of the holiday. Once I got inside the aesthetics made it all worthwhile. The staff was very friendly and courteous. I would definitely go back especially for the drinks, the food was about a 7/10 for me, other than that a wonderful time while visiting NY.

    We visited here for the first time just before Thanksgiving, before heading to the Radio city rockettes. It is beautifully decorated for the holidays. Huge Wow factor as you walk in the doors. Staff was very welcoming. We had some cocktails and food and everything was delish. Would definitely go back as it makes you get in the mood for the holidays.Karen,Sean & Shea Dwyer

    We stopped by to enjoy the Christmas decorations, and the festive atmosphere didnt disappoint. A festive playlist with plenty of Christmas songs added to the holiday cheer. After 11 pm, there was a lot of Latin music on Wednesday. We ordered another round of cocktails because of it. The food was ok, but the highlight of our visit was undoubtedly the cream broulle cheesecake – it was delicious! I am adding a pic of it.

    Had a great pre Christmas lunch at this busy place. The decorations were great and added to the mood. I think the menu could have add some Christmas cocktails or specials to go with the decor but other than that and long wait outside to get in we had no complaints at all!

    Hospitality here was top notch. We were a large group who arrived on a Saturday night and we celebrating a birthday. The staff were so helpful and accommodating.The Halloween decorations were amazing, every room, every inch of the place is covered. The cocktails were delicious, they did a perfect dirty martini and the bar food menu was perfect. Chicken nachos, chicken strips, mozzarella sticks, French fries and calamari was shared by all and there was nothing left. Again, I can’t say enough about the customer service and welcoming staff. We stayed for several hours and had a really great time.

    I rarely write a five star review but I think it is mainly because of the way the business operated. First and only point I need to make is that they STOPPED doing reservations during the beautiful holiday season (Christmas) and thats so that EVERYONE gets a chance to experience the festive decor and wonderful food during the season. Having reservations, like almost all the restaurants in NYC, during this time books up the entire month and youre pretty much out of luck till next year. Moving on from that, the food was fantastic as Im pretty sure it usually is. The location is tucked away in the middle of the block so not much foot traffic while youre waiting to get in or just traveling there in general. My only negative critique is that the Christmas drink specials were buried somewhere other than the main menu so I was already three drinks in until I finally discovered it but that could have been a mistake on my end because I like everything right in front of me. I know it wasnt on the physical menu I was given. Anyway, excellent job guys the way you changed up. Please please please - to the other restaurants in NYC during the Christmas season...people want to see all the festive decor. S-T-O-P the reservations so everyone gets a chance to experience it! Thank you Papillon Bistro & Bar! Ill be back!

    Loved the decorations. Staff very friendly. I do not recommend ordering the ribeye steak sandwich. All peppers, onion and lettuce with no meat. I thought it was a joke at first.

    I made a reservation same day and didn’t have any issues with wait time. It was for 5 pm on a Friday before it got super packed. The food was mid. The mozzarella sticks and calamari just tasted frozen. The croque monsieur and the blue cheese salad were great and I would recommend those dishes. The cocktails were okay. This is a place you definitely come to for the experience, especially for the Christmas decor. I would probably come back. I also wasn’t sure if it would be kid friendly but I brought my baby and 5 year old and found many others brought their kids!

    When I first arrived, I wasn’t sure if the food would be worth it. I thought it might be more about the atmosphere than the food itself. But guess what? The food was amazing!     This was a really fun spot to hit if you like Halloween decor or if you just love skeletons and eery vibes.We came here in October in the spirit of Halloween and really enjoyed entire atmosphere.For food we got the spinach dip and it was pretty good. It came with pita chips. They have an appetizer deal so if you come with a big group it can be very cost effective.Drinks we got the cocktails and they were surprisingly strong.     The wait staff in the bar were not very attentive. We had to ask for water, and menus. The waitress counted money and then made our drinks. The mustard that I asked for was never brought. HOWEVER, the place was beautifully decorated for the holidays.

    This spot was maxed out on Christmas decor and we loved it. We had a couple drinks as well as the calamari and a kale and quinoa salad. Both were great and a traditional smoked old fashioned with a glass of white wine!!! If you want some Christmas spirit right at 5th Avenue this this is a great little spot.

    Came during Christmas time and it is definitely a great spot to get into the Christmas spirit. A bit kitschy, but definitely makes you feel like your in an NYC Christmas movie (coming from me, a Native NYer).Food was tasty — I got the risotto croquettes which were very flavorful and crispy, and the salmon which was cooked well with Brussels and mashed potato. Cocktails were tasty. I wasn’t a big fan of their limited desert options, but hey, it’s a busy time of year.Overall, come for the ambience and enjoy some good food.

    This place is absolutely unreal when it comes to the Christmas decor that they have. If you want a great place to take your date or family or even colleagues to embraces the Christmas spirit. Papillon is certainly the place to be. Their drinks are pretty good (although a little upsetting they dont have Christmas focused drinks like Miracle on 9th street does) and their food is mediocre. Its hard not to give this place a good review when you know you are truly coming here for the Christmas experience.

    Awesome restaurant! We celebrated our anniversary here. Back when we started dating, we used to go to a French bistro and I was looking for one to celebrate our anniversary. Papillon is a beautiful restaurant on the second floor and a lively bar with amazing cocktails.Every dish was perfectly cooked. We loved French onion soup. Papillon chicken salad.The burger was fabulous as well.The service was Marvelous. I love the ambience and decor on the second floor. Gives you the feeling that you are in Paris. Gorgeous place

    Great place to grab drinks after work if you work in that area or to bring along friends and a date. Spacious bar area and also there is an upstairs area that can sit more people.     This is one place you’ll certainly want to go especially if you’re visiting New York. What caught my attention was the skeleton with the menu at the entrance. It was initially spooky but I fell in love with the whole concept in an instant. The place is very classy with a touch of sophistication and style. The food is amazing and the waiters are very professional. The seat out is so beautiful as well; I think I prefer the seat out to see all the hustling and bustling of New York and traffic. This restaurant is pretty close to the road and can be easily noticed from a vehicle in normal traffic.     This place was amazing! So festive and the drinks are amazing. We were so lucky to have Jorge as our waiter, he’s the true definition of extraordinary customer service.     The hostess didn’t greet me and my husband too well.     This place was chosen very randomly and last minute. Lively and seemed like business crowd scene. Loved the Halloween decor. Loved the Moscow mules, very gingery.     Came here after work with a friend during the holidays and it did not disappoint! Absolutely beautiful decor as soon as you step in.Its easier to get in and get a table for two mid week than on the weekend as it requires reservations during the holiday season.The server was amazing. And the food I just loved! They crisped the skin of the salmon just right! Never had it served like this before. It was paired well with the risotto. Loved my drinks as well.

    Ive been visiting this establishment since it was a Thai place over 15 years ago. The location is fantastic, the food is solid, the decor is great, but in reality, Papillion is really at its best as a spot to meet for an after work drink.

    Vintage vibe, great drinks, wonderful service & nice finger foods/platters to soften the Whiskey! 😊All over good spot to visit, with much variability and seasoned bartenders. You can select a bigger dish from the menu or get a few small sides to compliment the drinks while you chat. Bar scene is vibrant, and the venue has character. Love the oversized staircase immediately pronounced upon entering – thus transforming your element from only just leaving the designer shopping strip to cut away into a rustic French brownstone with oiled wood trimmings and heavy ornate décor - down an alley off Park. Calamari, spring rolls, beef sliders, chicken bites, cheese board – everything was neatly prepared and tasty.

    Mussels are an easy go to. Whether you choose the red or white sauce, its delicious. I recommend soaking the fries if they are preferred or getting bread or mashed potatoes to really get the full flavor.

    Pretty cool restaurant, and the food was good. I really enjoyed the burger I got. The vibes were good, the area was chill, decorated really well. I was there around Halloween and I gotta say, it was really well decorated. My only thing was the wait time for the food. I waited a very long time for my food. That’s something they can improve on. Everything else was good.The theme of the restaurant was pretty old school - like an 1800 home. Not my cup of tea but I did appreciate it.

    This was such a fun themed restaurant. We were early for our reservations and they were able to seat us early. Very friendly staff. The drinks were wonderful and the spinach dip appetizer was amazing.

    Cool French bistro that went ham for Halloween! The decor during my visit was super cool.The food was good. I had the mussels with fries which were delicious. Big, meaty Mussels with a rich broth with Pernod.The service was alright, considering there were very few people dining.In conclusion, a cool restaurant aesthetically, especially for Halloween. I would probably return, the food was good and I like what the owners did for Halloween.

    We spent Christmas Eve 2019 in the private room in the back of this restaurant. The atmosphere was wonderful. The staff was very friendly and professional.According to my family, the food was awesome. I personally prefer healthier options for food. But I understand I was not in my specific type of restaurant, so I cant say anything negative. And although, I didnt have any vegetarian protein in my meal, they went the extra mile to make sure my risotto rice with asparagus was vegan.The Christmas decorations were out of this world. They definitely went all out.This is a place for great memories.Loved the experience.

    The decor is crazy! I liked it a lot!We went there for lunch special (lunch and beer or glass of wine for $19.95) and we were sitting at the bar. Food, drinks and service was good.

    The place was decorated for Halloween and looks INCREDIBLE. hundreds of skeletons and animated figuresThe food had great quality and unlike other restaurants a real human sized portion instead of monstrous plates.The service was a bit slower than I would have liked but made up for by friendly people.

    Its a nice place, good ambiance, music (if you like opera), you are able to talk. I sat on the bar because we didnt make a reservation, and they have a good selection of wines, the bartender was kind enough to let us taste some before ordering. The 3 cheeses appetizer was good. Good place for a date. Overall there go older people.

    We made reservations here when visiting from out of town. I found it on Instagram when looking for a fun Christmas themed restaurant to go to before seeing the Rockettes. This restaurant did not disappoint. It was covered in fun Christmas decor, we were sat quickly (with reservations, of course). The food was good. Service was good. Overall, it was a fun experience and a quick walk to Radio City for the Rockettes performance!

    While there is a good amount of table space the upper bar can get cramped if you have a large group. I did not try much of their food but drinks are pretty quick to come out. The food i did have was good but not far did not knock my socks off in any respect. Bartenders do not attempt to show off in favor of timely service. I would go back.--Edit--I went back recently and had a very similar experience though I got to try more of their food. It was solid middle of the road midtown fare. I maintain that it is not above average or below. We reserved a larger space this time and it made all of the difference for how comfortable we were.

    Excellent service + Excellent drinks + Excellent food.Was at a party here on a Tuesday night and the place was buzzing. Full of patrons on both floors. People were dining on the cute tables with a small pumpkin while many mingled at the bar. The staff was constantly clearing the dishes and serving. The bar tenders were polite and the bar had great vodka not just the plain cheap bottles. There was Patron also. Great top shelf liquor.This is a definite place to return to. Location is great, just off the M train on Madison.

    Delightful luncheon at Papillon. They have nice options on their menu both vegetarian and non vegetarian selections. Papillon has a welcoming, festive seasonal atmosphere this time of year.

    Very good food, beautiful on the inside, and a great midtown location. The food leans a little more American bar (think nachos and wings) than French brasserie, but there is something for everyone. I had the Norwegian Salmon most recently and it was the perfect amount of food. The sidewalk tables are great, but the traffic noise can be distracting.
