In the basement, grungy, dark, feels like a haunted house. There’s a bar area when you enter with some bathrooms on the other side. Once you enter further there are more seating area where it gets a little more crowded but we got seated right away. The drinks were just ok, more for people who want to enjoy intoxication vs quality sake. Good for groups.

Love this place! Our last visit was on a Sunday, just as they opened, so it started out empty and filled up quickly. We always try something new/different and everything has been so good!

  • Review 3 (2022-04-17 - Rating: 4)

Very popular and very busy authentic Japanese place with an ID check and a long line outside. Restaurant is small and dark, everything is served in metal tins and plastic cups, but it sure is a special experience. Their sashimi is excellent, so is the fried chicken and udon. Its super casual and hip place with a variety of drinks also served at a bar. No sushi or rolls. Service is good and quick as the time you have for dining is limited.

  • Review 4 (2023-06-02 - Rating: 5)

My friends and I had a celebration here and the atmosphere and food did not disappoint. The staffs were friendly and catering. Note that you only have a 90-minute slot for your table.

  • Review 5 (2024-10-02 - Rating: 5)

This underground bar is perfect for a group of 4 to feel transported out of new york. All of the food was excellent. The yellowtail sashimi blew my mind. Chashu was perfect. Beware of the wasabi shumai!

  • Review 6 (2024-11-13 - Rating: 4)

We waited in line for about 20 minutes on a saturday around midnight. The vibes were good I liked the ambiance. a lot of the reviews said it was too loud but i didnt feel that. the food and drinks are also pretty affordable - we got the gyu don and una don but the una don had too much sauce imo

  • Review 7 (2024-08-31 - Rating: 5)

Interesting interior, crowed and noisy, good spot for talking and enjoy drinks, takoyaki is delicious

  • Review 8 (2024-09-14 - Rating: 4)

We only ordered sake, not food, but it’s a fun, cozy, and dark spot!

  • Review 9 (2021-03-31 - Rating: 5)

I love the overall atmosphere of the bar itself. It takes you to a whole new place where it makes you feel like you’re in a completely different world. Great servers with great food and a bit of sake to enlighten your decibel experience!

  • Review 10 (2023-04-09 - Rating: 4)

I came here on the recommendation of my sister, and I thought it was pretty good. We ordered some food, and I liked the flavour and done-ness of the udon, although I wasnt a big fan of the sansai udon bc I guess I just dont like the wild fern and there was so much of it lol. We came during happy hour (which I recommend bc the prices of the drinks are much more worth it) and got the pitcher of lychee martini for 3 people. I was surprised it actually came with real lychees. You do have a 1.5 hour seating limit, which I understand for a bar but still found it kinda strange bc it wasnt actually packed and there wasnt a line waiting outside on a Friday night. Anyway, very cool atmosphere inside too and if you have the time, itd be an interesting experience, but for me I think coming here once is enough

  • Review 11 (2019-03-06 - Rating: 5)

Sake Bar Decibel is an amazing spot, downstairs off the street in the East Village. If youre into sake at all, or want to try some out, do yourself a favour and check this place out. Their sake list is extensive, and they have many Junmai Ginjo and Junmai Daiginjos (the two top levels of sake) available. They also serve their sake in the traditional method (with a glass cup inside of a wooden box, which they over pour into). Also, try out some of their food items, because they are incredible. We had the curry, and it was amazing.

  • Review 12 (2020-12-28 - Rating: 5)

Always a classic! Decibel is open as of late December 2020. They have heaters, hot sake, friendly service, happy hour deals and an excellent abbreviated menu right now. Patronize this amazing and fun NYC institution!

  • Review 13 (2021-09-09 - Rating: 5)

Very cool hidden gem of a basement bar in NYC. Good sake options at reasonable prices, particularly during happy hour from 6-7pm.The grundy, low light atmosphere with graffiti everywhere makes this place unique.

  • Review 14 (2023-05-27 - Rating: 5)

Wow. What a great little (tiny) (microscopic) Japanese Sake Bar. Food was amazing. Sake was even better with an incredible but affordable selection. Get a reservation and bring your skinny jeans.

  • Review 15 (2023-04-13 - Rating: 4)

Very cool very popular and authentic sake bar that’s offering Japanese snacks

  • Review 16 (2024-06-10 - Rating: 4)

What a fun and noisy place. Food is yum.

  • Review 17 (2024-08-25 - Rating: 5)

I recently visited Sake Bar Decibel and had a great time. I tried the salmon sashimi and sausage, and both were really tasty. The food came out hot and fresh, and the flavors were spot on. The service was quick and the staff were attentive, which made the experience even better. The place itself has a nice vibe, perfect for enjoying a good meal. Overall, I had a fantastic experience and will definitely be returning. 5/5 stars.

  • Review 18 (2023-03-14 - Rating: 5)

The atmoshpere is captivating, with a back-alley Tokyo feel. In short. It has a causal post-apocalyptic vibe of a watering hole. I will be going back for sure.

  • Review 19 (2017-04-23 - Rating: 5)

Love the underground (literally) and lively vibe of this tiny spot. Amazing sake list paired with old school hiphop. We loved all the food items sampled. Very friendly and helpful staff despite a packed house. Great place to hang out, snack, share a few bottles with your group. Most likely a 20-30 min wait but certainly worth it.

  • Review 20 (2019-01-26 - Rating: 5)

That was weird, we set on the bar and then they told us we have to move, so we were placed on a weird circular table on the side walk. we called the manager and the FBI so they brought us in and set us in separate tables so we wont speak. I called my sister to complain but she was a sleeep

  • Review 21 (2024-11-09 - Rating: 5)

Sake Bar Decibel is hands down one of my favorite hidden gems in NYC. Tucked away in a cozy basement, stepping inside feels like being transported straight to a secret bar in Tokyo. The atmosphere is dark, intimate, and a little gritty, with low lighting and graffiti-covered walls, which all adds to the charm. It’s the perfect spot for a memorable night out, especially if you’re looking for something unique and authentic.Their sake selection is amazing! The menu has everything from fruity and floral to rich, dry sakes, and whether you’re a sake pro or just getting into it, the staff is so knowledgeable and helpful. They guided me to a bottle that was exactly what I wanted, and it was incredible. And I have to give a shoutout to their lychee martini—it’s refreshing, subtly sweet, and the perfect mix of flavors. It’s easily one of the best lychee martinis I’ve ever had.The small plates here are spot-on, too. I loved the miso-glazed eggplant, crispy karaage chicken, and the melt-in-your-mouth sashimi. Every dish pairs perfectly with the drinks, enhancing the whole experience. The service is fantastic; the staff is attentive, friendly, and they make you feel right at home, adding to that welcoming, underground vibe. Sake Bar Decibel is perfect for a date night or a night out with friends when you’re looking for something special.

  • Review 22 (2019-10-14 - Rating: 5)

This place is a hidden gem! Definitely stop by if you’re looking for a light snake and have a wide selection of sake available. The staff is super friendly and the prices are reasonable. Came here on a Sunday night and it was fairly busy, had to share a table with another party. I’ll be coming back in the future!

  • Review 23 (2019-01-26 - Rating: 5)

They ended the government shut down today. Man, Im warm. I should call places before I go to them to ask about temperature. They should list temperature in reviews. Temperature nw people in the vincinity of the restaurant and temperature without people in the vincinity. Vicinity sounds like a city in ancient Rome. Ah, Rome. Have you ever been? I havent. God, Im such a loser. Why havent you invited me to Rome. You know what. Im not a loser. You are! #trivia

  • Review 24 (2024-02-11 - Rating: 4)

Great atmosphere. If you like divey bars with theming, youll love the atmosphere here. Theres a great selection of drinks and excellent bar food, but I got strongarmed into tipping 20% after closing out a bill just shy of $100 between me and my friend, and most of what we ordered was on appetizers. If there is a gratuity policy, they dont mention it anywhere on their site.Ultimately a great experience marred by a rather sudden and disappointing exit.

  • Review 25 (2024-01-20 - Rating: 4)

I love this place! The sake is really enjoyable and so is the food. The ambiance is kind of hole in the wall feeling. The only thing Id say is the food portions can be kind of small, I wish they were a bit bigger.

  • Review 26 (2024-08-23 - Rating: 5)

Still my favorite sake bar in New York City

  • Review 27 (2018-02-19 - Rating: 5)

This is truly one of my highlights of my visit to New York City. When you go down the stairs and first enter, your not sure just what youve gotten yourself into. But if you like edgy, this is your place! Great sake selection and quality, great yellowtail.

  • Review 28 (2021-11-21 - Rating: 5)

If you like sake, this is the place for you.But be careful, it will taste so good that you lose track there is alcohol in your drink. A few hours in, you’ll forget how you ended up wherever you are.Add some small bites as you sip to help soak it up.

  • Review 29 (2024-04-25 - Rating: 5)

I love this spot - the vibes are grunge while being characteristically Japanese, and the bottles are so well priced. We got seated immediately even though we came at 8 and service was very friendly and knowledgeable! Would definitely come back.

  • Review 30 (2022-11-27 - Rating: 5)

Lovely experience! Server picked the perfect sake for me and my friend (different recommendations for each) with minimal intel from us. All the food items we ordered were delicious. We walked in on a Sunday and were able to be seated, but I would definitely try to make a reservation if going any other day of the week - the place was hopping.

  • Review 31 (2024-09-30 - Rating: 5)

Amazing sake selection! Highly recommend the flight if you’re not sure what to order and the cocktails are delicious. The staff are super nice and makes you feel very welcomed! On a Saturday night we had to wait around 30 mins but we thought it was worth it! There are actually lots of seating in the back.

  • Review 32 (2017-06-06 - Rating: 5)

Unique vibe, great food at reasonable prices and the sake menu is very deep. Perfect place for 2 or small group to catch up over drinks

  • Review 33 (2024-04-18 - Rating: 5)

Wonderful sake bar. Staffs are friendly and pretty good food. Good selection of sake available, with my favourite Isojiman and Kokuryo.

  • Review 34 (2023-08-22 - Rating: 5)

The vibes here are absolutely immaculate, it is like I was transported to an underground bar in Tokyo. Fantastic sake selection, didnt get to try the food but heard great things. Everything about this place speaks to me with a great freaking Playlist

  • Review 35 (2023-11-12 - Rating: 4)

I really love this place but it can be hit or miss with how busy it gets and the limited space. The sake menu won’t disappoint and it’s easy to not realize you’ve been there for hours.

  • Review 36 (2023-11-14 - Rating: 5)

Really cool spot. Believe one of the original sake bars ever in manhattan. Down in the cellar/basement. Super dark and grungy. Unique place in city, def worth checking out.

  • Review 37 (2018-10-06 - Rating: 4)

The sake is delicious! Never really liked sake but found it delicious here, the menus have tasting notes which I found to be really helpful and pretty spot on. Very cool spot below street level. Its a really small space and they have little plastic backless stools to use if you are three--theres got to be a better solution than this. Other than that really great spot

  • Review 38 (2022-09-10 - Rating: 5)

Super cool place. Delicious food, cool atmosphere, nice staff.

  • Review 39 (2024-11-09 - Rating: 4)

Very cool spot. I don’t like the date crowd tbh, and could’ve been a bit cheaper.

  • Review 40 (2021-02-23 - Rating: 5)

Holy cow this place is cool. The restaurant is downstairs, below the sidewalk. Every surface is covered in stickers and sharpie and everything in between. Sake menu is as good as you’d imagine. The food is also delicious— my favorite being the maguro tuna. One of the best things i’ve eaten in a while. Prices are super fair. 10/10.

  • Review 41 (2022-03-13 - Rating: 5)

Amazing food, service and ambience. Thanks for everything Cho.

  • Review 42 (2019-08-18 - Rating: 5)

Dont think Ive ever been so transported back to Japan in North America. Such a cute spot that is great at what it does.

  • Review 43 (2017-06-20 - Rating: 5)

Amazing... I have never see a restaurant with so many different sake.

  • Review 44 (2024-11-25 - Rating: 5)

Extremely elite vibe in here. Food and drinks are pretty cheap for NYC too.

  • Review 45 (2018-01-30 - Rating: 5)

Very much like you would find a small bar in Tokyo. Dark, cavernous, and neat! Had a great time with my wife.

  • Review 46 (2017-11-08 - Rating: 5)

If youre looking for a cute date place, or just a place to chill with friends, this is your place. Sake Bar Decibel is very intimate, with dim lighting, and very hip wall art. The ambiance is just chilllll. The sake is excellent, with so many options youll probably start spinning (that or because of the alcohol), and the service is excellent as well. They relocated my party of five to a larger table once it was freed.Overall, I have come back several times, and will continue to do so in the future!

  • Review 47 (2021-11-14 - Rating: 5)

Must be cool to attend. I kid! But actually this place is hands down the coolest place in New York. Try the saketini and honestly, just order everything on the menu. Nothing disappoints, especially the fact that you are underground in what feels like an Asian style speakeasy.

  • Review 48 (2018-11-05 - Rating: 5)

I went with a friend to this incredible place on a Saturday night. They have decorated the place in a way that transports you, and it will excite you to go for a sake, even if you end up sitting with strangers. Come here to drink delicious sake, have great service, and enjoy home-made Udon noodles!

  • Review 49 (2021-02-27 - Rating: 5)

Feels like back in Tokyo. Best thing is atmosphere. Next is sake choice. I wish they would have some snacks like a typical bar in Japan but I understand why they don’t if they don’t need to. Overall favorite Japanese bar in America so far

  • Review 50 (2023-04-01 - Rating: 5)

Sitting in back main area is better but overall chill, great lychee martinis

  • Review 51 (2024-09-22 - Rating: 4)

  • Review 52 (2019-05-15 - Rating: 5)

When I heard about this bar I told my wife we were going to drive down from Boston to go here. It was well worth the weekend. The bar is so cool, the selection was amazing and the employees were all there to help with vast wealth of knowledge. If I lived in the area Id be there everyday after work. Keep up the great job!!

  • Review 53 (2024-05-25 - Rating: 5)

Great spot, good sake. The waiter/waitress gave nice recommendations

  • Review 54 (2015-12-18 - Rating: 5)

Get ready to be transported back to feudal Japan mixed with a prohibition speakeasy. This place is a must see to take any of your friends, And honestly locals love it too. Possibly one of the most amazing sake lists available and light simple Japanese dishes to choose from to. Japanese bar bites if you will

  • Review 55 (2023-12-07 - Rating: 5)

A classic. By far my favorite bar in NYC. The dungeon vibes are everything. Like if there is a fire there, there is no getting out, which is part of the allure.

  • Review 56 (2015-11-22 - Rating: 4)

Great selection of sake with traditional pours. Outside of the wall writing you could almost imagine the interior being in Tokyo. Staff didnt really know about some of the sake we were asking about but otherwise service was good.

  • Review 57 (2023-12-29 - Rating: 4)

Casual and lowkey sake spot. Feels like a portal to Japan! Loved the music and the ambiance. The owner is quite the personality. またね!

  • Review 58 (2019-06-30 - Rating: 5)

Intimate little underground sake bar. Really cool vibes, had major flashbacks to Japan. Wait staff super friendly and she price were pretty reasonable. Great pregame or late night spot!

  • Review 59 (2015-02-12 - Rating: 5)

Decibel will transport you back in time when there were gangster hangouts and secret passages for alcohol consumption, in a cool way. A very small and tight space, but lots of delicious Sake! Bring a small group and try a few. Youll have fun if you dont mind sharpie marked up ceilings, walls, and glued posters. Pricey, dont forget to bring your wallet.

  • Review 60 (2021-05-15 - Rating: 5)

Great izakaya, the staff make you feel as if you were friends for years. Theyre very attentive and quick with taking care of your orders. Im definitely going to be a regular now. Also, Yuri and Cho are the funniest people around.

  • Review 61 (2022-06-10 - Rating: 5)

Underground place. Its a small bar with a huge variety of Sake to try. Its a unique bar, bit expensive though

  • Review 62 (2022-09-05 - Rating: 4)

Lychee Martini was much weaker than I thought. No effects at all and we all ended up ordering another drink. The Yuzu Soda was actually pretty good and I’m glad that the waiter recommended that to us.Takowasa is another favorite. My friends put me on it tonight and I have to say it has an interesting but addicting taste to it. Should def try if it’s your first time.

  • Review 63 (2024-09-30 - Rating: 5)

A bit pricey but loved the atmosphere

  • Review 64 (2023-08-19 - Rating: 4)

Create hidden place for sake! Recommend everyone come for a visit but keep in mind it is a small venue.

  • Review 65 (2018-04-18 - Rating: 5)

Cute, rough and tumble place to get drinks. Space is tight, and itll probably be loud, but bring a friend whose company you enjoy.Get some drinks. Try different varieties of sake, shochu, etc. Get classic Japanese bar snacks. Dont hold back. Drink from a wooden box after you spill your drink in it.

  • Review 66 (2021-04-24 - Rating: 5)

A true favorite. Having visited Japan, this place takes me back. Cozy, eclectic and romantic. Tantalizing food and on point service. Make a reservation. These days you may require one.

  • Review 67 (2022-02-26 - Rating: 5)

A great little Japanese sake bar in East Village - when you walk in, you feel like you have just crossed a portal from the streets of Manhattan to an unsuspecting Tokyo getaway. Its dark and intimate - great atmosphere

  • Review 68 (2021-05-22 - Rating: 5)

Low key and yummy! This place is tucked in the basement of a building. The walls are engulfed in the handwriting of all its guests.Decibel, has wonderful finger foods with great wait staff.

  • Review 69 (2021-04-12 - Rating: 5)

Great atmosphere with lots of sake choicesRemember to make a reservation on weeekends!

  • Review 70 (2019-09-09 - Rating: 5)

Dark, kind of divey, not particularly comfortable. But thats not why youre there. Excellent choice of sake (nihonshu) & other, primarily Japanese, liqueurs (shochu, etc.).Not cheap compared to other bars in NYC, but for sake, very good prices comparably.

  • Review 71 (2017-08-28 - Rating: 4)

A decent selection of sake. The good thing is that most of their offering you can order by the glass not just by the bottle. A nice atmosphere but the place is small.

  • Review 72 (2022-05-17 - Rating: 4)

Good food and a variety of sake to choose from. Happy hour drinks are very limited. Dont get their karaage. It is soggy, not crunchy. Their kyudon was good.

  • Review 73 (2019-03-26 - Rating: 4)

Very cool and hip vibe and delicious small-portion dishes. I recommend the eel, wasabi octopus and assorted pickles. A bit too loud for my preference, but it is a bar.

  • Review 74 (2018-07-08 - Rating: 4)

Grungy underground sake bar that’s good for groups. They have a huge selection of sake and some decent bar food. Surprisingly not much of a wait for 5 people on a Saturday night.

  • Review 75 (2014-11-18 - Rating: 5)

I hadnt been in here for about a decade when my gf and I headed down the dark secret stairway into the restaurant where we were immediately carded (Im 37!) it is dark down there tho. We got seated at the bar and you pretty much need to flag down the service people to get them, its super laid back, thats just how they do things. Over the course of our meal we had two samples of DELICIOUS sake with the recommendation from our female server also drank kirin light (my fav Japanese beer)(Im a bud light guy) we started with the tiny spicy rice crackers and really cool tiny cheese arrangement ($2 and $5) I have had a lot of these little crackers and I love decibels they are perfect and the chess are super fun and all very mild which is how I like my cheeses. Next up we had the decibel tofu I really like this and being as I was w my gf we could share but its a little personal to share with a non-intimate friend. Then we had the Pork dish... AMAZING! awesome perfect. Then the ship shumai, which were some of the best dumplings Ive had. We got to grilled rice balls too which are really really good, one order brings two little triangles. This place is just so great, I cant say enough about this awesome nyc gem. No children! awesome!

  • Review 76 (2022-09-09 - Rating: 5)

Great drinks and vibe. The food could have been better.

  • Review 77 (2023-04-26 - Rating: 5)

A very authentic and awesome sake bar in NY that transports you to Japan. The actual bar is on the lower level of the building and requires walking down steep stairs which adds to the experience.Inside the tables are a bit cramped but once you’re sitting with your group you don’t really notice and focus on the amazing decals and decor all around.Drinks wise, their sake bottle list is extensive and we had our server pick out one for the group. We easily finished the bottle and enjoyed our time here!

  • Review 78 (2022-12-08 - Rating: 5)

Hidden gem in the east village. Definitely more crowded now than it was in the past. Food is great and they have some excellent sakes. Highly recommend

  • Review 79 (2022-03-01 - Rating: 5)

Dope sake bar! Happy hour was packed... Lychee Sakitini was legit.

  • Review 80 (2022-11-11 - Rating: 4)

Are you in NYC at the moment? Do you like sake? Well guess where youre goin. Youre goin here, and youre gonna be glad ya did! Its almost like a sake dive bar with some bells and whistles to it. Seriously though, if you are into sake and even passing through, go here. Youre welcome.

  • Review 81 (2022-04-03 - Rating: 5)

Absolutely loved it here. Such a great vibe and great sake! It is a little cramped, so be prepared for that if you have not been.

  • Review 82 (2023-02-23 - Rating: 5)

Great vibe Great Food Great Sake !

  • Review 83 (2023-09-30 - Rating: 4)

Best lychee martini i’ve had and it was only $10!! also got a carafe but this was my like 10th lesson i don’t like most sakes, so that was on me.very cozy spot & would recommend making a reservation. we came at like 8:30 on a thursday (without a reservation) & were seated at the front within like 5 minutes.

  • Review 84 (2018-09-30 - Rating: 5)

Speakeasy bar. I recommend it to go, once you are inside you can feel like if you are transported to a bar in japan, the place have a lot of sake options. I don’t recommend it to go with a big group because there is not a lot of space is very small so when I went there it was very crowded. Definitely is becoming very popular, I recommend you to, is one of my favorite bars to drink sake.

  • Review 85 (2023-05-11 - Rating: 5)

Great extensive menu of Sake and good customer service

  • Review 86 (2021-05-04 - Rating: 5)

Incredible incredible incredible. Fine sake in a graffiti underground wonderland.

  • Review 88 (2018-02-02 - Rating: 4)

A fun place for great sake and authentic Japanese. Its noisy, tiny, and dark, but great. It reminds me of a Sake bar we went to in Kyoto.

  • Review 89 (2018-03-11 - Rating: 5)

So grungy inside but the atmosphere is great. Excellent selection of sake. Its so crammed though so dont come in big groups.

  • Review 90 (2023-01-29 - Rating: 5)

A hole in the wall bar reminiscent of the Golden Gai in Tokyo. A great selection of Sake, with some cocktails and Sapporo beer as well.

  • Review 91 (2013-03-25 - Rating: 4)

Decibel is great little sake bar in what I like to call J-town (st. marks and surrounding streets). This place is tiny and fills up quickly. Expect to be crammed in, elbow to elbow with your neighbor, whether you know them or not.Food is so so. I recommend sticking with simple things finger dishes that go well with sake, e.g., edamame or senbei. They have a wonderfully large selection of sake which is the real reason to head here. Its a great place for a quick sip.

  • Review 92 (2022-07-29 - Rating: 5)

Transports you to another country/dimension with great atmosphere/ music/ people. Got great service and info on sake and food. Terrific experience for sure.!

  • Review 93 (2024-04-06 - Rating: 5)

Ive walked past this spot a million times so I was super excited to finally try it. Such a cool place, love the dark, Tokyo underground vibe. Staff was friendly and attentive. I enjoyed the happy hour sake martini but would probably stick with just sake next time. We tried a sake labeled unusual on the menu and it was awesome! It was a reddish, brown color and was made from red rice. So different, almost tasted like vanilla coke!

  • Review 95 (2021-06-19 - Rating: 5)

Great selection of sake, cool space, and a nice amount of outdoor seating. Try going during the week to avoid a wait.

Fabulous spot for late night snacks and sake! Tight quarters, artsy vibes, dim lighting and background tunes, it is a thrill to take in the ambience! Can’t wait to return

  • Review 97 (2018-02-06 - Rating: 5)

Amazing place, best selection of sale and great food, you will love it

  • Review 98 (2024-06-09 - Rating: 5)

It’s so cool that there’s a sake bar in nyc ! The time I spent there made me want to go back and learn sake. I ordered a glass of the Nigori and the portion was perfect. I also loved the vibe inside , dim lighting , good music. It felt like the perfect place to catch up with an old friend . The sake was enjoyable and you can ask the bartender what they recommend based on your preferences .

This is probably one of my favorite places in East village! The entire experience is amazing and just walking into the bar is a trip. You have to go downstairs through the bar, into another area that wraps around and finally reach the main room. The HUGE list of over 200 different sakes is amazing and the food was great. Very fast service and the ambience makes you feel like you are at a underground bar in Japan!!

Nice speakeasy for sake, they have a very extensive sake menu to choose from (hot and cold). I like the speakeasy vibe. The bar can get very crowded, so I recommend making a reservation, otherwise if you do get in they will cap you with a 1 hour time limit.

  • Review 101 (2019-09-25 - Rating: 5)

Great selection.of sake and quirky interior which makes for a great night out. Prices are a little steep for some of the bottles but others are very reasonable. Food is simple and tasty. Highly recommend a visit

  • Review 102 (2016-12-05 - Rating: 5)

Perfect place. I didnt like saké before trying it at this place! Saké and food are super good. But do not expect to always sit comfortably. They usually squeeze people at the tables.

  • Review 103 (2017-01-29 - Rating: 5)

Snug Japanese hipster sake bar. Packed with people, dim light and graffitis on the walls; stuff everywhere; busy but delicate staff; sake pouring from dozens of bottles and snacks piling up on the tables; excitement in the air.

  • Review 104 (2024-09-27 - Rating: 5)

    Perfect, hidden gem.

  • Review 105 (2022-10-27 - Rating: 5)

Now this place is VERY VERY cool. Excellent service. They accommodated us even though we did not have reservations. Excellent atmosphere.

  • Review 107 (2024-02-04 - Rating: 5)

Fun spot. Sake and bar bites. Dimly lit. Nice casual date or hang spot.

  • Review 108 (2021-11-04 - Rating: 5)

My favorite sake bar in nyc (the only one?). This place has an authentic grungy Japanese bar vibe that represents most of the city bars in Japan well.

  • Review 109 (2023-04-14 - Rating: 5)

Amazing sake selection on tap and by glass. Ask for recommendations as well. Certainly a jewel in the city.

  • Review 110 (2017-10-06 - Rating: 4)

Sake selection is great, expect not uncomfortable seats by the front bar or extra warm area with proper table seatings at the back. Atmosphere is great tho!

  • Review 111 (2022-11-27 - Rating: 5)

Go here with your date or alone. They have some of the best food in the city but its not for kids. Enjoy!

  • Review 112 (2017-03-07 - Rating: 4)

This underground enclave of graffiti and sound serves some mean sake and snacks off the beaten path in East Village. Get the tsukune rice burger with shishito and egg (actually from Yonekichi just down the street).

  • Review 113 (2016-01-27 - Rating: 5)

First time in a Sake bar and everything I hoped for! Huge list of Sake to choose from and the barman recommended something great. A cool place for late night drinks

  • Review 114 (2022-03-17 - Rating: 4)

The foods really good, I personally didnt like the tuna, but the takoyaki and karrage are great. Drinks are really strong.

  • Review 115 (2024-06-02 - Rating: 4)

Really cool bar - sake is excellent, so many choices, food was decent but only tried 2 dishes. Thought it a really solid place- service was great and helpful

  • Review 116 (2018-07-31 - Rating: 4)

Sake was great. A tad overpriced food, but great for a late night sake tasting evening. Liked the decor of the place, very unique

Cool and inexpensive sake bar in a great location.

  • Review 118 (2019-11-30 - Rating: 5)

Really cool place. Totally recommend it. I really enjoyed their gyozas.

  • Review 119 (2018-01-31 - Rating: 5)

One of my favorite NY bars. There is an unspoken protocol for getting a table there but dont let it steer you away from an authentic sake experience.

  • Review 120 (2018-01-23 - Rating: 5)

Great sake bar in the basement. It can get very hot and crowded though. Massive selection of sake. Solid food options as well.

  • Review 121 (2022-05-31 - Rating: 4)

Didnt order food, but the sake was good and the vibe was pretty great.

  • Review 122 (2023-01-18 - Rating: 5)

Really nice atmosphere with amazing food

  • Review 123 (2020-02-11 - Rating: 4)

One of my favorite places to go to in New York. It’s like walking into Japan when you enter. Great atmosphere and some good bottles of sake. There’s been several times I’ve gone and have been seated with strangers. I kind of dig that because you meet new and interesting people.

  • Review 124 (2019-09-07 - Rating: 5)

One of those places that makes NYC unique. Underground dive sake bar. It is a hot spot so you may need to wait. It will be worth it.

  • Review 125 (2019-07-22 - Rating: 4)

They have a good variety of sake! It gets a little too crowded on the weekends. But worth exploring once.

  • Review 126 (2017-08-08 - Rating: 5)

The perfect blend of grunge and class! Enormous sake list, surprisingly good small plates. This is a must go place.

  • Review 127 (2019-11-01 - Rating: 4)

Awesome vibe great sake selection. Food/snacks just OK but still highly recommend

  • Review 128 (2019-02-23 - Rating: 5)

There is a bit of a wait, dont piss off the bouncer--have your ID ready and dont think you can go past the rope. They have every sake you could ever think of and more. We only did sake and edamame, but had a wonderful time! Definitely worth the wait! I would absolutely go back, even with the 20 minute wait. We did have to share a table table to get in, but we got lucky and they were delightful people. They do over pour the sake--just pour the sake in the box into your cup. You get a decent amount! Loved the experience!

  • Review 129 (2018-11-10 - Rating: 5)

Tons of sake options. Great food.Sake choices were Mu and Garyubai. My friend and I got a ton of dishes - soba salad, tofu salad, salmon sashimi, and ebi shumai. Absolutely delicious. After dinner, we got the plum wine with soda, which is what the pictures were.Great sake, food and plum wine. Would come back here again.

Really cool undergroundish bar and restaurant..cool vibe in there and service was good

  • Review 131 (2018-04-18 - Rating: 5)

Love this place. Crowded, dirty, and dark, but gives you that nice authentic feel while you down bottles of sake.

  • Review 132 (2023-10-01 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 135 (2017-01-28 - Rating: 4)

Great sake selection. Dingy and dark. Has the feeling if a 1970s nyc subway car. But great sake selection.

  • Review 136 (2011-08-16 - Rating: 5)

Really cool sake bar. Barely visible entrance coupled with a dark atmosphere and pages of sake choices make whoever you bring think you know what youre talking about.

  • Review 137 (2017-04-14 - Rating: 5)

My go to for almost a decade. Wait in line for access to the back room. As intimate and cozy as a place covered in graffiti can get.

  • Review 138 (2024-05-11 - Rating: 5)

This is an unforgettable bar. The atmosphere is fantastic, besides the drinks and service.

  • Review 139 (2022-02-22 - Rating: 5)

Wow, what a hidden gem. Fantastic and authentic place. Great sake and Udon!

  • Review 140 (2023-10-21 - Rating: 5)

I actually enjoyed the sake here and Im not usually a sake person!Walked in here around 11pm on a Saturday night and only waited about 10 min for our party of 6. Its very cramped so dont expect to have a lot of room and it was really crowded but at the same time cozy. If you have ever been to bars in Japan, this bar will give you a familiar vibe.Good service, no frill kinda dive bar. No complaints - would love to return soon!

  • Review 141 (2020-09-20 - Rating: 5)

Great vibes and reasonably priced drinks. A nice hole in the wall spot for a couple of low-key drinks out.

  • Review 142 (2019-10-18 - Rating: 5)

Very unique place. Feels like stepping into an authentic restaurant in Japan. A place out of movies!

  • Review 143 (2021-03-31 - Rating: 4)

Currently only selling sake by bottle or limited by glass/carafe selection. They used to have a big sake list.

  • Review 144 (2018-10-23 - Rating: 5)

One of the places in NYC I hope will ALWAYS be there, with excellent small plates/snacks and SAKE of course. Chill vibe. LOVE.!

  • Review 145 (2018-04-12 - Rating: 4)

Decent restaurant but, although it was 30 degrees outside, it was so hot indoors. They cramp way too many people into a tiny space. The food was good, I recommend the lychee martini, as its very strong but still tastes like lychee.

  • Review 146 (2018-09-05 - Rating: 5)

Best sake bar Ive been to!Great ambiance, great service and drinks.

  • Review 147 (2017-09-13 - Rating: 4)

Go down past the On Air sign and follow the rabbit into this out of the way authentic Japanese watering hole serving a large selection of Sake; but dont forget your wallet because youre still in NYC and the bill will remind you of that.

  • Review 148 (2012-08-29 - Rating: 4)

A great hidden sake bar. Love going after sushi. Makes me feel like im back in japan.

  • Review 149 (2023-12-07 - Rating: 4)

Really great spot to relax and have some good sake. The menu has been pared down a bit. The wasabi octopus continues to be great as with sake. I do miss some of the old menus items. Not a bad place to bring friends but no longer a favorite spot.
