I took my husband here for a date night in celebration of his birthday since we are both passionate about music & because it was our first time experiencing live Jazz and we both loved the show. The musicians here are very talented & you can feel & hear the passion & joy they play their instruments with, taking us for an amazing music ride which truly made us enjoy our time there.I highly recommend getting tickets in advance (online) otherwise you must show up way ahead of showtime since a very limited quantity of tickets are released at the door & entrance would not be guaranteed. Not sure if they take credit cards because we paid cash $25 each.No food only drinks; alcoholic & nonalcoholic are served here and the show lasts an hour so once finished you must exit the space.Highly recommend for a very New York Jazz experience, we would be back in the future. -

We had an amazing time here. The sound was great, the setting intimate and not too packed. The servers are amazing along with the phenomenal band. -

Manhattan jazz club...sweet spot! Street parking, close to restaurants, cover charge and 1 drink minimum. Small space in the basement. Excellent music, nice ppl, 2 lines paid and wait list/walk in. Great show 1 hour...no good. All music and drinks... -

A wonderful jazz club located in Greenwich Village. The club is open every day and has a variety of gigs. It even has jam sessions starting at midnight! I went to a Sunday afternoon jam session with free entry and a small cover fee. In the first hour the house band that day play charts, and there is then a jam for the next two hours. The standard of playing is high and anybody can play with an instrument - I brought some sticks and enjoyed a few charts on kit. Recommended for jazz lovers and also musicians who want to play jazz in the world’s jazz capital. -

Went here about three years back. Saul Rubin played. The drummer literally moved the crowd and Saul Rubins notes played like a religious experience. 10/10 I would highly recommend going here if you authentically love jazz and the city. Its a tight spot, hence the name. The music and aesthetic is even tighter. This is hands down my favorite place in the city. -

We made a reservation at Smalls in Soho to experience a jazz performance for a break in the middle of our journey. The midweek performance reservation was $35 per person. There was no set fee, but we ordered one drink per person. It is always a great experience to hear the performance live. The performance hall is definitely air-conditioned, so it would be helpful for women to bring a cardigan or jacket. -

The musicians were very talented and the crowd was engaged the entire time. Even on a rainy night, the house was packed and with a line waiting outside ready for the next show. The server was sweet and attentive to the large crowd of people. The seating is tight, but other than that the tickets were very affordable compared to other jazz bars and there was only a one drink minimum per person. I recommend this place to anyone interested in an authentic jazz bar experience, just be sure to arrive early so you can get first dibs on seating! -

No food - which is fine by me. The atmosphere was great. When I went there was a huge line, so be ready to get there early to grab a good seat.1 drink minimum spend -

ONE TWO READY GO 🎷Jazz has the power to change LIVES. Tonight, my life, I wouldn’t say was super changed but I could see that there was power in this form. It could change a life.Smalls is a tight, nitty gritty New York classic. Squeeze in and enjoy some rhythmic pleasure and make sure to tap your foot to the beat. It’s the first rule of jazz.THANKS. 🛩️ -

Difficult to encapsulate the whole experience into a concise review, but Ill try. I saw Joe Magnarelli Quintet here on my blessed birthday, 12/08/2023. The Quintet was fantastic. Piano, upright bass, trombone, percussion, and Joe on the trumpet. The set was brilliant, with Freddie Hubbard, Dexter Gordon, and my personal favorite Herbie Hancock represented. There was also a Christmas tune in there, but they did a good one. Much appreciation goes out to the band, who made my birthday night special. The waitress who brought drinks to our seats was also very good, she was prompt to get us another round but did not inordinately obstruct our view of the performance. Drinks are a little pricey but its to be expected in a specialty venue such as this. There is a one-drink minimum but not any sort of strict dress code. I was dressed in khakis and a sweater and I felt completely comfortable. The name is very appropriate, as it is a very small basement joint, and the place fills up very quickly. If youre going out on a weekend, especially during the holiday season, I would highly recommend a reservation. Both the early and the late set on Friday the 8th sold completely out, so Im glad I bought tickets in advance. It was a really fun experience and I would be very happy to have the chance to revisit this place. I only wish there were more places like it left in New York. -
Review 13 (2024-11-01 - Rating: 5)
I’ve been here twice and they really book top-notch musicians to play here. So good that I added a group to my Spotify after. GREAT, great live music, a testament of NYC being the birthplace of jazz. I’d come here if you’re more interested in paying attention to hearing good music and less if you’re trying to socialize/lounge somewhere. -

First time here! It was super cozy! In a basement! Which definetly enhanced the listening. The performers were amazing and the staff was super nice! -
Review 15 (2023-12-28 - Rating: 5)
Wow, amazing experience, highly recommended. I feel like the bartender could use another bartender, but then wed all just drink more. Drinks were amazing and the music from the Matt Jorgensen quartet was sublime. -

Sister location for Mezzrow, run my same establishment. One of the famous spots for jazz in townBasement spacious venue with intimate cozy vibes. Many seating options.I prefer the bar area to get a nice view of the stage and the audience, but it gets little chattier.Friendly staff, good service, would recommend the management to consider more comfortable seats.Went there twice since Im a jazz fan, the performers are good and they have live streaming too or if you want to check their free recorded session on YouTube.Get tickets online to avoid lineups -

Awesome jazz club with phenomenal musicians, and plenty of high-quality performances. Highly recommended, especially if you want a real New York city live Jazz experience. All the staff are friendly, and the drinks are reasonably priced and they offer tasty snacks. Highest recommendation! Enjoy! -
Review 18 (2024-11-02 - Rating: 5)
One of the crown jewel jazz clubs in the United States. Even the house musicians who play regularly are top tier.Get there 30 mins before the show and youll have your pick of seats! I personally like sitting up front at the bar. -

Awesome tiny jazz club in the heart of Greenwich. We loved our night here. The jazz was fantastic. -
Review 20 (2023-09-15 - Rating: 5)
Recently traveled from Australia to New York mostly to check out the jazz clubs and out of the clubs I visited, Smalls by far had the best and most casual atmosphere. I’m a bit sad there’s nothing like this place where I live as I said to my wife during the show we attended that I would be a weekly regular here if I lived locally. They host an eclectic array of jazz artists but they all stay true to the jazz traditions so you can be pretty much guaranteed to enjoy whoever is playing on the night you attend. Even better this is not a club like Smoke or Village Vanguard that kicks you out after one set - we were allowed to stay as long as we wanted during multiple sets. Service (drinks only) was friendly and the venue is intimate without being crowded like a few other clubs can be. Smalls was definitely my pick of the New York jazz clubs. Hope to return one day if I ever go to New York again. -
Review 21 (2024-03-22 - Rating: 5)
Top class, intimate, dimly lit joint. My first real jazz club experience and it did not disappoint, felt like in the 1950’s this room was probably filled with smoke and vibes. Great acoustics and drinks were reasonably priced, I even got an iced coffee with the help of the server. Will go again! -
Review 22 (2024-09-17 - Rating: 5)
A legendary spot—if youre a jazz lover in NYC, missing out on Smalls would be a crime.Tip 1: Most people choose to sit in the audience area facing the stage, but give it a shot for sitting behind the piano. It’s an amazing experience.Tip 2: Tickets are often sold out on the website for popular shows, but you can also simply walk in for a cheaper price if you come right before the performance starts. -
Review 23 (2023-07-18 - Rating: 5)
Incredible, historic jazz club. The place is small and intimate, so much so that little or no amplification is needed for most instruments. The acoustics are great for jazz, especially since its packed with bodies. The club has good AC and stays cool throughout the show. Saw some great musicians here recently, and will definitely be coming back for other gigs. -
Review 24 (2023-11-08 - Rating: 5)
From the moment I stepped into this space, I let go of my usual role as the protagonist in my own life story. Tonight, I was content to be an observer, surrendering the spotlight to the real main characters. In this intimate setting, I found myself immersed in a different kind of story. The music filled the air with its captivating beauty, and the audience was a diverse yet harmonious community, brought together by a shared sense of curiosity. Amidst this enchanting backdrop, even the cocktails felt like an integral part of the experience. Here, the focus was not on chasing fame or fortune but on sharing a genuine passion. The atmosphere was undeniably romantic. In this moment and once again, I can’t help but feel that I have found the New York I have always dreamt of. -
Review 25 (2023-11-19 - Rating: 5)
We were told to check this spot out after a show at Village Vanguard. Great advice! Caught the jazz jam session until 3 am, great players and drinks! -
Review 26 (2023-01-22 - Rating: 5)
We watched our first ever live jazz show and that too of David Weiss sixtet. It was amazing performance by the group. The place is small and intimate and we found the front row seat as we arrived almost an hour early before start, so would recommend that you go in early for better seats even if you have reservations. It’s typical New York place, small in size but too much talent 🤩 -
Review 27 (2019-05-26 - Rating: 5)
Arrive early to get your tickets in advance and to find a nice place to sit. The experience was amazing, really good music and cozy environment. They don’t serve any food here so eat before/after you go and you should be fine. The tickets also grants you access to another jazz bar across the street and for all the shows firings the night, definitely a must if you’re a jazz fan or just want to enjoy a quality evening in NYC. -
Review 28 (2024-10-11 - Rating: 5)
One of my favourite places in NYC, this is a must visit for those who enjoy live music where the audience becomes part of the act. Tip - Try going on a saturday night for the last show which you can book online - they jam late into the morning hours long after the show is over. Excellent artists join the jam and every 30 minutes they keep shuffling. Discovered a few gems for my sound cloud in this dig. -
Review 29 (2023-12-26 - Rating: 5)
Great jazz club. Definitely recommend. Go there 40 mins before opening time to get one of the walk-in tickets (costs 25$ versus the 40$ regular fee). Note that there is only 15 walk-in tickets per show, so be there early!(There is no food served, just drinks) -
Review 30 (2024-10-18 - Rating: 5)

Loved it.. best Jazz spot in NY . Its just big enough to have a great vibe. The waiter was top notch and very attentive. If you are looking for a place to listen to GOOD jazz and dont want to feel like you just have been fleeced, then look no further. Highly recommended best prices and best jazz -

Amazing atmosphere, talented musicians, and vocalists. Great service. I really enjoyed Maci Miller(vocal), Mike Boone(bass), and his talented jazz band! -
Review 33 (2022-09-25 - Rating: 5)
Just the right kind of little, classic place for intimate, good jazz! Don’t blink as you walk by or you’ll miss the door. Saw Richie Vitale Quintet album release. The five of them just barely fit on the stage. Get there early for front row or a table but no bad seat in house. Whole club and bar is in basement of small restaurant above. We got tix online ahead of time, got in well with those. I think it was one drink minimum per person per set. -
Review 34 (2021-10-12 - Rating: 5)
Wow! Wow! Wow! Great music for a great price. We went for the Adam Birnbaum Quartet show and our minds were blown. It’s a super intimate space with great vibes. The drinks were pretty good and the waitress did a great job getting around to everyone in the club. I will 100% be coming back. -
Review 35 (2024-10-14 - Rating: 4)
The place isnt called smalls for no reason. Its very tiny and when I went it was PACKED. That made it pretty difficult to move around, but other than that, it was a great experience. The drinks are reasonably priced ($20 for 2 vodka crans) and the music was top tier. -
Review 36 (2023-05-14 - Rating: 5)
Loved this place and the vibes were amazing.Jazz lovers, this is a place to visit while you are in the city. Very cozy and serves the purpose of jazz. The employees are very friendly and fun.I recommend you go a bit early before the show starts as it will be hard to find seats when it gets busy. -
Review 37 (2024-08-18 - Rating: 4)
It’s definitely an institution you ought to see once in New York! The place is quite small and feels intimate, the musicians were great - I especially enjoyed that they added a trumpet and bass for the last song (to the guitar, contrabass and drums). For walk-ins, it’s a 25$ charge plus a drink (wine 12-14$; cocktails 15$; beer 5-8$). It’s also good to be early since you can choose your seat once you’re there. The performance lasts exactly an hour what felt a bit rushed and like mass processing (which it probably is;)). the place is absolutely freezing so you should bring an extra layer. -
Review 38 (2021-08-01 - Rating: 4)
First time here and as the name would suggest, it’s a cozy venue! We stayed masked except for sipping drinks. It has many of the best parts of charming downtown venues, but is also quiet cramped and in disrepair, so don’t come thinking this will be a swanky venue. Staff was great and drink service organized and efficient. The most important part, the JAZZ, was awesome and I left abuzz. -
Review 39 (2024-07-14 - Rating: 5)
Cozy cellar jazz club in west village. Very good musicians and atmosphere. Good service. Drinks are very standard, but you’re not coming here for a cocktail loungeFyi it’s a tight squeeze, so expect to be close to other patrons! -
Review 40 (2024-07-28 - Rating: 5)
I went to a few jazz venues when I visited NYC and this, for me, is the quintessential jazz venue. Compact, close to the music with a ton of atmosphere. Service was efficient and polite (as I found across NYC). My favourite of the places I sampled. -

Review 42 (2022-11-03 - Rating: 5)
Amazing ambience and I loved this live jazz experience! Great musicians. Drinks were okay- a bit slow but the wait was alright because of the music. Customer service was also great! Overall enjoyed my time and would love to come back. -

Simply THE BEST Jazz club/place in entire NYC. A real Jazz lives here and you’ll have the chance to be very close to what happens in stage -
Review 44 (2019-11-30 - Rating: 5)
I will never forget all the nights that I have spent in Smalls. This little underground jazz bar gave me a huge impact the moment I stepped in, the sound, the music, the atmosphere and the crowd. I particularly enjoyed the jam session after midnight when all the young and energetic musicians gather and practice their skills. I came here three straight nights and stayed until 3am because I dont want to miss out anything. It has been a year and I wish I will be here very soon. -
Review 45 (2018-06-12 - Rating: 4)
Beautiful underground jazz club with amazing bands and tasty cocktails. Downsides are entrance ($20) plus one-drink-minimum policy, as well as lack of comfortable seating, especially when it’s crowded. Otherwise still worth the experience! -
Review 46 (2022-09-30 - Rating: 5)
I had heard a lot about Jazz clubs in NYC. So this first time that we came to NYC we were offered to visit one by one our friends. It was really amazing experience and I like the band. Bar people in this club were also nice and caring. We had a few good drinks while listening to the band.I highly recommend this place. Remember to book in advance and be there in time as you would get the perfect seat. -
Review 47 (2024-12-08 - Rating: 5)
Swank Jazz spot always delivers! Joy has the cocktails flowing; Rida and Spike make it happen, easy sweet vibe- love it here. -
Review 48 (2021-07-12 - Rating: 5)
Had a lovely night here this last weekend! An hour of pure jazzy tones. The place, as the name implies, is small, but its very worth the experience and expense - which goes to helping artists continue to playing at venues according to their mission statement. The drink menu is a bit limited and I dont recommend their cosmo (I dont usually get a cosmo, but this one was mostly juice Im afraid). That being said, I went for the music, not the drinks. The atmosphere is cozy and everyone in that establishment was all about the jazz! -

Hi everybody. This is a tough review to write. Why, you ask yourself? Its simple. There is a different concert every day. Our concert was fun and delightful. Yours? Its up to the musicians. Cross your fingers and pray for the Lord. Maybe your concert will be just fine. -

Had a great night listening to live music here. Great band followed by a jam session with lots of young musicians coming up to play.It was a Thursday night and it was $25 cover plus one drink minimum. Well worth in my opinion. -

I have been going to Smalls Jazz Club for several years now to get my jazz and live music fix and I have to say, it is a quintessential gem in NYCs jazz scene. The intimate setting, coupled with outstanding performances, creates an unparalleled experience for jazz enthusiasts. The talent showcased here is exceptional, making every visit a musical journey worth taking. A 5-star haven for jazz lovers. -

Jazz lovers paradise. One of the places old, true jazz joints left standing. If you like jazz you should go.Great staff and service makes it that much better. Marissa the lone bartender serving a crowd of say 75ish was amazingly attentive to everyone -

Waitress was super attentive and gave a great recommendation for a cocktail. I didnt have tickets and was able to sit at the bar. I was by my self so it may be a different situation with more people. Amazing band. Great ambiance. Overall highly recommend. -
Review 57 (2022-08-31 - Rating: 5)
This place is an awesome venue. Really intimate with the band which is cool. We showed up at 7pm for a 7:30pm show and got front row seats. It’s incredible to sit so close, feel the music, and observe the band. I highly recommend coming here… and buying your ticket ahead of time! -
Review 58 (2023-01-21 - Rating: 5)
Cramped as hell, but thats the idea. Hole-in-the-wall jazz lounges with a pedigree Like this one are a rarity. Its about the music, as it should be. There is a drink minimum and while the bar is fine and they have a great selection, I come for the funk, the riff, the solo and the wail. A mellow but energetic shady corner of the city, the perfect hot spot on a cold winter night. I hope to go back soon. -

Came for afternoon open mic. Really enjoyable watching crazy talented people just pop in and play. No cover and one drink minimum. Highly recommended. -
Review 61 (2017-11-15 - Rating: 5)
The $20 cover is well worth the talent you experience inside. Arrived at 12:30a and stayed till 3:30a; saw some of the best improv sets ever. Be sure to talk to Robert the artist who, with sharpie, draws the artists in real time. Badass. -
Review 62 (2019-08-24 - Rating: 5)
Jazz lovers from around the world or those looking for a typical and intimate New York cultural experience are advised to come to the little pub on W 10th st. Called the Smalls Jazz Club. The place has been operating for over 20 years and host talented players and bands. The atmosphere is intimate and close, and the front row people can really touch the artists soul, okay sometimes even his foot or cello ... I already said - a unique experience ... :) The original owner of the place, Mitch Borden is usually at the entrance and responsible for the line.He opened a pub of the same style, also in the village called Mezzrow. Make sure to check the home page and follow the show schedule. a one hour arrival is recommanded. -
Review 63 (2019-05-06 - Rating: 5)
Wow! If you really want an authentic jazz club/dive bar experience, this is the place! As soon as you walk down and into the room you are taken back to another time. The acoustics are barely amplified and absolutely brilliant. The act we saw was so impactful, raw and (even though we were sat near the back) almost within touching distance. This leads me to say that smalls is very intimate.I cant take stars off for this but the price of entry could be considered a little high ($20) but honestly its worth it. A one drink minimum is also applicable but they are reasonably priced. The main downside, which we didnt know until chatting to a lovely couple in the queue (got there an hour before the first act and the queue was round the block), is that you only get an hour set for your money. It is such a great place you feel fortunate to have the experience of an hour, but wish it could go on longer. You can purchase an additional set for a continuous $20 per hour. -
Review 64 (2024-11-03 - Rating: 5)
An incredible experience - as a tourist wanting to see live jazz in New York, this was unbelievable. I was nervous to not go with the “catered towards tourist” venues and so so glad I went with Smalls! The musicians are extremely talented, I couldn’t get over how beautiful and truly mesmerising the experience was. We arrived five minutes before to a sassy staff member on the door (wasn’t our fault, we weren’t allowed to leave the previous venue we were in so had to rush to get there) so that wasn’t great, very pass agg, nor were we late or holding anyone up. The servers inside were really friendly. but honestly the music was breathtaking and worth every penny. Get there early for a good seat but we weren’t bothered about that as we were there for the music. Would recommend to anyone. -
Review 65 (2024-10-17 - Rating: 5)
Cozy underground Jazz Bar. I recommend to get the last slot of the day as afterwards there are often Jam Sessions that are until late into the night (included in your ticket price). -
Review 66 (2022-12-30 - Rating: 5)
Smalls Jazz Club was an experience I will never forget. An intimate and exhilarating place. I felt like everyone in there had mutual love for the real thing. I’m a photographer for musicians and artists and have photographed many shows in my life but this was memorable and different. Back to basics in a way and like going back in time as we walked in the door. All the outside world just disappeared and worries go away. We saw Ari Hoenig work his magic there and our love for music changed that night. I had a new respect for jazz and Smalls became a favorite. -
Review 67 (2018-07-07 - Rating: 4)
A cozy basement with lively jazz performances almost every night. The cover for a 1 hour performance is $20 and the drinks are not expensive. Overall its not the best place for jazz but there friendly atmosphere and cheap tickets and drinks make it easy to recommend. -

What a terrific Jazz Club if you desire enjoy an amazing music you must come to this place.Cozy environment, friendly staff, fair price and well located. The Club isn’t crowded so it is not a concern for those who are claustrophobic. I am not sure if they serve any sort of food but there plenty places around where you can have same meal. -
Review 69 (2019-05-18 - Rating: 4)
Small jazz club playing traditional and awesome jazz. Aim to get there at least 45 minutes before the show starts and line up on the street. It gets busy and people always get turned away at the end of the line. Also note that its cash only to enter ($20) and there is a one drink minimum (which can be paid on card). There is an ATM across the street. It can be quite loud on the front row so be aware. -
Review 70 (2022-07-30 - Rating: 5)
Located in the village, this spot is as cozy as it gets. The atmosphere was upbeat.Went on a Thursday night and got to the door 30ish before the show, and got in without getting reserved tickets. We sat through 3 sets, which is possible of there isnt massive demand to get in. Staff were kind, though unfortunately due to the small space of the venue a waiter tripped trying to avoid stepping on anyone while avoiding a trombone and soaked my leg in beer. No real harm done.Just be wary of the splash zones, but kidding aside this place has good bones, a nice staff, good cocktails (decent pours bout 12 or 16$ depending on liquor used). The beers are about 8-9$ but based on the neighborhood its not as marked up as it could be for a club (8$ happy hours being advertised by other restaurants????).Food selection is small, but there isnt room for much else but nuts and olives. If you want an intimate venue with a great rotation of artists, you cant go wrong with Smalls. -

Unforgettable jazz experience in the heart of NYC. Small, intimate venue that makes the atmosphere even more memorable. I would book online, as its tricky to get tickets on the spot. -
Review 72 (2022-07-11 - Rating: 5)
For my two cents it’s the greatest jazz club in America. The aura/ambience are conducive to magic, which happens regularly, last Monday’s Joe Farnsworth being most recent for me. Prices are fair, staff is friendly and Spike Wilner the owner has done more for jazz in NYC than anyone, including the livestreams during the high hysteria of Covid. It’s as intimate a setting as can be found. -

Review 74 (2017-02-22 - Rating: 5)
Very small place with a lot of character. When you walk in you feel that there is a lot of history in the place. It is cozy and there are no bad seats as it is so small that even from the back you are close to the performers. Drinks were good, prices are what you would expect for a club. Will definitely be back. -

Had a phenomenal night of jazz at this iconic venue. Went on a Saturday night at about 1:30 am and it was packed right up till 4. We were still able to get seats, first in back, then up front on the right. Highly recommend the latter, as some musicians were playing in the front aisle during the open session that started around 2:30. -

What a great place! Nice staff, good drinks and amazing music. The price seemed high for my standards but it was definitely worth it. The place is small but doesnt feel crowded with all the people inside. The atmosphere is very casual and makes you want to stay there whole night, especially during the jam sessions with so many talented people around. -

Historical bar and a landmark in New York. The space is what you should expect from a basement jazz bar: cozy. Service is ok with am good variety of wine and beers - also some appetizers. But the true experience here is to see a jazz band )or any jazz / blues variety) in this little space, making you feel like your listening in your own living room. Enjoy this experience and, most of all, arrive early and enjoy the free entrance in their other bar once you leave Smalls! -

I really like this place. Ive been twice. I like the open jam sessions at the end of the night. I also like the band that plays there before. I love the idea of this, Young jazz musicians getting together collaborating and creating right in front of you.The staff is really nice Theres usually alot of young people and musicians. its super loud with the crowd of music and jazz lovers but still a great atmosphere. Luv it -

Lovely jazz club with a very intimate atmosphere in a basement of a building near Chelsea. It fits probably no more than 50 people which helps to build this feeling of a unique experience. Be aware: arrive early, I mean at least 20 minutes before the show starts if you one to score a ticket and get a good spot. There are many spots in the club where you won’t be able to see the musicians (although you will hear them). There are at least two shows, you pay for each one of them and your ticket gives you admission two a second jazz club across the avenue. -

Music was good, space is intimate. On busy nights, you will want to line up early to get tickets/seating. For a Sunday 7.30pm set, we were told to line up 6.30-6.45pm (they’ll open the doors to let you in at 7pm). If you come late, you might not get in - or may end up standing room only. $20 cover and 1 drink minimum per set. -

Get a ticket a few days in advance online and then show up about 30 min prior to your set time to line up for seats. Usually a 1 drink minimum order per set. A must experience! -

Smalls Jazz Club is such an iconic spot for live jazz in the West Village of Manhattan!! The atmosphere inside of this club is incredible, as its intimate, warm, and cozy. During the sets, no matter where youre sitting, you feel like youre really close to the musicians, which is awesome!! The bartenders make great cocktails, and the service is quick + efficient. I highly recommend this jazz club - go visit them! :-) -

The intimate atmosphere of Smalls is what makes me keep coming back again and again. When you go down the stairs into the venue, you are immediately reminded of stepping into a 1960s funky West village room. You sit among friends and strangers and share a beautiful musical experience. At Smalls, no show is the same but all have this same intimate, powerful quality. The tickets are always $20, attracting all walks of people. There is a one drink minimum, but they have a good selection. I will continue to go here and will continue to recommend. -

Every time Im in NYC this is a must. Read the small print on the web site so you can get the most out of your night there. Their sister club one block away (Mezzarow) is also amazing and maybe a little less packed with much better seating. Your ticket should get you access to both clubs. Enjoy. 😁 -

A genuine jazz experience in a basement club in the Village. Yes theres plenty, but only one Smalls. A place the musicians want to play and the crowd knows it. Jams on weekends. Decent drinks, no food, and tons of atmosphere. Repeat offender many times over. -

Very talented local jazz musicians and a great listening atmosphere with a wide selection of drinks. Would recommend getting tickets beforehand, but thankful that the staff was able to find us some extra seats last minute when we stopped by spontaneously for a date night! The basement location is very unique and intimate such that you may thoroughly enjoy the music and feel relaxed and away from the rush of the city. -

Smalls is an institution here in nyc, and they feature some of the best musicians, whether well-known or not. The seating is tight so servicing drinks is tricky, but the music will keep you happy. There are plenty of mirrors, which helps with viewing. Get there by 7. There is always a line. -

Very impressive music groups are playing there. and they allow kids which is a plus for a tourist family. İf your kids enjoy a jazz performance, it is very good and hard to find in the world. We have been there twice during our 6 day trip. The club is very small and the seats are not comfortable. Also you need to wait in the queue even if you have a reservation. There are 2 sessions in a night. Each sessions takes 2 Hours but the groups are playing only for 1 hour or max 1hour 15 min, if you are lucky. We ordered a bottle of wine for 2 person and had to drink fast as we had to leave before the next session... -

Great little place. It is a different experience and intimate experience. Is a must if you enjoy jazz. My only constructive criticism is about the cocktails (cheap spirits) and in our case the server added a tip automatically and handed the terminal back in the additional tip screen which I didn’t realize. -

Its a relatively small, dark basement joint ... and so its perfect for a relaxed and relaxing evening of jazz. The (drink) service is friendly, frequent and efficient, and the mixologist has real skills. Its almost like walking back in time to when talented musicians offered their best and you could sit mere feet from the stage as they did: it makes for memorable experiences whose positive vibes lift and linger.... -

Just great jazz, never been disappointed, always outstanding... Love Sunday to Thursday better when you can stay as long as you want and not only for one session... Try to get a place in front of youre there for the jazz, the back is too often filled with ignorants who talk too much and too loud after too much alcohol... Apart from that nothing bad, though they have been friendlier years ago when it was not that popular... -

I always have a great time at Smalls. Its an intimate venue with a great vibe. Advance tickets at $35 can feel pricey but are often worth it, though I usually opt to pay $25 at the door instead (but if you try on a busy weekend, you may be stuck waiting a while). Seating is first-come, first-serve. No cover after 1am means Smalls is one of my favorite spots to end the night at - seeing artists enjoy their time during the late night jam sessions is the best. -

My first jazz club experience in the city, and always my favorite.Make sure you do a bit of band research before ordering, ALWAYS order tickets ahead of time, get in line EARLY to get a good seat, and of course, enjoy the drinks. We were looking for an authentic New York jazz club experience, and Smalls delivered! We reserved our tickets online, and when we arrived we found a line of folks waiting to get in. You can either reserve your tickets in advance, or you can wait in line to see if there are any remaining seats. We didnt want to chance it, so did the reservation. The line moved quickly and we found our seats. There is a one drink minimum purchase required, but it can be water or juice or whatever you desire, doesnt have to be alcohol. On the night we went the Lew Tabackin Trio played, and the energy they brought to the club was amazing. The atmosphere and ambience of the club was perfect. The staff were all friendly and upbeat. Smalls is a must-visit stop if you want to hear real jazz. -

A great albeit short experience:)A unique pesronal jazz club which does not have that overwhelming impersonal sense of being in a touristic destination jazz club. It feels like a neighborhood jazz club which as a new Yorker has become a rare experience. Music and the musicians were also great. Drink options and cocktails are average but the music in this little jazz club with its quintessential new york ambiance compensates for it. Such a pity that the programs are only one hour. It is enough time to appreciate the experience but not really enough time to savour it. That is why I gave it 4 starts , the programs need to be at least 1 hour and a half.Otherwise love this place -

Been coming here for over a decade. You used to be able to walk-in on a Friday night no problem, just stand shoulder-to-shoulder with some strangers. Review 148 (2022-06-20 - Rating: 5)
The club is great! Good music, that mostly depends on who you go to see though and your taste. But other than that the club itself is very small hence the name smalls. So, if you want a seat make sure to get there early and claim your seat because if not you might be in a spot thats too far or not so nice. All depends on where you like to sit in an audience though. Im not sure how the drinks are Ive never tried them because I dont really drink 😅😂. Im mainly there for the music. They dont sell food either so if you plan on eating get food before the show! Or make sure your preferred restaurant isnt closed before you head to smalls for your show so you can eat there afterwards. But its a great spot! If you ever cant physically be there in the club they live stream all their performances and post them on their website hope that helps. They also have a sister club called Mezzrow to check out. -

They have great shows. The music is quite amazing and you will enjoy your evening here as long as you come in early and grab a good seat. Entry is around $15-$20 and they have a 1 drink minimum. The drinks are good and decently priced. As the name suggests, this place is quite small and gets very packed on weekends. The only gripe I have is that there were no seats left in the seating area or at the bar and standing room was also almost full and the person at the door said that there were still some seats left! Its a very popular places so they shouldnt really have to pack people in like that to get their sales up. People standing at the back have to play musical chairs and be on the lookout for someone leaving from the bar or seating area to grab a seat. Only thing I can say is come early to get a seat. -

The owners have been dedicated to helping young talent develop in the heart of NYC and the club now has the authenticity of a Village Vanguard due to it’s careful nurturing of talent and history!!!I love performing there as well! Spike is a great host and he always makes sure that the band is well taken care of! The staff is courteous and kind! The admission charge is reasonable as are the drink prices! It’s a great club to see and support cutting edge jazz. Seating is pretty tight, so come early, and with reservations! Venue is not pretty and comfy, but music is fine, especially if youre in the latest show and musicians start dropping in for a Jam session, kinda awesome. Music was good, but most likely will go elsewhere next time we go back to NYC. -
