This was such a cute spot to walk into on a week night. We went around 7pm on a Wednesday and the restaurant was at about 20% capacity. The food was good and the vibe was chill and great for talking. I like this spot for girls nights as well as a more intimate date.

I truly feel I found a hidden gem in this restaurant that’s located in one of my favorite neighborhoods in New York. This restaurant is absolutely fabulous! It is also very reasonably priced. Our waitress was ver kind to us. I’m always on the lookout for a restaurant that serves brunch because I love having breakfast and brunch. When I read the menu that it serves oatmeal I absolutely had to come because it’s very hard to find a restaurant that serves great oatmeal. The dish is called Oatmeal “Cappuccino”. I thought it was very creative to put steamed milk on top of the oatmeal. I loved it! The Pullman bread was very delicious served with seasonal jam and apple butter. That’s also something I’ve never seen before as well. I’ve never seen a restaurant serve apple butter. My friend ordered the scrambled eggs with home fries and salad. She loved the vinaigrette on top of the salad. She thoroughly enjoyed her meal very much. I will definitely come back because there are other things I really want to try. I’m so happy I discovered this restaurant. I highly recommend it to everyone.

Absolutely out of this world. The chicken, lamb shanks, and “little shoes” are a few of their items that I crave on a regular basis. Incredible flavors, perfectly cooked, and everything is juicy and flavorful. Kind service too!

  • Review 4 (2023-05-24 - Rating: 5)

A quaint Greek eatery in the west village that is great for a casual dinner. The “whole shebang” and lamb triangles are two items I highly recommend from the whole menu. The service can be slow when they are busy, but no rush at all, they are attentive and friendly. Will definitely be back!

  • Review 5 (2022-07-26 - Rating: 5)

These two dishes were exquisite. The depth and complexity of the flavors, reflect the abundance of spices that went into them. Also the bread was warm. 9/10.1. lamb triangles (spiced lamb, capers, graviera cheese baked in phyllo)2. muhammara (red pepper, pomegranate, walnuts, harissa and peasant bread)

  • Review 6 (2019-06-03 - Rating: 4)

Food was good overall. Portion sizes were somewhat mismatched compared to plate prices. Waiter was friendly. Service could have been a bit more prompt though. Maybe a second visit might be five stars.

Snack TavernaEst. 2003Layout/atmosphere*Small, intimate room; bar to left (no seats, espresso machine); tables; Greek products (empty) on shelves and old black & white photos of family members; white lights in window; Teddy Salvas pictures in the bathroomService*OKFood/drink*KEO Lager*Tzatziki (yogurt, cucumber, garlic, dill) with pita bread - good; noticeable pieces of cucumber*Lamb Triangles (spiced lamb, capers, graviera cheese in baked phyllo) with side salad - good; phyllo right amount of flaky crust; some heat from lamb; hint of herbs; sauce on the side was tangy and also spicy

  • Review 8 (2024-02-17 - Rating: 5)

The brioche French toast and Avacado toast were amazing! Very quaint atmosphere, attentive service and great location!

  • Review 9 (2022-04-16 - Rating: 4)

Enjoyed the vegetarian options more than the pork dish. Recommend making reservations!

  • Review 10 (2024-05-26 - Rating: 5)

Cozy restaurant without hype or pretentiousness. Abundant portions, especially the taverna salad! Delicious and fresh ingredients. Can’t go wrong with anything on this menu. Host was so friendly and kind.

  • Review 11 (2018-02-17 - Rating: 5)

The lamb triangles and the lamb shank alone are reasons enough to come here in the winter. But add on their delicious trio of dips and shrimp? Youre in for a treat. Im a huge fan of their rice pudding--not too sweet or mushy but delectable with pine nuts. Service was okay but the food, oh the food! The food is superb.

  • Review 12 (2024-07-28 - Rating: 5)

Ate with friends tapas style. Everything we had was delicious, zucchini fritters and lamb triangles being highlights

  • Review 13 (2024-07-30 - Rating: 5)

Delicious and fairly priced meal in West Village. Cool vibe inside. Would recommend

  • Review 14 (2023-11-15 - Rating: 5)

Cozy atmosphere, nice wait staff (who were great for discussing the menu), but the star of the show was the terrific food. Small plates, mains, and desserts were all terrific, particularly the rosemary chicken. Great change of pace from the usual New York fare.

  • Review 15 (2024-05-17 - Rating: 5)

The best branzino I have ever tried. Lots of healthy options and a great ambiance. Portions are big and that I really enjoyed!!! The sampler was delicious as well. Cappuccino was delicious. Would be back soon!!!! Highly recommending!!!!!

  • Review 16 (2023-02-11 - Rating: 5)

Food was delicious, clean, and quick… service was on point too. Had the omelet for brunch and my Tia had the house smoked pork souvlaki platter- amazing! Great flavor, clean ingredients, and overall delicious. Mimosa was well made too. I would highly recommend!

  • Review 17 (2024-05-04 - Rating: 5)

It is a very cozy and quiet place. All dishes were incredibly tasty and large. You can easily fill up on healthy Greek cuisine

  • Review 18 (2019-03-09 - Rating: 4)

Love this place. Ordered 3 items. Zuchinni fritter veal meatballs and whole branzino. The service is excellent. Asked for branzino whole instead of fillet. Waiter asked kitchen to cook it whole and it waa delicious

This place is incredible and well priced for the quality of the food. We went in for an early dinner and every single thing we ordered was perfect! We had the hummus, zucchini fritters, Greek salad, spinach triangles and dolmates. Every dish was unique, balanced and so delicious. Excellent service as well. I would eat here every week if I could!

Just had lunch. What a delightful place and a perfect server, John. Very tasty dishes. The dip sampler was sooooo good. Also the lentil soup, portabella skewers and the salad. We were visiting our son who lives nearby. Great place in West village. Look for John. He is a natural

Some quality Greek inspired food. Really liked their salads!

  • Review 23 (2023-04-05 - Rating: 5)

Lovely for breakfast, lunch or snack. Love the atmosphere we had the buttermilk pancakes, Greek yogurt with granola. Very enjoyable. However the cappuccino needs to be better, I asked for extra hot and it was just lukewarm and the taste was ok...

  • Review 24 (2024-02-09 - Rating: 5)

Our favorite Greek salad. Super fresh. Quality ingredients. Just the right flavors.Other favorites were: Swiss chard, the raclette-like cheese dish, spinach triangles

  • Review 25 (2023-12-20 - Rating: 5)

Very nice food. Real Greek. Simply, the best Greek food in Manhattan, in an adorable corner bistro in the west Village. And everything is deliciously fresh and reasonable given the quality and the space ..they serve dinner lunch or breakfast too... the service is charming, welcoming , from people who aim to make you happy. worth it! High recommend!

  • Review 26 (2019-08-30 - Rating: 5)

We tried Snack Taverna for lunch and enjoyed our visit. There were very few guests dining at the time we visited so we got right in. We started with the hummus which was good. The pita bread is great! I had the shrimp soulvaki which I really liked. I only wish it came with a few extra shrimp. My husband had the Chopped Salad with Chicken and he thought it was great. I tried the diet cola which I wasn’t a fan of as it tasted super sweet. However, it was from a local company so I think it’s great that they support the local community. The server was great which I feel is difficult to come by in NYC. He was attentive and checked on us after our food came out. We would return.

  • Review 27 (2024-12-20 - Rating: 5)

Real authentic Greek cuisine. It truly is a hidden gem.

  • Review 28 (2020-02-23 - Rating: 4)

Low key, very cozy Greek restaurant. Great service. Lots of people, but never felt too noisy or crowded. Octopus was fabulous, as was the pork two ways. Calamari was disappointing, stay away. Limited wine option price wise. Keen to go back to check out brunch menu.

  • Review 29 (2020-07-24 - Rating: 5)

This Greek restaurant has awesome food with great service. The drinks was on point and food was amazing. Got to get baklava when you come.

  • Review 30 (2023-04-01 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 34 (2023-11-13 - Rating: 5)

Hidden gem. Great neighborhood vibe and fantastic food. Tried the dips, spanakopita, lamb triangles, stuffed pepper, lamb shank, chicken, branzino, and all (!) the desserts.

  • Review 35 (2018-10-27 - Rating: 5)

Nice cozy Greek restaurant. Short but interesting menu. Interesting Greek beers by the bottle. Wine by the glass comes in a tumbler, which may be cute for table wine but sort of takes away from the enjoyment of the possibly finer wines on offer. Good portion sizes

  • Review 36 (2023-11-18 - Rating: 5)

Came on a whim for brunch and this place was absolutely delicious! Was blown away but the food. Especially the pork soulvlaki.

Fresh ingredients in a trendy location

  • Review 38 (2018-09-04 - Rating: 5)

This was some of the best Greek food we have had. Highly recommend the lamb wrapped in phyllo and the tzatziki. An absolute gem in our time in New York! And...side note...their bathrooms are hilariously tiny

  • Review 39 (2016-04-26 - Rating: 5)

Awesome spot serving dishes that taste as if they were made in Greece - the Greek Salad is fresh and delicious. It’s probably a good idea to make reservations because it’s generally very busy.

  • Review 42 (2019-08-23 - Rating: 5)

If you’re looking for a charming dinner spot that’s still casual and down-to-earth, definitely stop by!

Such a lovely lovely restaurant. Their food has been my comfort food in the pandemic, especially the spanakopita. The owner is so kind to speak with. I hope so very very much that I’ll be able to eat inside the restaurant again once the pandemic is over. It looks so beautiful inside. But as of now, their outdoor seating is also great, with nice heat lamps on a quiet west village street.

  • Review 93 (2022-02-10 - Rating: 5)

I have walked past this place for years and Regret not coming in sooner. All of our dishes were great and I really enjoyed the Greek wine. To start we took the eggplant dip, tzatziki and muhamarra, which were all tasty and fresh. The lamb shank was also great and different then what you would get in other places. The staff was also very friendly and gave a real neighborhood feel to it. I’ll definitely be back.

I used to regularly have brunch at their sister restaurant EOS snack. I was very sad when it closed. I was happy to find snack taverna. They have similar menus and delicious food! (Same fluffy pancake!) The oatmeal cappuccino was so bizarrely fantastic especially for anyone who loves steamed milk. I docked a star because service was slow so take note

  • Review 99 (2016-10-14 - Rating: 4)

  • Review 101 (2019-02-01 - Rating: 5)

Not sure how there can be any negative reviews. I’m so happy I found this place in the neighborhood! The food here is incredible. Snack taverna has their own spin on Greek and it’s the best Greek I’ve ever had. I always get the Greek salad with chicken and mahamera with extra pita as well as the chicken soup (forget the Greek name for it). Solid staple to my restaurant rotation and the places I frequent. Must try if you’ve never checked this place Out!

  • Review 110 (2016-01-30 - Rating: 4)

Lovely place; theres room for about 30 people so it feels cosy but not too cramped.Menu is limited but tasty. We tried the sampler of sauces served with pita bread and one of the shrimp dishes cooked in tomato sauce. They were both delicious! We were given more pita on request.Less attentive service in the beginning than i would have liked, but once we ordered the waiters kept coming around periodically to check on us.Dont miss the almond candies on your way out. They are in a ceramic bowl at the bar on the side next to the door.

The waiter was cool. the ambience and candlelight and being somewhere where you can hear your table is great. The food is good (not the best Greek in NYC) but it is good. we were all very happy with what we tried-- which was the Branzino, Spinach Triangles, Butter Beans, Tzaiziki spread, and Dolmah

The cutest family owned Greek spot in the West Village on a charming block. It has been a go to for years and can seat us even on busy Friday and Saturday nights.

Such an amazing little restaurant. SO much charm, great food, excellent and personal service AND easy to walk in and grab a table. I will always look forward to my next time at Snack Taverna.

Picturesque place, typical American cafe. A simple menu with not many dishes, but everything looked good. The easy to ride eggs were really good. The tortilla is less recommended.
