We came back here for summer restaurant week. Everyone in our party ordered the Arctic char, roasted chicken with leeks and hazelnut, and peach Melba profiterole. We added a order of PEI oysters. The arctic char was light and delicious, with well balanced flavors of sweetness of the fish and plum and sourness of the vinaigrette dressing. The oysters were very fresh and tasty with flavor of kumquat. The roasted chicken was rich and flavorful with moist chicken and crispy skin. The leeks added a touch of sweetness and the hazelnut made the dish more aromatic. I liked my dessert not too sweet so I poured only a touch of the rum caramel sauce by myself. Although I enjoyed the peach profiterole but the peach was overpowered by the raspberry sorbet in the center. It should be called raspberry profiterole. The service was efficient and the ambience was modern minimalistic. We enjoyed our food every time we came, would definitely return for more. -

I decided to try the The Bar Room at the Modern since it was Restaurant Week. The place was buzzing for a Friday during the summer. I was greeted warmly by the front desk, my waiter was great and very attentive. He helped me select the perfect wine for my lunch. I had the white gazpacho, toasted almonds and trout roe, the artichoke and lobster ravioli with marinated peppers, and dessert was a hard choice, but I decided to try the malted chocolate mousse with fried potatoes. Each course was plated so nicely and everything was delicious. The white gazpacho was perfect for a hot summer day. My first bit of the mousse, I took a little of everything, which was the best way to enjoy it. The sweetness and crispy potatoes were a perfect match. My compliments to the pastry chef. I went to the Museum after lunch to enjoy some art. I would highly recommend The Bar Room. I will definitely be back. -

2 Michelin star meal for $100 including tip in NYC (no drinks). Some of the best service I have seen in my life. Modern restaurant attached to MoMa, brilliant menu, fantastic ambience. I am still gushing!!The chilled tuna, spicy lamb, and grilled octopus dishes were soaking with interesting flavours and seriously some of the most delightful things I’ve eaten. Grilled octopus with ricotta dumplings in a duck broth were in particular unique and well-executed.We had the Tarte Flambee which was nice - just less impressive than the rest. Frankly I would trade it for the fries or fried chicken bar snack / appetizer (they looked so. Good.)For desert peanut toffee pudding w banana miso ice cream was so well done. All the dessert looks / sounds amazing, you can’t go wrong. Great twists on things, well balanced, unique and impressive.Beyond 5/5 great food dishes, the servers were exceptional. The waiter was kind and directive without being pushy. He really helped with selection! The tables were cleared with perfection - not too rushed - but not leaving dirty plates for so long. Each dish was presented by the person placing it on the table. Water refill was done automatically. It really felt like our dinner was being handled so masterfully in the background, never had to lift a finger. There’s a great vibe to this spot. Something about serving fried chicken & fries at a two-star Michelin restaurant - it feels very warm, people-oriented and just not snobby. The drinks menu is inspired by a current exhibit. Really neat idea that weaves the concept well. The food they produce feels like modern art.The complementary bread and butter were worth writing home about. It was seriously a culinary highlight. Served perfectly warmed and toasted, it was an excellent way to begin the night. I would come back just for the bread.Lighting is really nice - it feels like the room itself is a piece of art and you are dining within it. The volume is “perfect” for conversations.I just love this place. Will be back. They have good bar snacks, great cocktails, fabulous wine selection (including dessert wines), amazing entrees, and the most seamless service. Have not been this blown away in a long time. -

The summer 2024 restaurant week menu had decent selection to choose from. The food itself was delicious.-The steak tartare had a big helping of a creamy guacamole and came with the fluffiest thick slices of roasted potato with a crispy skin.-The cured artic char was rich and balanced well with the slices of fruit.-The roast chicken breast was some of the juiciest and flavorful meat I have had with a creamy cheese and mushroom sauce to match. The crispy skin was even embedded with herbs for a nice appearance.-The salmon was fatty but a bit well done to our liking. Otherwise it was still a generous portion.-The chocolate mousse was very nice and complimented with the ice cream. It also came with crunchy potato straw that tasted like potato chips.-The puff had a flavorful, sweet and tart berry center and a strong rum caramel drizzle. The staff were professional and the waiters and waitresses were frequently attending to the patrons. The atmosphere was very vibrant and enjoyable and the wall of wines was a cool sight. -

Amazing restaurant. From the walk-in , we were pleasantly surprised by how beautiful the restaurant decor was. The cocktails were out of this world good. The food by far was the star of the show. The dishes kept getting better and better. I will definitely be back, and its a must when in NYC. -

Its one of my favorite nice lunch places in the city. The food is excellent, and the service is amazing. The Bar room is the casual part of The Modern but same high quality of food. Definitely recommend trying -

Surprisingly, the restaurant week menu is better than what I visited five years ago. The salmon with apricot is the best. The table is quite small though. -

Gazpacho was also good.2nd: lobster ravioli was amazing!! sea bass was good, little salty but full of flavor!3rd: peach melba profiterole with rum caramel was good.lemon pain perdu, wild blueberries and granola was the best!Recommend! it’s worth 2 michelin star ! -

What a fantastic place to end Your MoMa tour. There is a secret passage directly from the museum to the restaurant so You dont have to go out for the street to enter. We were there for NY restaurant week. Lunch paired with unique drinks and the experience was amazing as well our waiter! -

Ive been wanting to go to the Modern for years and tonight I took my wife there for her birthday. The staff was so friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The food was an absolute revelation. You know theres attention to detail when even the bread and butter are worth talking about. The drinks were delicious and when the hostess overheard me say to my wife I wish I could see their kitchen she had one of the managers take us on a quick tour. Cant wait to go back! -
Review 11 (2024-03-03 - Rating: 4)
It’s a very modern atmosphere, but the placement of the tables was quite strange and slanted facing the bar and exit. We tried the steak tartare, cauliflower, lobster pasta, truffle ravioli, rhubarb dessert. The cauliflower stood out. The steak tartare was decent, but the other dishes kind of fell flat. Not sure I would come back at this price point. I had the apple and stone fruit drinks. Those were decent, but nothing that would be so memorable. -
Review 12 (2023-08-26 - Rating: 5)
My friend and I were lucky to ride the last wave of restaurant week. Both of us ordered the three-course set. The restaurant week menu comes with complimentary bread, which was so fluffy and combined well with the sauce. Theres also an extra add-on fried chicken by ordering any sparkling wine. The wine was very smooth. The fried chicken was mediocre though. For the first dish, I ordered steak tartare. The most amazing part was the fried potatoes that came along. It was so crispy and seasoned so well that it was a wonderful experience to consume the potatoes and the steak tartare at the same time. For the second dish I ordered pork belly with eggplants. The pork was fried well and had a taste similar to Cantonese BBQ. For dessert I ordered pavlova. The pavlova tasted like cotton candies and the berries introduced another layer of flavor. For the restaurant week menu, Id say this was way better than expected. I would definitely go again and try out their prix fix menu next time. -

We had the caviar hot dogs, the steak tartare, and the dessert which was pudding with rum and raisins ice cream. Each dish was so tasty. The dessert, hands down, one of the best I have ever had in my life! OMG everything was too good. Staff super friendly too! Can’t wait to go back -
Review 14 (2023-09-05 - Rating: 5)
The restaurant week was a couple of great weeks to grab a bite at these places.Got the table for lunch and tried different items. The chilled melon gazpacho with crab and sesame tasted like cool summer with a Thai flair.Steak tartare with crispy potatoes is creamy with a bit of citrusy and sweet note.Lobster with coco beans and pickled garlic in a broth like dish. My friend really liked it.I had the crispy salmon, charred cucumbers and crunchy lentils. The salmon skin is crsipy and the fish is not over cooked and tasted super tender.I also really like the bread and the dip, however these came so late into the game (30 mins after we were told the bread was coming) that we were not very happy. My friend had sweet corn financier, cherries and almonds, and I had frozen espresso with vanilla and cocoa nibs. I like the foam and the granola like texture of the nibs.Yeah, the bread and the dip really were a winner. And their water glassware is beautiful. -

Absolutely great great great place! Food was amazing and service was top notch. We came for restaurant week and as expected booked the table weeks ahead lol. Totally worth the efforts. The restaurant week menu is for lunch only, 45 for two courses and extra for dessert. For lots of the main course choices it would’ve cost 40 if order à la carte so definitely a great deal. You can taste the ingredients are very fresh and good quality. The seasoning was perfect to elaborate the ingredients tastes but not overwhelming. The presentation was beautiful. And even the brioche before meal was sooooo delicious that I had to shamelessly asked for another one lol. Thank you so much for the great experience! Cannot wait to come back for more!! -
Review 17 (2023-07-27 - Rating: 4)
Me and my sister had both the three course menu for $60 (discounted price). While the food was very good overall, it didnt live up to the standard expected from a 2 Michelin star restaurant. The dishes tasted premium and well-made, not sophisticated, if that makes sense. The tarte flambee was fantastic and steak tartare with fries was very good. The salmon was quite good and my sibling loved the zucchini ravioli with zucchini pesto. The desserts were subpar. The frozen espresso was too strong and the pavlova lacked creaminess. The service was punctual and polite, but not extraordinary. A waiter wrongfully delivered a martini to my table and our table on the terrace wasnt readily available, so we chose to dine at the bar room instead. The atmosphere of the bar room is casual and modern, therefore its aligned with what its intended from it, but the space was a bit underwhelming. There are no views to MoMAs garden, for instance and no artworks whatsoever.Overall, it was worth the experience, but Im not sure if Id come back. Perhaps a three course menu at Aquavit for $85 would be a better alternative.Check: 2*3 course menu ($120) + taxes + 20% in tips (you dont write it down on the check and leave the restaurant, you actually choose an option on the credit card terminal). Total of $154 for 2. -

A wonderful memorable lunch experience. Started with a tasty apple cocktail, bread, steak tartare delish, crispy potato not oily. Really piled on shaved truffles over pasta. Steak medallions tender and juicy.Only hiccup came at end of meal. In a zealous search for an appripriate tote for the doggie bag, it took ~10 min. wait at reception after end of meal to get it in a MOMA tote. -

I always make sure this is on my list of dining when I visit New York. Their drinks, food, service, and ambiance are spot on and consistent. They have Billecart Salmon by the glass (my ♥️). Tyler provided me excellent service at the bar. The new fall bread service and pasta dish are fantastic. All around a lovely evening! -
Review 20 (2023-07-31 - Rating: 5)
I highly recommend sitting at the terrace on a nice day. The food itself is delicious, though some might find components of the dishes to be overseasoned, I found that taken as a whole everything was well balanced. Although dishes can be fairly complex, that fact is masked by the apparent simplicity and presentation of the dishes. -

A minimalistic setting with superb quality dining offering American classics with a twist. Enjoy Pork Tenderloin, Fried Chicken or Roasted Chicken. Don’t forget desserts, the Chocolate Mousse and the Caramel Toffee were excellent. Impeccable service. Highly recommended! -

A simply delightful Restaurant Week (RW) experience!Extra points for restaurants that showcase their regular lunch menu items on the RW menu!Making reservations was super easy on Resy. When my boss decided to call me 30 mins before my lunch reservation on a Friday, I called the restaurant with my updated arrival time, and they were very appreciative. After being promptly seated, two very friendly servers came over to offer us complimentary sparkling/still water. We decided to order a cocktail with our meal. I mean...why not? TGIF!!I got the Ginger, and it was delicious (be aware that the ginger taste was prominent). My bf got the Coffee, and it tasted like a spiked cold brew.We started with steak tartare and the gem salad. As much as I did enjoy the steak tartare (with crunchy potatoes), it was good but nothing special. But the gem salad was a real treat. The dressing was very tasty, and the entire dish was super refreshing. I never knew lettuce could taste this good. For the main, we got the sea bass and duck. Wow!! While both dishes were great, Id pick the duck over the fish if you must choose one. The duck had the right amount of fat, and it balanced so well with the radicchio. The fish dish came with some broth, so if you are looking for a comfort dish, that would be the one.Needless to say, after all that plus the bread, there was no room for any desserts. The service overall was attentive and not overwhelming. Our water glasses were constantly filled, and the food came out at the right tempo.Book this place before RW ends!! -
Review 25 (2024-08-27 - Rating: 5)
We visited during Restaurant Week, and it’s easily the best choice in town. Every dish was meticulously crafted, from presentation to flavor, perfectly balancing spicy, sour, and salty notes. The chicken breast was exceptionally tender, and the king crab noodles were spicy yet refreshingly light. While the salmon was good, it didn’t stand out as much as the other dishes. -
Review 26 (2024-08-15 - Rating: 5)
After reading so many rave reviews about the Bar Room on Reddit during Restaurant Week, we knew we had to give it a try. Nearly every dish we ordered was nothing short of spectacular! The food is both innovative and delicious, with complex flavors where each layer still shines through clearly. The textures are thoughtfully combined, creating a harmonious and memorable dining experience. We’ll be returning for more. -
Review 27 (2024-08-06 - Rating: 5)
Food is 10 out 10. Service can be slower but it is the right pace for a high end establishment. Lots of tourists but Great place to take out of towner family members (parents, uncles, etc) that are foodies. Pro tip: sit at the bar and ask for a drizzle of Eileen’s special rum that she makes that tastes like a fancy maple syrup (I forgot what she calls it but Eileen is the bar manager). -

Impeccable service-atmosphere. The Pride cocktail special was exceptional. Cucumber and pea salad, Hamachi with miso and bussels sprouts, smoked potato ravioli with ramps and maitake, crispy salmon with warm potato salad-- Milk bread with homemade butter topped with fleur de sel.Need I say more? -

Stopped by The Bar Room for a quick lunch while spending a solo day at the MOMA. I was able to enter from the museum which was a nice touch and took a seat at the bar. Service was quick and efficient. For lunch I had the squash with chickpeas with was a nice light bite before continuing my day at the museum. The dining room was pretty empty when I arrived around noon but was hopping by the time I headed out around one. Great option if you are in the area. -
Review 33 (2024-12-06 - Rating: 4)
Stopped by for some much needed refreshments after accompanying my friend to her wedding dress fitting. As expected, everything was as fancy and sophisticated as the museum itself.I had a late lunch to attend so only nibbled on the fries and some of the salmon, but both were very well done. For drinky drinks, the Spiced Coconut is a heavy dose of sweetness to brighten your dreary winter morning, while the alcohol-free Ko-Pilot and Passion Fruit will give you much needed vitamin C (coincidentally, also brightening). They make a mean Daiquiri here, of all things, too. Will be back for proper dinner. One day. -
Review 34 (2024-08-10 - Rating: 5)
Absolutely worth it during Restaurant Week: 2 courses for $45 or 3 courses for $60.This is definitely one of the better dining spots in a neighborhood that’s not particularly known for it.Highlights included the steak tartare and charcoal-grilled goldbar squash. The beans on the sea bass were more impressive than the fish itself. The heirloom tomato sourdough toast was larger than expected (no complaints about that) and decent, but not quite what I’d consider a plate for dinner. Would be better enjoyed at lunch. Our favorite plate of the night was probably the complimentary focaccia with whipped ricotta. So nice, we ordered it twice.Service sets a high standard for themselves and upholds it. When our table wasn’t ready at our reservation time, staff was extremely apologetic and went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable until it was.Ambiance can be hit or miss. I’ve come when the bar feels sleek and set up for date night. I’ve also come on nights when the vibe is more family-friendly and the atmosphere feels casual, if not lacking.Outside of when The Modern has Restaurant Week specials, I’d come for a drink and light bite before or after dinner as the cocktail program is solid (the stone fruits is easy drinking) but eat a meal elsewhere. -
Review 35 (2024-08-13 - Rating: 5)
Overall Nice vibe, nice people, good food. Like the appetizers here. Really surprised me for a sec. Main dishes are just above average but worth the price for sure. -
Review 36 (2022-02-07 - Rating: 5)
A very elegant civilized place for a drink and dinner after a visit to MoMA, after film screenings, or just shopping. The service is attentive and knowledgeable, especially about the wines. Some dishes are more shareable than others. Recently had a fun “bucket” of honey fried chicken (boneless) and fries. Always make room for dessert! -

Lovely lunch after the visit. Place is really busy and had my lunch at he bar which was very nice. Professional and friendly staff. Food was very tasty! (Tartare as starter & cod for main) and very good portions. All in all, very good value for money and definitely worth if you are nearby or visiting the museum. -
Review 41 (2023-11-15 - Rating: 5)
Lunch at The Bar Room was a wonderful way to complement a visit to MoMA. The complimentary milk bread was yummy and the crispy skinned salmon with pistachios was delicious. (The plating was a little odd so included a second photo showing that the salmon was a decent size.) Service was excellent as well. Will definitely return! -
Review 42 (2023-10-21 - Rating: 5)
Champagne and Fried Chicken concept was awesome and super fun for a fine dining restaurant. Bread was incredible. Lobster and crab entrees were pretty good, but the chicken and bread were absolute hitters. -
Review 43 (2023-08-12 - Rating: 5)
Came here during summer restaurant week and managed to grab a table on the terrace. The prix fixe at 45/60usd for 2 or 3 courses was insanely good value considering everything. You can tell that the kitchen has 2 Michelin stars for the kann dining room. The service was also on point with excellent recommendations and a nice personal touch. But the location really makes it stand out. The terrace overlooks the Momas courtyard, almost like a green oasis in midtown Manhattan. Probably my favourite spot in the area for a good value meal. Though you do make up for in drinks if you’re not careful. -

Great deal for restaurant week! My favorite dishes were the apricot pork, the sunchoke soup, and the winter citrus dessert. Everyone at my table loved the desserts so highly recommend the $60 menu. Good mocktail options too for those of us doing dry January. Only downside is the room is packed with tables and get a bit loud. -
Review 49 (2023-01-22 - Rating: 5)
Incredible food, service was equally excellent. Each dish was as beautiful to look at as it was delicious. Acoustics were noticably incredible, even when fully packed its easy to have a quiet conversation at your own table. -

It’s really hard to grab a reservation for restaurant week lunch but it’s totally worth it! We had hamachi and steak tartar for appetizers. They were so fresh and tasty!!! I never had raw meat before so I didn’t know what to expect. It ended up being my second favorite dish! I recommend trying the bottom of the tartar first. The part without sauce has its own unique flavor. The main dishes we had were the raviolis and foie gras stuffed chicken. I didn’t have much high expectations for the raviolis at all. To my surprise, the smoky flavor was very interesting and the crispy mushrooms added another layer of texture and taste. On the other hand, the chicken dish was underwhelming as I didn’t taste foie gras at all : ( there was something between the chicken skin and meat that resembled and tasted just like soggy bread crumbs.. Overall it was still a very pleasant meal. Everyone was nice. The servers were attentive even though the place was packed. -
Review 51 (2022-06-16 - Rating: 4)
My third time at the Bar room. Wines are excellent, the glass is well filled (for 16$) - the food is pretty good too, but you have to ask why a salad costs 22$ - basically leaves with dressing. The tartare is covered in a green sauce (like Frankfurt green sauce but more creamy) - I would have preferred it to be on the side to understand how the tartare itself tastes-. Excellent desert. Service is friendly and attentive. The Bar room is a very good hang out place if you are not too hungry and want to be in a hip ambience. -

The Bar Room, at the Modern (2 Michelin stars), offers a pretty good deal for restaurant week lunch menu. Overall, the food is pretty good. The ravioli is interesting. The mushroom is torched, I believe, making it a little crispy and smoky. The chicken has a hint of truffle, but I dont really taste any foie gras. The salad is a little too sour for my taste but it is still yummy. Tarte flambee is really delicious! The dessert is probably my least favorite - a little tangy, and I just dont really like the taste in general. Id definitely come back for a restaurant week deal like this ($45/person).Currently, there is no reservation available for lunch, but they do take walk in! We came right when they opened and we got seated immediately. -

Definitely worth it! I had oyster for the first course, duck for the entree, and chestnut dessert. Oyster and duck are delicious!!! The dessert looks beautiful but the taste is not so good, still worth trying! My first idea after finishing the lunch is to bring my family back here again! Nice service and cozy environment. Highly recommend! -

We had lunch in the bar/lounge and it was a great experience. First the staff is so well trained and attentive. They are as good as it gets. We loved watching the open kitchen. So much attention on every detail for the plating. We shared the scallops that were cooked perfectly and served in an amazing sauce. Also shared the Black Truffle Cavatelli that was out of this world. Also enjoyed the Rose champagne recommended by the friendly and helpful som. One of the nicest lunches we have ever had and cant believe it is located in the heart of a museum--even better! -

Everything about this place was immaculate. From the decor, atmosphere, waiter, service and food. Wine pairing is a recommended. Food was delicious and the wine that came with each was a perfect match. The waiter knew details of each wine we tasted so we had an idea of where they came from. Service was extremely good. Had no complaints. Menu can seem pricey but its something you wont regret spending your money on. Great place to take someone on a date if youre looking to impress. -

Food was good very small portions and very high price. Its a look at me kind of place. Small Cheese board, Steak Tartare was mid size at best was good. The lamb was again a very small portion more of a tapas type dish than a entree. 1 beer 1 coffee came to $115.00 -

What an exceptional and inspired dining experience! The food is a delight for sophisticated palates with flavors that are innovative yet comforting and familiar at the same time. Review 68 (2022-07-20 - Rating: 5)
What a lovely experience. Everything about this was great. For starters we had the gem lettuce, avocado and smoked sturgeon and the steak tartare with crispy potatoes. The salad was so refreshing, perfect for a hot summer day! The steak was not traditional because it was coated with a delicious green sauce, but equally refreshing and delicious as a steak tartare should be. The potatoes are first boiled and then deep fried so you get a tender yet crispy bed to place the tartare over. Oh and they also bring table bread with butter which is fluffy and perfect for scooping out the juicy sauces that the dishes leave behind. For entrees we had the chicken and salmon. They’re on the smaller size, but it was a good portion considering you are at a fine dining restaurant. Both tender and perfectly cooked. The maitre’d, host, waiters and runners are all so respectful and make you feel like royalty. What caught us by surprise the most was that when caught peaking into the kitchen (drawn by those gorgeous white marble tops), we were actually invited to step into the kitchen for a tour. We got to see the kitchen in action and got a sneak peak of the preparation of some dishes. That’s a first!Definitely recommended. If not for their full menu, search for restaurant week and make a reservation with at least 2 weeks in advance. -

As always with a Danny Meyer restaurant, the food is great but the service is even better. Our server, Casey, was happy, helpful and charming and so was everyone else we encountered. Cannot wait to go back. Thanks!! -

I have dined at the Modern a handful of times and always enjoy myself. Recently, we really had one of the best dining experiences in NYC. The food is artful, the service is stellar, the beverage program can go head to head with anywhere…. The maître d’ charmed us from the get go… Can’t give enough kudos to the sommelier, Ryan, and our servers, Keir and KC — these three turned an already wonderful meal into an outstanding and memorable experience all around…. Thank you, Modern!!! -

Once my reservation to here was confirmed, I was very excited, as I thought that I would not be able to get a reservation.Bread: fluffy yet dense. A soft bread that had layers. Pretty tasty with the butter. Probably the best table bread I have had.Steak tartar with crispy potatoes: steak was diced, a bit chewy. Really came together with the bits of onions and acidic sauce. Had to have everything together to get full effect of textures and tastes. Crispy potatoes had the texture of a nice, soft baked potato on the inside.Roasted chicken with cauliflower and foie gras:The first bite of of the chicken was warm and familiar. I realized it was quite similar to rotisserie chicken, but it was not overly salty like rotisserie chicken can be. The skin was crispy. It was a bit hard to cut into the chicken at times, but it pulled apart smoothly. The sauce was bright, caramelly, and notes of flavors that I really could not describe by taste. The only thing I imagined was that the flavors were similar to spring time flowers that bloom quickly and disappear just as quick. The foie gras had a unique flavor, and a stronger aftertaste. Hard for me to describe. The clauiflower was tender, but still had a snap. All in all, I enjoyed my lunch and I am glad that I came here during the NYC Restaurant week. At the end, I was surprised at how full I was.Would I come again? I would, but to try the other dishes. While it was not mind blowing, I did enjoy my meal and the service, and would definitely recommend it to anyone curious about the experience. I would rate this at four stars, but as this was a part of NYC Restaurant week, I rated this at five stars instead. -

Ive made several visits to The Bar Room over the past couple of years and Ive never been disappointed. The classics (Tarte Flambe, Charred Avocado, Steak Tartare, Carrot Rillettes) are obviously great choices and worth having if you only get to make one visit. But on my latest visit I was astounded by just how great everything was. If I have a meal where one of the dishes is a Religious Experience, I consider myself lucky. But when I have a meal where dish after dish after dish is an R.E. (Yes, the Bar Room delivered on that)? I must have died and gone to heaven.Appetizers: The Shaved Fennel Salad (smoked salmon and grapefruit) was dressed perfectly and demonstrated solid taste and texture complexity in every bite. This is not just some fennel, salmon, and grapefruit thrown in a bowl and tossed with some dressing. It is ultra refinement of exactly the right pieces, sizes and quantity of fennel, with exactly the right pieces, sizes and quantity of smoked salmon (with equally top drawer execution of the smoking), with exactly the right pieces, sizes and quantity of grapefruit... dressed perfectly. Thats a lot to say about one little salad, right? Yeah, but it was one heck of a salad. An R.E. White Asparagus Soup: ultra refined tastes and textures. Yes, Im saying that about a mere soup. Morel Mushroom Fricassee: each bite was different: Sometimes subtle sweetness from the corn and sometimes interesting acidity from the pickled shallots, but always beautiful textures on the palate.Caviar Soldier: maximum indulgence. But every appetizer always has ultra refined tastes and textures (are you sensing a common theme here?).Entrees: Ill skip the entrees because they were all great. Thats not to undermine them either. They are all worth having.Desserts: the menu seems to change fairly frequently with no one recurring signature dish. But trust me that this is a good thing, not a bad thing, and I dont mean that in a negative way either. Every dessert Ive ever had at the Bar Room, bar none (pardon the pun), has been excellent. So why is it a good thing that they change the dessert menu relatively frequently? Its simple: Its practically a sport to see what incredible creations the evil geniuses will come up with next. Most recently, the Rice Pudding (rhubarb and jasmine ice cream) was mind blowing with ultra refined tastes and textures (I know, I know, I sound like a broken record). I recall a Sweet Potato Parfait some months ago, which on the surface sounded mundane, but was a religious experience. These are not sloppy, in-your-face sweet, throw it down on the plate, desserts cooked up by some pastry chef who is not the equal of the Executive Chef. These are ultra refined, complex tastes and textures that are the equal of every dish youve had leading up to the finale.Service: excellent of course. You wouldnt expect anything but warm, attentive, down-to-earth, sincerely friendly, and knowledgable from a place of this caliber. The wait staff, Somms, bus-people, runners were all consummate professionals.Tipping: I have to say that although it has taken some getting used to on my part, and although I know the front of the house doesnt like it, Danny Meyers Hospitality Included, No Tipping policy at all of his properties is a big bonus for the customer. In a traditional tipping environment, its always awkward to know how much tip to leave on the wine portion of the bill vs the food. And should one include the all-too-many state and local extras (e.g. SFs living wage tax) in the calculation? Its much easier if the restaurant just tells me how much to pay, end of story. The staff clearly understands the idiom of the customer is always right and never bats an eyelash when I make seemingly goofy requests. The scene in the Bar Room is casual and quite diverse ranging from the midtown locals who come in for a high end whisky with friends after work; to the tourists who bring their 2 year old and stroller just to get a rare whack at some New York City Michelin-starred food; to the jokers like me. -

Really nice restaurant connected to the MoMa museum of art. We came for the lunch restaurant week menu and enjoyed the experience. The Bar Room is more casual than the actual restaurant and allows for a la carte options. Dining room is pre fixe only. -

I visited The Bar Room for restaurant week with two of my friends & it was definitely a very pleasant experience. From the host to the waitress, it was very warm and welcoming. The food was absolutely amazing, I had the steak tartare with the crispy potatoes, I totally recommend. The desert was decent, I feel like there couldve been a little more variety. Overall though, a must go to if youre ever in the city!I also would like to highlight James, although he was not our waiter, he ended up closing our bill. He took his time to show us around the kitchen, gave us some background on both sides of the restaurant, and overall, made the experience a whole lot better. It was already closing time and we were probably the last ones out of there & James never once rushed us or seemed bothered by our curiosity. THANK YOU so much James, we really appreciate you taking time out to show us around and for being so hospitable! -

Great looking venue with beautiful lighting, flowers, and bar. The food was outstanding, but their portion size was rather small. $40 lamb entree had one thin slice of lamb- amazing taste, but not enough food. Wine was well paired but my glass was barely 1/4 full. Sea bass was awesome, as was their millefeuille chocolate dessert. -
