Definitely a unique vibe. Great bartenders and selection of drinks. A little creepy with the decor but a fun change from other trendy bars.

  • Review 2 (2023-04-10 - Rating: 5)

I love this bar. I dont go to the Lower East Side as much as I used to but this is probably my favorite spot in that area. A great jukebox provides the perfect soundtrack for this throwback bar. Tables are located in the rear portion of the pub, where books line the shelves and movies play on the back wall. The bartenders keep the patrons in check and the vibe moving. I honestly cannot say enough good things about the bartenders. The clientele is varied and if you come with the right energy, you can definitely meet new people and have memorable conversations. Just a gem of a place that I hope never changes.

  • Review 3 (2024-08-17 - Rating: 5)

Great dive bar. Cool atmosphere. Good drinks.

  • Review 4 (2024-07-18 - Rating: 5)

Great atmosphere, super cool stuff and just LOOK at the color of this amazing beer! 🍺

  • Review 5 (2018-01-16 - Rating: 5)

Great Bar and staff! Ambiance was what we were looking for. No food but they dont mind you bringing take out once you ask. Happy Hour 5 to 8PM. 2 for 1 any drinks! Great deal! We love the music and the movie playing (Fright Nights) in the background on a projector.

  • Review 6 (2024-04-21 - Rating: 5)

The library is a great place to go for an afternoon drink. They have a really friendly service and a wonderful atmosphere.

  • Review 7 (2019-03-05 - Rating: 4)

Its a quiet place. I would go back with a group. It has kind of a punk rock theme if youre into that. The service is great. Friendly staff. Theres a movie playing which must be normally playing throughout the day.

  • Review 8 (2024-11-02 - Rating: 5)

Love this dive, the best staff and people! Always something interesting showing in the back.

  • Review 9 (2024-11-02 - Rating: 5)

Great place with reasonably priced drinks. Highly recommend

  • Review 10 (2017-06-08 - Rating: 5)

This bar is awesome! It is unique. From the skulls and Ozzy Osbourne music to the large screen playing Psycho. A good place to take a walk on the wild side and have a few drinks.

  • Review 11 (2024-03-16 - Rating: 5)

A real dive bar, not a wanna-be dive bar! We went to The Library on a recent Friday night and it reminded me of the way most of the bars in the East Village used to be many years ago. If you like 80s and 90s alternative and punk music, you will never find a better juke box. Dont change anything, please!

  • Review 12 (2024-12-14 - Rating: 4)

Cool place to grab drinks and hear some sweet tunes.

  • Review 13 (2024-11-17 - Rating: 4)

Nice vibes, but too loud. Had to scream to talk to each other

  • Review 14 (2024-03-08 - Rating: 5)

Someone brought me here once and let me walk around on the full length of the bar, I truly had the best time of my life. I was stepping on clean coasters, tasting peoples drinks, the bartender gave me plenty of pets. I heard they write their own tips if you pay by card but I’m a dog, I don’t have money

  • Review 15 (2023-02-19 - Rating: 4)

Loud, cheap drinks, dark, and trashy. The perfect dive.

  • Review 16 (2023-07-08 - Rating: 5)

A true dive bar with a lot more room for chatting than you’d expect

  • Review 17 (2024-02-19 - Rating: 5)

Very good beer! We will come back!

  • Review 18 (2024-11-14 - Rating: 5)

    The bartender Amethyst was lovely

  • Review 19 (2024-10-26 - Rating: 5)

Great atmosphere and great drinks. Will be coming back to get hammered and read

  • Review 20 (2019-03-23 - Rating: 5)

Fun dive bar that is well stocked with various drinks. Great happy hour deals and lovely staff. Personal favorite was the music blaring overhead (at least when I got there) because there arent many places left that play heavy metal. Cant wait to go back!

  • Review 21 (2013-05-06 - Rating: 5)

The best of the LES dive bars, if you ask me. Excellent 2-1 drinks specials. Two of my very good friends met here and are now happily married. Love the always eclectic mix of patrons here. If you dont mind the dingy, ripped up booths and the grody bathrooms...this place is super fun.

  • Review 22 (2022-05-06 - Rating: 5)

I was planning on barhopping for the night with my wife but enjoyed the environment so much we just stayed. The bar was playing old school punk music which was refreshing and enhanced the vibe of the bar. The bartender was nice, the bar was busy so it did take a while to get their attention but I didnt mind. When you have a full bar and only one bartender youll just have to be patient.Their happy hour is fun. Instead of getting a discount on drinks you get a toy dinosaur with the purchase of a drink which you exchange for a free drink, kinda like a fun buy one, get one free style. The art on the walls are beautiful, it was fun looking around with my wife finding little pieces of art, funny stickers, and quotes around the bar.Definitely one of the best nights I had while visiting NY!

  • Review 23 (2015-11-07 - Rating: 5)

Never had a bad time in this spot. Been going here for years. Whenever I dont know where to go with friends when in the area I end up bringing them here. Staff are attentive and friendly. Atmosphere is interesting. Jukebox is on point with the music I like. All around great spot.

  • Review 24 (2016-04-30 - Rating: 5)

Dark, dirty, weird, all kinds of people, mostly 25-35yo patrons, bad ass female bartenders with tattoos, great beer selection and the music is one of the best things (mostly rock and punk). If you are a hipster please do not come to my favorite bar in town. Thanks

  • Review 25 (2022-05-08 - Rating: 5)

Just a regular watering hole for bands waiting to or coming out of all the clubs and saloons around. has books you can read or watch the occasional eccentric movie playing in the janky screen at the back. love this place.

  • Review 26 (2017-07-15 - Rating: 4)

Was ok, went here with a group of friends. Very standard bar, you pretty much know what youll get, I saw that they were playing a movie or something in the back which I thought was pretty cool. Its a bit on the small side but thats fine with me. I see this as a cool place to begin a night. Would go back.

  • Review 27 (2023-01-16 - Rating: 5)

The best whiskey sour Ive ever had.

  • Review 28 (2014-06-11 - Rating: 5)

Friendly service and 2-for-1 drink specials 5-8pm happy hour.... for every drink. Every. Single. One.Does anything more need to be said?If so, read on, reader...Theres a projector screen and both seating in the back showing old corny movies (aka the best movie evarrrrr!). Nice music collection and functioning jukebox! Play on, (music) player!

  • Review 29 (2022-07-05 - Rating: 5)

Went looking for some books on Oceanography and ended up here, didnt find the books but I did find a good time. Shout out to the bartender who also suggested the basement of Wiggle Room.

  • Review 30 (2013-06-16 - Rating: 4)

Its a typical divey kind of bar. I usually end up there when other places are crowded. Its dark and has a nice atmosphere. Worth checking out. Nice bartenders.

  • Review 31 (2023-05-23 - Rating: 5)

Best happy hour deal in town! Its a dive bar, so expect what youd expect from a dive bar.

  • Review 32 (2023-06-28 - Rating: 5)

Great music and cold beers 👍

  • Review 33 (2023-10-10 - Rating: 5)

My favorite Dive bar in Lower East Side. Great energy. You only come here because of that.

  • Review 34 (2023-01-09 - Rating: 5)

Bartenders are great and very friendly. Great atmosphere and fun. Love coming here for drinks.

  • Review 35 (2022-03-16 - Rating: 5)

If a dive bar is what you want, youll get it here. Decent prices for Manhattan. Sometimes they play movies on the back wall.

  • Review 36 (2019-01-09 - Rating: 5)

Probably the most awesome bar in lower East side . Great prices , great beer , great ambience , great babes : what else do you want ? Happy hours all the way . A must visit for any new York trip .

  • Review 37 (2022-02-17 - Rating: 5)

This is my home away from home. The jukebox has the Murder City Devils 2nd & 3rd album, Quicksand, ODB, Thin Lizzy, Maiden & Priest, AC/DC & Eric B. & Rakim, Sonic Youth, Minor Threat, Misfits, etc.The Ladies are some of my favorite people. If Im having a bad trip, I drop by the ol Library and all my worries melt away. This is a slice of old E.Vil NY and the locals are all right. This place is magic & should be landmarked.Update: The Library is one of the few constants here in the East Village. May it never change, and remain my home away from home.

  • Review 38 (2023-08-12 - Rating: 5)

This place has very well priced drinks and an unique vibe. It goes for a horror aesthetic with dim, almost completely dark, lighting and a projector that plays old schlocky horror movies in the back.

  • Review 39 (2016-08-17 - Rating: 4)

The vibe is pretty divey- not what youd expect from a place called The Library. Drinks werent anything special but the atmosphere was definitely unique and fun. Take a chance

  • Review 40 (2018-12-18 - Rating: 5)

Hell Yea! Punk rock/alt bar! Would love this place if it was closer to my apartment. But of a dive! But I still loved the music and ambiance

  • Review 41 (2022-05-28 - Rating: 5)

Very possibly my favorite NY pub, friendly staff and drinkers, great drink selection and the best juke box selection I think Ive ever seen

  • Review 42 (2017-04-23 - Rating: 5)

I am visiting NYC and this was an awesome little bar. It had a spooky kind of vibe but was exactly what I was looking for. Drinks were cheap and they play crazy movies on the projector.

  • Review 43 (2017-03-19 - Rating: 4)

Chill dive bar that shows old movies and has pictures of edgar allen poe and emily dickinson.. like some kind of hipster bar. But its just a normal chill spot with good specials, esp after midnight. Not a first date spot.

  • Review 44 (2016-07-15 - Rating: 4)

Dive bar on the surface, but a pretty cool place to chill and have a beer, they play old classics on a projector in the back, plus, bartenders are very nice here

  • Review 45 (2015-11-06 - Rating: 5)

One of the last of its kind for the LES/East Village. Cheap jukebox, solid happy hour deal and Punjabi Deli is right around the corner. What more do you need?

  • Review 46 (2018-05-29 - Rating: 4)

This place has great beer and an amazing selection of German beers and they sell yummy fresh-baked pretzels. Tried Hefeweizen, a classic German wheat beer.

  • Review 47 (2024-05-16 - Rating: 5)

Michelle. Michelle. Michelle. Some bartenders act like they’re doing u a favor. Michelle is engaging n a true barkeep. We stayed as long as we did because of her. Well done.

  • Review 48 (2017-04-14 - Rating: 5)

Ive been going to this bar for years and its always been fun. Movies playing, great music in the jukebox and the employees are chill.

  • Review 49 (2019-12-20 - Rating: 5)

Great happy hour specials and classic dive bar feel. music is a bit too loud but highly recommend

  • Review 50 (2024-05-15 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 53 (2019-10-15 - Rating: 5)

Ive been going here for decades.. Two for one happy hours.. Movies on the screen.. Wobbly tables a dive thats not a dive.

  • Review 54 (2022-04-19 - Rating: 5)

Nice dive bar like few left in the gentrified Manhattan. Expect no etiquette, this is punk dive bar type, beer and vibe are cool, it’s a nice space.

  • Review 55 (2024-04-09 - Rating: 5)

I enjoyed the atmosphere of this place, the locals are very nice same thing goes for the bartender. Definitely coming back

  • Review 56 (2023-11-21 - Rating: 5)

Super neat alternative dive bar with perfect broody vibes

  • Review 57 (2024-01-09 - Rating: 5)

This is by far one of the best dives in NYC. Dog friendly, amazing staff, great prices on drinks, impeccable happy hour. Everyone is welcomed and treated as such. Btw… Gomez is our mascot and if you have a problem with a dog at a bar you’re a tool and we’d be happy if you didn’t come back and ruin the the vibe. ✌🏽

  • Review 58 (2013-11-18 - Rating: 4)

Pretty fun and casual bar. Good drink specials. Always a great time there.

  • Review 59 (2018-07-26 - Rating: 5)

Amazing spot, and it closes late. Have a beer and relax, they have a big painting of Borges of you care for such a thing.

  • Review 60 (2019-06-29 - Rating: 4)

I like the cocktails during happy hour and I like that the bartenders will leave you alone if you give off that vibe

  • Review 61 (2023-11-24 - Rating: 5)

Made me feel like home! From Boston and love punk and sass! Elizabeth did an amazing job and we love her! 100% recommend if you love dive and sass! Great drinks

  • Review 62 (2019-02-19 - Rating: 5)

I always come here for drinks and I love the vibe. They have books on the wall, juke box in the corner, and an old movie playing in the back. The bartenders are always nice (Shoutout to Christine for being awesome!).Always a good spot to grab a booth and catch up with friends

  • Review 63 (2018-06-08 - Rating: 5)

Lived in NYC for 5 years and moved away, hadnt been here in almost 2 years. Always been an amazing place and still is. Good vibes, chill, this is a place I will always come back to.

  • Review 64 (2016-09-12 - Rating: 5)

Easily one of my favorite and cheapest neighborhood bars. Lindsay or any other bartender will take care of you.

  • Review 65 (2017-03-31 - Rating: 5)

Great dive bar. Had David Lynch movie screening on the back wall. My kinda place.

  • Review 66 (2023-11-12 - Rating: 5)

Cool dive just off Houston. Its not your typical library themed bar - this one has a more counter culture aesthetic, complete with a projector that plays dark comedies and absurdist satires, and slightly spooky wall art. Drank a Gansett and enjoyed it. Crowd got younger and less cool as the night went on.

  • Review 67 (2018-03-25 - Rating: 5)

Small but cool spot. Great staff. Love the bouncer. M is a cool guy!

  • Review 68 (2023-12-04 - Rating: 5)

I started coming here when it used to be called Psychomongo!

  • Review 69 (2017-02-17 - Rating: 5)

Best dive bar in the hood. And theyve got good selection of tequila too

  • Review 70 (2023-11-11 - Rating: 5)

A charming dive bar with a special atmosphere. Definitely a must visit if you fancy this vibe!

  • Review 71 (2017-03-18 - Rating: 4)

A dive that has everything a dive should have-- good to go if youre trying to avoid the crowds

  • Review 72 (2015-04-20 - Rating: 5)

Sunday night 2 for 1 on all types of delicious craft beer...yup.

  • Review 73 (2023-08-27 - Rating: 5)

It’s a bar. It’s dark. It’s kinda smelly. The music is good. The bartenders are friendly, but not too friendly. The atmosphere is right. It’s an oasis in the ever corporatized city.

  • Review 74 (2017-03-26 - Rating: 4)

Great location, average selection and service. Caught in between what it once was and what the neighborhood insists on becoming.

  • Review 75 (2023-02-11 - Rating: 4)

One of the last, great, dive bars in NYC.

  • Review 76 (2024-05-13 - Rating: 5)

Everything you need and want from a dive bar

  • Review 77 (2017-10-05 - Rating: 4)

Great place. They screen random movies on the wall which is great fun.

  • Review 78 (2023-11-02 - Rating: 5)

Honestly still one of the best bars in the city, a haunt, and still holding strong!!!

  • Review 79 (2017-06-25 - Rating: 5)

Classic local dive bar with a great crowd and atmosphere.

  • Review 80 (2022-10-11 - Rating: 5)

Similar vibe to double down which is across the street. So its nice to hit both at once. This place is a bit more intimate with the layout being comprised of more booth seats. Drinks are just as good and they project a movie.Go here and grab a table if looking for a calmer environment.

  • Review 81 (2023-03-07 - Rating: 4)

Unique place! Lots of books on the walls, a jukebox, a vintage monster of a till and good bartenders all help to cultivate a warm, grunge vibe. Had a great time.

  • Review 82 (2019-02-04 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 96 (2024-03-22 - Rating: 5)

    Classic spot never disappoints

  • Review 97 (2022-01-27 - Rating: 5)

Went today, at 4. didnt have happy hour prices, but the interior was very interesting. Gothic, dark, oriental lighting, and International or black and white TV. add to that they have a 2 for 1 happy hour special. Had a interesting conversation with the people. Definitely will come back. the music is a bit post punk and Gothic with 80s music. The bar across has more metal. 2A has more 80s music and punk live music. mercury lounge has gothic and everything. And Dorm black parade has moved on to Brooklyn. Bars here are really nice. The LES has more pop music. But I love this neighbor as it caters to rock fans

  • Review 98 (2023-04-29 - Rating: 5)

Perfectly unpretentious with consistently awesome bar staff

  • Review 99 (2022-09-01 - Rating: 5)

I visited with my friend as we celebrated my birthday around the city. We both loved this place. I am desperately looking for a tshirt from this bar. Mens size large! Please can anybody help me?? They had none available that night but i’m really hoping that has changed. Please help! 🖤

  • Review 100 (2022-05-29 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 101 (2018-11-08 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 102 (2019-09-03 - Rating: 5)

Amazing local dive with incredible staff and good music. Its a call back to when the East Village and LES were still actually cool. The women who tend bar are the best in the biz and take no BS. They have one of the best HAPPY HOURS IN THE CITY.

  • Review 103 (2017-07-18 - Rating: 5)

Man I love this place. Been here twice and will keep on coming back. A great dive bar. Never too crowded, reasonable prices. Love the bartenders!!!!!! Just a great crew. Lovely atmosphere. Just come in and see for yourself. You wont be sorry.

  • Review 105 (2021-09-27 - Rating: 5)

    As advertised, totally awesome bar.

  • Review 106 (2018-12-15 - Rating: 5)

Easy to find somewhere to sit, which as we learned is a great plus in New York. Drinks are cheap and if you come for happy hour seems like a great deal. We didnt make it for happy hour though. Easy to get drinks and they were poured well. Dice bar with good charm.

  • Review 107 (2019-08-28 - Rating: 5)

I arrived here unexpectedly and was pleasantly surprised! The music was awesome. Really good happy hour special until 8pm!!!!! Rare in my own experience! And our waiter - Matias !! Was so delightful and attentive . Will def come back !!!

  • Review 108 (2019-03-14 - Rating: 4)

Super chill go-to bar where you can easily find a seat (even on a Saturday night). The drink prices are reasonable and for happy hour - even better. Theres always a movie playing in the background which is cool. This is the perfect bar if you just want to stay low-key and chat with some friends.

  • Review 114 (2021-09-02 - Rating: 5)

Its a cool little bar with an anarchist vibe and awesome ambiance. Its great for reading a book or meeting with friends.

  • Review 115 (2016-04-18 - Rating: 4)

A bookish-dive-bar and a mainstay of the EV, this place has stuck around after hundreds of other bars and restaurants have failed.

  • Review 116 (2017-12-14 - Rating: 5)

One of my favorite cheap bars in the area. Beer + liquor. Amazing happy hour til 8 featuring buy-one-get-one-FREE. No joke. Buy a beer get another beer for free. They give you a little dinosaur to keep to use as your free drink token so they know youre not trying to cheat them. They play old/culty/weird/funny movies on the back wall via projector almost 24/7. Two bathrooms in the middle make for a convenient pit stop. No food I believe. Great service though!

  • Review 117 (2019-03-29 - Rating: 5)

What else can I say that hasnt been said about this establishment that hasnt been said before. Its amazing, slightly hipsterized and less grungy/dingy than it used to be when it was my local 6 years ago and I lived directly across the street. But cheap, good music, tatted up women,/men. Has character that you dont see to much in the east village anymore

  • Review 118 (2018-06-29 - Rating: 5)

Edgy and hip. You actually feel yourself getting cooler in there.

  • Review 119 (2018-07-30 - Rating: 5)

Punk bar where you feel like at home 💛

Loud grungy bar that is a throwback to the East Village hey-days. They play terrible movies on a screen in the back. Bartenders are friendly and tattooed. Drinks are pretty cheap with $5 beer and shot specials starting at midnight (!) There is a wonderful jukebox.

    Classic.

Fun dive bar with friendly staff. Not giving 5 stars because I’m not a fan of rock/metal music. If this place had electro, then it’d be right up my street.

This is my favorite bar. I made a point to visit this bar on my 5th visit to NYC because I loved it so much 13 years ago on my last visit. This place is classified as a dive but the bartender can make my favorite obscure fancy cocktail, while we listen to punk on the juke box and watch terrible movies projected on the wall. A+ for style, quality, personality, and price. Highly recommend for a fun night out with friends.

Nice place to go and hangout for hours with your friends... Drinks are quite cheap and happy hours have really cheap drinks ... Overall a very good experience and would suggest to give it a shot..

Great Alphabet City dive bar. Crowded.

I had a really fun time at this bar. I love the gritty feel of it and the artwork on the walls. If you walk to the back there is seating and they also show old movies from the late 80s early 90s. The music is good and the drinks are cheap! They have a really great happy hour too. But this isnt the dancing type of bar. This is a place to sit down relax and hang out with friends. The bathrooms really such but I guess that is to be expected at a bar. This is a true dive bar!

Had a reggae band in the basement. Had a blast.

This is one of my favorite bars, which means it has to be dark, with the right kind of music, where a one-on-one talk is still possible. The library is al of that.Good atmosphere and music, friendly bar tenders, and the sitting area is a bit away from the main bar which allows some more quiet. The decor is nice, makes me feel like its some place from an 80s action movie.

    Chill dive bar.

  • Review 142 (2017-07-07 - Rating: 4)

Place really hasnt changed over the years. Same old dive showing films in the back, the walls littered with old books. Nice staff, drinks appropriately priced.

Best happy hour (2-4-1) spot in the EV/LES that runs from 5 to 8, thats pm not am. jukebox is also on point. avoid on Friday and Saturday night as the crowd gets real douce.

Fun hangout in east village. Understand its a little grimey but cheaper beers

  • Review 145 (2021-08-14 - Rating: 5)

Totally cute, creepy, grungy, friendly, very cool ambiance. Very New York, very divey

  • Review 146 (2014-12-02 - Rating: 4)

Surprisingly great dive bar given its location. Pretty crowd of young people come in and the drinks arent as bad price wise as nearby bars. Its not the place to get housed in but its a great spot to hang out with some friends or even pregame before going to the other places that you do want to get housed in that are just down the block.

    Futurama was playing, well done

One of my favorite divey bars in NYC. Emma is an amazing bartender and a even cooler person. Its never a dull momment with her around!

Fun spot with reasonable prices. Interesting crowd though.

Wonderful East Village bar - kinda divey. Great bartenders & crowd - especially in the early happy hours.

4$ beers, good service, not too crammed, not too empty either.
