The food was great. Manager changed our table because it was too loud for my boyfriends hard of hearing parents. Get the mussels! You wont regret it. The steak tartar was amazing. -
Review 2 (2017-02-12 - Rating: 4)
Wait staff are eager to please. Food is hit or miss during brunch. Colombo coffee a plus- nice and strong; no choice of nut milk though. Do not order the oatmeal- very watery, even the great toppings selection that comes with it cannot make up for the lack of substance. Egg dishes come in big portion; good size plate of chicken sausage (tasty too). Seat near door to bathroom /hotel lobby is very drafty, avoid.w -

Review 7 (2018-08-05 - Rating: 5)
A flight delay gave us a chance to try out Chef Zakarian’s restaurant. We were not disappointed! The spinach salad is a wonderful combination of greens (spinach, frisée, squash and crispy shallot) and fruit (pear) with blue cheese. Really worth trying, I will try to replicate. The wine list is quite something. Try the Chateauneuf. The Branzino on polenta is very delicate and well executed. nothing stands out of line, and the watercress gives it a bit of contrast. Lovely. The menu has an interesting variety of delicate and assertive tastes... we will need to sample more next time! -
Review 8 (2019-10-06 - Rating: 4)
Fish and chips tastes very good. So does salada! But my favorite tea, Zakarian blue doesnt taste excellent as it used to. I dont know why. -
Review 9 (2019-09-23 - Rating: 5)
Had the octopus for appetizer and a lamb burger for the main course. Both were excellent. The burger was incredible! -
Review 10 (2017-09-27 - Rating: 4)
I had a pleasant dining experience not because the chef is a celebrity, I am basing my opinion on the good quality of the food. The restaurant can get very loud and hectic during lunchtime, but thats the nature of eating in Midtown. Prices are accessible, not outrageous. My favorite is the lamb burger, and the salads are generous portions made with fresh ingredients. -
Review 11 (2024-07-30 - Rating: 5)
Love this restaurant a favorite of mine when I worked in NYC.. -
Review 12 (2019-02-08 - Rating: 5)
Lunch was absolutely wonderful. The Octopus on a bed of pureed eggplant, with dried roasted chicken peas and a salsa was very memorable!! The Lamb burger with Yogurt and tomato harissa was very flavorful, moist, and cooked to perfection. A latte after the meal was excellent. We will definitely return!! -
Review 13 (2014-04-17 - Rating: 5)
At 6:30-7:30 on a Thursday night the waiter was very attentive. Loved the steak tartar. Enjoyed the paprika fries. The sidekick margarita was delicious. The sparkling water was a ridiculous $7. Would eat here again. -
Review 14 (2018-05-10 - Rating: 4)
Delicious. Tad pricey. Around 20 for breakfast I believe. It was in Manhattan so all good. Nice upscale breakfast for great photos. Minutes away from a nice walk to Times square. -
Review 15 (2018-12-09 - Rating: 4)
Fine dining in the heart of the city. I ordered the fettuccine for the appetizer and pork chop as the entree. Both were delicious. My friends enjoyed their entree of skate, short ribs and steak. Service was also good. -
Review 16 (2013-01-30 - Rating: 4)
Loved Chef Zakarian from Iron Chef show had to come checkout the restaurant. The food was amazing and well worth the price. However the service was sub-par at best, the hostest was very short and snappy. She thought our reservation was at the wrong time even though I had an email confirmation. The wait staff was mixed as well our waiter was extremely quiet and never asked how the food was our explained the menu. Although the food was amazing I will be hesitant to go back without change in service. -
Review 17 (2019-04-23 - Rating: 5)
We were expecting a typical hotel restaurant and went because it was close to our hotel and the theater; we were delighted to find nothing of the sort. Celebrity chef, delicious menu, fantastic wine list... I would have been happy if this were the focus of our evening! -
Review 18 (2019-09-07 - Rating: 5)
My daughter and I arrived at the restaurant 30 minutes late (we called ahead) after getting caught in a downpour and we were seated immediately and could not have had a nicer meal despite our slightly bedraggled appearance. Agree that the energy level is high in the dining room. My teenager loved her crab salad and cookie plate and I enjoyed the burrata/speck appetizer and the hedgehog mushroom pasta entrée. A lovely meal reasonably priced for Manhattan - I would definitely return. If like us you are a tourist the dress code is a notch above business casual since it appeared that many locals were there for dinner after work. -
Review 19 (2020-03-15 - Rating: 4)
Drinks and service where great. Food was not worth the price. -
Review 20 (2016-08-18 - Rating: 5)
The Steak was fantastic! Cooked to perfection and with a lovely sauce to accompany it. The fries were also really tasty, as was the starter. Sadly we didnt have any room for desert. -
Review 21 (2018-12-03 - Rating: 4)

Review 22 (2018-12-24 - Rating: 4)
The burger itself was delicious but the service could have been better. I was meeting with friends from out of town so were chatting a bit and before taking a look at the menu. At a certain point I think our waiter forgot about us? In any case, the food was on point. -
Review 23 (2013-03-13 - Rating: 5)
This is listed as business casual, but, it is so much more. Had great time celebrating a friends birthday here. I made a reservation on line and asked for a great table which I got. Eat steak and love their fries. -
Review 24 (2017-12-26 - Rating: 5)
Excellent selection of wines, meat and fish with views and a full bar. Service was reliable and the atmosphere was casual/cozy. This is a family - friendly restaurant which made for a noisier experience. -

Review 63 (2020-01-09 - Rating: 5)
To start, we were seated in an area that was cold. I asked to move to the other side of the restaurant away from the windows and they immediately obliged and were very graceful and nice about it. This was very telling to me. Our waiter was also super nice and smiley, and the food was great. I got the endive salad which was wonderful; the table bread was perfect; and the fries my boyfriend had were amazing. Come on in! -

Elegant place to land for drinks with a great bar staff! -
Review 71 (2017-12-16 - Rating: 4)
Pricey but breakfast was excellent! Pancakes with blueberries and almonds was served with generous amount of warm maple syrup on the side. Four personal sized bottles of jams accompanied toast for my egg white omelette with salad. Delicious! Coffee is expensive- $12 a pot for two but served with steamed milk on the side. Service was also excellent. Compared with other restaurants in the area, prices are not so bad and food is much better than our other experiences. Definitely would comeback here! Would give five stars for quality but dropped one star for price! -
Review 72 (2018-03-18 - Rating: 4)

Excellent food and service. Reasonable prices too (for Manhattan.) If youre a guest at some of the surrounding hotels, you are entitled to a 10 per cent discount. The National has some significant old school charm to it. Dont let that fool you though. The menu is up to date with many good ones options. Whether youre looking for light fare or looking for a feast, you will find something on the menu.I highly recommend it. -
Review 75 (2018-04-01 - Rating: 5)
Upscale after work drinks and great appetizers to share. -
Review 76 (2018-07-23 - Rating: 4)
Great Thai food. Get the noodles! We had 2 entrees, 3 rounds of Heineken beers, & came out to $60 which wasn’t that bad considering my mom and I were there for 2.5 hours. We sat outside on a comfy July weekday, people watching, had a great time & we weren’t rushed out maybe since it was a bit slower. Only small complaint was that I had asked for half of my dish to be packed up and the bus boy accidentally threw it all out. However, I asked about it, they cooked me up a fresh order to take home so all good. Only reason for the 4 Out of 5 stars. -
Review 77 (2019-11-29 - Rating: 5)
The restaurant exceeds all others. The food and the atmosphere are wonderful. The staff is attentive and so friendly and accommodating. This is our favorite restaurant on visits to NYC. FIVE STARS ON ALL COUNTS! -

Review 79 (2018-12-23 - Rating: 5)
I went here for a work party and it was fantastic! We had cocktails before they mean which were delicious, and the last serving made some great drinks. The meal itself was delicious, especially the butternut squash soup. The room we were in was on the second floor and looked right down on to Lexington Ave -
Review 80 (2016-11-22 - Rating: 4)
Bar and restaurant from celebrity chef Zakarian. Welcoming staff, warm and welcoming atmosphere, though it can get a bit loud, especially closer to the bar area. Serving new American, with a focused, well put together menu - almost everything is worth trying, and many are exceptional. Comprehensive wine list, and cocktail/bar menu, many of the small bites/appetizers are great for sharing. Overall, a decent experience - especially if you want to try out his menu without having to pay even more at his other establishment. -
Review 81 (2015-10-11 - Rating: 5)
Its the only place in this neighborhood where youll find delicious food that is not over priced. they have very good mac and cheese and they serve up a yummy brunch! the service is excellent and the decor is very nice. -
Review 82 (2019-09-19 - Rating: 5)
This is a busy bar/restaurant, part of the Benjamin hotel. It’s very busy during the week when it’s full of business meetings and entertaining, for lunch and early evening, both in the restaurant and the bar area. Service is friendly and quick, the latter not so great if you are looking to linger. The menu is typical American fare, and the lamb burger was excellent. At weekends, there’ll be times when you have the place to yourself. -
Review 83 (2017-02-18 - Rating: 4)
Last night in New York, decided to eat at the restaurant attached to the hotel we were staying at. The mains/entrees were quite small for the price (ordered the tender Red Wine Braised Short Ribs for $33), we needed to add some sides to the dish to fill us up. Crispy Brussels Sprouts and the spiced squash were very good sides. Our son tried the Ugly Burger, he wasnt too impressed. Dessert was delicious and our son loved the in house made mango sorbet! -
Review 84 (2019-12-09 - Rating: 4)

Review 96 (2016-10-27 - Rating: 4)
Set in a modern type atmosphere, the National is a great restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The portions are nice size and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Only downside is that it can get noisey/loud at times, and you may feel like you are shouting in order to have a conversation. -
Review 97 (2019-05-15 - Rating: 5)
Friendly staff, great for a quick bite -
Review 98 (2018-02-04 - Rating: 5)
We had an excellent meal here during restaurant week. Entree choices were nraised short ribs or branzino or half chicken. Everyone enjoyed the food. They were amazingly accommodating as our host changed our guest count from 2 to 3 to 10 to 6 finally. They were super nice about it. -

Review 109 (2020-02-08 - Rating: 5)
We initially came here in 2012 to celebrate our engagement, and tentatively booked our return in 2020 with the knowledge that many restaurants didnt live up to our own memories. We were immensely happy to discover that our memories of The National had not been exacerbated by nostalgia, and it was just as amazing as we remembered it, especially given the time between visits. -

Review 121 (2013-01-21 - Rating: 4)
We had wanted to try The National for some time and we almost canceled our reservation after reading some of the reviews. I am glad we did not, which is why I am writing this. Granted, we went there for brunch, which is a simpler meal, but we had a fantastic experience. We had a carrot ginger soup that was truly delicious. My wife then had a salmon salad that became her new favorite. My huevos rancheros were delicious. The service was not exceptional, but it was certainly not bad. It is just a busy place, so the wait staff, while very friendly and attentive, are busy. So, dont be swayed by what I would characterize as unfairly negative reviews. The restaurant is what it is. If you are attracted by the menu and what they promise, you will not be disappointed. -
Review 122 (2017-11-24 - Rating: 5)

Review 123 (2018-11-17 - Rating: 5)
Great food and service. A little loud. I would recommend it for 2 to 6 people. A larger group would find it hard to converse because of the noise. -

Review 127 (2018-10-29 - Rating: 4)
Mediocre food. Decent bistro atmosphere but the staff was stretched thin on the night that we stopped in. Cleary the draw is the quasi celebraty chef owner, but the food is at risk of being chopped, in my opinion. -
Review 128 (2019-11-26 - Rating: 5)
Good food, very good service and a great place to get work done. -
Review 129 (2016-10-19 - Rating: 4)

The national at the Benjamin Ive never eaten there I dont think I could afford it, but I work the area so I know the place. If you want to see politicians and city officials this is the place. I met floridas governor, x president of santo domingo, & x nypd commissioner ray kelly right out front they all come here. -
