Love this place!! Great location if you like Negronis without the pretentious vibe. Lovely drinks and great set up. FYI, no bar stools so prepare to stand while you drink.

  • Review 2 (2024-02-06 - Rating: 5)

This is just the bar for me! Im partial to spirit-forward, bitter cocktails, and Amor Y Amargo has an astounding diversity of amaro and other specialty liquors: their menu changes each season, but they also have classic cocktails for all tastes. It gets quite crowded and seating space is limited. Prices are a bit lower than at other high-end cocktail bars. Service could be improved.

  • Review 3 (2024-04-22 - Rating: 4)

Brought a small group here on a Saturday night around 7PM. We just managed to snag spots by the bar. I didnt see seats anywhere, but the overall vibe is still pretty cool. Hundreds, if not thousands, of bottles of bitters line the walls, giving it a midcentury apothecary feel. The bartenders obviously know what theyre doing, but the service as a whole could have been better. We had to get our own water, which Im pretty sure wasnt supposed to happen. We got the Archive (daily special, that day was a peach and baking spice forward Negroni) and a couple of their classic drinks. Very tasty and enjoyable, although honestly Ive enjoyed other cocktails more. Prices are about average for a nice cocktail bar in the area, youre looking at around $20/each. By the time we left, the bar was packed, and patrons were spilling out to the storefront and into the street. Get here early.

  • Review 4 (2022-06-19 - Rating: 5)

Great store that sells lots of cocktail wares and bitters, and the bar inside is also pretty decent. For the cocktails, I would say the Sharpie Mustache is more special and really good. The Tiki bitters used for the cocktail is really special, and the fragrance is super good. The old fashioned is also pretty decent.A recommended bar in the area.

  • Review 5 (2024-03-30 - Rating: 5)

This place deserves more than just Top 50 North America bars. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and this place has an impressively vast selection of amari and bitters for you to try and experiment with. A must go in NYC.

  • Review 6 (2024-11-08 - Rating: 5)

The best place for cocktails focused on bitters and amaros. We got basically the entire menu and every drink was really well balanced and full bodied with very interesting flavors. It’s mostly standing only, wondering if they’ll ever do BYOC (bring your own chair)

  • Review 7 (2024-08-30 - Rating: 5)

We enjoyed outstanding cocktails at this bar (very good negroni!). The decor is beautiful - I loved the tiling on the floor and the detailed ceiling design. The patron was friendly and knew his stuff. Would definitely go back.

  • Review 8 (2021-08-11 - Rating: 4)

We don’t drink, but we visited Amor y Amargo with our friends who are extremely into high quality & unique alcohol. The decor was cool and old-fashioned with vintage furniture. The display and layout were like in a museum and their product was like an alrt. The staff was kind of cool and reluctant but we were fine with that. Our friends love their drink so much and plan to visit their bar in the near future.

  • Review 9 (2023-12-28 - Rating: 5)

No tables, no seats, no waiters. Just drinks. And they make it so good, I couldnt stop 🤣The ingredients they use make the drinks so unique and complex, every sip is like an adventure. It is crowded and loud, gets hot in the summer. So I wouldnt bring a date here, unless your date wants the finest cocktail in town.

  • Review 10 (2021-11-15 - Rating: 5)

This nice and cozy place is a hidden germ in the city and happy that we found it! Their drinks are unique and real. Costumer service along with the drinks is all around amazing, which makes you warm and feels like home! So far my favorite drink is Sharpie Mustache

  • Review 11 (2024-12-15 - Rating: 5)

Great vibes. strong drinks. just a great night. come here any time and they will fit you in. standing around a table type vibe but it works well to meet new people! great energy on a friday or saturday especially. we got 2 of the seasonal: the one with lemon essence and the other with dark chocolate notes. the dark chocolate one was amazing. please get it if you go fall 2024. i would come back here 100%. go if you like spirit forward drinks.

  • Review 12 (2024-05-19 - Rating: 5)

This bitters bar is pretty cool and a unique place to visit for a drink. I like to try an aperol spritz with different bitters. My favorites Ive had from here are the root beer or orange bitters with the aperol!

  • Review 13 (2022-02-20 - Rating: 5)

Perhaps *the* quintessential New York bar, Amor y Amargo combines high cocktail craftsmanship with a tiny, cozy setting that fits maybe 10 people. A single bartender-doorman specializes in drinks with bitters of all kinds. The kind of place that sparks the spontaneous encounters, conversation and laughter that make this city great.

  • Review 14 (2022-04-24 - Rating: 5)

We wandered into this cute little bar. The store front sells a variety of rare bitters and towards the back is a bar with gorgeous character. They have a seasonal menu which had a wonderful cocktail called First Blush. Its a standing room but great spot to start off your night.

  • Review 15 (2021-05-09 - Rating: 5)

Great cocktails in an intimate ambiance. We went for a cocktail & food pairing event that was simply amazing.Inventive cocktails paired with plant based menu was a delightful and surprising experience.

  • Review 16 (2023-06-19 - Rating: 5)

Stiff drinks and stiff bartenders, but maybe thats the way it should be? Sit down, shut up, and enjoy your drink? The place makes you want to fall asleep, but in a good way. Its a vibe and its not about you

  • Review 17 (2023-12-08 - Rating: 5)

AJ makes the best drinks!! Loved the creativity and passion that is integrated into each craft cocktail. Amazing experience every time.

  • Review 18 (2024-10-08 - Rating: 5)

Incredible cocktail bar, one of the truly unique bars in the city. Very unpretentious, and explores the depth of Italian Amari. Reasonably priced. Even though all the drinks stick to one major theme, there is incredible variety among the drinks.

  • Review 19 (2022-01-25 - Rating: 5)

This place is a gem! The bartender, Ross, really knew his stuff and was so friendly and accommodating. The drinks were interesting and delicious. I cant praise this place enough!

  • Review 20 (2024-08-30 - Rating: 5)

Ahh what a joint... I could and have spent hours here getting 1oz pours of whatever the bartender was interested in at the moment, a recipe for a lovely night if you catch my drift. Whenever I get to smell the stink of the streets of our nations biggest apple, you can bet I stop here first.

  • Review 21 (2021-09-25 - Rating: 5)

Wow, wow, wow!! Spouse and I did the Spritz and were just blown away. Our server added to the experience with his enthusiasm and insight into the cocktails. And the cocktails...what a great night.

  • Review 22 (2023-11-18 - Rating: 5)

What a fun place. i felt like i was in an apothecary medicine shop. and the drinks did not disappoint. theyre crafted almost scientifically. such beauty. ill have to go back!!

  • Review 24 (2023-06-10 - Rating: 5)

Recommended here by countless industry professionals. Aj an Kraig were incredible and the selection/knowledge is matched by few. Highly recommend.

  • Review 25 (2024-08-07 - Rating: 5)

Came here with my homie to catch up. Was not disappointed. The ambiance is great. AJ was our tender, amazing service provided, every single cocktail we tried was near perfect. Our tender was also very knowledgeable on the different Amari, their profiles and their history!! Very refreshing. Can’t wait to be back.

  • Review 26 (2018-06-11 - Rating: 5)

The cocktail menu drinks are prebatched so service is amazingly quick. Anything else is readily made by the knowledgeable staff. The 8 amaro mix riff on a Sazerac is a bitter lovers dream. Layered, delicious, and ridiculously well balanced for so many ingredients. Go here.

  • Review 27 (2024-10-03 - Rating: 5)

My favorite bar in the city! Love what they do with bitters and amari in their always changing menu. The bartenders are all fantastic and the atmosphere is laid back even though they could’ve chosen to be pretentious given the niche offerings. Love the music they play too!

  • Review 28 (2018-02-15 - Rating: 4)

I came here on Valentine Day and had a Mountain Chase. The drink was delicious and the mixologist was very knowledgeable. Definitely adding this to one of my favorite places to get a nice cocktail in the Village!

  • Review 29 (2024-04-16 - Rating: 5)

One of the best bars, period. Incredible amaro and bitters collection, interesting cocktails, encyclopedic knowledge and great service. We ended up in an impromptu amaro educational session and enjoyed it thoroughly. We hit up a few places here on cocktail row, and AyA was about 1/3 the price and 2x the fun. Get the Brawny Man cocktail or Sharpie Mustache.

  • Review 30 (2017-08-09 - Rating: 4)

First time to have a Manhattan made with only bitters with Old Overholt for the rye. Amazing. After several visits, the drinks are hands down still the best served with professionalism, however dont look for the bartenders to be engaging. Not your old school. If you can look past that youll enjoy yourself.

  • Review 31 (2022-11-06 - Rating: 5)

Umm… Wow. This place blew me away. Went here after Dead & Company and liked the drinks better. Everything was so tasty and had so many layers. I recommend this place to anyone who loves a well mixed drink.

  • Review 32 (2024-10-31 - Rating: 4)

So, if you are here for the bar, come for 6. The store opens at 3. Rookie mistake on my part. 😏Anyways, I still got served a drink from a menu available at the front, so I gotta say that was really nice of the folks working there that day.Worth a stop if you are in the city to visit one of New Yorks classic watering holes.

  • Review 33 (2021-11-14 - Rating: 5)

The bartender was super nice to us. He suggested a nice non alcoholic cocktail and it was super good. My friends alcoholic drinks were fantastic. Amazing vibe and music.

  • Review 34 (2021-11-13 - Rating: 4)

Great bitter selection if stopping by. Tried 4 drinks and the sazerac was my favorite but not what I expected.

  • Review 35 (2023-12-28 - Rating: 5)

Perfect little Amaro bar. If you want cocktails that expand your palate with complexity and want to try drinks youve never had before, this is the place for you. If youre not used to amaro based cocktails, be aware most of the cocktails lean bitter but its an experience you learn to love and appreciate. The 8 Amaro Sazarac and the Dutch Lean were true standouts, plus the vibe makes you feel like you found a back room bar hidden in a pharmacy. Strongly recommend!

  • Review 36 (2023-11-21 - Rating: 5)

A wonderful joint for a unique cocktail made mostly by bartenders who are passionate for the different flavor profiles of amaro. Maybe had one too many here as the cocktails keep flowing in their small old-school whiskey-neat glasses.

  • Review 37 (2022-12-16 - Rating: 5)

Great spot, Phil our bartender really took care of us tonight with tasty cocktails. A must visit

  • Review 38 (2017-04-01 - Rating: 5)

This is my favorite bar in the whole world. Fantastic and unique cocktails with a focus on the huge selection of different bitters they have. Great atmosphere and perfect service!

  • Review 39 (2024-12-25 - Rating: 5)

Great cocktails that highlight bitters. Love the intimate vibe, great for meeting with friends after work.

  • Review 40 (2022-11-24 - Rating: 5)

Staff was welcoming, educated, and actively looking to share their passion for cocktails. The drink menu was small but absolutely delightful. There were a few that I will remember for years to come. If you like sazeracs, I highly recommend trying their take on one. It was worth trying more than once.

  • Review 41 (2024-01-28 - Rating: 5)

Mi Amor… this is the place to be. We tried the place pre-covid and haven’t been back to the city, not only have they expanded, the drinks are better than ever. You know it’s good when you can barely recognize or pronounce any of the ingredients on the menu. It was amazing. Go here. You won’t regret it.

  • Review 42 (2019-12-02 - Rating: 5)

Great cocktails. cozy spot. a bit pricey at $16 a pop but definitely boozy.

  • Review 43 (2023-03-17 - Rating: 5)

Corner bar at an intersection with wide windows where you can people watch while enjoying your drink.Italian inspired bar, you might not find your favorite cocktail here l, for example, they dont have Vodka. Read their menu in advance.Friendly staff, the bartender is very knowledgeable and service was super fast.Mature crowed, lovely jazz music at back ground

  • Review 44 (2024-02-28 - Rating: 5)

Cocktails were outstanding and the staff were even better. Very friendly and welcoming place. Delicious drinks.

  • Review 45 (2022-12-22 - Rating: 5)

Cocktails are unbelievably good with their own original whole serve a few familiar. A bit pricy but with a splurge from time to time. The decor is spectacular. Small but cozy and intimate. Only locals know about this place Highly recommend it if in the neighborhood.

  • Review 46 (2021-08-22 - Rating: 5)

Went for a Reserve tasting with my boyfriend who is a cocktail enthusiast and home mixologist. He found the experience incredibly educational, and I love a stiff cocktail so I was happy to be along for the ride! Great experience/gift for the person you know who loves to make cocktails. We had a great time!

  • Review 47 (2023-06-09 - Rating: 5)

One of the best cocktail bars in NYC. This is a true cocktail enthusiasts bar. If you haven’t had an amaro, the bartenders will gladly introduce you to the wonders of this liquor. Try the Sharpie moustache, or the 8 Amaro sazerac. You won’t be disappointed.

  • Review 48 (2018-10-08 - Rating: 5)

This is one of the those places that you should only go to if you like, or want to explore, bitters. The menu is limited--or rather, if you want bitters, the selection is amazing, but you cant get a margarita or a gin and tonic (though you can get many subtly different Manhattans or Old Fashions). The space is pretty tiny (though absolutely charming) and gets crowded very quickly. The staff is quick and very knowledgeable (though you have to go in the off times to be able to talk to them--it really does get crowded). One of the great things is that they will keep you supplied with water the whole time (drink the water, your body will thank you). Finally, the drinks are really, really amazing. Ive been a couple of times and have generally ordered off the menu (which they change around) and, even when the drinks are not too my particular taste, they are interesting and well crafted. I recommend going with at least one other person so that you can try each others drinks because these drinks tend to be strong and yet youll want to try as many as possible! They also sell a variety of tincture bitters and selected bar tools, books, and whatnot, which would be great gifts (either to yourself or for others). Again, this place is not going to be for everyone, but if you think you might be the kind of person whod enjoy it, I couldnt recommend it enough.

  • Review 49 (2017-06-11 - Rating: 4)

Standing room only. Takes credit card. Noise is mid level and good drinks. Good for small groups. Would visit again before or after dinner around this area.

  • Review 50 (2021-11-26 - Rating: 4)

High quality bar with a vast selection of bitters! My friends and I stumbled upon this speakeasy-type bar on a bustling Saturday night. I ordered their negroni and it definitely packed a punch. At $17/cocktail, honestly Im glad it was as potent as it was for the price tag.Im not usually one to try strong cocktails that dont have much sweetness to them, so I may or may not stop by next time Im in town.

  • Review 51 (2023-08-20 - Rating: 5)

Excellent all the way around. Especially the red-haired Canadian who works there one night a week who could be easily mistaken for Tormund Giantsbane, but with better bone structure. What a fab place with great drinks and service.

  • Review 52 (2022-01-07 - Rating: 5)

Great drinks, first and foremost. Only 8 seats at the bar, which makes the whole place feel cozy. Bartenders were nice enough to give samples, recommendations and even did a few tricks upon request. So much fun and a great memory for a parent visiting from out of state.

  • Review 53 (2018-03-18 - Rating: 5)

Its a tiny bar (cozy?) but the drinks are great. Bartenders are amazing and they got VEP chartreuse (which is awesome). The staff is great about just telling people to cram on in and grab a bevy. If its gonna be a small space you might as well own it. We went on a particularly cold evening last time we were in and the extra body heat was more than welcoming

  • Review 54 (2023-06-17 - Rating: 5)

The cocktail that I ordered was pretty strong. The menu has a lot of choice but I could read it in the dark. I picked it randomly :) . I really liked the atmosphere and the waiter was fast and on point. He made us feel very welcome and got us a good spot to hang out.

  • Review 55 (2015-08-18 - Rating: 4)

Fantastic selection of bitters. Many of the drinks are strong and, to some degree, bitter. If you like classic cocktails, youll love the selection here. Its inventive and original, highly recommended. Note that the space can feel a bit cramped during peak hours and there is no seating.

  • Review 56 (2018-11-20 - Rating: 5)

For the gentleman or lady who enjoys whiskey and has a preference for creative cocktails. A lovely little gem with wonderful dark liquor drinks. Also sells bitters and ingredients at the bar. Small space, with limited seating. Go early if you would like to sit at the bar. If not, it will most likely be standing room only.

  • Review 57 (2020-11-12 - Rating: 5)

Admittedly, the place is small but they make one hell of a drink. This bar will make you think differently about what defines a delicious cocktail. I wouldnt spend your entire time here because it can get pretty packed for such a small space, but its definitely a good place to start or end a night out

  • Review 58 (2019-02-01 - Rating: 5)

Its the best bitter bar in the city. Simple menu in a tiny space, everything is executed perfectly every time I go. I always have 1 drink more than I plan to because everything is worth tasting. If you are in the Lower East Side and enjoy stirred, booze forward cocktails, get over there immediately and often.

  • Review 59 (2023-12-02 - Rating: 5)

Unbelievable selection of amari. Intelligently crafted cocktails showcasing the amari and the skills of the bar staff. Standing room only so keep granny at home

  • Review 60 (2024-03-06 - Rating: 5)

If youre looking for a good cocktail and a great vibe you definitely must go Amor y Amargo. The bartender was nice and I loved my old fashioned.

  • Review 61 (2016-06-02 - Rating: 5)

Easily the best whiskey cocktail joint Ive been to in town. By no means over the top or flashy, just simply delivers every time. Its a small locale with with one or two tending the bar, but the quaintness of the place adds to the charm. I was shown this place, and have brought several others here -- every visit I once again learn to appreciate how a simple old fashioned should be made.

  • Review 62 (2024-12-27 - Rating: 4)

    Very good negroni

  • Review 63 (2019-09-26 - Rating: 5)

Killer cocktails with a focus on amari. The space is small, but it has a lovely intimate feel. Its fun when its mellow, and still fun when it is absolutely crammed. Drinks arent cheap but they are worth it.Service is great. Blake is wonderful. I would recommend stopping here if you like great drinks.

  • Review 64 (2023-02-05 - Rating: 5)

Speciality store for bitters. Bar in the back had a great selection of aperitifs - thoughtfully crafted cocktails about 17$ each. Really fun vibe and super unique store for bitter/amaro lovers

  • Review 65 (2016-01-14 - Rating: 5)

Cant rate this place enough. If youre in to long, fruity cocktails, then perhaps skip it; if you enjoy a decent Old Fashioned or Manhattan and are looking for something a bit different then head on down. Its small, so can get pretty crowded, its worth it for the drinks and friendly service though. Goes down as one of the highlights of a recent trip to the Big Apple :)

  • Review 66 (2017-12-08 - Rating: 4)

Great little cocktail spot in the East Village. There are plenty of bars similar within walking distance from this place. I normally come here if I have a long wait for another cocktail spot nearby lol. But their drinks are still pretty good. Not much places to sit inside, and the small menu offers drinks that have their own uniqueness.

  • Review 67 (2023-04-26 - Rating: 4)

The concept here is great, I love how this bar is both a bitters shop in the front and a cocktail bar in the back. The vibe is more on the casual and laidback side so our group was able to have a conversation without shouting too.In terms of drinks, the cocktail combinations are definitely uniquely made. They go heavy on the bitters (as the theme implies) so you can taste some interesting flavors which makes it a hit or miss but overall not bad.

  • Review 68 (2022-05-22 - Rating: 5)

Great concept and also one of the best cocktail bars in the city.

  • Review 69 (2017-04-09 - Rating: 5)

This is the best first date spot in Manhattan. On a Tuesday night, it is quiet, intimate, and a great place to have a conversation. Their selection of drinks cocktails means no one is unhappy. I highly recommend that you experiment with one of their concoctions.

  • Review 70 (2022-01-30 - Rating: 5)

Honestly, one of the most interesting cocktail programs out there. Mixing spirits that I have never seen together (Rye and Mezcal) in balanced and clean cocktails makes this a must visit. And their outdoor cabins are just awesome. Weve been coming here for years, and the craftsmanship of the cocktails is always on point .

  • Review 71 (2021-09-15 - Rating: 5)

Great bar for lovers of bitters in their cocktails (hence the name of the bar). The drinks are on the pricier side so it’s not the place to bring all your friends for pregaming. Save this to impress that special someone on a date instead.

  • Review 72 (2016-12-28 - Rating: 5)

Great cocktails, exactly to my taste. The bartender was very knowledgeable, friendly and worked the busy room perfectly. He made me a beautiful cocktail with Branca Menta on my request, and my date a Fernet cocktail which was delicious. To top it off, when asked for recommendations for dinner, he sent us to Le French Diner which was incredible. Will definitely be back.

  • Review 73 (2024-08-08 - Rating: 5)

Knowledgeable cocktail bar without the snootiness. Very approachable and tasty cocktails. Get their early, relax, and have a chat with the proud owner who can help with any questions you might have

  • Review 74 (2024-08-07 - Rating: 4)

A neat bar with specialized drinks made with Amaros and bitters. You won’t get conventional cocktails here, so keep that in mind. I had a Negroni and a Punchy, bitter drinks just how I like them! The bartender and waiter were pretty good at managing the huge crowd they had, it’s a small place but lively. Definitely recommend.

  • Review 75 (2018-12-08 - Rating: 5)

In town first time in Manhattan. Met my friend at this place that came highly recommended by him and It did not disappoint. My only complaint could be that it was very crowded but they managed to serve me a drink In minutes. Thats a good thing to be crowded on Friday night and means they doing something right. It is nice to see someone take such pride In their work still in this day and age. I met the bar owner/author and just a cool down to earth person. Glad I stopped here, i havent been out much in NYC, but I would say this is going to be on my list next time I come to town.Over 100 different types of bitters (amor y amargo) love and bitters. This place is the real deal. Cant say thanks enough had a great night.

  • Review 76 (2018-10-02 - Rating: 5)

Blake was amazing! Dont often see anyone so professional and efficient. He was simultaneously charming, quick, and considerate. We had menus as soon as we walked in and drinks minutes after we ordered. The drinks were amazing too. Zero complaints, if I lived in NY, I would be a regular.

  • Review 77 (2023-08-15 - Rating: 5)

Amor y Amargo has the perfect high end bar vibes with reasonable prices. They make delightful cocktails that are all worth trying. The Amaro Sazerac was our favourite but you wont go wrong with anything on the menu. I strongly recommend this for intimate dates and hangouts

  • Review 78 (2021-08-28 - Rating: 5)

Reserve tasting was incredible. Fantastic food and drink pairing, educated and fun bartender kept the whole audience engaged all evening. A treat having a private bartender two hours to ask questions and learn the secrets of the trade. Cant wait to come back!

  • Review 79 (2018-09-13 - Rating: 5)

Best amaro selection in NYC. Awesome cocktails that rotate seasonally. Super friendly bartenders who are very knowledgeable but not pretentious. Dont ask for vodka or anything with citrus juice or soda.

  • Review 80 (2023-10-13 - Rating: 5)

The 8 Amaro Sazerac was the best damn cocktail Ive ever had and I drink a lot. Im coming back here anytime Im in NY.

  • Review 81 (2019-01-29 - Rating: 5)

Favorite cocktail bar in the city! If you love amaro, this is a must visit. Its a hole in the wall with no seating - just a bar, a bartender, and probably the most amaro and bitters you ever seen in one place.Typically packed on Friday and Saturday nights but worth it!

  • Review 82 (2019-04-14 - Rating: 5)

Amazing place. The girl who ran it made the experience even better. Its standing room only but the bar guys are so on the ball you are never left waiting or fighting to order. Incredible drinks and ambience. Will be back next time in NYC.

  • Review 83 (2019-07-30 - Rating: 5)

Great bar in the east village. It is small which creates a great intimate vibe. Their selection of alcohol is extensive and the bartenders are really knowledgeable. Would definitely go to catch up with a friend or for a date.

  • Review 84 (2024-01-17 - Rating: 5)

Love this bar and their no citrus policy. Creative cocktails and appreciate that the lighting isnt too dim.

  • Review 85 (2015-12-28 - Rating: 5)

Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Great cocktails. Ask the bartender about their bitters too and you may find yourself end up buying some unique bitters to stock up your cocktail cabinet.

  • Review 86 (2016-11-06 - Rating: 5)

Had an excellent Manhattan here. Great selection of ryes as well.

  • Review 87 (2022-07-22 - Rating: 5)

You cannot leave this place disappointed ever. I was even searching for things to complain about because I was already shocked how attentive the staff was to each individual even on a busy night.Stellar work on each of their employee’s behalf, Karynn was not only one of the most knowledgable/hospitable people i’ve met at any overthrow hospitality venue, but was incredibly helpful with stellar recommendations on where to go once they had closed. Saved my girlfriend’s college graduation (on a monday) from being champagne-less!

I never had a chance to drink here before the pandemic, but easily my favorite outdoor bars in the area.It is a digestif/amaro fans dream--get ready for some rich, delicious, and bitter cocktails.

  • Review 90 (2015-02-10 - Rating: 5)

This place is fantastic when its not packed because yes the cocktails are very good, but thats because the bartenders are very knowledgable and really great to talk to. If you get a chance, try going when its not that busy (between 5:30 and 7:30 on a weekday) and gets some fine cocktail schooling.

List of 11 drinks crafted by half a dozen mixologists, and labelled with initials on who created which.- I liked my drink. It was smooth (by LM?) with floral and stone fruit notes- Wabbit huntin - Citrus flavor, was also not bad. They use nice large ice cubes.Ambiance:- A small, cozy place, with standing room only, for about 25 people.- Theres one bar with one of the mixologists tending the placeMax had a wry sense of humor

  • Review 92 (2018-06-05 - Rating: 5)

We had excellent drinks and service. Blake was so attentive and pleasant to chat with. My husband was looking forward to coming to this bar while we were in town, being a fan of various amari and just finishing Brad Thomas Parsons book Amaro. We even had our toddler with us and still felt welcome.

Bespoke & snarky lil craft cocktail nook. Cultivate your appreciation for complex bitters!

  • Review 94 (2019-10-05 - Rating: 5)

This is what old school New York is all about. Little hole in the wall spot, standing room only, where a magician mixes drinks, and a server hands menus to every soul that enters the doorway. The drinks are sublime. You didnt even know what amaro was until you ordered something. Then you left an expert after the magician served you whatever flavor you were thinking about on a whim: orange, vanilla, rosemary, who knows. Then you left to go do something cool, but youll never forget the magician or his potions. And youll come back. Because you never thought that amaro and bitters could be that enchanting.

  • Review 95 (2017-02-20 - Rating: 5)

Fantastic drinks served in a beautiful space. Go early in the evening to sit on a stool, they remove them later on. Bartenders are friendly and knowledgable and obviously pour a lot of love into the business.

The staff are excellent, especially Lindsay!!

  • Review 97 (2023-01-14 - Rating: 5)

So so so awesome. Absolutely incredible. Amor Y Amargo has a clear vision on what exactly they want to make, and everything from the ambience to the drinks themself are executed perfectly. There are many wonderful cocktail bars in Manhattan, but none can make anything like the drinks served here. Amor Y Amargo has a unique drink program you cannot experience anywhere else.

  • Review 98 (2021-10-03 - Rating: 5)

Bartenders here are top notch they are able to give great recommendations and also build a cocktail to fit your favorite profile. I will make sure to come here every time Im in New york.

  • Review 99 (2017-01-18 - Rating: 5)

I love bitter drinks, and this is a great place to have them. Bartenders will work out a drink for you if theres something particular you want to try, but the menu cocktails I tried were all delicious as well.

  • Review 100 (2019-02-18 - Rating: 5)

This cozy little bar is perfect for a unique cocktail and an intimate environment. My boyfriend and I stopped in on a Saturday evening and the space was filled to almost capacity. The shelves are well curated with retail for mixing cocktails. The wood and tile create a homey ambiance and warm feeling.Never having tried Bitters before I wasn’t sure what I was in for but my taste buds got a pleasant surprise. Each unique cocktail was expertly mixed, beautifully executed and delicious. Not your typical, run of the mill bar, this is truly an experience. I’m sure we will be returning frequently to enjoy the rest of their menu.

  • Review 101 (2017-10-09 - Rating: 4)

Cocktail bar focused in bitter cocktails. Quite busy, but fast service. No seating so just go if you are happy to stand. Very recommended if you want something different!

  • Review 102 (2016-06-27 - Rating: 5)

Love in the air at this small intimate cocktail bar. Discovered Sother Teague from the Alton Brown Podcast and I knew I had to try this spot. If you appreciate the classics like Old Fashioneds and any drink with bitters, this is a must try.

  • Review 104 (2019-02-12 - Rating: 5)

Amazing little cocktail bar feauring every Amaro and bitters flavour you could ever dream about. They make fantastic cocktails, and guests are encouraged to try the different bitters, which the bartenders can then incorporate into custom drinks for your flavour profile. Its an amazing place to visit if you find yourself in the East Village. I would also make a trip just to come here honestly. Loved it!

  • Review 105 (2021-06-12 - Rating: 5)

Amot Y Amargo is a jewel of Manhattan. Even with only outside seating it is a special place. If you are looking for a low key way to enjoy the weather and do a bit of people watching grab a summer spritz and relax for a bit.

  • Review 108 (2018-03-27 - Rating: 5)

Great place, very small and candlelight makes it comfy. Very knowledgeable bartender and fantastic drinks. Was sent here by the doorman at Death and Co. while we waited for a table. Glad he sent us there.

  • Review 109 (2022-07-03 - Rating: 5)

This bar is incredible. The bartenders are very attentive and helpful and the vibe is very casual and friendly while also feeling a bit classy. The drinks were very carefully balanced and showcased many Amaro wonderfully. AJ, one of the bartenders picked out an amazing craft fernet for me to try and also made a great drink on the spot for me when I challenged him to suprise me with something involving rum agricole. THE place to go for cocktail lovers and bitter fanatics!!

  • Review 110 (2019-02-15 - Rating: 5)

This place knows their stuff! Order from the menu, or just tell them what you like from a cocktail and let them construct something for you. Negroni Negroni Negroni!! Theres one off-menu called a Waterproof Watch which is my fave. Another called Oh My Word is up there too. Tiny little place with few seats, but I go there at least once every time Im in NYC.

  • Review 113 (2023-12-27 - Rating: 5)

Wondrous selection of bitters from around the world. I bought Pathfinder non-alcoholic bitters (distilled but not fermented), which works well as a splash in bourbon and other whiskey.

  • Review 114 (2022-10-04 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 115 (2018-07-11 - Rating: 4)

  • Review 139 (2022-12-11 - Rating: 5)

An amaro lover’s paradise. The cocktails each feature different amari and bitters and are all delicious, our favorite was the 8 Amaro Sazerac. Drinks are served in a cozy, pub-like setting; I was surprised we didn’t have to wait at all to get in on a Saturday evening. Our bartender was very friendly and did a good job making sure everyone was getting their drink orders in turn. A special place!

  • Review 140 (2024-06-01 - Rating: 5)

Really love their cocktails. They always have a seasonal menu, alongside the usual classics. This is my go to spot when bar crawling, and we’re in the mood for a strong and unexpected stirred drink. Service can be a bit hit or miss, servers are usually uppity. Atmosphere is super nice, but bar can get crowded and space can be quite limited (standing space only).

  • Review 141 (2018-04-05 - Rating: 5)

A new favorite in NYC. The atmosphere, the staff, the drinks... all perfect! If you are into bitter drinks, go for the 8 Amaro Sazerac - a perfect blend of all good (bitter) things. And, of course, have a Manhattan, too!

  • Review 152 (2022-03-29 - Rating: 5)

I can not say enough good thing about the cocktails. I was blown away! They dont do soda, mixers, juices, etc. Only bitters and wow!

  • Review 162 (2021-09-14 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 163 (2024-04-15 - Rating: 4)

Busy with standing room only. A lot of spirit-forward and amaro-focused cocktails, those were great but if that’s not your thing then go elsewhere. Also have a store area in the entrance, selling cocktail bitters, books etc.

  • Review 164 (2022-11-13 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 171 (2017-12-09 - Rating: 5)

If you like bitters, youll feel at home here. Tiny place, intimate, homey atmosphere, and a bartender who is a true pro.

  • Review 172 (2023-10-07 - Rating: 5)

We were intending to go to its more well known neighbor, the one with the book that cocktail lovers all know…. However, we found that the wait at the other place was quite long, and the bouncers recommended Amor Y Amargo to pass the time. I’m very glad that they did - it turned out to be the best cocktails of the evening (even though we managed to get in the other place later on…) Bruce the bartender was incredibly crafty and was able to conjure up novel cocktails that pleased the variety of palates in our group. The neighborhood is lucky to have such a great place. Don’t miss it!

  • Review 173 (2016-04-10 - Rating: 5)
