Honestly I have never gave a review to any place ever but I guess I should make that one of my resolutions after my time at this wonderful establishment last night! I like to do my due diligence and research spots before going somewhere and this spot was recommended by many. Marvin was so amazing and it was entertaining hearing him recommend drinks to other patrons and be so knowledgeable on anything alcohol related! Both of the drinks I ordered were amazing and I would recommend this spot to both lifelong New Yorkers and tourists if you’re into cocktails.

Intimate and dimly lit spot for cocktails. Pretty good drinks. The legacy Honshu Punch was especially my favorite. Ideal for groups of 1-4. Very prompt service from the bartenders too.

Ever since I started mixology as a hobby, advancing my bar and knowledge/reading their books I been wanting to come to this bar. I tried the Penicillin, my favorite cocktail, along Pink Matter a strawberry brandy combo with hints of spice, good stuff. Good presentation, prices between 20$-30$, the waiters were efficient and attentive, the bar itself was dark and moody to set the tone. Would definitely go again when visiting New York.

  • Review 4 (2024-12-23 - Rating: 5)

This renowned cocktail bar has earned a reputation as one of the citys most iconic spots. Since they operate on a first-come, first-served basis and don’t accept reservations, arriving early is highly recommended—or be prepared for a lengthy wait. Their cocktails are exceptional, with many of their creations being so influential that they’ve essentially set the standard in mixology. Its absolutely worth visiting if you have the chance!

Death & Company is a cornerstone of New York City’s cocktail scene and a must-visit for anyone who appreciates expertly crafted drinks. Tucked away in the East Village, this speakeasy-style bar offers an intimate and moody ambiance, perfect for a date night or catching up with friends. The cocktail menu is innovative and ever-evolving, featuring a perfect balance of classics and creative concoctions. The bartenders are true artisans, happy to recommend something based on your preferences or even whip up a custom drink tailored to your taste. While the space is small and often has a wait, it’s absolutely worth it. The service is polished, and the attention to detail in both the drinks and the experience is impeccable. For a truly memorable cocktail night in NYC, Death & Company is hard to beat

We went two nights in a row to Death&Co and it was 100% worth the time.Every cocktail was perfect. But the service was exceptional. On the second night, they remembered us from before and the service team remembered what we ordered. And when my wife bowed out of the last round of the night, they thoughtfully brought a club soda with lemon (without prompting) so we’d both have something to drink to finish the night.Seriously, this spot is so classy!

  • Review 7 (2024-07-28 - Rating: 5)

If there’s one cocktail bar I return to again and again and again, it’s Death & Co. This is a NYC cocktail institution of the highest order. The atmosphere is exactly what you want in a cocktail bar - dark and refined. And the bartenders and cocktails are truly among the best in the city. The menu is quite lengthy and changes a couple times a year so there’s always something new to try. And they are some incredible cocktails - no basic manhattans and Negronis here. Be prepared to be impressed!

  • Review 8 (2024-12-12 - Rating: 5)

While we were waiting for our reservation at a restaurant in the area, we chance to stumble onto this location. We arrived only a few minutes before the doors opened, and although there were a few people in the little queue before of us, we were seated as soon as possible. We just bought cocktails because we were going to dinner, but they were excellent! Our favorite was definitely the antique egg nog. There is a wonderful vibe. I really enjoyed how snug and dark it is.

  • Review 9 (2024-01-21 - Rating: 5)

We just happened to stumble on this place while we were in the neighborhood and waiting for our reservation at a restaurant. We got there just a few minutes before they opened and there were a few people ahead of us in a small line, but we were able to get in and seated right away.Since we were headed to dinner we only ordered drinks but the ones we had were delicious! The vintage egg nog was easily our favorite. The atmosphere is great. It’s dark and cozy and I just loved it.

  • Review 10 (2024-10-03 - Rating: 5)

Loved the door girls/hosts. (In a gay way not in a creepy cis-het man way) - they were so pleasant. Had a great experience here meeting a friend for a drink or two, or ideally three to seven. Everything was delicious, I wanted to hate this place so bad (personal vendetta against all bars that make me leave Brooklyn) but regrettably I had one of the best cocktails of my life. The Sunshower™️ was prepared to perfection, the Russell’s reserve 6 yr rye whiskey and mezcal blending together with the cucumber bitters and other ingredients which I won’t pretend to know (amaro pasubio & faretti) all created the concoction of my dreams.Give it a try, I liked the different sections of the menu. I wanted to skip straight to sloshed and the “Boozy & Honest” section called my name in just the right whisper. Seductive little interior with ample opportunity for flirting and sultry conversations - what a great date night spot. Again all of this is derogatory, wish this wasn’t in Manhattan but here we are.

  • Review 11 (2023-07-20 - Rating: 5)

I dont think people are exactly flocking to this place for the food, but what Ive eaten has been good. Those COCKTAILS, though! Thats what its about! And the atmosphere! My husband and I took our son, who just accepted a position as an Assistant Professor and has been a HUGE fan of Death & Co for years. Perfect place to toast to his new career! We were glad we arrived early because the place is small and a line does form, so be ready for that. Make a reservation, if you can!Service has been super both times we have visited! Oh, and I loved that they had my info in the system from our first visit, so when we arrived the second time they knew my name. Nice touch!Well be back!

  • Review 12 (2023-02-14 - Rating: 4)

Speakeasy vibe bar, make sure to drop your name in waiting list, plan at least 45 minutes.Diverse menu, friendly staff and fast service. There s something about the music in the background that is so addictive, its hard rock but soft at the same time.Had my Manhattan drink and I enjoyed the experience.Little pricey though.

  • Review 13 (2023-07-13 - Rating: 5)

My wife and I came for the first time on 7/12/23 and had a great experience. We sat at the bar so we could “be in on the action” and loved the whole vibe.Tiffany was our bartender and she was incredible - very kind, generous, and easy to chat with. We had a couple rounds of drinks and she was very helpful. The drinks were great, and my personal favorite was the “Achilles Last Stand”. It was a mezcal cocktail that seemed to linger in the best way possible.Highly recommend and I can’t wait to come back.

  • Review 14 (2023-10-08 - Rating: 5)

We popped in around 11 pm on a Sunday and only had to wait about 15 minutes for a spot at the bar. The menu has a good variety for vegetarians. Everything was top notch- drinks, snacks, service. We had a great time!

  • Review 15 (2024-01-08 - Rating: 5)

We’ve visited in Denver, Los Angeles and now NYC - Death & Co is not an institution to miss. Alexander was a wonderful bartender and served us so well while sitting at the bar. Thank you for a wonderful evening! Try the drunken cookies and the popcorn for a good treat.

  • Review 16 (2024-04-09 - Rating: 5)

Fantastic cocktails. you’ll meet new people and it’s poppin all the time. fantastic balance of flavours and fantastic martinis. really cool vibe and great service. absolutely love this spot.

  • Review 17 (2022-09-21 - Rating: 5)

Such unique cocktails. Beautiful flavors. Got there early enough that we were first on the wait list and the wait wasnt bad at all. Bartender was awesome and helped my wife find a drink that was still interesting but fit her somewhat more sweet tastes.

  • Review 18 (2023-02-07 - Rating: 5)

This is a unique cocktail bar that has become one of the most famous in the city. They do not take reservations so its best to come early or expect to wait hours to get in. The cocktails are all phenomenal and they literally wrote the book on many of them. Definitely try to stop in, its worth it.

  • Review 19 (2023-02-04 - Rating: 5)

The cocktails here were really good. Ended up here for a boys night and all of us thoroughly enjoyed our drinks. We got there 30 minutes after it opened and there was a 2 hour wait. We put our names down and about 1 hr 40 minutes later, heard back from them that our table would be ready in 10 minutes. Thought it was worth the wait - we were able to go grab dinner elsewhere in the meantime and then came back here for some great cocktails. They tend to be a bit busy so even though they ask you to keep your voice down when you enter, the overall spot tends to get a bit loud. The ambience is great and overall, would highly recommend this spot.

  • Review 20 (2024-10-20 - Rating: 5)

Death & Company in New York City is a renowned cocktail bar known for its expertly crafted drinks and intimate atmosphere. The dimly lit space features stylish decor, creating a cozy vibe. The extensive cocktail menu showcases both classic and innovative creations, with knowledgeable bartenders eager to customize drinks to your taste. While it can be busy, the meticulous attention to detail makes it a must-visit for cocktail enthusiasts seeking a top-notch experience.

  • Review 21 (2023-05-07 - Rating: 5)

Great zero proof cocktails, friendly staff, warm atmosphere. The fingerling potatoes were exceptional. Death & Co. has a speakeasy mood with a plain entryway and an ornate interior. Expect dinner to be loud and candle lit.

  • Review 22 (2022-01-14 - Rating: 5)

Probably the best cocktail I’ve ever had. The ambiance here was fantastic - it feels like you’re in the 1800s drinking in a dark, cozy, candlelit tavern. The contralto with mezcal was like drinking smoke - it was incredible. When we entered a little past 6 when they opened, the venue was already completely full. Definitely a treat to get a drink here!

  • Review 23 (2022-04-25 - Rating: 5)

Really fun upscale cocktail bar, it might seem impossible to get in here but be patient and put your name down about 1-2 hours prior to when you actually want to get in. we waited 1.5 hours for 2 people on a thursday night at 8PM. it definitely helps to have loose plans if you want to go here. the drink menu is extensive but you won’t find anything like this elsewhere! great for date night or a drink with a small group!

  • Review 24 (2022-08-08 - Rating: 5)

Another rave review for the team here. Great atmosphere and all the bartenders are so knowledgeable! They also are great with allergies. I am super allergic to pineapple and our bartender doubled washed everything to make sure nothing was cross contaminated.

  • Review 25 (2023-10-10 - Rating: 5)

Very hip cocktail bar. The line to get in was a little confusing and weird but once we were seated the place was very intimate and cozy. Great drinks, but I would recommend that you order a classic cocktail instead of the more “adventurous” drinks if you are picky. But it’s always fun to try something new if you’re in the adventurous mood! Also the chicken was so good.

  • Review 26 (2024-08-14 - Rating: 5)

This legendary bar lived up to its reputation comfortably! If you want the full experience, sit at the bar and engage the bartender in conversation. They know what the hell they are talking about, and it elevated our experience tremendously. The drinks are superb, carefully thought out and unique unto this place. Tiffany, our bartender, gave exquisite recommendations, and we were able to curate our experience exactly to our tastes.Queen of the night, knives, edge, rolling, blackout, and adrenaline rush, were all exquisite and catered to my whiskey, spirit forward palate. The ambience is incredible, and there were a variety of liquors I had never seen before. Definitely one of the top bars in New York City, in the world. I only say that after visiting all of the bars listed in the top 100 in the world 2023 that are located in New York City.

  • Review 27 (2022-07-09 - Rating: 5)

Death & Co is one of the fanciest cocktail bars in the city and everyone who loves cocktails will tell you so. Please don’t take their word for it. Go try them out. First of all, the menu is incredibly designed according to mood instead of alcohol/spirits. I was feeling playful so went for their Light & Playful menu. Interpolation & Reptilian we’re both incredible cocktails! I think for me interpolation won the game because it had mango in it. Fabulous mix of flavors that can get you tipsy super fast! My friend went for Wild Thoughts which looks very Elegant. We got food at the place as well- Popcorn, Fava & Cannellini Dip, and Fingerling Potatoes. All incredible. Popcorn wasn’t anything crazy but the other two were delicious!

  • Review 28 (2024-12-14 - Rating: 5)

Visiting Death & Co was an unforgettable experience. The atmosphere was intimate, with a perfect mix of sleek sophistication and cozy charm. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and welcoming, guiding us through the menu with expertise.I tried a few cocktails featuring mezcal, and they were absolutely incredible. Each drink had a perfect balance of smoky depth from the mezcal, paired with unique ingredients that created rich, complex flavors. The craftsmanship in every pour was evident, and it was clear that the bartenders are true artists. It’s not just a bar; it’s an experience. I’ll definitely be back for more of those mezcal masterpieces.

  • Review 29 (2022-07-10 - Rating: 5)

The cocktail of this place is amazing and the foods are absolutely fantastic! I almost fell in love with their chicke wing, and the atmosphere is dark and gives you the moody feeling to make your night special if need be. It’s very difficult to find a reservation spot here, so we walked in and put our name on the waitlist and they called us after 30~40minutes. Definitely looking forward to go back for more experience👍

  • Review 30 (2024-06-16 - Rating: 5)

Incredible drinks. The dark environment would lead you to belief its a snobby vibe, but not at all. The staff was very patient and did a great job explaining the characteristics, in very curiously accurate ways, the experience of each drink.Definitely one of the best cocktail bars in New York.

  • Review 31 (2024-09-13 - Rating: 5)

Expensive speakeasy.. but bang for the buck.. no reservations so you have to be there at 6pm or it gets full too quickly. The best burratta I have ever tried

  • Review 32 (2022-01-07 - Rating: 5)

Finally visit this dreamy place and it was really worth it…beautiful cocktails and interesting menu! I ordered innerstellar love and ultraviolet, both of them were flavourful and catchy on tongue, leaving a pleasant aftertaste! Also the atmosphere is nice. Highly recommended this bar as a must-visit.

  • Review 33 (2024-12-24 - Rating: 5)

Drinks were pricey so come with your bucks but they are really good and the bartenders are personable. I should have seen if I couldget the book. One of the bartenders was talking about Caroline Shaw, then he came to us talking about J. Cole, since we were there for his show at MSG. I tried the Oaxacan Old Fashioned, Naked and Famous and a Doctor Isley, and a Mai Tai.

  • Review 34 (2022-12-15 - Rating: 5)

Have always wanted to visit this bar since I had a few cocktails at the Denver location, and boy did it really live up to the hype. Very friendly door staff and a very knowledgeable bar staff. Food was perfect, vibe was all you could ask for and the cocktails exceeded expectations.

  • Review 35 (2022-06-22 - Rating: 4)

My husband and I have become home cocktail aficionados after purchasing Death & Co.’s book, Cocktail Codex. Had to go there while visiting NYC. Cool, incognito front door with two friendly door hands that took our name and cell number for the waitlist. Had to wait 20 minutes on a Tuesday at 6:00pm. We’re seated in the two worst seats possible, at a wall shelf in the hallway to the restroom. If you go, DEFINITELY ask to be sat at the bar - I do we didn’t realize was needed, but wish I would have since they don’t let you switch seats after you are sat. Drinks were delicious of course, though spendy which we expected. Server was not very attentive and it took about 10 minutes before she came to greet us and take our order.

  • Review 36 (2018-04-20 - Rating: 5)

My phone crashed and wiped out the review I was partially through typing. Grrrrr. My other half is a tall, curly haired, hard-to-miss Southern man. I grew up on Long Island. Southerners are a punchline in New York. I figured if anyone was going to get sassed or get shooed away from the front door, it was him. I went in with my hackles up.Well, I was wrong. For the two and a half-ish hours we were there, the bartenders were extraordinarily nice to us. My other half is a huge cocktail and spirits nerd, and I think they picked up on that.Every drink was beautifully balanced and presented. Well done, boys.

  • Review 37 (2021-11-06 - Rating: 5)

I am a big fan of Death & Companys Longbow - Great King Street Glasgow Blended Scotch, Batavia Arrack, Carrot, Coconut, Lemon, Moroccan Bitters. This dark and intimate East Village speakeasy is heavily decorated with awards (it was a mainstay on the early days of The World’s 50 Best Bars), and for good reason. It’s been one of New York’s top spots to get well-constructed cocktails for more than a decade, opening at the beginning of 2007. While the decor is timeless Manhattan – exposed brick, low-slung tables and a marble bar top – and the bartenders invoked days gone by in their bow ties and suspenders, the drinks have remained thoroughly modern, with a cocktail menu that changes twice a year. All seating is on a first come, first served basis. They will put you on the waiting list and text you when your seat is ready.

  • Review 38 (2019-08-11 - Rating: 5)

Okay, this is a definite five star place for the NYC experience. More along the lines of a speakeasy, the drinks are unique and taste fab. I loved my Lamplighter. Being more of a bourbon girl, this was along the lines of an updated RobRoy—a little smoke and a lot of flavor. Alan had the Sazawa...? I know I am spelling that wrong. He liked it - a little sweet but citrus forward and perfect for a summer night. Great place for a good cocktail

  • Review 39 (2022-05-27 - Rating: 5)

Starting at the doorman, super friendly, very helpful. Our friend was supposed to arrive late so he took us inside and told us to not be worried about it. That he will bring her to our table. (Thank you !!) the drink were delicious, sophisticated. The place is very cozy, in the dark ! Loved it.The manager was super helpful to proposed to us some new cocktail out of the list and I don’t regret it at all !

  • Review 40 (2020-01-22 - Rating: 5)

Cocktails and service were exceptional. Absolutely lives up to the hype on every way. Fantastic, dark atmosphere. The vibe of the whole place was on point in every way. Highly recommended if youre looking for stellar cocktails in a fantastic, gorgeous location.

  • Review 41 (2022-09-20 - Rating: 5)

Excellent cocktail experience. Went on a Sunday night around 830, and was able to get a solo spot. ~45min wait if you had 2 or more people. Bartenders were knowledgeable and made great recommendations. I love a Manhattan or Negroni, and they recommended the Space Sword, which was exactly what I wanted. Very attentive on water refills too. Definitely recommend asking for bartender recommendations since the second drink I got I picked on my own - and it was not my favorite (too much melon). The entrance is actually fairly obvious…there’s a dude out front with an iPad taking names for the waitlist.

  • Review 42 (2021-08-26 - Rating: 5)

Wow if you can get into this place, the cocktails holy cow.Cant go wrong with almost anything on the menu, and when my date asked the bartender to wing a light tequila drink on the fly, he did NOT disappoint!Around the corner from PDT, the drinks are on par but a little cheaper and the vibe just a bit better.Do it!

  • Review 43 (2019-08-06 - Rating: 5)

One of the best places to have a drink in New York. Awesome drinks and environment perfectly designed. Very discreet place. The drinks have very good execution and presentation. Also, one of the places that have good drinks with tequila and mezcal.

  • Review 44 (2019-02-20 - Rating: 4)

Good cocktails, friendly and knowledgeable staff, but a little on the pricier side. You can leave your name on a list at the door and grab drinks around the area while you wait for them to call you back. Cool vibe inside, dark and decently loud.

  • Review 45 (2018-06-25 - Rating: 5)

We were there on a Friday evening. Put in our names at 7-45 pm and got a table at 10 pm. Its a small place, so not many can fit in. Its easy to miss as its pretty silent for a bar outside. Theres usually a guy with an iPad standing outside the bar to take reservations. Coming to drinks, probably one of the best cocktail places in New York City. The wait was totally worth it. They also have bites which were tasty. Seating was comfortable. Perfect for a date night.

  • Review 46 (2024-07-16 - Rating: 5)

Not a quiet spot at all, but loud and lively! Make sure you’re ready to speak loudly with your friends. That being said the drinks were FANTASTIC and our server was phenomenal. From start to finish we were taken care of. It was a little hard to talk but it was very easy to drink. 🎉

  • Review 47 (2017-10-07 - Rating: 5)

Amazing cocktail bar with good vibes. Usually big queues but they can get your details and either call or WhatsApp you. Dark inside and spacious between seatings.

  • Review 48 (2021-12-18 - Rating: 5)

I have been a fan of Death & Co for years, and always enjoy visiting the NYC location. The cocktail program is phenomenal, and the service is top notch. Every detail has been carefully curated. If you don’t have any of the books - Id recommend picking them up.

  • Review 49 (2021-12-07 - Rating: 5)

Went on my own at 6:30 on a Monday night and got in without a reservation.Dude sits down next to me and gets a free shot from the bartender with his water so I was like this guys definitely a regular or something - turned out he was the manager and we ended up chatting about drinks and how the place has changed over the years. He recommended the String Theory - nice martini variation. Love the sidecar second dose that comes on ice.Great bar.

  • Review 50 (2019-02-05 - Rating: 4)

Came around 10:30pm on a Monday. Waited 10min to be seated. $17-$20 cocktails, they were good, but its a steep price point. Also got a soft pretzel that was good but way over priced. Ambiance is very nice though! Music is the right loudless so that you can still have a comfortable conversation with the person you came with, and the bartenders are super nice! Dark and candlit also.

  • Review 51 (2023-04-20 - Rating: 5)

Dare I say anything about Death and Co. Obviously, it is difficult to get in on weekends. But but but it is worth waiting in line for the drinks. My 2023 has been hunting down my top 3 cocktail bars and this one def made the list so far. Still looking for the next 2.

  • Review 52 (2019-03-01 - Rating: 5)

Really nice atmosphere. Its quite dark and candlelit. The tables are quite close to each other and its hard not to overhear your neighbors which turned out to be a nice thing for us and we had a great conversation with them. The drinks were world class and inventive. The wait was horrendous but its understandable once you see how small the bar is.

  • Review 53 (2024-10-31 - Rating: 4)

Terrific place to get great craft cocktails. Staff is very friendly and accommodating.

  • Review 54 (2023-08-30 - Rating: 5)

Its a cocktail Mecca. Im glad we managed to visit this place while in NYC. Lots of mezcal and tequila cocktails to choose from.

  • Review 55 (2023-08-21 - Rating: 5)

A must do in the city for any cocktail lover. It’s a very intimate space but worthwhile. Enjoyed sitting at the bar and watching them craft cocktails.

  • Review 56 (2020-02-13 - Rating: 5)

Thé cocktail menu is organized by types of drinks and it does not disappoint! I tried the Cave of Wonders and Aurora and loved both of them. The lighting is dim but it sets the perfect mood. Bartenders are fast and very good at their jobs. Definitely recommend for drinks with friends or on a date.

  • Review 57 (2024-09-12 - Rating: 5)

We were able to walk in on a Thursday evening. The place was dimly lit and a little loud, but not so much that we couldn’t keep up a conversation. The drinks were really good.

  • Review 58 (2024-07-02 - Rating: 5)

Very cool speakeasy atmosphere. Bartenders were extremely knowledgeable and were able to direct us towards outstanding cocktails based on our taste preferences.

  • Review 59 (2023-09-24 - Rating: 5)

Great vibes, great drinks! Service was good too 🤝Extensive and inventive cocktail menu 🍹

  • Review 60 (2018-12-28 - Rating: 4)

A great date spot and really nice speakeasy. Its really hard to find a spot, so make sure to make reservations. Additionally, if youre a huge party, make sure to break it up. I really enjoy their cocktails and the menu gives enough details as to what to expect.

  • Review 61 (2018-05-29 - Rating: 5)

This is quite the place. Dark but yet soothing & comfortable, Death & co has a major theme of elegance for some a place so simple, therefore this bar is a must see. The backbar looking looks to be a chemistry lab where the bartenders mix wild concoctions to your liking, and everyone seems happy and excited to be here and they should since waiting to get In and when you might get in is such a mystery. Will definitely return here as soon as possible for some more of the infamous Zombie Punch.

  • Review 62 (2022-06-03 - Rating: 5)

So many interesting and unique cocktails. The server knew the menu like the back of their hand. Waters rarely stayed empty. Ambience was chic. Could see this being a fantastic date spot

  • Review 63 (2023-05-10 - Rating: 5)

Only took a decade to finally make it here - kicking myself for not coming sooner! Drinks were masterfully made, and we were so torn on which to order from the very ample menu (obviously we had to have a second round).

  • Review 64 (2023-07-11 - Rating: 5)

Speakeasy with very interesting cocktails. Food options not great but the few drinks we tried were tasty. Bartender was very friendly and made great recommendations!

  • Review 65 (2018-06-13 - Rating: 5)

Went here for the first time last night with a friend and we enjoyed ourselves very much. The bartender was very attentive, drinks were phenomenal, and the Macaroons were delicious! Be ready to spend some cash because these arent your typical bar prices, but sometimes you should treat yourself to luxury drinks!

  • Review 66 (2023-07-10 - Rating: 4)

Highly encourage anyone to get there as soon as it opens; otherwise there is a wait until a seat opens.Drinks are a plethora to pick from, something for everyone- worth the experience. Cheers.

  • Review 67 (2024-03-13 - Rating: 5)

Its been on my bucket list to get here.Great speakeasy-like atmosphere, and the bartenders know their craft.Tucked away in the Lower East side, if you dont know the name, I recommend a quick online search. A great cocktail brand that lives up to the hype.Loved the small bites as well. Two cocktails was enough for me, but I could have gone all night. The menu was great.

  • Review 68 (2023-11-12 - Rating: 4)

The drinks aren’t bad but I’ve definitely had better. Very friendly staff and services though!

  • Review 69 (2024-06-22 - Rating: 5)

Finally a bar with amazing bartenders that consistently deliver well made drinks. The atmosphere is amazing, it isn’t too loud so you can have a conversation, and the staff are friendly and efficient. I’ve had so many good drinks here but personally love the planet caravan (it’s may not be on the menu but they still make it).

Weve explored Denver, Los Angeles, and now NYC, and Death & Co is an absolute must-visit. Alexander, our fantastic bartender, provided exceptional service as we enjoyed our time at the bar. Thank you for an unforgettable evening! Be sure to try the drunken cookies and popcorn—theyre delightful treats.

We were waiting over 2 hours to get there but it was worth it! I was best cocktails in my life. The Modern Lover was my boyfrinds favorite. My favorite was the Dark Horse.

Visiting this place has been a long-time goal of mine, and it certainly didn’t disappoint. The speakeasy-style ambiance is captivating, and the bartenders are true masters of their craft.Hidden in the Lower East Side, its a spot youll want to look up if youre not already familiar. This cocktail haven more than lives up to its reputation. The small bites were delightful, and while two cocktails were just right for me, the tempting menu could easily keep you sipping all night.

  • Review 73 (2025-01-02 - Rating: 5)

This renowned cocktail bar stands out as one of the citys most iconic spots. Since they don’t accept reservations, arriving early is advisable; otherwise, be prepared for a potentially long wait. Their cocktails are extraordinary, with many crafted recipes so notable they’ve become the standard in mixology. Make it a point to visit—its absolutely worth your time.

  • Review 74 (2021-12-01 - Rating: 4)

Get here very early if you want to get in. We waited 3 hours, at a local bar, to get inside. Was not as overly impressed as I thought I would be. Good drinks. Very crowded and I was not comfortable. Maybe, my next visit will be a better experience.

  • Review 75 (2018-02-01 - Rating: 5)

Super friendly staff. Craft cocktails that are on par with the expectations. Enjoy some small bites in the dark ambiance.

  • Review 76 (2017-04-04 - Rating: 5)

Went (twice in as many days) with an avid cocktail aficionado friend who was in town. Definitely recommend sitting at the bar to witness the drinks getting made firsthand and chatting up the bartenders. All in total we probably had about 14 drinks between the two of us over the two visits and all were winners.

  • Review 77 (2019-05-25 - Rating: 4)

Drinks were lovely and deftly done. Their menu is innovative and I really appreciated my cocktail, The Weaver. Atmosphere is a bit crowded and loud and the music selection isnt perfect, but overall, the drinks are worth making a stop.

  • Review 78 (2017-10-18 - Rating: 4)

Dark, mysterious, and secretive. This speakeasy is an herbalists new nightly haunt while in NYC. I sipped Between the lines, Daisy Bell (with rose water), and my personal favorite the Chrysanthemum. Delightfully delicious.

  • Review 79 (2025-01-04 - Rating: 4)

We arrived right as it opened at 6 and snagged two seats at the bar. Within 20 minutes, the place was packed. The bartenders were incredibly friendly, efficient, and attentive, serving up our cocktails in under five minutes. The drinks were great, and the atmosphere was lively and social. However, I’m not quite sure why this place has so much hype—it was cool, but nothing extraordinary.

  • Review 80 (2023-05-27 - Rating: 5)

Excellent Manhattan. If you dont know what you want, I highly suggest asking your server to surprise you - theyll ask you some basics about your preferences and then bring you an amazing drink!

  • Review 81 (2024-03-10 - Rating: 5)

After poring over their cocktail books, we were thoroughly looking forward to an in-person visit! Sitting at the bar is the move if you’re interested in the process and the ingredients. We really enjoyed speaking with the bartender, asking questions, and watching the drink preparation. When my husband asked for a rye recommendation for an old fashioned he talked us through options and poured the last of the bottle into a shot glass for us to try on its own, which was a special touch and made the evening that much more memorable! We had five drinks between the two of us, trying from all the different menu sections, and enjoyed all of them. If you think to, definitely look at menu ahead of time and have some options in mind. There are a great number of options with some truly interesting and unique ingredients to consider. We realized too late that they now do limited reservations ahead of time, so if you’re planning a visit check those out well in advance to avoid the stress of walk-ins/wait times. Luckily we showed up at opening time on a Friday night, joined a line of 20ish other hopefuls, and were able to snag the last seats at the bar without a wait.Thank you Death & Co!!!

  • Review 82 (2023-02-26 - Rating: 5)

We enjoyed the complex cocktails. The wait on the weekend is a few hours. We put on name on the list, then went to dinner and came back after.

This spot had been on my bucket list for a while, and it didn’t disappoint. Nestled in the Lower East Side, it’s the kind of place you might miss without a quick online search. The speakeasy-style ambiance was fantastic, and the bartenders were true masters of their craft. The cocktails more than lived up to their stellar reputation, perfectly complemented by the delicious small bites.Though I stopped at two drinks, the menu was so tempting I could have stayed sipping all night.

Ive been dreaming of coming here for 4 years and crazy family around Thanksgiving was the shove I needed to finally visit. Spent 2+ hours with friends indulging in snacks and sipping on some of the best cocktails Ive had in recent memory - the Almond Thief is a surefire crowd pleaser, packing enough sweetness to please non-whiskey drinkers and enough peat to intrigue even a stalwart scotch apologist. Ambiance is intimate and cozy, making conversation easy to get lost in. Stop reading and just go already, but expect to wait for an experience like this. Plenty of pourover bars near by - check out the bitters bar Amor y Amargo for some unique and powerful options!

  • Review 90 (2023-03-28 - Rating: 5)

Still the gold standard of cocktail bars everywhere. Insanely good drink programs with delicious innovation seeping from every riff and experiment. A beautiful, warm, cozy space welcomes you and there is just-right service from extremely skilled bartenders. This place is a national treasure and they are what other bars should compare themselves to. I loved my time here and my only regret is that I Im a lightweight and could only muse through two drinks during my time in NYC this weekend. I cannot wait to see what their other locations around the US are doing.

  • Review 91 (2021-08-31 - Rating: 5)

Speakeasy with an extensive cocktail menu featuring eau de vies, aged spirits, distilled spirits, etc. The menu is split into different sections so you can pick your poison; or go for a wine or beer if you arent feeling as adventurous.Put your name down first and if theres a wait, they will text you to come back.Cozy and intimate inside, great date spot.

We have been wanting to visit Death & Co for a while and this time we were finally able to make it happen. A group of us was in town for my birthday, and when my husband made the reservation, he mentioned the occasion. When we arrived at the bar, there was a handwritten note on the table wishing me a happy birthday. The five of us all ordered our first drink from the menu, and every single one of us loved them. I ordered the Rolling Blackout and fell in love at first sip. Our bartender, Justin, helped us all with a second round. This time most of us ordered a dealers choice and he hit it out of the park for each one.We found the seating arrangement to be a bit challenging for five people. The table was small, and one of us was in the corner with little wiggle room. Additionally, the bar was really busy and because we had to wait for our drinks to arrive, we were offered a complimentary bowl of popcorn (which was delicious). While we had noticed it was taking a long time to get our drinks, we didnt mentioned anything to the staff, so that was a nice surprise. Because of how busy it was, we couldnt order another drink. Im not sure if that was a staffing issue or just indicative of a busy weekend evening. We actually did order another round, but shortly after, Justin came back to let us know that there wasnt enough time left on our reservation for another drink. He was very apologetic and we all knew he wasnt at fault.Even with these minor issues, I still highly recommend Death & Co to any cocktail enthusiast out there. We will definitely be back next time were in town, and hopefully with better seating and a little more time.

  • Review 100 (2021-12-23 - Rating: 5)

Excellent, excellent cocktails selection. The bartender was an artist, even putting together a new cocktail based on our ask of a couple basic drinks ingredients. The food selection is a bit limited, however, all the food items were excellent in taste. The service is quick and super helpful and friendly. The place gets super busy so better to line up. One minor thing, if they can light the restrooms a bit better. Its super dark there, almost to the point that one might fumble.

  • Review 101 (2024-05-23 - Rating: 5)

Had a great time with my friends and also good drinks. Place was pretty busy which just added a cool vibes. Server is also attentive.

  • Review 102 (2023-02-16 - Rating: 5)

Incredible cocktail selection - very fine tuned and the ambiance is great (dark, sexy, but also warm). It’s not the easiest place to get sat - make sure you are polite and fit the “vibe”. Thoroughly enjoyed my evening here. Will be back again soon!

  • Review 103 (2023-08-30 - Rating: 4)

We didn’t make any reservation- just got a table by walking in. We had to wait for like 5-6 mins. It was a weekday. We tried a bunch of drinks- mostly whiskey based. It was strong but really flavourful. We did order popcorn with it but it was pretty cold. The service was good. The overall vibe is pretty good however it’s a little dark place. Good for date nights but might be slightly loud.

  • Review 104 (2019-12-28 - Rating: 5)

Very, very popular cocktail bar, so youre likely to wait for some time before getting in. The cocktails are vast and excellently crafted. Youre bound to find something you like.

  • Review 105 (2021-08-06 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 109 (2022-10-09 - Rating: 5)

What a fun experience. The cocktails here are so unique and our bartender Jamelle was awesome. Definitely worth the long wait time for cocktail enthusiasts, next time I would go put my name in, then go have dinner while waiting!

  • Review 111 (2024-08-26 - Rating: 5)

It is a speak easy. A haven for whiskey lovers. They have an amazing collection of whiskey and cocktails. Infact, I even asked the bartender to customize one to my liking, and he did. I loved their frequent flyer and adrenaline rush! The customized one was a scotch with absinthe and spice twist.Note: they do not have too many food options, you will find some appetizers though!

  • Review 112 (2018-05-17 - Rating: 5)

Great spot. We had to put a name and number down in order to get a spot at the bar, but they take reservations as well, we just didnt expect it to be that busy on a Wednesday night.Well worth the wait though. Its fun to sit and watch the bartenders expertly mix concoctions together from nondescript bottles that turn out to be an incredible cocktail at the end.The drinks will run you about $20-22 a piece by the end of it with tip, but theres a lot involved in the experience beyond just your drink. Fun time!

  • Review 113 (2019-03-05 - Rating: 5)

Their cocktails are so unique and delicious. The ambiance is dark and mysterious (even the washroom which I found difficult to see in lol). Our server was super informed about everything on the menu and had a great rapport with our entire table. Honestly such a fun experience.

  • Review 114 (2019-03-09 - Rating: 4)

It was a really small place with a few booths and some bar stool seating. The wait wasnt so bad since theres a couple small bars within walking distance you can grab a drink at. The cocktails were good, but very pricey. The Beignets was excellent and the dipping sauce was excellent. It was a cool little spot with a great atmosphere, I would definitely come back!

  • Review 115 (2018-05-31 - Rating: 5)

We came early, and we are glad we did. Definitely the most interesting ambiance in NYC, and the bartender staff is one of the most consistently excellent that I have ever encountered. They quickly and expertly mixed our cocktails off the unique menu, each with more than seven or so ingredients, and kept the service succinct and whip-sharp, letting the eclectic aura and atmosphere do most of the job charming us. We will definitely return, and we will come early next time, as well.

  • Review 116 (2022-10-06 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 117 (2018-01-13 - Rating: 5)

Amazing appetizers! We had the fried cauliflower and the blue cheese fries, which were super delicious! Cocktail recommendations were also great. They will take your name/number and text when they are ready for the party. For us it was a 45min wait to get in after arriving at 7pm on a Friday (we went around the corner for another drink while waiting). Overall a great spot for drinks and a bite to eat!!! Very pleasant staff!

  • Review 118 (2024-10-15 - Rating: 4)

Such a unique spot. The hostess was absolutely lovely. The drinks were great just so expensive. I’d go back if it wasn’t so costly

  • Review 119 (2019-07-16 - Rating: 5)

A little small, but the drinks are awesome. Theyve got lots of good signature cocktails, but you can get the standards if thats more your style. Staff are spectacular and knowledgeable. They limit groups to 8, so if youre a lot of people this might not be the spot for you, but for a few close friends looking for a night out, this is the spot.

  • Review 120 (2022-03-16 - Rating: 5)

A must try cocktail bar for any mixology appreciator. The bartenders and servers are extremely knowledgeable and great at helping you find something that will fit your palate. There can be a wait, but it is worth it. The cocktail books are also worth picking up. Great for a date.

  • Review 122 (2024-08-14 - Rating: 4)

We got there right when it opened at 6 and got 2 spots at the bar. The place was full about 20 minutes later (it was a rainy Thursday). The bartenders were super friendly, helpful and efficient, getting us our cocktails within 5 minutes. The drinks were really good and the vibe was social. I will say that Im not sure why theres so much hype around this place. It was cool but nothing special. I recommend it, but dont kill yourself to get there.

Its Death & Co, do I really have to say anything? Best cocktails you will ever have

  • Review 127 (2021-08-12 - Rating: 5)

We were heading to nearby PDT and I thought stopping by Death & Co would be the perfect way to pass the time. Honestly, I wished wed stayed here! While my usual play is to look for something new and interesting I havent tried, that applied to everything on the menu. While this is a plus I also see it as somewhat of a minus and would suggest to the specialists that they find a way to help people understand how a drink will taste. Its SUPER fun to have all these wild ingredients, but as somewhat of a foodie I was surprised to find that almost every drink had an ingredient Id either never heard of our didnt know how it would affect the flavor when combined in that way. This is fun for when youre on an adventure but in a bar where I wouldnt expect the bartenders to take the time to explain what each drink is like, there should be some way to help the customer out or have a few options that are a little closer to home. I wouldnt want to have people pulling out google every time they want a new beverage.

  • Review 128 (2023-12-17 - Rating: 5)

Fantastic craft cocktail bar. I love the dark intimate setting, but depending on the patrons, it can be loud. My favorite cocktail was ordering a vieux carré off menu, which was the best I ever had. We had a 15 minute wait to get in, faster than anticipated

  • Review 131 (2018-11-26 - Rating: 5)

We went for drinks after dinner. The door guy was super friendly and took our names to put us on the list, said they’d text us when a spot opened up. We got lucky and a spot unexpectedly opened up then so we got in right away. The space was cool, good atmosphere. Our server was really friendly which helped set a nice vibe. I got the iguanero which was really good.

Proceed at your own risk because once you head over to death and co, you will be back! I am not a huge cocktail drinker (read: my tastes are limited) but death really does a wonderful job of allowing you to step out of your comfort zone while still feeling safe. I’ve had some truly wonderful, unique cocktails the times I’ve visited. Truly worth the hype!

Every drink I had here, or sampled, from a regular drink, cocktail, or non alcoholic beverage, was either well balanced or well worth it.Color me impressed!! 😆 Shout out to T for having one of the most unique shakes Ive seen in q long time.

  • Review 134 (2021-09-19 - Rating: 5)

Excellent drinks, wonderful servers. Please note that while two food items on their menu are marked gluten free, both are fried in the same fryer as gluten items, so not safe for celiacs. But this place is primarily a cocktail place, so just eat before you go; there are plenty of gluten free place in the Tompkins Square area.

  • Review 137 (2019-06-07 - Rating: 5)

I had wanted to visit this bar for a couple years and happened to make a trip to New York and I can say wholeheartedly that it was worth the wait (both the wait for the time for a New York trip and the wait at the door once we were there). I loved everything about the place. The interior was dark and classy, the service was impeccable, and the drinks were perfectly crafted. Sit at the bar if you can just to watch them make the drinks. I found it quite entertaining.

  • Review 138 (2022-06-18 - Rating: 5)

The cocktails here are genuinely exceptional. The bartender was helpful and friendly, but also knew when to just leave us to it. After being unable to choose my 2nd cocktail the bartenders recommendation was excellent. The snacks are superb, although be aware they are very small. I will certainly recommend this place and return.

A good looking bar, low ceilings, a bit narrow, very cozy. If you sit at the bar you might get bumped as people try to navigate to the bathroom because there’s not too much space between tables and the bar seats.Bartender was not very friendly, but overall vibes were accepting and the people at the door were really cool and friendly.

Crafty cocktails in a dimly lit, cozy setting. You really can’t go wrong with any of their drinks! I’d recommend going early for 1-2 drinks before catching another dinner reservation in the area so that you are more likely to wait for a shorter amount of time to be seated, but of course it’s also perfect for after dinner cocktails as well.

Death & Co. is a cocktail experience. Their dedication to customer service and attention to detail shines through even ina neighborhood with a surplus of amazing cocktail bars. Ive been to Death & Co NYC twice (as well as their Denver and LA locations) and always walked away happy. I particularly like that their menu is arranged by a style of drink experience (strong and boozy, light and refreshing, etc.) rather than randomly assorted or split by spirit as some other bars do.

While it is a challenge to get into death and Co, it is definitely a unique and luxurious experience. It was an unforgettable experience. Service was wonderful and the cocktails were perfect. The atmosphere makes you feel like you are in a film. The AC was broken when I was there but that didnt stop the staff from making me a great drink which I will use for my own bar. 10/10 would recommend especially when their AC is fixed.

I got a kick out of going to such a famous bar. Very good cocktails at normal prices. Unpretentious atmosphere is a plus given its in NY. The interior didn’t strike me as all that special, but I suspect it’s because they were copied by tons of places since they opened, not because it isn’t good.Bartenders were not that friendly and made me feel a bit like I’m at a cafeteria.

Great atmosphere, drinks and food! My friends and I walked in right when they opened and sat at the bar to see the action. We are glad we showed up when we did because they quickly filled up with other patrons. We were served by Alex the bartender who made my friends and I’s experience even better. His recommendations were amazing, he was knowledgeable of the menu and my friends even let him choose their cocktails based off their preferences and he didn’t disappoint! The best cocktail of the night that my friends and I all agreed on was the Flea flicker. I would return just for that cocktail, plus their burrata with truffle honey!Highly recommend.

Weve done Death & Co the last few times weve been in the city, and its always worth the trip. Service is amazing, and the bartenders will guide you in the right direction if you dont see something on their expansive cocktail menu you want.

Best drinks I have ever had! Such a fun vibe. Very busy so go drop your name and get drinks elsewhere until your table is ready. I promise it’s worth the wait!

Adorable cocktail bar. Limited seating, and no standing, so expect to wait for a table. Nice people at the door to keep you entertained. Very unusual cocktails - these are strong, expensive drinks. They just released a cocktail cookbook - you are in expert hands here :)

Death & Company is an amazing cocktail bar. They are one of the places that really brought the cocktail bar back into fashion and it shows. We were lucky and got in right away, but often there is quite a wait. Their cocktails are on point, and you can tell their bar staff is very well trained. Their Manhattan is amazing, and comes with extra on the side of the glass served. If you find yourself in New York, you need to make your way to check this place out. You wont be disappointed.

    1. Dont trust their text notification system. Im waiting for two hours on Sunday night, I didnt get any text informing me that they have a seat available although the staff said so.2. The cocktail are probably good but probably not for me. Still, its worth trying. Hopefully their mixologist take their job seriously. My regular order is a gimlet but they didnt impress me. However its not really bad.

Judging from its unassuming entrance it would be easy to overlook this place if it werent for the line that punctually forms every night around 7. The drink menu is highly original and suits any palate. It is, however, a bit of a hit or miss situation, and if you get more than one drink youre unlikely to walk away without paying at least thirty dollars.

This is the place to go if you want an all out no holds barred classy evening with a date or small group of friends. The dark, dimly lit ambiance is played to perfection here from the inconspicuous entrance to their menus and staff. On that note, the cocktails are some of the most meticulously and expertly crafted in all of Manhattan.

Exceptional craft cocktails .... Its quite dark inside and kinda hard to read the menu, but the quality of the cocktails is above top shelf, its downright artisanal and that makes trying this place out at least once well worth it.Like I said, exceptional craft cocktails, simply delicious.

  • Review 169 (2022-12-30 - Rating: 4)

The vibe of the place is nice. Go there early when they open otherwise there will be a long wait time. They have a large range of cocktail selections and few finger food items to choose from.

I always wrote this place off as a tourist trap until I finally saw it for myself. The cocktails are incredibly good and strong enough to tranquilize a horse. The menu is extensive, so no matter what your liquor preference, youll likely find something to your liking. The service and atmosphere are also great for the price point (they dont rush you out the door), although its louder inside than Id anticipated.

Great cocktail bar with a wide variety of styles and spirits! The dark web is really special, the pandan flavor makes the drink really complicated in terms of flavors. You can taste all the spices coming out of you mouth with the pandan herbal/tea like flavor in the drink, with a smooth ending with mango brandy. The obsidian Sun has a strong sweet potato shochu (芋焼酎) fragrance and touching, while being creamy and smooth. The Adrenaline rush is an old-fashioned like drink recommended by the staff. It really has a strong bourbon fragrance with combination of rum. This makes the drink slightly smoother but keeps the original Bourbon flavor. The food here is also delicious, but a bit pricy given the price. The buttermilk chicken is well-fried and juicy with hot honey glazing. The chips and dip is also pretty crispy with sour cream, but a bit salty imo.Overall, this is definitely one of the best bars in NYC, arrive earlier and get in the line to give it a try!

The drinks here are amazing. A bit of a wait to get in but its definitely worth it.

Normally a reservation is required. We were lucky!!Theres no need to explain how good the drink is😉

  • Review 174 (2014-04-14 - Rating: 4)

Great - if you can get in. Death + Company walks the line between pretentious and quirky - think dark walls, candelabras and many, many hipsters. The cocktail menu is divided by primary spirit, and then by shaken vs stirred. It makes a large menu quite manageable. The cocktails are strong and interesting, and the space (like many speakeasies) is pleasant because everyone can sit and hear each other. But also, like many speakeasies (Im looking at you, Raines), the wait is unpredictable. Dont plan to go in right away - have a backup bar nearby while you wait to get in. It could be a reasonable 20 minutes, or a full 2 hours.

The Best mixtoligist bar to in my opinion in all of NY
