My new fav spot for inventive delicious cocktails !! This speakeasy vibe bar has been around for years and only till yesterday a co worker brought me here. Spacious and yet intimate, the lighting sets the moody on the english cottage like wallpaper. The playlist, not so much.We managed to just walk in on an early friday night. Love the concoctions but came across one that is very particular and we dont appreciates it as much and our server happily change to another drink and took it off the bill. Thank you guys ~ ~ !!Oh yes, last but not the least, you can have decent conversation. And no one is shouting at each other. Spot a lot of love birds in here.

  • Review 2 (2025-01-02 - Rating: 5)

The cocktails here are outstanding, crafted by exceptionally friendly and well-informed staff. While I typically reserve a spot when bringing friends, there have been a few times Ive managed to walk in right as they opened. Otherwise, expect a lengthy waitlist, especially during busy weekend evenings. The dim lighting creates an intimate speakeasy lounge atmosphere.

  • Review 3 (2024-07-27 - Rating: 5)

They serve the most amazing cocktails! We tried the Disco volante and the insanely good midori sour and they were just mind blowing! The most amazing staff who are happy to work with you to figure out the best order. Highly recommend!

  • Review 4 (2024-11-17 - Rating: 5)

I love the chill vibes, it’s not as noisy like a typical bar is, especially since underground places are my type of vibe. If there’s one drink you should have, it’s the cosmotropolis. It was a bit strong but i was totally okay with it. The notes of cranberry and lime made the cocktail so enjoyable to drink. We didn’t have reservations but got put on a waitlist and within about 20 mins, we got ourselves a table. I will definitely be coming back here again, perfect place for a date or hanging out with friends!

  • Review 5 (2024-12-10 - Rating: 5)

I had an amazing experience here! The drinks were outstanding, and the service was top-notch. It’s an ideal spot to impress others, offering an exclusive vibe, yet it’s surprisingly easy to secure a reservation. The only downside was that they asked us to leave after exactly two hours, which felt a bit sudden. However, I understand that they need to make room for other guests, especially given the venues size.

  • Review 6 (2024-11-18 - Rating: 5)

Its a cocktail bar. Not a pub. Dont expect some nachos or fries with your drink. It detracts nothing from the experience. You go in expecting custom cocktails that are made by the bar staff themselves.I didnt know what to order and their question wasnt basic. It was detailed! If there was a slightly brighter corner to read a book Id probably spend way too much time and money there. The drinks arent limited to the cocktails, but theyre just too attractive to pass up.

  • Review 7 (2022-05-01 - Rating: 5)

A great bar with super friendly staff and great vibe! There is a wide range of cocktails here with various spirits.I would recommend the hammer factor the most for old fashioned lovers. It is made out of rye instead of bourbon, but the rye fragrance is strong with the spices in the drink. The Disco Volante is also a good drink with clarifies milk, which makes the touching creamy. The drink is good overall, but the orange fragrance is slightly too much for me, but the drink is still pretty good and might be acceptable for others!A recommended bar here near Washington Square Park!

  • Review 8 (2021-10-20 - Rating: 5)

Tried to go here on a weekend without reservations but the wait was far too long so we returned on a Monday evening as walk ins and were able to get a table (only had to wait 10-15 minutes). The atmosphere and ambiance was super lovely - great for a date night or intimate gathering with close friends. The cocktails definitely met my expectations and the server made our decision making process really easy. Overall, we had an awesome experience and I would go back for sure! One thing to note, this isn’t really a “speakeasy” like people are mentioning. The sign is on the door outside and you just walk down a few steps to get in. Make a reservation in advance if you can!

  • Review 9 (2024-09-23 - Rating: 5)

I came back on Sat, Aug 21st during the evening and it’s still an amazing place to come if you want a real low key spot to relax and have great cocktail drinks. It’s a nice and sexy place to be whether you’re in a date or just trying out the amazing creative drinks. The bartender was awesome. I HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

  • Review 10 (2018-08-25 - Rating: 4)

At first I wanted to give The Up and Up 3 stars, but a lot of that was because they made me wait out in the snow for 20 minutes before I was allowed in (I was by myself, not meeting anyone). Then I wanted to give 5 stars from the hospitality and warm welcome once I was finally seated inside. Ill settle with 4 stars, since while the cocktails are good, I wasnt like blown away, and the Old Fashion served in a flask was too much of a gimmick for me to appreciate it.I had them put it in a glass, and it was excellent, and made sure to request that for subsequent drinks. Its worth visiting, its a speakeasy experience, but for the price and the exclusivity of entrance, I had high expectations that werent quite met.I did make some friends at the bar, and it seems like it would be a fun place to bring a group, granted you had reservations.

  • Review 11 (2024-08-23 - Rating: 5)

Down for some cocktails? This is the place to look up (and up)! With a team of expert mixologists creating the menu, this cocktail lounge with a hint of speakeasy serves up a fantastic experience. Rarely have I seen such creative cocktails, and the flavors were all phenomenal. The food selection is scarce, but let’s be serious, this is the place to go AFTER a nice dinner somewhere else. That being said, we enjoyed the snacks. All told, I would recommend this any day to anyone.

  • Review 12 (2023-06-04 - Rating: 5)

We finally got in after 3rd attempts! Reservation is a must. They had very unique drinks, and the place was really cute. 👌🏻 Had good time on Satruday night out.

  • Review 13 (2021-10-06 - Rating: 5)

Highly recommend this place if you enjoy nice mezcal cocktails! This speakeasy vibes in a dark bar is perfect for date night or small gathering. The ambience is nice and romantic. Noise level is 2/5. Service is excellent! Their bartenders make really high quality of cocktails. I’ll definitely revisit! We went there on a Monday night and it’s still pretty busy. Highly recommend to make reservations for weekends and holidays! My favorite cocktail for the night is Hold, Please! It’s refreshing, sweet and a has a little sour after taste perfectly mixed in with mezcal.Time to Buzz the Tower is pretty strong IMO.

  • Review 14 (2023-04-28 - Rating: 4)

Finally checked this place off of my list!the bar is dimly lit, intimate, and ornate, perfect for dates of small gatherings. we were promptly seated for a 5pm reservation on a saturday afternoon.the menu had a huge selection and we were kinda overwhelmed to be honest. our server was really helpful and knowledgeable. we got the following to try:-Barricaded Mountaintop: a Negroni-like drink with a bergamot twist. loved it!-Happy Trails: a Whiskey Sour-like drink with apricot, yuzu, pineapple, and fennel. it was delicious!-Stay Gold: with bourbon, ginger, lime. it gave me the impression of a Kentucky Mule, sans mint. it was very gingery, which i like, but my friend is not a huge fan of.-Screen Door Slam: an Old-Fashioned like drink, but with addition of Aperol and Absinthe.i think all the drinks were quite inventive and had a nice range. service was great too. i think my only grip is how pricey it is. drinks are $19 a pop. as someone who loves cocktails and making cocktails at home, im not too impressed by the liquors that they used. theyre not the most unique or interesting (Makers Mark Bourbon, Reyka Vodka, Suntory Toki [tho i do love Suntory Toki, etc.]). overall, still a good time and will return.

  • Review 15 (2023-01-31 - Rating: 5)

This was my first time dining at The Up and Up, and I really strongly recommend this place. I wasnt aware that you needed to RSVP, but the staff was nice and had some avalibilty, so they let us dine in for an hour! I got the Happy Trails drink which is, as described, a take on a pineapple daiquiri, and the green drink was called a midori smash. We also finished the night with screen door slam. Of the 3 the screen door was my favorite. The tender we had was very knowledgeable and gave good recommendations according to taste preferences. They also gifted us some shots on the house for a special occasion. Overall the drinks were at a fair price and tasted great. We left feeling warm and very happy. Lovely dark and chill atmosphere and Ill definitely be returning

  • Review 16 (2023-09-05 - Rating: 5)

The Up & Up always delivers a stellar cocktail experience. The menu is truly creative and the team is more than happy to make something off menu based on preferences. The atmosphere gives speakeasy vibes with the dark ambience and cozy booths. 10/10 recommend!

  • Review 17 (2024-06-28 - Rating: 5)

Chilled basement cocktail bar that also does some really nice beers. They have a great selection of drinks with a not too confusing menu, too. Their branded ice is a sweet touch.I loved this place.

  • Review 18 (2024-12-15 - Rating: 5)

Great staff & drinks. love to pop in here when im in the area or having a night out solo. highly recommend the Paisley Park!

  • Review 19 (2022-07-04 - Rating: 5)

Aside from the superior cocktail craftsmanship and genuine uniqueness of mixes, this is one of the few places in the area with enough privacy to talk.. yes to simply talk to your buddies, business partners, lovers.. Concentrate on the conversation and enjoy the drinks without overwhelming auditory and visual stimulation. Difficult to get in, reserve ahead.

  • Review 20 (2023-10-23 - Rating: 5)

This place has couple of the best cocktails I’ve evet had!! We got lucky to get in there without a reservation. They had incredible variety of unique cocktails. 10000% recommend but make a reservation.

  • Review 21 (2023-03-27 - Rating: 5)

Overall rating: 4.7Very very intimate bar in the heart of west village. I sat at the bar with a few other solo folks and got a very early reso like around 6 or so.I liked the vibe, but I’m not sure if I’d be back solo or even with a friend. It’s almost tooo dark. I’d definitely come back for a date if I’m trying to flex. Drinks felt a tad expensive but I understand.I bet it’s a different atmosphere at night. Recommend giving it a try.

  • Review 22 (2024-10-09 - Rating: 5)

A really great place for cocktails, cozy intimate on an unexpected street.

  • Review 23 (2024-09-21 - Rating: 5)

Fun speakeasy on Macdougle street. Cocktails were really well thought through and executed. Would definitely recommend this place as either a starter for the night or the night cap of the night.

  • Review 24 (2024-09-01 - Rating: 5)

Really great atmosphere and service. Cocktails were unbelievable

  • Review 25 (2019-06-09 - Rating: 5)

Amazing slam cocktail and quilt room cocktails made for us by Adrian our barrender. Lovely lady. I watched her make them cocktails and shake like she should and i was like. Yes i want that cocktai. It had danced and it perfectly ready for our tasting haha. And with a little tea cup of nuts accompanying it Buckingham was feeling jaleous of our royal treatment. It was delicious , light, tasty and large! I like the American way 😉. Thumbs up & another up. Two thumbs up! Up and up! Lol

  • Review 26 (2024-08-19 - Rating: 5)

Great underground and historic speakeasy vibes and the cocktails are phenomenal. Every recommendation was spot on!!

  • Review 27 (2018-05-08 - Rating: 5)

Insanely good cocktails and friendly service in a dark and atmospheric below street level den-like-room that is pleasant volume that allows normal voice dialog with your romantic date or friends. Cozy. Super low key, nothing pretentious including very reasonable prices for this caliber inventive and high quality mixology style cocktails.

  • Review 28 (2024-11-10 - Rating: 5)

    Delicious cocktails, amazing service!

  • Review 29 (2018-08-31 - Rating: 5)

$16 cocktails, but very worth it! Strong and very tasty! Great spot for a date - a little dark, but really cool vibe. Solid wallpaper and aesthetic. I’m glad that it’s close to school, so I’ll for sure be back!

  • Review 30 (2024-09-26 - Rating: 5)

Great cocktail bar. Wanted to go here since I found out it was the Gaslight Cafe in the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel tv show. Really interesting and well crafted cocktails. We also got the cheese and charcuterie plate (with manchego, jamon serrano, dried fruit and crackers). Everything was great.

  • Review 31 (2024-11-28 - Rating: 5)

Absolutely LOVED everything about this place: the atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and the excellent cocktails. Would definitely come back and recommend this place to anyone looking for an amazing experience in NYC.

  • Review 36 (2019-02-21 - Rating: 5)

This is a fun spot to go to on a Saturday. Great vibe, good place to talk with friends. The wait is long but not too bad. Long enough to get a bite to eat but not too long where you feel like you have too much time to kill. Drinks were on point and strong! 👌🏼

  • Review 37 (2023-08-06 - Rating: 5)

Probably the best cocktails weve had in a long time. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful with decision making. Atmosphere is just fantastic. Dimly lit, great music, and decor. Reservations recommended as it is quite small and there is no waiting area. Ring bell to get in. They do not serve meals, but have a snack menu with nuts, dried fruits, olives, charcuterie and various cheeses.

  • Review 38 (2024-02-19 - Rating: 5)

This place is amazing. The drinks are phenomenal (we did all the mezcal options) but the atmosphere and the service really made the difference. Kayla, our bartender, was the best part of the experience. A million stars.

  • Review 39 (2023-03-18 - Rating: 5)

Top notch. Intimate speakeasy. Recommend reservations but the host was able to accommodate a group of 6. The drinks were fantastic and we must’ve ordered half the menu over a few rounds. Our bartender/server was so attentive and our water glasses never empty. Highly recommend.

  • Review 40 (2021-06-01 - Rating: 5)

The cocktails, the ambiance and the staff are amazing. I was pleasantly surprised and will be back. A big thank you to Adrienne for her hospitality and service.

  • Review 41 (2024-12-16 - Rating: 5)

This is one of my favorite date spots in NYC. Great craft cocktails, good music and a trendy and alluring ambiance. Love the wallpaper, adds such a vibe to the place.I’ve sat at tables and at the bar and both were fantastic. At the bar, the bartenders are friendly and provide more info on the cocktails, highlighting their craft in mixology.

  • Review 42 (2024-06-10 - Rating: 5)

Had such a great time here! The drinks were phenomenal and the service was really excellent. It’s a great place to impress people since it feels very exclusive but it’s actually quite easy to make a reservation. The one downside was they kicked us out after exactly two hours which felt a bit abrupt but I get they need to accommodate everyone and it’s a small place.

  • Review 43 (2023-04-25 - Rating: 5)

Such a cool little bar. Great atmosphere, lovely staff and delicious drinks. Highly recommend. Also we mentioned we had a dinner reservation at 6:30 - aboit 20 minutes prior, our server remembered and popped our bill to us and let us know how long it would take to walk there. Such a sweet thing to do and we appreciated it. I will definitely recommend this bar to friends visiting New York. Thanks for having us!

Great cocktails and selections! Would definitely go back again!

  • Review 45 (2024-08-12 - Rating: 5)

Cocktails were tasty and a delight. Staff was friendly 10/10 would go again

  • Review 46 (2024-07-05 - Rating: 5)

Go to for cocktails in the Village. Servers are super knowledgeable, ambience is on point for a cocktail bar, and the drinks are tasty and complex.

  • Review 47 (2024-04-21 - Rating: 5)

Fantastic cocktails served by super friendly and knowledgeable staff. I’ve usually made reservations when I bring friends but on a few occasions was able to get in right when they opened - usually a long wait list though otherwise during peak weekend times. Darkly lit ambiance for a small speakeasy lounge vibe.

  • Review 48 (2017-06-29 - Rating: 5)

Very cool ambiance! Excellent and tasty cocktails. I really liked them and the service was very good.

  • Review 49 (2021-06-06 - Rating: 5)

Really yummy cocktails. Highly recommend the Parisian Affair and the one that have clarified milk in it.

  • Review 50 (2020-09-30 - Rating: 5)

One of my favorite cocktail spots in NYC. Cocktails are great, the service is one of the best, and the decor is adorable and never, ever crowded

  • Review 51 (2021-06-15 - Rating: 5)

The hostess was so pleasant and helpful! From start to finish our experience was wonderful. The hostess mentioned that we have the table for an hour as there was a reservation following and we never felt rushed. The staff asked us in a very friendly way if wed like to order a second round to have enough time before the next reservation. On top of all this wonderful service - I had a mocktail and it was the BEST Ive had. Would come back again. Ambiance is intimate and perfect for a date or catching up with a friend or 2 in your own booth.

  • Review 52 (2024-11-18 - Rating: 4)

He drinks with nice presentation food selection is nothing means. They have only four things such as popcorn and olives, and the nut mix. Also we have been waiting for over 20 minutes..

  • Review 53 (2024-03-14 - Rating: 4)

Stopped in late one night with a colleague. Service and drinks were great with a relaxed atmosphere. Has village vibes in the best way.

  • Review 54 (2023-05-31 - Rating: 5)

This is such a gem tucked away in a sea of dive bars. Its sophisticated but not pretentious if that makes sense. The staff is friendly and the drinks are good, will definitely go back the next time Im in the area

  • Review 55 (2024-04-29 - Rating: 5)

Kaila, our bartender, was incredible and really knew her stuff. It was such an incredible atmosphere and the drinks were SO GREAT! I will definitely be back!! The staff was so kind and you can tell a lot of hard work is put into this bar!

  • Review 56 (2023-06-06 - Rating: 5)

First I love that the basement speakeasy is called Up and Up. The drinks were very well made and presented. Even when we went off menu the bartenders nailed it. Cool and hip place in a unique neighborhood.

  • Review 57 (2023-10-02 - Rating: 5)

Wonderful speakeasy near Washington Square Park. Go down a flight of stairs and take a break from the noisy NYC streets. Lots of excellent cocktail choices for around $20 and they are very tasty. Perfect place to catch up with a friend or go on a date. A good change to your evening plans. Service is great (as speakeasy bars should be expected to have) and the atmosphere is just perfect. The engraved ice is very cool too.

  • Review 58 (2018-03-21 - Rating: 5)

Its difficult to definitely judge a cocktail bar with just one visit, and in my experience the first visit is often for some reason the best. That being said, our first visit to The Up & Up was really fantastic. I would rate it among one of my favorite experiences. The place is small, dark, and has a great ambiance. Even though the street is chaotic and crowded with college dives, walking down the stairs into this bar is like entering another world. It was calm, kind of quiet, but also very fun with a good energy. My wife and I sat at the bar. The drinks were very inventive and very well done. I was worried that this bar might be passed its prime, but we had several delicious, creative, and well balanced cocktails. We didnt order food, but they do have some very basic bar snacks (cheese, charcuterie, etc.) The bartender who helped us was amazing. He helped guide us toward drinks on the menu, and was more than happy to indulge our off menu requests. He was a really nice guy who was excellent at judging how much various patrons wanted to engage with him. He was really great!Although we are not in the West Village very often, we will definitely be back here. It is worth the trip.

  • Review 59 (2023-07-20 - Rating: 5)

Great cocktails !! Intimate and cozy vibe, attentive service.

  • Review 60 (2021-12-10 - Rating: 5)

Hidden down some steps on an otherwise very busy street, this speakeasy provides an intimate and refined refuge with expertly crafted drinks. The bartender was very knowledgeable and provided recommendations for me and my friend based on what we liked. This is a great spot for a date night or catching up with a close friend.

  • Review 61 (2022-09-03 - Rating: 5)

One of the better speakeasy till now in NY. The wait times can be extremely long as it took us 2 hours to get the table. The drinks were extremely good. The place has a vast menu with different base drinks of which you can choose. The collection of cocktails is extremely good. I ordered 2 mescal drinks , 1 scotch, 1 vodka and 1 gin drink. The mescal drinks were clearly way better than the others. Or maybe it is me, because I love mescal a lot 😅. The ice in the drinks has the up&up stamp embedded on it. A must visit in NY.

  • Review 62 (2021-08-30 - Rating: 5)

A nice dimly-lit cocktail place with inventive menu. Perfect for the first date. Reservations are required.

  • Review 63 (2022-08-15 - Rating: 5)

A wonderful bar, very cool speakeasy, great vibes, all the wait staff are also the bartenders, ill let them explain the details of that, but it works very well, very swift service. Drinks are wonderful every drink on the menu is hand crafted by one of the different bartenders and the drink the modern lover by Leah is absolutely amazing!

  • Review 64 (2023-06-13 - Rating: 5)

Lovely speakeasy with super flavorful cocktails! What a good vibe

  • Review 65 (2020-08-16 - Rating: 5)

Great bartenders, great drinks!Update: Im so. Glad theyre open for take out service! I love having my favorite cocktail at home. Whether its a screen door slam or the disco volante, I cant make the drinks the way they do, and its such a treat to have a really, really good cocktail.

  • Review 66 (2019-11-24 - Rating: 5)

Great place and atmosphere. Ordered a cocktail and sat at the bar. The Midori cocktail was particularly tasty. Easy to reserve a spot. Arrived early in the evening but wait on a Saturday night was less than 30 minutes. Will definitely go back.

  • Review 67 (2023-01-06 - Rating: 5)

You definitely won’t be disappointed with anything here! The drink menu is full of unique drinks, the ambiance is movie worthy, and the waitstaff is great. Highly recommend checking it out, but would definitely recommend making a reservation.

  • Review 68 (2023-06-19 - Rating: 5)

Celebrating a special night w a friend and wanted great craft cocktails. We were not disappointed. Great cocktails, atmosphere, and a friendly bartender.

  • Review 69 (2022-05-14 - Rating: 5)

Had a great experience here, enjoyed a couple of unique whiskey cocktails which is rare since most cocktail bars only have slight variations on old fashions and Manhattan’s. Knowledgeable, efficient service. Elegant decor, and a great atmosphere.Highly recommend making reservations, there was a 2.5 hour wait when I arrived, so I went to another cocktail bar and 1.5 hours later got the text that my seat was ready here. It made for a lovely evening!

  • Review 70 (2023-12-18 - Rating: 5)

This one is a hidden gem - cozy vibes, great cocktails and they do a great job is helping you pick a drink. Definitely recommend

  • Review 71 (2022-09-15 - Rating: 5)

Great cocktails and ambiance. Definitely on the pricier side and can sometimes be difficult to get a res so make sure to try to find one in advance (for the weekend). Cute for a date spot!

  • Review 72 (2023-06-30 - Rating: 5)

Kayla the mixologist is amazing. The cocktails were superb. The best I have ever had and Ive traveled extensively and explored all over NYC. Also, I finally had ice that had an emblem on it. The cocktail I had on the rocks is a Happy Trails with Jananese Whiskey , Yuzu, pineapple and fennel among other things. My friend got the Meres Of Twilight which has gin, peach, honey, mild jalapeño, cucumber and lemon juice. Delicious! We were treated like Queens. The 20$ price tag for the cocktails is well worth this one of a kind experience.

  • Review 73 (2018-11-10 - Rating: 5)

Ive been to The Up & Up three times over the past year or two. The drinks are always excellent and interesting. Service is consistently good and friendly. And I love the coziness of the bar. At busy times youll need to get on the list and wait for a table, but it prevents it from being too crowded or loud once you get a table.

  • Review 74 (2023-05-12 - Rating: 5)

Lots of craft cocktails to choose from, all designed by their own bartenders, and also in rotation every season. The Insanely Good Midori Sour is my favorite cocktail here for sure. All of their cocktails are $19 a piece, and you definitely need a reservation before coming here because its very busy, and their wait-list is very long.

  • Review 75 (2020-02-25 - Rating: 5)

One of the best bars in NYC! My absolutely favorite! Such cute decore and such friendly staff. The cocktails are amazing! Weekends are super busy but they’ll text you once a table opens up! And weekdays are slower so pro tip is to stop by on a weekday!

  • Review 76 (2021-02-22 - Rating: 5)

What a cute underground drinking spot. Felt like we had our own private area free from all other distractions and noise from other tables. Cute vibe and all drinks were soooo good! You have to check out this spot.Reservations are better right now since I don’t think they are at full capacity

  • Review 77 (2023-10-09 - Rating: 5)

Come have a great cocktail before hitting The Blue Note or other places for a night out or a night cap. Cocktails are A+ and the staff is incredible and great recommendations.

Ali and Isma are the best! Bring June Flowers forever 🌸

  • Review 79 (2018-12-06 - Rating: 5)

One of my favorite cocktail bars in all New York. Always excellent service, cozy, quiet environment in an otherwise noisy street. Great for an intimate date. My favorite cocktail is the Shaddock & Smoke, which you can still ask for even though it’s not on the menu anymore.

  • Review 80 (2023-05-05 - Rating: 5)

Difficult to get a table, usually 2 hours waiting. Drinks are amazing, servers are friendly. Interesting to know this used to be gaslight cafe (yes the one in mrs maisel)!!

  • Review 81 (2016-08-03 - Rating: 5)

This place is tucked away below a tattoo parlor and its easy to miss but it is oh so amazing! Although I didnt like my first drink (I think it was the Ladson Cobbler - too artificial tasting), I told a server about it and she said of course I shouldnt drink something I dont like and let me order something else to replace it! The drink I ordered (Gap Theory) was 100 times better and I am so glad the servers were so nice and accommodating. I had a great time with my friends and will definitely be back again.

The history here is what is so interesting to me!! “ Gaslight cafe”!!!

  • Review 83 (2024-03-21 - Rating: 4)

Expensive, creative coctails, ice mostly. Great atmosphere.

  • Review 84 (2020-11-27 - Rating: 4)

Cocktails burn a hole in your pocket for the amount, though it was very strong. A wonderful intimate ambience perfect for date night! (Reservations needed in advance, closes at 10pm now due to new govt restrictions.)

  • Review 85 (2017-07-31 - Rating: 5)

Nice little hideaway with fabulously balanced potions of lust and love for the hoards. Great for a date after dinner; aperitifs.

  • Review 86 (2016-03-04 - Rating: 5)

Delicious and innovative drinks. Fantastic service. Friendly staff made us feel very welcome. We had a cozy booth for 4 of us which was cozy and intimate. Mood lighting and music were perfect. Great for a date night or small group.

  • Review 87 (2020-08-31 - Rating: 5)

Cocktails are amazing. People are super nice. Even during covid, takeout cocktails are prepared perfectly, in a very well thought out container along with instructions on how to serve them at home.

  • Review 88 (2022-02-15 - Rating: 4)

Intimate and cozy bar with an extensive list of sinfully delicious cocktails. Eat before you get here because they only have snacks. Service was excellent. Cocktails are $18 each, which is good pricing for NYC.

  • Review 89 (2019-04-03 - Rating: 5)

Chill vibe, friendly staff. Its not cheap but you should expect to pay for quality. They also have a cool rule where they dont allow standing around near the bar. If there isnt room to seat you, they have a waiting list. Pretty classy in my opinion. They also have a max party size of 6, just to warn you.

  • Review 90 (2018-08-27 - Rating: 4)

Great underground cocktail bar. Drinks are top notch but the wait is miserable.Leaving your number with the bouncer does nothing. They will not call you back. We have always left our number and never received a call back. Either that or Im guessing the wait runs until closing time.

  • Review 91 (2021-08-30 - Rating: 5)

The drinks are on point with great service. We also tried that cheese puffs which served as great side snack.Love the speakeasy vibe and dim lights. Ideal for date night.

  • Review 92 (2022-08-05 - Rating: 4)

Drinks were good even though the menu was a bit overwhelming. Overall, cool speakeasy vibe, but be prepared to pay for the experience more so than the quality of the drinks.

  • Review 93 (2022-04-03 - Rating: 5)

Fun indulgent and cosy. great drinks. I could’ve stayed all night.

  • Review 94 (2018-09-19 - Rating: 5)

Up and up is such a kickass, classy and chill bar. It may not be very visible from the street, but they have a cool understated vibe, fantastic drinks, tasteful decor and very friendly staff. They play great music at a perfectly conversational level, and the prices are just right, especially for the quality.Perfect for first or 15th dates.Usb charging ports discreetly under the bar counter, and a gentle reminder to patrons to not pull out any bright screens speaks to its attention to detail and to the bar experience.Ask Adrienne for an off the menu cinnamon drink she makes. Or really order anything, cant go wrong here.

  • Review 95 (2021-05-07 - Rating: 5)

I wish I knew about this place when we moved to NYC. The Up & Up is a hidden gem on a busy MacDougal Street, once you enter this place it feels like you have been tranformed to a different world. They really take their work seriously and know what they are doing. The cocktails were off the charts, we tried three of them and each drink was incredible. My favorite was the Parisian Affair - Suntory Roku Gin, White Peppercorn, Dimmi, Pear William, Orange Bitters, and Lavender. The server did warn me about how strong it will be and asked me to sip it slowly, haha. Mohit enjoyed the Screen Door Slam - Maker’s Mark Bourbon, Aperol, Honey, Vanilla Bean, and Absinthe. We would love to go back again and try other cocktails on their menu!

  • Review 96 (2023-07-08 - Rating: 5)

Some of the best cocktails in NYC. This place is perfect for a date, not sure if I would go with friends!Need to book before to go!

  • Review 97 (2019-01-17 - Rating: 5)

Great selection of diverse cocktails in a dark but warm and intimate space. The menu can be hard to navigate or even intimidating with all the great options, but the staff is super helpful and can help suggest drinks based on flavors you typically like.

  • Review 98 (2021-09-22 - Rating: 5)

Great place for cocktails and small bites, completely different vibe (speakeasy-ish) than the street above. We had a reservation and at the door they checked our ID and vaccine proof. My fave cocktail was stay gold. If youre in the area, its worth a visit, but at $18 a drink, you can find plenty similar cocktail places in NYC.

  • Review 99 (2023-10-24 - Rating: 5)

After two drinks each at the bar, with the absolutely amazing Ismael mixing magical concoctions, me and my friend agreed: this is the BEST bar in town- must be why the term “bar none” exists. Do get the “Hold, Please”: Banhez Mezcal, Crème de Cassis, Watermelon Shrub, Lemon, Juice, and Grapefruit Juice AND the “As Much as a Duck”: Banhez Mezcal, Famous Grouse Smoky Black Scotch. Stresa, Amaro Stumato, Lemon & Lime Juice, Cayenne and Egg White. The complexity of flavors in each drink is worth the price of admission: one is tangy, smoky and sweet, in that order; the other is creamy, sumptuous and a touch spicy. This is an experience worth paying for- wish this was closer to my home, but I would be there once a week at least. Insanely delicious.

  • Review 100 (2023-05-09 - Rating: 5)

Incredible unique cocktails, I can’t believe I hadn’t been here until recently. I can’t wait to come back again soon!

  • Review 101 (2016-02-01 - Rating: 5)

How this place ended up on a corridor filled with a college kids modern day Murderers Row of cheap booze is something I have to ask the next time I visit. Its the complete opposite of Off The Wagon, 3 Sheets, etc. Population inside is controlled by the door person so expect a nice, chill atmosphere when you get in. Had some nice 80s tunes going the night I got twisted. Request to sit at the bar so you can chat up the bartenders and watch them work magic. The cocktails are some of the best in Greenwich and the W Village. Valerie, Chaim, and Jacob are all cool people. Get here.

  • Review 102 (2019-08-31 - Rating: 4)

Great place, great vibe, music is not loud so people can actually have decent conversation. Is pretty spatial compare to other places, which help a lot in terms of privacy. Host at the door is nice and welcoming. Drink is okay, not disappointing but also does not amazed us.

  • Review 103 (2023-09-05 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 104 (2019-07-10 - Rating: 5)

  • Review 106 (2017-09-12 - Rating: 5)

Great small cocktail bar where theyre knowledgeable about their drinks. Ive never had to wait too long to get a table. Being directly across the street from artichoke pizza is a definite plus

  • Review 107 (2021-07-04 - Rating: 5)

What a special spot for a cocktail night. One of the best speakeasies in nyc!The spot was hidden underground but you can find the entry sign easily on the street. We tried three of them and each one was incredible! Definitely would like to go back again and try other drinks on the menu.🍹Bring June Flowers, light Vodka mixes with Jasmine tea, alongs with cucumber slices on the bottom. Felt like the summer is coming, pretty much the same vibe as mojito! It was my favorite among those.🥃Happy trails, Japanese whiskey with rum, adds with Yuzu and pinapple flavors. Great choice if you would like something bitter.🍸Six seeds, gin-based but hardly felt the alcohol, tasted more like a grapefruit smoothie. Recommend for light drinkers or someone looking for fruity drinks.

  • Review 111 (2017-12-28 - Rating: 5)

This is a good place to get away from the craziness of other bars in the village. Normally, its quiet and you can talk. It has a very speak-easy kind of feel. Its kind of snootty, but if you can get over that part, its fun.

  • Review 116 (2022-07-20 - Rating: 4)

The Up & Up is kind of like a speakeasy. You have to go down the stairs and ring the bell and they let you know if they have room to seat you. Three friends and I came by on the Friday before July 4th weekend at around 7:30, without a reservation. We rang the bell and the guy went to check for availability and shortly came back to let us in. I thought the place would be packed but it was half empty so not sure why he needed to check. Maybe to make it seem more exclusive? The inside is dark but not too dark. It would be a nice spot for a date. Cocktails are expertly made but pricey. They are $19 a pop. My friend ordered a mocktail and was also charged $19! I had the One-Star Yelp Review (as a Yelper should lol), which is Reyka Vodka, Amaro Montenegro, Cachaça, Grapefruit Juice, Lemon Juice, and Demerara. It was very refreshing for such a hot day.The Up & Up is a nice place if you want to stop by for a quick drink but definitely not where you want to spend the entire night or else youll likely run up quite a tab. But overall, pretty cool experience.

  • Review 123 (2021-08-23 - Rating: 4)

Their Midori sour is everything! The best in the city in my opinion.

  • Review 124 (2018-04-24 - Rating: 4)

Speakeasy-style cocktail bar with knowledgeable mixologists and good small plates. Watch out when you sit down, though! Everyone smacked their head on the low-hanging light fixtures.

  • Review 127 (2019-03-04 - Rating: 4)

Solid and slightly hidden spot to grab a quality cocktail. They will greet you at the bottom of the steps as there is often a wait to get in to the bar but this is great to keep it from getting too crowded inside.

  • Review 128 (2021-01-08 - Rating: 4)

Great drinks, I always get the bartenders choice so I was a little annoyed when they asked if I saw the drink they had on the menu.... Second drink was good and taken from something else so that was appreciated.

  • Review 129 (2017-11-10 - Rating: 5)

Upscale (but more casual than Raines Law room) speakeasy. Etiquette is written on the menu. Bartenders initials identify every cocktail. Lets keep this place classy New York.

Tucked away gem amongst a bustling district. Fantastic, creative, and refreshing cocktails served by attentive bartenders in a low key atmosphere.

  • Review 152 (2020-01-18 - Rating: 5)

Dark and well-lit at the same time. Its intimate, but you can still take a decent selfie with your cocktail in the light over your table. (And you will probably want to, considering the cocktails are pretty as they are delicious.)Cocktails are all $17, but theyre all an excellent size, and very delicious. We tried the Swords & Monkeys, As Much As A Duck, and Zuzus Petals, plus the best Midori Sour Ive ever had.

  • Review 153 (2024-04-17 - Rating: 4)

NYU/College atmosphere with high quality cocktails. Door man is polite and keeps honest on when your table will be ready. Their bottled drinks are strong, un presidente was ok but their high ball drinks were better. Not much to eat but a good night cap.
