    Found this little hidden gem on one of my NYC trips. Met Mary the owner and chatted with some of her regular guests. Had a wonderful experience and each time I go to NYC I make a trip to Mary’os for a drink or two. Shepherds Pie is amazing! Always welcomed and treated well!     Do yourself a favor and get a scone. I dream about those scones regularly. The first time we came in was on a whim to grab a quick bite. The menu is small, so you know they perfect each dish. The curry was phenomenal. Spiked cider is on the menu in the winter, which pairs perfectly with a warm scone.

    Just received my scones today. Not sure why it took a long time for me to get them but the wait was totally worth it. I toasted the scones and used the butter and jam that was sent with them. It was the most delicious thing I’ve ever had in my life. So warm and comforting. It was such a treat.

    Everything was perfect from the beginning to the end. Mary is a so nice person. We call at 9.15pm to know if it was possible to come. She said that normally the kitchen close between 9.15/45 but if we could be their in the 30mn she will wait. And she did. We had a lovely dinner, food was excellent, fresh and homemade. They were also a group of Irish musician playing violin live, the ambiance was so pleasant like at home. And without asking for it, Mary offered us her amazing warm scones. Thanks for everything. We definitively come back to visit you during our next trip in NY !

    We were welcomed in and made to feel at home with warm, Irish hospitality. We couldn’t eat just one scone, so we each had two! Shepard’s pie was delicious! Prices are reasonable!! Don’t forget to get a pack of scones to go!!We will be back on our next visit to NY!

    Kicking off the long weekend just right with Mary Ohalloran at Mary Os! Thanks to NY1’s Roger Clark for alerting us to her scones! 😋❤️ We had an amazing traditional Irish breakfast, complete with tea and then a Guinness (or two), and then took home trays of shepherds pie and chicken pot pie to have for dinner. And more scones, of course! If you are looking for the best homemade Irish fare, look no further. Call Mary and she’ll make sure to take care of you, with personal and charming service. You will not be disappointed! I promise! 😋😋❤️❤️🍺

    My wife and I were touched by Mary Os story on CBS news and had to add the bar to our NYC visit on our 25th wedding anniversary trip from NorCal. It was Sunday, there was a closed/private party sign, but it appeared it was ending. We entered anyway, and while the bar was serving, we were disappointed that the kitchen was closed, which also meant we couldnt get the Irish dinners we were hungry for, nor get one of her famous scones. We ordered drinks and told our story to the bartender. We moved to a high top looking at Avenue A and took in the sights both outside and in. 5# bags of flour were stacked floor to ceiling on nearly every wall both in the bar area and further back in the dining area. A few moments later while we were talking about the pedestrian traffic, a dish with a raspberry jam topping a steaming buttered scone slid in front of us delivered by Mary herself! We were momentarily speechless, and couldnt begin to describe what that meant to us. That and the ensuing, easy conversation with Mary was the 2nd emotional highlight of the trip. Well be back for those dinners and a lot more of the best scones weve ever had.

    I had my 60th birthday party at Mary Os. Mary was so accommodating to me and my guests! The food was simply scrumptious! The Shepards Pie and Chicken Curry were world class! The ceasar salad was sooo good! Mary provided her famous Scones and my guests could not say enough about how delicious they were. Definitely a must try!!!

    My friends and I kicked off our bar crawl with scones from Mary Os - literally could not recommend enough. We all left saying we couldnt wait to come back next time for more scones!We were all expecting them to be good but after having them, no words could do them justice. They were fresh out of the oven and topped with some delicious butter and jam.Mary was super nice and welcoming towards our group. I cant wait to go back. Ill also definitely be ordering scones online because Im sure theyll make a great gift for anyone who doesnt live in New York!

    I visited on a Saturday night. Although they didnt have live music, they played live performances over the speakers. Their selection of beer was alright. The crowd was fun, singing along to Irish folk tunes and having a good time. Their Irish coffee is phenomenal and I appreciate that they put a fresh pot on just for me. Definitely a worthwhile place for a chill evening.

    We were warmly welcomed into Mary ‘O’s like we were family. Chatting at the bar over a Guinness, sampling delicious scones with butter (we’ve ordered some to be delivered to our home) and flavorful corned beef and cabbage made our visit a wonderful, enjoyable experience that we will definitely repeat on our next trip to NYC. Only made better by Mary’s generous hospitality. Not to be missed!

    Mary O is a great place for parties of any kind. The staff is friendly and their Shepards Pie is so Delicious😋👍🏿🙌🏿! I am 63 years old. The last time I ate Shepards Pie that delicious was when I was 17 years old. Mary is a Wonderful Owner and Host. I Highly Recommend Mary Os for Office, School,Birthday and Celebration. The D.J. is fantastic! He joins in on the dancing and makes the party more festive🙌🏿👍🏿🎶.

    I stopped in and got a soda bread scone and sometea. The scone was as good as i have ever had. it had a nutty ce crunch on the outside and a soft slightly crumbly interior. Perfect in my opinion. It was served with outstanding jam and butter. It was so delicious!!

    I waited a year to receive the most incredible scones and jam as part of HONY’s efforts to help the unstoppable Mary O keep her pub. Before they arrived I had occasion to be in NY and popped in for a pint and a scone. The most memorable pastry I have ever had and Mary is a lovely person who charms all she meets.     AMAZING.Scones are the best Ive had in my life (fluffy, perfect blend of sweet and savory, absolutely decadent with the butter and homemade jam they send in the package).I feel like when I order scones (non Mary Os) they can be dry or tasteless or doughy. Not these. They are game changing. But they will make it so you cant order scones anywhere else for the rest of your life because they wont be as delicious as the ones from Mary Os, but thats a small price to pay to taste these pieces of heaven.Bonus: the blessing that Humans of New York (HONY) promised would come with the scones? IT WORKED. We have had the absolute BEST LUCK since we first ordered these in 2021.Extra bonus: they are the kindest people. We ordered scones again recently (2023) when we saw the portal was open for new orders. And they wrote a message on our box sending lots more luck your way with lots of hearts. SO KIND!!!Extra extra bonus: we also sent a friend these scones in 2021 (after we had amazing luck), and hes also had an incredible string of good luck. We just ordered him another box, and Im sure well be ordering boxes for years to come. Highly recommend.Thank you Mary Os and the HONY blessing!!

    Mary was so kind to make a last minute order of scones for Mother’s Day and ensure I got it before leaving town. Not to mention she makes the freshest fish & chips I’ve had this side of the Atlantic! I can’t recommend this neighborhood staple enough.Pro tip: there is great live Irish music on Thursday nights

    What a lovely little spot!!! i went on the first sunday of the month for sunday supper with live music by Murphy’s Lawyer and we had such a good time! the food was buffet style, delicious and totally worth the $26 price. the music was great and the general vibe was so warm and welcoming. Mary is a gem! We will definitely be coming back to try the regular menu another time. Highly recommend!

    If I could give six stars I would.Scones are AMAZING!!! Texture and taste by itself was perfect... adding on the butter and jam made it heavenly.Only thing more heavenly than the scones was Mary herself - absolute angel of a human being - the nicest, sweetest, kindest person!Found out about Mary (as I think many others did as well) through Humans of New York. Bought the scones for the good luck, wouldve been okay if I never received them, but received such a delicious magical product well only be purchasing more (and definitely visiting to try her other food items when were in NYC!)Highly recommend!

    Scone was warm, jam was homemade. Excellent texture. But look, they cut their scones vertically and buttered and jammed them that way, any good god fearing Irishman would cut it horizontally so that was confusing - Hannah Lynch

    Received my scones down here in Florida from the HONY fundraiser and I cannot wait to order more in the future, or maybe just fly up to NY for an in person visit. 😉 They were packaged perfectly, were quite possibly the most delicious thing I’ve ever eaten, and the drawing melted my heart like the pad of butter on one of the warm scones.     Mary was struggling to stay open after Covid and Humans of New York ran a story on her on Facebook. They asked for people to show her some love! And boy did they! I ordered scones and so did a couple million other people. Even though there was a little wait for the delivery, it was worth every second! They were delicious and perfect! Way to go Mary!

    I was walking by my house and stumbled upon this cute restaurant/bar. They decoration caught my attention and then I saw the menu and the prices are great. I got the roasted blueberries basil margarita( I know it sounds weird but trust me its good) and the mango one. I only had a buffalo chicken appetizer which was good. The service was great too.

    I just received the scones I ordered after I read the HONY post. The story was so compelling but I ordered because I’m Irish and my mother’s name is Mary. lol.     Ordered HONY scones months ago. Found out that it was shipped to us when we were in NY! Neighbors stored it for us until we got home. And the wait was worth it. Havent had scones like this in a long time (years.) Came with butter and jam. Loved the handmade drawing. Will certainly drop by when we return to NY. However, hoping to order more scones for delivery before going back to NYC.

    Just received the day before Thanksgiving our awaitted box of Irish scones. We loved the segment on ABC news about the struggles during the pandemic and how the business model changed. Even.more uplifting was the mention of the individuallly handrawned Thank You card ! Pure genius!. (We Love it!!!) All arrived well packaged and we are ready to enjoy our Irish Thanksgiving breakfast with the warmed up scones, Irish Butter and homemade jam while watching Macys Thanksgiving parade.     There is NO better Irish pub in NYC! I have lived in NYC my whole life. I have been to pretty much every bar and lounge NY has to offer. If you want amazing drinks, great freindly atmosphere and the sweetest barkeep and owner in NYC stop by and ask for Mary. Tell her Big Ray sent ya.     Marys place is a neighborhood Irish bar. You can expect a good sheppards pie, very friendly staff, and of course the four horsemen of Irish whiskey: Powers, Bushmills, Jameson, and Tillamore Dew. And she carries Magners (bottle), Guinness (draught), and a few crowd-pleasing taps.This is where you go when you want to get away from the East village snobbery that plagues the cocktail bars.     Mary O’s will surprise you. At first glance it may appear to be somewhat generic but have a seat and a meal and you will realize this is a hidden gem in plain sight. Thursdays there is a trad Irish music session that is a lot of fun. Mary, the owner, is almost always present and has created something very special.

    I came here as a fundraiser event for a community school, and it was soooooo much fun. I had some good laughs. They served us food, and it was quite delicious (Sheppard pie, BBQ bones wings if Im not mistaken, Cesar salad, and sautéed mushrooms). Again, based on the fact it was a fundraiser.......it was very good. All I had to physically spend money on was for drinks.

    Anybody who has yet to visit Mary Os is missing out on one of the best establishments out there. Food is top notch, the staff is super attentive, cant say enough good things about this place. Just go and see for yourself.

    If youre going to New York and are anywhere near the East Village or Lower East Side, you have to go to Mary Os!I was visiting with my mother and sister and we stumbled upon Marys late on a Sunday night when the village was super quiet. A classic serendipitous New York moment. No google or maps, just saw the green neon sign beckoning us over! We needed a beverage before we turned in for the night, and got one of the best local experiences weve ever had in the city.We ended up staying for a few rounds, chatting and hanging out with Mary and her staff. It was wonderful! Marys story is incredible (check her out on Humans of NY), and her tales of resilience and rallying the community during the pandemic was inspiring (around her homemade scones, no less!).Supporting local businesses, especially these days, is a no-brainer. So head over to Mary Os for great ambiance, drinks, bites and excellent conversation. We couldnt have had a better time! It was a highlight of the trip and I cant wait to go back next year.

    I dont believe there is a more welcoming host than Mary. Her establishment was closed, she was preparing for a private event, and had a staff of people working hard to get out orders of scones yet when I introduced my wife and myself and that we were visiting from Kansas she welcomed us in. Mary offered us a drink and a warm scone and then went about her way. As we left, she took time to come and thank us for coming by. She welcomed us back on our next trip and encouraged us to bring our daughter who is the one who found out about Mary in a television show. What a delightful experience.

    Like a lot of others, we ordered after seeing the segment via HONY. I forgot Id ordered them to be honest but every once in a while, Id be pleasantly surprised by an update on my order, letting me know they were baking away, catching up. I received the scones today and am so damn impressed. Not only did they complete the order as promised, but they were packaged perfectly and taste INCREDIBLE. Im always happy to help out a small business but this is one those things that started out as charity and ended up turning me on to my new fave place to order scones from. I couldnt be happier.

    Like most people sending reviews from out-of-state, I placed an order for six soda bread scones after hearing about Mary Os thru Humans of New York in August of 21. I didnt expect to hear back about the scones for quite some time (especially after hearing about the MASSIVE number of orders theyd received), but to my pleasant surprise, I received regular updates on my order and the extra efforts Mary and the staff were putting in to fulfill orders in a timely manner.Fast-forward to early this month, when I receive notice that my order is on its way. I pick it up at my apartments post locker, still chilled from shipping with two small cups of butter and jam. My wife and I warmed up half of the scones in the oven per the packaged directions and dug in.We ordered six, thinking theyd last a week. We shouldve ordered two dozen.20/10, would gladly wait eight months for these scones again.

    I received my HONY scones the day before Christmas and they are absolutely the best scones I have ever eaten! They may just become a Christmas morning tradition. I also loved the Irish Blessing that was drawn by Marys daughter. AND, the best part is that while I was waiting, I moved to a new house. I responded to one of the emails saying they would be coming and gave them the new address. In the midst of all of the hard work Mary and her friends are doing to get the HONY scones out the door, someone read my email and they arrived at the new house!     Went here after seeing Mary on ABC news. The pub is a lively place, the food was excellent, and Mary herself was so gracious she made and brought the famous scones to our table as a token of appteciation. Shes a lovely person and I would recommend a visit anytime in NYC.

    I would describe this place as a slightly upscale Irish pub. Casual atmosphere like any other Irish pub but a bit nicer. The bartender was great and poured my Guinness perfectly. He made some suggestions for a bit once we asked for a menu. There is also some tables in the back. I had the Shepard pie which was pretty darn good!I will return

    Wow this place is amazing. We stopped in after walking down East Village on a Thursday and they had live music playing. We had to go back again before we left for the weekend.     Scones were delicious! Mine were shipped all the way to the west coast and tasted great! For the people complaining about how long they took or are taking to ship - an email went out saying if you did not want to wait that they would gladly refund you.     The vibe in the place is out on its own, the best I have experienced in New York. The staff are very helpful, friendly and attentive, but not in an over the top way. The female owner of the business Mary O is the head Chef and her food is in a class of its own. You will never have Sheperds pie like it anywhere in the world. My wife had the Chicken Teriyaki and rarely eats all her food but she just had to clear the lot as it was so tasty. Homemade puddings hit the mark also. I would recommend this place to anyone who is after a unique atmosphere, fine wholesome food with a twist, Great service and the Guinness and drinks selection are top notch also.
